Society exists through a process of transmission quite as much as biological life. This transmission occurs by means of communication of habits of doing, thinking, and feeling from the older to the younger. ~ John Dewey
Science Communication quotes by John Dewey
There is a curious idea among unscientific men that in scientific writing there is a common plateau of perfectionism. Nothing could be more untrue. The reports of biologists are the measure, not of the science, but of the men themselves. There are as few scientific giants as any other kind. In some reports it is impossible, because of inept expression, to relate the descriptions to the living animals. In some papers collecting places are so mixed or ignored that the animals mentioned cannot be found at all. The same conditioning forces itself into specification as it does into any other kind of observation, and the same faults of carelessness will be found in scientific reports as in the witness chair of a criminal court. It has seemed sometimes that the little men in scientific work assumed the awe-fullness of a priesthood to hide their deficiencies, as the witch-doctor does with his stilts and high masks, as the priesthoods of all cults have, with secret or unfamiliar languages and symbols. It is usually found that only the little stuffy men object to what is called "popularization", by which they mean writing with a clarity understandable to one not familiar with the tricks and codes of the cult. We have not known a single great scientist who could not discourse freely and interestingly with a child. Can it be that the haters of clarity have nothing to say, have observed nothing, have no clear picture of even their own fields? A dull man seems to be a dull man no matter wh ~ John Steinbeck
Science Communication quotes by John Steinbeck
Not only is it important to ask questions and find the answers, as a scientist I felt obligated to communicate with the world what we were learning. ~ Stephen Hawking
Science Communication quotes by Stephen Hawking
Wikipedia was a big help for science, especially science communication, and it shows no sign of diminishing in importance. ~ Aubrey De Grey
Science Communication quotes by Aubrey De Grey
There is no substitute for science communication to the public and policy makers. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Science Communication quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Marxism will be able to do anything. Or why is Lenin lying whole in Moscow? He's waiting for science - he wants to be revived. ~ Andrei Platonov
Science Communication quotes by Andrei Platonov
Jamaica is more than just the 'brand' the world recognizes so well; it's a place of pride for the people who live here, its educational institutions, its sports achievements, its science and technology growth. ~ Portia Simpson-Miller
Science Communication quotes by Portia Simpson-Miller
The solutions like freezing zygotes, fertilized eggs, of all kinds of animals and so on, or keeping them in zoos and having arboreta where we have trees, all these things have been promoted. Even getting the complete genetic code of various fishes so we can let them pass away and then we'll pull them back. That is science fiction run amok. ~ E. O. Wilson
Science Communication quotes by E. O. Wilson
Anyone who values truth should stop worshipping reason. ~ Jonathan Haidt
Science Communication quotes by Jonathan Haidt
At some future day it will be proved, I cannot say when and where, that the human soul is, while in earth life, already in an uninterrupted communication with those living in another world. ~ Immanuel Kant
Science Communication quotes by Immanuel Kant
As Thorstein Veblen correctly surmised over a century ago, the failure of economics to become an evolutionary science is the product of the optimizing framework of the underlying paradigm, which is inherently antithetical to the process of evolutionary change. This is the primary reason why the neoclassical mantra that the economy must be perceived as the outcome of the decisions of utility-maximizing individuals must be squarely rejected. ~ Steve Keen
Science Communication quotes by Steve Keen
The next decade will perhaps raise us a step above despair to a cleaner, clearer wisdom and biology cannot fail to help in this. As we become increasingly aware of the ethical problems raised by science and technology, the frontiers between the biological and social sciences are clearly of critical importance-in population density and problems of hunger, psychological stress, pollution of the air and water and exhaustion of irreplaceable resources. ~ H. Bentley Glass
Science Communication quotes by H. Bentley Glass
It is not so for art in appreciation because art is concerned with human behavior. And science is concerned with the behavior of metal or energy. It depends on what the fashion is. Now today it's energy. It's the same soul behind it. The same soul, you see. ~ Josef Albers
Science Communication quotes by Josef Albers
Finance is the art or science of managing revenues and resources for the best advantage of the manager ~ Ambrose Bierce
Science Communication quotes by Ambrose Bierce
The strong man is the one who is able to intercept at will the communication between the senses and the mind. ~ Napoleon Bonaparte
Science Communication quotes by Napoleon Bonaparte
This 'web of discourses' as Robyn called it...is as much a biological product as any of the other constructions to be found in the animal world. (Clothes too, are part of the extended phenotype of Homo Sapiens almost every niche inhabited by that species. An illustrated encyclopedia of zoology should no more picture Homo Sapiens naked than it should picture Ursus arctus-the black bear- wearing a clown suit and riding a bicycle. ~ Daniel C. Dennett
Science Communication quotes by Daniel C. Dennett
As long as museums and universities send out expeditions to bring to light new forms of living and extinct animals and new data illustrating the interrelations of organisms and their environments, as long as anatomists desire a broad comparative basis human for anatomy, as long as even a few students feel a strong curiosity to learn about the course of evolution and relationships of animals, the old problems of taxonomy, phylogeny and evolution will gradually reassert themselves even in competition with brilliant and highly fruitful laboratory studies in cytology, genetics and physiological chemistry. ~ William King Gregory
Science Communication quotes by William King Gregory
If God is God, he is the God of reality and facts and science and history. ~ Eric Metaxas
Science Communication quotes by Eric Metaxas
This 'Akram science' does not scorn worldly interaction in the slightest. While living absolutely within it's reality, It does not scorn the worldly interaction. Not scorning worldly interaction is itself a thing of principle. ~ Dada Bhagwan
Science Communication quotes by Dada Bhagwan
Science is you! It's your head, it's your dog, it's your iPhone - it's the world. How do you see that as boring? If it's boring, it's because you're learning it from a textbook. ~ Mary Roach
Science Communication quotes by Mary Roach
Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish. ~ Albert Einstein
Science Communication quotes by Albert Einstein
The revelation we've come to is that we can trust our memories of a past with lower, not higher, entropy only if the big bang - the process, event, or happening that brought the universe into existence - started off the universe in an extraordinarily special, highly ordered state of low entropy. ~ Brian Greene
Science Communication quotes by Brian Greene
In American prisons, which are extraordinarily violent places, the most vicious form of punishment is simply to lock a person in an empty room for years with absolutely nothing to do. This emptying of any possibility of communication or meaning is the real essence of what violence really is or does. ~ David Graeber
Science Communication quotes by David Graeber
And by hearing all the stories we will find points of contact and communication, and the world story, the Great Story, will have a chance to develop. That's the only precaution I would suggest - that we not rush into announcing the arrival of this international, this great world story, based simply on our knowledge of one or a few traditions. ~ Chinua Achebe
Science Communication quotes by Chinua Achebe
Sporting competitions seem to be what we obsess over, frankly. So if we can put engineering, science, technology into a format of healthy, fun competition, we can attract all sorts of kids that might not see the kind of activity we do as accessible or rewarding. ~ Dean Kamen
Science Communication quotes by Dean Kamen
To engage in experiments on heat was always one of my most agreeable employments. ~ Benjamin Thompson
Science Communication quotes by Benjamin Thompson
If science wants to be truthful,
What science is more truthful than the science of things without science?
I close my eyes and the hard earth where I'm lying
Has a reality so real even my back feels it.
I don't need reason - I have shoulderblades. ~ Alberto Caeiro
Science Communication quotes by Alberto Caeiro
It's easy to believe in magic when you're young. Anything you couldn't explain was magic then. It didn't matter if it was science or a fairy tale. Electricity and elves were both infinitely mysterious and equally possible - elves probably more so. ~ Charles De Lint
Science Communication quotes by Charles De Lint
Nadua was stunned by his gentleness; when he looked as though ready to tear the flesh from her throat with his lengthening fangs. ~ Kiersten Fay
Science Communication quotes by Kiersten Fay
Within speech, words are subject to a kind of relation that is independent of the first and based on their linkage: these are syntagmatic relations, of which I have spoken. ~ Ferdinand De Saussure
Science Communication quotes by Ferdinand De Saussure
Science ask facts and religion ask faith, humans are confused between life and death. ~ Santosh Kalwar
Science Communication quotes by Santosh Kalwar
We encounter, in popular science writing, not a mythologizing of the cosmos as it was perceived by purportedly naive, archaic peoples (an idea that has given rise to countless fables about our intellectual origins), but rather - and this is what makes the venture interesting - an attempt to mythologize the cosmos of matter, that is, the cosmos of de-mythologized, impersonal substance. ~ Gregory Schrempp
Science Communication quotes by Gregory Schrempp
At 55 I said the probability is I won't have another relationship. I just didn't want to start another family. Between my own bizarre criteria and taste and the fact that I'm not available for many things I thought it was unlikely. Once you know the science about it, I don't think anybody should consider being committed to a real eternal relationship until you're through something called the infatuation circle. ~ Jack Nicholson
Science Communication quotes by Jack Nicholson
Mass amateurization of publishing makes mass amateurization of filtering a forced move. ~ Clay Shirky
Science Communication quotes by Clay Shirky
But what do you care about Qorlec?" went on Dr. Zorgone. "I heard you escaped Alsa Sif V, and immediately upon your departure," he frowned, "you set coordinates for Earth?" He laughed softly, nastily, and Quinn felt anger shiver through her to see the twinkling mockery in his eyes.

"What would your people think to know that, I wonder?" continued Dr. Zorgone, tilting his head. "The first place you ran to wasn't Qorlec, wasn't the ancient home of your 'mighty' ancestors, but the polluted shit-ball of ape people? The true home of the true empress is Earth." His eyes danced over her, searching, hungry. "You speak Roknal and English fluently, but I bet you don't know a damn lick of Aviye. The entirian princess isn't even entirian --"

"What do you want?" Quinn said abruptly.

"What do I want?" repeated Dr. Zorgone, rolling his eyes to the starry sky. "Let's see . . . What do I want? I always wanted an indoor pool."

Quinn's lips tightened. ~ Ash Gray
Science Communication quotes by Ash Gray
There is good science you can do in space. There is stuff there you cannot do on Earth and we can gain understanding from it. ~ Helen Sharman
Science Communication quotes by Helen Sharman
He gazed deeply into my eyes. Placing his hand to my cheek, he caressed my skin with his fingertips. "Ariel, you have a strength that cannot be hindered by anything. A strength that I admire greatly." - Luca ~ Victoria H. Smith
Science Communication quotes by Victoria H. Smith
The greatest honor that can be paid to the work of art, on its pedestal of ritual display, is to describe it with sensory completeness. We need a science of description. Criticism is ceremonial revivification. ~ Camille Paglia
Science Communication quotes by Camille Paglia
Don't teach me how to live. I'm wicked now. I have money. But I'm magnanimous. I'll give you twenty rubles and three days to sack the city! I'm like Suvorov! Plunder the city, Kisa! Have fun! ~ Ilya Ilf
Science Communication quotes by Ilya Ilf
For better or worse we're in an age of disbelief," Rico said, "An age of science and a need for proof. ~ Bryan Islip
Science Communication quotes by Bryan Islip
The society with lots of open disagreement and social conflict is the one surging with power in art, science, commerce, constructive social reform, and (most of all) religious revival; the hushed-up society where everyone is afraid to say what he thinks is on the brink of violence and collapse. ~ Greg Forster
Science Communication quotes by Greg Forster
It is natural to think that an abstract science cannot be of much importance in affairs of human life, because it has omitted from its consideration everything of real interest. ~ Alfred North Whitehead
Science Communication quotes by Alfred North Whitehead
As mineralogy constitutes a part of chemistry, it is clear that this arrangement [of minerals] must derive its principles from chemistry. The most perfect mode of arrangement would certainly be to allow bodies to follow each other according to the order of their electro-chemical properties, from the most electro-negative, oxygen, to the most electro-positive, potassium; and to place every compound body according to its most electro-positive ingredient. ~ Jons Jacob Berzelius
Science Communication quotes by Jons Jacob Berzelius
There has been 32 isms since the advent of cubism, yet after all there are essentially the same two old strings, the Romantic and the Classical. We've just be confused by the storm. Science and psychology have played a great part to say nothing of sex. ~ Mark Tobey
Science Communication quotes by Mark Tobey
