We go hard in the ink! ~ K'wan
Terry L Wroten quotes by K'wan
Wittgenstein came to believe that a great many philosophical puzzles arise out of people misusing language in this way. Take, for example, the statement 'I have a pain', which is grammatically akin to 'I have a hat'. This similarity might mislead us into thinking that pains, or 'experiences' in general, are things we have in the same way that we have hats. But it would be strange to say 'Here, take my pain'. And though it would make sense to say 'Is this your hat or mine?', it would sound odd to ask 'Is this your pain or mine?' Perhaps there are several people in a room and a pain floating around in it; and as each person in turn doubles up in agony, we exclaim: 'Ah, now he's having it!'

This sounds merely silly; but in fact it has some fairly momentous implications. Wittgenstein is able to disentangle the grammar of 'I have a hat' from 'I have a pain' not only in a way that throws light on the use of personal pronouns like 'I' and 'he', but in ways which undermine the long-standing assumption that my experiences are a kind of private property. In fact, they seem even more like private property than my hat, since I can give away my hat, but not my pain. Wittgenstein shows us how grammar deceives us into thinking this way, and his case has radical, even politically radical, consequences.

The task of the philosopher, Wittgenstein thought, was not so much to resolve these inquiries as to dissolve them – to show that they spring from confusing one kind of 'l ~ Terry Eagleton

When I retired from the NFL, no one knew who I was, and I had to start all over. I ended up doing security in L.A., and I was just on movie sets and watching. ~ Terry Crews
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Crews
Grandma Vera said something I've treasured since: "If you read something often enough, no one can take it away from you." How ~ Terry L. Paulson
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry L. Paulson
The dominant literary mode of the twentieth century has been the fantastic. This may appear a surprising claim, which would not have seemed even remotely
conceivable at the start of the century and which is bound to encounter fierce resistance even now. However, when the time comes to look back at the century, it seems very likely that future literary historians, detached from the squabbles of our present, will see as its most representative and distinctive works books like J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, and also George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four and Animal Farm, William Golding's Lord of the Flies and The Inheritors, Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five and Cat's Cradle, Ursula Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossessed, Thomas Pynchon's The Crying of Lot-49 and Gravity's Rainbow. The list could readily be extended, back to the late nineteenth century with H.G. Wells's The Island of Dr Moreau and The War of the Worlds, and up to writers currently active like Stephen R. Donaldson and George R.R. Martin. It could take in authors as different, not to say opposed, as Kingsley and Martin Amis, Anthony Burgess, Stephen King, Terry Pratchett, Don DeLillo, and Julian Barnes. By the end of the century, even authors deeply committed to the realist novel have often found themselves unable to resist the gravitational pull of the fantastic as a literary mode.

This is not the same, one should note, as fantasy as a literary genre – of the authors l ~ Tom Shippey
Terry L Wroten quotes by Tom Shippey
Knowledge equals power ...
The string was important. After a while the Librarian stopped. He concentrated all his powers of librarianship.
Power equals energy ...
People were stupid, sometimes. They thought the Library was a dangerous place because of all the magical books, which was true enough, but what made it really one of the most dangerous places there could ever be was the simple fact that it was a library.
Energy equals matter ...
He swung into an avenue of shelving that was apparently a few feet long and walked along it briskly for half an hour.
Matter equals mass.
And mass distorts space. It distorts it into polyfractal L-space.
So, while the Dewey system has its fine points, when you're setting out to look something up in the multidimensional folds of L-space what you really need is a ball of string. ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
And what this ECW is doing is educating you people once again that there IS wrestling, spelt W-R-E-S-T-L-I-N-G, out there. ~ Terry Funk
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Funk
I should have told you long ago how much I love you, but those fleeting moments of opportunity passed all too quickly. Before I knew it, you had gone to your eternity. Nevertheless, I want to tell you now that I love you . . . still! ~ Terry L. Mills
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry L. Mills
He stared at his feet. "I'm still very ignorant," he said, "but at least I'm ignorant about really important things. ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
A man walked across the moors from Razorback to Lancre town without seeing a single marshlight, head-less dog, strolling tree, ghostly coach or comet, and had to be taken in by a tavern and given a drink to unsteady his nerves. ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
Goodbye," Mort said, and was surprised to find a lump in his throat. "It's such an unpleasant word, isn't it?" QUITE SO. Death grinned because, as has so often been remarked, he didn't have much option. But possibly he meant it, this time. I PREFER AU REVOIR, he said. ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
The office of Master of Traditions had fallen inevitably on Ponder Stibbons, who tended to get all the jobs that required someone who thought that things should happen on time and that numbers should add up. ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
I have a living will and I have friends, and I have money and I have hope. ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
Traditional project management focuses on task-level details and loses sight of the benefits projects aim to deliver. ~ Terry Schmidt
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Schmidt
You are aware, are you, that painting a few stars on a perfectly ordinary broomstick doesn't mean it will get airborne? ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
The babies looked similar, both being small, blotchy, and looking sort of, though not really, like Winston Churchill. ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
After a while, another voice said: One, two, three, four- And the universe came into being. It was wrong to call it a big bang. That would just be noise, and all that noise could create is more noise and a cosmos full of random particles. Matter exploded into being, apparently as chaos, but in fact as a chord. The ultimate power chord. ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
Something wonderful, if you look the long view, was about to happen. If you took the short or medium view, something horrible was about to happen. ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
Writers do the self-censoring before they even get to the studio executive, because they know the film will not run that gauntlet. They, because they want to get their films made, they censor it. ~ Terry Gilliam
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Gilliam
Moist realized that there had to be an explanation for this, but the only one he could think of now was: It's strange. ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
I don't really care about being accepted now. I wish I had been like that earlier. ~ Terry Bradshaw
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Bradshaw
Nanny Ogg could see the future in the froth on a beer mug. It invariably showed that she was going to enjoy a refreshing drink which she almost certainly was not going to pay for. ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
The night was as black as the inside of a cat. ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
He knew from experience that true and obvious ideas, such as the ineffable wisdom and judgment of the Great God Om, seemed so obscure to many people that you actually had to kill them before they saw the error of their ways ... ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
(Godzillabytes: Nelson had an irrational dislike of 'petabytes', the recognized term for a particular, and particularly large, wodge of data. Anything that sounded like a kitten's gentle nip just didn't have the moxie to do the job asked of it. 'Godzillabytes', on the other hand, shouted to the world that it was dealing with something very, very big . . . and possibly dangerous.) Nelson ~ Terry Pratchett

Gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide ~ Terry Pratchett
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Pratchett
Dad mistook - for some reason unbeknownst to me - he mistook his family for a platoon of Marines. I mean, he - the exact same thing he brought to the disciplining of a squadron, a battalion, a platoon, he brought to the disciplining of his children. He ran the house - he had Saturday morning inspections for us, he had white-glove inspections for us as kids. ~ Terry Gross
Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Gross
Much of publishing (and any business) is a matter of making the right connection with the right person at the right time at the right place. You can't make that connection working alone in your office at your computer or curled up with your legal pad writing your story. ~ W. Terry Whalin
Terry L Wroten quotes by W. Terry Whalin

Terry L Wroten quotes by Terry Brooks
I'm trying to use people like Meredith Monk and Philip Glass and Terry Riley as the backing tracks for new pop songs. It's really hard trying to use the format and write a pop song on top of avant-garde music, so we'll see. It could be cool, or it could totally flop. ~ Autre Ne Veut
Terry L Wroten quotes by Autre Ne Veut
Go ahead and try. I'll attempt to loosen up.
Her muscles tightened when I took her hand in mine.
"Do you know any self-hypnosis?"
"I guess I'm tensing too much." She took several deep calming breaths then tensed her muscles and relaxed them, repeating the steps several times. The pulse in her wrist slowed to normal.
I nodded, grateful that Marissa was such a treasure despite my initial concern she might be more like the teen witch that had turned me into a frog. ~ Terry Spear
