Chanting is a significant and mysterious practice. It is the highest nectar, a tonic that fully nourishes our inner being. Chanting opens the heart and makes love flow within us. It releases such intoxicating inner bliss and enthusiastic splendor, that simply through the nectar it generates, we can enter the abode of the Self. ~ Swami Muktananda
Tonic quotes by Swami Muktananda
I shall be well enough when I get to Kentucky or Alabama. The tonic I need is the tonic of opposition. That always sets me on my feet. ~ Dorothea Dix
Tonic quotes by Dorothea Dix
Sex without smiling is as sickly and as base as vodka and tonic without ice. ~ Stephen Fry
Tonic quotes by Stephen Fry
Christmas is a tonic for our souls. It moves us to think of others rather than of ourselves. It directs our thoughts to giving. ~ B.C. Forbes
Tonic quotes by B.C. Forbes
Gardening is the greatest tonic and therapy a human being can have. Even if you have only a tiny piece of earth, you can create something beautiful, which we all have a great need for. If we begin by respecting plants, it's inevitable we'll respect people. ~ Audrey Hepburn
Tonic quotes by Audrey Hepburn

Jacob orders a Campari and tonic, and I order tea, as planned. ~ Paulo Coelho
Tonic quotes by Paulo Coelho
Here, if nowhere else in the land, the sense of satiety is unknown; and it is to this mental tonic, even more than to the bracing air of the heights, that we owe the unwearied spirit which nerves us to walk more leagues upon the mountains than we could walk miles upon the plain. For in the lowlands we walk with the body only; in the highlands we walk with the mind ~ Henry Stephens Salt
Tonic quotes by Henry Stephens Salt
Writing constantly is the best tonic to jealousy I've found. ~ L. E. Henderson
Tonic quotes by L. E. Henderson
Professional happiness is the tonic of longevity. ~ Garry Fitchett
Tonic quotes by Garry Fitchett
And when Prohibition came along, Dr. Sharpe's Shakti Tonic took off like a rocket, mostly due to its hefty eighteen percent alcohol content. ~ Donald O'Donovan
Tonic quotes by Donald O'Donovan
It was the sort of pub Alan liked, furnished with wall- to-wall forty-five-year-old gin-and-tonic drinkers. A notice on the wall behind the bar read: Please do not ask for credit, as a punch in the mouth often causes offence. ~ Barry Graham
Tonic quotes by Barry Graham
Humor is a tonic for life's trials. Laughter is the music of the soul. May your day have plenty of each ~ Richard Farley
Tonic quotes by Richard Farley
Part of her doing suicide intervention is my caseworker has to mix me another gin and tonic. ~ Chuck Palahniuk
Tonic quotes by Chuck Palahniuk
But grief is also a tonic. It is a healing elixir, made of tears that lubricate the heart. ~ Elizabeth Lesser
Tonic quotes by Elizabeth Lesser
If the October days were a cordial like the sub-acids of fruit, these are a tonic like the wine of iron. Drink deep or be careful how you taste this December vintage. The first sip may chill, but a full draught warms and invigorates. ~ John Burroughs
Tonic quotes by John Burroughs
Along with the violent tonic-clonic seizure, it turned out I had also been experiencing complex partial seizures because of overstimulation in my temporal lobes, generally considered to be the most "ticklish" part of the brain. The temporal lobe houses the ancient structures of the hippocampus and the amygdala, the parts of the brain responsible for emotion and memory. The symptoms from this type of seizure can range from a "Christmas morning" feeling of euphoria to sexual arousal to religious experiences. ~ Susannah Cahalan
Tonic quotes by Susannah Cahalan
Those words, though heaven only knew how often she had heard them, still gave her her thrill. They braced her like a tonic. Life acquired significance. She was about to step from the world of make-believe into the world of reality. ~ W. Somerset Maugham
Tonic quotes by W. Somerset Maugham
Heaven sends us misfortunes as a moral tonic. ~ Marguerite Gardiner, Countess Of Blessington
Tonic quotes by Marguerite Gardiner, Countess Of Blessington
she shook me to the core. She was an earthquake, and I was changed forever because of her. ~ Staci Hart
Tonic quotes by Staci Hart
Skepticism is the tonic of the mind . ~ Joseph Conrad
Tonic quotes by Joseph Conrad
My good health is due to a soup made of white doves. It is simply wonderful as a tonic. ~ Chiang Kai-shek
Tonic quotes by Chiang Kai-shek
The best tonic for soreness is to do the movement that got you sore in the first place. ~ Dan John
Tonic quotes by Dan John
Over-familiar, the music has become a kind of audio-Valium, background music rather than something I listen to actively and attentively. A gin and tonic after a long day. A shame, I think, because while each note remains the same, I used to hear them differently. It used to sound better. ~ David Nicholls
Tonic quotes by David Nicholls
Personally, I believe a rocking hammock, a good cigar, and a tall gin-and-tonic is the way to save the planet. ~ P. J. O'Rourke
Tonic quotes by P. J. O'Rourke
The response man has the greatest difficulty in tolerating is pity, especially when he warrants it. Hatred is a tonic, it makes one live, it inspires vengeance, but pity kills, it makes our weakness weaker. ~ Honore De Balzac
Tonic quotes by Honore De Balzac
To tell an adult exactly what steps to take towards his salvation was apt to weaken him. It deprived him of his inalienable right to trial and error which was tonic to the character. ~ Frances Gray Patton
Tonic quotes by Frances Gray Patton
In prosperous times I have sometimes felt my fancy and powers of language flag, but adversity is to me at least a tonic and bracer. ~ Walter Scott
Tonic quotes by Walter Scott
Mrs. Pocket was at home, and was in a little difficulty, on account of the baby's having been accommodated with a needle case to keep him quiet during the unaccountable absence (with a relative in the Foot Guards) of Millers. And more needles were missing than it could be regarded as quite wholesome for a patient of such tender years either to apply externally or to take as a tonic. ~ Charles Dickens
Tonic quotes by Charles Dickens
Because thankfulness is the tonic that always cures the cancers of greed, envy and jealously, it should be taken in liberal doses daily. ~ Craig D. Lounsbrough
Tonic quotes by Craig D. Lounsbrough
This book is a string of fine pearls to be hung round the neck of human intelligence; a fragrant flower to be borne on the turband of mental wisdom; a jewel of pure gold, which becomes the brow of all supreme minds; and a handful of powdered rubies, whose tonic effects will appear palpably upon the mental digestion of every patient. ~ Anonymous

There's no tonic like an old friend. ~ Stephen King
Tonic quotes by Stephen King
Strychnine is a grand tonic, Kemp, to take the flabbiness out of a man. ~ H.G.Wells
Tonic quotes by H.G.Wells
They were interrupted as a young girl walked along the pavement in front of the sessions house, calling, "Flowers! Fresh-cut flowers!" She stopped in front of them. "Posy for the lady, sir?"
Ransom turned to the girl, who wore a colorful scarf over her long dark hair and a patchwork apron over her black dress. She carried a flat basket filled with posyes, their stems wrapped with bits of colored ribbon.
"There's no need-" Garrett began, but Ransom ignored her, browsing over the tiny bouquets of roses, narcissus, violets, forget-me-nots, and dianthus.
"How much?" he asked the flower girl.
"A farthing, sir."
He glanced at Garrett over his shoulder. "Do you like violets?"
"I do," she said hesitantly.
Ransom gave the flower-girl a sixpence and picked out one of the posyes.
"Thank you, sir!" The girl scurried away as if fearing he might change his mind.
Ransom turned to Garrett with the cluster of purple blossoms. Reaching for the lapel of her walking jacket, he deftly tucked the ribbon-wrapped stem of the posy into a buttonhole.
"Violets make an excellent blood-purifying tonic," Garrett said awkwardly, feeling the need to fill the silence. "And they're good for treating cough or fever."
The elusive dimple appeared in his cheek. "They're also becoming to green-eyed women. ~ Lisa Kleypas
Tonic quotes by Lisa Kleypas
When tragedy established itself in England it did so in terms of plots and spectacle that had much more to do with medieval apocalypse than with the mythos and opsis of Aristotle. Later, tragedy itself succumbs to the pressure of 'demythologizing'; the End itself, in modern literary plotting loses its downbeat, tonic-and-dominant finality, and we think of it, as the theologians think of Apocalypse, as immanent rather than imminent. Thus, as we shall see, we think in terms of crisis rather than temporal ends; and make much of subtle disconfirmation and elaborate peripeteia. And we concern ourselves with the conflict between the deterministic pattern any plot suggests, and the freedom of persons within that plot to choose and so to alter the structure, the relation of beginning, middle, and end.

Naïvely predictive apocalypses implied a strict concordance between beginning, middle, and end. Thus the opening of the seals had to correspond to recorded historical events. Such a concordance remains a deeply desired object, but it is hard to achieve when the beginning is lost in the dark backward and abysm of time, and the end is known to be unpredictable. This changes our views of the patterns of time, and in so far as our plots honour the increased complexity of these ways of making sense, it complicates them also. If we ask for comfort from our plots it will be a more difficult comfort than that which the archangel offered Adam:

How soon hath thy prediction, ~ Frank Kermode
Tonic quotes by Frank Kermode
Cats are a tonic, they are a laugh, they are a cuddle, they are at least pretty just about all of the time and beautiful some of the time. ~ Roger A. Caras
Tonic quotes by Roger A. Caras
I blew the lot on vodka and tonic, gambling and fags. Looking back, I think I overdid it on the tonic. ~ Stan Bowles
Tonic quotes by Stan Bowles
Do you think it was my fault that she drank?" my father asked not long ago. It's the assumption of an amateur, someone who stops after his second vodka tonic and quits taking his pain medication before the prescription runs out. It's almost laughable, this insistence on a reason. I think my mother was lonely without her children - her fan club. But I think she drank because she was an alcoholic. ~ David Sedaris
Tonic quotes by David Sedaris
The gin and tonic has saved more Englishmen's lives, and minds, than all the doctors in the Empire. ~ Winston Churchill
Tonic quotes by Winston Churchill
As with any other great force of nature, there is both glory and danger in the stories we tell ourselves. Some are toxic and keep our problems festering. Others are tonic and bring us beyond the limitations of our previous history. To be in a life of our own definition, we must be able to discover which stories we are following and determine which ones help us grow the most interesting possibilities. ~ Dawna Markova
Tonic quotes by Dawna Markova
Arthur shook his head and sat down. He looked up.
"I thought you must be dead ... " he said simply.
"So did I for a while," said Ford, "and then I decided I was a lemon for a couple of weeks. I kept myself amused all that time jumping in and out of a gin and tonic. ~ Douglas Adams
Tonic quotes by Douglas Adams
Forgiveness is the best tonic for heart. ~ Debasish Mridha
Tonic quotes by Debasish Mridha
A good book holds you down. It's an anchor that keeps you from getting up and having another gin and tonic. ~ Roy Blount, Jr.
Tonic quotes by Roy Blount, Jr.
I have discovered, passionate grief does not link us with the dead but cuts us off from them. This becomes clearer and clearer. It is just at those moments when I feel least sorrow - getting into my morning bath is usually one of them - that H. rushes upon my mind in her full reality, her otherness. Not, as in my worst moments, all foreshortened and patheticized and solemnized by my miseries, but as she is in her own right. This is good and tonic. ~ C.S. Lewis
Tonic quotes by C.S. Lewis
I'm now writing out of rage - and I feel a kind of Nietzschean elation. It's tonic. I roar with laughter. I want to denounce everybody, tell everybody off. I go to my typewriter as I might go to my machine gun. But I'm safe. I don't have to face the consequences of 'real' aggressivity. I'm sending out colis piégés ['booby-trapped packages'] to the world. ~ Susan Sontag
Tonic quotes by Susan Sontag
He didn't object as she took up a place at the head of the tub and dumped some of the tonic into his short hair. The sweet, night-filled scent of jasmine floated up, caressing and kissing her. Even Rowan breathed it in as she scrubbed the tonic into his scalp. "I could still probably braid this," she mused. "Very teensy-tiny braids, so - " He growled, but leaned back against the tub, his eyes closed. "You're no better than a house cat," she said, massaging his head. He let out a low noise in his throat that might have very well have been a purr.

Washing his hair was intimate-a privilege she doubted he'd ever allowed many people; something she'd never done for anyone else. But lines had always been blurred for them, and neither of them had particularly cared. He'd seen every inch of her several times, and she'd seen most of him. They'd shared a bed for months. On top of that, they were carranam. He'd let her inside his power, past his inner barriers, to where half a thought from her could have shattered his mind. So washing his hair, touching him... it was an intimacy, but it was essential, too. ~ Sarah J. Maas
Tonic quotes by Sarah J. Maas
I'm an Earth ecstatic, and my creed is simple: All life is sacred, life loves life, and we are capable of improving our behavior toward one another. As basic as that is, for me it's also tonic and deeply spiritual, glorifying the smallest life-form and embracing the most distant stars. ~ Diane Ackerman
Tonic quotes by Diane Ackerman
Maybe try the hipster ones."
"You're so hot, I better date you before you're cool!" Quincy shouted. "My feelings for you are one hundred percent organic and locally sourced! Are you gluten-free tonight, because I'd like to take you on a date! I'd still care about you even if you went mainstream! Roses are red, your shirt is ironic, your drink of choice is probably a mason jar filled with a vodka tonic! ~ T.J. Klune
Tonic quotes by T.J. Klune
Blues is a tonic for whatever ails you. I could play the blues and then not be blue anymore. ~ B.B. King
Tonic quotes by B.B. King
She ordered white wine, and I ordered Schweppes tonic water without the booze. The drinks came, and I took a hit.
The first thing she said was, "I don't know how you can drink that stuff straight?"
"You mean without the liquor to kill the taste?"
"Yeah, it's so bitter."
"That's what I like about it. It's bitter like me. We match."
"You mean you're a grumpy old man?"
"Right. Can't help it. That's what happens when you get old."
"Well, I'm an optimist."
"I'm an optimist too, just a grumpy optimist. ~ Robert Hobkirk
Tonic quotes by Robert Hobkirk
Close your mouth, E'lir Kvothe, or I will feel obliged to put some vile tonic in it. ~ Patrick Rothfuss
Tonic quotes by Patrick Rothfuss
But music is very important. Music is a tonic for the pineal gland. Music isn't Bach or Beethoven; music is the can opener of the soul. It makes you terribly quiet inside, makes you aware that there's a roof to your being. ~ Henry Miller
Tonic quotes by Henry Miller
Clean hearts and healthful food, exercise, early sleep and fresh air, wholesome recreation and meditation combined with optimism that comes from fighting for the right and knowing you'll eventually win for keeps - this is the tonic every true Christian patriot needs and deserves. ~ Ezra Taft Benson
Tonic quotes by Ezra Taft Benson
Kaz's flat black gaze fastened on Kuwei and held. Kuwei squirmed nervously. "Why is he looking at me this way?"
"Kaz is wondering if he should keep you alive," said Jesper. "Terrible for the nerves. I recommend deep breathing. Maybe a tonic. ~ Leigh Bardugo
Tonic quotes by Leigh Bardugo
Cynics are spoiled romantics. They are always the ones who had the highest expectations at the start. They were once so naïve themselves that they despise naïvety more than any other quality. Alchemists, they turn grief to gold. They take quinine in their tonic, Campari with their soda - bitterness is an acquired taste. Cynics have learned to drink poison and like it. They are resourceful people, though the sad thing is, they know what's happened to them. They remember what they wanted to be when they grew up, and not a single one of them dreamt of becoming a cynic. ~ Lionel Shriver
Tonic quotes by Lionel Shriver
The tonic of success is a marvelous producer as well as stimulant. By the law of mental magnetism one success attracts another, and after we begin to win it is comparatively easy to keep on winning. ~ Orison Swett Marden
Tonic quotes by Orison Swett Marden
We borrowed it all from Coltrane. I started encouraging everybody in the band to listen to John Coltrane - 'Check it out, see what these guys do.' They take one chord, the tonic chord, and just play all over it. 'We can do that too!' I wanted to make our music something really amazing - I wanted it to be jaw-dropping and turn on a dime and do all of those things that I knew music could do, and nobody told us we couldn't do it. I shouldn't say 'I,' though - Jerry Garcia was behind it the whole way. ~ Phil Lesh
Tonic quotes by Phil Lesh
How can we appraise a proposal if the terms hurled at our ears can mean anything or nothing, and change their significance with the inflection of the voice? Welfare state, national socialism, radical, liberal, conservative, reactionary and a regiment of others ... these terms in today's usage, are generally compounds of confusion and prejudice. If our attitudes are muddled, our language is often to blame. A good tonic for clearer thinking is a dose of precise, legal definition. ~ Dwight D. Eisenhower
Tonic quotes by Dwight D. Eisenhower
Insecurity is a toxin and confidence is a tonic, so make the choice not to dwell on the worst possible case. ~ Emily Yoffe
Tonic quotes by Emily Yoffe
Difficulties should act as a tonic. They should spur us to greater exertion. ~ B.C. Forbes
Tonic quotes by B.C. Forbes

Mindful breathing is a basic wonderful pleasure for life. Breathing calms our body and mind to unify our soul within the present moment. Breathing is a supreme gift from Mother Nature, giving universal pranic energy which one guides within.

Savadhyaya is the practice of inward reflection, honest self-observation and learning. Whatever you do, wherever you are, find contentment and simply be there, because that's exactly where you need to be. ~ Eva
Tonic quotes by Eva
Sometimes you see English people going out to pub, bar or disco with friends, standing awkwardly together drinking beer or gin and tonic and waiting for something 'romantic' to happen. Usually nothing happens apart from everybody getting drunk, which is hardly romantic. So, typically, instead of meeting Mr or Miss Right they meet Mr or Miss Right Now, which lasts as long as there is enough alcohol circulating in the blood vessel. ~ Angela Kiss
Tonic quotes by Angela Kiss
Used with due abstinence, hope acts as a healthful tonic; intemperately indulged, as an enervating opiate. The visions of future triumph, which at first animate exertion, if dwelt upon too intently, will usurp the place of the stern reality; and, noble objects will be contemplated, not for their own inherent worth, but on account of the day-dreams they engender. Thus hope, aided by imagination, makes one man a hero, another a somnambulist, and a third a lunatic; while it renders them all enthusiasts. ~ James Fitzjames Stephen
Tonic quotes by James Fitzjames Stephen
I grew up in Deptford in south London, and at that time I used to wear toppers, loon pants and tonic suits from shops like Take 6 and Topman. I was a bit of a soul boy, but I had a very eclectic taste in music - I was into James Brown and Bowie; and I was the only kid in the neighbourhood who would also be listening to Chopin. ~ Gary Oldman
Tonic quotes by Gary Oldman
In all the music I've done, what I'm really interested in above all else, and I'm not sure it's what one should be interested in, is the kind of - you know, people talk about work progressions, which doesn't really make sense with pop music because there is no progression, because there is no tonic, because there is no more tonality. ~ John Maus
Tonic quotes by John Maus
The helpless ecstasy of loosing himself in her charm was a powerful opiate rather than a tonic. ~ F Scott Fitzgerald
Tonic quotes by F Scott Fitzgerald
I'm hooked on gin and tonics like your mama's Hooked on Phonics. ~ Tash
Tonic quotes by Tash
I don't know what reception I'm at, but for God's sake give me a gin and tonic. ~ Denis Thatcher
Tonic quotes by Denis Thatcher
Was to filter hair tonic through bread and then mix it with grape juice. Like virtually every other drink devised in the Pacific, it was known as Jungle Juice. ~ Stephen E. Ambrose
Tonic quotes by Stephen E. Ambrose
Blacko-oxy-tonic phosphate, it's the latest scoop. But that's alright girls, you can call it goop. ~ Elvis Presley
Tonic quotes by Elvis Presley
Lauren had hoped to make him notice her as a woman, and he was certainly noticing her. Now she rather hoped he would say something nice. But he didn't.
Without a word he turned on his heel, strode over to the bar and dumped the ocntents of one of the glasses into the stainless steel bar sink. "What are you doing?" Lauren asked.
His voice was filled with amused irony. "Adding some gin to your tonic."
Lauren burst out laughing, and he glanced over his shoulder at her, a wry smile twisting his lips. "Just out of curiosity, how old are you?"
"Twenty-three."
"And you were applying for a secretarial position at Sinco-before you threw yourself at our feet tonight?" he prompted, adding a modest amount of gin to her tonic. ~ Judith McNaught
Tonic quotes by Judith McNaught
Music can lift us out of depression or move us to tears - it is a remedy, a tonic, orange juice for the ear. But for many of my neurological patients, music is even more - it can provide access, even when no medication can, to movement, to speech, to life. For them, music is not a luxury, but a necessity. ~ Oliver Sacks
Tonic quotes by Oliver Sacks
There is tonic in the things that men do not love to hear. Free speech is to a great people what the winds are to oceans ... and where free speech is stopped miasma is bred, and death comes fast. ~ Henry Ward Beecher
Tonic quotes by Henry Ward Beecher
I am home, you soggy-faced, entitled little prick, he barely stopped himself saying. You think it took northern sorcery to make me the way I am now? You think it took a war? Those things were tonic compared to what came before. Desperation and deception were waiting for me at the nursery door, took me by either hand as I walked out into my youth, have been my constant companions since. ~ Richard K. Morgan
Tonic quotes by Richard K. Morgan
Power
Living in the earth-deposits of our history
Today a backhoe divulged out of a crumbling flank of earth
one bottle amber perfect a hundred-year-old
cure for fever or melancholy a tonic
for living on this earth in the winters of this climate.
Today I was reading about Marie Curie:
she must have known she suffered from radiation sickness
her body bombarded for years by the element
she had purified
It seems she denied to the end
the source of the cataracts on her eyes
the cracked and suppurating skin of her finger-ends
till she could no longer hold a test-tube or a pencil
She died a famous woman denying
her wounds
denying
her wounds came from the same source as her power. ~ Adrienne Rich
Tonic quotes by Adrienne Rich
There's an old man sitting next to me, making love to his tonic and gin. ~ Billy Joel
Tonic quotes by Billy Joel
I could take him down, but not quietly," Akos said. "I'd probably get myself arrested."
"Well, we'll call that our backup plan," Isae said. "What about distraction?"
"Yeah, sure." Teka folded her arms. "The man was hired to guard a secure door that leads to Ryzek Noavek's secret underground prison, and his failure to do so will probably result in his execution, but he will definitely abandon his post just because you wave something shiny at him."
"Say 'secret underground prison' a little louder, why don't you?" Isae said.
Teka snapped a reply, but Akos wasn't paying attention. Cisi was tugging his sleeve.
"Let me see your vials," she said. "I have an idea."
Akos kept a few vials with him wherever he went--sleep elixir, calming tonic, and a blend for fortitude among them. He wasn't sure what Cisi needed, but he undid the strap holding the vials against his arm and handed the hard little packet to her. All the glass clinked together as she sorted through it, choosing the sleep elixir. She uncorked it, sniffed it.
"That's strong," she said. Isae and Teka were still bickering. About what, he didn't know, but he wasn't going to get between them unless they started throwing punches. ~ Veronica Roth
Tonic quotes by Veronica Roth
He was taking his time on his way to the arena, which meant there was likely something he was waiting for. He didn't intend to actually fight me, obviously, just as I didn't intend to fight him.
If all was going according to plan, and Yma had slipped the contents of the vial into the calming tonic he drank with his breakfast, the iceflowers were already swimming through his body. The timing would not be exact; that depended on the person. I would have to be ready for the potion to surprise me, or fail entirely.
"You're dawdling," I said, hoping that calling him out would speed him up. "What is it you're waiting for?"
"I am waiting for the right blade," Ryzek said, and he dropped down to the arena floor. Dust rose up in a cloud against his feet. He rolled up his left sleeve, baring his kill marks. He had run out of space on his arm, and started a second row next to the first, near his elbow. He claimed every kill that he ordered as his own, even if he himself had not brought about the death.
Ryzek drew his currentblade slowly, and as he raised his arm, the crowd around us exploded into cheers. Their roar clouded my thoughts. I couldn't breathe.
He didn't look pale and unfocused, like he had actually consumed the poison. He looked, if anything, more focused than ever.
I wanted to run at him with blade extended, like an arrow released from a bow, a transport vessel breaking through the atmosphere. But I didn't. And neither did he. We both stood in t ~ Veronica Roth
Tonic quotes by Veronica Roth
I've never felt scared of flight, ever. It's really weird. I don't know. They stick a gin and tonic in your hands and I just think, "Life is good!" ~ Dallas Campbell
Tonic quotes by Dallas Campbell
If the European grows accustomed not to rule, a generation and a half will be sufficient to bring the old continent, and the whole world along with it, into mortal inertia, intellectual sterility, universal barbarism. It is only the illusion of rule, and the discipline of responsibility which it entails, that can keep Western minds in tension. Science, art, technique, and all the rest live on the tonic atmosphere created by the consciousness of authority. If this is lacking, the European will gradually become degraded. Minds will no longer have the radical faith in themselves which impels them, energetic, daring, tenacious, towards the capture of great new ideas in every order of life. The European will inevitably become a day-to-day man. Incapable of creative, specialized effort, he will always be falling back on yesterday, on custom, on routine. He will turn into a commonplace, conventional, empty creature, like the Greeks of the decadence and those of the Byzantine epoch. ~ Jose Ortega Y Gasset
Tonic quotes by Jose Ortega Y Gasset
The exhilarating ripple of her voice was a wild tonic in the rain. ~ F Scott Fitzgerald
Tonic quotes by F Scott Fitzgerald
Yet it is also a tonic and an antidote to dullness to be with the Serbs. They possess the irresponsible gaiety that we traditionally connect with the Irish, with whom they have often been compared. Other less convenient sides of the Irish character are also typical in the Serbs, such as a cheerful contempt for punctuality in daily life and a ready willingness, arising clearly from politeness and good nature, to make promises that are not always fulfilled. But perhaps the most pronounced of these similarities is to be found in the songs of Serbia and Ireland. With both peoples the historic songs about the past are songs of sorrow, or noble struggles against overwhelming odds, of failure redeemed by unconquerable resolve. There is nothing strange in this combination of laughing gaiety and profound melancholy. It is often only those who are truly capable of the one emotion who also have the faculty for the other. ~ R.G.D. Laffan
Tonic quotes by R.G.D. Laffan
If You Could Only See"

If you could only see the way she loves me
Then maybe you would understand
Why I feel this way about our love
And what I must do
If you could only see how blue her eyes can be when she says
When she says she loves me

Well you got your reasons
And you got your lies
And you got your manipulations
They cut me down to size
Sayin' you love but you don't
You give your love but you won't

If you could only see the way she loves me
Then maybe you would understand
Why I feel this way about our love
And what I must do
If you could only see how blue her eyes can be when she says
When she says she loves me

Seems the road less traveled
Show's happiness unraveled
And you got to take a little dirt
To keep what you love
That's what you gotta do
Sayin' you love but you don't
You give your love but you won't
You're stretching out your arms to something that's just not there
Sayin' you love where you stand
Give your heart when you can

If you could only see the way she loves me
Then maybe you would understand
Why I feel this way about our love
And what I must do
If you could only see how blue her eyes can be when she says
When she says she loves me

Sayin' you love but you don't
You give your love but you won't
Sayin' you love where you stand

Tonic quotes by Tonic
When I arrived at her door, with the weight of the entire world on my shoulders, she drew me into her arms and eased all my stress away. She comforted and spent time with me when she didn't have to. She didn't know me at all, had no idea who I was or what I intended for her, whether passion or pain. But her heart led her forward, that beautiful heart I wanted for myself. So when the moment came to kiss her, as we stood in the water at the beach, I seized it like a desperate man. I was a mad one on the edge of insanity and she was the tonic I needed. ~ Kenya Wright
Tonic quotes by Kenya Wright
Sri Krishnamacharya used to tell me: 'Do the Headstand when you are tired and in need of a tonic; when you are unable to fall asleep; when you are hungry, nervous and unhappy. Do it when in need of relaxation, when the brain is clouded, when you are in low spirits. Do it when your thoughts are distracted and you cannot concentrate properly or meditate.' ~ Indra Devi
Tonic quotes by Indra Devi
Happiness is normally the prime search of every rational human being. One way to derive increasing happiness during the year we have just entered is to strive diligently to promote the happiness of others, to think of them first, yourself second. Happiness is the greatest tonic, the greatest elixir, of all. Worry is among the worst poisons. One sensible New Year resolution: I will do my utmost to have consideration for others, to exercise usefulness, to radiate happiness, to conquer worrying over things I cannot possibly remedy. ~ B.C. Forbes
Tonic quotes by B.C. Forbes
Sunshine is more health-giving than pills and potions: and travel in foreign lands is a mental tonic, which feeds the mind even if it empties the pocket. ~ Alec-Tweedie
Tonic quotes by Alec-Tweedie
All the way out I listen to the car AM radio, bad lyrics of trailer park love, gin and tonic love, strobe light love, lost and found love, lost and found and lost love, lost and lost and lost love - some people were having no luck at all. The DJ sounds quick and smooth and after-shaved, the rest of the world a mess by comparison. ~ Lorrie Moore

My mother will emerge with a towel on her head, Nefertiti fashion, and a good terry-cloth robe, and make herself a tall gin-and-tonic and look like a movie star for an hour. Being around her is like being on safari; there is an elusive something we are after, in difficult conditions, and we will look good in the getting there. ~ Padgett Powell
Tonic quotes by Padgett Powell
We need the tonic of the wilderness, to wade sometimes in the marsh where the bitten and the meadow hen lurk, and hear the booming of the snipe; to smell the whispering sedge where only some wilder and more solitary fowl builds her nest, and the mink crawls with its belly close to the ground. ~ Henry David Thoreau

"Details."
