When it first emerged, Twitter was widely derided as a frivolous distraction that was mostly good for telling your friends what you had for breakfast. Now it is being used to organize and share news about the Iranian political protests, to provide customer support for large corporations, to share interesting news items, and a thousand other applications that did not occur to the founders when they dreamed up the service in 2006. This is not just a case of cultural exaptation: people finding a new use for a tool designed to do something else. In Twitter's case, the users have been redesigning the tool itself. The convention of replying to another user with the @ symbol was spontaneously invented by the Twitter user base. Early Twitter users ported over a convention from the IRC messaging platform and began grouping a topic or event by the "hash-tag" as in "#30Rock" or "inauguration." The ability to search a live stream of tweets - which is likely to prove crucial to Twitter's ultimate business model, thanks to its advertising potential - was developed by another start-up altogether. Thanks to these innovations, following a live feed of tweets about an event - political debates or Lost episodes - has become a central part of the Twitter experience. But for the first year of Twitter's existence, that mode of interaction would have been technically impossible using Twitter. It's like inventing a toaster oven and then looking around a year later and discovering that all your custo ~ Steven Johnson

I write my own tweets. ~ Don Rickles
Tweets quotes by Don Rickles
The international limit on mobile texting, or SMS, is 160 characters. We wanted Twitter to be entirely readable and writable on every single one of the over five billion mobile phones on this planet, because they all have SMS built in. So we said it has to be within 160 characters, all the tweets. ~ Biz Stone

Most of my favorite tweets go completely ignored but most of my favorite tweets are probably really lame or inside jokes between me and my [redacted]. See what I did there? ~ Roxane Gay
Tweets quotes by Roxane Gay
Most of us still haven't grasped the fact that everything we commit to the digital space - not just our public blogs and broadcast tweets, but every private text message, email, and voicemail is likely to be stored and accessible. Forever. ~ Douglas Rushkoff
Tweets quotes by Douglas Rushkoff
Direct questions are the worst. Cops must know this--when someone asks you a question, it is really, really hard not to answer it. It's even harder when people dig up old tweets and put them side by side with new ones and you can't really explain the discrepancy. And then other people see the discrepancy and they start liking and retweeting and rephrasing. And they also see your silence, and your silence looks like an answer. It's an extremely effective interrogation tactic, and most people make either a tearful apology or an enraged counterattack.
This is why Twitter callouts tend to end so badly. Apology is never enough (and probably shouldn't be), so you're basically being asked to willingly give up power for no clear end. The best people actually do that. But the real shitfucks go on the offense, and then their communities get an infusion of victimhood narratives straight into their veins. ~ Hank Green
Tweets quotes by Hank Green
On the hinder slope of the hill two little goatherds are tending a flock of goats; one of them is sitting on a rock whittling a crook out of ash, while the other is trying to coax a few tweets out of a reed flute. ~ Camilo Jose Cela
Tweets quotes by Camilo Jose Cela
It's even more awkward when we're face to face with people. It used to be exciting to make plans with friends because you could sit and catch up and talk about what's been going on in your lives. Now when you see someone there's nothing left to say. You've already seen the pictures from their trip to Rio on Facebook. You've read their tweets about the latest diet they're on. And they already texted you about the pregnancy scare. So you end up just sitting and staring at each other until you both start texting other people. ~ Ellen DeGeneres
Tweets quotes by Ellen DeGeneres
Isabel's infamous tweets ranged from the cartoonish and impossible:
Im going to pull ur tongue out of ur mouth wrap it around ur neck n strangle u w it so hard ur eyes will pop out. i will pee in the sockets.
To the quaint:
Get ur fcking hands off him bitch i will cut u. #RupertLIsMine
To the cryptically disturbing:
I watch u in your sleep.
I would never condone Isabel's scary tweets, but you had to give the girl credit for managing to stay under 140 characters every time. ~ Goldy Moldavsky
Tweets quotes by Goldy Moldavsky
A word to the wise: one, possibly two hashtags is usually plenty. Don't give in to the temptation to pack your Tweets full of hashtags, because all the hyperlinks and # signs get messy in bulk. ~ Laura Fitton
Tweets quotes by Laura Fitton
The cure to eliminate fake news is that people stop reading 140-character tweets and start reading 600-page books. ~ Piero Scaruffi
Tweets quotes by Piero Scaruffi
Someone broke into my car last night. Nothing worth taking, car is actually less of a mess now. I should schedule this monthly. ~ Tony Hsieh
Tweets quotes by Tony Hsieh
I enjoy twitter accounts that are meticulously edited just as much as I enjoy twitter accounts that aren't edited at all, but it can feel kind of disappointing to me when I see that someone is editing their tweets out of self-consciousness. ~ Mira Gonzalez
Tweets quotes by Mira Gonzalez
I listen to the summer symphony outside my window. Truthfully, it's not a symphony at all. There's no tune, no melody, only the same notes over and over. Chirps and tweets and trills and burples. It's as if the insect orchestra is forever tuning its instruments, forever waiting for the maestro to tap his baton and bring them to order. I, for one, hope the maestro never comes. I love the music mess of it. ~ Jerry Spinelli
Tweets quotes by Jerry Spinelli
Why shouldn't it be that way for the rest of us? Why not just go with it? Just walk the dog and send the tweets and eat the scones and play with the hamsters and ride the bicycles and watch the sunsets and stream the movies and never worry about any of it? I didn't know it could be that easy. I didn't know that until just now. That sounds good to me. ~ Joshua Ferris
Tweets quotes by Joshua Ferris
The semiology and phenomenology of hashtaggery intrigues me. From what I understand, it all began very simply: on Twitter, hashtags - those little checkerboard marks that look like this # - were used to mark phrases or names, in order to make it easier to search for them among the zillions and zillions of tweets. ~ Susan Orlean
Tweets quotes by Susan Orlean
The amateur tweets. The pro works. ~ Steven Pressfield
Tweets quotes by Steven Pressfield
Whenever you write music, you want it to touch people on a certain level. I mean, I've been reading tweets about 'Troublemaker' and people saying 'OMG, I can so relate to this - this is a guy that I fancy, or a girl that I fancy; it's exactly like this person.' ~ Olly Murs
Tweets quotes by Olly Murs
Favoriting tweets has become a form of acknowledging that you've read what someone else has written. ~ Kenneth Goldsmith
Tweets quotes by Kenneth Goldsmith

Dude! you're still madly in love with her! ~ Subhasis Das
Tweets quotes by Subhasis Das
Being a famous writer is great. But there is a limit for it. For what extend can you be famous, and what would you achieve? True, your books will be best sellers, your blog writings and tweets will be hits, fans will love you, and what next? We all die to reach 'there' as budding writers, but once we reach 'it', we think, what next? Is this what we wanted all our lives? To grab all the leading awards, write best sellers, to be loved, to be known and heard? Will they help us achieve inner peace? I believe the utmost important thing is achieving inner peace, not money and fame. A writer should write to achieve inner peace forgetting all other things. Money, fame, fans are not going to last forever, but inner peace is. ~ Ama H. Vanniarachchy
Tweets quotes by Ama H. Vanniarachchy
We all have a history of digital texts, posts, messages, reposts/tweets that are sitting out there and can be used by anyone for any reason. ~ Mark Cuban
Tweets quotes by Mark Cuban
Hustling is to work what surfing the Internet is to reading. If you add up how much you read in a year on the Internet - tweets, Facebook posts, lists - you've read the equivalent of a shit ton of books, but in fact you've read no books in a year. When I look back on it, that's what hustling was. It's maximal effort put into minimal gain. It's a hamster wheel. ~ Trevor Noah
Tweets quotes by Trevor Noah
Christ has no online presence but yours, No blog, no Facebook page but yours, Yours are the tweets through which love touches this world, Yours are the posts through which the Gospel is shared, Yours are the updates through which hope is revealed. Christ has no online presence but yours, No blog, no Facebook page but yours. What we believe shapes how we relate to one another and interact with the world - wherever and however we relate and interact. You don't have to make too great a leap of faith or intellect to understand that by extension, what we believe provides a framework for using social media. ~ Meredith Gould
Tweets quotes by Meredith Gould
Reading off a page is like looking down at a landscape from a balloon – your eye "sees" the story as well as reads it, its layout, its paragraphs and structure, and "remembers" what it just read because it's still there, on the page, simultaneously. If you want to, you can reread any line instantly; or linger; or speed up; or optically "flinch." Reading a series of tweets is more like looking through a narrow window from a train speeding through a landscape full of tunnels and bands of light and dark. Each tweet erases its predecessor. ~ David Mitchell
Tweets quotes by David Mitchell
If somebody tweets 'I like Coca-Cola,' does that mean that they're actually going to buy Coca-Cola? One can? Two cans? Three cans? If they retweet someone else's Tweet, does that mean they're going to buy it? ~ Noreena Hertz
Tweets quotes by Noreena Hertz
I always separate myself from reviews, but tweets and Instagram comments, they go directly to my phone. It's hard to keep up. ~ Skylar Astin
Tweets quotes by Skylar Astin
The biggest reward is seeing via social media people sending me pictures back with excitement of what they bought from my fashion line. I ReTweet most everyone i see who tweets a photo. ~ Ashley Purdy
Tweets quotes by Ashley Purdy
Kierkegaard, in 'Either/Or,' makes fun of the 'busy man' for whom busyness is a way of avoiding an honest self-reckoning. You might wake up in the middle of the night and realize that you're lonely in your marriage, or that you need to think about what your level of consumption is doing to the planet, but the next day you have a million little things to do, and the day after that you have another million things. As long as there's no end of little things, you never have to stop and confront the bigger questions. Writing or reading an essay isn't the only way to stop and ask yourself who you really are and what your life might mean, but it is one good way. And if you consider how laughably unbusy Kierkegaard's Copenhagen was, compared with our own age, those subjective tweets and hasty blog posts don't seem so essayistic. They seem more like means of avoiding what a real essay might force on us. We spend our days reading, on screens, stuff we'd never bother reading in a printed book, and bitch about how busy we are. ~ Jonathan Franzen
Tweets quotes by Jonathan Franzen
It feels intimate and life affirming to me when someone tweets things that appear to just be insane thoughts they had and typed out then tweeted immediately, with little or no regard for how others might perceive them, simply because they were in a state of emotional desperation and felt like they didn't want to express those thoughts to anyone else. ~ Mira Gonzalez
Tweets quotes by Mira Gonzalez
It's true that I love to connect with my fans on the social networking sites, but I try not to go overboard, ever. I just give people a peek into my mind space, but never bombard them with my tweets. ~ A.R. Rahman
Tweets quotes by A.R. Rahman
Since Modi's Mumbai sign-off, much commentary has been focused on the brand-dilution potential inherent in its scandals. MS Dhoni doesn't think we should worry: 'IPL as a brand can survive on its own.' Shilpa Shetty, 'brand ambassador' of the Rajasthan Royals, tweets that we should: 'Custodians of Cricket must not hamper d Brandvalue of this viable sport.' Hampering d Brandvalue, insists new IPL boss Chirayu Amin, is the furthest thing from his mind: 'IPL's brand image is strong and nobody can touch that.' Harsha Bhogle, however, frets for the nation: 'Within the cricket world, Brand India will take a hit.'

Not much more than a week after Modi's first tell-all tweets, the media was anxiously consulting Brand Finance's managing director, Unni Krishnan. Had there been any brand dilution yet? It was, said the soothsayer gravely, 'too early to say'. He could, however, confirm the following: 'The wealth that can be created by the brand is going to be substantially significant for many stakeholders. A conducive ecosystem has to be created to move the brand to the next level… We have to build the requisite bandwidth to monetise these opportunities.' Er, yeah… what he said. Anyway, placing a value on the IPL brand has clearly been quite beneficial to Brand Finance's brand. ~ Gideon Haigh
Tweets quotes by Gideon Haigh
At my age I can handle people writing junk about me on social media, but I sometimes air "mean tweets" on my show to highlight how destructive this meanness and bullying is to young people. I know how devastating it is for a young person to be the victim of such ugliness. ~ Gretchen Carlson
Tweets quotes by Gretchen Carlson
And let me make the radical statement that I don't believe that you can say something profound in the 140 characters that make up a tweet. ~ Bernie Sanders
Tweets quotes by Bernie Sanders
IT'S NOT THE HONEY WHISKEY IN A FRIDAY NIGHT - IT'S THE MANIC SHOW OF POETRY TWEETS THAT TURNS ME ON. ~ Amy King
Tweets quotes by Amy King
Not everything that counts can be counted. You can count sales. You can count fans and followers. You can count pins and tweets. But you can't count passion. You can't count commitment. You can't count engagement. You can't count relationships. ~ John Kremer
Tweets quotes by John Kremer

When it comes to Twitter tweets I try to write things that are brilliant or sweet ~ Stanley Victor Paskavich
Tweets quotes by Stanley Victor Paskavich
Scary discovery of the day: Most people who RT @yokoono's tweets do so without irony. ~ James Taranto
Tweets quotes by James Taranto
Given enough time, everything changes. Maybe this sense of how fragile our connections are is what makes us obsessed with saving them - writing them down, taking pictures, recording them in tweets, documenting them with status updates and videos. It is clear to me now that when the earth does move beneath our feet - when our hearts slam and scrape and break apart - when we barely survive the flood, we take precautions. We ~ Aaron Hartzler
Tweets quotes by Aaron Hartzler
Social media teams tend to be decentralized - a motley mix of in-house experts, off-site consultants and international partners. The result: Confusion, rogue tweets, and off-message posts are almost inevitable. The worst gaffes live on in social media infamy. ~ Ryan Holmes
Tweets quotes by Ryan Holmes
I can put tweets on a map to show who is saying what where, which could be used for marketing or social research. ~ Jack Dangermond
Tweets quotes by Jack Dangermond
In just 200 tweets we can assess and identify 52 different personality traits of a customer. We ran an analysis over 500,000 people and we really nailed this. Think of providing this powerful insight to a retailer. We can see what they value, not just what they are buying. We have found a 40-45% increase in sales when you recommend upsales based on values instead of past buying behavior. ~ Sandy Carter
Tweets quotes by Sandy Carter
Fans believe they have a relationship with you, either through your TV character or, more reasonably, through the tweets you may have exchanged. In a way, you have gotten to know them. You learn about people's kids, families, pets. ~ Gina Bellman
Tweets quotes by Gina Bellman
Everybody is a writer. Everybody uses e-mail and has Facebook pages and tweets. ~ Mary Norris
Tweets quotes by Mary Norris
I wouldn't want to tweet to anyone who would be interested in my tweets. ~ Alice McDermott
Tweets quotes by Alice McDermott
When Bernie Sanders came along, and I liked his tweets and I read more about him, researched him more, I decided I like him and his policy, even more than just I like another guy in the Democratic Party, I really believed in it. And when you believe in something, you get out and work for it. ~ Killer Mike
Tweets quotes by Killer Mike

Do they give Pulitzers for tweets yet? ~ Natasha Leggero
Tweets quotes by Natasha Leggero
I get Tweets every day from people telling me that 'Hey, I'm going to overcome my injury or my illness. Cancer. Different diseases. I can beat it because Adrian Peterson showed me the determination and the willpower to be able to prosper and get through adversity whenever it comes.' ~ Adrian Peterson
Tweets quotes by Adrian Peterson
If I were to run for president, then people would debate the pros and cons of what's wrong with me in increasingly aggressive 140 character tweets and Facebook status updates, and, inevitably, everyone would end up fighting. ~ Jen Lancaster
Tweets quotes by Jen Lancaster
People will send me tweets or texts, 'Yo, I'm at Red Lobster now and they're playing Mayer Hawthorne,' more of that kind of stuff, which is hilarious. ~ Mayer Hawthorne

Tweets quotes by Mira Gonzalez
Some kid gets his first iPhone, signs up to Twitter, and then tweets, 'Nikki Sixx sucks.' And I'm supposed to take that personally. ~ Nikki Sixx
Tweets quotes by Nikki Sixx
When was the last time we took a verse like, "Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving" (Eph. 5:4) and even began to try to apply this to our conversation, our movies, our YouTube clips, our television and commercial intake? What does it mean that there must not be even a hint of immorality among the saints (v. 3)? It must mean something. In our sex-saturated culture, I would be surprised if there were not at least a few hints of immorality in our texts and tweets and inside jokes. And what about our clothes, our music, our flirting, and the way we talk about people who aren't in the room? ~ Kevin DeYoung
Tweets quotes by Kevin DeYoung
I don't just post a video and then get offline. After uploading, I love to respond to comments, tweets, and messages about the video. ~ Bethany Mota
Tweets quotes by Bethany Mota
Is that how you're supposed to find your soulmate and fall in love these days? By flirting in 140 character tweets and stalking each other's social media pages? ~ Alexandra Potter
Tweets quotes by Alexandra Potter

another from the world of tweets ~ Robin Glasser
Tweets quotes by Robin Glasser
I don't read all the junk. I joke if I did, I wouldn't get out of bed in the morning. But, Sometimes the comments over the top - really ugly. Many of them are critical of my looks, like the one that criticized my "thunder thighs." I get that a lot. Some of the tweets are too vulgar to repeat. ~ Gretchen Carlson
Tweets quotes by Gretchen Carlson
For comedians, we're all kind of tweeting our thoughts instead of spending time developing them. You can gauge how good a joke might be by how many times it gets retweeted, but it takes discipline to go back through the tweets and then develop jokes from them. ~ Natasha Leggero
Tweets quotes by Natasha Leggero
For me, Twitter works best as a way of taking pictures of being stuck in traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge. If people really want to read really funny quips about life, parenting, and pop culture, then by all means read Michael Ian Black's tweets. ~ Michael Showalter
Tweets quotes by Michael Showalter
Anytime people read my tweets, they hear it in Auto-Tune. ~ T-Pain
Tweets quotes by T-Pain
We came to the city because we wished to live haphazardly, to reach for only the least realistic of our desires, and to see if we could not learn what our failures had to teach, and not, when we came to live, discover that we had never died. We wanted to dig deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to be overworked and reduced to our last wit. And if our bosses proved mean, why then we'd evoke their whole and genuine meanness afterward over vodka cranberries and small batch bourbons. And if our drinking companions proved to be sublime then we would stagger home at dawn over the Old City cobblestones, into hot showers and clean shirts, and press onward until dusk fell again. For the rest of the world, it seemed to us, had somewhat hastily concluded that it was the chief end of man to thank God it was Friday and pray that Netflix would never forsake them.

Still we lived frantically, like hummingbirds; though our HR departments told us that our commitments were valuable and our feedback was appreciated, our raises would be held back another year. Like gnats we pestered Management - who didn't know how to use the Internet, whose only use for us was to set up Facebook accounts so they could spy on their children, or to sync their iPhones to their Outlooks, or to explain what tweets were and more importantly, why - which even we didn't know. Retire! we wanted to shout. We ha Get out of the way with your big thumbs and your senior moments and your nostalgia for 1976! W ~ Kristopher Jansma
Tweets quotes by Kristopher Jansma
I'm not one to go on blogs and things like that, but we do have our own personal Twitter profiles, so we get a lot of tweets, and they are pretty passionate. It's fun. I like it. ~ Katharine McPhee
Tweets quotes by Katharine McPhee
There are over 1.5 billion tweets generated every 2 days and over 30 billion pieces of content shared each month on Facebook (Kiss Metrics). ~ Bryan Kramer

It seems like I'm not [happy]. Because if you look at my tweets and what I think and say, it seems like I'm worried about what's going to happen. ~ Tao Lin
Tweets quotes by Tao Lin
I don't like to be overexposed. Too many articles, too many tweets, too many posts, I just don't like that. But at the same time, we live in a culture where that's almost necessary. People want content and they want their stuff when they want it. ~ Issa Rae
Tweets quotes by Issa Rae
I've never gone on Facebook and am not sure I understand it. The same goes for Twitter. I have someone sending tweets and pretending to be me, but I don't know why. ~ David Sedaris
Tweets quotes by David Sedaris
It's like any time a white friend suggests Korean barbecue. Or when I see a Food Network special where some tattooed white dude with a nineteenth-century-looking beard-and-mustache combo introduces viewers to this kimchi al pastor bánh mì monstrosity he peddles from a food truck that sends out location tweets. It's like when white people tell me how much they love kimchee and bull-go-ghee, and the words just roll off their tongues as if there exists nothing irreconcilable between the two languages.
It's like, don't touch my shit.
It's difficult to articulate because I know it's not rational. But as a bilingual immigrant from Korea, as someone who code-switches between Korean and English daily while running errands or going to the supermarket, not to mention the second-nature combination of the languages that I'll speak with my parents and siblings, switching on and switching off these at times unfeasibly different sounds, dialects, grammatical structures? It's fucking irritating. I don't want to be stingy about who gets to enjoy all these fermented wonders -- I'm glad the stigma around our stinky wares is dissolving away. But when my husband brings me a plate of food he made out of guesswork with a list of ingredients I've curated over the years of my burgeoning adulthood with the implicit help of my mother, my grandmother, and my grandmother's mother who taught me the patience of peeling dozens of garlic cloves in a sitting with bare hands, it puts me in snap-me-pf ~ Sung Yim
Tweets quotes by Sung Yim
A tweet a day keeps writer's block away. ~ Buffy Andrews
Tweets quotes by Buffy Andrews
I've always considered myself to look like a rather plain-and-exhausted bluestocking, so it's rather odd to read Tweets commenting on my appearance. ~ Kate Williams
Tweets quotes by Kate Williams
I am someone who tweets about what I have for breakfast, what I have for lunch, what I have for dinner, and for 99.99999 percent of the world, it's useless. It's meaningless. But for my mother, she loves it. ~ Jack Dorsey
Tweets quotes by Jack Dorsey
Corporate tweets are like one robot talking to another. ~ Tucker Max
Tweets quotes by Tucker Max
The biggest journalistic game-changer of our time has been the rise of social media and the overgrowth of faux news sources - league- and team-sponsored blogs, player tweets, fanboy sites, rumor mills - churning bits of information and speculation into a clattering fog storm. Who will cut through the drivel and whim-wham to tell us what's really going on? ~ Robert Lipsyte
Tweets quotes by Robert Lipsyte
In the past, a writer had to go outside and get to know others before learning about their work, but the Internet has made humanity more accessible for misanthropes like me. I read blogs, tweets, Facebook posts and Reddit threads where people detail their jobs. ~ Victor LaValle
Tweets quotes by Victor LaValle
Technology has bridged the gap of distant communication, bringing friends and family closely together but no matter the number of 'likes', tweets, chats, comments, posts and shares, none can compare to a sincere smile, a kind kiss and a warm hug ~ Bernard Kelvin Clive
Tweets quotes by Bernard Kelvin Clive
Why not just go with it? Just walk the dog and send the tweets and eat the scones and play with the hamsters and ride the bicycles and watch the sunsets and stream the movies and never worry about any of it? I didn't know it could be that easy. I didn't know that until just now. That sounds good to me. I think I might be able to do that. Who couldn't do that? It would take somebody mentally ill not to do that, and I'm not mentally ill. ~ Joshua Ferris
Tweets quotes by Joshua Ferris
Trump's defense is in his tweets. Insanity. ~ A.K. Kuykendall
Tweets quotes by A.K. Kuykendall
I'm still kinda old-school. We're twittering, and we're all twitterers. And we write tweets. The only thing I don't love is twits. ~ Biz Stone
Tweets quotes by Biz Stone
Every day, I get five pieces of hate mail: Tweets or hate emails. ~ Guy Kawasaki
Tweets quotes by Guy Kawasaki
For anyone who devours the web on a daily basis, the biggest problem is too much of a good thing. There's so much extraordinary content - from articles to images, videos and Tweets - that it's almost impossible to keep track of it. ~ Ryan Holmes
Tweets quotes by Ryan Holmes
I actually quite love following Lisa Rinna on Twitter, because she tweets like I tweet, which is like, 'Just dropped off the kids!' Or, 'Hey, here's a great sale at the grocery store!' It's such real life, and to me she's like a celebrity - she looks like Hollywood to me - that following her makes me feel like, stars are just like us! ~ Ross Mathews
Tweets quotes by Ross Mathews
The paradigm of social media is one that Silicon Valley would like to extend to society at large: a technocracy of benevolent, but total, surveillance. In this kind of society, profits flow to platform owners, not those writing tweets and sharing YouTube videos. ~ Jacob Silverman
Tweets quotes by Jacob Silverman
Those who can sit in a chair, undistracted for hours, mastering subjects and creating things will rule the world - while the rest of us frantically and futilely try to keep up with texts, tweets, and other incessant interruptions. ~ Arianna Huffington
Tweets quotes by Arianna Huffington
I spend all day replying to tweets and reblogging posts and sharing fan art. I think it's the most important thing I can possibly do, to stay involved in the community as a part of the community, not ahead of the community. I'm very much the same level of them in it. ~ Tyler Oakley
Tweets quotes by Tyler Oakley
So why is Chinese social networking booming despite the censorship? Part of the reason is the Chinese language. Posts on Twitter and Twitter clones such as Weibo are limited to 140 characters. In English that comes to about 20 words or a sentence with a short link - in effect, a headline. But in Chinese you can write a whole paragraph or tell a whole story in 140 characters. One Chinese tweet is equal to 3.5 English tweets. In some ways, Weibo (which means "microblog" in Chinese) is more like Facebook than Twitter. As far as the Chinese are concerned, if something is not on Weibo, it does not exist. ~ Michael Anti
Tweets quotes by Michael Anti
I compose most of my tweets with care, as if they were aphorisms - they are not usually dashed-off. Sometimes I'm surprised by the high, poetic quality of Twitter - it lends itself to a surreal sort of self-expression. ~ Joyce Carol Oates
Tweets quotes by Joyce Carol Oates
Losing the Internet has forced them to interact verbally instead of microblogging their lives, but a lot of them still talk in Tweets:
"Ugh! I'm standing in line at the post office."
"I'm not eating the crusts on my sandwich because apparently I'm five. ~ Wayne Gladstone
Tweets quotes by Wayne Gladstone
Tweets are not diseased rings of glitchy minds. They're epigrams, aphorisms, maxims, dictums, taglines, captions, slogans, and adages. Some are art, some are commercial; these are forms with integrity. ~ Virginia Heffernan
Tweets quotes by Virginia Heffernan
Whose idea was it that we should all get jobs, work faster, work better, race from place to place with our brains stewing on tweets, blogs, and sound bites, on must-see movies, must-do experiences, must-have gadgets, when in the end, all any of us will have is our simple beating heart, reaching up for the connection to whoever might be in the room or leaning into our mattress as we draw our last breath? ~ Dee Williams
Tweets quotes by Dee Williams
I will sometimes post tweets that are about a specific person or people, in which case I will imagine the people I am tweeting about to be my audience. ~ Mira Gonzalez
Tweets quotes by Mira Gonzalez
I just talk just to talk. I like to see what other people think. There's some things somebody tweets me every day where I'm like, 'Wow, I never thought of this issue that way.' It starts great conversation with people who I would never get a chance to actually communicate with. ~ Torrey Smith
Tweets quotes by Torrey Smith
If you add up how much you read in a year on the Internet-tweets, Facebook posts, lists - you've read the equivalent of a shit ton of books, but in fact you've read no books in a year. ~ Trevor Noah
Tweets quotes by Trevor Noah
The fans reaction to the record (Red) is incredible. Taylor has been reading many tweets lately and wanted to thank her fans with what they ask for the most.
