You`re learning, friend.`
`The lessons of civilization.`
`Just so. There`s little value in seeking to find reasons for why people do what they do, or feel the way they feel. Hatred is a most pernicious weed, finding root in any kind of soil. It feeds on itself.`
`With words.`
`Indeedm with words. Form an opinion, say it ofren enough and pretty soon everyone`s saying it right back at you, and then it becomes a conviction, fed by unreasoning anger and defended with a fight to the death. ~ Steven Erikson
Re Learning quotes by Steven Erikson
Here is a book to savor?flavorful and nutritious, it sticks to the mind's ribs. The 'New Agrarianism' is about Americans re-learning how to care for the land, and Eric Freyfogle has thoughtfully assembled a banquet of eloquent voices. ~ Tony Hiss
Re Learning quotes by Tony Hiss
When clients relinquish symptoms, succeed in achieving a personal goal, or make healthier choices for themselves, subsequently many will feel anxious, guilty, or depressed. That is, when clients make progress in treatment and get better, new therapists understandably are excited. But sometimes they will also be dismayed as they watch the client sabotage her success by gaining back unwanted weight or missing the next session after an important breakthrough and deep sharing with the therapist. Thus, loyalty and allegiance to symptoms - maladaptive behaviors originally developed to manage the "bad" or painfully frustrating aspects of parents - are not maladaptive to insecurely attached children. Such loyalty preserves "object ties," or the connection to the "good" or loving aspects of the parent. Attachment fears of being left alone, helpless, or unwanted can be activated if clients disengage from the symptoms that represent these internalized "bad" objects (for example, if the client resolves an eating disorder or terminates a problematic relationship with a controlling/jealous partner). The goal of the interpersonal process approach is to help clients modify these early maladaptive schemas or internal working models by providing them with experiential or in vivo re-learning (that is, a "corrective emotional experience"). Through this real-life experience with the therapist, clients learn that, at least sometimes, some relationships can be different and do not have to follow th ~ Edward Teyber
Re Learning quotes by Edward Teyber
We learn something every day, and lots of times it's that what we learned the day before was wrong. ~ Bill Vaughan
Re Learning quotes by Bill Vaughan
I wanted to be understood. As a human-being, and as a writer. That meant getting to (truly) know myself- away from the opinions, beliefs, assumptions, criticism, and judgement of others. It meant re-learning language... to speak concisely. It meant learning the language of my heart and soul. ~ Cheri Bauer
Re Learning quotes by Cheri Bauer
Learning the craft as an actor in Los Angeles is a very hard thing to do, in my opinion. We all come from a certain world and when you start learning the craft, you need material to read/study that you can relate to. We do not have too many Latino writers on the West Coast that I was able to relate to (or at least, I didn't know at the time). I came from the streets, so the most published authors had no relation to my world. As soon as I picked up Pinero & Guirgis, it was all over. It was my world, just in a different location. They cracked me open inside and out. ~ Richard Cabral
Re Learning quotes by Richard Cabral
I'm taking drama classes, they say I'm a natural actress. I think it's just because I talk a lot. I'm also learning how to play guitar and piano. Piano is really hard though. My dad is teaching me and I just get so confused because the chords are so different, but by learning I hope to be able to be a songwriter as well. ~ Lindsay Pagano
Re Learning quotes by Lindsay Pagano
How do we nurture the soul? By revering our own life. By learning to love it all, not only the joys and the victories, but also the pain and the struggles. ~ Nathaniel Branden
Re Learning quotes by Nathaniel Branden
The great teachers fill you up with hope and shower you with a thousand reasons to embrace all aspects of life. I wanted to follow Mr. Monte around for the rest of my life, learning everything he wished to share of impart, but I didn't know how to ask. ~ Pat Conroy
Re Learning quotes by Pat Conroy
Learning is indeed a lifelong process. And as Alison Gopnik and colleagues argued in another recent book, every time the infant learns something, his or her brain is changed in a way that helps it learn something else. In a review of this book, a prominent developmental expert, Mark Johnson, noted that the early years are crucial not because the window of opportunity closes but because what is learned at this time becomes the foundation for subsequent learning. Indeed, much of the self is learned by making new memories out of old ones. Just as learning is the process of creating memories, the memories created are dependent on things we've learned before. ~ Joseph E. LeDoux
Re Learning quotes by Joseph E. LeDoux
One of the first things a family tries to teach its children is the difference between good and evil, right and wrong. One of the first things our schools do is destroy that distinction. ~ John Taylor Gatto
Re Learning quotes by John Taylor Gatto
What do you think of this stuff?' he asked.

I looked at the bottle and discovered that it contained a miracle udder liniment, guaranteed to reduce pain and swelling. 'I've seen the ad in the Dairy Exporter, but that's about it,' I said. 'Does it work?' Personally I doubted that it would, since it's a bit of a stretch to ask something you rub on the skin to kill the bacteria lurking in the tissues ten centimetres down, but I had learnt through bitter experience that belittling someone's pet alternative treatment is almost as offensive as telling them their kid looks funny. (My all-time low was attending a cat after-hours wearing a T-shirt which read Homeopathy, making damn-all difference since 1796, and then learning that the cat's owner was a certified homeopath.) ~ Danielle Hawkins
Re Learning quotes by Danielle Hawkins
We, as we read, must become Greeks, Romans, Turks, priest and king, martyr and executioner; must fasten these images to some reality in our secret experience, or we shall learn nothing rightly. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Re Learning quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Some of us are just less damaged than others. ~ R. Buckminster Fuller
Re Learning quotes by R. Buckminster Fuller
Moreover, they who returned, if any, would be flogged, as seemed proper, after due examination. And though the news of their beatings might help all others to hesitation, ere they did foolishly, in like fashion, yet was the principle of the flogging not on this base, which would be both improper and unjust; but only that the one in question be corrected to the best advantage for his own well-being; for it is not meet that any principle of correction should shape to the making of human signposts of pain for the benefit of others; for in verity, this were to make one pay the cost of many's learning; and each should owe to pay only so much as shall suffice for the teaching of his own body and spirit. And if others profit thereby, this is but accident, however helpful. And this is wisdom, and denoteth now that a sound Principle shall prevent Practice from becoming monstrous. ~ William Hope Hodgson
Re Learning quotes by William Hope Hodgson
I'm happy with the amount of success I've achieved. I feel like I'm getting better every day and I'm always learning. I don't take anything for granted and I've gained a deeper perspective on things. ~ Bill Kirchen
Re Learning quotes by Bill Kirchen
The most necessary learning is that which unlearns evil. ~ Antisthenes
Re Learning quotes by Antisthenes
I could teach an eighth-grader in twenty minutes how to brief a case. Yet for all three years in most law schools the casebook method of learning the law is still in. The matriculating young lawyer is as qualified to represent a client with the education he has suffered through as a doctor who has never seen a patient, who has never held a scalpel in his hand and who learns surgery by having read text books about it and becomes skilled in surgery, if ever, after having stacked up piles of corpses who represent his pathetic learning process. ~ Gerry Spence
Re Learning quotes by Gerry Spence
veryone is capable of learning; the trick is knowing what you need to learn. ~ Donna Snyder-Smith
Re Learning quotes by Donna Snyder-Smith
Incidentally, I use the word reader very loosely. Curiously enough, one cannot read a book: one can only reread it. A good reader, a major reader, an active and creative reader is a rereader. And I shall tell you why. When we read a book for the very first time the very process of laboriously moving our eyes from left to right, line after line, page after page, this complicated physical work upon the book, the very process of learning in terms of space and time what the book is about, this stands between us and artistic appreciation. When we look at a painting we do not have to move our eyes in a special way even if, as in a book, the picture contains elements of depth and development. The element of time does not really enter in a first contact with a painting. In reading a book, we must have time to acquaint ourselves with it. We have no physical organ (as we have the eye in regard to a painting) that takes in the whole picture and then can enjoy its details. But at a second, or third, or fourth reading we do, in a sense, behave towards a book as we do towards a painting. However, let us not confuse the physical eye, that monstrous masterpiece of evolution, with the mind, an even more monstrous achievement. A book, no matter what it is-a work of fiction or a work of science (the boundary between the two is not as clear as is generally believed)-a book of fiction appeals first of all to the mind. The mind, the brain, the top of the tingling spine, is, or should be, the only ~ Vladimir Nabokov
Re Learning quotes by Vladimir Nabokov
I won't ask for forgiveness, but I am so very sorry," he said, with the simple brevity she was learning to expect. She pressed her lips into his soft, dark hair. "I know." He ~ Renee Ahdieh
Re Learning quotes by Renee Ahdieh
The zazen I speak of is not learning meditation. It is simply the Dharma gate of repose and bliss, the practice-realization of totally culminated enlightenment. It is the manifestation of ultimate reality. Traps and snares can never reach it. Once its heart is grasped, you are like the dragon when he gains the water, like the tiger when she enters the mountain. For you must know that just there (in zazen) the right Dharma is manifesting itself and that, from the first, dullness and distraction are struck aside. ~ Dogen
Re Learning quotes by Dogen
In the end, the humanities can only be defended by stressing how indispensable they are; and this means insisting on their vital role in the whole business of academic learning, rather than protesting that, like some poor relation, they don't cost much to be housed. ~ Terry Eagleton
Re Learning quotes by Terry Eagleton
Scientists have shown that pigs are capable of playing simple video games, learning from each other, and even learning names. ~ Jane Velez-Mitchell
Re Learning quotes by Jane Velez-Mitchell
God is in the details. ~ Gustave Flaubert
Re Learning quotes by Gustave Flaubert
We are a long time in learning that all our strength and salvation is in God. ~ David Brainerd
Re Learning quotes by David Brainerd
they would get praise for taking initiative, for seeing a difficult task through, for struggling and learning something new, for being undaunted by a setback, or for being open to and acting on criticism. ~ Carol S. Dweck
Re Learning quotes by Carol S. Dweck
Change Agents have a "learning wheel" in their mind. ~ Pearl Zhu
Re Learning quotes by Pearl Zhu
Conversation is the laboratory and workshop of the student. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Re Learning quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Preachers are not sermon makers, but men makers and saint makers, and he only is well-trained for this business who has made himself a man and a saint. It is not great talents nor great learning nor great preachers that God needs, but men great in holiness, great in faith, great in love, great in fidelity, great for God - men always preaching by holy sermons in the pulpit, by holy lives out of it. These can mold a generation for God. ~ Edward McKendree Bounds
Re Learning quotes by Edward McKendree Bounds
At the source of every error which is blamed on the computer, you will find at least two human errors, one of which is the error of blaming it on the computer. ~ Tom Gilb
Re Learning quotes by Tom Gilb
If you play the game and you think about coaching, you should know it's about listening to people and learning. ~ Warren Gatland
Re Learning quotes by Warren Gatland
It's a big theme in my life, learning about myself and being a better person. I'm a work in progress; I have revelations every day. ~ Rick Rubin
Re Learning quotes by Rick Rubin
So there was something of a learning curve with doing your own thing and people seeing you outside of the band. I mean, people have never really heard my voice before - or heard a whole record of mine before. So it was a completely new experience. ~ James Iha
Re Learning quotes by James Iha
Your brain has a capacity for learning that is virtually limitless, which makes every human a potential genius. ~ Michael J. Gelb
Re Learning quotes by Michael J. Gelb
I'm learning Spanish - I got Rosetta Stone for Christmas. ~ Karlie Kloss
Re Learning quotes by Karlie Kloss
I'm learning how to see. I don't know what the reason is, but everything enters into me more deeply and no longer stops at the point where it used to come to an end. I have an inner self that I knew nothing about. Now everything goes into it. I don't know what happens there. ~ Rainer Maria Rilke
Re Learning quotes by Rainer Maria Rilke
There's no media training. In cooking school, there's not even manager training. You learn the fundamentals of cooking. Everything else is learning by doing. ~ Rene Redzepi
Re Learning quotes by Rene Redzepi
Since any effort always translates into more learning about a particular subject, we logically believe that we can determine our success in a linear fashion, but this doesn't happen because our self-image always filters our perception of reality. ~ Robin Sacredfire
Re Learning quotes by Robin Sacredfire
Whatever you do in life, if you want to be creative and intelligent, and develop your brain, you must do everything with the awareness that everything, in some way, connects to everything else. ~ Leonardo Da Vinci
Re Learning quotes by Leonardo Da Vinci
The essential thing is learning how not to be absent from one's own life. ~ Marty Rubin
Re Learning quotes by Marty Rubin
You'll learn. It takes time to kill the flesh, honey. It's kind of like those candles your father used to put on Mitchell's cake
the ones that relight when you think they're out. You've got to keep huffing and puffing and maybe even use the help of water before it's over, but eventually it's over, and that candle can't be lit even if you try
-Mrs. Flannery ~ Heather Randall
Re Learning quotes by Heather Randall
Thus, if a composer wants to produce music that is relevant to his contemporaries, his chief problem is not really musical, though it may seem to him to be so; it is a problem of attitude to contemporary society and culture in relation to the basic human problem of learning to be human. ~ John Blacking
Re Learning quotes by John Blacking
There is nothing new under the sun, but there are new suns. ~ Octavia E. Butler
Re Learning quotes by Octavia E. Butler
And what, O Queen, are those things that are dear to a man? Are they not bubbles? Is not ambition but an endless ladder by which no height is ever climbed till the last unreachable rung is mounted? For height leads on to height, and there is not resting-place among them, and rung doth grow upon rung, and there is no limit to the number. ~ H. Rider Haggard
Re Learning quotes by H. Rider Haggard
I don't argue with fools; I educate. ~ Shannon L. Alder
Re Learning quotes by Shannon L. Alder
If the statistics are right, the Jews constitute but one percent of the human race. It suggests a nebulous dim puff of star dust lost in the blaze of the Milky Way. Properly the Jew ought hardly to be heard of, but he is heard of, has always been heard of. He is as prominent on the planet as any other people, and his commercial importance is extravagantly out of proportion to the smallness of his bulk. His contributions to the world's list of great names in literature, science, art, music, finance, medicine, and abstruse learning are also away out of proportion to the weakness of his numbers. ~ Mark Twain
Re Learning quotes by Mark Twain
But Mathematics are music,' Bach replied. And the reverse is also true. Whether you believe the word 'music' came from 'Musa,' the Muses, or from 'muta,'...it makes no difference. If you think 'mathematics' came from 'mathanein,' which is learning, or from 'Matrix," the womb or mother of all creation, it matters not... ~ Katherine Neville
Re Learning quotes by Katherine Neville
Since then I've come to believe you don't always have to use things you love, and it's not always so practical to be so practical. Now that I've grown up, I realize that all that delicious dilettantism pays its way as much as any degree in medicine or engineering, by making me remember every day - whenever I pick up a book or watch the Science Channel or try to read a map of Asia for no particular reason - that life is amazing and there is no end to the wonder of it. ~ Barbara Sher
Re Learning quotes by Barbara Sher
If we can keep ourselves from interfering with the natural laws of life, mistakes can be our child's finest teachers. ~ Randy Alcorn
