If an author is going to put in a forbidden element in a storyline and actually have them doing things to protect their heroine then that's good. When these hero's end up sleeping with one woman after another all in the name of protecting their heroine's well then they come across as sleazy and not a character to admire or respect. Angst is fine for me if done the right way especially if I can feel the love they have for their women......but then it totally negates their love when you have explicit sex scenes with ow where they certainly do not appear to be in misery. ~ Fre06 Begum

The Punisher: If there are no consequences to your mistakes...there are no reason not to make them... ~ Fred Van Lente
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Fred Van Lente
The pain of it was crippling him. He couldn't breathe. Be a man! Be a Dardano. Alessandro felt the protective wall shoot up around his heart in one quick instant. Dardanos weren't weak and stupid like he had been. Dardanos didn't let their emotions blind them. Love was for fools. Love made men stupid. But oh, she would never make him stupid again. Oh, how Alessandro would make his darling wife pay. ~ E. Jamie
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by E. Jamie
For John le Carre, it was always who's betraying who: the hall-of-mirrors kind of thing. When you go back to the '30s, it's a case of good vs. evil, and no kidding. When I have a hero who believes France and Britain are on the right side, a reader is not going to question that. ~ Alan Furst
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Alan Furst
You don't encounter anyone who is not hero or villain of their own story. If it's man vs. self, you have to explore the ways each character is villainous and heroic. ~ Kit Williamson
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Kit Williamson
Nor does it matter from the standpoint of a comparative study of symbolic forms whether Christ or the Buddha ever actually lived and performed the miracles associated with their teachings. The religious literatures of the world abound in counterparts of those two great lives. And what one may learn from them all, finally, is that the savior, the hero, the redeemed one, is the one who has learned to penetrate the protective wall of those fears within, which exclude the rest of us, generally, in our daylight and even our dreamnight thoughts, from all experience of our own and the world's divine ground. The mythologized biographies of such saviors communicate the messages of their world-transcending wisdom in world-transcending symbols - which, ironically, are then generally translated back into such verbalized thoughts as built the interior walls in the first place. ~ Joseph Campbell
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Joseph Campbell
Rejection of the unknown is tantamount to "identification with the devil," the mythological counterpart and eternal adversary of the world-creating exploratory hero. Such rejection and identification is a consequence of Luciferian pride, which states: all that I know is all that is necessary to know. This pride is totalitarian assumption of omniscience – is adoption of "God's place" by "reason" – is something that inevitably generates a state of personal and social being indistinguishable from hell. This hell develops because creative exploration – impossible, without (humble) acknowledgment of the unknown – constitutes the process that constructs and maintains the protective adaptive structure that gives life much of its acceptable meaning ~ Jordan B. Peterson
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Jordan B. Peterson
In the story of life"Hope" is the Hero who protects the Lady Love "Dream (Desire from the bad guy "Fear". ~ Wordions
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Wordions
Look at these magnificent women, I thought, created in such misogynistic and hierarchical societies, yet they are the subversive centers around which the plot is shaped. Everything is supposed to revolve around the male hero. But it is the active presence of these women that changes events and diverts the man's life from its traditional course, that shocks him into changing his very mode of existence. In the classical Iranian narrative, active women dominate the scene; they make things happen. ~ Azar Nafisi
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Azar Nafisi
His fear vanished and was replaced with steely determination. He would not let the spirit hurt this girl. He would not let anyone hurt this girl. ~ Morgan Rhodes
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Morgan Rhodes
The proliferation of luminous fungi or iridescent crystals in deep caves where the torchlessly improvident hero needs to see is one of the most obvious intrusions of narrative causality into the physical universe. ~ Terry Pratchett
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Terry Pratchett
You sold a story last week," said Pettit, "about a gun fight in an Arizona mining town in which the hero drew his Colt's .45 and shot seven bandits as fast as they came in the door. Now, if a six-shooter could - "
"Oh, well," said I, "that's different. Arizona is a long way from New York. I could have a man stabbed with a lariat or chased by a pair of chaparreras if I wanted to, and it wouldn't be noticed until the usual error-sharp from around McAdams Junction isolates the erratum and writes in to the papers about it." (from "The Plutonian Fire") ~ O. Henry
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by O. Henry
Irena Sendler never thought of herself as a hero. She only did what she felt she must, and wished she could have done more. ~ Marcia K. Vaughan
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Marcia K. Vaughan
Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV ~ John Lennon
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by John Lennon
When you talk about heroines and heroes, at the top of the list has got to be the single moms of America. ~ Bernie Sanders
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Bernie Sanders
Betrayed and abandoned, cut adrift or superannuated, coerced or manipulated, speeded up, cheated, living in the shadows - this is a recipe for acquiescence. Yet conditions of life and labor as bad as or even far worse than these once were instigators to social upheaval. Alongside the massing of enemies on the outside - employers, insulated and self-protective union leaders, government policy makers, the globalized sweatshop, and the globalized megabank - something in the tissue of working-class life had proved profoundly disempowering and also accounted for the silence.

Work itself had lost its cultural gravitas. What in part qualified the American Revolution as a legitimate overturning of an ancien régime was its political emancipation of labor. Until that time, work was considered a disqualifying disability for participating in public life. It entailed a degree of deference to patrons and a narrow-minded preoccupation with day-to-day affairs that undermined the possibility of disinterested public service. By opening up the possibility of democracy, the Revolution removed, in theory, that crippling impairment and erased an immemorial chasm between those who worked and those who didn't need to. And by inference this bestowed honor on laboring mankind, a recognition that was to infuse American political culture for generations.

But in our new era, the nature of work, the abuse of work, exploitation at work, and all the prophecies and jeremiads, the condem ~ Steve Fraser
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Steve Fraser
In other hand of the enemy will arise the fortune hero. ~ Lena Hussain
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Lena Hussain
Duke by Day, Rogue by Night is a rollicking romp of a pirate romance in the classic style. From ship deck to London ballroom, Katherine Bone's story is packed with intrigue, and the disguise of her rough and dangerous hero as a town popinjay positively delights." Katharine Ashe, author of HOW TO A LADY WEDS A ROGUE ~ Katherine Bone
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Katherine Bone
True heroes know that the most heroic thing about being a hero is not letting anyone else know that you are one. ~ Craig D. Lounsbrough
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Craig D. Lounsbrough
I think my biggest musical hero growing up was probably Ian MacKaye. He set a great example for all of us local musicians. Still, to this day, I see him as the best example of a right-on musician. ~ Dave Grohl
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Dave Grohl
My first hero was Thomas Edison, whose adult life had consisted entirely of free time. ~ Jonathan Franzen
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Jonathan Franzen
Nelson Mandela is my hero outside of football. I was fortunate enough to meet him a couple of times. He was really clued up on his football and he knew me, so that was just unbelievable. It really stuck with me. ~ Ryan Giggs
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Ryan Giggs
Books are those faithful mirrors that reflect to our mind the minds of sages and heroes. ~ Edward Gibbon
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Edward Gibbon
Wolves and women have much in common. Both share a wild spirit. Women and wolves are instinctual creatures, able to sense the unseen. They are loyal, protective of their packs and their pups. They are wild and beautiful. Both have been hunted and captured. Even in captivity, one can see in the eyes of a woman, or a wolf, the longing to run free, and the determination that should the opportunity arise, whoosh, they will be gone. ~ Clarissa Pinkola Estes
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Clarissa Pinkola Estes
The Peloponnesian War turns out to be no dry chronicle of abstract cause and effect. No, it is above all an intense, riveting, and timeless story of strong and weak men, of heroes and scoundrels and innocents too, all caught in the fateful circumstances of rebellion, plague, and war that always strip away the veneer of culture and show us for what we really are. ~ Thucydides
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Thucydides
The argument could be made that the word 'hero' is overused. I do not think, however, that this is the case when referring to teachers. ~ Steve Maraboli
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Steve Maraboli
It is, in fact, that I've never admired anyone as much as I admire you. I have such a strong affinity for you. And only God knows why, for you're the most irritatingly, self-protective young lady I've ever met. ~ Dawn Crandall
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Dawn Crandall
It's all interrelated, these destructive things I do. I latch on to people, like I'm collecting them. I'm always looking for a hero, you know? ~ Jenna Brooks
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Jenna Brooks
To be in good moral condition requires at least as much training as to be in good physical condition. ~ Jawaharlal Nehru
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Jawaharlal Nehru
Nobody ever started a fight because they thought they were wrong. Think about it. We're all so sure of ourselves that we can't even have an honest conversation. Instead, we babble bass-ackwards agendas and cling to ill-conceived notions. Our heads are so far up our own arses that we assume we are the hero of the story. Even when we are up to our necks in it, we never bother asking what the awful smell is. The thing is... everyone can't be right. That's not a thing. But nobody wants to back down. So instead, you get a line in the sand and people taking sides. ~ Brian Buccellato
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Brian Buccellato
In a bygone era, penalty-takers would put their laces through the ball and threaten to put a permanent bulge in the netting. For reasons that remain a mystery, the modern preference is for side-footed placement and so the dilemma of goalkeepers has changed from whether to take a guess at dive right or left to if they should dive at all. Or at least that ought to have been their reappraisal. Almunia was feted as the hero in Rome but had he and Doni stayed in the centre of their goal then the number of saves they made in the shoot-out would have been doubled. ~ Pete Gill
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Pete Gill
If we must have heroes and wars whereinto make them, there is no war so brilliant as a war with the wrong, no hero so fit to be sung, as he who has gained the bloodless VICTORY of truth and mercy. ~ Isambard Kingdom Brunel
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Isambard Kingdom Brunel
I too can play the madman, the fool, the hero; in short, any or everything to rescue her I love. ~ James Fenimore Cooper
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by James Fenimore Cooper
Until our states become members of a large and effectively protective group they will continue to act like individuals and families in the hunting stage. ~ Will Durant
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Will Durant
She had my back, supported me. This is the role of the mother, and in that visit I really saw clearly, and for the first time, why a mother is really important. Not just because she feeds and also loves and cuddles and even mollycoddles a child, but because in an interesting and maybe an eerie and unworldly way, she stands in the gap. She stands between the unknown and the known. In Stockholm, my mother shed her protective love down around me and without knowing why people sensed that I had value. I ~ Maya Angelou
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Maya Angelou
And here before me stands a marvelously groomed little man who is pinning a hero's medal on me because some of his forebears were Alfred the Great and Charles the First, and even King Arthur, for anything I knew to the contrary. But I shouldn't be surprised if inside he feels as puzzled about the fate that brings him here as I. we are public icons, we two: he an icon of kingship, and I an icon of heroism, unreal yet very necessary; we have obligations above what is merely personal, and to let personal feelings obscure the obligations would be failing in one's duty.

This was clearer still afterward, at lunch at the Savoy....; they all seemed to accept me as a genuine hero, and I did my best to behave decently, neither believing in it too obviously, nor yet protesting that I was just a simple chap who had done his duty when he saw it--a pose that has always disgusted me. Ever since, I have tried to think charitably of people in prominent positions of one kind or another. We cast them in roles, and it is only right to consider them as players, without trying to discredit them with knowledge of their off-stage life--unless they drag it into the middle of the stage themselves. ~ Robertson Davies
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Robertson Davies
Far to our left I could see a commercial airliner on final approach to Soekarno-Hatta. Far to our right I could see the outline of tall city buildings. The imagery was hard to ignore. In the midst was an impoverished world filled with dangerous radicals. Some believed it was God's will to crash airplanes into buildings. Some recruited children to self-detonate on buses and in coffee shops. It must be incredibly difficult to hold fast to hope when you live in such a world. It's also hard to keep faith with humanity when religious ideology is used as an impetus for war. But I also believe that for every war there is a hero ... and for me, Jakarta will always be Indira's city. ~ Tucker Elliot
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Tucker Elliot
If you think you've never lived up to a situation, you have your own story or you will be the hero. ~ Chris TDL
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Chris TDL
At times like this it's traditional that a hero comes forth," said the President of the Guild of Assassins. "A dragon slayer. Where is he, that's what I want to know? Why aren't our schools turning out young people with the skills society needs? ~ Terry Pratchett
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Terry Pratchett
If your Olympic Hero were to use the Worm in the 1996 Olympic Games, it would be so embarassing to all the other atheletes - and our country, mind you- that the USA would have finished behind Guam. ~ Kurt Angle
Protective Hero Vs Sleezeball quotes by Kurt Angle
Don Quixote was a song for a 1969 Michael Douglas movie called Hail Hero! I wrote the title song for the film and they also used the Don Quixote one I had submitted. ~ Gordon Lightfoot
