The power of health and wealth lies in tithing. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Tithe quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Giving is a stream of abundance. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Tithe quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
My elder brothers were all put apprentices to different trades. I was put to the grammar-school at eight years of age, my father intending to devote me, as the tithe of his sons, to the service of the Church. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Tithe quotes by Benjamin Franklin
According to a recent study reported in Relevant magazine, only 10 to 25 percent of the typical American congregation tithes (that is, gives the biblical starting point of 10 percent) to the church, the poor, and Kingdom causes. The same report concluded that if the remaining 75 to 90 percent of American Christians began to tithe regularly, then global hunger, starvation, and death from preventable diseases could be relieved within five years. Additionally, illiteracy could be eliminated, the world's water and sanitation issues could be solved, all overseas mission work could be fully funded, and over $100 billion per year would be left over for additional ministry.[18] ~ Scott Sauls
Tithe quotes by Scott Sauls
The tithe is a wonderful goal but a terrible place to stop. ~ Bill Hybels
Tithe quotes by Bill Hybels
As long as you tithe you cannot be greedy or needy. ~ Mark Victor Hansen
Tithe quotes by Mark Victor Hansen
We do not have much but we give more. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Tithe quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
This is exactly the point Jesus reiterates in Matthew 23:23, where he exhorts the people to keep "the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness," without neglecting the responsibility they have to tithe their mint, dill, and cumin. Clearly, Jesus doesn't want us to keep the little commandments in Scripture and miss the big stuff, but neither does he allow us to overlook the smallest parts so long as we get the big picture right. He expects obedience to the spirit of the law and to the letter. Our Messiah sees himself as an expositor of Scripture, but never a corrector of Scripture. He fulfills it, but never falsifies it. He turns away wrong interpretations of Scripture, but insists there is nothing wrong with Scripture, down to the crossing of t's and dotting of i's. ~ Kevin DeYoung
Tithe quotes by Kevin DeYoung
A mortal had woven it, a man who, having caught sight of the Seelie queen, had spent the remainder of his short life weaving depictions of her. He had died of starvation, raw, red fingers staining the final tapestry. ~ Holly Black
Tithe quotes by Holly Black
Love is an active word. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Tithe quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
But you are not under a system similar to that by which the Jews were obliged to pay tithes to the priests. If there were any such rule laid down in the Gospel, it would destroy the beauty of spontaneous giving and take away all the bloom from the fruit of your liberality! There is no law to tell me what I should give my father on his birthday. There is no rule laid down in any law book to decide what present a husband should give to his wife, nor what token of affection we should bestow upon others whom we love. No, the gift must be a free one, or it has lost all its sweetness. ~ Charles Spurgeon
Tithe quotes by Charles Spurgeon
The tithe simply is not a sufficiently radical concept to embody the carefree unconcern for possessions that marks life in the Kingdom of God ...
It is quite possible to tithe and at the same time oppress the poor and needy ...
The tithe is not necessarily evil' it simply cannot provide a sufficient base for Jesus' call to carefree unconcern over provision ...
Perhaps the tithe can be a beginning way to acknowledge God as the owner of all things, but it is only a beginning and not an ending. ~ Richard J. Foster
Tithe quotes by Richard J. Foster
You get to give. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Tithe quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Behold the superlative liberality of the Lord Jesus, for he hath given us his all. Although a tithe of his possessions would have made a universe of angels rich beyond all thought, yet was he not content until he had given us all that he had. ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Tithe quotes by Charles Haddon Spurgeon
We all have something to give, in different gracious forms. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Tithe quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Magic won't save us. The power it would take to conjure on such a scale, the tithe would destroy us. The only hope ... is hope. You don't need tokens for it- it's in your heart or nowhere. And in your heart, child, it had been stronger than I have ever seen. ~ Laini Taylor
Tithe quotes by Laini Taylor
I never will forget this. I went and threw myself across my daughter's bed, and I cried and I cried and I cried and I cried, because I felt like that I had been so faithful and that there was no financial breakthrough for us. You ever have one of those days where you are tired of hearing everybody else's testimony? But, I made a decision that day, and I think we all have to come to this point in many different areas of our life. And, as I lay across that bed and cried, when I finally got done crying I said this out loud, it was like my declaration, "God, I am going to tithe and give offerings until the day I die whether I ever see anything from it or not!" And, you know what, from that day forward we began to prosper and increase. And, I believe with all of my heart that was a test for me. ~ Joyce Meyer
Tithe quotes by Joyce Meyer
It's something fails us. First we feel. Then we fall. And let her rain now if she likes. Gently or strongly as she likes. Anyway let her rain for my time is come. I done me best when I was let. Thinking always if I go all goes. A hundred cares, a tithe of troubles and is there one who understands me? One in a thousand of years of the nights? ~ James Joyce
Tithe quotes by James Joyce
Often we try to offer God partial obedience. We want to pick and choose the commands we obey. We make a list of the commands we like and obey those while ignoring the ones we think are unreasonable, difficult, expensive, or unpopular. I'll attend church but I won't tithe. I'll read my Bible but won't forgive the person who hurt me. Yet partial obedience is disobedience. ~ Rick Warren
Tithe quotes by Rick Warren
Tithe in kind where your spirit is fed. ~ Oprah Winfrey
Tithe quotes by Oprah Winfrey
I never would have been able to tithe the first million dollars I ever made if I had not tithed my first salary, which was $1.50 per week. ~ John D. Rockefeller
Tithe quotes by John D. Rockefeller
Jesus flips the tables.

A poor man spends day and night praying in front of a golden statue. He begs that his family be freed of poverty. The priest says to him to pay his tithe on the way out.

Jesus flips the tables.

A poor man goes to a place he calls home. He invites his neighbours, friends and family. He opens the good book and prays direct to God.

Jesus flips the tables. ~ David Holdsworth
Tithe quotes by David Holdsworth
President J. Reuben Clark, Jr., a modern prophet, said over and over again that the Lord would never let one of his Saints who had been faithful in the payment of tithes and offerings go without the necessities of life" (Marion G. Romney, "The Blessings of an Honest Tithe," New Era, Jan.-Feb. 1982, 45). Members who faithfully pay tithing are promised spiritual blessings as well. "I think it is not well known in the Church that payment of tithing has very little to do with money. Tithing has to do with faith ~ A. Theodore Tuttle
Tithe quotes by A. Theodore Tuttle
The pulpit only "teaches" to be honest; the market-place "trains" to overreaching and fraud; and teaching has not a tithe of the efficiency of training. Christ never wrote a tract, but He went about doing good. ~ Horace Mann
Tithe quotes by Horace Mann
God's answer to your guilty conscience is the death of his Son. Your answer to a guilty conscience is usually something you do, like confessing harder, praying more, reading your Bible, paying more than your tithe in the offering and so on. These actions are what the writer to the Hebrews calls "dead works," the very things your conscience needs to be cleansed from and the very things that eventually get you wrapped up in the black shadow of your own guilt. ~ John White
Tithe quotes by John White
Today, from the bridge, the East River is sparkling. The money is swirling around the tall buildings like tides or like tithes, And I wonder, does anyone swim in this river, I wonder, does anyone pray? ~ Katy Lederer
Tithe quotes by Katy Lederer
Good spirit, good deeds. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Tithe quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
No wonder so many sermons are devoted exclusively to "spiritual" subjects. If one is living by the tithes of history's most destructive economy, then the disembodiment of the soul becomes the chief of worldly conveniences. ~ Wendell Berry
Tithe quotes by Wendell Berry
The tithe payer helps the Lord build temples, where families can be sealed forever. The tithe payer helps Him send the gospel to people everywhere. The tithe payer helps Him relieve hunger and suffering in His own way through His servants. ~ Henry B. Eyring
Tithe quotes by Henry B. Eyring
Something is being released in the spiritual realm, when it does go to the phone. When the mantle gets passed to you go to the phone and sow a $70 tithe to the $700 pledge. ~ Mark Chironna
Tithe quotes by Mark Chironna
Yet he may have committed what might be considered far greater sins that yet would not inflict on any one a tithe of the humiliation which his teasing inflicted on a child's sensitive mind. ~ L.M. Montgomery
Tithe quotes by L.M. Montgomery
I want nothing new, if I can have but a tithe of the old secured to me. I will spurn all wealth beside. Think of the consummate folly of attempting to go away from here! When the constant endeavor should be to get nearer and nearer here! ~ Henry David Thoreau
Tithe quotes by Henry David Thoreau
[...]They offended Hood,' he stated flatly.
'And How they did that?' Silk enquired.
'They demanded a tithe upon the temple. I demonstrated Hood's tithe.'
'And who are you to judge?' Smokey demanded. The lad's Dark, almost blue-black eyes edged aside to Smokey. 'I am Hood's Sword. ~ Ian C. Esslemont
Tithe quotes by Ian C. Esslemont
Every good citizen should be willing to devote a brief time during some one day in the year, when necessary, to the making up of a listing of his income for taxes to contribute to his Government, not the scriptural tithe, but a small percentage of his net profits. ~ Cordell Hull
Tithe quotes by Cordell Hull
Since we have received everything from the Gods, and it is right to pay the giver some tithe of his gifts, we pay such a tithe of possessions in votive offering, of bodies in gifts of (hair and) adornment, and of life in sacrifices. ~ Sallust
Tithe quotes by Sallust
Bishop, this is a full tithe and a little bit more, because that's the way we have been blessed. ~ Henry D. Moyle
Tithe quotes by Henry D. Moyle
I know we can each do something, however small that act may seem to be. We can pay an honest tithe and give our fast and free-will offerings, according to our circumstances. And we can watch for other ways to help. ~ Jeffrey R. Holland
Tithe quotes by Jeffrey R. Holland
Holy fu-" he starts then catches himself."Yes,this tithe will be most pleasing to her Goodness." Me and Magnus exchange amused glances. ~ Mari Mancusi
Tithe quotes by Mari Mancusi
Hear me Niah, hear me Mother. This flesh your feast. This blood your wine. This life, this end, my gift to you. Hold him close. ~ Jay Kristoff
Tithe quotes by Jay Kristoff
The harvest is for the appointed time ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Tithe quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
I do not believe one can settle how much we ought to give. I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than we can spare. In other words, if our expenditure on comforts, luxuries, amusements, etc, is up to the standard common among those with the same income as our own, we are probably giving away too little. If our charities do not at all pinch or hamper us, I should say they are too small. There ought to be things we should like to do and cannot do because our charitable expenditure excludes them. ~ C.S. Lewis
Tithe quotes by C.S. Lewis
What percentage should you give? I tell people to start with 10 percent because the Bible writers have a lot to say about the tithe, which means, "tenth." For some people, that's extremely uncomfortable. But so is a colonoscopy, and those save countless lives. ~ Andy Stanley
Tithe quotes by Andy Stanley
God's timing determines the fruit of the harvest. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Tithe quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
On Earth, Discord! A gloomy Heaven above, opening her jealous gates to the nineteen thousandth part of the tithe of mankind! And below, an inescapable & inexorable Hell, expanding its leviathan jaws for the vast residue of Mortals! ~ Robert Burns
Tithe quotes by Robert Burns
that 'the rich should be trusted to tithe, or should we have a society with a basic taxing-and-spending structure that ensures a modicum of economic security for all people? ~ Linsey McGoey
Tithe quotes by Linsey McGoey
You don't need much to give. Give what you have. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Tithe quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Six years in chains for one moment of principle. That's the tithe I paid. But you know what I learned in all the years between then and this, little Crow?"

"...No."

Sid fixed Mia in his ice-blue stare.

"There's no softer pillow than a clear conscience."

Mia sat in the dark, trembling head to foot. Tears spilling down her cheek. And without another word, Sidonius lay down in the straw, rolled over onto his side, and closed his eyes.

"Sleep well, Mia. ~ Jay Kristoff
Tithe quotes by Jay Kristoff
For many wealthy people, giving a tenth is a way of robbing God. Their tithe becomes a tip. ~ Haddon W. Robinson
Tithe quotes by Haddon W. Robinson
Generosity is the heart of humanity. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Tithe quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Oh, don't get me started! I love fantasy, I read it for pleasure, even after all these years. Pat McKillip, Ursula Le Guin and John Crowley are probably my favorite writers in the field, in addition to all the writers in the Endicott Studio group - but there are many others I also admire. In children's fantasy, I'm particularly keen on Philip Pullman, Donna Jo Napoli, David Almond and Jane Yolen - though my favorite novels recently were Midori Snyder's Hannah's Garden, Holly Black's Tithe, and Neil Gaiman's Coraline.

I read a lot of mainstream fiction as well - I particularly love Alice Hoffman, A.S. Byatt, Sara Maitland, Sarah Waters, Sebastian Faulks, and Elizabeth Knox. There's also a great deal of magical fiction by Native American authors being published these days - Louise Erdrich's Antelope Wife, Alfredo Vea Jr.'s Maravilla, Linda Hogan's Power, and Susan Power's Grass Dancer are a few recent favorites.

I'm a big fan of Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Charles Dickens, and Anthony Trollope - I re-read Jane Austen's novels in particular every year.Other fantasists say they read Tolkien every year, but for me it's Austen. I adore biographies, particularly biographies of artists and writers (and particularly those written by Michael Holroyd). And I love books that explore the philosophical side of art, such as Lewis Hyde's The Gift, Carolyn Heilbrun's Writing a Woman's Life, or David Abram's Spell of the Sensuous.

(from a 2002 interview) ~ Terri Windling
Tithe quotes by Terri Windling
Make sure your tithe are being used for something that is visible ~ Sunday Adelaja
Tithe quotes by Sunday Adelaja
The power of giving is beyond measure. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Tithe quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
paused for a moment, and a wild feeling of pity came over him. After all, what right had he to pry into the life of Dorian Gray? If he had done a tithe of what was rumoured about him, how much he must have suffered! Then he straightened himself up, and walked over to the fire-place, and stood there, ~ Oscar Wilde
Tithe quotes by Oscar Wilde
She understood now why pain was the tithe for magic: It was more powerful than joy. Than anything.
Than hope? ~ Laini Taylor
Tithe quotes by Laini Taylor
The more you give, the more you have much to keep giving. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Tithe quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
As a member of the Mormon church, Romney is instructed to tithe 10 percent of his income. That's in keeping with most charitable giving: Religious institutions get about one-third of all contributions, according to 'The American' magazine. ~ John Podhoretz
Tithe quotes by John Podhoretz
Those who have never entered upon scientific pursuits know not a tithe of the poetry by which they are surrounded. ~ Herbert Spencer
Tithe quotes by Herbert Spencer
Sundays normally were hell. Or just the church pat of it, actually. It wasn't that I was afraid of God, or had anything against Him. It was just that having to be there for two to four hours made me cross, hateful, and blasphemous. Plus it seemed to me that the regulars, the good God-fearing folks, who didn't have diddly-squat, liked to pretend they had a lot to flaunt -- whereas the ones that had a whole lot showed up on holidays and funerals, in fancy cars and dressed to kill, all made possible by money they didn't tithe away every week. That's where Sunday-based faith got you -- broke and with a sore butt! ~ Shawn Stewart Ruff
Tithe quotes by Shawn Stewart Ruff
As individuals die every moment, how insensitive and fabricated a love it is to set aside a day from selfish routine in prideful, patriotic commemoration of tragedy. Just as God is provoked by those who tithe simply because they feel that they must tithe, I am provoked by those who commemorate simply because they feel that they must commemorate. ~ Criss Jami
Tithe quotes by Criss Jami
