Don't you see, if when we die there's nothing, all your sun and fields and what not are all, ah, horror? It's just an ocean of horror. ~ John Updike
Reticulus Fields quotes by John Updike
And, Joey, if you ever want to know about the japonicas and the daisy fields it will be alright that you have forgotten because I will be able to tell you about how it felt to be feeling that way you cannot quite remember – that will be for the time when something happens years from now that reminds you of now. ~ Zelda Fitzgerald
Reticulus Fields quotes by Zelda Fitzgerald
GARDENS OR FIELDS? Craig Blomberg points out that in Matthew's parable of the mustard seed, the sower sows his seed in a "field" (agros, Matt 13:31), while in Luke the sowing is in a "garden" (kepos, Luke 13:19). Jews never grew mustard plants in gardens, but always out on farms, while Greeks in the Mediterranean basin did the opposite. It appears that each gospel writer was changing the word that Jesus used in Mark - the word for "earth" or "ground" (ge, Mark 4:31) - for the sake of his hearers. There is a technical contradiction between the Matthean and Lukan terms, states Blomberg, "but not a material one. Luke changes the wording precisely so that his audience is not distracted from ... the lesson by puzzling over an ... improbable practice." The result is that Luke's audience "receives his teaching with the same impact as the original audience."22 ~ Timothy Keller
Reticulus Fields quotes by Timothy Keller
History is something that very few people have been doing while everyone else was ploughing fields and carrying water buckets. ~ Yuval Noah Harari
Reticulus Fields quotes by Yuval Noah Harari
Taxi September along Jessore Road Oxcart skeletons drag charcoal load past watery fields thru rain flood ruts Dung cakes on treetrunks, plastic-roof huts Wet processions Families walk Stunted boys big heads don't talk Look bony skulls & silent round eyes Starving black angels in human disguise. ~ Allen Ginsberg
Reticulus Fields quotes by Allen Ginsberg
Some fall in glorious ways. One green fields of battle as old warriors, surrounded by friends, fighting for their homes, fighting cruelty.

Some fall crawling in the dirt of Forrestville, Tennessee, in the dark, impossibly young and alone, for no good reason at all. ~ Jeff Zentner
Reticulus Fields quotes by Jeff Zentner
In Charly Cruz's garage there was a mural painted on one of the cement walls. The mural was six feet tall and maybe ten feet long and showed the Virgin of Guadalupe in the middle of a lush landscape of rivers and forests and gold mines and silver mines and oil rigs and giant cornfields and wheat fields and vast meadows where cattle grazed. The Virgin had her arms spread wide, as if offering all of these riches in exchange for nothing. But despite being drunk, Fate noticed right away there was something wrong about her face. One of the Virgin's eyes was open and the other eye was closed. ~ Roberto Bolano
Reticulus Fields quotes by Roberto Bolano
Most of what's known about religious practices in pre-Hispanic Mexico has come to us through a Catholic parish priest named Hernando Ruiz de Alarcón, one of the few who ever became fluent in the Nahuatl language. He spent the 1620s writing his "Treatise on the Superstitions and Heathen Customs that Today Live Among the Indians Native to This New Spain". He'd originally meant it to be something of a "field guide to the heathens" to help priests recognize and exterminate indigenous religious rites and their practitioners. In the process of his documentation, though, it's clear from his writings that Father Ruiz de Alarcón grew sympathetic. He was particularly fascinated with how Nahuatl people celebrated the sacred in ordinary objects, and encouraged living and spirit realities to meet up in the here and now. He noted that the concept of "death" as an ending did not exactly exist for them. When Aztec people left their bodies, they were presumed to be on an exciting trip through the ether. It wasn't something to cry about, except that the living still wanted to visit with them. People's sadness was not for the departed, but for themselves, and could be addressed through ritual visiting called Xantolo, an ordinary communion between the dead and the living. Mexican tradition still holds that Xantolo is always present in certain places and activities, including marigold fields, the cultivation of corn, the preparation of tamales and pan de muerto. Interestingly, farmers' markets ar ~ Barbara Kingsolver
Reticulus Fields quotes by Barbara Kingsolver
Thank you for this honor. It was most unexpected, and I must say, undeserved. The only memorial I would ask of you is that you love your children, encourage them in following their dreams, and treat them as the treasures they are. Do this, and my sacrifice is well justified. Thank you." Thankfully, ~ Bryan Fields
Reticulus Fields quotes by Bryan Fields
I'm not an athlete; I'm a quarterback. I don't have great speed, and I can't throw 90 yards down the field. I win games because I've done the mental preparation. ~ Joey Harrington
Reticulus Fields quotes by Joey Harrington
Answered prayers cover the field of providential history as flowers cover western prairies. ~ Theodore L. Cuyler
Reticulus Fields quotes by Theodore L. Cuyler
We, and the universe we live in, produce and operate in a sea of natural and unnatural electrical and magnetic fields. The earth, for example, pulses at about 10 Hz, like a small engine. Our bodies, as you may remember from chapter 1, are really electromagnetic machines. We simply can't move a muscle or produce a thought without an electrical impulse - and wherever there is electricity, a magnetic field is also produced, which is why we link the two together into one word: electromagnetic."

Ann Louise Gittleman ~ Ann Louise Gittleman
Reticulus Fields quotes by Ann Louise Gittleman
Unfortunately, in the field of evolution most explanations are not good. As a matter of fact, they hardly qualify as explanations at all; they are suggestions, hunches, pipe dreams, hardly worthy of being called hypotheses. ~ Norman Macbeth
Reticulus Fields quotes by Norman Macbeth
Divine nature gave us fields, human skill built our cities. -Divina natura dedit agros, ars humana aedificavit urbes ~ Marcus Terentius Varro
Reticulus Fields quotes by Marcus Terentius Varro
The best six doctors anywhere
And no one can deny it
Are sunshine, water, rest, and air
Exercise and diet.
These six will gladly you attend
If only you are willing
Your mind they'll ease
Your will they'll mend
And charge you not a shilling.
Nursery rhyme quoted by Wayne Fields, What the River Knows, 1990 ~ Wayne Fields
Reticulus Fields quotes by Wayne Fields
Two middle-aged American couples came back from the dining car and, as soon as they could see Mt. Fuji, past Numazu, stood at the windows eagerly taking photographs. By the time Fuji was completely visible, down to the fields at its base, they seemed tired of photographing and had turned their backs to it. The ~ Yasunari Kawabata
Reticulus Fields quotes by Yasunari Kawabata
Deep inside, we're still the boys of autumn, that magic time of the year that once swept us onto America's fields. ~ Archie Manning
Reticulus Fields quotes by Archie Manning
Light will be thrown on the origin of man and his history. ~ Charles Darwin
Reticulus Fields quotes by Charles Darwin
Every one is born with a story and a dream. ~ Dionne L. Fields
Reticulus Fields quotes by Dionne L. Fields
And somehow or other, the windows being open, and the book held so that it rested upon a background of escallonia hedges and distant blue, instead of being a book it seemed as if what I read was laid upon the landscape not printed, bound, or sewn up, but somehow the product of trees and fields and the hot summer sky, like the air which swam, on fine mornings, round the outline of things. ~ Virginia Woolf
Reticulus Fields quotes by Virginia Woolf
The big problem in America is that everyone is spending 2-3 hours a day watching TV. If you spend that same amount of time reading, you'll be in the top 1% of whatever your field is. ~ Jack Canfield
Reticulus Fields quotes by Jack Canfield
Our government needs to adopt a pro-market agenda that doesn't pick winners and losers, but it invites competition and it levels the playing field for everyone. ~ Sarah Palin
Reticulus Fields quotes by Sarah Palin
I raised my cup in salute. "We are out to save the world and we are riding Dragons. It's a Big Damn Quest and we are Big Damn Heroes." Ember ~ Bryan Fields
Reticulus Fields quotes by Bryan Fields
The only time I got the absolute most insanely nervous in my life was at the Olympic trials, because archery is a horrible spectator sport. Nobody goes and watches an archery tournament. Because the targets are three-quarters of a football field away. Who can tell who's winning? You can't even see your own target from where you are. ~ Geena Davis
Reticulus Fields quotes by Geena Davis
At the end of the day, when all is said and done playing this game ... it doesn't matter what you did in the field, it's what you do off the field and the lives that you touch off the field. ~ Albert Pujols
Reticulus Fields quotes by Albert Pujols
Why use up the forests which were centuries in the making and the mines which required ages to lay down, if we can get the equivalent of forest and mineral products in the annual growth of the hemp fields? ~ Henry Ford
Reticulus Fields quotes by Henry Ford
Be great at what you do, and don't ever settle for mediocrity or else you will always wonder how great you could have been. ~ Debbi Fields
Reticulus Fields quotes by Debbi Fields
It is less easy to find people in the woods and fields. And if you are supposed to be on the road, there is some chance that you will be looked for on the road and not off it.
-Frodo Baggins ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Reticulus Fields quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
doing God's will, eating the meat of the Word, is not listening to a Bible teacher, but going and doing what it says, especially as it relates to working in the harvest fields. ~ Bill Johnson
Reticulus Fields quotes by Bill Johnson
There are two healings: nature's, and ours and nature's. Nature's will come in spite of us, after us, over the graves of its wasters, as it comes to the forsaken fields. The healing that is ours and nature's will come if we are willing, if we are patient, if we know the way, if we will do the work. ~ Wendell Berry
Reticulus Fields quotes by Wendell Berry
And suddenly it came to him. That Strawberry Fields garden he'd come from, and the Freedom Tower he'd been thinking of: taken together, didn't they contain the two words that said it all about this city, the two words that really mattered? It seemed to him that they did. Two words: the one an invitation, the other an ideal, an adventure, a necessity. "Imagine" said the garden. "Freedom" said the tower. Imagine freedom. That was the spirit, the message of this city he loved. You really didn't need anything more. Dream it and do it. But first you must dream it. ~ Edward Rutherfurd
Reticulus Fields quotes by Edward Rutherfurd
Now, what is food? Why is food so important? Why do human beings need so much of it - three times a day, every day, year after year? Why do they live on food instead of on something else? Wouldn't it be better if human beings didn't need food at all? Wouldn't it be better if they could live on air, for instance? Get stronger and bigger by breathing sea air, or the air of the mountains, or the forests, or the meadows, or the vineyards and orchards, the wheat fields, the gardens all over the world? Wouldn't that be a better way for men to stay alive?
(spoken by 10-year-old Aram Saroyan) ~ William, Saroyan
Reticulus Fields quotes by William, Saroyan
The spirit of a country, if it is to be true to itself, needs continually to draw great breaths of inspiration from the simple realities of the country; from the smell of its soil, the pattern of its fields, the beauty of its scenery and from the men and women who dwell and toil in the rural areas ~ George Stapledon
Reticulus Fields quotes by George Stapledon
A mud-stained sunlight began to splatter the sodden fields, and the hateful, nasal world of birds began to come to life. It seemed to me that I was coming out of a suffocating nightmare and that the low clouds flying before the wind were the shreds of an evil dream. ~ Blaise Cendrars
Reticulus Fields quotes by Blaise Cendrars
Across the San Joaquin valley, across California, across the entire nation, wherever there are injustices against men and women and children who work in the fields - there you will see our flags - with the black eagle with the white and red background, flying. Our movement is spreading like flames across a dry plain. ~ Cesar Chavez
Reticulus Fields quotes by Cesar Chavez
Without extraneous words or phrases or clauses, there will be room for implication. The longer the sentence, the less it's able to imply, And writing by implication should be one of your goals. Implication is almost nonexistent in the prose that surrounds you, The prose of law, science, business, journalism, and most academic fields. It was nonexistent in the way you were taught to write. That means you don't know how to use one of a writer's most important tools: The ability to suggest more than the words seem to allow, The ability to speak to the reader in silence. ~ Verlyn Klinkenborg
Reticulus Fields quotes by Verlyn Klinkenborg
If the planters carry politics into the fields they will find it bad business. ~ Charles E. Merrill
Reticulus Fields quotes by Charles E. Merrill
Every journey we take begins with baby steps, baby talk and it helps us to grow healthy and strong towards our different fields we are embarking on. ~ Euginia Herlihy
Reticulus Fields quotes by Euginia Herlihy
So, it comes to pass that, when we pursue an inquiry beyond a certain depth, we step out of the field of psychological categories and enter the sphere of the ultimate mysteries of life. The floorboards of the soul, to which we try to penetrate, fan open and reveal the starry firmament. ~ Bruno Schulz
Reticulus Fields quotes by Bruno Schulz
How glad I am that spring has come, and how it calms my mind when wearied with study to walk out in the green fields and beside the pleasant streams in which South Hadley is rich! ... The older I grow, the more do I love spring and spring flowers. Is it not so with you? (May 16, 1848 to Abiah Root) ~ Emily Dickinson
Reticulus Fields quotes by Emily Dickinson
There is a sacred calling on your life, and the question is: Will you spend your life flittering and fluttering about or take the time and really heed that call and create your own path to your highest good? ... You cannot let other people define your life for you. You are the author of your own life ... Real power is when you are doing exactly what you are supposed to be doing, the best it can be done. Authentic power. There's a surge, there's a kind of energy field that says, "I'm in my groove, I'm in my groove." And nobody has to tell you, "You go, girl," because you know you're already gone. ~ Oprah Winfrey
Reticulus Fields quotes by Oprah Winfrey
Half a century of digging among the ruins of the past had made me painfully familiar with the feet of clay which were buried deeply in the sands of time and which only too often supported the magnificent superstructure of some of the statues erected to our departed gods and half-gods. But, on the other hand, where would we have been - yes, where would we be today - unless occasionally there had been feet of granite, willing and able to carry their owners into the realm of the unknown and find new roads toward progress? The answer was - nowhere at all. We needed those voortrekkers, as our South African cousins used to call them. We needed a few stout hearts to do the pioneering. Without those men and women who trekked ahead of the rest of the crowd and either found new grazing fields or died in the attempt, no one of us would ever have gotten very far. We would have been obliged to stick to the swampy coastal regions, where we had lived and died until then, since the beginning of time, and we would never have known what lay hidden beyond the distant mountain ranges. ~ Hendrik Willem Van Loon
Reticulus Fields quotes by Hendrik Willem Van Loon
In most fields of endeavor there are no easy jobs; there are only graceful ways of performing difficult ones. ~ Lynda Obst
Reticulus Fields quotes by Lynda Obst
God bless those runners because they get you the first down, give you ball control and keep your defense off the field. But if you want to ring the cash register, you have to pass. ~ Sid Gillman
Reticulus Fields quotes by Sid Gillman
In the checkered area of human experience the seasons are all mingled as in the golden age: fruit and blossom hang together; in the same moment the sickle is reaping and the seed is sprinkled; one tends the green cluster and another treads the winepress. Nay, in each of our lives harvest and spring-time are continually one, until himself gathers us and sows us anew in his invisible fields. ~ George Eliot
Reticulus Fields quotes by George Eliot
Losing touch with spirit does nothing to the field of creativity, which is beyond harm; but it can do much to damage a person's chance in life. ~ Deepak Chopra
Reticulus Fields quotes by Deepak Chopra
When I started finishing games and coming off the field shaking hands, it was a beautiful thing. I mean, you start seeing that you're an important part of the team. ~ Dennis Eckersley
