If a movie isn't a hit right out of the gate, they drop it. Which means that the whole mainstream Hollywood product has been skewed toward violence and vulgar teen comedy. ~ Roger Ebert
Teen Violence quotes by Roger Ebert
We need to take a harder look at what's really going on. Stop trying to treat the symptoms and treat the cause of the problem. Maybe we should try a little harder to help these kids before they feel so cornered that they turn into monsters. ~ Aaron B. Powell
Teen Violence quotes by Aaron B. Powell
As a teacher of fourth-graders in a public school, where corporal punishement was not allowed, she had years of violence stored up and was, truth be told, sort of enjoying letting it out on Kona, who she felt could have been the poster child for the failure of public education. ~ Christopher Moore
Teen Violence quotes by Christopher Moore
Teachers always say - "we will never know unless they tell us". We tell them, but they ignore us… …I did tell you, I always tell you. ~ Charlena E. Jackson
Teen Violence quotes by Charlena E. Jackson
what is God? "He's truth; He's meaning. He's my purpose and yours. With terrorists wiping people out, dealers hooking kids on meth and ecstasy, violence and cruelty; there's still love, comfort, joy, and hope. That's God. Without him, none of it makes sense. ~ Kristen Heitzmann
Teen Violence quotes by Kristen Heitzmann
Where violence reigns, reason is weak. ~ Nicolas Chamfort
Teen Violence quotes by Nicolas Chamfort
The following quote is from a Ted talk my sister sent to me that blew my mind....
We talk about how many women were raped last year, not about how many MEN raped women...
We talk about how many girls in a school district were harassed last year, not about how many BOYS harassed girls...
We talk about how many teenage girls got pregnant in the state of VA last year, rather than how many men and teenage boys got girls pregnant...
So you can see how the use of this passive voice has a political affect. It shifts the focus off men and boys, and onto girls and women. ~ Karen Kilgariff
Teen Violence quotes by Karen Kilgariff
Mom always taught me not to use the word hate. As if it were profanity. ~ Tedd Arnold
Teen Violence quotes by Tedd Arnold
For someone who claimed to not be brave, Luke was fearless at pinning his heart to his sleeve and making me take notice. But then, despite what he thought, he'd always been the bolder of the two of us. Fighting to be seen as more than his disability, nurturing his own ability to love after his parents abandoned him, coming out as a teen--that first kiss and all of the physical things that followed. I loved his bravery. I was in awe of it. This man, so young and in so many ways naive, had done so much in so little time to teach me how to be strong ~ Peter Styles
Teen Violence quotes by Peter Styles
This is actually something no one knows, but my mom was really the one who created the entire style for 'Teen Witch.' I'm dead serious. She was super involved, and is super creative, so I wore a lot of my actual clothes in the movie. Truly, Louise was my mom's vision. She really created an iconic character. ~ Robyn Lively
Teen Violence quotes by Robyn Lively
You think your children are better than mine? Ha! When yours were out playing with gold, mine were out fighting for survival. You taught your children to roll in money when I taught mine what it means to be strong. ~ S.R. Crawford
Teen Violence quotes by S.R. Crawford
As a tactic, violence is absurd. No one can compete with the Government in violence, and the resort to violence, which will surely fail, will simply frighten and alienate some who can be reached, and will further encourage the ideologists and administrators of forceful repression. ~ Noam Chomsky
Teen Violence quotes by Noam Chomsky
We must overturn so many idols, the idol of self first of all, so that we can be humble, and only from our humility can learn to be redeemers, can learn to work together in the way the world really needs. Liberation that raises a cry against others is no true liberation. Liberation that means revolutions of hate and violence and takes away lives of others or abases the dignity of others cannot be true liberty. True liberty does violence to self and, like Christ, who disregarded that he was sovereign becomes a slave to serve others. ~ Oscar A. Romero
Teen Violence quotes by Oscar A. Romero
I grew up in Los Angeles when the racial tensions between blacks and Mexicans were very high. Gang violence was very prevalent. ~ Miguel
Teen Violence quotes by Miguel
As a teenager in Brooklyn Quentin had often imagined himself engaged in martial heroics, but after this he knew, as a cold immutable fact, that he would do anything necessary, sacrificing whatever or whomever he had to, to avoid risking exposure to physical violence. Shame never came into it. He embraced his new identity as a coward. He would run in the other direction. He would lie down and cry and put his arms over his head or play dead. It didn't matter what he had to do, he would do it and be glad. ~ Lev Grossman
Teen Violence quotes by Lev Grossman
Poverty is the greatest violence. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Teen Violence quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
Maybe, generations ago, young people rebelled out of some clear motive, but now, we know we're rebelling. Between teen movies and sex-ed textbooks we're so ready for our rebellious phase we can't help but feel it's safe, contained. It will turn out all right, despite the risk, snug in the shell of rebellion narrative. Rebellion narrative, does that make sense? It was appropriate to do, so we did it. ~ Daniel Handler
Teen Violence quotes by Daniel Handler
All teenagers have this desire to somehow run away. ~ Joan Chen
Teen Violence quotes by Joan Chen
It isn't about the welfare check. It never was.
It isn't about sexual permissiveness, or personal morality, or failures in parenting, or lack of family planning. All of these are inherent in the disaster, but the purposefulness with which babies make babies in places like West Baltimore goes far beyond accident and chance, circumstance and misunderstanding. It's about more than the sexual drives of adolescents, too, though that might be hard to believe in a country where sex alone is enough of an argument to make anyone do just about anything.
In Baltimore, a city with the highest teen pregnancy rates in the nation, the epidemic is, at root, about human expectation, or more precisely, the absence of expectation. ~ David Simon
Teen Violence quotes by David Simon
In 2011, actor Johnny Depp told the November issue of Vanity Fair that he felt participating in a photoshoot was akin to rape.

"Well, you just feel like you're being raped somehow. Raped . . . It feels like a kind of weird - just weird, man. But whenever you have a photo shoot or something like that, it's like - you just feel dumb. It's just so stupid," he said.

Likening instances of being flustered or uneasy to the often life-shattering experience of rape has become a far too common comparison in modern lexicon.

The phrase "Facebook rape" is perhaps the most widely used, which implies one person has posted on another person's Facebook account - usually something intended to embarrass the person.

But the casual, flippant use of the term "rape" in instances that do not involve sexual violence is highly problematic in that it trivialises one of the most despicable invasions of a human being.

Desensitising the masses to the term "rape" is just another way the conversation surrounding sexual assault is derailed or diluted in society.

Rape is, and should be considered universally, as a serious societal sickness that occurs within the "toxic silence" that surrounds sexual assault as Tara Moss put so elegantly in her recent Q&A appearance.

Further to that, the use of the term can be a trigger for rape survivors in that it may jolt terrifying memories of their own experience.

PANTOMIME, n. A play in which the story is told without violence to the language. The least disagreeable form of dramatic action. ~ Ambrose Bierce
Teen Violence quotes by Ambrose Bierce
I did it for political, moral reasons, thinking that I was making this great sacrifice, but it was absolutely necessary; I was not going to contribute to the violence in the world anymore. ~ Alicia Silverstone
Teen Violence quotes by Alicia Silverstone
The thing that got me through the worst of my teen years was running and the piano. ~ Deborah Reber
Teen Violence quotes by Deborah Reber
With violence, as with so many other concerns, human nature is the problem, but human nature is also the solution. ~ Steven Pinker
Teen Violence quotes by Steven Pinker
If you aren't paranoid before you arrive in this city, give it a few weeks and you will soon notice it creeping in, dripping into your subconscious like a leaky tap. The trick is not to give a flying fuck what anyone thinks about you, and if you are in the right frame of mind this can be an easy trick to perform but if not you'll soon notice that for a city full of people who do a great Stevie Wonder impersonation when it comes to the homeless and beggars and casual violence towards others, wearing the wrong kind of shoes or a cheap suit brings out a sneering, hateful attitude that can have weaker minded individuals locked in their houses for weeks before harassing their doctors for prescriptions of Prozac and Beta blockers just to make it out the front door. ~ Garry Crystal
Teen Violence quotes by Garry Crystal
The depressing majority of comics seem to be about violence of one sort or another, [...] And I just don't enjoy violence. I can see that narratively it is often a powerful spike in a story, but I certainly don't want to dwell on it. I don't want it in my real life, I don't find violence entertaining in and of itself, or exciting, or funny.

But sex is happily part of most people's lives, and crosses the mind most days, I would say, even if it's just watching your partner get out of bed in the morning. [...] Most pornography is pretty awful. I mean, it does the job at the most utilitarian level, but it rarely excites other areas of the mind, or the eye. It's repetitive, bland and often a bit silly. I was interested in trying to do something that has an aesthetic beauty to it if possible, and something that tickles the intellect as well as the more basic areas of the mind. Maybe that's not possible, and as soon as you start to think too much, it stops working as pornography. I don't think so, but I guess it's in the eye and mind of the viewer. ~ Dave McKean
Teen Violence quotes by Dave McKean
Even if, personally, I'm in a place of contentment or solidity, I feel like it's hard not to look out into American culture and see vast inequity, widespread institutionalized violence and racism and transphobia and environmental destruction. It's hard to be in this world and feel a sense of innate satisfaction at all. There's plenty of things to feel unsettled about. ~ Carrie Brownstein
Teen Violence quotes by Carrie Brownstein
Being the reader of a dark fairy tale is much like being the hero of one. Our lives are filled with pain, boredom, and fear. We want to venture into the dark wood, to see the oddities and the beauties it holds, and to test ourselves against them. So we pick up a book of fairy tales. The real ones. THe weird ones. The dark ones. We see oddities and beauties galore. We test our courage and our understanding. Finally, we put the book down and return to our lives. And hopefully, just like the hero of the fairy tale, we return stronger, richer, and wiser. In difficult times - of recession and violence and political bitterness - we long for a dark forest to which we can escape; and from which we can return, better than we were before. ~ Adam Gidwitz
Teen Violence quotes by Adam Gidwitz
Hollywood has glorified adult premarital sex, and that is unhelpful if your goal is to reduce teen pregnancy and out-of-wedlock births. ~ Joe Lieberman
Teen Violence quotes by Joe Lieberman
I lie awake in bed until way past midnight, fervently hoping Ky is going make an appearance at any moment to explain his behavior. But as the clock chimes two, I have no choice but to face facts.
He isn't coming.
And it feels ominous.
Like the winds are changing, and destiny is altering.
His absence is more than telling.
It has a finality to it that scares me half to death. ~ Siobhan Davis
Teen Violence quotes by Siobhan Davis
They're reacting and that's wonderful. It's better than them sitting there doing nothing. I say make them react - do whatever's in your power to move the audience, and if that's where it is, and there where it is with America, sex and violence, then I say project it. ~ Alice Cooper
Teen Violence quotes by Alice Cooper
It's a combination of nature and nurture. Sometimes it's a part of teen rebellion, either to adopt or to refuse to adopt theses prejudices. Sometimes it's personality --- some people, happily, are just not predisposed to hate, no matter what the situation. Some young people are exposed to a forceful personality at a critical juncture who transforms their way of thinking. Education is obviously a factor, as it wealth. But you know what I really think makes the difference? And I'll admit up front I have no way of proving this. But I think in the long run it has to do with the subject's...how to say it?... exposure to ideas. Never once have I encountered a well-read man who was also a hatemonger. There are no Ph.D.s in the KKK. I truly believe that people who expose themselves to the arts -- fine arts, visual arts, poetry, literature --- people who expose themselves to good ideas will not end up adopting bad ones. It's the guys who don't come into contact with new and better thoughts --- who do their work and pay the bills but aren't exposed to new ideas in any way that influences them --- who are most likely to hang on to the old bad ideas they learned as a child. - Ben Kincaid ~ William Bernhardt
Teen Violence quotes by William Bernhardt
Of course, I write crime stories, and I have to describe violence and the aftermath of violence. ~ Jeffery Deaver
Teen Violence quotes by Jeffery Deaver
Permanent good can never be the outcome of untruth and violence ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Teen Violence quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
[Author's Note:] When I was sixteen, two of my cousins were brutally raped by four strangers and thrown off a bridge in St. Louis, Missouri. My brother was beaten and also forced off the bridge. I wrote about that horrible crime in my first book, my memoir, A Rip in Heaven. Because that crime and the subsequent writing of the book were both formative experience in my life, I became a person who is always, automatically, more interested in stories about victims than perpetrators. I'm interested in characters who suffer inconceivable hardship, in people who manage to triumph over extraordinary trauma. Characters like Lydia and Soledad. I'm less interested in the violent, macho stories of gangsters and law enforcement. Or in any case, I think the world has enough stories like those. Some fiction set in the world of the cartels and narcotraficantes is compelling and important - I read much of it during my early research. Those novels provide readers with an understanding of the origins of the some of the violence to our south. But the depiction of that violence can feed into some of the worst stereotypes about Mexico. So I saw an opening for a novel that would press a little more intimately into those stories, to imagine people on the flip side of that prevailing narrative. Regular people like me. How would I manage if I lived in a place that began to collapse around me? If my children were in danger, how far would I go to save them? I wanted to write about women, whose stories a ~ Jeanine Cummins
Teen Violence quotes by Jeanine Cummins
If we paint the phases of a riot, the crowd bustling with uplifted fists and the noisy onslaughts od cavalry are translated upon the canvas in sheaves of lines corresponding with all the conflicting forces, following the general laws of violence of the picture ... These force-lines must encircle and involve the spectator so that he will an a manner be forced to struggle himself with the persons in the picture. ~ Umberto Boccioni
Teen Violence quotes by Umberto Boccioni
Let us not tire of preaching love; it is the force that will overcome the world. Let us not tire of preaching love. Though we see that waves of violence succeed in drowning the fire of Christian love, love must win out; it is the only thing that can. ~ Oscar Romero
Teen Violence quotes by Oscar Romero
We like to think of women as peacemakers, not purveyors of violence. ~ Nina Easton
Teen Violence quotes by Nina Easton
Here we will solve with laws and dollars, problems that too many people around the world still must solve with violence and civil war. ~ Marco Rubio
Teen Violence quotes by Marco Rubio
Women's Aid is a fantastic charity which has my full support. I am proud to call myself a Real Man, a man who will stand up against domestic violence. ~ Neil Fox
Teen Violence quotes by Neil Fox
In a fight between a shifter and a witch, the shifter would often win - but only if they could keep the witch from speaking, usually by severing the throat or tearing out the tongue. If the witch was powerful enough, and quick enough, physical size didn't matter. Catherine had heard of the horrible ways the witches could kill their victims. Cooking them alive from the inside out, restricting oxygen flow through the nasal and oral passages by creating a vacuum, drowning them with vapor pulled from the very air.
It made fights between shifters look almost humane by comparison. ~ Nenia Campbell
