This self-obsession is a waste of living. It could be spent on surviving things, appreciating nature, nurturing kindness and friendship, and dancing. ~ Tilda Swinton
Self Obsession quotes by Tilda Swinton
We can pray for a shot at having a life in which we are present and awake and paying attention and being kind to ourselves. We can pray, "Hello? Is there anyone there?" We can pray, "Am I too far gone, or can you help me get out of my isolated self-obsession?" We can say anything to God. It's all prayer. ~ Anne Lamott
Self Obsession quotes by Anne Lamott
My significant other right now is myself, which is what happens when you suffer from multiple personality disorder and self-obsession. ~ Joaquin Phoenix
Self Obsession quotes by Joaquin Phoenix
Not the free individual but the lost individual; not Independence but isolation; not self-discovery but self-obsession; not the conquer but to be conquered; these are major states of mind in contemporary imaginative literature. ~ Robert A. Nisbet
Self Obsession quotes by Robert A. Nisbet
Wisdom means that it gives you detachment, detachment from all that is selfishness, self-centredness, self-obsession, ego - all connected with self. ~ Nirmala Srivastava
Self Obsession quotes by Nirmala Srivastava
,,, let go of the real source of our unhappiness: our own self-obsession. Stress, loneliness, pessimism, financial worries, and unhappy relationships all have one thing in common: they're all about "me". ~ David Michie
Self Obsession quotes by David Michie
Every time feels like my first time. And I just find that the process of it feeds into one's own self-obsession. ~ Ben Harper
Self Obsession quotes by Ben Harper
Cannot put a finger on what precedes the other, bachelor/spinsterhood or self-obsession. ~ Sandeep Sahajpal
Self Obsession quotes by Sandeep Sahajpal
I can understand that people want to feel special and important and so on, but that self-obsession seems a bit pathetic somehow. Not being able to accept that you're just this collection of cells, intelligent to whatever degree, capable of feeling emotion to whatever degree, for a limited amount of time and so on, on this tiny little rock orbiting this not particularly important sun in one of just 400m galaxies, and whatever other levels of reality there might be via something like brane-theory [of multiple dimensions] … really, it's not about you. It's what religion does with this drive for acknowledgement of self-importance that really gets up my nose. 'Yeah, yeah, your individual consciousness is so important to the universe that it must be preserved at all costs' – oh, please. Do try to get a grip of something other than your self-obsession. How Californian. The idea that at all costs, no matter what, it always has to be all about you. Well, I think not. ~ Iain M. Banks
Self Obsession quotes by Iain M. Banks
It's all about self-discipline. Like, self-obsession is connected completely with self-loathing, and it's the same with, if you've got a weight problem. It's all about ... finding some worth in yourself, knowing that you've got the discipline to do it, and knowing that other people maybe can't do it. And it's also, I think, really connected to the fact that you almost feel, like, silent, you have no voice, you're mute, there's just no, you've got no option. Even if you could express yourself nobody would listen anyway. Things that go on inside you, there's no other way to get rid of them. ~ Richey Edwards
Self Obsession quotes by Richey Edwards
The holy trinity of tackling a crisis is unity, faith and sacrifice. We must stay united as humans above all else, we must have faith in ourselves and in each other and we must sacrifice our self-obsession. ~ Abhijit Naskar
Self Obsession quotes by Abhijit Naskar
You're a human, you should understand self-obsession. ~ Markus Zusak
Self Obsession quotes by Markus Zusak
She released her grievances like handfuls of birdseed: They are there, and they are gone. ~ Gillian Flynn
Self Obsession quotes by Gillian Flynn
Humility is by far the most spiritual virtue of the lot. The only way by which one may cease obsessing over himself is to wholly step outside his flesh. But who could do this by himself? And who would really want to under his natural pretense? And even if somehow he could and he succeeded, would not it be artificial? Would not he seem far too aware of his own talents of achieving humility for it to be such? Alternatively, he would need a distraction, something else to love; it is not that the Humbleman thinks poorly of himself, nor highly for that matter, but rather he does not think of himself at all - and this is because he is too busy loving something or someone else to do it. For the humility of this kind 'rears its head' as the most love-driven and free, spiritual of virtues; whereas its opposite, pride, the most self-imprisoning human vice. ~ Criss Jami
Self Obsession quotes by Criss Jami
Obsession with self is the motif of our time. ~ Charles Krauthammer
Self Obsession quotes by Charles Krauthammer
Random acts of kindness are essential to our wellbeing, as they liberate us from self-obsession, selfishness, and isolation; they are the result of an open and loving nature. True generosity is giving without expectation, with no need to be repaid in any form. ~ Ed & Deb Shapiro

Self Obsession quotes by Zakia FR
Although we may suffer from idolatry, we do not, I think, suffer from materialism - from the overvaluing of material objects for their own sake. Of this the world accuses us. Yet our very wealth itself has somehow made us immune to materialism - the characteristic vice of impoverished peoples. Instead, our peculiar idolatry is one with which the world till now has been unfamiliar... To flood the world with images of ourselves. It is to these images and not the material objects that we are devoted. No wonder that the puzzled world finds this unattractive and calls it by the name of its own old-fashioned vices. ~ Daniel J. Boorstin
Self Obsession quotes by Daniel J. Boorstin
There are, of course, the people who revolve around themselves
but I agree with you, she's not one of that kind. She's totally uninterested in herself. And yet she's got a strong character
there must be something. I thought at first it was her art
but it isn't. I've never met anyone so detached from life. That's dangerous.'
'Dangerous? What do you mean?'
'Well, you see
it must mean an obsession of some kind, and obsessions are always dangerous. ~ Agatha Christie
Self Obsession quotes by Agatha Christie
There is nothing more humanly beautiful than a woman's breasts. Nothing more humanly beautiful, nothing more humanly mysterious than why men should want to caress, over and over again, with paintbrush or chisel or hand, these oddly curved fatty sacs, and nothing more humanly endearing than our complicity (I mean the complicity of women) in their obsession. ~ J.M. Coetzee
Self Obsession quotes by J.M. Coetzee
To have the beginning of a truly great story, you need to have a character you're completely and utterly obsessed with. Without obsession, to the point of a maddening addiction, there's no point to continue. ~ Jennifer Salaiz
Self Obsession quotes by Jennifer Salaiz
Love? I wanted to go with him, to be on the stronger side, for him to spare me, like one who seeks shelter in the arms of the enemy to stay far from his arrows. It was different than love, I was finding out: I wanted him as a thirsty person desires water, without feelings, without even wanting to be happy. ~ Clarice Lispector
Self Obsession quotes by Clarice Lispector
I didn't think it was fair to pretend to give of myself when I was so selfishly consumed with my own drives. ~ Jackie Mason
Self Obsession quotes by Jackie Mason
We have been a little insane about the truth. We have had an obsession. ~ Wallace Stevens
Self Obsession quotes by Wallace Stevens
My obsession is plastic packaging. It makes me sick, all the waste. Everything about it disappoints me. ~ Theo James
Self Obsession quotes by Theo James
My introduction to the Brady book was an attempt to nail the exact same idea since Brady addressed the point. And since I write pornography, naturally, something of an obsession for me. ~ Peter Sotos
Self Obsession quotes by Peter Sotos
The obsession with correct political belief and expression in art is stultifying the genre as it is necessarily exclusive. We are losing our voice in artificial, forced homogeny posing as tolerance. Propaganda-disguised-as-story drives readers away as agenda takes the place of wonder, excitement, character. and conflict. ~ Scott M. Roberts
Self Obsession quotes by Scott M. Roberts
I was told I have obsessive behavioral traits. I looked up everything to do with obsession after that. ~ Willow Madison
Self Obsession quotes by Willow Madison
I became a writer through drawing first and then a comic book obsession - Marvel Comics, in particular. I invented a world of superheroes starting in third grade with my classmate, Wai-Kwan Wong. In a classroom of forty kids, let's just say there was a lot of undirected time. But this was good because I was a dreamy boy. ~ Adam Ross
Self Obsession quotes by Adam Ross
According to the Archbishop and the Dalai Lama, when we see how little we really need - love and connection - then all the getting and grasping that we thought was so essential to our well-being takes its rightful place and no longer becomes the focus or the obsession of our lives. We ~ Dalai Lama XIV
Self Obsession quotes by Dalai Lama XIV

Self Obsession quotes by Huntley Fitzpatrick

Self Obsession quotes by Zosia Mamet
On who the flies landed without being chased away by that person, was on her way to death - this was one of the unmistakeable signs. From that time on, I think, dates my obsession with flies. In times of peace, when we all lied still, I made sure to sneak close up to my mother, watching very carefully that no fly would land on her, - I waved my hat over her body, flies don't like wind and movement ... ~ Jeroen Brouwers
Self Obsession quotes by Jeroen Brouwers
Our obsession with security is a measure of the power we have granted the future to hold over us. ~ Wendell Berry
Self Obsession quotes by Wendell Berry
...that old unfulfilled craving became an obsession I couldn't escape, a black hole of raw grief I kept falling deeper into. 'Where are my children?' I felt their absence and loss as if they existed somewhere I couldn't reach, as if they were stuck forever on the other side of a membrane and I could never access them. ~ Kate Christensen
Self Obsession quotes by Kate Christensen
What moves men of genius, or rather, what inspires their work, is not new ideas, but their obsession with the idea that what has already been said is not enough. ~ Edouard Delacroix
Self Obsession quotes by Edouard Delacroix
He kissed my tears away and whispered sweet words into my ears. Words that he was too afraid to say out loud. He told me I was beautiful. That I was perfect in every way. And that, unconditionally, I was his. ~ A. Zavarelli
Self Obsession quotes by A. Zavarelli
This obsession with celebrity culture is really unhealthy. I don't want to live my life like that, and I don't want to be a typical pop star. ~ Marina And The Diamonds
Self Obsession quotes by Marina And The Diamonds
In subsequent Christian tradition, and especially among the Church Fathers, there was a deep suspicion of the body and a negative obsession with sexuality. Sex and sexuality were portrayed as a potential danger to one's eternal salvation. The Christian tradition has often undervalued and mistreated the sacred presence of the body. ~ John O'Donohue
Self Obsession quotes by John O'Donohue
Most ardent reformers are accompanied by but equal portion of dullness . John Quincy Adams ~ Paul C. Nagel
Self Obsession quotes by Paul C. Nagel

Self Obsession quotes by Lady Gaga
I wanted to break you. I never expected you to like it. ~ A. Zavarelli
Self Obsession quotes by A. Zavarelli
Ever since her obsession with Jonathan Cain, a deranged transfer student who had been at Sweet Valley for a month, Enid's life had been entirely guyless. ~ Francine Pascal
Self Obsession quotes by Francine Pascal
It is in his obsessions that mankind most closely resembles his machines. ~ Matthew De Abaitua
Self Obsession quotes by Matthew De Abaitua
The life of the Addict is always the same. There is no excitement, no glamour, no fun. There are no good times, there is no joy, there is no happiness. There is no future and no escape. There is only an obsession. An all-encompassing, fully enveloping, completely overwhelming obsession. To make light of it, brag about it, or revel in the mock glory of it is not in any way, shape or form related to its truth, and that is all that matters, the truth. ~ James Frey
Self Obsession quotes by James Frey
Anyone and everyone taking a writing class knows that the secret of good writing is to cut it back, pare it down, winnow, chop, hack, prune, and trim, remove every superfluous word, compress, compress, compress...

Actually, when you think about it, not many novels in the Spare tradition are terribly cheerful. Jokes you can usually pluck out whole, by the roots, so if you're doing some heavy-duty prose-weeding, they're the first to go. And there's some stuff about the whole winnowing process I just don't get. Why does it always stop when the work in question has been reduced to sixty or seventy thousand words--entirely coincidentally, I'm sure, the minimum length for a publishable novel? I'm sure you could get it down to twenty or thirty if you tried hard enough. In fact, why stop at twenty or thirty? Why write at all? Why not just jot the plot and a couple of themes down on the back of an envelope and leave it at that? The truth is, there's nothing very utilitarian about fiction or its creation, and I suspect that people are desperate to make it sound manly, back-breaking labor because it's such a wussy thing to do in the first place. The obsession with austerity is an attempt to compensate, to make writing resemble a real job, like farming, or logging. (It's also why people who work in advertising put in twenty-hour days.) Go on, young writers--treat yourself to a joke, or an adverb! Spoil yourself! Readers won't mind! ~ Nick Hornby
Self Obsession quotes by Nick Hornby
I learn from thinking about the future, what hasn't been done yet. That's kind of my constant obsession. ~ John Cale
Self Obsession quotes by John Cale
Laura, this isn't love. Love lets you go on a trip without following you. Love can live without you for a week, knowing you'll come back.'
'No, it can't.' The afternoon shadows grew long and cold. In spite of the chill, a heat rose up inside her and flooded her face. 'That's how you know it's true love. When he can't live without you.'
Karen shook her head. 'That's how you know it's obsession. Or something else. ~ Natalie Standiford
Self Obsession quotes by Natalie Standiford
May your love never become an obsession. ~ Ahmed Mostafa
Self Obsession quotes by Ahmed Mostafa
seek a way or MAKE one.

Seek Success, not Popularity. It lasts longer.

Short cuts to success are none. Efforts only can achieve success.

Some call it Obsession I call it Dedication.

starting point of all achievement is desire.

Staying positive will win you Victory, positively. ~ Harsh Malik
Self Obsession quotes by Harsh Malik
There can be no doubt that the chief fault we have developed, through the long course of human evolution, is a certain basic passivity. When provoked by challenges, human beings are magnificent. When life is quiet and even, we take the path of least resistance, and then wonder why we feel bored. A man who is determined and active doesn't pay much attention to 'luck'. If things go badly, he takes a deep breath and redoubles his effort. And he quickly discovers that his moments of deepest happiness often come after such efforts. The man who has become accustomed to a passive existence becomes preoccupied with 'luck'; it may become an obsession. When things go well, he is delighted and good humored; when they go badly, he becomes gloomy and petulant. He is unhappy - or dissatisfied - most of the time, for even when he has no cause for complaint, he feels that gratitude would be premature; things might go wrong at any moment; you can't really trust the world... Gambling is one basic response to this passivity, revealing the obsession with luck, the desire to make things happen.

The absurdity about this attitude is that we fail to recognize the active part we play in making life a pleasure. When my will is active, my whole mental and physical being works better, just as my digestion works better if I take exercise between meals. I gain an increasing feeling of control over my life, instead of the feeling of helplessness (what Sartre calls 'contingency') that comes from ~ Colin Wilson
Self Obsession quotes by Colin Wilson
The genealogy of fictional characters can become an obsession, like train-spotting, and should be firmly resisted. ~ Tariq Ali
Self Obsession quotes by Tariq Ali
