Hitchcock had a charm about him. He was very funny at times. He was incredibly brilliant in his field of suspense. ~ Tippi Hedren
Suspense Novels quotes by Tippi Hedren
We all live in suspense from day to day; in other words you are the hero of your own story. ~ Mary McCarthy
Suspense Novels quotes by Mary McCarthy
I think readers appreciate those of us who stay in the trenches and fight the good fight even when times get tough. I know that I, personally, lost respect for writers who, when there was a downturn in the market, started shouting from the rooftops that they wrote thrillers and suspense novels rather than horror. As far as I'm concerned, those wussboys should sever all ties with the horror community if that's the way they feel and get out of the way so real horror writers can do their work. ~ Bentley Little
Suspense Novels quotes by Bentley Little
I read what I like to write: romantic suspense. I also love thrillers and novels of suspense, but I can't handle extreme violence and torture. ~ Jayne Ann Krentz
Suspense Novels quotes by Jayne Ann Krentz
Angel you may have lucked out this time, but just remember I'm going to be on your ass until I get my revenge. I promise you this will not be the last time you will see me! You're a dead man Medina, maybe not now but soon! - Orlando to Angel under the crumbling furnace in the hotel. ~ Angel Ramon Medina
Suspense Novels quotes by Angel Ramon Medina
In suspense novels even subplots about relationships have to have conflict. ~ Jeffery Deaver

An unforgettable tale of love, lust, faith, betrayal, and redemption. A powerful, mesmerizing suspense novel-a tour de force! ~ Judith Kelman
Suspense Novels quotes by Judith Kelman
Even though I got a late start, first publishing an essay when I was 50 years old, I've since written eight suspense novels. ~ Hallie Ephron
Suspense Novels quotes by Hallie Ephron
I keep thinking I'll enjoy suspense novels, and sometimes I do. I've read about 20 Dick Francis novels. ~ Nicholson Baker
Suspense Novels quotes by Nicholson Baker
Introducing a great artist, Alexander Wainwright in THe Fate of Pryde.

In his landscapes, Alex expresses the totality of everything in the universe. At the same time, within each leaf, each drop of water or human hair, he conveys a light or glow, which seems to come - how shall I put this - from another dimension. And each brushstroke contains every ounce of his own life and vitality.

From The Fate of Pryde, the second in The Trilogy of Remembrance.

Suspense Novels quotes by Mary E. Martin
All I've really ever done is write since I was 17, so I don't know anything about anything. For me to do a novel, I have to talk to people who know things. And what keeps me in suspense is that I am a crime aficionado. ~ Lisa Gardner
Suspense Novels quotes by Lisa Gardner
Nothing in life ever prepared me for a situation where I accidentally share a genuine kiss with a woman who's supposed to be a small step up from 'hostage'. ~ Alexis Abbott
Suspense Novels quotes by Alexis Abbott
I like to believe my suspense novels marry the strong characters from my romance writing past, with the twisty, clever plots of my mystery writing present. ~ Lisa Gardner
Suspense Novels quotes by Lisa Gardner
Suspense is very important. Even though this is humor and they're short stories, that theory of building suspense is still there. ~ Sergio Aragones
Suspense Novels quotes by Sergio Aragones
Creativity is a commodity and derives its value only in how energy is spent. ~ Mary Deal
Suspense Novels quotes by Mary Deal
I write what I want to write. Period. I don't write novels-for-hire using media tie-in characters, I don't write suspense novels or thrillers. I write horror. And if no one wants to buy my books, I'll just keep writing them until they do sell
and get a job at Taco Bell in the meantime. ~ Bentley Little
Suspense Novels quotes by Bentley Little
I think of my books now as suspense novels, usually with a love story incorporated. They're absolutely a lot harder to write than romances. They take more plotting and real character development. ~ Sandra Brown
Suspense Novels quotes by Sandra Brown
I still read romance, and I read suspense. I read them both. And part of it is, I like stories with strong characters, and I like stories where there's closure at the end. And I like stories where there's hope. That's a kind of empowerment. I think romance novels are very empowering, and I think suspense novels are, too. ~ Lisa Gardner
Suspense Novels quotes by Lisa Gardner
Be the hero of your own story. ~ Joe Rogan
Suspense Novels quotes by Joe Rogan
The attraction between them was incendiary, yet somehow twelve years ago she'd walked away from as if he meant nothing. ~ Katie Reus
Suspense Novels quotes by Katie Reus
No one fucks with the Lazos brothers. ~ Savannah Stuart
Suspense Novels quotes by Savannah Stuart
It's so still she can almost hear the thrum of the cosmos, its pulse trembling at the edge of perception ~ Michael Allan Scott
Suspense Novels quotes by Michael Allan Scott
In Paris, Julien's position with regard to Madame de Renal would very soon have been simplified; but in Paris love is the child of the novels. The young tutor and his timid mistress would have found in three or four novels, and even in the lyrics of the Gymnase, a clear statement of their situation. The novels would have outlined for them the part to be played, shown them the model to copy; and this model, sooner or later, albeit without the slightest pleasure, and perhaps with reluctance, vanity would have compelled Julien to follow.

In a small town of the Aveyron or the Pyrenees, the slightest incident would have been made decisive by the ardour of the climate. Beneath our more sombre skies, a penniless young man, who is ambitious only because the refinement of his nature puts him in need of some of those pleasures which money provides, is in daily contact with a woman of thirty who is sincerely virtuous, occupied with her children, and never looks to novels for examples of conduct. Everything goes slowly, everything happens by degrees in the provinces: life is more natural. ~ Stendhal
Suspense Novels quotes by Stendhal
It didn't matter that she didn't live here, that a relationship was out of the question. It was probably because a relationship wouldn't happen that he could let himself get this close. He wrapped his arms tighter around her as though this were all that existed in the world. Just the two of them, the mountain, the clean winter air. The taste of her tongue on his lips. ~ Rebecca Brooks
Suspense Novels quotes by Rebecca Brooks
I read secular fiction, but also enjoy novels with a Christian worldview. ~ Randy Alcorn
Suspense Novels quotes by Randy Alcorn
Where is the line between art and pornography? But there's always been a huge overlap between the two; you can see scenes of copulation on Greek vases and Indian temples. What's more, many works of art have seemed pornographic without nakedness. Many of us are tempted to talk as if art = good, pornography = bad. Yet that's wrong too. Much art is poor, while the novels of the Marquis de Sade are pornography taken to a brilliant, horrifying and extraordinary peak. - Alastair Macaulay, NY Times article, Nakedness in Dance, August 16, 2012 ~ Alastair Macaulay
Suspense Novels quotes by Alastair Macaulay
All the bad in my life led me to her, which makes me think that I can live with the past if she is my future. - HEW ~ Michelle Warren
Suspense Novels quotes by Michelle Warren
Not Mr. Rasmussen. Call me Dom. I really think we should be on a first-name basis, since you know that I strip off my suit every night and get into bed wearing nothing at all.". ~ Avery Flynn
Suspense Novels quotes by Avery Flynn
He wanted to paddle her himself, then shake her, then sit her down in a chair and explain to her why she must never, ever get herself in a situation where she could be shot at again - and then throw himself at her feet. ~ Tara Janzen
Suspense Novels quotes by Tara Janzen
...All they were interested in was where she planned to get her tattoo.
"You're just going to have to use your imagination," she told them.
Cooper snorted. "Becker is screwed then. He doesn't have any imagination. ~ Paige Tyler
Suspense Novels quotes by Paige Tyler
Not merely one of the finest fantasy novels of recent years, but one of the finest ever. Should not be missed ~ Brian Stableford
Suspense Novels quotes by Brian Stableford

you can't tell who a person is just from his looks. ~ Cheryl Rainfield
Suspense Novels quotes by Cheryl Rainfield
Novels are ... an unsurpassed form to understand people. ~ Henning Mankell
Suspense Novels quotes by Henning Mankell
Luna had never been good at coping with death. After all she had gone through, she knew she should've been trained.
But she wasn't. She was regrettably human. ~ Kayla Krantz
Suspense Novels quotes by Kayla Krantz
I think you can tell when you meet someone whether they read novels. There's some hollowness if they don't. ~ Philip Hensher
Suspense Novels quotes by Philip Hensher
All of my novels are seeded in real life events, and 'The Wreckage' is no different. ~ Michael Robotham
Suspense Novels quotes by Michael Robotham
I'm not a big crime reader, but I'm reading Michael Connelly's 'The Reversal.' I'm going back to his novels. I'm also reading Keith Richards' 'Life.' I'm always fascinated by the transition from the innocent late '60s and early '70s and the youth culture becoming an industry. ~ Jo Nesbo
Suspense Novels quotes by Jo Nesbo
Jay was basically Wyatt's right hand man and head of his personal security. ~ Katie Reus
Suspense Novels quotes by Katie Reus
You're not safe with me."
He cut me off, seeming to growl. "I don't want to be safe. I want to be with you. You can't do this alone. ~ S.G. Holster
Suspense Novels quotes by S.G. Holster
One of the greatest sins in any story is false suspense. The kind of 'suspense' that disintegrates the moment you give your reader one second to think about it. And it's an easy trap to fall into, so watch carefully for it. If your story hinges on the question, 'Will Superman be pushed so far in his battle against Lex Luthor that he'll have to kill him?', or if your big cliffhanger moment is, 'Wow, is Spider-Man really dead this time?', then I understand Food Lion is hiring. ~ Mark Waid
Suspense Novels quotes by Mark Waid
If a plot is a novel's skeleton, and characters are the muscle, then theme is its soul. ~ Janice Hardy
Suspense Novels quotes by Janice Hardy
She came through the door the moment my beer arrived. Fortyish, salon-blonde, spray tan, fake boobs and real diamonds. Anywhere else it would be a bimbo alert, but in Florida it was just protective coloration. ~ C.I. Dennis
Suspense Novels quotes by C.I. Dennis
You don't kill someone you love, do you? ~ Martin Pond
Suspense Novels quotes by Martin Pond
Her blue eyes meet mine. "What's the first physical feature you look for in
someone you're attracted to?"
Dimples. Tits. Long, dark hair. "Height."
"Really?" She's taken aback, and it's obvious from her wide eyes that she
doesn't believe me. "Huh. That surprises me."
"Why?"
"I don't know, I thought you'd say big boobs or something."
Pfft, like I'd admit that shit out loud. ~ Sara Ney
Suspense Novels quotes by Sara Ney
You carry the weight of the preternatural world on those big shoulders of yours. But your heart is even bigger, and the burden you harbor there heavier. ~ N.D. Jones
Suspense Novels quotes by N.D. Jones
A novel is not born of a single idea. The stories I've tried to write from one idea, no matter how terrific an idea, have sputtered out and died by chapter three. For me, novels have invariably come from a complex of ideas that in the beginning seemed to bear no relation to each other, but in the unconscious began mysteriously to merge and grow. Ideas for a novel are like the strong guy lines of a spider web. Without them the silken web cannot be spun. ~ Katherine Paterson
Suspense Novels quotes by Katherine Paterson
As Evelyn slid to a stop in the center of the hallway, Butler calmly shook his head. Then he lifted his machine gun and fired. ~ Elizabeth Heiter
Suspense Novels quotes by Elizabeth Heiter
I was a political journalist; I came to writing novels through an interest in politics and power. ~ Robert Harris
Suspense Novels quotes by Robert Harris
A laconic and highly entertaining" novel. "The characters are strong, each showing major evidence of being a product of their respective cultures. Overall, the story is a strong one, with a couple of well-executed twists that succeed in surprising the reader."

- Publishers Weekly judge for the 2014 ABNA Contest, Two Brides for Ewan de Buchan

"I love historical romance novels and this one right off the bat based on the plot/hook made me want to read more. I devoured this...and re-read it twice. It seems like the author has a very good handle on the time period in which this novel is set."

- 2014 ABNA Contest judge, Two Brides for Ewan de Buchan

"I think this is really well crafted and interesting. The plot/hook caught me from the first paragraph. The characters are well done and I really loved the novelist's attention to historical detail...It's a really great romance novel, and is of publication quality. This novelist has a real future in writing romance (or even general fiction) books."

- 2014 ABNA Contest judge, Two Brides for Ewan de Buchan ~ E. Elizabeth Watson
Suspense Novels quotes by E. Elizabeth Watson
Areila walked like she had somewhere to go. I stood by the fountain and watched her pass, but I didn't speak. It was the lady's prerogative to pretend she didn't see me. She got to the edge of the park; I swear, her foot hovered right over the line, when she turned with military precision and marched back. She stopped in front of me and said, Hello. ~ Christina Dodd
Suspense Novels quotes by Christina Dodd
At conventions, one of the standard questions I get is, 'Are you writing any new novels?' To which I used to respond, in my smart-[alec] fashion, 'No, I've decided to write only old novels.' ~ Peter David
Suspense Novels quotes by Peter David
In the first year, 1988, I wrote and sold 3 novels. ~ George Stephen
Suspense Novels quotes by George Stephen
Good God, the man is dumber than Tink's dildo... ~ Kim Harrison
Suspense Novels quotes by Kim Harrison
Anyone and everyone taking a writing class knows that the secret of good writing is to cut it back, pare it down, winnow, chop, hack, prune, and trim, remove every superfluous word, compress, compress, compress...

Actually, when you think about it, not many novels in the Spare tradition are terribly cheerful. Jokes you can usually pluck out whole, by the roots, so if you're doing some heavy-duty prose-weeding, they're the first to go. And there's some stuff about the whole winnowing process I just don't get. Why does it always stop when the work in question has been reduced to sixty or seventy thousand words--entirely coincidentally, I'm sure, the minimum length for a publishable novel? I'm sure you could get it down to twenty or thirty if you tried hard enough. In fact, why stop at twenty or thirty? Why write at all? Why not just jot the plot and a couple of themes down on the back of an envelope and leave it at that? The truth is, there's nothing very utilitarian about fiction or its creation, and I suspect that people are desperate to make it sound manly, back-breaking labor because it's such a wussy thing to do in the first place. The obsession with austerity is an attempt to compensate, to make writing resemble a real job, like farming, or logging. (It's also why people who work in advertising put in twenty-hour days.) Go on, young writers--treat yourself to a joke, or an adverb! Spoil yourself! Readers won't mind! ~ Nick Hornby
Suspense Novels quotes by Nick Hornby
You'll notice that my books offer great variety. Some are for adults, some for children and some for teens. There are mysteries, historical novels, picture books, love stories and stories of crisis and courage. ~ Sonia Levitin
Suspense Novels quotes by Sonia Levitin
...when I die I'll meet my characters in heaven. And they won't be made at me . . ." Nick Cole

Probably the coolest quote from an author I have ever heard! ~ Nick Cole
Suspense Novels quotes by Nick Cole
You can tell Allah that when he judges you. Explain how you helped them build their obscene wealth. Explain how you helped them dole out scraps to the general population in order to keep it in check. Explain how you looked the other way while your employers raped the holy land for their own benefit and enjoyment. And why did you look the other way? So you could keep your modest civil servant post. Take the money," Siraj insisted as he pushed it across the table. "You've done more to earn it than I have. ~ Christian F. Burton
Suspense Novels quotes by Christian F. Burton
And his kisses.
God, his lips feel like they were custom made to fit perfectly against mine.
He alternates between soft and sweet, hard and hungry. And I get it.
Though we've shared plenty of kisses, this one is different. It's like discovering a lake in the middle of a desert. Or waking up on Christmas morning to a glistening blanket of show. The equivalent of winning the lottery.
And though it redefines the "cheese" in cheesiness, that's what it feels like to have Logan back in my life, back in my arms, when I thought he was lost to me forever.
Being with him means more than I can express. It's everything. He's everything. I start and end with him. ~ Siobhan Davis
Suspense Novels quotes by Siobhan Davis
Things so seldom go exactly the way we plan. ~ Avery Flynn
Suspense Novels quotes by Avery Flynn
Every year the literary press praises dozens if not hundreds of novels to the skies, asserting explicitly or implicitly that these books will probably not be suffering water damage in the basements of their authors' houses 20 years from now. But historically, anyway, that's not the way the novelistic ecology works. ~ Lev Grossman
Suspense Novels quotes by Lev Grossman
I was thinking... that this isn't casual for me. ~ Katie Reus
Suspense Novels quotes by Katie Reus
Suddenly she felt strong and happy. She was not afraid of the darkness or the fog and she knew with a singing in her heart that she would never fear them again. No matter what mists might curl around her in the future, she knew her refuge. She started briskly up the street toward home and the blocks seemed very long. Far, far too long. She caught up her skirts to her knees and began to run lightly. But this time she was not running from fear. She was running because Rhett's arms were at the end of the street. ~ Margaret Mitchell
Suspense Novels quotes by Margaret Mitchell
I couldn't think about novels at all. It seemed the only writing that was appropriate to that horrendous event was journalism, reportage. And, in fact, I think the profession rose quite honorably to the task. Novelists require a slower turnover, I mean, in time. ~ Ian McEwan
Suspense Novels quotes by Ian McEwan
When strangers on a train or a plane ask what I do for a living, I say, "I kill people." This response makes for a short conversation. No eye contact and no sudden movement from my seat-mate. Only peace and quiet. Rare is the fellow passenger who asks why I do it.

I suppose I got tired hanging out in a book all day waiting for a story to begin. I write the kind of novels I want to read. And why the theme of solving murders? Violent death is larger than life and it's the great equalizer. By law, every victim is entitled to a paladin and a chase, else life would be cheapened.

And the real reason I do this? My brain is simply bent this way. There is nothing else I would rather do. This neatly chains into my theory of the writing life. If you scratch an artist, under the skin you will find a bum who cannot hold down a real job. Conversely, if you scratch a bum... but I have never done that.

The heart of my theory has puritan roots: if you love what you do, you cannot call it honest work. ~ Carol O'Connell
Suspense Novels quotes by Carol O'Connell
For the Age has itself become vulgar, and most people have no idea to what extent they are themselves tainted. The bad manners of all parliaments, the general tendency to connive at a rather shady business transaction if it promises to bring in money without work, jazz and Negro dances as the spiritual outlet in all circles of society, women painted like prostitutes, the efforts of writers to win popularity by ridiculing in their novels and plays the correctness of well-bred people, and the bad taste shown even by the nobility and old princely families in throwing off every kind of social restraint and time-honoured custom: all of these go to prove that it is now the vulgar mob that gives the tone. ~ Oswald Spengler
Suspense Novels quotes by Oswald Spengler
Partially satisfied by grazing on the first few pages of several books, and as a consequence, there are half-chewed novels lying all over the place. At least, I'm presuming they're lying all over the place; I seem to have temporarily lost most of them. When the World Cup is over, and we clear away the piles of betting slips and wall charts, some of them will, presumably, reappear. I wrote in this column recently about Muriel Spark's novels, their genius and their attractive brevity, but there is an obvious disadvantage to her concision: her books tend to get buried under things. I can put my hands on Dennis Lehane's historical novel The Given Day whenever I want, simply because it is seven hundred pages long. ~ Nick Hornby
Suspense Novels quotes by Nick Hornby
Okay, babe, I'm here.
The front door smashed opened, slamming against the wall - the man didn't know how to turn a knob? ~ Christy Reece
