..my feelings for the countryside…the beauty and the wildness, the enchantment of so much colour and life and warmth of the sun. Most people are restless in the country, they feel a vacancy, and want to get back to the shops and pavements and traffic; what they call life. Sometimes this war seems to have come directly out of that restlessness. ~ Henry Williamson
Rural Life quotes by Henry Williamson
But these backwaters of existence sometimes breed, in their sluggish depths, strange acuities of emotion ... ("Afterward") ~ Edith Wharton
Rural Life quotes by Edith Wharton
Before drawing any affirmative conclusions let us first note the absence of the concept of imitation as a general pastoral or moral guideline. There is in the New Testament no Franciscan glorification of barefoot itinerancy. Even when Paul argues the case for celibacy, it does not occur to him to appeal to the example of Jesus. Even when Paul explains his own predilection for self-support there is no appeal to Jesus' years of village artisan. Even when the Apostle argues strongly the case for his teaching authority, there is no appeal to the rabbinic ministry of Jesus. Jesus' trade as a carpenter, his association with fishermen, and his choice of illustrations from the life of the sower and the shepherd have through Christian history given momentum to the romantic glorification of the handcrafts and the rural life; but there is none of this in the New Testament, which testifies throughout to the life and mission of a church going intentionally into the cities in full knowledge of the conflicts which awaited here there. That the concept of imitation is not applied by the New Testament at some of those points where Franciscan and romantic devotion has tried most piously to apply it, is all the more demonstration of how fundamental the thought of participation in the suffering of Christ is when the New Testament church sees it as guiding and explaining her attitude to the powers of the world. Only at one point, only on one subject - but then consistently, universally - is Jesus ~ John Howard Yoder
Rural Life quotes by John Howard Yoder
In 1840 I was called from my farm to undertake the administration of public affairs and I foresaw that I was called to a bed of thorns. I now leave that bed which has afforded me little rest, and eagerly seek repose in the quiet enjoyments of rural life. ~ John Tyler
Rural Life quotes by John Tyler
In small towns, news travels at the speed of boredom. ~ Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Rural Life quotes by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him - but he was a good and faithful horse.
-Frank

From "Eulogy for a Percheron" in "The Horse Lawyer and Other Poems ~ Greg Seeley
Rural Life quotes by Greg Seeley
Once wealth and beauty are gone, there is always rural life. ~ Mason Cooley
Rural Life quotes by Mason Cooley
Nelson, do you remember the spring day when we climbed the barn gable so we could see the seagulls that mysteriously blew into our clay hills
swept from an ocean neither of us had ever seen though it was scarcely a hundred miles away, each bird a genuine miracle high above the green barley? The time we saw that panther in the sycamore tree and Maw said it was the sign of war? Nelson, I am sixty-three years old, the same age that both Maw and Daddy were when they died. I have written this in testimony. With this book, I presume to be done now with such remembrance. But somehow I suspect it will go on, this peering down old wells, this excavation of memory and its shades. ~ Joe Bageant
Rural Life quotes by Joe Bageant
I suppose he represented the worst of what rural life can do to a man: he was racist, uneducated, and badly in need of dental work. ~ Reif Larsen
Rural Life quotes by Reif Larsen
I had left small-town, rural life for good, and I had no intention of ever returning, not because I didn't like my home but because I had always known that I would leave. Leaving was part of my life romance, part of an idea I had about myself as a person destined for adventure; and as far as I could tell, adventure lay in the urban wilds of Manhattan, not in the farmland of Minnesota. ~ Siri Hustvedt
Rural Life quotes by Siri Hustvedt
Nor rural sights alone, but rural sounds,
Exhilirate the spirit, and restore
The tone of languid nature. ~ William Cowper
Rural Life quotes by William Cowper
Bourgeoisie has subjected the country to the rule of the towns. It has created enormous cities, has greatly increased the urban population as compared with the rural, and has thus rescued a considerable part of the population from the idiocy of rural life. Just as it has made the country dependent on the towns, so it has made barbarian and semi-barbarian countries dependent on the civilised ones, nations of peasants on nations of bourgeois, the East on the West. ~ Friedrich Engels
Rural Life quotes by Friedrich Engels
Do you know, Watson," said he, "that it is one of the curses of a mind with a turn like mine that I must look at everything with reference to my own special subject. You look at these scattered houses, and you are impressed by their beauty. I look at them, and the only thought which comes to me is a feeling of their isolation and of the impunity with which crime may be committed there. ~ Arthur Conan Doyle
Rural Life quotes by Arthur Conan Doyle
A border collie named Orson inspired me to buy a 110-acre farm with four barns and a sheep. That led to a series of books about Bedlam Farm and about dogs, rural life, lambing and herding sheep. ~ Jon Katz
Rural Life quotes by Jon Katz
What was one to do, thought Adela, with someone who didn't talk gardening or dogs - those standbys of rural conversation. ~ Agatha Christie
Rural Life quotes by Agatha Christie
At 6:15 she was standing on her front porch watering gardenias and watching another line of thunderstorms split and go around her. The same thing happened almost every day. Some days they came so close all she could smell was the rain. The wind whipped up dust from the fields until it drove like buckshot into the shuddering mesquites, and Clara Nell started to pray. 'Jesus,' she whispered. 'Jesus, Jesus....' But the only thing that came out of the sky was her topsoil. Every day the wind took a little more, and it hadn't rained in almost a year. ~ Andrew Geyer
Rural Life quotes by Andrew Geyer
Tourists who come to Nepal look at terraced fields and see their beauty but remain blind to the hard labour they extract from tillers. ~ Manjushree Thapa
Rural Life quotes by Manjushree Thapa
Energy is neither created nor destroyed. It just changes shape. ~ Sheri Reynolds
Rural Life quotes by Sheri Reynolds
The eldest ones said that the laughter and tears are sewn right into the quilt, part and parcel, stitch by stitch. Emotions, experiences, heartbreak, mourning, pain and regret, stitched into the cloth, along with happiness, satisfaction, cheer, comfort, and love. The finished quilts were a living thing, a reflection of the spirits of its creators. ~ Arlene Stafford-Wilson
Rural Life quotes by Arlene Stafford-Wilson
Through the sequester'd vale of rural life
The venerable patriarch guileless held
The tenor of his way. ~ Beilby Porteus
Rural Life quotes by Beilby Porteus
I am sure. But how does uploading videos about, say, 'women are empowered to fuck a donkey if they wish', help a rural woman who might have a donkey but no internet?" Appy asked. ~ Sreejib
Rural Life quotes by Sreejib
Sometimes a rural life - without agricultural culture, community, or land - it means that you're a very long drive from everything. It's a big cultural isolation in terms of any kind of schooling where you could get exposed to things that might push the positive buttons. The geography of where people find themselves situated, both in metropolises and in the heartland, really starts to matter. ~ Debra Granik
Rural Life quotes by Debra Granik
The central theme of Anna Karenina," he said, "is that a rural life of moral simplicity, despite its monotony, is the preferable personal narrative to a daring life of impulsive passion, which only leads to tragedy."
"That is a very long theme," the scout said.
"It's a very long book," Klaus replied.
[ ... ]
"Or maybe a daring life of impulsive passion leads to something else," the scout said, and in some cases this mysterious person was right. A daring life of impulsive passion is an expression which refers to people who follow what is in their hearts, and like people who prefer to follow their head, or follow a mysterious man in a dark blue raincoat, people who lead a daring life of impulsive passion end up doing all sorts of things. ~ Lemony Snicket
Rural Life quotes by Lemony Snicket
Although I've lived in England for more than twenty years, I still have a foreigner's passion for all the details of English history and rural life. ~ Meg Rosoff
Rural Life quotes by Meg Rosoff
I've been watching RFD-TV for a few years. As a person who lives mostly in the country, I appreciate a network that shows the many facets of rural life. ~ Daryl Hall
Rural Life quotes by Daryl Hall
Conservation and rural-life policies are really two sides of the same policy; and down at the bottom this policy rests upon the fundamental law that neither man nor nation can prosper unless, in dealing with the present, thought is steadily given for the future. ~ Theodore Roosevelt
Rural Life quotes by Theodore Roosevelt
Love's absence ailed me. I could not imagine loving my husband. He was a superior and I did not know how to love and be subservient together. Nor had he ever thought of me as a human being, let alone a woman. For no reason had he ever softened towards me, I had stirred him that little. ~ Tehmina Durrani
Rural Life quotes by Tehmina Durrani
I lived in New York for eleven and a half years and I don't think anybody ever asked me about my religion. I never even thought about it. Now, all of a sudden, it was the big thing in my life. ~ Judy Blume
Rural Life quotes by Judy Blume
Destiny is the road that unravels before us, the order of things both happy and tragic. Destiny is that which rules our long lives. And life is the distance we travel on that road. So there is no one real path. We all arrive at our destination, even after getting lost countless times. ~ K-Ske Hasegawa
Rural Life quotes by K-Ske Hasegawa
Plan may fail, life goes on. ~ Toba Beta
Rural Life quotes by Toba Beta
She wished she wasn't jealous, but in quiet, weak moments, she desperately wanted to be like them. She wanted gentlemen to shoulder each other out of the way for her attention, to hang on her every word, however vapid those words would have to be. She wished a gentleman, just one gentleman, would notice her.
But then she remembered that she didn't like to be vapid, and she didn't wish her entire life to revolve around the attention of men. ~ Annabel Joseph
Rural Life quotes by Annabel Joseph
As reason and revelation both tell us that this state of being is but a preparation for another of a still higher and more spiritual order, all the interests of life are of comparatively little importance, when put in the balance against the future. ~ James F. Cooper
Rural Life quotes by James F. Cooper
You finally did it!
I suppose so. Though I don't really know what 'it' is.
It is life, sweetie. Rich, abundant, thrilling life! You've embraced it ... What he did to you was evil. But it struck me the other day that if you turn evil around, you're actually left with a pretty clear directive: live. And that's exactly what you're doing. You going to live. Really live. ~ Glenn Beck
Rural Life quotes by Glenn Beck
Only love makes fruitful the soul. The sense of form that both had in such high degree prevented much demonstration; but to be with him, do things for him, to admire, and credit him with perfection; and, since she could not exactly wear the same clothes or speak in the same clipped, quiet, decisive voice, to dislike the clothes and voices of other men - all this was precious to her beyond everything. ~ John Galsworthy
Rural Life quotes by John Galsworthy
The conception of two people living together for twenty-five years without having a cross word suggests a lack of spirit only to be admired in sheep ~ A.P. Herbert
Rural Life quotes by A.P. Herbert
Be grateful for what you already have, and you will attract more good things. ~ Rhonda Byrne
Rural Life quotes by Rhonda Byrne
Something new seems to be at work in the contemporary world - a process that is eating away the very heart of social life, not merely by putting salesmanship in place of moral virtue, but by putting everything - virtue included - on sale. ~ Roger Scruton
Rural Life quotes by Roger Scruton
I know that plans and reality may be two different things, but I think my demands on life are minimal. ~ Moshe Dayan
Rural Life quotes by Moshe Dayan
Her eyes, full of ancient, sacred wisdom. Her bones, deposits of inherited bravery. She is a proud descendant of strong, courageous women who went to the stakes fighting for their truths. ~ Melody Lee
Rural Life quotes by Melody Lee
That which is essential for life, can never be bought. ~ Debasish Mridha
Rural Life quotes by Debasish Mridha
I don't mind ... the fun and games of being treated like a fragile flower. But as a physiologist working with the unromantic scientific facts of life, I find it hard to delude myself about feminine frailty. ~ Estelle Ramey
Rural Life quotes by Estelle Ramey
Hello' said a vague and dreamy voice from behind them. Harry looked up: Luna Lovegood had drifted over from the Ravenclaw table. Many people were staring at her and few people openly laughing and pointing; she had managed to procure a hat shaped like a life-size lion's head, which was perched precariously on her head.
'I'm supporting Gryffindor' said Luna, pointing unnecessarily at her hat. Look what it does ... '
She reached up and tapped the hat with her wand. It opened its mouth wide and gave an extremely realistic roar that made everyone in the vicinity jump.
'It's good, isn't it?' said Luna happily. 'I wanted to have it chewing up a serpent to represent Slytherin, you know, but there wasn't time. Anyway ... good luck, Ronald! ~ J.K. Rowling
Rural Life quotes by J.K. Rowling
Emotions change. Truth doesn't. What will you build your life upon? ~ Andy Mineo
Rural Life quotes by Andy Mineo
I believe that a person should take an affirmative outlook. There are always problems in life, old and new, uncertainties, and unexpected contingencies. The optimal way to deal with this is not to give up in despair, but to move ahead using the best intelligence and resources that we have to overcome adversity. ~ Paul Kurtz
Rural Life quotes by Paul Kurtz
A sailor chooses the wind that takes the ship from a safe port. Ah, yes, but once you're abroad, as you have seen, winds have a mind of their own. Be careful, Charlotte, careful of the wind you choose. ~ Avi
Rural Life quotes by Avi
Suicidal pain includes the feeling that one has lost all capacity to effect emotional change. The agony is excruciating and looks as if it will never end. There is the feeling of having been beaten down for a very long time. There are feelings of agitation, emptiness, and incoherence. 'Snap out of it and get on with your life,' sounds like a demand to high jump ten feet. ~ David L. Conroy
Rural Life quotes by David L. Conroy
I don't believe in charmed lives. I think that tragedy is part of the lesson you learn to lift yourself up, to pick yourself up and to move on. ~ Charlize Theron
Rural Life quotes by Charlize Theron
Above everything else, genuinely love yourself first. Self-love is powerful and it's the best love that you will ever have. When you love who YOU are, your relationships will be healthier and your life will be happier. Self-love sets the standard in how we allow others to treat us and how we treat ourselves. Your happiness and well-being is important. Protect it by always valuing who you are! ~ Stephanie Lahart
Rural Life quotes by Stephanie Lahart
Who among us has not wanted to be transformed? I had lived all my life surrounded by extraordinary people, and some nights I would fall asleep wishing to wake up worthy of them. ~ Sarah McCarry
Rural Life quotes by Sarah McCarry
No relationship is ever a waste of your time. If it didn't bring you what you want, it taught you what you don't want.

Don't beg for anyone to stay in your life. It's pathetic. If they want to be a part of your life, they'll stay. ~ Illuminati
Rural Life quotes by Illuminati
Those who have been writing literature have not been writing life. ~ Charles Bukowski
Rural Life quotes by Charles Bukowski
I stole you, among others, from the streets of God's birthplace. I forced you to work as a slave. Imprisoned, mistreated and starved you and your companion. To top it off, I am in the process of selling your life to the highest bidder. Why would you trust me? ~ V.S. Carnes
Rural Life quotes by V.S. Carnes
If pain must come, may it come quickly. Because I have a life to live, and I need to live it in the best way possible. If he has to make a choice, may he make it now. Then I will either wait for him or forget him. ~ Paulo Coelho
Rural Life quotes by Paulo Coelho
Because sometimes I find myself talking about God so much He becomes more of an identity marker than an identity changer in my life. Having God as an identity marker reduces Him to nothing more than a label, a lingo, & a lifestyle
I'm a Christian so I talk like one & act like one. But having God as an identity changer is much, much more. It means I am no longer the person I was before, someone who comes unglued at minor things. I am making imperfect progress. Shifting, breaking away, & being chiseled. I am a woman whose identity has been changed by coming face to face with the One who has the power to completely transform me. ~ Lysa TerKeurst
Rural Life quotes by Lysa TerKeurst
But maybe every life looked wonderful if all you saw was the photo albums. ~ Liane Moriarty

How wonderful will it be when all beings experience each other as limbs on the one body of life. ~ Shantideva
Rural Life quotes by Shantideva
What life and death may be to a turkey is not my business; but the soul of Scrooge and the body of Cratchit are my business. ~ Gilbert K. Chesterton

Of a life I had. ~ Wilfred Waters
Rural Life quotes by Wilfred Waters
Well, it gives me the opportunity to make the movies that I want to do, because L'Oreal pays me very well. Also it means that I can work with great directors. My last commercial was directed by Erick Zonca, who made 'Dream Life of Angels.' And finally, it doesn't take up a lot of my time. ~ Virginie LeDoyen
Rural Life quotes by Virginie LeDoyen
I will follow my logic, no matter where it goes, after it has consulted with my heart. If you ever come to a conclusion without calling the heart in, you will come to a bad conclusion. ~ Robert Green Ingersoll
Rural Life quotes by Robert Green Ingersoll
Success and all good things in life, start with a genuine concern for others. ~ Mike Vance
Rural Life quotes by Mike Vance
In the end, you have only yourself to depend on. It's up to you to make sure that you're strong enough to handle the hurts and disappointments that come your way -no matter what they are. ~ Jennifer Estep
Rural Life quotes by Jennifer Estep
Choosing to be alive and consciously committing to life, in all its exuberant chaos- and it's pain. ~ Jeanette Winterson
Rural Life quotes by Jeanette Winterson
Happiness is the good life that is marked by flourishing well-being, joy, prosperity, peace, satisfaction, and pleasure. ~ Ogwo David Emenike
Rural Life quotes by Ogwo David Emenike
A tree, young or old, if admired, remains a definite vision, and when after long absence it is visited again, the meeting place is approached with feelings of pleasure and curiosity as to how one's friend had fared, even with thoughts as to what changes may come to tree or visitor since first they met; this may seem like a foolish sentiment - perhaps it is. But, after all, sentiment is mingled with most that's best in life. ~ Charles Eley
Rural Life quotes by Charles Eley
People who have no respect for human life or for freedom or justice have taken over this beautiful country of ours. It will be up to the American people to take it back. ~ Howard Zinn
Rural Life quotes by Howard Zinn
The fear of the unknown was eclipsed by the gladness that came of taking action, of doing something rather than waiting, of following what seemed to be the call of my life. ~ Tracy L. Higley
