War is never lenient but where it is wanton; where men are compelled to fight in self-defence, they must hate and avenge. This may be bad, but it is human nature; it is the clay as it came from the hands of the Potter. ~ Thomas B. Macaulay
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas B. Macaulay
Even squirrels know enough to store nuts, so that they will have something to eat when food gets scarce. But the welfare state has spawned a whole class of people who spend everything they get when times are good, and look to others to provide for their food and other basic needs when times turn bad. ~ Thomas Sowell
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Sowell
Socialism is socialism. Government run enterprises are just as inept under democratic governments as they are under autocratic governments. ~ Thomas J. DiLorenzo
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas J. DiLorenzo
Our mind can move directly and aggressively on impulse, while our spirit moves gently and calmly on our intuition. ~ Michael Thomas Sunnarborg
Talyn Thomas quotes by Michael Thomas Sunnarborg
The Pacts and Covenants, by which the parts of this Body Politique were at first made, set together, and united, resemble that Fiat, or the Let us make man, pronounced by God in the Creation. ~ Thomas Hobbes
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Hobbes
Charleston is an amazing place. I probably didn't appreciate it enough when I was growing up. ~ Thomas Gibson
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Gibson
Her name just HAD to be Karen,' Sonny says. 'Bet she puts raisins in her potato salad.' I smirk, and we cross our arms over our chests. Wakanda forever. ~ Angie Thomas
Talyn Thomas quotes by Angie Thomas
Graham had stared through the bars for about five seconds when Lecter opened his eyes and said, "That's the same atrocious aftershave you wore in court." "I keep getting it for Christmas. ~ Thomas Harris
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Harris
To reason with goverments, as they have existed for ages, is to argue with brutes. It is only from the nations themselves that reforms can be expected ~ Thomas Paine
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Paine
The smallest thing by the influence of eternity is made infinite and eternal. We pass through a standing continent or region of ages, that are already ebfore us, glorious and perfect while we come to them. Like men in a ship we pass forward, the shores and marks seeming to go backward, though we move and they stand still. We are not with them in our progressive motion, but prevent the swiftness of our course, and are present with them in our understandings. Like the sun we dart our rays before us, and occupy those spaces with light and contemplation which we move towards, but possess not with our bodies. And seeing all things in the light of Divine knowledge, eternally serving God, rejoice unspeakable in that service, and enjoy it all. ~ Thomas Traherne
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Traherne
If the first king of any country was by election, that likewise establishes a precedent for the next; for to say, that the right of all future generations is taken away, by the act of the first electors, in their choice not only of a king, but of a family of kings for ever, hath no parrallel in or out of scripture but the doctrine of original sin, which supposes the free will of all men lost in Adam; and from such comparison, and it will admit of no other, hereditary succession can derive no glory. For as in Adam all sinned, and as in the first electors all men obeyed; as in the one all mankind were subjected to Satan, and in the other to Sovereignty; as our innocence was lost in the first, and our authority in the last; and as both disable us from reassuming some former state and privilege, it unanswerably follows that original sin and hereditary succession are parallels. Dishonorable rank! Inglorious connexion! Yet the most subtile sophist cannot produce a juster simile. ~ Thomas Paine
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Paine
With nations as with individuals our interests soundly calculated will ever be found inseparable from our moral duties. ~ Thomas Jefferson
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Jefferson
Man [is] a rational animal, endowed by nature with rights and with an innate sense of justice. ~ Thomas Jefferson
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Jefferson
The practice of that which is ethically best - what we call goodness or virtue - involves a course of conduct which, in all respects, is opposed to that which leads to success in the cosmic struggle for existence. In place of ruthless self-assertion it demands self-restraint; in place of thrusting aside, or treading down, all competitors, it requires that the individual shall not merely respect, but shall help his fellows ... It repudiates the gladiatorial theory of existence ... Laws and moral precepts are directed to the end of curbing the cosmic process. ~ Thomas Henry Huxley
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Henry Huxley
A battle is a terrible conjugation of the verb to kill: I kill, thou killest, he kills, we kill, they kill, all kill. ~ Thomas Carlyle
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Carlyle
But my point is, homosexual is genetic. 'Gay' is a choice. 'Gay' is the admitting to yourself that you are not only homosexual, but you embrace it. You find joy in it. You're thankful for it! ~ B.G. Thomas
Talyn Thomas quotes by B.G. Thomas
His journey is not a reflection of the moon. It is the moon itself. He is not separate from this quest. It is his dharma, his path, his voice. It is not a bead on a mala, not a veil to remove. It is the cooperation of elements, the marriage of spirit and flesh. It is the shadow of faith, the reflection of being. It is the full metaphor. It is all there is. ~ Thomas Lloyd Qualls
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Lloyd Qualls
Put First Things First! These four words cover an entire philosophy which can be applied with profit by every business leader, by every executive and by every employee. ~ Thomas Watson Jr.
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Watson Jr.
That was how he would go on tormenting her, after his physical departure from her life. A baroque plan, byzantine even, a plan that both pleased and shamed him.
He awaited only the night, this one grotesque, terrible night. ~ Sherry Thomas
Talyn Thomas quotes by Sherry Thomas
Lunches don't get free just because you don't see the prices on the menu. And economists don't get popular by reminding people of that. ~ Thomas Sowell
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Sowell
The provisions we have made [for our government] are such as please ourselves; they answer the substantial purposes of government and of justice, and other purposes than these should not be answered. ~ Thomas Jefferson
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Jefferson
My eyes refuse to let him leave, but he stands still holding my hand, lingering for as long as possible. ~ Thomas Sweeney
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Sweeney
She wondered, wondered, shuffling back through a fat deckful of days which seemed (wouldn't she be first to admit it?) more or less identical, or all pointing the same way subtly like a conjurer's deck, any odd one readily clear to a trained eye. ~ Thomas Pynchon
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Pynchon
myself. We constantly portray and judge people only in false terms, we judge them unjustly and portray them meanly, I said to myself, in every instance, no matter how we portray, no matter how we judge them. Such ~ Thomas Bernhard
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Bernhard
This is where Grey slept. In twenty-four hours, Thomas is going to erase his dreams. ~ Harriet Reuter Hapgood
Talyn Thomas quotes by Harriet Reuter Hapgood
Only the man who has had to face despair is really convinced that he needs mercy. Those who do not want mercy never seek it. It is better to find God on the threshold of despair than to risk our lives in a complacency that has never felt the need of forgiveness. A life that is without problems may literally be more hopeless than one that always verges on despair. ~ Thomas Merton
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Merton
On a spring day in 1988…a Massachusetts man who collected books about local history was rummaging through a bin in a New Hampshire antiques barn when something caught his eye. Beneath texts on fertilizers and farm machines lay a slim, worn pamphlet with tea-colored paper covers, titled Tamerlane and Other Poems, by an unnamed author identified simply as "a Bostonian." He was fairly certain he had found something exceptional, paid the $15 price, and headed home, where Tamerlane would spend only one night. The next day, he contacted Sotheby's, and they confirmed his suspicion that he had just made one of the most exciting book discoveries in years. The pamphlet was a copy of Edgar Allan Poe's first text, written when he was only fourteen years old, a find that fortune-seeking collectors have imagined happening upon probably more than they'd like to admit. The humble-looking, forty-page pamphlet was published in 1827 by Calvin F.S. Thomas, a relatively unknown Boston printer who specialized in apothecary labels, and its original price was about twelve cents. But this copy, looking good for its 161 years, most of which were probably spent languishing in one dusty attic box after another, would soon be auctioned for a staggering $198,000. ~ Allison Hoover Bartlett
Talyn Thomas quotes by Allison Hoover Bartlett
Before I die, I want to help as many people as I can make their dreams become a reality. ~ Eric Thomas
Talyn Thomas quotes by Eric Thomas
Be patient, my soul: thou hath suffered worse than this. ~ Thomas Holcroft
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Holcroft
Thomas Paine was so inspired by the heroism displayed at Fort Mifflin that he published an open letter to William Howe: 'You are fighting for what you can never obtain and we are defending what we never mean to part with. ~ Nathaniel Philbrick
Talyn Thomas quotes by Nathaniel Philbrick
We will never make it under our own stem. Having made this connection, Augustine falls apart. What he describes at this point in the "Confessions" is a full-scale emotional breakdown. ~ Thomas Cahill
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Cahill
JENNET What can you see Out there?
THOMAS Out here? Out here is a sky so gentle Five stars are ventured on it. I can see
The sky's pale belly glowing and growing big, Soon to deliver the moon. And I can see
A glittering smear, the snail-trail of the sun
Where it crawled with its golden shell into the hills. A darkening land sunken into prayer
Lucidly in dewdrops of one syllable,
Nunc dimittis. I see twilight, madam.
JENNET But what can you hear?
THOMAS The howl of human jackals-. ~ Christopher Fry
Talyn Thomas quotes by Christopher Fry
Yes,' he said; 'and not a dishonourable one. What held me back was just that one thing - a sense of morality that perhaps, madam, you did not give me credit for.' The latter words were spoken with a mien and tone of pride. ~ Thomas Hardy
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Hardy
Some people are tempted most strongly at the beginning of their spiritual life, others near the end. Some are troubled all their lives. Still others receive only light temptation. Such things are decided by God, and we can trust his wisdom. ~ Thomas A Kempis
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas A Kempis
It is the age that forms the man, not the man that forms the age. ~ Thomas B. Macaulay
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas B. Macaulay
I am too much of a sceptic to deny the possibility of anything especially as I am now so much occupied with theology but I don't see my way to your conclusion. ~ Thomas Huxley
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Huxley
He could see that he had too many flowers in the room, and must add more to make it come back right again. Too many flowers was too many, but way too many was just right. ~ Thomas Harris
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Harris
Too much truth in the hands of a liar is more dangerous than a world of lies told to the truthful ~ Thomas R. Williams
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas R. Williams
To be successful, you have to have your heart in your business and your business in your heart. ~ Thomas J. Watson
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas J. Watson
The Utopians feel that slaughtering our fellow creatures gradually destroys the sense of compassion, which is the finest sentiment of which our human nature is capable. ~ Thomas More
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas More
It is amazing how many of the intelligentsia call it "greed" to want to keep what you have earned, but not greed to want to take away what somebody else has earned, and let politicians use it to buy votes. ~ Thomas Sowell
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Sowell
I'm as anxious as any viewer would be to see what Temple is going to do next. All I know is that in the second half of the season, he's going to have more sexual tension developing. And it's a great cast - they're all Broadway actors except for me. I aspire to that. ~ Sean Patrick Thomas
Talyn Thomas quotes by Sean Patrick Thomas
War is an instrument entirely inefficient toward redressing wrong; and multiplies, instead of indemnifying losses. ~ Thomas Jefferson
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Jefferson
What can come? my grandson Sam asked, when he was very young, after his mother had warned him not to go into the woods after dark. What can come? This was a brilliant question. Can is scarier than will. What will come limits itself. What can come has no boundaries. ~ Abigail Thomas
Talyn Thomas quotes by Abigail Thomas
Money and beauty are defenses against the sorrows of this world but neither can undo the past. Only time will conquer time. The way forward is the only way back to innocence and to peace. ~ Dean Koontz
Talyn Thomas quotes by Dean Koontz
Millions of people died in the war "to make the world safe for democracy" - a war that led to autocratic dynasties being replaced by totalitarian dictatorships that slaughtered far more of their own people than the dynasties had? ~ Thomas Sowell
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Sowell
It was as if her body had lain dormant, waiting for the right man to come along and awaken her to her erotic potential. ~ Kitty Thomas
Talyn Thomas quotes by Kitty Thomas
The English may not like music, but they absolutely love the noise it makes. ~ Thomas Beecham
Talyn Thomas quotes by Thomas Beecham
Whoso List to Hunt
Whoso list to hunt, I know where is an hind,
But as for me, helas! I may no more.
The vain travail hath worried me so sore,
I am of them that furthest come behind.
Yet may I by no means, my worried mind
Draw from the deer; but as she fleeth afore
Fainting I follow. I leave off therefore,
Since in a net I seek to hold the wind.
Who list her hunt, I put him out of doubt,
As well as I, may spend his time in vain;
And graven in diamonds in letters plain
There is written, her fair neck round about,
"Noli me tangere, for Caesar's I am,
And wild to hold, though I seem tame."
Sir Thomas Wyatt ~ Thomas Wyatt
