Ten years ago a book appeared in France called D'Une foi l'autre, les conversions a l'Islam en Occident. The authors, both career journalists, carried out extensive interviews with new Muslims in Europe and America. Their conclusions are clear. Almost all educated converts to Islam come in through the door of Islamic spirituality. In the middle ages, the Sufi tariqas were the only effective engine of Islamisation in Muslim minority areas like Central Asia, India, black Africa and Java; and that pattern is maintained today.

Why should this be the case? Well, any new Muslim can tell you the answer. Westerners are in the first instance seeking not a moral path, or a political ideology, or a sense of special identity - these being the three commodities on offer among the established Islamic movements. They lack one thing, and they know it - the spiritual life. Thus, handing the average educated Westerner a book by Sayyid Qutb, for instance, or Mawdudi, is likely to have no effect, and may even provoke a revulsion. But hand him or her a collection of Islamic spiritual poetry, and the reaction will be immediately more positive. It is an extraordinary fact that the best-selling religious poet in modern America is our very own Jalal al-Din Rumi. Despite the immeasurably different time and place of his origin, he outsells every Christian religious poet.

Islam and the New Millennium ~ Abdal Hakim Murad
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Abdal Hakim Murad
It is warmer here. Can you see the light? Trust it. It is safe. It has lived a long time. It has seen much more than you. You fight a demon that you once knew but the demon is already slain. And from the corner of your eye you will see the scattered, sacred fire reform again. Settle, settle. Peace, peace ~ Donna Goddard
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Donna Goddard
Silence is round me, wideness ineffable;
White birds on the ocean diving and wandering;
A soundless sea on a voiceless heaven,
Azure on azure, is mutely gazing.

Identified with silence and boundlessness
My spirit widens clasping the universe
Till all that seemed becomes the Real,
One in a mighty and single vastness.

Someone broods there nameless and bodiless,
Conscious and lonely, deathless and infinite,
And, sole in a still eternal rapture,
Gathers all things to his heart for ever. ~ Sri Aurobindo
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Sri Aurobindo
Poetry is an intimate act. It's about bringing forth something that's inside you
whether it is a memory, a philosophical idea, a deep love for another person or for the world, or an apprehension of the spiritual. It's about making something, in language, which can be transmitted to others
not as information, or polemic, but as irreducible art. ~ Dorianne Laux
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Dorianne Laux
A mystical symphony permeates my senses and a holy lullaby embraces me. ~ Earthschool Harmony
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Earthschool Harmony
In the sacred connectedness of Love...

My consciousness has evolved enough to comprehend this existence is equivalent to a grasp of a dream, mentally unfathomable, the only potency is the truth of this moment.

Much love, peace and smiles to all~ ~ Dean Pusell
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Dean Pusell
Walk a bit further.
There is a different land not far away.
The people in it have the magic to break the icy fingers of the great death.
I heard that you don't even have to pay.
However, you have to find their door.
It is only found by those who pay the other price. ~ Donna Goddard
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Donna Goddard
I don't write poems
to melt your heart.
I write them,
so our hearts
can melt together. ~ Subhan Zein
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Subhan Zein
Surrender your pain, look within and see your perfect and divine self. ~ Earthschool Harmony
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Earthschool Harmony
Evolution

Spiritual Poetry quotes by Natasa Nuit Pantovic
The three ingredients of poetry: the mystery of the universe, spiritual curiosity, the energy of language. ~ Mary Oliver
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Mary Oliver
Our earliest poets were shamans. Today, as in the earliest times, true shamans are poets of consciousness who know the power of song and story to teach and to heal. ~ Robert Moss
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Robert Moss
The problem, however, is that you inevitably find, as I did, something still missing. In fact, the spirituality of most current discipleship models often only adds an additional protective layer against people growing up emotionally. When people have authentic spiritual experiences -- such as worship, prayer, Bible studies, and fellowship -- they mistakenly believe they are doing fine, even if their relational life is fractured and their interior world is disordered. Their apparent 'progress' then provides a spiritual reason for not doing the hard work of maturing. They are deceived. I know. I lived that way for almost seventeen years. Because of the spiritual growth in certain areas of my life and in those around me, I ignored the glaring signs of emotional immaturity that were everywhere in and around me. ~ Peter Scazzero
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Peter Scazzero
Imagination is manifest of thoughts by divine force. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
The vision is for the right time, although it takes time, wait for it , it will come true. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Think positive thoughts! I can remember when I thought my thoughts didn't make much difference. After all, they were in my head and certainly weren't affecting anyone but me. I was wrong - and so are you if this is your attitude. Thoughts operate in the spiritual realm. You cannot see thoughts just as you cannot see angels, but they are real; they merely function in a realm not visible to the eye. Thoughts become words, attitudes, body language, facial expressions, and moods - and all of these affect the atmosphere we dwell in. ~ Joyce Meyer
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Joyce Meyer
You take my breath away,
Even if you are miles away ~ Patrick Cruz
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Patrick Cruz
To be able to recognize your soul's mates, you are experiencing life on a very high spiritual level. They are a piece of Heaven on Earth ... Now that is astronomical!-Serena Jade ~ Serena Jade
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Serena Jade
I think it is time we learned the lesson of our century: that the progress of the human spirit must keep pace with technological and scientific progress, or that spirit will die. It is incumbent on our educators to remember this; and music is at the top of the spiritual must list. When the study of the arts leads to the adoration of the formula (heaven forbid), we shall be lost. But as long as we insist on maintaining artistic vitality, we are able to hope in man ~ Leonard Bernstein
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Leonard Bernstein
STARS AND DANDELIONS
Deep in the blue sky,
like pebbles at the bottom of the sea,
lie the stars unseen in daylight
until night comes.
You can't see them, but they are there.
Unseen things are still there.

The withered, seedless dandelions
hidden in the cracks of the roof tile
wait silently for spring,
their strong roots unseen.
You can't see them, but they are there.
Unseen things are still there. ~ Misuzu Kaneko
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Misuzu Kaneko
It would be inappropiate, undignified, at 38, to conduct friendships or love affairs with the ardour or intensity of a 22 year old. Falling in love like that? Writing poetry? Crying at pop songs? Dragging people into photobooths? Taking a whole day to make a compilation tape? Asking people if they wanted to share your bed, just for company? If you quoted Bob Dylan or TS Eliot or, god forbid, Brecht at someone these days they would smile politely and step quietly backwards, and who would blame them? Ridiculous, at 38, to expect a song or book or film to change your life. ~ David Nicholls
Spiritual Poetry quotes by David Nicholls
I love poetry; it's my primary literary interest, and I suppose the kind of reading you do when you are reading poems - close reading - can carry over into how you read other things. ~ Jonathan Galassi
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Jonathan Galassi
The opportunity here in the U.S. is so unique because we are so diverse, with so many different cultures living together. Christians, Jews, Hindus, Muslims and Buddhists, all with their own connections to the spiritual aspects of food and with lessons that we can learn from each other. ~ Marcus Samuelsson
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Marcus Samuelsson
Is it strange to say love is a language
Few practice, but all, or near all speak? ~ Tracy K. Smith
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Tracy K. Smith
In the infancy of society every author is necessarily a poet, because language itself is poetry; and to be a poet is to apprehend the true and the beautiful, in a word, the good which exists in the relation, subsisting, first between existence and perception, and secondly between perception and expression. Every original language near to its source is in itself the chaos of a cyclic poem: the copiousness of lexicography and the distinctions of grammar are the works of a later age, and are merely the catalogue and the form of the creations of poetry. ~ Percy Bysshe Shelley
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Percy Bysshe Shelley
The moment we give into temptation, Satan immediately changes his strategy and becomes the accuser. Thomas Brooks ~ Thomas Brooks
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Thomas Brooks
I was embarrassed by my perceived spiritual weakness, my sickness of the soul, my diseased moral character. ~ Melody Moezzi
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Melody Moezzi
If I'm not around
I hope you'll remember me
and together we will hold on to our favorite song. ~ Sanober Khan
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Sanober Khan
Desire, Believe, Receive! ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
I am a more disinterested Ginsberg admirer than Eddie is. Eddie, so to speak, comes to the table with a croupier's rake. He works for the house. He skims from poetry. ~ Saul Bellow
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Saul Bellow
History, at least in its ideal state of perfection, is a compound of poetry and philosophy. ~ Nathan Rothschild, 1st Baron Rothschild
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Nathan Rothschild, 1st Baron Rothschild
In our process of spiritual maturity, our faith needs to attain bigger dimensions ~ Sunday Adelaja
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Sunday Adelaja
Documentary is, therefore, an approach, which makes use of the artistic faculties to give vivification to fact - to use Walt Whitman's definition of the place of poetry in the modern world. ~ Beaumont Newhall
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Beaumont Newhall
Sometimes it seems like everything's changing;
my whole world is rearranging. ~ Amanda Leigh
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Amanda Leigh
For more than twenty-five years my mind had been deeply troubled by the fact that these mechanical and scientific achievements ofman had outrun his intellectual and spiritual power ... Throughout the Second World War this terrible problem hung in the back of my mind. As I write these words the problem and the danger are as threatening as ever. We hope our nation will survive, but in its effort to survive will it transform itself intellectually and spiritually into the image of the thing against which we fought? ~ Virginia Gildersleeve
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Virginia Gildersleeve
I want to hear her laugh.

To watch sunbeams awaken her visage and shine through her eyes. To see the gray clouds of regret that hang heavy over her head rain away to nothing.

I want to hear her sunny voice dance on the breeze, as light and free as glossy bubbles, floating up…up…up to pop like hiccups. I want to know the type and form of key I must cut to unshackle even a portion of her joy.

If I could pluck the winning feather; if my smile could convince; if I could stroke her vocal chords like harp strings and make each treble note ascend to euphoria. Oh, to hear the giggled melody she would release into a world craving the balm of mirth!
I ache to experience that. I am desperate for it.

I live for the day I hear her laugh. ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
Whom boasts about his happiness, cause doesn't got it! ~ Miguel El Portugues
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Miguel El Portugues
Poetry has historically been allied with religion and morals; it has served the purpose of penetrating the mysterious depths of things. ~ John Dewey
Spiritual Poetry quotes by John Dewey
Women know what men have long forgotten. The ultimate economic and spiritual unit of any civilization is still the family. ~ Clare Boothe Luce
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Clare Boothe Luce
May you overflow with love, hope and joy of knowing the Saviour. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
I published only in academic journals in philosophy until I was in my 40s, but I had been writing fiction and poetry my whole adult life - without ever once trying to publish it, and rarely letting anyone read it. ~ Cheryl Mendelson
Spiritual Poetry quotes by Cheryl Mendelson
A penny for your thoughts? Many of us devalue the power of our thoughts. We fail to fully comprehend that our thoughts are highly influential things that have the power to shape our very lives. Our greatest and smallest achievements all begin with a simple thought. A thought can shape our minds, our emotions, our bodies and ultimately our circumstances. Our thoughts have a huge bearing on our health, our relationships, our spiritual well being, right along with our successes and failures. Our thoughts are valuable commodities that have spiritual influences that attract blessings as well as misfortune. As "mystical" as it may sound, the old adage "What we think about…We bring about!" is absolutely true. Negative thoughts spawn negative results, positive thoughts spawn positive results. Again, God's Word gives us perfect advice on how we should think. Philippians 4:8 says "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." If we do I promise you…there will be no currency, on this earth, great enough to purchase our thoughts. ~Jason Versey ~ Jason Versey
