We drove 22 miles into the country around Farmington. There were meadows and apple orchards. White fences trailed through the rolling fields. Soon the sign started appearing. THE MOST PHOTOGRAPHED BARN IN AMERICA. We counted five signs before we reached the site. There were 40 cars and a tour bus in the makeshift lot. We walked along a cowpath to the slightly elevated spot set aside for viewing and photographing. All the people had cameras; some had tripods, telephoto lenses, filter kits. A man in a booth sold postcards and slides -- pictures of the barn taken from the elevated spot. We stood near a grove of trees and watched the photographers. Murray maintained a prolonged silence, occasionally scrawling some notes in a little book.

"No one sees the barn," he said finally.

A long silence followed.

"Once you've seen the signs about the barn, it becomes impossible to see the barn."

He fell silent once more. People with cameras left the elevated site, replaced by others.

We're not here to capture an image, we're here to maintain one. Every photograph reinforces the aura. Can you feel it, Jack? An accumulation of nameless energies."

There was an extended silence. The man in the booth sold postcards and slides.

"Being here is a kind of spiritual surrender. We see only what the others see. The thousands who were here in the past, those who will come in the future. We've agreed to be part of a collect ~ Don DeLillo
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Don DeLillo
If paparazzi armed with telephoto lenses have long been the scourge of the rich and famous; civilian drones are fast becoming the new menace to the ordinary man on the street. ~ Alex Morritt
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Alex Morritt
There's a lot of people talking about elitism and all of that.Yes, I went to Princeton and Harvard, but the lens through which I see the world is the lens that I grew up with. I am the product of a working class upbringing. ~ Barack Obama
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Barack Obama
It is essential for the photographer to know the effect of his lenses. The lens is his eye, and it makes or ruins his pictures. A feeling for composition is a great asset. I think it is very much a matter of instinct. It can perhaps be developed, but I doubt if it can be learned. To achieve his best work, the young photographer must discover what really excites him visually. He must discover his own world. ~ Bill Brandt
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Bill Brandt
I was shy, but it came out in a big personality. My turning point was when I let my hair go naturally and I got contact lenses. I am really blind, by the way. I have these big eyes that don't work! ~ Tracee Ellis Ross
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Tracee Ellis Ross
Using two-dimensional lenses to perceive the multi-faceted world can limit your ability to observe the world more objectively. ~ Pearl Zhu
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Pearl Zhu
Every person sees the world through lenses of his or her own design - individual goggles that alter focus and perspective as desired. For those who wish the world to be dark and ugly and unapproachable, it is. But for those who wish it to be beautiful, it is a garden playground blooming with bright, happy colors. ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
Do I believe the execution will work out? Les Moonves said yes to Survivor based partly upon my show Eco-Challenge. He liked my way of filming outdoors. It was the first use of helicopters on a documentary with the gyro-stabilized lenses. And a certain beauty of filming, allowing the drops to fall from a leaf into a puddle, allowing a spider to weave a web. Taking the breath to allow that to happen rather than showing scene after scene. ~ Scott Raab
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Scott Raab
I had one particular handbag disaster when I couldn't get into it, and when I finally did, it flew over the red carpet and was caught by 200 lenses. Not a great moment. ~ Erin O'Connor
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Erin O'Connor
I used to be really fat, but now I'm not. I used to have hair, but now I don't. I used to be able to see without corrective lenses, but now I can't. One of these this is exacerbated by the fact that I'm an editor. One of these things is true despite the fact that I'm an editor. One of them has nothing to do with me being an editor. ~ John Joseph Adams
Telephoto Lenses quotes by John Joseph Adams
When we enter the world as a child, they say we are innocent. When we leave the world as an older adult, we have each experienced a mixture of life's sorrow and joys. The years bring diverse events and mindsets, clouding up our vision, so that we no longer see things as they are, but we view now with lenses of many different shapes, sizes and influential colors depending on life's encounters. It is then, with this cleansing of your inner lens, that you figure out once again, who you are, resulting in numerous side trips, to rediscover your true self, possibly experiencing a reawakening. This sensational feeling of inner peace is unimaginable. ~ Wes Adamson
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Wes Adamson
I played football for Leeds United under-18s, but at 17 my eyes started to go and I had to wear glasses. The football had to go - there were no contact lenses in 1957. ~ Geoffrey Boycott
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Geoffrey Boycott
Music is a lens through which to see who we are. Every phrase of every piece of music is trying to tell a story. ~ Charles Hazlewood
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Charles Hazlewood
The only way to avoid costly mistakes per time is to begin to see life out of two lenses at the same time, ~ Bamigboye Olurotimi
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Bamigboye Olurotimi
I'm not a journalist any more. I don't have to stick a microphone up somebody's nostril and I don't have a camera lens behind my shoulder, I think people talk to me in a much franker way. ~ Gerald Seymour
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Gerald Seymour
When you're shooting with long lenses, even if you're shooting a close-up, you feel the air, the distance between the camera and the subject. ~ Emmanuel Lubezki
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Emmanuel Lubezki
Our past is not, as some fear, a series of events carved in stone that we must carry around for the rest of our lives ... but a kaleidoscope of experiences that, when viewed through different lenses, can 'color' (change) how we see our present and future. ~ Bill Crawford
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Bill Crawford
But when you're a kid it's like you're wearing these binoculars strapped to your eyes and you can't see anything except what's in the dead center of the lenses ~ Russell Banks
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Russell Banks
Looking at health through a gender lens is the first step to a more helpful and personalized approach to healing. ~ Jed Diamond
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Jed Diamond
She wears glasses that are not too small. I wish I was a girl like that. I wear contact lenses because glasses make me look like I am wearing glasses. I am not saying this properly. When she wears glasses she looks so quiet, like a grenade with the pin still in. ~ Joey Comeau
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Joey Comeau
If you're asking whether I intentionally mess up my hair, no, I don't. And certain things, like my freckles, they're just there. I don't do anything consciously. I suppose I could get contact lenses. I suppose I could comb my hair more often. ~ Bill Gates
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Bill Gates
With Mom's story, my perception of my parents underwent a series of rapid changes, the way letters on an eye exam do when the doctor flips the lenses - clear, then blurred, sharp, then back to incomprehensible fuzz. ~ Julie Buntin
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Julie Buntin
Give half a dozen men the same camera, lenses and plates, and send them to the same place to do the same thing, and all the results will be alike, or so nearly alike as to reveal the real mechanicalness of photography. Yet, curiously enough, this is just one of the most difficult things a photographer can be set to do, to exactly repeat himself, or another. He may use the identical apparatus, know the subject perfectly, and yet be totally unable to bring away an exact replica. ~ Frederick H. Evans
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Frederick H. Evans
When I started on 'Saturday Night Live,' I had the choice of wearing contact lenses, which I had never worn before, or glasses, in order to be able to read the cue cards. ~ Tina Fey
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Tina Fey
These days, it seems that if you're not already in place, you can't get there from here. ~ Len Wein
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Len Wein
People talk about nightfall, or night falling, or dusk falling, and it's never seemed right to me. Perhaps they once meant befalling. As in night befalls. As in night happens. Perhaps they, whoever they were, thought of a falling sun. That might be it, except that that ought to give us dayfall. Day fell on Rupert the Bear. And we know, if we've ever read a book, that day doesn't fall or rise. It breaks. In books, day breaks, and night falls.
In life, night rises from the ground. The day hangs on for as long as it can, bright and eager, absolutely and positively the last guest to leave the party, while the ground darkens, oozing night around your ankles, swallowing for ever that dropped contact lens, making you miss that low catch in the gully on the last ball of the last over. ~ Hugh Laurie
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Hugh Laurie
My writing is a lens into the possibilities of the American experience. ~ Charles Bartlett Johnson
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Charles Bartlett Johnson
Why did I lose? No reason, though you might like to know that I got tired, my ears started popping, the rubber came off my shoes, I got cramp, and I lost one of my contact lenses. Other than that I was in great shape. ~ Bob Lutz
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Bob Lutz
Everyone is always telling my generation that we aren't going to know how to engage with people. We're all going to end up with computer chips implanted in our brains and screens stuck in our eyes like contact lenses. But no one gives us any solutions, so I decided to find my own. ~ Nina LaCour
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Nina LaCour
Anamorphic is very difficult because the distance from the lens to the person to focus is very long so you need a lot of distance from the camera to the person so that means that you need a lot of space. ~ Jaume Collet-Serra
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Jaume Collet-Serra
We have two boys, and one of our kids is much more interested in history and stories, so if you want him to do some calculations about lenses, you would start talking to him about Galileo ... Then he would be into the lenses, but if you just start talking to him about lenses, he might not stay with you. ~ Megan Smith
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Megan Smith
But it so happens that everything on this planet is, ultimately, irrational; there is not, and cannot be, any reason for the causal connexion of things, if only because our use of the word "reason" already implies the idea of causal connexion. But, even if we avoid this fundamental difficulty, Hume said that causal connexion was not merely unprovable, but unthinkable; and, in shallower waters still, one cannot assign a true reason why water should flow down hill, or sugar taste sweet in the mouth. Attempts to explain these simple matters always progress into a learned lucidity, and on further analysis retire to a remote stronghold where every thing is irrational and unthinkable.

If you cut off a man's head, he dies. Why? Because it kills him. That is really the whole answer. Learned excursions into anatomy and physiology only beg the question; it does not explain why the heart is necessary to life to say that it is a vital organ. Yet that is exactly what is done, the trick that is played on every inquiring mind. Why cannot I see in the dark? Because light is necessary to sight. No confusion of that issue by talk of rods and cones, and optical centres, and foci, and lenses, and vibrations is very different to Edwin Arthwait's treatment of the long-suffering English language.

Knowledge is really confined to experience. The laws of Nature are, as Kant said, the laws of our minds, and, as Huxley said, the generalization of observed facts.

It is, t ~ Aleister Crowley
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Aleister Crowley
It's a great thriller or mystery, but on another level it's a film about the fact that, if you only look at a person through one lens, or only believe what you're told, you can often miss the truth that is staring you in the face. ~ Kevin Spacey
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Kevin Spacey
Sometimes I feel ashamed at my lack of interest in all the new techniques of modern filmmaking, but I prefer to work with as little equipment as possible. If I have a good lens and a steady camera, that's all I need. ~ Sven Nykvist
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Sven Nykvist
Shame works like the zoom lens on a camera. When we are feeling shame, the camera is zoomed in tight and all we see is our flawed selves, alone and struggling.(page 68) ~ Brene Brown
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Brene Brown
It doesn't upset artists to find out that artists used lenses or mirrors or other aids, but it certainly does upset the art historians. ~ Chuck Close
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Chuck Close
Photography is solitary and there are lags between seeing with your eyes and seeing through the lens, and then seeing the image on your computer ... I often see things after the fact. This revelatory quality includes a sense of playfulness, because you're not sure what the consequences are going to be. ~ Christian Marclay
Telephoto Lenses quotes by Christian Marclay
It's hard to do a camera inside of a car. Non-Stop would have been impossible. Usually modern lenses you can focus up to the lens pretty much, but anamorphic you can't. You need like three feet. ~ Jaume Collet-Serra
