It's just that you are practiced at persuading, and sometimes it's quite difficult, sir to distinguish being persuaded by you from being knocked down in street and stamped on.
Pg.406 ~ Hilary Mantel
Richard Cromwell quotes by Hilary Mantel
Every game I played against Henri Richard, he'd come up to behind me at some point and say, 'My brother's better than your brother.' ~ Dennis Hull
Richard Cromwell quotes by Dennis Hull
Value your freedom or you will lose it, teaches history. 'Don't bother us with politics', respond those who don't want to learn. ~ Richard Stallman
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Stallman
There are a lot of things my mother taught me and helped me and disciplined me and made sure I stayed on the right track. And there are a ton of things that only my father could have taught me. ~ Richard Sherman
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Sherman
Throwing yourself into a job you enjoy is one of the life's greatest pleasures! ~ Richard Branson
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Branson
You cannot heal what you do not first acknowledge. ~ Richard Rohr
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Rohr
Treat everyone on the organization with respect and dignity whether it be the janitor or the president. ~ Richard Moran
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Moran
Like prepositional phrases, certain structural arrangements in English are much more important than the small bones of grammar in its most technical sense. It really wouldn't matter much if we started dropping the s from our plurals. Lots of words get along without it anyway, and in most cases context would be enough to indicate number. Even the distinction between singular and plural verb forms is just as much a polite convention as an essential element of meaning. But the structures, things like passives and prepositional phrases, constitute, among other things, an implicit system of moral philosophy, a view of the world and its presumed meanings, and their misuse therefore often betrays an attitude or value that the user might like to disavow.
~ Richard Mitchell
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Mitchell
That's what the majority of people in the world do, they walk among the ruins of their life. Things that didn't work out, relationships that went sour, jobs that disappeared. All they can think about is their ruins, and when you focus on that you can't build a new you. ~ Richard Simmons
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Simmons
We [Virgin Group] have been successful not by wasting time scrutinising our competitors but by looking at ourselves from the point of view of our customers do and seeking feedback through listening. ~ Richard Branson
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Branson
Thomas Merton writes that if we have meditated on the events of the Passion but have not meditated on Dachau and Auschwitz, our perception of God at work in present times is incomplete. ~ Richard J. Foster
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard J. Foster
Maybe the American Dream is too rich for us now in the U.S. Maybe we're losing it because we are not like our Swedish grandmother who came across the plains, hacked down the trees, and took the Spanish words she encountered and made them hers. Now her great-great-grandchildren sit terrified, wondering what to do with all these Mexicans. The American Dream is an impossible affirmation of possibility. And maybe native-born Americans don't have it anymore. Maybe it has run through their fingers. ~ Richard Rodriguez
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Rodriguez
Miley Cyrus, like all of us, needs to be loved. We all come from complicated parents ... I understand her, and I love her, and I think things will be different with her. But you know, in the music business, sometimes you have to shock a little. ~ Richard Simmons
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Simmons
It's not like a tree where the roots have to end somewhere, it's more like a song on a policeman's radio, how we rolled up the carpet so we could dance, and the days were bright red, and every time we kissed there was another apple to slice into pieces. ~ Richard Siken
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Siken
I believe in the human form; let me find something, some method, by which that form may achieve the utmost beauty. ~ Richard Jefferies
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Jefferies
Like I said, what makes people tick isn't neccessarily what makes them good. Fast-forward, ~ Richard Russo
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Russo
Racist" is not - as Richard Spencer argues - a pejorative. It is not the worst word in the English language; it is not the equivalent of a slur. It is descriptive, and the only way to undo racism is to consistently identify and describe it - and then dismantle it. The attempt to turn this usefully descriptive term into an almost unusable slur is, of course, designed to do the opposite: to freeze us into inaction. ~ Ibram X. Kendi
Richard Cromwell quotes by Ibram X. Kendi
Looked at objectively, it is clear that the overwhelming majority of civilian deaths resulting from political violence are produced by what should be understood as "state terror." Terrorism also serves as an excuse to avoid diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of conflict. ~ Richard A. Falk
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard A. Falk
Nature has a great simplicity and therefore a great beauty ~ Richard Feynman
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Feynman
I went to work, but the mood of the book would not die; it lingered, coloring everything I saw, heard, did. I now felt that I knew what the white man were feeling. Merely because I had read a book that had spoken of how they lived and thought, I identified myself with that book. ~ Richard Wright
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Wright
Libraries are my passion in life. Before I became mayor (of Los Angeles), I used to sneak out here during lunchtime ... and I'd go to a corner and take a book-any book almost-and read it for a while, and then feel rejuvenated. ~ Richard Riordan
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Riordan
Live so as to have a quiet conscience. ~ Richard L. Evans
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard L. Evans
Malefic baneberry. It doesn't taste good, but one teaspoon and a skeleton would dance a jig. He ~ Richard Kadrey
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Kadrey
What is this "zero mass"? The masses given here are the masses of the
particles at rest. The fact that a particle has zero mass means, in a way, that it
cannot be at rest. A photon is never at rest, it is always moving at 186,000 miles a
second. ~ Richard P. Feynman
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard P. Feynman
We see only a part of the surface of things. The rest will be forever hidden from us, to be appreciated for its felt but unfathomed presence. ~ Richard Taylor
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Taylor
Think of your child, then, not as dead, but as living; not as a flower that has withered, but as one that is transplanted, and touched by a Divine hand, is blooming in richer colors and sweeter shades than those of earth. ~ Richard Hooker
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Hooker
A voice of greeting from the wind was sent; The mists enfolded me with soft white arms; The birds did sing to lap me in content, The rivers wove their charms, And every little daisy in the grass Did look up in my face, and smile to see me pass! ~ Richard Henry Stoddard
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Henry Stoddard
Sometimes, when you do the music for a play, there are very clear boundaries as to what needs to be achieved. You're very much a little cog in a much bigger machine. ~ Richard Dawson
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Dawson
All men die in solitude; all values are degraded in a state of misery: that is what Shakespeare tells me ~ Eugene Ionesco
Richard Cromwell quotes by Eugene Ionesco
I believe in benevolent dictatorship provided I am the dictator. ~ Richard Branson
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Branson
Is it safe?" John asked, hovering by the doorway. "Safe?" Richard asked. "What mean you by that?" John entered the chamber slowly. Richard blinked at the enormous discoloration on John's face. "Saints, man, have you and Jessica been brawling?" "Jessica? Richard, you fool, 'twas you who struck me! And twice, no less!" "Me? Have you gone daft? Why would I do such a thing?" John shrugged. "You were out of your head with fever. Jessica was the fortunate one. You only nicked her. I took the full brunt of your blows. ~ Lynn Kurland
Richard Cromwell quotes by Lynn Kurland
The only time in the history of the world that we have had any extended periods of peace is when there has been a balance of power. It is when one nation becomes infinitely more powerful in relation to its potential competitors that the danger of war arises. ~ Richard M. Nixon
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard M. Nixon
I mumbled something about how it was easy to calculate e to any power using that series (you just substitute the power for x). "Oh yeah?" they said, "Well, then, what's e to the 3.3?" said some joker - I think it was Tukey. I say, "That's easy. It's 27.11." Tukey knows it isn't so easy to compute all that in your head. "Hey! How'd you do that?" Another guy says, "You know Feynman, he's just faking it. It's not really right." They go to get a table, and while they're doing that, I put on a few more figures: "27.1126," I say. They find it in the table. "It's right! But how'd you do it!" "I just summed the series." "Nobody can sum the series that fast. You must just happen to know that one. How about e to the 3?" "Look," I say. "It's hard work! Only one a day!" "Hah! It's a fake!" they say, happily. "All right," I say, "It's 20.085. ~ Richard Feynman
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Feynman
It was a way out of poverty. It was a way to success. It was a way to education. And it was a way to a brighter day for me. ~ Little Richard
Richard Cromwell quotes by Little Richard
The alternative which I favor is to renounce all euphemisms and grasp the nettle of the word atheism itself, precisely because it is a taboo word carrying frissons of hysterical phobia. Critical mass may be harder to achieve than with some non-confrontational euphemism, but if we did achieve it with the dread word atheist, the political impact would be all the greater. ~ Richard Dawkins
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Dawkins
It doesn't take special talents to reproduce
even plants can do it. On the other hand, contributing to a program like Emacs takes real skill. That is really something to be proud of. It helps more people, too. ~ Richard Stallman
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Stallman
If it ain't tubes, we don't do it. ~ Richard Smalley
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Smalley
No matter how difficult something you or a loved one faces, it should not take over your life and be the center of all your interest. Challenges are growth experiences, temporary scenes to be played out on the background of a pleasant life. Don't become so absorbed in a single event that you can't think of anything else or care for yourself or for those who depend upon you. Remember, much like the mending of the body, the healing of some spiritual and emotional challenges takes time. ~ Richard G. Scott
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard G. Scott
We design our lives through the power of choices. ~ Richard Bach
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Bach
We may be so eager to protect the right to dissent that we lose sight of the difference between dissent and subversion. ~ Richard Perle
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Perle
You know nothing of me." Through clenched teeth. "Nothing. You've fucked me, that's all. Well, that's a crowded hole you're in, darling. And us humans, we're a lying, dissembling bunch, remember. Doesn't pay to trust us between the sheets any more than anywhere else. ~ Richard K. Morgan
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard K. Morgan
The population of the U.S. is nearly 300 million, including many of the best educated, most talented, most resourceful, humane people on earth. By almost any measure of civilised attainment, from Nobel prize-counts on down, the U.S. leads the world by miles. ~ Richard Dawkins
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Dawkins
I think that people in the Bible Belt are far less monolithically religious than many people imagine. There are lots and lots of people who are free-thinking, secularists, or atheists in the so-called Bible Belt. ~ Richard Dawkins
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Dawkins
We know nothing until intuition agrees. ~ Richard Bach
Richard Cromwell quotes by Richard Bach
We also have to consider the many different kinds of rape we have learned about over the past few years as conservative politicians blunder through trying to explain their stances on sexual violence and abortion.

For instance, Indiana treasurer Richard Mourdock, running for the US Senate in 2012, said, in a debate, "I struggled with it myself for a long time, and I realized that life is a gift from God, and I think even when life begins int hat horrible situation of rape, that is something God intended to happen." I've been obsessing over these words, and trying to understand how someone who purports to believe in God can also believe that anything born of rape is God-intended. Just as there are many different kinds of rape, there are many different kinds of God. I am also reminded that women, more often than not, are the recipient of God's intentions and must also bear the burdens of these intentions.

Mourdock is certainly not alone in offering up opinions about rape. Former Missouri representative Todd Akin believes in "legitimate rape" and the oxymoronic "forcible rape," not to be confused with all that illegitimate rape going on. Ron Paul believes in the existence of "honest rape," but turns a blind eye to the dishonest rapes out there. Former Wisconsin State representative Roger Rivard believes some girls, "they rape so easy." Lest you think these new definitions of rape are only the purview of men, failed Senate candidate Linda McMahon of Connect ~ Roxane Gay
