The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Malese Jow
After I read 'The Hunger Games,' I went out and got 'Catching Fire' the next day. ~ Jodelle Ferland
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Jodelle Ferland
This place is packed with beautiful hipsters. While the Coney Island bombast radiated sincerity, everything here seems more ironic. When someone in the crowd ironically chants, 'USA!' someone else ironically chants back, 'Mother Russia. ~ Jon Ronson
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Jon Ronson
The Hunger Games gets people invested in a contest. People are rooting for their favorites, rooting for their survival. And suddenly, unwittingly, the people being oppressed are actually engaged in this form of entertainment...The way you get control of people is to make them participate, not just subjugate them." -Gary Ross, pg. 154 ~ Kate Egan
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Kate Egan
Now there are three guys who directed "Twilight" films that had a gross of a gazillion dollars. All those "Hunger Games" guys, the "Divergent" guys. All those people. When they are looking for the next big director, they see they have a track record. So there's 20 people that spun off of "Twilight" that have more qualifications than any woman. ~ Catherine Hardwicke
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Catherine Hardwicke
What You Should Know to be a Poet"

all you can know about animals as persons.
the names of trees and flowers and weeds.
the names of stars and the movements of planets
and the moon.
your own six senses, with a watchful elegant mind.
at least one kind of traditional magic:
divination, astrology, the book of changes, the tarot;

dreams.
the illusory demons and the illusory shining gods.
kiss the ass of the devil and eat sh*t;
fuck his horny barbed cock,
fuck the hag,
and all the celestial angels
and maidens perfum'd and golden-

& then love the human: wives husbands and friends
children's games, comic books, bubble-gum,
the weirdness of television and advertising.

work long, dry hours of dull work swallowed and accepted
and lived with and finally lovd. exhaustion,
hunger, rest.

silent solitary illumination, entasy

The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Gary Snyder
It's hard to hate my prep team. They're such total idiots. - Katniss. ~ Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Suzanne Collins
I have some idea that if I pick on [boy band] One Direction, I'll get a ton of hate mail, because I know that when you're 15, you love a band like you will kill people. But I don't quite realize that that's true about people - adults - who read The Hunger Games. ~ Joel Stein
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Joel Stein
Clove!" Cato's voice is much nearer now. I can tell by the pain in it that he sees her on the ground.
"You better run now, Fire Girl," says Thresh.
I don't need to be told twice. I flip over and my feet dig into the hard-packed earth as I run away from Thresh and Clove and the sound of Cato's voice. Only when I reach the woods do I turn back for an instant. Thresh and both large backpacks are vanishing over the edge of the plain into the area I've never seen. Cato kneels beside Clove, spear in hand, begging her to stay with him. In a moment, he will realize it's futile, she can't be saved. ~ Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Suzanne Collins
It's strange to be so physically close to someone who's so distant ~ Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Suzanne Collins
Come to finish me off, Sweetheart? ~ Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Suzanne Collins
I think that the thing that is really strong with 'The Hunger Games' is just that it comes from a very strong idea. ~ Francis Lawrence
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Francis Lawrence
Being able to just stick to our instincts and honor the [Hunger Games] books and find a way to stay the course of trying to make the best possible decisions that you would make creatively on any movie, without having your head turned too much by all of the interest, has been a great challenge. It's the best challenge you could ask for, but that was a big challenge. ~ Nina Jacobson
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Nina Jacobson
On the Hunger Games Fan Race fail and the portrayal of POC in fantasy literature:
It is as if the POC in the text are walking around with a great big red sign over them for some editors and it reads I AM NOT A REAL CHARACTER. I AM A PROBLEM YOU MUST DEAL WITH. The white characters are permitted to saunter about with their physical descriptions hanging out all over the place, but best not make mention of dark skin or woolly/curly hair or dark eyes (Unless, of course, that character is white. None of my white-skinned dark-eyed characters had any problem being described as such. And I'm pretty sure that Sól's curly hair never gave anyone a single pause for thought.) As I said, I understand the desire not to define a POC simply by their physical attributes, and I understand cutting physical descriptions if no other character is described physically – but pussyfooting about in this manner with POC is doing nothing but white wash the characters themselves. It's already much too hard to get readers to latch onto the fact that some characters may not be caucasian, why must we dance about their physical description as if it were some kind of shameful dirty little secret. You know what it reminds me of? It reminds me of the way homosexuality used to only ever be hinted at in texts. It was up to the reader to 'read between the lines' or 'its there if you look for it' and all that total bullshit which used to be the norm. ~ Celine Kiernan
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Celine Kiernan
'The Hunger Games' takes place in Panem, a country which is part of America. It's post-apocalyptic. There's been a global war. The Panem country is what remains of this hugely destructive war. ~ Liam Hemsworth
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Liam Hemsworth
She'd never physically hit anyone in her life, until now, because her survival required it. For a brief moment, she felt like she was in The Hunger Games. ~ Ann Greyson
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Ann Greyson
I think 'The Hunger Games' has a really powerful message about survival, and sacrificing for the ones you love. It's almost like a warning for us to not lose touch of our humanity. We live in a world in which we watch other's misfortunes for entertainment. ~ Amandla Stenberg
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Amandla Stenberg
Within months after reading the novel 'The Hunger Games,' I went from telling my mom that I could see myself as this character to actually getting the role. My mother reminds me that if I could manifest such an important role just because I wanted it so much, all of my dreams are possible. ~ Amandla Stenberg
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Amandla Stenberg
All the writing elements are the same. You need to tell a good story ... You've got good characters ... People think there's some dramatic difference between writing 'Little Bear' and the 'Hunger Games,' and as a writer, for me, there isn't. ~ Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Suzanne Collins
Peeta, how come I never know when you're having a nightmare?" I say.
"I don't know. I don't think I cry out or thrash around or anything. I just come to, paralyzed with terror," he says.
"You should wake me," I say, thinking about how I can interrupt his sleep two or three times on a bad night. About how long it can take to calm me down.
"It's not necessary. My nightmares are usually about losing you," he says. "I'm okay once I realize you're here. ~ Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Suzanne Collins
Really, the combination of the scabs and the ointment looks hideous. I can't help enjoying his distress.
"Poor Finnick. Is this the first time in your life you haven't looked pretty?" I say.
"It must be. The sensation's completely new. How have you managed it all these years?" he asks.
"Just avoid mirrors. You'll forget about it," I say.
"Not if I keep looking at you," he says. ~ Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Suzanne Collins
Dreams. The face of the redheaded girl intertwines with gory images from earlier Hunger Games, with my mother withdrawn and unreachable, with Prim emaciated and terrified. I bolt up screaming for my father to run as the ~ Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Suzanne Collins
You're not doing the scene exactly the way it is in the book [The Hunger Games], but the intention of the scene is there. ~ Nina Jacobson
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Nina Jacobson
He could have had his choice of any woman in the district. And he chose solitude. Not solitude – that sounds too peaceful. More like solitary confinement. ~ Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Suzanne Collins
If the movie [The Hunger Games] were stylized violence that was pretty and fun and cool, which is great when you go see 300 or The Matrix, it would just be out of sync with the fact that they're kids. ~ Nina Jacobson
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Nina Jacobson
Finnick?" I say, "Maybe some pants?"
He looks down at his legs as if noticing his outfit for the first time. Then he whips off his hospital gown leaving him in just his underwear. "Why? Do you find this"
he strikes a ridiculously provocative pose
"distracting?"
I laugh. Boggs looks embarrassed and Finnick looks more like the guy I met at the Quarter Quell ~ Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Suzanne Collins
He said, See that little girl? I wanted to marry her mother, but she ran off with a coal miner."
-Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games ~ Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Doree Shafrir
Boredom!!! Shooting!!! Shelling!!! People being killed!!! Despair!!! Hunger!!! Misery!!! Fear!!! That's my life! The life of an innocent eleven-year-old schoolgirl!! A schoolgirl without a school, without the fun and excitement of school. A child without games, without friends, without the sun, without birds, without nature, without fruit, without chocolate or sweets, with just a little powdered milk. In short, a child without a childhood. ~ Zlata Filipovic
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Zlata Filipovic
Divergent taught me that one choice doesn't define you

The Host taught me that you can't be so quick to judge

Hunger Games taught me that the tinest spark can change the world

The Mortal Instruments taught me that friends can help you overcome anything

Percy Jacskon taught me that everyone's a hero

Harry Potter taught me that love conquers all evil. ~ Random

But I don't know what to him about the aftermath of killing a person. About how they never leave you. ~ Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Suzanne Collins
In 'The Hunger Games,' in most people's idea, in terms of rebellion or a civil-war situation, that would meet the criteria for a necessary war. These people are oppressed, their children are being taken off and put in gladiator games. They're impoverished, they're starving, they're brutalized. ~ Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Suzanne Collins
Katniss: I'm coming back into focus when Caesar asks him if he has a girlfriend back home.
Peeta: (Gives an unconvincing shake of head.)
Caesar: Handsome lad like you. There must be some special girl. Come on, what's her name?
Peeta: Well, there is this one girl. I've had a crush on her ever since I can remember. But I'm pretty sure she didn't know I was alive until the reaping.
Caesar: She have another fellow?
Peeta: I don't know, but a lot of boys like her.
Caesar: So, here's what you do. You win, you go home. She can't turn you down, eh?
Peeta: I don't think it's going to work out. Winning ... won't help in my case.
Caesar: Why ever not?
Peeta: Because ... because ... she came here with me.
Caesar: Oh, that is a piece of bad luck.
Peeta: It's not good.
Caesar: Well, I don't think any of us can blame you. It'd be hard not to fall for that young lady. She didn't know?
Peeta: Not until now. ~ Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games Mockingjay quotes by Suzanne Collins
Whedon: Studios will tell you: A woman cannot headline an action movie. After The Hunger Games they might stop telling you that a little bit. Whatever you think of the movie, it's done a great service. And after The Avengers, I think it's changing.
Johansson: A lot of the female superhero movies just suck really badly.
Whedon: The suck factor is not small.
Johansson: They are really not well made, and already you're fighting against the tide. There are a couple [female-driven action movies] that have worked-ish, don't you think?
Hemsworth: Angelina Jolie tends to do it pretty well, as the dominant female.
Jackson: They got to get The Pro to the screen!
Whedon: [Groaning] See, that is the problem. Sam is the problem!
Jackson: I love that book!
Whedon: [Reluctantly] The Pro is hilarious.
Jackson: The Pro's hilarious. [To the group] You ever see or hear of it?
Johansson: No, what's The Pro?
Jackson: It's [a comic book] about a hooker who gets super powers!
Johansson: [Pauses] That is exactly the problem right there.
Whedon: That's why I wasn't going to bring up The Pro!
