It's too late!" I cried
"I thought that once, too. But it's never too late. You taught me that. Love can make us eternal." Phoenix's eyes closed, haunted to the end. "I'm sorry," were his last words.
"I forgive you," I sobbed, gripping onto him desperately. "I forgive you."
It was too late.
All. Too. Late. ~ Jessica Shirvington
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Jessica Shirvington
Dad, youre so far off the mark I can't even ... Lincoln hasn't pressured me at all!" I grabbed my bag and heaved it onto my back. "WE'RE JUST FRIENDS! He's not even interested in me like that - and thanks to you," I shook my head at him in utter disbelief, "he never will now. ~ Jessica Shirvington
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Jessica Shirvington
If I didn't have Lincoln's butt to stare at the whole time, motivation would be a lot harder to come by. ~ Jessica Shirvington
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Jessica Shirvington
It's going to be like an ... aura, I guess."
He looked down at me and raised an eyebrow. "Explain?"
"Like even though there are outside forces pushing through the walls, in here it's like a bubble of goodness. Like coming home."
I could feel him smiling and it encouraged me to elaborate. "When I think of how others would see it, I imagine them seeing a force of goodness overshadowing a force of evil, protecting it. ~ Jessica Shirvington
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Jessica Shirvington
Griffin stared at me, his expression grave. "There are only three things both light and dark exiles have in common. They despise each other, they hate grigori, and they place no value on the casualties of their brutal wars."
Excellent news. Not only was I apparently some weird angel-human combo, but I already had myself a badass immortal enemy. ~ Jessica Shirvington
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Jessica Shirvington
I hoisted myself onto my elbows. "Yeah, well, if I ever come back as a Grigori, then I'll kick your ass."
"You'll come back, and you'll be a Grigori." He spoke with such certainty it made me smile. "I doubt very greatly, however, that you'll kick my ass. But me and my ass will enjoy your efforts. ~ Jessica Shirvington
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Jessica Shirvington
I'm tipsy." I corrected, "and it's my birthday and I want to dance. Come one, Linc, it won't kill you. ~ Jessica Shirvington
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Jessica Shirvington
When I turned back, he was already walking away. It was a brilliantly clear day, not a cloud in sight, and yet the sun didn't seem to reach his body. He was shadowed and I couldn't help it: I felt sad for him. ~ Jessica Shirvington
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Jessica Shirvington
I pushed passed him. He grabbed my hand and swung me back towards him. Then he pushed me against the wall and ... he kissed me.
He ran his thumb along my jawline and down my throat, hips pinning me to the wall. He kissed me slowly and with intensity, and once I got over the mind-numbing shock and comprehended what was actually happening, it was incredible. I had never been kissed like that before. We melted together. Every movement of mine was somehow perfectly mirrored by his. My heart was pounding so hard I knew he must be able to feel it and I was sure my legs were giving way, but he held me up, pushed me harder against the wall.
I grabbed a handful of his hair, remembering all the times I'd dreamed of doing it. I let my hand drift down his back and pulled him even closer to me. It all happened so quickly. I heard him make a low kind of growl and lean into me. His hand slid down my leg behind my knee, drawing it to him. I moaned and felt him tense. ~ Jessica Shirvington
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Jessica Shirvington
You are you and you are me. You are the Keshet. ~ Jessica Shirvington
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Jessica Shirvington
Linc?"
"Yeah."
"About the other thing my dad said to you," I cringed.
"What else is he supposed to think?" he asked, a smile in his tone. "You're over here all the time. If not training, we're hanging out. I'm surprised he hasn't warned me off sooner. It's good to see he's paying attention. ~ Jessica Shirvington
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Jessica Shirvington
Augustine, who assumed that Genesis 1 was chapter 1 in a book that contained the literal words of God, and that Genesis 2 was the second chapter in the same book, put the two chapters together and read the latter as a sequel. Genesis 2, he assumed, described the fall from the perfection and original goodness of creation depicted in chapter 1. So almost inevitably the Christian scriptures from the fourth century on were interpreted against the background of this (mis) understanding.

The primary trouble with this theory was that by the fourth century of the Common Era there were no Jews to speak of left in the Christian movement, and therefore the only readers and interpreters of the ancient Hebrew myths were Gentiles, who had no idea what these stories originally meant. Consequently, they interpreted them as perfection established by God in chapter 1, followed by perfection ruined by human beings in chapter 2. Why was that a problem? Well I, for one, have never known a Jewish scripture scholar to treat the Garden of Eden story in the same way that Gentiles treat it. Jews tend to see this story not as a narrative about sin entering the world, but as a parable about the birth of self-consciousness. It is, for the Jews, not a fall into sin, but a step into humanity. It is the birth of a new relationship with God, changing from master-servant to interdependent cooperation. The forbidden fruit was not from an apple tree, as so many who don't bother to read the text seem ~ John Shelby Spong
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by John Shelby Spong
An early spring started one morning in March with a swarm of sudden, glassy, bird cries, and then the cool jewelry of primrose and violet loosened themselves in the dirt. Then summer burst into the world like a gorgeous car accident- opening eyes all over our bodies in the brilliant light. Fall- the smell of pumpkin guts, sluttish and unsweetened. Until winter fell all over us like pieces of heaven, glazed with oxygen or ether, hitting the grounder in small, cold shards. It was like a year in Eden where no Eve had ever lived. ~ Laura Kasischke
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Laura Kasischke
Violet!' Lincoln said, then sighed. 'You don't love him. This isn't real. You know what's real and it's hard and it hurts and we can't ... Damn it, Vi
we're real! ~ Jessica Shirvington
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Jessica Shirvington
I think of all that happened since finding her. Barely a blink in my existence, but everything has changed ... We love the ones we hate.
And I hate her with all my heart ~ Jessica Shirvington
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Jessica Shirvington
No monster vibration, no snake universe hallucinations. Many tiny jeweled violet flowers along the path of a living brook that looked like Blake's illustration for a canal in grassy Eden: huge Pacific watery shore, Orlovsky dancing naked like Shiva long-haired before giant green waves, titanic cliffs that Wordsworth mentioned in his own Sublime, great yellow sun veiled with mist hanging over the planet's oceanic horizon. No harm. ~ Allen Ginsberg
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Allen Ginsberg
By using two elephants to do the job, damage will occur just because of how large, lumbering, and unsubtle elephants are. They squash the flowers in the process of entering the playground, they strew leftovers and garbage all over the place from the frequent snacks they must eat while balancing the seesaw, they wear out the seesaw faster, and so on. This is equivalent to a pattern of stress-related disease that will run through many of the subsequent chapters: it is hard to fix one major problem in the body without knocking something else out of balance (the very essence of allostasis spreading across systems throughout the body). Thus, you may be able to solve one bit of imbalance brought on during stress by using your elephants (your massive levels of various stress hormones), but such great quantities of those hormones can make a mess of something else in the process. And a long history of doing this produces wear and tear throughout the body, termed allostatic load. ~ Robert M. Sapolsky
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Robert M. Sapolsky
I am getting very old, and I began to wonder if I should ever live to see your chapters of our story. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
Violet remembered that slap; later her mother had called it a "love tap," as if to further confuse love with pain. ~ Koren Zailckas
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Koren Zailckas
I understood that every flower created by Him is beautiful, that the brilliance of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not lessen the perfume of the violet or the sweet simplicity of the daisy. I understood that if all the lowly flowers wished to be roses, nature would no longer be enamelled with lovely hues. And so it is in the world of souls, Our lord's living garden. ~ Therese De Lisieux
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Therese De Lisieux
A Socialist State demands precisely the same human symbols as that of Fascist or Nazi, and the same surrender of human liberties if it is to succeed. ~ Eden Phillpotts
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Eden Phillpotts
MATTIE FAE: I'm still very sexy, thank you very much. VIOLET: You're about as sexy as a wet cardboard box, Mattie Fae, you and me both. Don't kid yourself. ~ Tracy Letts
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Tracy Letts
I look into her eyes and a storm looks back. And all I wanna do is stand in the downpour. ~ Eden Connor
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Eden Connor
There are innumerable writing problems in an extended work. One book took a little more than six years. You, the writer, change in six years. The life around you changes. Your family changes. They grow up. They move away. The world is changing. You're also learning more about the subject. By the time you're writing the last chapters of the book, you know much more than you did when you started at the beginning. ~ David McCullough
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by David McCullough
To live, fiction must be read, and to be read it must be enjoyed. Why do so many people talk about the number of times they've lost interest in a book after a couple of chapters, or only "toughed it out" to the end out of a sense of obligation? I'd say it's because too many writers have forgotten that the writer's job isn't merely to express himself, it's to reach a reader. That doesn't mean pandering to the lowest common denominator. But it does mean that even a work of smart, thoughtful fiction should strive to engage and entertain. If you're a writer of literary fiction and all you're bringing to the party is a poetic turn of phrase or a deep thought, that's not enough. What about pace? Humour? Characters you care about and a smattering of suspense that makes you want to "find out what happens next?" All of these, plus rich language, bracing honesty and emotional resonance, should be components of the best, most thoughtful fiction. Because that's the sort of reading experience that readers should be able to expect from a novel that demands hours of their time. ~ Trevor Cole
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Trevor Cole
What are you doing a study on right now?"
"A study on the statistical probablity of love at first sight. ~ Jennifer E. Smith
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Jennifer E. Smith
There is more beauty in truth, even if it is a dreadful beauty. The storytellers at the city gate twist life so that it looks sweet to the lazy and the stupid and the weak, and this only strengthens their infirmities and teaches nothing, cures nothing, nor does it let the heart soar. ~ John Steinbeck
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by John Steinbeck
Life is like a book. There are good chapters, and there are bad chapters. But when you get to a bad chapter, you don't stop reading the book! If you do ... then you never get to find out what happens next! ~ Brian Falkner
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Brian Falkner
I always thought that about the Garden of Eden story," said Ford.
"Eh?"
"Garden of Eden. Tree. Apple. That bit, remember?"
"Yes of course I do."
"Your God person puts an apple tree in the middle of a garden and says do what you like guys, oh, but don't eat the apple. Surprise surprise, they eat it and he leaps out from behind a bush shouting 'Gotcha'. It wouldn't have any difference if they hadn't eaten it."
"Why not?"
"Because if you're dealing with somebody who has the sort of mentality which likes leaving hats on the pavement with bricks under them you know perfectly well they won't give up. They'll get you in the end."
"What are you talking about?"
"Never mind, eat the fruit. ~ Douglas Adams
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Douglas Adams
Each returning soldier is an in-the-flesh memoir of war. Their chapters might vary, but similar imagery fills the pages, and the theme of every book is the same
profound change. The big question became, could I live with that kind of change? ~ Ellen Hopkins
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Ellen Hopkins
Indeed, the KGB's nearly total control of the Russian Orthodox Church, both at home and abroad, is one of the most sordid and little known chapters in the history of our organization. ~ Oleg Kalugin
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Oleg Kalugin
I think in terms of chapters. Every time I finish a movie, it's a chapter. When one of my kids graduates from school, that's a chapter. ~ Steven Spielberg
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Steven Spielberg
Jacob thought about going home. He still had some American change, which he kept in an empty matchbox in his sock drawer, and one night, after he had finished his pancakes and jam, he took the coins out, spread them on the kitchen table, and admired the burnt sienna patina of one of the pennies, which in the candlelight was iridescent with violet and green where people's touch had salted it. The portrait of Lincoln was ugly and noble, and Jacob took off his glasses to look more closely. On the other side, an erratic line of shrubbery was engraved beside the Lincoln monument's steps. The idealism seemed to be in Lincoln rather than in the coin's design, which was homely. It was so homely, in fact, that there was a kind of democratic grandeur to it. It was the most beautiful currency in the world. Jacob was on the verge of tears. ~ Caleb Crain
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Caleb Crain
I am trying now to be entirely honest. I did actually comfort in the thought that the Devil had, on Strawless Common, defeated God. I much preferred that thought to the thought that God hadn't cared, hadn't helped Robin. I thought all the way back to the story of Eden. God, all-loving, all-wise, had surely wanted people to be happy and healthy and good; it was the Devil who spoiled it all ... and since so many people were miserable and sickly and bad the Devil must indeed by very powerful. The lifeless, voiceless thing, lately a singing boy, which they had cut down and put under a sack in the barn to await an unhallowed cross-road grave seemed to me to prove the power of the Devil.
Lady Alice Rowhedge ~ Norah Lofts
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Norah Lofts
We can write the new chapters in a visual language whose prose and poetry will need no translation. ~ Ernst Haas
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Ernst Haas
He's got claws!" Ben shook his head, hard.
"All the better to rip into prey." Jude took a step forward.
"What's up with his eyes? Why are they - "
"All the better to see the asshole who doesn't need to be attacking my lady. ~ Cynthia Eden
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Cynthia Eden
Another striding instance is recorded by the very intelligent traveler regarding a representation of the fall of our first parents, sculptured in the magnificent temple of Ipsambul in Nubia. He says that a very exact representation of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden is to be seen in that cave, and that the serpent climbing round the tree is especially delineated, and the whole subject of the tempting of our first parents most accurately exhibited. ~ Godfrey Higgins
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Godfrey Higgins
Women have been deceiving men since the Garden of Eden. They've had centuries of practice. ~ Michael Schmicker
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Michael Schmicker
Whoever will take the trouble of reading the book ascribed to Isaiah, will find it one of the most wild and disorderly compositions ever put together; it has neither beginning, middle, nor end; and, except a short historical part, and a few sketches of history in the first two or three chapters, is one continued incoherent, bombastical rant, full of extravagant metaphor, without application, and destitute of meaning; a school-boy would scarcely have been excusable for writing such stuff; it is (at least in translation) that kind of composition and false taste that is properly called prose run mad. ~ Thomas Paine
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Thomas Paine
I've been trying to redefine fragrance since I was a child - before I was ten. Throughout my life, certain fragrance notes have captured my imagination - especially liquorice, violet and anise, flooding back into my consciousness. ~ Lolita Lempicka
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Lolita Lempicka
It's not a great song unless it makes your DNA remember Eden and your spirit long for Home. ~ Mark Lowry
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Mark Lowry
I hate and fear snakes, because if you look into the eyes of any snake you will see that it knows all and more of the mystery of man's fall, and that it feels all the contempt that the Devil felt when Adam was evicted from Eden. Besides which its bite is generally fatal, and it twists up trouser legs.
("The Return Of Imray") ~ Rudyard Kipling
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Rudyard Kipling
Pigpen walks around the table and as he nears Violet, she stumbles back, but he's faster. With one long step, he engulfs Violet in a hug and lifts her into the air.
She slaps his shoulder, "Put me down, you fucking asshole."
"She's back!" Pigpen rocks her like she's a doll and then gently deposits he back on the ground. He places his hands on either side of her face, looks into her eyes with that crazy-ass smile on his face, then kisses the top of her head. "It's good to have you back, kid."
Violet smacks his hands off her face. "Get off me."
He winks. "Love you, too. ~ Katie McGarry
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Katie McGarry
Every person's story contains chapters of pain and loss, victory and defeat, love and hate, pride and prejudice, courage and fear, faith and self-distrust, charity and kindness, selfishness and jealously. Every person's story also contains folios of hopefulness and truthfulness, deceit and despair, action and change, passion and compassion, excitement and boredom, birth and creation, mutation and defect, generation and preservation, delusions and illusions, imagination and fantasy, bafflement and puzzlement. What makes a person's selfsame story unique is how he or she organizes the pure and impure forces that comprise them, how they respond to internal and external crisis, if they act in a safeguarding and humble manner, or lead a self-seeking and destructive existence. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
Sure thou did'st nourish once! and many springs, Many bright mornings, much dew, many showers, Passed o'er thy head; many light hearts and wings, Which now are dead, lodg'd in thy living bowers. And still a new succession sings and flies; Fresh groves grow up, and their green branches shoot Towards the old and still-enduring skies; While the low violet thrives at their root. ~ Henry Vaughan
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Henry Vaughan
I'll write maybe one long paragraph describing the events, then a page or two breaking the events into chapters, and then reams of pages delving into my characters. After that, I'm ready to begin. ~ Anne Tyler
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Anne Tyler
We are none of us born into Eden," Doc said reasonably. "world's plenty evil when we get here. Question is, what's the best way to play a bad hand?" ... ~ Mary Doria Russell
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Mary Doria Russell
The sky was rarely more than pale blue or violet, with a profusion of mighty, weightless, ever-changing clouds towering up and sailing on it, but it has blue vigour in it, and at a short distance it painted the ranges of hills and the woods a fresh deep blue. ~ Karen Blixen
Violet Eden Chapters quotes by Karen Blixen
Homosexuality is an ugly sin, repugnant to those who find no temptation in it, as well as to many past offenders who are seeking a way out of its clutches. It is embarrassing and unpleasant as a subject for discussion but because of its prevalence, the need to warn the uninitiated, and the desire to help those who may already be involved in it, it is discussed in this chapter. ~ Spencer W. Kimball
