When people in stadiums do the Wave, it's the group-mind collective organism spontaneously organizing itself to express an emotion, pass time, and reflect the joy of seeing the rhythms of many as one, a visual rhyming or music in which everyone senses where the motion is going. ~ Jerry Saltz
Rhyming quotes by Jerry Saltz
My parents were hippies, and the story is that they went through a dictionary looking for a beautiful word to name me. They nearly called me Banyan, but flipped a few pages on and reached "China," thankfully. The other reason they liked it is that "china" is Cockney rhyming slang for "mate." People say "my old china," meaning "my old mate," because "china plate" rhymes with "mate. ~ China Mieville
Rhyming quotes by China Mieville
The poet like an acrobat climbs on rime to a high wire of his own making. ~ Lawrence Ferlinghetti
Rhyming quotes by Lawrence Ferlinghetti
I think the first time I really heard poetry was in the schoolyard. Just the little limericks that kids say when they're jumping rope and playing games. I think that's the first time I heard rhyming words - I don't know if I'd call that the definitive poetry, but that's when I heard rhyming words said and not necessarily sung. ~ Jill Scott
Rhyming quotes by Jill Scott
It starts off like climbing a tree or solving a puzzle - poetry, if nothing else, is just fun to write. But deeper into each and every piece, you no longer hesitate to call it work. It's passion. A poet's sense of lyrical accomplishment is then his food and water, his means of survival. ~ Criss Jami
Rhyming quotes by Criss Jami
We're rhyming; we're carrying the banner representing hardcore hip-hop to the death. ~ Immortal Technique
Rhyming quotes by Immortal Technique
I was not born under a rhyming planet, nor I cannot woo to in festival terms. ~ William Shakespeare
Rhyming quotes by William Shakespeare
It is indeed a tricky name. It is often misspelt, because the eye tends to regard the "a" of the first syllable as a misprint and then tries to restore the symmetrical sequence by triplicating the "o"- filling up the row of circles, so to speak, as in a game of crosses and naughts. No-bow-cough. How ugly, how wrong. Every author whose name is fairly often mentioned in periodicals develops a bird-watcher's or caterpillar-picker's knack when scanning an article. But in my case I always get caught by the word "nobody" when capitalized at the beginning of a sentence. As to pronunciation, Frenchmen of course say Nabokoff, with the accent on the last syllable. Englishmen say Nabokov, accent on the first, and Italians say Nabokov, accent in the middle, as Russians also do. Na-bo-kov. A heavy open "o" as in "Knickerbocker". My New England ear is not offended by the long elegant middle "o" of Nabokov as delivered in American academies. The awful "Na-bah-kov" is a despicable gutterism. Well, you can make your choice now. Incidentallv, the first name is pronounced Vladeemer- rhyming with "redeemer"- not Vladimir rhyming with Faddimere (a place in England, I think). ~ Vladimir Nabokov
Rhyming quotes by Vladimir Nabokov
Help me. Please?"
She gave him an abashed nod (but not nearly so
abashed as she ought) and turned to Harriet. "I think that Lord Winstead refers to the rhyming qualities of the title." Harriet blinked a few times. "It doesn't rhyme."
"Oh, for heaven's sake," Elizabeth burst out. " Finstead Winstead?"
Harriet's gasp very nearly sucked the air from the room. "I never noticed!" she exclaimed.
"Obviously," her sister drawled.
"I must have been thinking about you when I wrote
the play," Harriet said to Daniel. From her expression, he gathered he was meant to feel flattered, so he tried to smile. ~ Julia Quinn
Rhyming quotes by Julia Quinn
It was my kind of song: fast and fun and exuberant, the lyrics tumbling out almost faster than my ears could follow them, some times rhyming, sometimes not ... ~ Anthony Rapp

I was always rhyming and doing it for the love before I found out I was gonna have children and when I found out, doing it for the love wasn't enough. ~ Talib Kweli
Rhyming quotes by Talib Kweli
I'm tired of love; I'm still more tired of rhyme; but money gives me pleasure all the time. ~ Hilaire Belloc
Rhyming quotes by Hilaire Belloc
Jim Henson's body was gone, and yet that powerful presence-that undefinable 'something' that compelled men to seek his appreciation and approval, and that women found somehow irresistible-would always remain. Anyone who had ever smiled as Ernie tried to play a rhyming game with Bert, or laughed as Kermit had chased Fozzie off the stage, arms flailing, had felt it. Anyone who had ever wished they could explore a Fraggle hole, save the world with a crystal shard, or dance with a charismatic goblin king had been touched by it. ~ Brian Jay Jones
Rhyming quotes by Brian Jay Jones
Why has no one written a November rhapsody with plenty of lilt and swing? The poets who are moved at all by this month seem only stirred to lamentation, giving us year end and 'melancholy days' remarks, thereby showing that theory is stronger than observation among the rhyming brotherhood, or else that they have chronic indigestion and no gardens to stimulate them. ~ Mabel Osgood Wright
Rhyming quotes by Mabel Osgood Wright
No thesaurus can give you those words, no rhyming dictionary. They must happen out of you. ~ Dorothy Fields
Rhyming quotes by Dorothy Fields
I'm a B-boy at heart. I still like rhyming. It's just the radio game is like Chinese arithmetic. It's hard to know what nuts to crack. But I still love music, been dropping music. Never stopped, really. ~ Ice Cube
Rhyming quotes by Ice Cube
I like rhyme because it is memorable, I like form because having to work to a pattern gives me original ideas. ~ Anne Stevenson
Rhyming quotes by Anne Stevenson
Powell belongs, in fact to the first generation of American poets who may have grown up without even a vestigial connection to the accentual-syllabic, rhyming English tradition - his inventive lines have this absence at their back. ~ Stephen Burt
Rhyming quotes by Stephen Burt
Halt glared at his friend as the whistling continued.
'I had hoped that your new sense of responsibly would put an end to that painful shrieking noise you make between your lips' he said.
Crowley smiled. It was a beautiful day and he was feeling at peace with the world. And that meant he was more than ready to tease Halt 'It's a jaunty song'
'What's jaunty about it?' Halt asked, grim faced. Crowley made an uncertain gesture as he sought for an answer to that question.
'I suppose it's the subject matter' he said eventually. 'It's a very cheerful song. Would you like me to sing it for you?'
'N-' Halt began but he was too late, as Crowley began to sing. He had a pleasant tenor voice, in fact, and his rendering of the song was quite good. But to Halt it was as attractive as a rusty barn door squeaking.
'A blacksmith from Palladio, he met a lovely lady-o'
'Whoa! Whoa!' Halt said 'He met a lovely lady-o?' Halt repeated sarcastically 'What in the name of all that's holy is a lady-o?'
'It's a lady' Crowley told him patiently.
'Then why not sing 'he met a lovely lady'?' Halt wanted to know.
Crowley frowned as if the answer was blatantly obvious.
"Because he's from Palladio, as the song says. It's a city on the continent, in the southern part of Toscana.'
'And people there have lady-o's, instead of ladies?' Asked Halt
'No. They have ladies, like everyone else. But 'lady' doesn't rhyme with Palladio, does it? I could hardl ~ John Flanagan
Rhyming quotes by John Flanagan
Children seem naturally drawn to poetry - it's some combination of the rhyme, rhythm, and the words themselves. ~ Jack Prelutsky
Rhyming quotes by Jack Prelutsky
In the poetry of arrival, the garage door is free verse; the front door can be anything from a rhyming couplet to a sonnet. ~ Akiko Busch
Rhyming quotes by Akiko Busch
(Poetry) helped me to find a silver lining in even the darkest emotions, experiences, observations and topics; find positivity even in the face of extreme negativity; find strength when I was being forced to feel weak; and find hope that my tomorrows would be brighter. ~ Following Whispers
Rhyming quotes by Following Whispers
The truest and greatest Poetry, (while subtly and necessarily always rhythmic, and distinguishable easily enough) can never again, in the English language, be express'd in arbitrary and rhyming metre, any more than the greatest eloquence, or the truest power and passion. ~ Walt Whitman
Rhyming quotes by Walt Whitman
Stretched and skewed
Tap of the 8-ball and the cue
Scratches fall through
They are the scars of you ~ Criss Jami
Rhyming quotes by Criss Jami
Out with it, Dunciad: let the secret pass -
That secret to each fool - that he's an ass.
The truth once told (and whereby should we lie?),
The queen of Midas slept, and so may I.
You think this cruel? Take it for a rule,
No creature smarts so little as a fool. ~ Alexander Pope
Rhyming quotes by Alexander Pope
Jigging veins of rhyming mother wits. ~ Christopher Marlowe

the songwriter - a reminder of all the choices - and you should use it with
gratitude. ~ William Zinsser
Rhyming quotes by William Zinsser
First book There are seven of them, haikus mostly but rhyming ones, too. Not enough for a real book until I cut each page into a small square staple the squares together, write one poem on each page. Butterflies by Jacqueline Woodson on the front. The butterfly book complete now. ~ Jacqueline Woodson
Rhyming quotes by Jacqueline Woodson
The earliest English attempts at rhyming probably included words whose agreement is so slight that it deserves the name of mere 'assonance' rather than that of actual rhyme. ~ H.P. Lovecraft
Rhyming quotes by H.P. Lovecraft
The brain best remembers things that are repeated, rhythmic, rhyming, structured, and above all easily visualized. ~ Joshua Foer
Rhyming quotes by Joshua Foer
Step, step, step, I fall and they lift me, slip-slop, slip-slop, through the watery mud. Each step is a heartbeat on my way to the grave, and the longest walk I will ever take. Plip, plip, I slip and they gather me. How strong are these savages, and how tight is their grip! Plip, plip, plip patters the rain, and I fall, and I call, and I stall for more time.

But my time has run out. ~ Louise Blackwick
Rhyming quotes by Louise Blackwick
I aint choose to rhyme, Rhyming chose me ... ~ Bubba Sparxxx
Rhyming quotes by Bubba Sparxxx
Shakespeare wrote his sonnets within a strict discipline, fourteen lines of iambic pentameter, rhyming in three quatrains and a couplet. Were his sonnets dull? Mozart wrote his sonatas within an equally rigid discipline - exposition, development, and recapitulation. Were they dull?. ~ David Ogilvy
Rhyming quotes by David Ogilvy

Rhyming quotes by Albert Schweitzer
To me, playing an instrument and singing, all of these different things are just as natural to me as rhyming. ~ Mos Def

Rappers spit rhymes that are mostly illegal,
MC's spit rhymes to uplift their people. ~ KRS-One
Rhyming quotes by KRS-One
Screaming Meemies: This is partly onomatopoeic, partly rhyming in origin. The term is first recorded in 1927 with the meaning drunkenness, but sources suggest it dates from World War I, when it referred to a certain kind of German artillery shell that made a screaming sound, approximating meem or meemie. Soldiers, hearing too many of those artillery shells, experienced shell shock, and were said to have the screaming meemies. The term later evolved to refer to drunkenness, becoming synonymous with delirium tremens (the DTs or acute alcohol withdrawal). ~ Shannon Power
Rhyming quotes by Shannon Power
Those who pose, suppose that everything goes the way of the dodos. Yet, I've met, some who bet on luck like a cashed check, that is, before a major wreck. ~ Joel T. McGrath
Rhyming quotes by Joel T. McGrath
I got into DJing and making beats when I was about 17. I was always fascinated by the four elements of hip-hop: you know, writing, rhyming, breakdancing and graffiti. ~ Abbie Cornish
Rhyming quotes by Abbie Cornish
Besides, he was suitably impressed that we chose Scotland. Puts it down to research for the role." Lainie halted in her sneaky exploration of the small of his back. "I hope not. I don't really see us as the Macbeths." "No. They got on fairly well until the regicide." "Beatrice and Benedick, maybe. With more bickering. And fewer rhyming couplets. ~ Lucy Parker
Rhyming quotes by Lucy Parker
I wonder at the starry pattern in the sky
Are they little pieces of moon which want to fly..? ~ Munia Khan
Rhyming quotes by Munia Khan
I think, people look at me, and they say, 'You were very aggressive,' I say, 'Yeah,' you know, and I've made a better life for myself, for my son, so I should reflect that with my music now. I shouldn't still be rhyming like that; that would be me lying. ~ Ice-T
Rhyming quotes by Ice-T
Let all the green leaves be mine
as long as the trees define
shades created by their limbs
for the soil made with victims
of atrocity's vileness
to redeem the fragileness ~ Munia Khan
Rhyming quotes by Munia Khan

Rhyming quotes by Alexander Pope

Rhyming quotes by Jessica Park
Rap music ... sounds like somebody feeding a rhyming dictionary to a popcorn popper. ~ Tom Robbins
Rhyming quotes by Tom Robbins
Though critics may bow to art, and I am its own true lover,
It is not art, but heart, which wins the wide world over.

Though smooth be the heartless prayer, no ear in Heaven will mind it,
And the finest phrase falls dead if there is no feeling behind it.

Though perfect the player's touch, little, if any, he sways us,
Unless we feel his heart throb through the music he plays us.

Though the poet may spend his life in skilfully rounding a measure,
Unless he writes from a full, warm heart he gives us little pleasure.

So it is not the speech which tells, but the impulse which goes with the saying;
And it is not the words of the prayer, but the yearning back of the praying.

It is not the artist's skill which into our soul comes stealing
With a joy that is almost pain, but it is the player's feeling.

And it is not the poet's song, though sweeter than sweet bells chiming,
Which thrills us through and through, but the heart which beats under the rhyming.

And therefore I say again, though I am art's own true lover,
That it is not art, but heart, which wins the wide world over. ~ Ella Wheeler Wilcox
Rhyming quotes by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Rhyming quotes by China Mieville
the more I get to know Ray, the more I hate him. The bastard is rude, crude and lewd. He's not a good dude. Yep, Dr. Seuss could write a series of adult rhyming books about that creep. ~ Elle Kennedy
Rhyming quotes by Elle Kennedy
I deliberate over the lyrics; I really do. I'll come up with one line in a day, and then it might be a couple of days before I come up with the rhyming line. It's never been easy for me. ~ Rod Stewart
Rhyming quotes by Rod Stewart
When did your name
change from a proper noun
to a charm?

Its three vowels
like jewels
on the thread of my breath.

Its consonants
brushing my mouth
like a kiss.

I love your name.
I say it again and again
in this summer rain.

I see it,
discreet in the alphabet,
like a wish.

I pray it
into the night
till its letters are light.

I hear your name
rhyming, rhyming,
rhyming with everything.

"Name ~ Carol Ann Duffy
Rhyming quotes by Carol Ann Duffy
In the boundaryless forests,
there're dancers of nude.
Yet in the confines of pasture,
there's promise of food.
On which is your side?
Ô, but tarry and bide,
ere you decide,
in both do confide. ~ Roman Payne
Rhyming quotes by Roman Payne
Collections collect collectors. It doesn't work the other way around. A certain object misses its own kind and communicates that to some person who surrounds it with rhyming items; these become at first a quorum, then a selective, addictive madness. ~ Allan Gurganus
Rhyming quotes by Allan Gurganus
Speed. O jest unseen, inscrutable, invisible,
As a nose on a man's face, or a weathercock on a steeple!
My master sues to her, and she hath taught her suitor,
He being her pupil, to become her tutor.
O excellent device! was there ever heard a better,
That my master, being scribe, to himself should write the letter?
Valentine. How now, sir? what are you reasoning with yourself?
Speed. Nay, I was rhyming: 'tis you that have the reason. ~ William Shakespeare
Rhyming quotes by William Shakespeare
The fact that something is in a rhymed form or in blank verse will not make it good poetry. ~ Robert Morgan
Rhyming quotes by Robert Morgan

Rhyming quotes by Dizzy Dean
I've always loved rhyming. I love language. ~ Mos Def
Rhyming quotes by Mos Def
A glassy calm replaced the storm surrounding their boat.
The distant thunder struck a note, white-hot and remote.
An invisible magnet seemed to steer their course.
The island pulled them in with its dreamy force. ~ J.Z. Bingham
Rhyming quotes by J.Z. Bingham
Witches, he thought. Always rhyming. ~ Nora Roberts
Rhyming quotes by Nora Roberts
February
Boris Pasternak
It's February. Get ink. Weep.
Write the heart out about it, sing
Another song of February
While raucous slush burns black with spring.
Six grivnas* for a buggy ride
Past booming bells, on screaming gears,
Out to a place where drizzles fall
Louder than any ink or tears
Where like a flock of charcoal pears,
A thousand blackbirds, ripped awry
From trees to puddles, knock dry grief
Into the deep end of the eye.
A thaw patch blackens underfoot.
The wind is gutted with a scream.
True verses are the most haphazard,
Rhyming the heart out on a theme.
*Grivna: a unit of currency. ~ Boris Pasternak
Rhyming quotes by Boris Pasternak
I'm falling apart, one part after another. Falling down on the world like snow. Half of me is already on the ground, watching from below. ~ Ashly Lorenzana
Rhyming quotes by Ashly Lorenzana
Read the Bible to the children, until they are old enough to read for themselves ... The Bible, not nursery versions of it. There is a Bible in words of one syllable; I am happy to say I have never seen it. Such a monstrosity should be put alongside of the Rhyming Bible, of which, I believe, only one copy is in existence. ~ Laura E. Richards
Rhyming quotes by Laura E. Richards
Rhyming in itself is magic. ~ Gloria Steinem
Rhyming quotes by Gloria Steinem
When I write a story, I just wanna tell you what's in my head. It can come from real life and then turn into fantasy, stuff just rhyming. And write about what you know. I just like to tell stories that have not been told or told from my perspective. ~ Nas
Rhyming quotes by Nas
You take stuff from different places, and sometimes you stick a line in because it rhymes, not because it makes sense. ~ Van Morrison
Rhyming quotes by Van Morrison
So what rhyming poems do is they take all these nearby sound curves and remind you that they first existed that way in your brain. Before they meant something specific, they had a shape and a way of being said. And now, yes, gloom and broom are floating fifty miles away from each other in you mind because they refer to different notions, but they're cheek-by-jowl as far as your tongue is concerned. And that's what a poem does. Poems match sounds up the way you matched them when you were a tiny kid, using that detachable front phoneme. ~ Nicholson Baker
Rhyming quotes by Nicholson Baker
His answer trickled through my head like water through a sieve. ~ Lewis Carroll
Rhyming quotes by Lewis Carroll
In the beginning God made the seas, the mountains, the heavens, and buffalo knees. He made lilies, and dew drops, and snail shells, and roses, and dippers, and yappers, and snappers, and noses. ~ Lois Greiman
Rhyming quotes by Lois Greiman
I'm sure 50 percent of television ads use rhyme. ~ Paul Muldoon
Rhyming quotes by Paul Muldoon
All through childhood, I wrote verses and mysteries. There is, for me, one connection: structure. My poetry is metrical, rhyming. ~ Sophie Hannah
Rhyming quotes by Sophie Hannah
Down vith children! Do them in!
Boil their bones and fry their skin!
Bish them, sqvish them, bash them, mash them!
Brrreak them, shake them, slash them, smash them!
Offer chocs vith magic powder!
Say "Eat up!" then say it louder.
Crrram them full of sticky eats,
Send them home still guzzling sveets.
And in the morning little fools
Go marching off to separate schools.
A girl feels sick and goes all pale.
She yells, "Hey look! I've grrrown a tail!"
A boy who's standing next to her
Screams, "Help! I think I'm grrrowing fur!"
Another shouts, "Vee look like frrreaks!
There's viskers growing on our cheeks!"
A boy who vos extremely tall
Cries out, "Vot's wrong? I'm grrrowing small!"
Four tiny legs begin to sprrrout
From everybody rrround about.
And all at vunce, all in a trrrice,
There are no children! Only MICE! ~ Roald Dahl
Rhyming quotes by Roald Dahl
Walk and love
We're walking in love
For the walk of love ~ Criss Jami
Rhyming quotes by Criss Jami
Criticism occupies the lowest place in the literary hierarchy: as regards form, almost always; and as regards moral value, incontestably. It comes after rhyming games and acrostics, which at least require a certain inventiveness. ~ Gustave Flaubert
