I think of myself in the oral tradition-as a troubadour, a village tale-teller,
the man in the shadows of the campfire. That's the way I'd like to be remembered-
as a storyteller. A good storyteller. ~ Louis L'Amour
Teller quotes by Louis L'Amour
To say a scientist is not at all responsible is wrong. But to say that someone who invents a piece of knowledge or technology is responsible for all future uses is ridiculous. It doesn't have to be that binary. ~ Astro Teller
Teller quotes by Astro Teller
Nothing fools you better than the lie you tell yourself. ~ Teller
Teller quotes by Teller
I've always been into having stories told to me. I was a voracious reader, my father was also a teller of tales; and the kind of Baron Munchausen proxy of a tall tale was much more interesting than a true tale. ~ Damon Lindelof
Teller quotes by Damon Lindelof
I grew up in a very small town in Florida, like, 7,000 people. ~ Miles Teller
Teller quotes by Miles Teller
I suspect, for example, that the dishonor that now shrouds Richard Nixon results not from the fact that he lied but that on television he looked like a liar. Which, if true, should bring no comfort to anyone, not even veteran Nixon-haters. For the alternative possibilities are that one may look like a liar but be telling the truth; or even worse, look like a truth-teller but in fact be lying. As ~ Neil Postman
Teller quotes by Neil Postman
If anyone wants a hole in the ground, nuclear explosives can make big holes ~ Edward Teller
Teller quotes by Edward Teller
Teller contended, not implausibly, that hydrogen bombs keep the peace, or at least prevent thermonuclear war, because the consequences of warfare between nuclear powers are now too dangerous. We haven't had a nuclear war yet, have we? But all such arguments assume that the nuclear-armed nations are and always will be, without exception, rational actors, and that bouts of anger and revenge and madness will never overtake their leaders (or military and secret police officers in charge of nuclear weapons). In the century of Hitler and Stalin, this seems ingenuous. ~ Carl Sagan
Teller quotes by Carl Sagan
What spares us is memory," he said. "It's what makes us worth saving. However low we sink, whatever promise we no longer fulfill, we tell our stories. That's why you're so important, Charlie. You're a guardian of our national memory. ~ Frederick Weisel
Teller quotes by Frederick Weisel
Why do we take pleasure in gruesome death, neatly packaged as a puzzle to which we may find a satisfactory solution through clues - or if we are not clever enough, have it revealed by the all-powerful tale-teller at the end of the book? It is something to do with being reduced to, and comforted by, playing by the rules. ~ A.S. Byatt
Teller quotes by A.S. Byatt
Human stories are practically always about one thing, really, aren't they? Death. The inevitability of death ...
... (quoting an obituary) 'There is no such thing as a natural death. Nothing that ever happens to man is natural, since his presence calls the whole world into question. All men must die, but for every man his death is an accident, and even if he knows it he would sense to it an unjustifiable violation.' Well, you may agree with the words or not, but those are the key spring of The Lord Of The Rings ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Teller quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
Amos and I introduced the idea of a conjunction fallacy, which people commit when they judge a conjunction of two events (here, bank teller and feminist) to be more probable than one of the events (bank teller) in a direct comparison. ~ Daniel Kahneman
Teller quotes by Daniel Kahneman
I am Gabriel, the messenger, the teller of astonishing truths. ~ Sonya Hartnett
Teller quotes by Sonya Hartnett
The situation as well as them and had shifted her loyalties to the most likely survivors with the business-like efficiency of a bank teller making change. ~ Anonymous
Teller quotes by Anonymous
Teller stared up at him. "What transforms a man into a monster, Tarkin?"
"Monster? That's a point of view, is it not? I will say this much: This place, this plateau is what made me. ~ James Luceno
Teller quotes by James Luceno
It is the essence of innovation to fail most of the time. ~ Astro Teller
Teller quotes by Astro Teller
Apparently on the screen I look tall, ageless, and damned close to omniscient-delivering jeopardy-laden warnings through gritted teeth. But when people see me on the street, they say 'by God, this kid is 5 foot 5, he's got a broken nose, and looks about as foreboding as a bank teller on a lunch break.' ~ Rod Serling
Teller quotes by Rod Serling
The makers of '21 and Over' have been screening it, and I'm getting a lot of comparisons to a young Vince Vaughn. ~ Miles Teller
Teller quotes by Miles Teller
No, I'm the infamous Edward Teller. ~ Edward Teller
Teller quotes by Edward Teller
Some girls have crazy eyes. You can spot that! ~ Miles Teller
Teller quotes by Miles Teller
This is what I thought: for the most banal even to become an adventure, you must (and this is enough) begin to recount it. This is what fools people: a man is always a teller of tales, he sees everything that happens to him through them; and he tries to live his own life as if he were telling a story.
But you have to choose: live or tell. ~ Jean-Paul Sartre
Teller quotes by Jean-Paul Sartre
He spoke in the hoarse, cadenced tones of a lifelong teller of tales - one of those divine fools born to merge memory and mendacity into dreams as airily gorgeous as cobwebs string with drops of dew. ~ Stephen King
Teller quotes by Stephen King
I think the genre of comics sometimes overtakes the medium, and people assume that they are kind of frivolous. If you have a good, strong story teller, they can be as affecting as any character in literature. Period. ~ Chip Kidd
Teller quotes by Chip Kidd
Anybody who's in favor of gun control is a fucking moron. ~ Jackie Mason
Teller quotes by Jackie Mason
Naked acrobatics are on my resume ~ Miles Teller
Teller quotes by Miles Teller
The assumption that humans could be a reliable back up for the system was a fallacy! ~ Astro Teller
Teller quotes by Astro Teller
We know in our hearts that technology at its best should make us feel even more human than we currently feel. Sometimes it makes us feel less human. ~ Astro Teller
Teller quotes by Astro Teller
The stories we tell ourselves have great power. ~ Danielle Teller
Teller quotes by Danielle Teller
But history is a faithless teller whose cruel recourse to hindsight makes fools of its actors. ~ Kate Morton
Teller quotes by Kate Morton
Usually, but not always, a story is told mostly for the benefit of the teller. The story (...) demonstrates how the teller has lived a life full of adventure, of meaning; that they're comical, self-deprecating, and brave; that they're ultimately a person worth knowing.
It's as though folks need to remind themselves of their own worth, and they do this by telling and retelling their favourite eleven or twelve stories, the anecdotes that fundamentally define who they are. ~ Penny Reid
Teller quotes by Penny Reid
Whatever you wish to pay for a glimpse of your future," the fortune-teller says. Bailey stops to consider this for a moment. It is strange, but fair. ~ Erin Morgenstern
Teller quotes by Erin Morgenstern
We don't take on Google Glass or the self-driving car project or Project Loon unless we think that on a risk-adjusted basis, it's worth Google's money to do it. ~ Astro Teller
Teller quotes by Astro Teller
Lying is a full time occupation, even if you tell just one, because once you tell it, you're stuck with it. If you want to do it right, you have to visualize it, conjure the graphics, tone, and sequence of action, then relate it purposefully in the midst of seemingly spontaneous dialogue. The more actual the lie becomes to the listener, the more actual it becomes to the teller, which is scariest of all. Some people really get to believing their own lies. ~ Hilary Thayer Hamann
Teller quotes by Hilary Thayer Hamann
I think my character rallies people together to go out and drink. ~ Miles Teller
Teller quotes by Miles Teller
The distance between an honest Christian mystic and a fortune-teller is sometimes less than half a whisper. Less than a pot of tea or the space between two book covers. ~ Cherie Priest
Teller quotes by Cherie Priest
I always assumed I'd spend my life happily performing in artsy-fartsy little theaters. ~ Teller
Teller quotes by Teller
Dealing with actors is incredibly complex because they oftentimes are like pieces of clay. They want to be told how you want it done. You have to then decide if you want to be the teller or if you want to give them agency. ~ Rashid Johnson
Teller quotes by Rashid Johnson
I'm excited about what the future holds. I'm not a fortune-teller; I have no idea how it will play out. People say, "What are you going to do?" I don't know. I kind of love that not knowing. ~ Jennifer Aniston
Teller quotes by Jennifer Aniston
Onstage, I find absolutely nothing but exhilaration in not talking. ~ Teller
Teller quotes by Teller
Three apples fell from Heaven: one for the teller of a story, one for the listener, and the third for the one who 'took it to heart. ~ Armenian Folk Tales
Teller quotes by Armenian Folk Tales
O Great Teller of the Future and Inhaler of Volcanic Gas!' said the king. 'Can I get a boy child over here, or what? ~ Rick Riordan
Teller quotes by Rick Riordan
I've played drums since I was 15. My sisters and I all played instruments. I kind of started with piano and then I actually played saxophone with a jazz band in middle school. So, any knowledge I had of jazz music was from playing alto-sax back then. ~ Miles Teller
Teller quotes by Miles Teller
Dirty talk? From nervous, timid Ethan Teller? Hallelujah and praise the Gods of Gay. ~ Rosie Aikman
Teller quotes by Rosie Aikman
I'm a taker in terms of jokes. I love to hear a good joke, but I don't retain jokes. I'm not a good teller of jokes. ~ Steve Carell
Teller quotes by Steve Carell
A few mad exaggerations, alright, within a couple of days: swear to fucking god, they were like throwing grenades and pulling out all kinds of crazy knackery, it was out of control. Whatever. As if the story, if big enough, reflected glory on the teller. ~ China Mieville
Teller quotes by China Mieville
Australian Aborigines say that the big stories - the stories worth telling and retelling, the ones in which you may find the meaning of your life - are forever stalking the right teller, sniffing and tracking like predators hunting their prey in the bush. ~ Robert Moss
Teller quotes by Robert Moss
I always prefer to work in the studio. It isolates people from their environment. They become in a sense ... symbolic of themselves. I often feel that people come to me to be photographed as they would go to a doctor or a fortune teller - to find out how they are. ~ Richard Avedon
Teller quotes by Richard Avedon
THE MIGRANT PEOPLE , scuttling for work, scrabbling to live, looked always for pleasure, dug for pleasure, manufactured pleasure, and they were hungry for amusement. Sometimes amusement lay in speech, and they climbed up their lives with jokes. And it came about in the camps along the roads, on the ditch banks beside the streams, under the sycamores, that the story teller grew into being, so that the people gathered in the low firelight to hear the gifted ones. And they listened while the tales were told, and their participation made the stories great. ~ John Steinbeck
Teller quotes by John Steinbeck
Two paradoxes are better than one they may even suggest a solution. ~ Edward Teller
Teller quotes by Edward Teller
Today's science is tomorrow's technology. ~ Edward Teller
Teller quotes by Edward Teller
When we try to make a car that drives itself, we believe - whether we're right or not - we believe that there would be strong net positive benefit to the world if cars could drive themselves safer than people could. ~ Astro Teller
Teller quotes by Astro Teller
I claim that relativity and the rest of modern physics is not complicated. It can be explained very simply. It is only unusual or, put another way, it is contrary to common sense. ~ Edward Teller
Teller quotes by Edward Teller
Before you leave, the fortune teller reminds you that the future is never set in stone. ~ Erin Morgenstern
Teller quotes by Erin Morgenstern
Today, nothing is unusual about a scientific discovery's being followed soon after by a technical application: The discovery of electrons led to electronics; fission led to nuclear energy. But before the 1880's, science played almost no role in the advances of technology. For example, James Watt developed the first efficient steam engine long before science established the equivalence between mechanical heat and energy. ~ Edward Teller
Teller quotes by Edward Teller
The amount of energy spent laughing at a joke should be directly proportional to the hierarchical status of the joke teller. ~ Scott Adams
Teller quotes by Scott Adams
I don't know if there's an actors' slow-pitch softball league I could join. My agency has a team, but they say it would be a conflict of interest for the people they rep to play because I could hit a pop-up and they'd have to drop it on purpose. ~ Miles Teller
Teller quotes by Miles Teller
A story is already over before we hear it. That is how the teller knows what it means. ~ Joan Silber
Teller quotes by Joan Silber
It is often claimed that knowledge multiplies so rapidly that nobody can follow it. I believe this is incorrect. At least in science it is not true. The main purpose of science is simplicity and as we understand more things, everything is becoming simpler. This, of course, goes contrary to what everyone accepts. ~ Edward Teller
Teller quotes by Edward Teller
Truth never hurt the teller. ~ Robert Browning
Teller quotes by Robert Browning
A hakawati is a teller of tales, myths, and fables. A storyteller, and entertainer. A troubadour of sorts, someone who earns his keep by beguiling an audience with yarns. Like the word "hekayah" story, fable, news, hakawati is derived from the Lebanese word "haki", which means talk or conversation. This suggests that in Lebanese the mere act of talking is storytelling. ~ Rabih Alameddine
Teller quotes by Rabih Alameddine
Every good story-teller nowadays starts with the end, and
then goes on to the beginning, and concludes with the
middle ... ~ Oscar Wilde
Teller quotes by Oscar Wilde
Difference between a lie and a story is that a story utilizes the trappings and appearance of truth for the interest of the listener as well as of the teller. A story has in it neither gain nor loss. But a lie is a device for profit or escape. I ~ John Steinbeck
Teller quotes by John Steinbeck
Failures are cheap if you do them first. Failures are expensive if you do them at the end. ~ Astro Teller
Teller quotes by Astro Teller
If they're together long enough, every couple has one conversation over and over. This was ours. ~ Frederick Weisel
Teller quotes by Frederick Weisel
I was not a band geek, per say. But me and my two older sisters played instruments, so I would come home and my sister Dana would be playing the clarinet or playing the piano, and I would play the saxophone, my other sister would be singing, my mom would be singing. I was not afraid to be musical. That was not something that I thought was uncool. ~ Miles Teller
Teller quotes by Miles Teller
Comedically, unpleasantness is great fun. ~ Teller
Teller quotes by Teller
Every telling of an event is a portrait of the teller and not the event itself. ~ Michael Zapata
Teller quotes by Michael Zapata
In most relationships, somebody cares about the other one more and that's usually why you get out of a relationship because it's not reciprocated. ~ Miles Teller
Teller quotes by Miles Teller
At the end of the street was a large glass box with a female mannequin inside it, dressed as a gypsy fortune teller.
"Now," said Wednesday, "at the start of any quest or enterprise it behooves us to consult the Norns."
He dropped a coin into the slot. With jagged, mechanical motions, the gypsy lifted her arm and lowered it once more. A slip of paper chunked out of the slot.
Wednesday took it, read it, grunted, folded it up and put it in his pocket.
"Aren't you going to show it to me? I'll show you mine," said Shadow.
"A man's fortune is his own affair," said Wednesday, stiffly. "I would not ask to see yours."
Shadow put his own coin into the slot. He took his slip of paper. He read it.
EVERY ENDING IS A NEW BEGINNING.
YOUR LUCKY NUMBER IS NONE.
YOUR LUCKY COLOUR IS DEAD.
Motto:
LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON.
Shadow made a face. He folded the fortune up and put it inside his pocket. ~ Neil Gaiman
Teller quotes by Neil Gaiman
Telling a lie is an act with a sharp focus. It is designed to insert a particular falsehood at a particular point in a set or system of beliefs, in order to have that point occupied by the truth. This requires a degree of craftsmanship, in which the teller of the lie submits to objective constraints imposed by what he takes to be the truth. The liar is inescapably concerned with truth-values. In order to invent a lie at all, he must think he knows what is true. And in order to invent an effective lie, he must design his falsehood under the guidance of that truth.

On the other hand, a person who takes to bullshit his way through has much more freedom. His focus is panoramic rather than particular. He does not limit himself to inserting a certain falsehood at a specific point, and thus he is not constrained by the truths surrounding that point or intersecting it. He is prepared, so far as is required, to fake the context as well. This freedom from the constraints to which the liar must submit does not necessarily mean, of course, that his task is easier than the task of the liar. But the mode of creativity upon which it relies is less analytical and less deliberative than that which is mobilized in lying. It is more expansive and independent, with more spacious opportunities for improvisation, color and imaginative play. This is less a matter of craft than of art. Hence the familiar notion of the 'bullshit artist'. ~ Harry G. Frankfurt
Teller quotes by Harry G. Frankfurt
Imagine what ideas are locked up in the hearts and minds of women who simply lack the tools to express them. ~ Danielle Teller
Teller quotes by Danielle Teller
It's all a waste of time. Everything begins only to end. The moment you were born you began to die. That's how it is with everything.
Pierre Anthon ~ Janne Teller
Teller quotes by Janne Teller
So I think that in the beginning of your career you're just looking to work. Luckily for me, my first movie was 'Rabbit Hole' and I got to work with incredible people, a Pulitzer prize winning writer, John Cameron Mitchell, and all the actors involved. So it's tough, man, because you want to have credibility. ~ Miles Teller
Teller quotes by Miles Teller
People do really stupid things while driving. ~ Astro Teller
Teller quotes by Astro Teller
I got into acting my junior year of high school. We got a new hot drama teacher and I was like 'Alright, I'll try drama.' ~ Miles Teller
Teller quotes by Miles Teller
The door smiled. It was the first time I'd seen it do that. Pierre Anthon left the door ajar like a grinning abyss that would swallow me up into the outside with him if only I let myself go. Smiling at whom? At me, at us. I looked around the class. The uncomfortable silence told me the others had felt it too.
We were supposed to amount to something. ~ Janne Teller
Teller quotes by Janne Teller
The philosophical spirit is not satisfied to simply accept what it is told, no matter how much prestige the teller seems to have. This is true even if the teller is a god. ~ Brendan Myers
Teller quotes by Brendan Myers
The elevator came to a jerking halt and the doors slid open. A young vault manager was waiting for us. She looked up and then froze in fear, dropping the papers she was holding. I don't remember much else about her, but I'll never forget her scream. It wasn't even particularly memorable. Like most, it started like a high-pitched yelp and ended in hysterical sobbing. The timing was what threw me off. During most robberies, it takes a few seconds before someone lets out a yelp. Sometimes there is even this strange pregnant silence through the whole thing because everyone's too shocked and scared to move. But not this time. As soon as the elevator doors opened up, the woman started screaming.

I grabbed her by the hair and threw her into one of the teller windows. ~ Roger Hobbs
Teller quotes by Roger Hobbs
He who asks fortune-tellers the future unwittingly forfeits an inner intimation of coming events that is a thousand times more exact than anything they may say. ~ Walter Benjamin
Teller quotes by Walter Benjamin
Maybe not insane, just stupid. "Eighteen. She moved us when I was still and infant. I thought everyone knew all about the nosoul."
He winced. "You shouldn't call yourself a nosoul. New doesn't mean you don't have a soul. The Soul Teller would have know the day you were born. ~ Jodi Meadows
Teller quotes by Jodi Meadows
Neuroscientists are novices at deception. ~ Teller
Teller quotes by Teller
We've long felt that the only value of stock forecasters is to make fortune tellers look good. Even now, Charlie and I continue to believe that short-term market forecasts are poison and should be kept locked up in a safe place, away from children and also from grown-ups who behave in the market like children. ~ Warren Buffett
Teller quotes by Warren Buffett
Truth never hurts the teller. ~ Robert Browning
Teller quotes by Robert Browning
I wear makeup and I don dramatic attire because I like control. I'm not interested in controlling others but I'm invested in strict self-governance. This is why I don't do many face-to-face interviews. I don't like being caught off-guard. It all goes back to that attempt to create order amidst disorder. One of the most frightening things about losing your mind is that you feel like your body, your brain, every part of your essence is being invaded. There is such a palpable helplessness to that narrative and I hate the sense of victimhood that it implies. Certainly, this is how I felt during my moments of psychological disquiet. I felt like my personhood was under attack. Performativity is important to me because I'm the teller of my own stories. I have been performing these multiple roles for so long that they have bled into my identity. I have become the man that I always wanted to be. ~ Diriye Osman
Teller quotes by Diriye Osman
So," Marasi said, "you traded a dead man's scarf for another dead man's gun. But ... the gun itself belonged to someone dead, so by the same logic - "
"Don't try," Waxillium said. "Logic doesn't work on Wayne."
"I bought a ward against it off a traveling fortune-teller," Wayne explained. "It lets me add two 'n' two and get a pickle. ~ Brandon Sanderson
Teller quotes by Brandon Sanderson
My foray into the world of adults had taught me that very few people are willing to tell you the truth. It is something reserved only for the people who loved you the most unconditionally, the ones who were willing to absorb the denial and resentment that often accompanied it. It is a thankless job, that of the truth-teller. ~ Tina L. Hook
Teller quotes by Tina L. Hook
Umm ... So I just realized Ive been peeling bananas wrong my entire life. Thank you animal planet. ~ Miles Teller
Teller quotes by Miles Teller
I personally have a philosophy around authenticity and vulnerability. ~ Astro Teller
Teller quotes by Astro Teller
On May 7, a few weeks after the accident at Three-Mile Island, I was in Washington. I was there to refute some of that propaganda that Ralph Nader, Jane Fonda and their kind are spewing to the news media in their attempt to frighten people away from nuclear power. I am 71 years old, and I was working 20 hours a day. The strain was too much. The next day, I suffered a heart attack. You might say that I was the only one whose health was affected by that reactor near Harrisburg. No, that would be wrong. It was not the reactor. It was Jane Fonda. Reactors are not dangerous. ~ Edward Teller
Teller quotes by Edward Teller
We're going to look back and wonder why we had to micro-control our cars. ~ Astro Teller
Teller quotes by Astro Teller
Every photo tells a story but remember this, there was a story teller behind the lens. ~ Belinda Taylor
Teller quotes by Belinda Taylor
I believe that we need good tale-tellers now, as much as we did when the oral tradition was the only way that they were passed on; that the active transmission of stories plays a vital role in the development of the brain. The quality of the stories that surround us as we grow up is vitally important to our well-being, in the same way as the quality of food and our environment. The most beautiful aspect of this shared story-telling - and we have great examples of this in Tales from the Perilous Realm - is that the collaboration and engagement between teller and audience means that they are embarking on a journey together, which can lead to the most unexpected and wondrous of places. ~ Alan Lee
Teller quotes by Alan Lee
I don't believe a mistake-free learning environment exists. ~ Astro Teller
Teller quotes by Astro Teller
Penn & Teller don't know jack about global warming. ~ Penn Jillette
Teller quotes by Penn Jillette
Since the end is never told,
We pay the teller off in gold,
But he cannot be bought or sold. ~ Grateful Dead
Teller quotes by Grateful Dead
Ah! my poor Bahorel, she is a superb girl, very literary, with tiny feet, little hands, she dresses well, and is white and dimpled, with the eyes of a fortune-teller. I am wild over her. ~ Victor Hugo
Teller quotes by Victor Hugo
So here is my story, may it bring
Some smiles and a tear or so,
It happened once upon a time,
Far away, and long ago,
Outside the night wind keens and wails,
Come listen to me, the Teller of Tales! ~ Brian Jacques
Teller quotes by Brian Jacques
Building intelligent machines can teach us about our minds - about who we are - and those lessons will make our world a better place. To win that knowledge, though, our species will have to trade in another piece of its vanity. ~ Astro Teller
Teller quotes by Astro Teller
When I was in high school, there was 'Superbad' and 'The Girl Next Door' and 'Wedding Crashers' and all these great movies. You hope to be a part of something that's smart, funny and in that Todd Phillips-vein. You want to make something like 'Superbad.' That movie was so good and so funny. ~ Miles Teller
Teller quotes by Miles Teller
What man who owns the kingdom's best horse would consent to ride a mule? ~ Danielle Teller
