Humans have the ability to rewrite history. Within a few decades it is not even questioned. Stories of the past become as real as the world you walk through today. Wars are waged over false history. Sins are denied. All for mankind to move forward and feel comfortable about its past. Your true history is written in the stars. Look up, breathe in, and be humbled by the ones who came before you. The ones who have suffered, who have endured, who have overcome. Their blood is alive in you. Their spirits roam freely in the heavens above. ~ Jason E. Hodges
Rewrite History quotes by Jason E. Hodges
Historians constantly rewrite history, reinterpreting (reorganizing) the records of the past. So, too, when the brain's coherent responses become part of a memory, they are organized anew as part of the structure of consciousness. What makes them memories is that they become part of that structure and thus form part of the sense of self; my sense of self derives from a certainty that my experiences refer back to me, the individual who is having them. Hence the sense of the past, of history, of memory, is in part the creation of the self. ~ Israel Rosenfield
Rewrite History quotes by Israel Rosenfield
Over the course of my life I've had more than my fair share of romantic relationships with wonderful women, many moved on to live happy, healthy, and productive lives, and I'm pleased to say remain dear friends today. Sadly, there are a few who have chosen to rewrite history in an attempt to stay in the spotlight. I guess, as the old saying goes: You can't win 'em all! ~ Hugh Hefner
Rewrite History quotes by Hugh Hefner
I don't want to rewrite history. ~ Keith Fullerton Whitman

Those unuttered words of your smile can rewrite the history of this wonderful world. ~ Debasish Mridha
Rewrite History quotes by Debasish Mridha
But I can't rewrite history. I can love only with what's left. ~ Suzanne Young
Rewrite History quotes by Suzanne Young
Every new generation must rewrite history in its own way. ~ Robin G. Collingwood
Rewrite History quotes by Robin G. Collingwood
It has been said, "History is written by the victors." I take this to mean we can make ourselves victorious by writing, and then rewriting our own stories. In a country and culture so dominated by media, by the manipulation of words and stories, telling the tales of people whose stories historically have not been told is a radical act and I believe an act that can change the world and help rewrite history. ~ Jennifer Beals
Rewrite History quotes by Jennifer Beals
If any era should be aware of the temptations to rewrite history, it is our own. ~ Marjorie Garber
Rewrite History quotes by Marjorie Garber
Certainly nothing is easier than to rewrite history. If we had made Taiwan a separate state, it would have led to a fundamental conflict with China, and probably to war. Certainly in the long term, it would have led to war. ~ Henry A. Kissinger
Rewrite History quotes by Henry A. Kissinger
That is what we have in revisionist historians. It starts with their own atheism, their own unbelief, and then they go back and attempt to revise and rewrite history in their own image. ~ D. James Kennedy
Rewrite History quotes by D. James Kennedy
Why would you keep quiet and allow history to write itself when there is something you can do to rewrite history. ~ Anyaele Sam Chiyson
Rewrite History quotes by Anyaele Sam Chiyson
I can't rewrite history. ~ Pattie Boyd
Rewrite History quotes by Pattie Boyd
The world is changed because you are made of ivory and gold. The curves of your lips rewrite history. ~ Oscar Wilde
Rewrite History quotes by Oscar Wilde
If we constantly rewrite history to fit how we see things now, we forget how things used to be and, equally important to future scholars, how we used to see them. ~ Anne Summers
Rewrite History quotes by Anne Summers
To rewrite history on the bases of hypotheses which have not materialized is not only a fruitless task, but, in my eyes, meaningless. ~ Jean Monnet
Rewrite History quotes by Jean Monnet
Grace was my best friend. I can't let anyone forget her. I'm sure you understand."
Mr. Farrow smiled, but the smile didn't quite reach his eyes. "Of course, it's easy to rewrite history when we lose a loved one, isn't it? Sometimes we only remember the things we want to remember. ~ Lisa Roecker
Rewrite History quotes by Lisa Roecker
See, far above arrogance and selfishness on the rankings of undesirable Lifestyle traits, topping the lengthy list of carnal sins, occupying its very own stratosphere of unforgivable
reprehensibility, is lying. Without question, fibbing is the fastest way to secure a one-way trip to blackball status in the swing community. So assured is a liar's exile from the Lifestyle that should a perjurer come clean about a material untruth and still secure playtime, that individual will have rewritten the entire swing rulebook. And no matter how enticing it may be to rewrite history, I do not recommend attempting it. Not unless you're lusting after a celibate existence. ~ Daniel Stern
Rewrite History quotes by Daniel Stern
... I feel like he's taking advantage of me. Advantage of my illness. He thinks he can rewrite history in any way that he likes and I will never know, never be any the wiser. But I do know. I know exactly what he's doing. And so I don't trust him. In the end he is pushing me away, Dr. Nash. Ruining everything. ~ S.J. Watson
Rewrite History quotes by S.J. Watson
But I can't rewrite history. I can only live with what's left. ~ Suzanne Young
Rewrite History quotes by Suzanne Young
We have become the revisionist society. We rewrite history in favor of viewpoints. We rewrite ethics in favor of "what's right is what makes you feel good after." Political correctness puts Jesus and Buddha on the same low shelf. Gender inclusivity has us tied up in proper pronouns. Since God goes undefined, His expectations have been missing for some time, and sin is what you do that hurts others. ~ Calvin Miller
Rewrite History quotes by Calvin Miller
You cannot erase what has happened..You can rewrite history, you can "pretty it up" for posterity, but that does not make it unhappen. ~ Zsófi Teleki
Rewrite History quotes by Zsófi Teleki
If the universe is a non-spatial computer, a 'time machine' is a program that allows a user to have the same (ontologically non-spatial) feelings or experiences that occurred or s/he merely feels to have occurred in the past, with an in-built function to have different feelings or experiences than those of the past, and thus creating a possibility to change the past or to rewrite history in a pseudo sense. ~ Kedar Joshi
Rewrite History quotes by Kedar Joshi
For the first time in the history of our country the majority of our people believe that the next five years will be worse than the past five years. ~ Jimmy Carter
Rewrite History quotes by Jimmy Carter
As we struggle to overcome our troubles, we are making history and fulling our destiny. Keep pressing! ~ T. B. Joshua
Rewrite History quotes by T. B. Joshua
It is difficult to imagine any time in history when so many people claiming to be so free have lived in so much fear of being unattractive. ~ Michael Leunig
Rewrite History quotes by Michael Leunig
. 'In religion itself there is nothing mysterious to its author,' Madison wrote in 1792. 'The mystery lies in the dimness of the human sight.' If it is ultimately impossible for mortals to know God's mind, the history of persecution becomes cosmically tragic - two thousand years of dogmatic men burning one another over religious ideas whose veracity only God can know. ~ Steven Waldman
Rewrite History quotes by Steven Waldman
We are never as steeped in history as when we pretend not to be, but if we stop pretending we may gain in understanding what we lose in false innocence. Naiveté is often an excuse for those who exercise power. For those upon whom that power is exercised, naiveté is always a mistake. ~ Michel-Rolph Trouillot
Rewrite History quotes by Michel-Rolph Trouillot
The Ptolemaic system has been compared to that of Soviet Russia; it stands among the most closely controlled economies in history. ~ Stacy Schiff
Rewrite History quotes by Stacy Schiff
History is a yarn. And can I deny that what I wanted all along was not some golden nugget that history would at last yield up, but History itself: the Grand Narrative, the filler of vacuums, the dispeller of fears of the dark? ~ Graham Swift
Rewrite History quotes by Graham Swift
I think it's also the case that I'm not as widely travelled, or as well-educated in history, as most of the other novelists I meet: so I have to write about my own country, at the present time, because it's more or less all I know about! ~ Jonathan Coe
Rewrite History quotes by Jonathan Coe
These people who were used to walking around the desert without clothing could not understand why or what covering one's nakedness had to do with the seeking and the acceptance of food and sanctuary. ~ Doris Pilkington
Rewrite History quotes by Doris Pilkington
There are heroes and, emphatically, heroines enough in this history. Yielding to the temptation to focus on their courage, however, may miss the point. Part of the legacy of people like Ella Baker and Septima Clark is a faith that ordinary people who learn to believe in themselves are capable of extraordinary acts, or better, of acts that seem extraordinary to us precisely because we have such an impoverished sense of the capabilities of ordinary people. ~ Charles M. Payne
Rewrite History quotes by Charles M. Payne
Thousands, if not millions, of people had exchanged life for the negation of life simply so that someone like me could have the pleasure of riding in a taxi. And now thousands more were throwing away their lives in order to try and eliminate global suffering, and they didn't see the senselessness of that, though it screamed out from every page of history and from every street-corner; in the scream you could hear the universal lack of order and lack of satisfaction and all the other shortcomings which were in fact the very essence of life - remove them, do away with them, and what would be left? ~ Leonid Borodin
Rewrite History quotes by Leonid Borodin
But the failure of Christianity is a modern myth, and we shouldn't be ashamed of telling the proper story of church history, which of course has plenty of muddle and wickedness, but also far more than we normally imagine of love and creativity and beauty and justice and healing and education and hope. To ~ N. T. Wright
Rewrite History quotes by N. T. Wright
Together we understood what terror was: you're not human anymore. You're a shadow. You slip out of your own skin, like molting, shedding your own history and your own future, leaving behind everything you ever were or wanted to believed in. You know you're about to die. And it's not a movie and you aren't a hero and all you can do is whimper and wait. ~ Tim O'Brien
Rewrite History quotes by Tim O'Brien
The ruinous deeds of the ravaging foe

(Beowulf)

The best-known long text in Old English is the epic poem Beowulf. Beowulf himself is a classic hero, who comes from afar. He has defeated the mortal enemy of the area - the monster Grendel - and has thus made the territory safe for its people. The people and the setting are both Germanic. The poem recalls a shared heroic past, somewhere in the general consciousness of the audience who would hear it.
It starts with a mention of 'olden days', looking back, as many stories do, to an indefinite past ('once upon a time'), in which fact blends with fiction to make the tale. But the hero is a mortal man, and images of foreboding and doom prepare the way for a tragic outcome. He will be betrayed, and civil war will follow. Contrasts between splendour and destruction, success and failure, honour and betrayal, emerge in a story which contains a great many of the elements of future literature. Power, and the battles to achieve and hold on to power, are a main theme of literature in every culture - as is the theme of transience and mortality.
................
Beowulf can be read in many ways: as myth; as territorial history of the Baltic kingdoms in which it is set; as forward-looking reassurance. Questions of history, time and humanity are at the heart of it: it moves between past, present, and hope for the future, and shows its origins in oral tradition. It is full of human speech and sonorous images, ~ Ronald Carter

An important part of what the state does is preserving its history. ~ James R. Thompson
Rewrite History quotes by James R. Thompson
But I have learned that if we have to change the world, we can't harden our hearts and shut ourselves off from other cultures. We must open up our hearts. We must not fall prey to the kind of thinking that separates us. Yes, you can appreciate your history and your culture. You can embrace it. But you can embrace other cultures too. And, yes, you can be angry and seek justice when you are attacked. I want the killers who targeted my people to face justice. But going forward, I don't want to spread the seeds of separation. I want to open myself to people of all races, cultures, and faiths. ~ Sandra Uwiringiyimana
Rewrite History quotes by Sandra Uwiringiyimana
So I talk about original cultures that saw the presence of god in all living things- including women. Only in the last five hundred to five thousand years- depending on where we live in the world- has godliness been withdrawn from particular races of men, all in order to allow the conquering of nature, females, and certain races of men. Though patriarchal cultures and religions have made hierarchy seem inevitable, humans for 95 percent of history have been more likely to see the circle as our natural paradigm. ~ Gloria Steinem
Rewrite History quotes by Gloria Steinem
It came to me more as a whisper of suggestion than the fundamental adage that it is - if this is not biblical, I shall always believe it should be - that all of us need someone who loves us enough to forgive us despite the history. ~ Ivan Doig
Rewrite History quotes by Ivan Doig
Any woman who has devoted herself to raising children has experienced the hollow praise that only thinly conceals smug dismissal. In a culture that measures worth and achievement almost solely in terms of money, the intensive work of rearing responsible adults counts for little. One of the most intriguing questions in economic history is how this came to be; how mothers came to be excluded from the ranks of productive citizens. How did the demanding job of rearing a modern child come to be termed baby-sitting? When did caring for children become a 'labor of love,;' smothered under a blanket of sentimentality that hides its economic importance? ~ Ann Crittenden
Rewrite History quotes by Ann Crittenden
With each passing decade, history becomes less real for us, less immediate and essential to our way of life, and so, like 'green' nature, more of a commodity or an advertising gimmick. ~ John Burnside
Rewrite History quotes by John Burnside
A rejection of absolutism, in all its forms, may sometimes slip into moral relativism or even nihilism, an erosion of values that hold society together, but for most of our history it has encouraged the very process of information gathering, analysis, argument, and persuasion which allows us to make better, if not perfect, choices – not only about the means to our ends, but also the ends themselves. ~ Barack Obama
Rewrite History quotes by Barack Obama
My name is Sherman Alexie and I was born from loss and loss and loss and loss and loss and loss and loss and loss and loss and loss and loss and loss and loss.

And loss. ~ Sherman Alexie
Rewrite History quotes by Sherman Alexie
In all history, there is no instance of a country having benefited from prolonged warfare. Only one who knows the disastrous effects of a long war can realize the supreme importance of rapidity in bringing it to a close. ~ Sun Tzu
Rewrite History quotes by Sun Tzu
The most exemplary nature is that of the topsoil. It is very Christ-like in its passivity and beneficence, and in the penetrating energy that issues out of its peaceableness. It increases by experience, by the passage of seasons over it, growth rising out of it and returning to it, not by ambition or aggressiveness. It is enriched by all things that die and enter into it. It keeps the past, not as history or as memory, but as richness, new possibility. Its fertility is always building up out of death into promise. Death is the bridge or the tunnel by which its past enters its future. ~ Wendell Berry
Rewrite History quotes by Wendell Berry
I felt a tightening in my chest, a sharp spike of intense sadness-almost like nostalgia, except it was for a life I never had. ~ Katie Alender
Rewrite History quotes by Katie Alender
With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own. ~ John F. Kennedy
Rewrite History quotes by John F. Kennedy
Where you are born
what you are born into, the place, the history of the place, how that history mates with your own
stamps who you are, whatever the pundits of globalisation have to say. ~ Jeanette Winterson
Rewrite History quotes by Jeanette Winterson
No greater nor more affectionate honor can be conferred on an American than to have a public school named after him. ~ Herbert Hoover
Rewrite History quotes by Herbert Hoover
The great sadness," Helms said in an oral history recorded for the LBJ Library, "was our ignorance - or innocence, if you like - which led us to mis-assess, not comprehend, and make a lot of wrong decisions. ~ Tim Weiner

There is a noble and a base side to every history. ~ Thomas Wentworth Higginson
Rewrite History quotes by Thomas Wentworth Higginson
Exposition: the workings of the actual past + the virtual past may be illustrated by an event well known to collective history, such as the sinking of the Titanic. The disaster as it actually occurred descends into obscurity as its eyewitnesses die off, documents perish + the wreck of the ship dissolves in its Atlantic grave. Yet a virtual sinking of the Titanic, created from reworked memories, papers, hearsay, fiction--in short, belief--grows ever "truer." The actual past is brittle, ever-dimming + ever more problematic to access + reconstruct: in contrast, the virtual past is malleable, ever-brightening + ever more difficult to circumvent/expose as fraudulent.

The present presses the virtual past into its own service, to lend credence to its mythologies + legitimacy to the imposition of will. Power seeks + is the right to "landscape" the virtual past. (He who pays the historian calls the tune.)

Symmetry demands an actual + virtual future too. We imagine how next week, next year, or 2225 will shape up--a virtual future, constructed by wishes, prophecies + daydreams. This virtual future may influence the actual future, as in a self-fulfilling prophecy, but the actual future will eclipse our virtual one as surely as tomorrow eclipses today. Like Utopia, the actual future + the actual past exist only in the hazy distance, where they are no good to anyone.

Q: Is there a meaningful distinction between one simulacrum of smoke, mirrors + shadows--t ~ David Mitchell
Rewrite History quotes by David Mitchell
Stories inside, each one nested within all the others; as though all the stories we had ever been inside of lay still nested inside of us, back to the beginning, whenever that is or was. Stories are what the history not made of time is made of. Funny, ~ John Crowley
Rewrite History quotes by John Crowley
The financial history of the last century shows a steady increase in the amount of public indebtedness. Nobody believes that the states will eternally drag the burden of these interest payments. It is obvious that sooner or later all these debts will be liquidated in some way or other, but certainly not by payment of interest and principal according to the terms of the contract. ~ Ludwig Von Mises
Rewrite History quotes by Ludwig Von Mises
The tide of history only advances when people make themselves fully visible. ~ Anderson Cooper
Rewrite History quotes by Anderson Cooper
The Christian faith does not call for us to put our minds on the shelf, to fly in the face of common sense and history, or to make a leap of faith into the dark. The rational person, fully apprised of the evidence, can confidently believe ... ~ William Lane Craig
Rewrite History quotes by William Lane Craig
It's all very romantic," Gabriel said, and then frowned. "Or it would be, if my brother could get a word out without sounding like a choking frog. I fear he will not go down in history as one of the world's greatest wooers of women. ~ Cassandra Clare
Rewrite History quotes by Cassandra Clare
Look at the chaos of European history. Europeans cannot believe in certainty. But Americans believe in certainty. Americans think this can go on like this forever. Just as it is. No change. ~ Carl Andre

One of the most enduring friendships in history - dogs and their people, people and their dogs. ~ Terry Kay
