The art of appreciation begins with self appreciation. ~ Amit Abraham
Smothering Art quotes by Amit Abraham
Alright. Let's get realistic now. You know and I know that the function of that number was just to provide some sort of warm-up trash before we do something HEAVY. Something a little bit harder to listen to, but which is probably better for you in the LONG RUN. The item in this instance, which will be better for you in the LONG RUN, and if we only had a little more space up here we could make it visual for you, is "Some Ballet Music," which we've played at most of our concert series in Europe. Generally in halls where we had a little bit more space and Motorhead and Kansas could actually fling themselves across the stage, and give you their teenage interpretation of the art of The Ballet. I don't think it's too safe to do it here, maybe they can just hug each other a little bit and do some calisthenics in the middle of the stage. ~ Frank Zappa
Smothering Art quotes by Frank Zappa
We're making tin gods out of those poor buffoons in Hollywood; I dote on movies and appreciate the scanty art therein but I consider the profession about the most debased and debasing I know. ~ Robert E. Howard
Smothering Art quotes by Robert E. Howard
There are two generic and invariable features that characterize utopias. One is the content: the authors of utopias paint what they consider to be ideal societies; translating this into the language of mathematics, we might say that utopias bear a + sign. The other feature, organically growing out of the content, is to be found in the form: a utopia is always static; it is always descriptive and has no, of almost no, plot dynamics. ~ Yevgeny Zamyatin
Smothering Art quotes by Yevgeny Zamyatin
Before, I could only guess oh who I was. Now, thanks to my art, I know who I am. ~ Luhraw
Smothering Art quotes by Luhraw
Say a prayer for the pretender, who started out so young and strong only to surrender. ~ Jackson Browne
Smothering Art quotes by Jackson Browne
The art of love is like your painting, it requires technique, patience, and above all, practice by the couple. It requires boldness, the courage to go beyond what people conventionally call making love. ~ Paulo Coelho
Smothering Art quotes by Paulo Coelho
Simon had perfected the art of seeing what he wanted to see, because it's easier to go through life like that, to see the world as a series of familiar things, a place where everyone feels how you feel and sees what you see. ~ Catherine Lacey
Smothering Art quotes by Catherine Lacey
Give royal treatment to your original magic effects, because one of the effects might make you the king of magic. ~ Amit Kalantri
Smothering Art quotes by Amit Kalantri
Creating any type of art is all about mood. I've been making extreme music in one fashion or another for decades. And truthfully, Down has a big enough fan base to where I could remain content to do only that, but music is a vast territory and I am an explorer. And I'm a lover of all things considered extreme in music. ~ Phil Anselmo
Smothering Art quotes by Phil Anselmo
And often he who has chosen the fate of the artist because he felt himself to be different soon realizes that he can maintain neither his art nor his difference unless he admits that he is like the others. The artist forges himself to the others, midway between the beauty he cannot do without and the community he cannot tear himself away from. ~ Albert Camus
Smothering Art quotes by Albert Camus
I've always sought to express a tension in form and meaning in order to achieve a veracity. I have come to the conclusion that the art world has to join us, women artists, not we join it. When women are in leadership roles and gain rewards and recognition, then perhaps 'we' (women and men) can all work together in art world actions. ~ Nancy Spero
Smothering Art quotes by Nancy Spero
Painting is ... a correspondence between what you are and what you see. It's a moment when something is holding together in such a way that it is a universe in itself ... Within this is a test and also a judgment upon yourself, your capabilities, your promises, and the part that you play in the world. And nobody else can test that for you. Certainly not the Museum of Modern Art. ~ Milton Resnick
Smothering Art quotes by Milton Resnick
Character and intelligence are the poles you talent spins on, displaying your gifts. ~ Baltasar Gracian
Smothering Art quotes by Baltasar Gracian
The passions are the only orators that always persuade: they are, as it were, a natural art, the rules of which are infallible; and the simplest man with passion is more persuasive than the most eloquent without it. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Smothering Art quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
The foreground in a picture is always unattractive ... Art demands that the interest of the canvas should be placed in the far distance, where lies take refuge, those dreams which blossom out of fact and are man's only love. ~ Louis Ferdinand Celine
Smothering Art quotes by Louis Ferdinand Celine
Art is the giving by each man of his evidence to the world. Those who wish to give, love to give, discover the pleasure of giving. Those who give are tremendously strong. ~ Robert Henri
Smothering Art quotes by Robert Henri
Art is meant to disturb. Science reassures. ~ Georges Braque
Smothering Art quotes by Georges Braque
The real difference between God and human beings, he thought, was that God cannot stand continuance. No sooner has he created a season of a year, or a time of the day, than he wishes for something quite different, and sweeps it all away. No sooner was one a young man, and happy at that, than the nature of things would rush one into marriage, martyrdom or old age. And human beings cleave to the existing state of things. All their lives they are striving to hold the moment fast ... Their art itself is nothing but the attempt to catch by all means the one particular moment, one light, the momentary beauty of one woman or one flower, and make it everlasting. ~ Karen Blixen
Smothering Art quotes by Karen Blixen
In an era when letter writing is a diminished art, we have an opportunity to share this historical and literary treasure trove in The Selected Letters of Laura Ingalls Wilder. This book is both a reminder of a bygone era of genuine communication and another visit with Laura Ingalls Wilder, pioneer and author. ~ William Anderson
Smothering Art quotes by William Anderson
You are a walking litany of imaginary flaws
- Frankie to Ella, pg 296 The Fine Art of Truth or Dare ~ Melissa Jensen
Smothering Art quotes by Melissa Jensen
And can you mention any pursuit of mankind in which the male sex has not all these gifts and qualities in a higher degree than the female? Need I waste time in speaking of the art of weaving, and the management of pancakes and preserves, in which womankind does really appear to be great, and in which for her to be beaten by a man is of all things the most absurd? You are quite right, he replied, in maintaining the general inferiority of the female sex: although many women are in many things superior to many men, yet on the whole what you say is true. And ~ Plato
Smothering Art quotes by Plato
A battle that you win cancels any other bad action of yours. In the same way, by losing one, all the good things worked by you before become vain. ~ Niccolo Machiavelli
Smothering Art quotes by Niccolo Machiavelli
Such discussions help us very little to enjoy what has been well done in art or poetry, to discriminate between what is more and what is less excellent in them, or to use words like beauty, excellence, art, poetry, with a more precise meaning than they would otherwise have. ~ Walter Pater
Smothering Art quotes by Walter Pater
Life is like art - it is all about interpretation. ~ Robert Holden
Smothering Art quotes by Robert Holden
I can't bear art that you can walk round and admire. A book should be either a bandit or a rebel or a man in the crowd. ~ D.H. Lawrence
Smothering Art quotes by D.H. Lawrence
I often wonder how different the world would be if Hitler had not been turned down when he applied to art school. ~ George Carlin
Smothering Art quotes by George Carlin
Laying aside also all considerations of works and engines of war, the invention of which has long since reached its limit, and for the improvement of which I see no further hope in the applied arts, I shall recognize the following types of stratagems connected with siege operations ... ~ Frontinus
Smothering Art quotes by Frontinus
All artists are willing to suffer for their work. But why are so few prepared
to learn to draw? ~ Banksy
Smothering Art quotes by Banksy
The only acceptable hobby, throughout all stages of life, is cookery. As a child: adorable baked items. Twenties: much appreciated spag bol and fry-ups. Thirties and forties: lovely stuff with butternut squash and chorizo from the Guardian food section. Fifties and sixties: beef wellington from the Sunday Telegraph magazine. Seventies and eighties: back to the adorable baked items. Perfect. The only teeny tiny downside of this hobby is that I HATE COOKING.
Don't get me wrong; I absolutely adore the eating of the food. It's just the awful boring, frightening putting together of it that makes me want to shove my own fists in my mouth. It's a lovely idea: follow the recipe and you'll end up with something exactly like the pretty picture in the book, only even more delicious. But the reality's rather different. Within fifteen minutes of embarking on a dish I generally find myself in tears in the middle of what appears to be a bombsite, looking like a mentally unstable art teacher in a butter-splattered apron, wondering a) just how I am supposed to get hold of a thimble and a half of FairTrade hazelnut oil (why is there always the one impossible-to-find recipe ingredient? Sesame paste, anyone?) and b) just how I managed to get flour through two closed doors onto the living-room curtains, when I don't recall having used any flour and oh-this-is-terrible-let's-just-go-out-and-get-a-Wagamama's-and-to-hell-with-the-cost, dammit. ~ Miranda Hart
Smothering Art quotes by Miranda Hart
The artist and the mother are vehicles, not originators. They don't create the new life, they only bear it. This is why birth is such a humbling experience. The new mom weeps in awe at the little miracle in her arms. She knows it came out of her but not from her, through her but not of her. ~ Steven Pressfield
Smothering Art quotes by Steven Pressfield
You gotta have style. It helps you get down the stairs. It helps you get up in the morning. It's a way of life. Without it, you're nobody. ~ Diana Vreeland
Smothering Art quotes by Diana Vreeland
It is unhappily true that much insincere Literature and Art, executed solely with a view to effect, does succeed by deceiving the public. ~ George Henry Lewes
Smothering Art quotes by George Henry Lewes
You have everything within you to do great things in this world. Maybe, you are inspired to sing a song, write a book or poems, create art in various forms. Or you may decide to find a cure for disease, end world hunger, prevent abuse, or take a stand politically. The question is how to begin the process of fulfilling your vision. Start where you are and use the resources you have to build from there. Inspiration is what motivates you to achieve your remarkable ideas. Also it takes time and dedication to excel to the next level. ~ Amaka Imani Nkosazana
Smothering Art quotes by Amaka Imani Nkosazana
After all, the goal is not making art. It is living a life. Those who live their lives will leave the stuff that is really art. ~ Robert Henri
Smothering Art quotes by Robert Henri
All of nature is God's art. ~ Dante Alighieri
Smothering Art quotes by Dante Alighieri
To establish yourself as a leading man, you're shooting for the smallest point on the target, and you get a lot of judgment thrown at you. It takes a lot for them to get past everything and just watch your art and what you're doing. ~ Josh Holloway
Smothering Art quotes by Josh Holloway
Regarding speculative matters that are of no practical moment, and followed by no consequences to himself, farther, perhaps, than that they foster his vanity the better the more remote they are from common sense; requiring, as they must in this case, the exercise of greater ingenuity and art to render them probable. ~ Rene Descartes
Smothering Art quotes by Rene Descartes
In visual perception a color is almost never seen as it really is - as it physically is. This fact makes color the most relative medium in art. ~ Josef Albers
Smothering Art quotes by Josef Albers
O Life! thou art a galling load,
Along a rough, a weary road,
To wretches such as I! ~ Robert Burns
Smothering Art quotes by Robert Burns
All of my art is suitcase-sized. I always paint in mediums that dry pretty quickly because I've got to throw them in my suitcase and go. And I have so much because of that, because it's what I've always done to pass the time, and I like it. ~ Alison Mosshart
Smothering Art quotes by Alison Mosshart
Art too is just a way of living. ~ Rainer Maria Rilke
