Many upscale American parents somehow think jobs like their own are part of the nation's natural order. They are not. In Europe, they have already discovered that, and many there have accepted the new small-growth, small-jobs reality. Will we? ~ Daniel Henninger
Small Jobs quotes by Daniel Henninger
Nothing is particularly hard if you divide it into small jobs ~ Henry Ford
Small Jobs quotes by Henry Ford
The moment I entered the bright, buzzing lobby of Men's House I was overcome by a sense of alienation and hostility … The lobby was the meeting place for various groups still caught up in the illusions that had just been boomeranged out of my head: college boys working to return to school down South; older advocates of racial progress with utopian schemes for building black business empires; preachers ordained by no authority except their own, without church or congregation, without bread or wine, body or blood; the community "leaders" without followers; old men of sixty or more still caught up in post-Civil War dreams of freedom within segregation; the pathetic ones who possessed noting beyond their dreams of being gentlemen, who held small jobs or drew small pensions, and all pretending to be engaged in some vast, though obscure, enterprise, who affected the pseudo-courtly manners of certain southern congressmen and bowed and nodded as they passed like senile old roosters in a barnyard; they younger crowd for whom I now felt a contempt such as only a disillusioned dreamer feels for those still unaware that they dream - the business students from southern colleges, for whom business was a vague, abstract game with rules as obsolete as Noah's Ark but who yet were drunk on finance. ~ Ralph Ellison
Small Jobs quotes by Ralph Ellison
Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves. ~ Dale Carnegie
Small Jobs quotes by Dale Carnegie
When we hire someone, even if they are going to be in marketing, I will have them talk to the design folks and the engineers. ~ Steve Jobs
Small Jobs quotes by Steve Jobs
If you wanna hire great people and have them stay working for you, you have to be run by ideas, not hierarchy. The best ideas have to win, otherwise good people don't stay. ~ Steve Jobs
Small Jobs quotes by Steve Jobs
That's point one," I said, affecting unaffectedness. "Points two through ten have to do with that ridiculous list your father made you as to how to deal with ... me."
Watson had the grace to wince. His father had given him a strange little journal into which he had compiled a list of suggestions for how to handle one's Holmes (as though I were a small-breed dog or similar), drawing not only from Dr. Watson's own accounts but also from his own efforts with my uncle Leander back when they'd been flatmates. This was absurd on many levels. Leander was very easy to live with. He hardly ever stalked around anymore with a pistol in his bathrobe pocket. ~ Brittany Cavallaro
Small Jobs quotes by Brittany Cavallaro
There are some men in this world who are born to do our unpleasant jobs for us. Your father's one of them. ~ Harper Lee
Small Jobs quotes by Harper Lee
Whatever job you take on, make yourself valuable, then indispensable. ~ Brian Tracy
Small Jobs quotes by Brian Tracy
If there be a God and one has never sought him, it will be small consolation to remember that one could not get proof of his existence. ~ George MacDonald
Small Jobs quotes by George MacDonald
I have a small house so I borrow everything except art, that's what I love. ~ Salma Hayek
Small Jobs quotes by Salma Hayek
I always say these two things: Begin the begin, and don't take anything personally. You have to start to finish! There will always be a reason not to write; find your "why" and keep it in front of you. It's also important for authors to understand that someone somewhere is going to hate their work. You aren't writing for every reader; you're writing for the right reader! All of that being said; if your right readership is really small, you need to decide you're okay with that. ~ Liv Hadden
Small Jobs quotes by Liv Hadden
Concentrate on the small things and do them well. ~ Colin Cotterill
Small Jobs quotes by Colin Cotterill
The less people know about me, the easier my job is. ~ Jack Nicholson
Small Jobs quotes by Jack Nicholson
That's when I got the first real tingle of warning. Small, but serious. The smart thing to do would have been to simply end the call. No goodbyes, no polite refusals, just hit the button, put the cell phone in the bottom drawer of my file cabinet, and go to the multiplex to watch a movie about things blowing up. Maybe get some Ben and Jerry's afterward. ~ Jonathan Maberry
Small Jobs quotes by Jonathan Maberry
Letting go of the need for perfection releases a burst of energy - and guess what - you may accidentally do a good job. ~ Anna Olson
Small Jobs quotes by Anna Olson
For you little gardener and lover of trees, I have only a small gift. Here is set G for Galadriel, but it may stand for garden in your tongue. In this box there is earth from my orchard, and such blessing as Galadriel has still to bestow is upon it. It will not keep you on your road, nor defend you against any peril; but if you keep it and see your home again at last, then perhaps it may reward you. Though you should find all barren and laid waste, there will be few gardens in Middle-earth that will bloom like your garden, if you sprinkle this earth there. Then you may remember Galadriel, and catch a glimpse far off of Lórien, that you have seen only in our winter. For our spring and our summer are gone by, and they will never be seen on earth again save in memory. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Small Jobs quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
My job is to be an artist and thus I use different media to deal with the status of the body in our society. ~ Orlan
Small Jobs quotes by Orlan
The only thing separating us from that existence rather than the one we find ourselves in is one small decision. I make wrong decisions every day. ~ Elizabeth Finn
Small Jobs quotes by Elizabeth Finn
Men should do their actual living and working in communities small enough to permit of genuine self-government and the assumption of personal responsibilities, federated into larger units in such a way that the temptation to abuse great power should not arise. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Small Jobs quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
It takes a certain kind of man to be in politics
a small one. ~ Croft M. Pentz
Small Jobs quotes by Croft M. Pentz
Patriotism is a salt against rottenness, a glorious spur to high endeavour; it recovers the half-obliterated virtue of loyalty, calls every man to service, and ennobles great and small alike. ~ Percy Dearmer
Small Jobs quotes by Percy Dearmer
I am just like you. My immediate response to most situations is with reactions of attachment, defensiveness, judgment, control, and analysis. I am better at calculating than contemplating.

Let's admit that we all start there. The False Self seems to have the "first gaze" at almost everything.

The first gaze is seldom compassionate. It is too busy weighing and feeling itself: "How will this affect me?" or "How can I get back in control of this situation?" This leads us to an implosion, a self-preoccupation that cannot enter into communion with the other or the moment. In other words, we first feel our feelings before we can relate to the situation and emotion of the other. Only after God has taught us how to live "undefended," can we immediately stand with and for the other, and in the present moment. It takes lots of practice.

On my better days, when I am "open, undefended, and immediately present," as Gerald May says, I can sometimes begin with a contemplative mind and heart. Often I can get there later and even end there, but it is usually a second gaze. The True Self seems to always be ridden and blinded by the defensive needs of the False Self. It is an hour-by-hour battle, at least for me. I can see why all spiritual traditions insist on daily prayer, in fact, morning, midday, evening, and before we go to bed, too! Otherwise, I can assume that I am back in the cruise control of small and personal self-interest, the pitiable and fragile "R ~ Richard Rohr
Small Jobs quotes by Richard Rohr
I'll start with small things. ~ Vincent Van Gogh
Small Jobs quotes by Vincent Van Gogh
People think that at the end of the day a man is the only answer. Actually, a fulfilling job is better for me. ~ Princess Diana
Small Jobs quotes by Princess Diana
Often our self-esteem is tied to our work. In our culture, men and women often define themselves by the jobs they hold ... But a person's job tells you nothing about a person's character or value. ~ Billy Graham
Small Jobs quotes by Billy Graham
I started - well, in England it works a little bit differently. You have to do Fringe theatre, which is basically free theatre. You do it in pubs and small theaters and village halls across the country, and you work for a theatre company. You're part of a troupe. ~ Joshua Sasse
Small Jobs quotes by Joshua Sasse
It was tempting to believe that if you made yourself small and light, beneath notice, you might be allowed to persist nearly anywhere. But meek women were tossed out and forgotten: that was something she had learned from Bertha Truitt herself. What women needed to do was take up space. Become unbudgeable. ~ Elizabeth McCracken
Small Jobs quotes by Elizabeth McCracken
I sometimes think that perhaps our minds are too weak to grasp joy or sorrow except in small things ... In the big things joy and sorrow are just alike - overwhelming. At least, we only get them bit by bit, in tiny flashes - in waves - that our minds can't stand for very long. p 199 ~ Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Small Jobs quotes by Anne Morrow Lindbergh
It's too late now. The game's been won by companies who don't two shits about community character or decent jobs. Congratufuckinglations, America! We did the deal. Now we've got an unlimited supply of cheap commodities and unhealthy food and crumbling downtowns, no sense of place, and a permanent under class. Yay. The underclass isn't relegated to urban ghettos either. It's coast to coast and especially in between. Take US 50 west from Kansas City to Sacramento or US 6 from Chicago to California and you'll see a couple thousand miles of corn, soybeans, and terminally ill towns. It looks like a scene from The Walking Dead. If there's such a thing as the American Heartland, it has a stake through it. ~ Finn Murphy
Small Jobs quotes by Finn Murphy
If they are the league ain't doing a good job of it. ~ LeBron James
Small Jobs quotes by LeBron James
I sit at my desk
each night with no place to go,
opening the wrinkled maps of Milwaukee and Buffalo,
the whole U.S.,
its cemeteries, its arbitrary time zones,
through routes like small veins, capitals like small stones. ~ Anne Sexton
Small Jobs quotes by Anne Sexton
The bloody red head emerged.
The white sheet turned crimson.
The infant sat up.
Unfurling soft, white feathered wings, the newborn demigoddess regarded the world around her with large, beguiling blue eyes. As if satisfied with what she saw, she seized her own umbilical cord between her small, sharp teeth and severed her tie with her mother with one, quick bite. ~ Georgina Anne Taylor
Small Jobs quotes by Georgina Anne Taylor
It is never too late to go quietly to our lakes, rivers, oceans, even our small streams, and say to the sea gulls, the great blue herons, the bald eagles, the salmon, that we are sorry. ~ Brenda Peterson
Small Jobs quotes by Brenda Peterson
Democracy is a small hard core of common agreement, surrounded by a rich variety of individual differences. ~ James Bryant Conant
Small Jobs quotes by James Bryant Conant
Climate change does not respect border; it does not respect who you are - rich and poor, small and big. Therefore, this is what we call 'global challenges,' which require global solidarity. ~ Ban Ki-moon
Small Jobs quotes by Ban Ki-moon
That was how dishonesty and betrayal started, not in big lies but in small secrets. ~ Amy Tan
Small Jobs quotes by Amy Tan
If you look at what's happened to the stock market, if you look at what's happened to housing values, if you look at what's happened to bank loan portfolios because the value of their other assets that they've already issued loans against were going down, there was a pretty good argument for trying to pass something at about this level of investment with the divisions as they were - unemployment, food stamps, and tax cuts, aid to education and healthcare, and job creation. ~ William J. Clinton
Small Jobs quotes by William J. Clinton
It doesn't matter that your painting is small. Kopecks are also small, but when a lot are put together they make a ruble. Each painting displayed in a gallery and each good book that makes it into a library, no matter how small they may be, serve a great cause: accretion of the national wealth. ~ Anton Chekhov
Small Jobs quotes by Anton Chekhov
There is a continuity in our lives - a strain of music that flows through it all, unaltered by death or pain. It is true that in the face of pain and death, we are very small. But in the face of life and memory and love, even death is very small. ~ Yael Shahar
Small Jobs quotes by Yael Shahar
Movie directors who have filmed F. Scott Fitzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby' believe it's a big book looming inside a small one, and they aren't altogether wrong. ~ Steve Erickson
Small Jobs quotes by Steve Erickson
We cannot do great deeds unless we're willing to do the small things that make up the sum of greatness. ~ Theodore Roosevelt
Small Jobs quotes by Theodore Roosevelt
Differentiation is simply a teacher attending to the learning needs of a particular student or small groups of students, rather than teaching a class as though all individuals in it were basically alike. ~ Carol Ann Tomlinson
Small Jobs quotes by Carol Ann Tomlinson
