They condemn our town. Separate it from their own, where the same secrets pulse. ~ T.E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Carter
Beth will come back and coach Gretchen and Kailey on how to say the right things. I don't know if anyone is coaching the boys, but it seems unfair. Why do Gretchen and Kailey have to learn how to be the right kind of victims? ~ T.E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Carter
People want this to be an anomaly.... we can handle monsters, we can't handle our neighbors doing these things. we can't believe these are the same people we see at Christmas parties, and basketball games. ~ T. E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T. E. Carter
People have a hard time believing what they don't want to believe. What makes them look inward. ~ T.E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Carter
She doesn't believe it. She says it's a misunderstanding. That Caleb wouldn't... How does someone misunderstand find a body in a backyard? ~ T.E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Carter
Nobody ever wants to be inconvenienced by all the things that happen to girls. ~ T.E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Carter
People don't debate what defines murder. Politicians don't argue the body's ability to fight off being killed. There's no talk of "murder culture." No one says that you asked for murder. What you wear doesn't excuse being killed. ~ T.E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Carter
This isn't a story of great romance or of true love. It's simply a story of being lonely and how comforting it is to be called beautiful. ~ T.E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Carter
Rape.
It brings with it connotations, assumptions, a whole steamer trunk full of other people's ideas of it, because other people only know it as a word. A concept that's discussed, argued, demonized. If you actually know what it is, if you live it and experience it and know what it is beyond a word, you have to carry that word with you. You're now 'rape victim', 'rape survivor'. Your identity is attached permanently to a word you hate. ~ T E Carter
T E Carter quotes by T E Carter
In the quiet between all the worry and all the things we fill our minds with, the world goes on. ~ T.E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Carter
The court of public opinion moves much faster than the law. ~ T.E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Carter
Winter broke the trees and now it's breaking all the people, too. ~ T.E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Carter
I didn't deserve this. Even the most confused and lost girl, even the most screwed up of us all, doesn't deserve this. Death isn't the consequence for making a mistake; it's the punishment we force on girls because they couldn't be good. Only girls have to die for wanting. ~ T.E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Carter
Perhaps the worst dangers in our lives are the ones we invite in. ~ T.E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Carter
The thing about my diary is that I lied in it. I obscured the truth. I never told even the empty space around me the whole story. I was afraid someone would find it, read it, know me. I wanted them to know a different girl. A better one. ~ T.E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Carter
People should see what goes on. What it really feels like. Because once a trial starts and everyone's watching, both men will stand resolved and stoic. But if they could see this, if they could see what this kind of darkness does to a person, maybe they'd feel it, too. Maybe they wouldn't make excuses anymore. Maybe they wouldn't shrug it off, because, you know, these things happen. ~ T.E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Carter
In my case, the effort for these years to live in the dress of Arabs, and to imitate their mental foundation, quitted me of my English self, and let me look at the West and its conventions with new eyes: they destroyed it all for me. At the same time I could not sincerely take on the Arab skin: it was an affectation only. Easily was a man made an infidel, but hardly might he be converted to another faith. I had dropped one form and not taken on the other, and has become like Mohammed's coffin in our legend, with a resultant feeling of intense loneliness in life, and a contempt, not for other men, but for all they do. Such detachment came at times to a man exhausted by prolonged physical effort and isolation. His body plodded on mechanically, while his reasonable mind left him, and from without looked down critically on him, wondering what that futile lumber did and why. Sometimes these selves would converse in the void; and then madness was very near, as I believe it would be near the man who could see things through the veils at once of two customs, two educations, two environments. ~ T.E. Lawrence
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Lawrence
The Howeitat spread out along the cliffs to return the peasants' fire. This manner of going displeased Auda, the old lion, who raged that a mercenary village folk should dare to resist their secular masters, the Abu Tayi. So he jerked his halter, cantered his mare down the path, and rode out plain to view beneath the easternmost houses of the village. There he reined in, and shook a hand at them, booming in his wonderful voice: 'Dogs, do you not know Auda?' When they realized it was that implacable son of war their hearts failed them, and an hour later Sherif Nasir in the town-house was sipping tea with his guest the Turkish Governor, trying to console him for the sudden change of fortune. ~ T.E. Lawrence
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Lawrence
All men dream, but nor equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity, but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible. This I did. ~ T.E. Lawrence
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Lawrence
I told you not to trust a wolf," he continued. His words dripped like honeyed venom. "Because it would only ever want to break you." Darren let out a small, harsh laugh. "Haven't you figured it out yet? I'm the wolf, Ryiah. I guess what I really should have told you was to never trust a prince, but that's not quite as memorable. ~ Rachel E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by Rachel E. Carter
A first difficulty of the Arab movement was to say who the Arabs were. Being a manufactured people, their name had been changing in sense slowly year by year. Once it meant an Arabian. There was a country called Arabia; but this was nothing to the point. ~ T.E. Lawrence
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Lawrence
Cling tight to your sense of humour. You will need it every day. ~ T.E. Lawrence
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Lawrence
You can be a great man and still be a fool. Many of our country's leaders can attest to that. Were they still living. ~ Rachel E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by Rachel E. Carter
This kiss was hello.
It was I've missed you, I've craved you, I've never forgotten you.
This kiss was love. ~ E.S. Carter

You should never trust a wolf in sheep's clothing. Because the only thing the wolf will ever want to do is break you. ~ Rachel E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by Rachel E. Carter
History is often the tale of small moments - chance encounters or casual decisions or sheer coincidence - that seem of little consequence at the time, but somehow fuse with other small moments to produce something momentous, the proverbial flapping of a butterfly's wings that triggers a hurricane. ~ Scott Anderson
T E Carter quotes by Scott Anderson
Man is an extraordinarily fixed and limited animal whose nature is absolutely constant. It is only by tradition and organisation that anything decent can be got out of him. ~ T. E. Hulme
T E Carter quotes by T. E. Hulme
The irony was that my real enemy had been there all along right in front of me. Smiling crookedly and convincing me we were friends. Trying to seduce me for the thrill of the chase. Chastising me for not trusting him that first year in the tower stairs at the Academy… Telling me he loved me. And then tossing me aside the second I jeopardized his dreams. I wasn't what he had wanted all these years. I'd merely been a diversion in his pursuit of the crown.
I never should have trusted a prince. ~ Rachel E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by Rachel E. Carter
Who wants to be a speck of dust when you can be someone's entire world. ~ E.S. Carter
T E Carter quotes by E.S. Carter
It had been an assault of everything wrong and right, right and wrong, wrong and right. ~ Rachel E. Carter

T E Carter quotes by E.S. Carter
I love you, even past the boundary of eternity. Not even the end of my existence could extinguish the love I feel for you. ~ E.A. Carter
T E Carter quotes by E.A. Carter
The desert Arab found no joy like the joy of voluntarily holding back. He found luxury in abnegation, renunciation, self restraint. He made nakedness of the mind as sensuous as nakedness of the body. He saved his own soul, perhaps, and without danger, but in a hard selfishness. ~ T.E. Lawrence
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Lawrence
That somehow, this insufferable girl would become the one person I am forever, hopelessly, madly drawn to against my will and possibly even my better judgment. ~ Rachel E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by Rachel E. Carter
They are brothers," Benny repeated softly. "That is a bond you cannot break. ~ Rachel E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by Rachel E. Carter
He was old and wise, which meant tired and disappointed ... ~ T.E. Lawrence
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Lawrence
Who am I?" she snaps. "I am America, Israel, England! What am I doing?" She waits another long moment, her eyes shining. "I'm shutting up and listening." She draws the last word out so it hisses through the air. "I am the presidents, the kings, the prime ministers, the highs and the mighties - L-I-S-T-E-N!" She spells the word in the air. "The woman who made the baklava has something to say to you! Voilà! You see? Now what am I doing?" She picks up an imaginary plate, lifts something from it, and takes an invisible bite. Then she closes her eyes and says, "Mmm... That is such delicious Arabic-Jordanian-Lebanese-Palestinian baklawa. Thank you so much for sharing it with us! Please will you come to our home now and have some of our food?" She puts down the plate and brushes imaginary crumbs from her fingers. "So now what did I just do?
"You ate some baklawa?"
She curls her hand as if making a point so essential, it can be held only in the tips of the fingers. "I looked, I tasted, I spoke kindly and truthfully. I invited. You know what else? I keep doing it. I don't stop if it doesn't work on the first or the second or the third try. And like that!" She snaps the apron from the chair into the air, leaving a poof of flour like a wish. "There is your peace. ~ Diana Abu-Jaber
T E Carter quotes by Diana Abu-Jaber
Loyalty is never built upon honor, brother. It is built upon blood. ~ Rachel E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by Rachel E. Carter
The view which regards man as a well, a reservoir full of possibilities, I call the romantic; the one which regards him as a very finite and fixed creature, I call the classical. ~ T. E. Hulme
T E Carter quotes by T. E. Hulme
Claim me, and your every movement, every breath, every word will be written upon my heart, for eternity. You will be immortal yet. ~ E.A. Carter
T E Carter quotes by E.A. Carter
Q: Do you have any advice for upcoming writers who want to pen weird stories?

A: READ, damn it. Fill your brain to the bursting point with the good stuff, starting with writers that you truly enjoy, and then work your way backward and outward, reading those writers who inspired the writers you love best. That was my path as far as Weird/Horror Fiction, starting with Lovecraft, and then working my way backward/outward on the Weird Fiction spiderweb. And don't limit your reading. Read it all, especially non-fiction and various news outlets. You'd be surprised by how many of my story ideas were born while listening to NPR, perusing a blog, or paging through Vanity Fair.

Once you have your fuel squared away, just write what you love, in whatever style and genre. You'll never have fun being someone you're not, so be yourself. When a singer opens their mouth, what comes out is what comes out.

Also, don't be afraid to fail, and don't be afraid to walk away. Writing isn't for everyone, and that's totally fine. One doesn't need to be a writer to enjoy being a reader and overall fan of genre or wider fiction. ~ T.E. Grau
T E Carter quotes by T.E. Grau
Pure geometrical regularity gives a certain pleasure to men troubled by the obscurity of outside appearance. The geometrical line is something absolutely distinct from the messiness, the confusion, and the accidental details of existing things. ~ T. E. Hulme
T E Carter quotes by T. E. Hulme
People make mistakes all the time –some of us just are in more of a position to leave an impact when we do." Impact. Influence. Somehow along the way I had joined the circle of people whose actions dictated change, and it scared me how easy it would be to make the wrong one. ~ Rachel E. Carter
T E Carter quotes by Rachel E. Carter
What name shall we give it which hath no name, the common eternal matter of the mind? If we were to call it essence, some might think it meant perfume, or gold, or honey. It is not even mind. It is not even discussible, groupable into words; it is not even endless, in fact it is not even mysterious or inscrutably inexplicable; it is what is; it is that; it is this. We could easily call the golden eternity "This." But "what's in a name?" asked Shakespeare. The golden eternity by another name would be as sweet. A Tathagata, a God, a Buddha by
another name, an Allah, a Sri Krishna, a Coyote, a Brahma, a Mazda, a Messiah, an Amida, an Aremedeia, a Maitreya, a Palalakonuh, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 would be as sweet. The golden eternity is X, the golden eternity is A, the golden eternity is /, the golden eternity is O, the golden eternity is [ ], the golden eternity is t-h-e-g-o-l-d-e-n-e-t-e-r-n-i-t-y. In the beginning was the word; before the beginning, in the beginningless infinite neverendingness, was the essence. Both the word "god" and the essence of the word, are emptiness. The form of emptiness which is emptiness having taken the form of form, is what you see and hear and feel right now, and what you taste and smell and think as you read this. Wait awhile, close your eyes, let your breathing stop three seconds or so, listen to the inside silence in the womb of the world, let your hands and nerve-ends drop, re-recognize the bliss you forgot, the emptiness and essence and ecstas ~ Jack Kerouac
T E Carter quotes by Jack Kerouac
Art, literature, and philosophy are attempts to found the world anew on a human freedom: that of the creator; to foster such an aim, one must first unequivocally posit oneself as a freedom. The restrictions that education and custom impose on a woman limit her grasp of the universe...Indeed, for one to become a creator, it is not enough to be cultivated, that is, to make going to shows and meeting people part of one's life; culture must be apprehended through the free movement of a transcendence; the spirit with all its riches must project itself in an empty sky that is its to fill; but if a thousand fine bonds tie it to the earth, its surge is broken. The girl today can certainly go out alone, stroll in the Tuileries; but I have already said how hostile the street is: eyes everywhere, hands waiting: if she wanders absentmindedly, her thoughts elsewhere, if she lights a cigarette in a cafe, if she goes to the cinema alone, an unpleasant incident can quickly occur; she must inspire respect by the way she dresses and behaves: this concern rivets her to the ground and self. "Her wings are clipped." At eighteen, T.E. Lawrence went on a grand tour through France by bicycle; a young girl would never be permitted to take on such an adventure...Yet such experiences have an inestimable impact: this is how an individual in the headiness of freedom and discovery learns to look at the entire world as his fief...[The girl] may feel alone within the world: she never stands up in front of i ~ Simone De Beauvoir
T E Carter quotes by Simone De Beauvoir
