Macbeth:
If we should fail?
Lady Macbeth:
We fail?
But screw your courage to the sticking place,
And we'll not fail. ~ William Shakespeare
Sticking Place quotes by William Shakespeare
We fail?
But screw your courage to the sticking place
And we'll not fail. (Lady Macbeth) ~ William Shapespeare
Sticking Place quotes by William Shapespeare
In time of war, under the banner of an enemy recognisable as such, a foreigner from a camp outside the lines, the imperial idea grew strong in confidence and temper. The British democracy rallied to the call of a strong leadership, and it was not just in rhetorical enthusiasm but with considerable personal satisfaction that Churchill hailed the year 1940-1 as the British people's 'finest hour'. He, with other imperialists, was delighted by the fact that, when it came to the sticking-place, it was the old-fashioned loyalty of the reactionary British Empire to all that was symbolised by allegiance to Crown and country that came forward to save European civilisation from utter overthrow by German tyranny...The days of showing the flag - even for only a momentary glimpse, such as wall that inhabitants of Greece and Crete and Dieppe had of it - had returned. The Empire was the Empire once more, and to 10, Downing Street returned that imperial control that two generations of Dominion opinion had combined to condemn as sinister. ~ A.P. Thornton
Sticking Place quotes by A.P. Thornton
Screw your courage to the sticking-place ~ William Shakespeare
Sticking Place quotes by William Shakespeare
Everything I have ever done I've done from a place of love. If I don't punish you, the world will punish you even worse. The world doesn't love you. If the police get you, the police don't love you. When I beat you, I'm trying to save you. When they beat you, they're trying to kill you. ~ Trevor Noah
Sticking Place quotes by Trevor Noah
Fame for me is like a place, a country I'm taking a tour through. ~ Dave Chappelle
Sticking Place quotes by Dave Chappelle
It is my hope that in the end, we are evenly matched.' ... Being the one in power was desirable in order to put one's pieces in place. To test an opponent. But uneven power grew unendingly boring. And it was why most of his liaisons were short-lived. He wanted someone who waited and plotted, then struck back and made him move and think. ~ Anne Mallory
Sticking Place quotes by Anne Mallory
I am not inspired by helping you find Chinese food at 2am in Dallas, or swipe right to get laid. I want to use tech and data to make the world a better place. ~ Nancy Lublin
Sticking Place quotes by Nancy Lublin
I am not the kind of person who becomes so invested in a book or movie or television show that my interest becomes a hobby or intense obsession, one where I start to declare allegiances or otherwise demonstrate a serious level of commitment to something fictional I had no hand in creating.

Or, I didn't used to be that kind of person.

Let me be clear: Team Peeta. I cannot fathom how one could be on any other team. Gale? I can barely acknowledge him. Peeta, on the other hand, is everything. He frosts things and bakes bread and is unconditional and unwavering in his love, and also he is very, very strong. He can throw a sack of four, is what I'm saying. Peeta is a place of solace and hope, and he is a good kisser. ~ Roxane Gay
Sticking Place quotes by Roxane Gay
Whenever you feel like giving up, think about why you started in the first place. If that still matters, so does the need to keep going. ~ Bianca McCormick-Johnson
Sticking Place quotes by Bianca McCormick-Johnson
The life and passion of a person leave an imprint on the ether of a place. Love does not remain within the heart, it flows out to build secret tabernacles in a landscape. ~ John O'Donohue
Sticking Place quotes by John O'Donohue
Lowell is my home. It is where I drew my first breath. It is where I will always derive a sense of place and a sense of belonging ~ Paul Tsongas
Sticking Place quotes by Paul Tsongas
For me, it was always just taking the next opportunity to sing in front of someone and always trying to take those strides forward to find a place to sing, to make a music career. It was small increments, but I always knew that I had to take the next opportunity. ~ Jimi Westbrook
Sticking Place quotes by Jimi Westbrook
The important place held by Jesus among the world's six hundred million Moslems ... and the agreement of both religions about the necessity for surrender to God as the means of salvation, thus makes it comparatively easy for a Moslem to address himself to Christians: the sympathy and the history are already there. ~ Idries Shah
Sticking Place quotes by Idries Shah
The more time you spend with someone, the more you realize they're not perfect. Everyone comes from a different place with different problems. ~ Aaron Starmer
Sticking Place quotes by Aaron Starmer
I sensed her before I saw her but I didn't scream. I remember thinking at the time that the split seconds before death were a quiet and still place. Her eyes were unapologetic, piercing and untamed. This is how it will end, I thought to myself with no sense of tragedy. It seemed complete and, in a way, romantic. But another second passed and then another. She released me from her hypnotic gaze and bent her beautiful head. And then with gentle flicks of her tongue began to drink from the river. Her eyes never wavered from mine as she lapped at the cool waters that flowed between us. And then, in a blink and a whisper, she was gone. ~ Giselle Fox
Sticking Place quotes by Giselle Fox
The length of life takes the leading place among inquiries about events following birth. ~ Ptolemy
Sticking Place quotes by Ptolemy
Those ancients who in poetry presented
the golden age, who sang its happy state,
perhaps, in their Parnassus, dreamt this place.
Here, mankind's root was innocent; and here
were every fruit and never-ending spring;
these streams
the nectar of which poets sing. ~ Dante Alighieri
Sticking Place quotes by Dante Alighieri
Imagine a world full of Elizabeth Wakefields,' Lila said. 'Could you imagine a duller, more predictable place? I think I'd go crazy. ~ Francine Pascal
Sticking Place quotes by Francine Pascal
And so even today, if, in a large provincial town, or in a quarter of Paris which I do not know very well, a passer-by who is "putting me on the right road" shows me in the distance, as a point to aim at, some hospital belfry or convent steeple lifting the peak of its ecclesiastical cap at the corner of the street which I am to take, my memory need only find in it some dim resemblance to that dear and vanished outline, and the passer-by, should he turn round to make sure that I have not gone astray, may be amazed to see me standing there, oblivious of the walk that I had planned to take or the place where I was obliged to call, gazing at the steeple for hours on end, motionless, trying to remember, feeling deep within myself a tract of soil reclaimed from the waters of Lethe slowly drying until the buildings rise on it again; and then no doubt, and then more anxiously than when, just now, I asked him to direct me, I seek my way again, I turn a corner ... but ... the goal is in my heart ... ~ Marcel Proust
Sticking Place quotes by Marcel Proust
The kid who throws his spaghetti from the high chair onto his father's face, he's pushing back. He's sticking it to the man as he sees it. I like that. So that is punk. ~ Henry Rollins
Sticking Place quotes by Henry Rollins
Our friendship is stronger than most people because we talk and breathe in the same room and we eat and sleep in the same place ~ Jaejoong
Sticking Place quotes by Jaejoong
Capitalism place money at the centre of everything. While Socialism make the man at the centre of the universe. ~ Mwanandeke Kindembo
Sticking Place quotes by Mwanandeke Kindembo
Rightly understood, a myth is an effort to tell truths that cannot be told with mere facts or known by the senses and the mind alone, truths that take form only in that integrative place called the heart. ~ Parker J. Palmer
Sticking Place quotes by Parker J. Palmer
We hardly need to be reminded that we are living in an age of confusion - a lot of us have traded in our beliefs for bitterness and cynicism or for a heavy package of despair, or even a quivering portion of hysteria. Opinions can be picked up cheap in the market place while such commodities as courage and fortitude and faith are in alarmingly short supply. ~ Edward R. Murrow
Sticking Place quotes by Edward R. Murrow
I get really antsy if I stay in one place too long. Universal was really supportive and understood that I needed to go across the Atlantic to reinvent myself and to find my voice, my muse. ~ Stella Soleil
Sticking Place quotes by Stella Soleil
I love the intimacy of venues like the House of Blues. When everyone is packed in and so close to you, it makes you play differently. It's so much more fun to play because there's so much more high energy in a place like that. ~ Gary Allan
Sticking Place quotes by Gary Allan
There are two things to be considered with regard to any scheme. In the first place, Is it good in itself? In the second, Can it be easily put into practice? ~ Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Sticking Place quotes by Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Carlos never shied from a mission, and if Mal wanted a howler, there was no alternative but to provide one. There was nothing he could do about it, AP Evil Penchant or not. He knew his place on the totem pole. First things first: a party couldn't be a party without guests. Which meant people. Lots of people. Bodies. Dancing. Talking. Drinking. Eating. ~ Melissa De La Cruz
Sticking Place quotes by Melissa De La Cruz
Singing has always been a part of my life. I started at Opryland singing, and I realized I could make a living at it. I thought it was something I would grow out of. I didn't know what I was going to do with my life. Everything's just sorta fallen into place. ~ Kassie DePaiva
Sticking Place quotes by Kassie DePaiva
Fiona had never learned her mother's language and she had never shown much respect for the stories that it preserved-the stories that Grant had taught and written about, and still did write about, in his working life. She referred to their heroes as "old Njal" or "old Snorri." But in the last few years she had developed an interest in the country itself and looked at travel guides. She read about William Morris's trip, and Auden's. She didn't really plan to travel there. She said the weather was too dreadful. Also-she said-there ought to be one place you thought about and knew about and maybe longed for-but never did get to see. ~ Alice Munro
Sticking Place quotes by Alice Munro
When your intentions are honest and pure, when you speak or act from a place of selflessness and love, the feedback and returns are unimaginable and immeasurable. ~ Nike Campbell-Fatoki
Sticking Place quotes by Nike Campbell-Fatoki
Maybe his heart is searching for and not finding the place it used to live. I understand that because mine is searching and not finding too. ~ Angela Johnson
Sticking Place quotes by Angela Johnson
When Aaron arrived at my place - a ground-floor studio fitting my full-size bed, desk, and TV - he came bearing gifts: The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron and two red tension balls. "I figure they'll help you relax and write," he said. We watched my favorite relationship ~ Janet Mock
Sticking Place quotes by Janet Mock
If you understand cause and effect, it brings about a set of insights that leads you to a very different place. The knowledge will persuade you that the market isn't organized by customer category or by product category. If you understand the job that consumers need to complete, you can articulate all of the experiences in that job. ~ Clayton Christensen
Sticking Place quotes by Clayton Christensen
It is important that the decorum and dignity of the House is upheld at all times. The image of Parliament in the public mind should be one where proceedings, debates and discussions take place with a view to resolve issues through a constructive and co-operative approach. ~ Pratibha Patil
Sticking Place quotes by Pratibha Patil
Mother Duncan, do kisses wash off?............"Lord, na! Freckles," she cried. "At least, the anes ye get from people ye love dinna. They dinna stay on the outside. They strike in until they find the centre of your heart and make their stopping-place there, and naething can take them from ye-I doubt if even death-Na, lad, ye can be reet sure kisses dinna wash off! ~ Gene Stratton-Porter
Sticking Place quotes by Gene Stratton-Porter
If we wish to fight, the enemy can be forced to an engagement even though he be sheltered behind a high rampart and a deep ditch. All we need do is attack some other place that he will be obliged to relieve. ~ Sun Tzu
Sticking Place quotes by Sun Tzu
When I was born, my mother dressed me as a boy because she could not afford to feed any more daughters. By the mystic laws of gender and economics, it ruins a peasant to place half a bowl of figs in front of his daughter, while his son may gorge on the whole tree, burn it for firewood and piss on the stump, and still be reckoned a blessing to his father. ~ Jeanette Winterson
Sticking Place quotes by Jeanette Winterson
Absolute faith is not the place of self-affirmation, but the place of self-negation. Life of faith is not limited to our spiritual life. What is important is how our spiritual sensitivity is applied to our relative environment. ~ Sun Myung Moon
Sticking Place quotes by Sun Myung Moon
We absorb and reflect what is around us. If we live in a place where people are angry and violent, then eventually we'll become like them. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
Sticking Place quotes by Thich Nhat Hanh
I felt the strange brooding lonely presence of Nature fostering a new race, a new age, and as part of it, a new expression in Art. It was an unfolding of the heart itself through the effect of environment, of people, of place, and time. ~ Lawren Harris
Sticking Place quotes by Lawren Harris
Always keep in mind that training stimulates growth, but that actual growth takes place while you are resting. ~ Arnold Schwarzenegger
Sticking Place quotes by Arnold Schwarzenegger
If you want to be loved,be a loveable. It's a good place to start. ~ David Levithan
Sticking Place quotes by David Levithan
A free-standing arch of rough-hewn stones and no mortar can be a stable structure, but it is irreducibly complex: it collapses if any one stone is removed. How, then, was it built in the first place? One way is to pile a solid heap of stones, then carefully remove stones one by one. More generally, there are many structures that are irreducible in the sense that they cannot survive the subtraction of any part, but which were built with the aid of scaffolding that was subsequently subtracted and is no longer visible. Once the structure is completed, the scaffolding can be removed safely and the structure remains standing. In evolution, too, the organ or structure you are looking at may have had scaffolding in an ancestor which has since been removed. 'Irreducible ~ Richard Dawkins
Sticking Place quotes by Richard Dawkins
Let this ground be seeded with salt, so that no stalk of corn, or stalk of wheat shall ever grow. Cursed be the children of this ground, and cursed be their loins. Also cursed be their hams and hocks. Hail Marry full of grace, let us blow this goddamn place. ~ Stephen King
Sticking Place quotes by Stephen King
It avails not, time nor place
distance avails not,
I am with you, you men and women of a generation, or ever so many
generations hence,
Just as you feel when you look on the river and sky, so I felt,
Just as any of you is one of a living crowd, I was one of a crowd,
Just as you are refresh'd by the gladness of the river and the
bright flow, I was refresh'd,
Just as you stand and lean on the rail, yet hurry with the swift
current, I stood yet was hurried,
Just as you look on the numberless masts of ships and the
thick-stemm'd pipes of steamboats, I look'd. ~ Walt Whitman
Sticking Place quotes by Walt Whitman
I keep coming back because I have no place else to go. What else would I do? I love to sing. ~ Cher
Sticking Place quotes by Cher
I haven't been disingenuous in what I've said describing my perception of "truth" and "reality." Certainly, I understand what is generally meant to be the "truth," I understand this notion, but it's not something I trust in, OK?

The only answer that feels true (I said feels, not is) is that yes, the character Minnie is me, but she is not me. She is a projection of some tumult which originates within me, but she is not me. I use elements of myself, including my likeness, for the character, perhaps as Cindy Sherman uses herself in her work, but like Sherman's photographs, the work itself is not any more about the creator than it is about everyone. I won't deny that Minnie does things I have done, and that things happen to her that have happened to me, but she, unlike me, having been created, is who she is and will remain so, unchanged now. I make no attempt to create "documentary." There is a process of dissociation that takes place when I make a story, I make creative decisions in a fugue state that I could hardly describe to you, but the end result is, I hope, a story with some meaning or resonance, something created, with a beginning, a middle and an end, an encapsulation of feeling and impression, but in no way a documentary of anything other than an "emotional truth."

If I told most interviewers that my work is "true" and that it is based on real events that occurred in my life, they would more readily accept this than they do the explanation I try to ~ Phoebe Gloeckner
Sticking Place quotes by Phoebe Gloeckner
We should go to no place that we would not go in His Presence. But He is not with us just to judge or condemn us; He is near to comfort, protect, guide, encourage, strengthen, cleanse, and help. ~ Billy Graham
Sticking Place quotes by Billy Graham
How do you tell somebody how to find what they're looking for when ten years ago you came from the same place, and have yet to find it yourself? ~ Tony Earley
Sticking Place quotes by Tony Earley
How puerile it would be, and what a dangerous heresy from the religious point of view, to believe that passion in its proper place is offensive to God! We are not Manicheans, that we should incline to believe that the flesh is under a curse, and that all matter springs from the Principle of Evil. Rather do we say that matter and the flesh come from God ~ Antonin Sertillanges
