We live in a society where people are often more offended by those who point out child abuse than by the abuse itself. In other words, society does not view abuse as the problem; the problem is you pointing it out. Society's basic mindset is that "If we don't talk about abuse, then it's not happening." Similarly, children are attacked when they point out the dysfunction around them. ~ Darius Cikanavicius
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Darius Cikanavicius
To hide is our insecurities telling God that what we fear is bigger than Who He is. And in this case, maybe we should shoot the messenger. ~ Craig D. Lounsbrough
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Craig D. Lounsbrough
The point is, when you ask, "What do you want for dinner?" we're thinking about screwing you on the kitchen counter. When you're telling us about the sappy film you watched with your girlfriends last week, we're thinking about the porno we saw on cable last night. When you show us the designer shoes you bought on sale, we're thinking how nice they would look on our shoulders.

I just thought you'd want to know. Don't shoot the messenger ~ Emma Chase
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Emma Chase
When the messenger arrives and says 'Don't shoot the messenger,' it's a good idea to be prepared to shoot the messenger, just in case. ~ Howard Tayler
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Howard Tayler
Nick could see the gun shaking in Alan's hand now, in tight, terrified spasms. "Last night we put a magician in the river," Alan said, his voice low and intense as if he was making a promise."Maybe we should send you to join him."
"You know the rules," the woman whispered. "Don't shoot the messenger."
Nick interrupted, leaning down to speak in her ear. "Do they say 'Don't cut the messenger in half with your great big sword'? ~ Sarah Rees Brennan
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Sarah Rees Brennan
You're kind of an asshole." My conviction is weak – so weak – and more wishful thinking that anything.
"You were disturbing the peace – the natural order of things, if you will – and I've been tasked with escorting you from the premises. Don't shoot the messenger. ~ Sara Ney
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Sara Ney
Dont shoot the messenger for revealing uncomfortable truths. ~ Julian Assange
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Julian Assange
The devil's spirit's trapped inside me. My soul is possessed by this devil my new name is Rain Man. So I keep conjuring (demons), sometimes I wonder where these thoughts spawn (Satan) from. I'm just relaying what the voice in my head's saying. Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just friends with the monster that's under my bed. Get along with the voices inside of my head. ~ Eminem
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Eminem
Before you shoot the messenger, it helps to get the message first. ~ Abram Gitspof
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Abram Gitspof
Do you love me, Charlie?" An easy question to answer. "Yes. God, yes." "Then promise me something." He came over and stood above her, his eyes looking down into hers. "Anything." He took her hand and placed it in the middle of his chest where she could feel the heat of his body through the cotton T-shirt he wore. "If you betray me this time, shoot me. Straight through the heart. Make sure I'm dead because I don't want to live in a world where you betray me twice. Promise me. ~ Lexi Blake
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Lexi Blake
At the very instant that you think, "I am happy," a chemical messenger translates your emotion, which has no solid existence whatever in the material world, into a bit of matter so perfectly attuned to your desire that literally every cell in your body learns of your happiness and joins in. ~ Deepak Chopra
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Deepak Chopra
Do you remember Vlek, who was such a good sheepdog that she and Jakob alone could drive a whole flock past you at the counting-post? Do you remember how Vlek grew old and sickly and could not hold down her food, and how there was no one to shoot her but you, and how you went for a walk afterwards because you did not want anyone to see you cry? ~ J.M. Coetzee
Shoot The Messenger quotes by J.M. Coetzee
One last characteristic of the memoir that is important to recognize is one which also applies to essays, and which Georg Lukacs described as "the process of judging." This may seem problematic to some, since...we connect it with 'judgmental,' often used nowadays as a derogatory word. But the kind of judgment necessary to the good personal essay, or to the memoir, is not that nasty tendency to oversimplify and dismiss other people out of hand but rather the willingness to form and express complex opinions, both positive and negative.

If the charm of memoir is that we, the readers, see the author struggling to understand her past, then we must also see the author trying out opinions she may later shoot down, only to try out others as she takes a position about the meaning of her story. The memoirist need not necessarily know what she thinks about her subject but she must be trying to find out; she may never arrive at a definitive verdict, but she must be willing to share her intellectual and emotional quest for answers. Without this attempt to make a judgment, the voice lacks interest, the stories, becalmed in the doldrums of neutrality, become neither fiction nor memoir, and the reader loses respect for the writer who claims the privilege of being the hero in her own story without meeting her responsibility to pursue meaning. Self revelation without analysis or understanding becomes merely an embarrassment to both reader and writer. ~ Judith Barrington
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Judith Barrington
Ella finished her burger and dug into a side of fries. Hi watched, enraptured.
She couldn't help but notice. "Would you like one?"
"What? Sure." Hi smiled, made no move.
After a moment, Ella nudged the bowl his way. "Careful, they're still hot."
"Oh, no problem." Hi fumbled for a fry. "I like food that's hot."
I caught Shelton slowly shaking his head.
"Oh, shoot!" Ella winced. "I forgot to stop by the office. My mother had to drop off my shin guards." She slid her fries over to Hi. "Enjoy. They're hot, which apparently you like."
"Got that right. Hot hot hot!" Hi awkwardly shoved another fry into his mouth.
"Okay, wow." Ella gathered her things, then brushed my cheek with a kiss. "Later, Tor." Shouldering her bag, she hurried from the cafeteria.
A loud thunk drew my attention back to the table.
Hi's forehead was resting on his tray. "Tell me that wasn't as bad as I think."
"Worse," Shelton said. "So, so much worse."
Then head rose, then thunked back down. "I don't remember parts. I think I lost time."
I patted his shoulder. "That's probably for the best."
"Such." Thunk. "A." Thunk. "Dumbass." Thunk.
Shelton laughed nervously. "See? That's why I don't talk."
Hi's face shot up. "Tell her I have brain seizures. A serious medical condition. Or that I have an evil twin who sometimes takes my place, but can't talk for crap."
"Got it," I promised. His head dropped once more. ~ Kathy Reichs
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Kathy Reichs
In crises of this sort the Dyckmanns had usually found it effective to stare into space, encouraging the long pause that might fetch the witty words, 'Well, dear, we must go.' But the Bairds were on an entirely different wavelength, and this was the fault of the Dyckmanns. With the removal of the bottles it had been the mutual impulse of the Bairds to shoot out the door, but their second thought was that they must not... (from "Dinner on the Rocks" (1954) by Dawn Powell) ~ Diana Secker Tesdell
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Diana Secker Tesdell
When I shoot I'll take my family with me - one movie a year and then the rest of the time at home. ~ Eric Bana
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Eric Bana
It's called the pump, people - you got to experience it; it's one of the better highs in life, you don't need to shoot up for it, you don't need to snort it. All you got to do is sweat for it. ~ Greg Plitt
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Greg Plitt
With comedy, you never know until you put it in front of an audience. You shoot it and a year later you have no idea if it's going to work. And then you get the response. It's great when it's good. ~ Steve Martin
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Steve Martin
One of the first things every trainee is taught is that an FBI agent only shoots to kill. The thinking that went into this policy is both rigorous and logical: if you draw your weapon, you have already made the decision to shoot. And if you have made the decision that the situation is serious enough to warrant shooting, you have decided it is serious enough to take a life. ~ John E. Douglas
Shoot The Messenger quotes by John E. Douglas
There's a script, then you're going to shoot the script and then you cut that and then that's the end of the film. And that's never really been how I've seen it. ~ Paul Greengrass
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Paul Greengrass
My idol was Marilyn Monroe, who was a size 16, I think, and curvy in all the right places. I will never be stick thin. I remember a shoot where I had to get into these tiny hot pants, and I thought, 'God, I wish I hadn't eaten.' ~ Katherine Jenkins
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Katherine Jenkins
It's hard when you see a scene where it's raining, and we have the rain machine, and you see it for 5 minutes, but that scene takes all day to shoot, and you do it with rain, and the dry off, and go back and do it again. ~ Morris Chestnut
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Morris Chestnut
The duck swallows the worm, the fox kills the duck, the men shoot the fox, and the devil hunts the men. ~ Ken Follett
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Ken Follett
Yeah," said George. "I'll come. But listen, Curley. The poor bastard's nuts. Don't shoot 'im. He di'n't know what he was doin'. ~ John Steinbeck
Shoot The Messenger quotes by John Steinbeck
He's a moron being an asshole. You don't shoot people for being assholes, or the human race would be extinct. ~ L.S. Hawker
Shoot The Messenger quotes by L.S. Hawker
The fool says 'I never intended to kill. I meant only to wound.' But I tell you that if you prick a finger with a poisoned thorn you may not claim innocence when the heart dies. Do not plant a weed and pretend surprise when it grows to strangle your garden. For, I tell you that hate is to kill, for from hatred grows death as surely as life grows from love. Therefore do not nurture hatred, but love, even for those who hate you in return. Hatred wins many battles, and yet love will triumph. ~ Michael Grant
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Michael Grant
The Daimons could, in theory, shoot you until you're too weakened to fight them and then behead you. (Celena)
Want to put a cone around my head like a dog to make sure they can't decapitate me while we're at it? (Rafael) ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
He drank a good deal at times. But the alcohol did not seem to affect him. His stony expression never changed. But sometimes a strange, flashing glance from his cold eyes would rest upon Anna, full of some burning fierceness that was like hatred, and he would force her to drink with him, force her to swallow a little glassful of fiery spirit at a single gulp.
'I ought to shoot you, really,' he said to her once, in a dead voice. 'Conscientiously, it would be the best thing for me to do.'
She saw from the grave concentration on his face that his conscience did actually require him to kill her. And this puzzled her because she could not understand why her death should be a conscientious necessity. The thought of being shot did not seem to cause her any concern. ~ Anna Kavan
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Anna Kavan
The Emperor of China once sent a messenger to the wise man Lao-tsu to ask how he should rule the kingdom. Lao-tsu replied that he should rule the kingdom in the way you would cook a small fish. How do you cook a small fish? In the steady, cautious, caring way you undress a woman. ~ Chloe Thurlow
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Chloe Thurlow
A'isha asked him: 'Does one come to Paradise only by the mercy of Allah?' He repeated three times over: 'No one comes to Paradise except by the mercy of Allah!' 'Not even you. Messenger of Allah?' she asked. 'Not even I, unless Allah enfolds me in His mercy. ~ Anonymous

His friends liked to hunt. Sometimes I went along."
"And here I thought you only fired at people," Celia called over from the other side of him.
"I rarely need to shoot in the course of performing my duties. But I do have to use my pistol occasionally." He slanted a glance at her. "Unlike you, my lady, I don't carry mine for show."
Her cheeks pinked, but she merely sniffed and halted to reload again. So did he.
He probably should stop tormenting her about her damned pocket pistol, but it still shook him. Powder or no powder, such a weapon could easily provoke a man to attack her.
Still, Jackson admitted that it probably wouldn't have that effect on this lot. They didn't seem the bullying sort, just the coax-a-woman-into-their-bed sort. ~ Sabrina Jeffries
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Sabrina Jeffries
It is not the least bit coincidental that adults who commit suicide with firearms nearly always shoot themselves in ... the head. And the truth is that most of these suicides are actually dead long before they pull the trigger. ~ David Foster Wallace
Shoot The Messenger quotes by David Foster Wallace
There are guys who want to shoot the last shot and others who want to pass off. I want that last shot. ~ Lawrence Taylor

Shahara-"
"Zzzt," she said, holding her hand up. "Wasting time here. I won't even hear it. You go. I go. It's my sister's life on the line and I out-shoot and am pretty sure I outfight you, too." "I think we came up pretty even on that score." "But I am the better shot." He gave her a grudging glare. "I concede. However, I think I can take you when I'm sober." She took the bottle out of his hand. "Good. I'm going to throw this out." "Uh!" He reached for it. Shahara danced away from him and had the bottle upside down in the sink before he could catch her. He tried to get it out of her hands, but it was too late. "You are an evil, mean woman."

-Syn & Shahara ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
One day I was standing with my stage manager, Sandy Prudden, and Buddy Sheffield watching as Kermit the Frog (with the help of the late Jim Henson) sweetly sang a song. Sandy was always a big joker. He sidled up to me and said, "Isn't it amazing the way Kermit can sing like that with somebody's hand up his ass." Without missing a beat, I came back with, "Shoot, that ain't nothin'. I did that for seven years on the 'The Porter Wagoner Show. ~ Dolly Parton
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Dolly Parton
If you shoot with a billion cameras, then there's no perspective. You want to use one shot at a time, so it's better to discover what that is before you shoot, rather than trying to make something in the cutting room, and then it just becomes generic. ~ Roger Deakins
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Roger Deakins
So, Mr. Grady, how did you find yourself in the FBI?" ( ... )
Ty gave her a charming smile. "The Marines didn't want me, and it's hard to find a job where you can shoot things without getting arrested. ~ Abigail Roux
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Abigail Roux
I would have let you shoot me without further ado! But it is not possible to hang the German Reichsmarschall! I cannot permit this ... I have no moral obligation to submit to the justice of my enemies. I have therefore chosen the manner of death of the great Hannibal. ~ Hermann Goring
Shoot The Messenger quotes by Hermann Goring
You know, that's the reality, but I always shoot movies for the screen, because that's just the experience that I want to get out of it. ~ Alex Winter
