Many of our soldiers are stationed at Camp Coyote just south of the Iraqi border. This is how you know we have a strong army, when you can actually tell your enemy exactly where your camp is and what its name is. ~ Jon Stewart
Soldiers Army quotes by Jon Stewart
If our soldiers are not overburdened with money, it is not because they have a distaste for riches; if their lives are not unduly long, it is not because they are disinclined to longevity. ~ Sun Tzu
Soldiers Army quotes by Sun Tzu
An army without discipline is worse than an army without soldiers. ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
Soldiers Army quotes by Mehmet Murat Ildan
In Iraq and Afghanistan, our soldiers signed up intentionally. That's a huge difference from the largely conscripted army of my era. ~ Tim O'Brien
Soldiers Army quotes by Tim O'Brien
An army of principles can penetrate where an army of soldiers cannot. ~ Thomas Paine
Soldiers Army quotes by Thomas Paine
A barracks is meant to be a place where real soldiers were to be fed and equipped for war, not a place to settle down in or as a comfortable snuggery in which to enjoy ourselves. I hope that if ever they, our soldiers, do settle down God will burn their barracks over their heads! ~ Catherine Booth
Soldiers Army quotes by Catherine Booth
There is such an equality among them that the officers have no authority. The privates are all generals, but not soldiers. ~ Bernard Law Montgomery
Soldiers Army quotes by Bernard Law Montgomery
(From Danielle Raver's short story THE ENCHANTRESS)
Thick chains attached to the wall hold a metal collar and belt, restraining most of the tiger's movements. Open, bloody slashes cover his face and back, but he shows no loss of strength as he pulls on the chains and tries to rip the flesh of the surrounding humans with his deadly claws. Out of his reach, I kneel down before him, and his lightning-blue eyes cross my space for a moment.

"Get her out of there!" I hear from behind me.

"Numnerai," I speak urgently to the tiger. "They will kill you!"

He growls and gnashes his teeth, but I sense he is responding to me.

"Great white tiger, your duty is to protect the prince. But how can you do that if they sink the end of a spear into your heart?" He looks at me for a longer moment. The fighters respond to this by growing still. In their desperation, they are overlooking my foolishness for a chance to save their fellows' lives. I crouch on my feet and begin to nudge closer to him. The tiger growls a warning, but does not slash out at me. "Think of the prince, protector of the palace. Right now he prays for you to live. ~ D.M. Raver
Soldiers Army quotes by D.M. Raver
In the army of indigence the uniform is rags; they serve to distinguish the rank and file from the recruiting officers. ~ Ambrose Bierce
Soldiers Army quotes by Ambrose Bierce
Every time we killed a thousand Bugs at a cost of one M.I. it was a net victory for the Bugs. We were learning, expensively, just how efficient a total communism can be when used by a people actually adapted to it by evolution; the Bug commisars didn't care any more about expending soldiers than we cared about expending ammo. Perhaps we could have figured this out about the Bugs by noting the grief the Chinese Hegemony gave the Russo-Anglo-American Alliance; however the trouble with 'lessons from history' is that we usually read them best after falling flat on our chins. ~ Robert A. Heinlein
Soldiers Army quotes by Robert A. Heinlein
There is no category of human activity in which the dead do not outnumber the living many times over. Most beautiful children are dead. Most soldiers, most cowards. The fairest women and the most learned men - all are dead. ~ Gene Wolfe
Soldiers Army quotes by Gene Wolfe
To replace the old paradigm of war with a new paradigm of waging peace, we must be pioneers who can push the boundaries of human understanding. We must be doctors who can cure the virus of violence. We must be soldiers of peace who can do more than preach to the choir. And we must be artists who will make the world our masterpiece. ~ Paul K. Chappell
Soldiers Army quotes by Paul K. Chappell
So before and during the war, the Bush administration had to build up an image in people's minds of Iraq as a monstrous military superpower, in order to mobilize enough popular hysteria so that people here would go along with their policies. And again, the media did their job 100 percent. So I don't know how well you remember what was going on around the country back then, but people were literally quaking in their boots about the extraordinary might of Iraq―it was a superpower with artillery we'd never dreamt of, all this kind of stuff.93 I mean, this was a defenseless Third World country that was so weak it had been unable to defeat post-revolutionary Iran in eight years of warfare [from 1980 to '88]―and that was with the support of the United States, the Soviet Union, all of Europe, the Arab oil countries: not an inconsiderable segment of world power. Yet with all those allies, Iraq had been unable to defeat post-revolutionary Iran, which had killed off its own officers' corps and barely had an army left: all of a sudden this was the superpower that was going to conquer the world? You really had to be a deeply brainwashed Western intellectual even to look at this image―a defenseless Third World country threatening the two most advanced military forces in the world, the United States and Britain―and not completely collapse in ridicule. But as you recall, that's what all of them were saying―and people here really believed it. ~ Noam Chomsky
Soldiers Army quotes by Noam Chomsky
Radical Islamists are serious about killing in pursuit of their extreme objectives. Releasing their soldiers can only embolden them to take more Americans hostage. The deal for Sgt. Bergdahl may well turn out to have been a bargain with the devil. ~ Cal Thomas
Soldiers Army quotes by Cal Thomas
War's never a picnic. Although obviously soldiers do end up eating outdoors quite a lot. ~ David Mitchell
Soldiers Army quotes by David Mitchell
Contempt for one's own comrades, for the troops of the enemy, and, above all, fierce contempt for one's own person, are what war demands of everyone. Far better is it for an army to be too savage, too cruel, too barbarous, than to possess too much sentimentality and human reasonableness. ~ William James
Soldiers Army quotes by William James
I was most impressed with the professionalism of our soldiers stationed there, and I am now more confident than ever that that the operations at Guantanamo are being conducted in a humane and necessary manner. ~ Jim Ryun
Soldiers Army quotes by Jim Ryun
The belief that complex systems require armies of designers and programmers is wrong. A system that is not understood in its entirety, or at least to a significant degree of detail by a single individual, should probably not be built. ~ Niklaus Wirth
Soldiers Army quotes by Niklaus Wirth
To estimate the value of Newton's discoveries, or the delight communicated by Shakespeare and Milton, by the price at which their works have sold, would be but a poor measure of the degree in which they have elevated and enchanted their country; nor would it be less grovelling and incongruous to estimate the benefit which the country has derived from the Revolution of 1688, by the pay of the soldiers, and all other payments concerned in effecting it. ~ Thomas Malthus
Soldiers Army quotes by Thomas Malthus
The United States has been ambiguous on the current situation in Nepal. They have not actually come out very strongly in terms of pushing the king to take measures on the detentions or abuses by the army. China continues to provide military equipment. ~ Irene Khan
Soldiers Army quotes by Irene Khan
Farmers and soldiers knew about the weather. Weather could be the great determiner between failure and success, the great test of one's staying power. ~ David McCullough
Soldiers Army quotes by David McCullough
When evil strives to overcome good, when firepower is greater than the spoken word, then death rides a winged horse. ~ British Army Parachute Regiment
Soldiers Army quotes by British Army Parachute Regiment
"that moment ... that moment out there?" Blake pointed at the bed of army jacket, grass, and mint. "I've pictured it in my head for months. Months! I knew it would never really happen, but it kept me going. The beautiful, smiling girl would look at me like a man-a man worthy of her body, worthy of her kisses. Do you realize what a fool I am for hoping?" ~ Debra Anastasia
Soldiers Army quotes by Debra Anastasia
You will leave as soon as our meeting concludes. Right under his nose. And when you return, you will praise him."
Gauri balked. "Praise him? He did nothing!"
"You would do well to learn how to play the games of court," I said. "Sometimes an illusion is just as good as the actual thing. The difference lies in the telling. Make this one concession. Find out what happens next. If you bring back these soldiers and word gets out that it was your idea and your escape, he may punish them on your behalf."
Gauri considered me. "What are you?"
"A maybe-false queen!" butted in Kamala.
It must have come out as another deranged horse whinny because Gauri nearly jumped.
"I told you," I said, not meeting her gaze. "I'm a person who lived here once upon a time."
"You know far too much about the political schemes of Bharata."
"My father was a diplomat."
"No, he wasn't! No, he wasn't!" sang Kamala. "Lies are fun. Lies are nice. They taste like rice soaked in milk and sliced and diced with cardamom and--"
"Is your horse ill?" asked Gauri.
"No, not at all," I said and smacked Kamala on her flank. "She's eager."
"For blood," said Kamala. ~ Roshani Chokshi
Soldiers Army quotes by Roshani Chokshi
I despised myself for my weakness. I may have dreamed all my youth of life as a horse-trader like my father; I may have railed against my conscription and loathed the legions on principle, but even so, every morning in this place I cursed my lack of valour and every night, when I slept, my traitorous
mind brought me dreams drenched in the blood of our enemies as my comrades in the Vth launched themselves into battle, taking risks, winning glory, rising in the ranks, killing the enemy and so becoming men ... all without my being there.
The fact that it was winter, when the weather forced a kind of peace on both sides, and that my comrades were currently enduring endless forced marches over the mountains in western Armenia because their general had deemed them unfit for battle, did nothing to hamper my fantasies. ~ M.C. Scott
Soldiers Army quotes by M.C. Scott
The powers know that the people at large are like children whose despair, sorrow, and tears can be turned into joy with a little toy ... An army and navy represents the people's toys. ~ Emma Goldman
Soldiers Army quotes by Emma Goldman
A clever general ... avoids an army when its spirit is keen, but attacks it when it is sluggish and inclined to return. This is the art of studying moods. Disciplined and calm, he awaits the appearance of disorder and hubbub among the enemy. This is the art of retaining self-possession. ~ Sun Tzu
Soldiers Army quotes by Sun Tzu
My grandmother on my father's side, a nightclub singer, was a Jewish refugee from Prussia who ended up in Jerusalem, where she met my grandfather - a British army officer. I remember as a child having bowls of chicken soup made by her. There were lots of interesting components, like feet and necks. ~ Jamie Cullum
Soldiers Army quotes by Jamie Cullum
If Lord Duryodhana was an evil man, why did great men like Bhishma, Drona, Kripa, Karna, entire army of Krishna fight war on his side?? ~ Anand Neelakantan
Soldiers Army quotes by Anand Neelakantan
He doesn't stop talking for most of the three-hour flight about his time in "'Nam." Finally the conversation slows, and I ask him what he's done since leaving the army.

He sums it up in three words: "I'm in insurance."

And that's it. That's all he has to say about the following forty years.

I think I may be in a similar situation with the whole marriage bit. Three words: "I got married. ~ Rick Springfield
Soldiers Army quotes by Rick Springfield
This isn't an army marching on the Mists. This isn't a case you have to solve. It's just a bunch of nobles coming to puff their chests out at each other an try to look important. Do what I do. Bring popcorn. ~ Seanan McGuire
Soldiers Army quotes by Seanan McGuire
By altering his arrangements and changing his plans, the skillful general keeps the enemy without definite knowledge. By shifting his camp and taking circuitous routes, he prevents the enemy from anticipating his purpose. At the critical moment, the leader of an army acts like one who has climbed up a height and then kicks away the ladder behind him. ~ Sun Tzu
Soldiers Army quotes by Sun Tzu
For a mile up and down the open fields before us the splendid lines of the veterans of the Army of Northern Virginia swept down upon us. Their bearing was magnificent. They came forward with a rush, and how our men did yell, 'Come on, Johnny, come on!' ~ Rufus Dawes
Soldiers Army quotes by Rufus Dawes
We had fancied our task would be different, only to find we were to be trained for heroism as though we were circus-ponies. But we soon accustomed ourselves to it. We learned in fact that some of these things were necessary, but the rest merely show. Soldiers have a fine nose for such distinctions. ~ Erich Maria Remarque
Soldiers Army quotes by Erich Maria Remarque
Yeah. Floyd is his batman."
His what?"
Batman, like in the British army, each officer had a batman, a personal servant."
You spend too much time reading, Spenser. You know more stuff that don't make you money than anybody I know. ~ Robert B. Parker
Soldiers Army quotes by Robert B. Parker
By day certainly the combatants have a clearer notion, though even then by no means of all that takes place, no one knowing much of anything that does not does not go on in his own immediate neighborhood; but in a night engagement ( and this was the only one that occurred between great armies during the war) how could anyone know anything for certain? ~ Thucydides
Soldiers Army quotes by Thucydides
