In these our cowardly times, we deny the grandeur of the Universal, and assert and glorify our local Bigotries, and so we cannot agree on much. In these our degenerate times, men bent on nothing but vainglory and personal gain- hollow, bombastic men for whom nothing is off-limits if it advances their petty cause- will claim to be great leaders and benefactors, acting in the common good, and calling all who oppose them liars, envious, little people, stupid people, stiff, and, in a precise reversal of the truth, dishonest and corrupt. ~ Salman Rushdie
Politics Of The United States quotes by Salman Rushdie
I never favored any political party. Being a conservative or a liberal, a Republican or a Democrat, these are just labels that people use to categorize each other so that they can quickly decide whether or not they want to listen to what they have to say. Politicians are not interested in empathizing with each other. They simply try to do as little as possible in the way of serving the public while building their reputation among their peers, amassing power and wealth that is unimaginable to the common American citizen that they supposedly represent. ~ Aaron B. Powell
Politics Of The United States quotes by Aaron B. Powell
The Republican Party under Genghis Bush did the devil's work. Bar the sainted Ron Paul, not a dog of a Republican lifted his leg in protest of the unjust war on Iraq. ~ Ilana Mercer
Politics Of The United States quotes by Ilana Mercer
What worries me is that I am not sure any of the Republicans, or any Democrat, is ready to 'go to the mats.' And, ergo, I am concerned that our current leaders are simply incapable of creating a winning war strategy. ~ Rick Elkin
Politics Of The United States quotes by Rick Elkin
A politician is a hog grateful to whoever is rattling the stick inside the swill bucket. It is time to take the swill bucket away. p 270 ~ Mike Lofgren
Politics Of The United States quotes by Mike Lofgren
President Trump continues to attack Hillary Clinton for one reason and one reason only. He knows she is the legitimate President and he wants to convince himself that he is more deserving of the office which he stole. ~ Ed Krassenstein
Politics Of The United States quotes by Ed Krassenstein
But we forget that government was also created to act and make decisions. ~ Francis Fukuyama
Politics Of The United States quotes by Francis Fukuyama
And how about doing the job we hired you gentlemen and ladies for? Start doing it by reading the legislation you pass. If you don't know what it says, don't vote for it. ~ Kenneth Eade
Politics Of The United States quotes by Kenneth Eade
Periclean Greeks employed the term idiotis, without any connotation of stupidity or subnormality, to mean simply 'a person indifferent to public affairs.' Obviously, there is something wanting in the apolitical personality. But we have also come to suspect the idiocy of politicization - of the professional pol and power broker. The two idiocies make a perfect match, with the apathy of the first permitting the depredations of the second. ~ Christopher Hitchens
Politics Of The United States quotes by Christopher Hitchens
Launching a nice little war to divert national attention was a gambit no less appealing to nineteenth-century politicians than it is to their present-day counterparts. ~ Jon Krakauer
Politics Of The United States quotes by Jon Krakauer
I, too, like yourself was a good party man: my party was that of the Church; I was ultramontane. Your party system is one of your thefts from our Church; your National Convention is our Ecunemic Council; you abdicate reason, as we do, before its decisions; and you yourself Mr. Ratcliffe, you are a Cardinal. ~ Henry Adams
Politics Of The United States quotes by Henry Adams
The purpose in life is not just to work a
good-paying job but actually have
meaning and purpose to what you're doing
with your life
and deep inside the heart of every
American is the love honor courage and ideals that form the foundation of this country.
Love is not just a feeling
its a powerful force that drives us to act
there is no force more powerful than love
we must stand up and we must fight for
the soul of our culture We Have No Time to Waste. ~ Tulsi Gabbard
Politics Of The United States quotes by Tulsi Gabbard
When, in the fifteenth century, some audacious mariners who had sailed from Europe discovered America, nothing seemed to justify such a venture in the eyes of their contemporaries. Today, however, we can see it has given birth to the twentieth-century United States. Don't you think the existence of the United States constitutes a valid reason for Columbus's wild scheme... ~ Pierre Boulle
Politics Of The United States quotes by Pierre Boulle
In other words, our constitution was designed by people who were idealistic but not ideological. There's a big difference. You can have a philosophy that tends to be liberal or conservative but still be open to evidence, experience, and argument. That enables people with honest differences to find practical, principled compromise. On the other hand, fervent insistence on an ideology makes evidence, experience, and arguments irrelevant: If you possess the absolute truth, those who disagree are by definition wrong, and evidence of success or failure is irrelevant. There is nothing to learn from the experience of other countries. Respectful arguments are a waste of time. Compromise is weakness. And if your policies fail, you don't abandon them; instead, you double down, asserting that they would have worked if only they had been carried to their logical extreme. ~ Bill Clinton
Politics Of The United States quotes by Bill Clinton
All my life I've lived a beautiful lie. The governor's son with the bright future set for him. The middle child. The one who no one knew how bad he was suffering until it made the nightly news. ~ Magan Vernon
Politics Of The United States quotes by Magan Vernon
The cultural forces that help politically sustain both the militaristic and the corporate function of the Deep State, however, are growing more irrational and antiscience. A military tradition that glories in force and appeals to self-sacrifice is the polar opposite of the Enlightenment heritate of rationality, the search for peace, and a belief in the common destiny of mankind. The warrior-leader, like the witch doctor, ultimately appeals to irrational emotionalism; and the cultural psychology that produces the bravest and most loyal warriors is a mind-set that is usually hostile to the sort of free inquiry of which scientific progress depends. This dynamic is observable in Afghanistan: no outside power has been able to conquer and pacify that society for millennia because of the tenacity of its warrior spirit; yet the country has one of the highest illiteracy rates on earth and is barely out of the Bronze Age in social development. p 260 ~ Mike Lofgren
Politics Of The United States quotes by Mike Lofgren
What I could not support was "a dumb war, a rash war, a war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics". ~ Barack Obama
Politics Of The United States quotes by Barack Obama
The masses demand a fighting President, and that means you've got to offend somebody, because the way I see it, a strong offense is the best attack.
So what can you offend?
That's an easy one. Offend the other candidates, because they'll be too busy talking to hear you, and besides, they might not vote for you anyway. ~ Gracie Allen
Politics Of The United States quotes by Gracie Allen
Washington is the only lunatic asylum in the world run by its own inmates. ~ W. Lee O'Daniel
Politics Of The United States quotes by W. Lee O'Daniel
Indeed, it's not a stretch to say that most voters no longer choose their representatives; instead, representatives choose their voters. ~ Barack Obama
Politics Of The United States quotes by Barack Obama
That natural disasters are required to provide Americans with a glimpse of reality in their own country is an indication of the deep rot infecting the official political culture. ~ Tariq Ali
Politics Of The United States quotes by Tariq Ali
Take George W. Bush: He was an unpopular two-term president. Three times, his approval rating dropped to 25 percent. [To be fair, he also had the highest approval rating of all time, very briefly. But that was immediately after 9/11  -  and in the wake of domestic terrorism, a well-dressed mannequin's approval rating might have hovered around 50.] During his last two years in office, he was hammered nonstop, periodically classified as the worst U.S. president since Ulysses Grant or James Buchanan. Yet was Bush a villain? No. He was not. He was never, ever calculating. He didn't know the most (which is not to say he was dumb), and he didn't care the least (which is not to say he was a paragon of empathy). He was just the guy who ended up with the job. The villain of his administration ended up being Vice President Dick Cheney, a frosty puppet master who radically expanded the powers of the presidency even though he was not the president. ~ Chuck Klosterman
Politics Of The United States quotes by Chuck Klosterman
There is no glory in the sacrificing of oneself in the name of imperialism by order of elitist politicians. But this is what our young service members are led to believe. ~ Aaron B. Powell
Politics Of The United States quotes by Aaron B. Powell
As for the politicians, like everyone else in America, they were motivated by money, not ideals. ~ Charles Dickens
Politics Of The United States quotes by Charles Dickens
It's not about being liberal or conservative, it's about being human.
It's not about being rich or poor, it's about being alive and happy.
It's not about being right, it's about being considerate and compassionate. ~ Karen L. Syed
Politics Of The United States quotes by Karen L. Syed
Shamelessness is not the same as honesty. ~ James Poniewozik
Politics Of The United States quotes by James Poniewozik
We are now told, indeed, by the learned doctors of the nullification school, that color operates as a forfeiture of the rights of human nature; that a dark skin turns a man into a chattel; that crispy hair transforms a human being into a four-footed beast. The master-priest informs you, that slavery is consecrated and sanctified by the Holy Scriptures and of the old and new Testament ... My countrymen! These are the tenants of the modern nullification school. Can you wonder that they shrink from the light of free discussion? That they skulk from the grasp of freedom and truth? ~ John Quincy Adams
Politics Of The United States quotes by John Quincy Adams
Try to look at causes and solve problems. Do not concentrate on military solutions. Do not seek military solutions. Terrorism is a political problem. Seek political solutions. Diplomacy works. ~ Eqbal Ahmed
Politics Of The United States quotes by Eqbal Ahmed
Americans, being a moral people, want their foreign policy to reflect the values we espouse as a nation. But Americans, being a practical people, also want their foreign policy to be effective. ~ George Shultz
Politics Of The United States quotes by George Shultz
We believe in the American Dream, not in the socialist nightmare. ~ Donald J. Trump
Politics Of The United States quotes by Donald J. Trump
Even now, years later, it's hard to tell why the government stood by and let the city of New Orleans be destroyed, dispatching troops rather than help. ~ Ted Rall
Politics Of The United States quotes by Ted Rall
There are few genuine conservatives within the U.S. political system, and it is a sign of the intellectual corruption of the age that the honorable term 'conservatism' can be appropriated to disguise the advocacy of a powerful, lawless, aggressive and violent state, a welfare state for the rich dedicated to a lunatic form of Keynesian economic intervention that enhances state and private power while mortgaging the country's future. ~ Noam Chomsky
Politics Of The United States quotes by Noam Chomsky
The Republican Party is slightly ahead of Democrats when it come to devaluing any traditional understanding of foreign and national security policy. This is not surprising, because in all other matter of public policy, the GOP has strictly subordinated practical governance and problem solving to the emotional thematics of an endless political campaign. Whether the topic is Iran, Russia, or the proper level of defense spending at a time of high deficits, the GOP's stance has little to do with the merits of the situation; it is a projection of domestic political sloganeering. Taking a position on anything, whcther it be Ukraine or the efficacy of drones, boils down to a talking-point projection of focus groups-tested emotional themes: strength versus weakness, standing tall versus cutting and running, acting versus thinking." pp. 157-158 ~ Mike Lofgren
Politics Of The United States quotes by Mike Lofgren
The rise of Donald Trump is what happens when you build Potemkin villages in Weimar republics. ~ Dean Cavanagh
Politics Of The United States quotes by Dean Cavanagh
It is only by ignoring fact, science, and reason that one can support current Republican positions. ~ Avi Silverman
Politics Of The United States quotes by Avi Silverman
You can't keep snakes in your backyard and expect them only to bite your neighbors. You know, eventually those snakes are going to turn on whoever has them in the backyard. ~ Hillary Rodham Clinton
Politics Of The United States quotes by Hillary Rodham Clinton
Political corruption, social greed, and Americanized quasi-socialism can ruin even the most wonderful places. California proved that. ~ Tiffany Madison
Politics Of The United States quotes by Tiffany Madison
Every politician brings in a wide range of context, promises and characters to bring his mission of you to listen to his words and vote for him and later he won't listen to you at any range. ~ Auliq Ice
Politics Of The United States quotes by Auliq Ice
all right we are two nations ~ John Dos Passos
Politics Of The United States quotes by John Dos Passos
Complacent eligible voters who abstained from voting because "I don't like either candidate" - provided a deadly assist. You are the collective of assassins responsible for slaughtering the America of hope and progress.

Afro Bo Peep ~ Erin Passons
Politics Of The United States quotes by Erin Passons
There is a cold war on the go. America and Russia are competing for the hearts and minds of Indians, Iraquies, Nigerians; scholarships to universities are among the inducements they offer. ~ J.M. Coetzee
Politics Of The United States quotes by J.M. Coetzee
The invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq were both justified by an appeal to the emancipation of women, and the discourse of feminism was specifically invoked. ~ Nina Power
Politics Of The United States quotes by Nina Power
The Second Amendment is timeless for our Founders grasped that self-defense is three-fold: every free individual must protect themselves against the evil will of the man, the mob and the state. ~ Tiffany Madison
Politics Of The United States quotes by Tiffany Madison
Plato argued that good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will always find a way around law. By pretending that procedure will get rid of corruption, we have succeeded only in humiliating honest people and provided a cover of darkness and complexity for the bad people. There is a scandal here, but it's not the result of venal bureaucrats.
(1994) p. 99 ~ Philip K. Howard
Politics Of The United States quotes by Philip K. Howard
Not only is the actual word "hysteria" gendered - it once referred to an exclusively female disease, a mental illness thought to be caused by a malfunctioning uterus - there is a very long history of critics using accusations or innuendo about women's mental health or emotional stability in order to shut down their political voices. ~ Sady Doyle
Politics Of The United States quotes by Sady Doyle
It is a national tragedy of incalculable proportions....What is wrong with the United States that it can provide the environment for such an act? There is sickness in the nation when political differences cannot be accepted and settled in the democratic way.
(from The St. Louis Post-Dispatch) ~ United Press International
Politics Of The United States quotes by United Press International
In my opinion, what the country needs, first and foremost, is a good, sound, business-like conduct of its affairs. What we need is - a business administration ! ~ Sinclair Lewis
Politics Of The United States quotes by Sinclair Lewis
Republican ideology in a nutshell: Some of you will die but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. ~ Oliver Markus Malloy
Politics Of The United States quotes by Oliver Markus Malloy
Don't write in to ask whether I would prefer Gingrich to Clinton. Ask, rather, whether Clinton prefers Gingrich to you. Go triangulate yourself. ~ Christopher Hitchens
Politics Of The United States quotes by Christopher Hitchens
Americans need to continue to develop broad-based movements that reject the established political parties and rethink the social formations necessary to bring about a radical democracy. We see this in the Black Lives Matter movement as well as in a range of other movements that are resisting corporate money in politics, the widespread destruction of the environment, nuclear war and the mass incarceration state. ~ Henry A. Giroux
Politics Of The United States quotes by Henry A. Giroux
They declare that it is unpatriotic and disruptive to question the workings of authority
but patriotic to institute harsh and regressive policies that benefit the wealthy, undermine social programs that serve the needs of the great majority, and subordinate a frightened population to increased state control. ~ Noam Chomsky
Politics Of The United States quotes by Noam Chomsky
Some years back Richard Nixon warned the American people
that Russia was bad because she had not kept any treaty or
agreement signed with her. You can trust the Communists, the
saying went, to be Communists.
Indian people laugh themselves sick when they hear these
statements. America has yet to keep one Indian treaty or agreement
despite the fact that the United States government signed
over four hundred such treaties and agreements with Indian
tribes. It would take Russia another century to make and break
as many treaties as the United States has already violated. ~ Vine Deloria Jr.
Politics Of The United States quotes by Vine Deloria Jr.
Americans expect the president to right the wrongs that plague us - and we blame him when he fails. Because we invest impossible expectations in the presidency, the presidency has become an impossible job. And once the honeymoon period inevitably fades, the modern president becomes a lightning rod for discontent, often catching blame for phenomena beyond the control of any one person, however powerful ~ Gene Healy
Politics Of The United States quotes by Gene Healy
Speaker Ryan, who voted for the $1.1 trillion 2016 Omnibus Spending Bill, demanding Trump show him his conservative credentials is as though a guy who never built a thing were to mock a man who has built lots of things. ~ Ilana Mercer
Politics Of The United States quotes by Ilana Mercer
And I get angry. Because we've tried so hard. Ninety-six percent of Black women tried so hard in voting against him. And not only did this country not elect Clinton, it elected a person who publicly supported sexual assault, a man one accused of rape by his daughter Ivanka's mother. I am angry with the Democratic Party for not knowing that there could have been and should have been a better candidate and angry that a better campaign -- a campaign that honored the journey, that included community in real and transformative ways -- was not launched. I am angry I didn't realize -- or accept on a cellular level -- how wedded to racism and misogyny average Americans are. I am angry at my own naiveté. Our own naiveté. There was a real and substantive difference between these two candidates and we didn't take that seriously enough. ~ Patrisse Khan-Cullors
Politics Of The United States quotes by Patrisse Khan-Cullors
Both parties promote "changing Washington," but in reality they like Washington just the way it is: little gets done that they don't like, and none of our officials are truly held accountable. ~ Andrew P. Napolitano
Politics Of The United States quotes by Andrew P. Napolitano
Following religious principles because you fear the consequences isn't faith…. It's superstition. ~ T. Rafael Cimino
Politics Of The United States quotes by T. Rafael Cimino
In the blood-heat of pursuing the enemy, many people are forgetting what we are fighting for. We are fighting for our hard-won liberty and freedom; for our Constitution and the due processes of our laws; and for the right to differ in ideas, religion and politics. I am convinced that in your zeal to fight against our enemies, you, too, have forgotten what you are fighting for. ~ Julia Child
Politics Of The United States quotes by Julia Child
If you do not want to be lied to, then you need to stop following politics. ~ Steven Magee
Politics Of The United States quotes by Steven Magee
The older America, until the 1890s and in some respects until 1914, was wrapped in the security of continental isolation, village society, the Protestant denominations, and a flourishing industrial capitalism. But reluctantly, year by year, over several decades, it has been drawn into the twentieth century and forced to cope with its unpleasant realities: first the incursions of cosmopolitanism and skepticism, then the disappearance of American isolation and easy military security, the collapse of traditional capitalism and its supplementation by a centralized welfare state, finally the unrelenting costs and stringencies of the Second World War, the Korean War, and the cold war. As a consequence, the heartland of America, filled with people who are often fundamentalist in religion, nativist in prejudice, isolationist in foreign policy, and conservative in economics, has constantly rumbled with an underground revolt against all these tormenting manifestations of our modern predicament. ~ Richard Hofstadter
Politics Of The United States quotes by Richard Hofstadter
We are an impatient culture and an impatient electorate. ~ Dick Couch
Politics Of The United States quotes by Dick Couch
The owners and top managers of most news media organizations tend to be conservative and Republican. This is hardly surprising. The shareholders and executives of multi-billion-dollar corporations are not very interested in undermining the free enterprise system, for example, income from offended advertisers. These owners and managers ultimately decide which reporters, newscasters, and editors to hire or fire, promote or discourage. Journalists who want to get a head, therefore, may have to come to terms with the policies of the people who own and run media businesses. ~ Edward S. Greenberg
Politics Of The United States quotes by Edward S. Greenberg
And this, of course, is the central problem with conspiracy theorists  -  once you inflexibly accept that something is a conspiracy, any contrary evidence has the paradoxical effect of making your case stronger. Every contradiction deepens the conspiracy. ~ Chuck Klosterman
Politics Of The United States quotes by Chuck Klosterman
You can tell there's an election coming soon. People are already using the word "fundamentally" in excess. ~ Benjamin Kane Ethridge
Politics Of The United States quotes by Benjamin Kane Ethridge
To restrict or legalize abortion, to allow or forbid gay marriage, a legislator would need to write and pass a law, get it signed by the president or a governor, and perhaps override a veto. A Supreme Court justice need only persuade four other people. If he or she is not internally constrained by the authority of a text, he or she is not constrained. ~ Michael J. Gerson
Politics Of The United States quotes by Michael J. Gerson
Our democracy should aspire to be more democratic. ~ DaShanne Stokes
Politics Of The United States quotes by DaShanne Stokes
Propaganda campaigns in general have been closely attuned to elite interests. The Red scare of 1919-20 have served well to abort the union-organizing drive that followed World War I in the sell and other industries. The Truman-McCarthy Red scare helped inaugurate the Cold War and the permanent war economy, and it also served to weaken the progressive coalition of the New Deal years. The chronic focus on the plight of Soviet dissidents, on enemy killings in Cambodia, and on the Bulgarian Connection helped weaken the Vietnam syndrome, justify a huge arms buildup and a more aggressive foreign policy, and divert attention from upward redistribution of income that was the heart of Reagan's domestic economic program. The recent propaganda-disinformation attacks on Nicaragua have been needed to avert eyes from the savagery of the war in El Salvador and to justify the escalating U.S. investment in counterrevolution in Central America. ~ Noam Chomsky
Politics Of The United States quotes by Noam Chomsky
It is important to bear in mind that political campaigns are designed by the same people who sell toothpaste and cars. ~ Noam Chomsky
Politics Of The United States quotes by Noam Chomsky
I used to call myself a single-issue voter on the essential question of defending civilization against its terrorist enemies and their totalitarian protectors, and on that 'issue' I hope I can continue to expose and oppose any ambiguity. ~ Christopher Hitchens
Politics Of The United States quotes by Christopher Hitchens
If someone publishes an essay, or tells a joke, or performs a play that forwards a problematic idea the U.S. government generally wouldn't try to stop that person from doing so. Even if they could. If the expression doesn't involve national security the government generally doesn't give a shit. But, if enough vocal consumers are personally offended, they can silence that artist just as effectively. They can petition advertisers and marginalize the artist's reception and economically remove that individual from whatever platform he or she happens to utilize simply because there are no expression based platforms that don't have an economic underpinning. It's one of those situations where the practical manifestation is the opposite of the technical intention. As Americans we tend to look down on European countries that impose legal limitations on speech. Yet as long as speakers in those countries stay within the specified boundaries discourse is allowed relatively unfettered, even when it's unpopular. In the U.S., there are absolutely no speech boundaries imposed by the government. So the citizenry creates its own limitations based on the arbitrary values of whichever activist group is most successful at inflicting its worldview upon an economically fragile public sphere. As a consequence, the United States is a safe space for those who want to criticize the government, but a dangerous place for those who want to advance unpopular thoughts about any other subject that could be d ~ Chuck Klosterman
Politics Of The United States quotes by Chuck Klosterman
It seems to be Latin American destiny to always have the United States say 'amen. ~ Warren Eyster
Politics Of The United States quotes by Warren Eyster
Mass culture is Peter Pan culture. It tells us that if we close our eyes, if we visualize what we want, if we have faith in ourselves, if we tell God that we believe in miracles, if we tap into our inner strength, if we grasp that we are truly exceptional, if we focus on happiness, our lives will be harmonious and complete. This cultural retreat into illusion, whether peddled by positive psychologists, Hollywood, or Christian preachers, is a form of magical thinking. It turns worthless mortgages and debt into wealth. It turns the destruction of our manufacturing base into an opportunity for growth. It turns alienation and anxiety into a cheerful conformity. It turns a nation that wages illegal wars and administers off-shore penal colonies where it openly practices torture into the greatest democracy on earth. ~ Chris Hedges
Politics Of The United States quotes by Chris Hedges
...More to the point, do their representatives and senators in Washington deliberately prioritize the stated requirement of the Pentagon and CIA above the most basic need of their constituents? Yes, if those legislators have developed the unfortunate tendency to go into a trance every time someone utter the magic phrase "national security." In truth, it happen often enough, and many times of the course of my career I saw Congress respond to that occult incantation like iron filing drawn to a magnet. p 64 ~ Mike Lofgren
Politics Of The United States quotes by Mike Lofgren
We live now in a world where any insult is treated like being shot at by a .38 at four feet. ~ Kris Saknussemm
Politics Of The United States quotes by Kris Saknussemm
A large segment of the public willingly resigns itself to political passivity in a world in which it cannot expect to make well-founded judgments. ~ Richard Hofstadter
Politics Of The United States quotes by Richard Hofstadter
The problem with the Tea Party is they're all ignorant hillbillies who drink moonshine and ride around on mules. And they believe in stereotypes too. ~ Jon Stewart
Politics Of The United States quotes by Jon Stewart
ON THE MODUS OPERANDI OF OUR CURRENT PRESIDENT, DONALD J. TRUMP

"According to a new ABC/Washington Post poll, President Trump's disapproval rating has hit a new high."
The President's response to this news was ""I don't do it for the polls. Honestly - people won't necessarily agree with this - I do nothing for the polls," the president told reporters on Wednesday. "I do it to do what's right. I'm here for an extended period of time. I'm here for a period that's a very important period of time. And we are straightening out this country." - Both Quotes Taken From Aol News - August 31, 2018

In The United States, as in other Republics, the two main categories of Presidential motivation for their assigned tasks are #1: Self Interest in seeking to attain and to hold on to political power for their own sakes, regarding the welfare of This Republic to be of secondary importance. #2: Seeking to attain and to hold on to the power of that same office for the selfless sake of this Republic's welfare, irregardless of their personal interest, and in the best of cases going against their personal interests to do what is best for this Republic even if it means making profound and extreme personal sacrifices. Abraham Lincoln understood this last mentioned motivation and gave his life for it.

The primary information any political scientist needs to ascertain regarding the diagnosis of a particular President's modus operandi is to first take an insig ~ John Lars Zwerenz
Politics Of The United States quotes by John Lars Zwerenz
To rise from the national level to the level of mankind, I call that progress. And that's what's so admirable. For a man to progress, once he has reached the White House-I wouldn't have thought it possible. ~ Pierre Boulle
Politics Of The United States quotes by Pierre Boulle
Another grave fault in our election system is that the campaigns are unduly strung out. [Election Administration in the United States, 1934, page 72] ~ Joseph P. Harris
Politics Of The United States quotes by Joseph P. Harris
The mass hallucination of the twentieth century is this: that all these national governments, which each year kill or threaten way more humans than they protect, and take a big chunk of your income to do so, are for some reason a great idea, an inevitable force of fucking nature. ~ Tyler Mcmahon
Politics Of The United States quotes by Tyler Mcmahon
Voting for the Green Party is how you say 'Up Yours!' to the Republicans and Democrats. ~ Steven Magee
Politics Of The United States quotes by Steven Magee
The New Deal began on March 25th, 1911. The day that the Triangle factory burned. ~ Frances Perkins
Politics Of The United States quotes by Frances Perkins
It's easy to look back on those strange days at the end of September 2003 and identify the warnings signs about Putin and Russia that American policy makers missed. But it would be unfair to them, and unfair to history, to do so without recognizing that the way things turned out was not inevitable. There really was the spore of a bright, new future in 2003, and it is certainly true that Russia itself had the resources and the capability to go in another direction. That things turned out as they did is a tragedy, a sprawling but explicable tragedy. And it is not Russia's alone. ~ Rachel Maddow
Politics Of The United States quotes by Rachel Maddow
We are all born to love people and use things. Unfortunately, we grow to love things and use people ... ~ T. Rafael Cimino
Politics Of The United States quotes by T. Rafael Cimino
On almost all issues, citizens could not identify the stands of the candidates
as intended. ~ Noam Chomsky
Politics Of The United States quotes by Noam Chomsky
Given time, Washington DC. has a way of making a Politician out of an Honest Man. ~ Ron Rinna
Politics Of The United States quotes by Ron Rinna
Presidents lie all the time. Really great presidents lie. Abraham Lincoln managed to end slavery in America partially by deception. (In an 1858 debate, he flatly insisted that he had no intention of abolishing slavery in states where it was already legal  -  he had to say this in order to slow the tide of secession.) Franklin Roosevelt lied about the U.S. position of neutrality until we entered World War II after the attack on Pearl Harbor. (Though the public and Congress believed his public pledge of impartiality, he was already working in secret with Winston Churchill and selling arms to France.) Ronald Reagan lied about Iran-Contra so much that it now seems like he was honestly confused. Politically, the practice of lying is essential. By the time the Lewinsky story broke, Clinton had already lied about many, many things. (He'd openly lied about his level of commitment to gay rights during the '92 campaign.) The presidency is not a job for an honest man. It's way too complex. If honesty drove the electoral process, Jimmy Carter would have served two terms and the 2008 presidential race would have been a dead heat between Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich. ~ Chuck Klosterman
Politics Of The United States quotes by Chuck Klosterman
Celebration of the new over the old easily translates into a celebration of young over the old, of young people over old people. The cult of youth, the celebration of youth for youth's sake s more pervasive in the United States than any other culture I have visited . . . When the culture values youth over maturity, the authority of parents is undermined. ~ Leonard Sax
Politics Of The United States quotes by Leonard Sax
In Coffeeville, Miss., at 6 p.m., there was a golden light and a child swinging in it, swinging from a big tree, over a big lawn, back and forth in front of a big airy house. To be a white middle-class child in a small southern town must be on certain levels the most golden way for a child to live in the United States. ~ Joan Didion
Politics Of The United States quotes by Joan Didion
Advertising prods people into wanting more and better things. Of course advertising makes people dissatisfied with what they have - makes them raise their sights. Mighty good thing it does. Nothing could be worse for the United States than 200,000,000 satisfied Americans. ~ Bernice Fitz-Gibbon
Politics Of The United States quotes by Bernice Fitz-Gibbon
Resolved, That the General Assembly of Virginia, doth unequivocally express a firm resolution to maintain and defend the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of this State, against every aggression either foreign or domestic, and that they will support the Government of the United States in all measures warranted by the former. ~ James Madison
Politics Of The United States quotes by James Madison
Who's the president of the United States?"
"Who cares? All politicians are crooks ~ Lisa Scottoline
Politics Of The United States quotes by Lisa Scottoline
Cannabis sativa and its derivatives are strictly prohibited in Turkey, and the natural correlative of this proscription is that alcohol, far from being frowned upon as it is in other Moslem lands, is freely drunk; being a government monopoly it can be bought at any cigarette counter. This fact is no mere detail; it is of primary social importance, since the psychological effects of the two substances are diametrically opposed to each other. Alcohol blurs the personality by loosening inhibitions. The drinker feels, temporarily at least, a sense of participation. Kif abolishes no inhibitions; on the contrary it reinforces them, pushes the individual further back into the recesses of his own isolated personality, pledging him to contemplation and inaction. It is to be expected that there should be a close relationsip between the culture of a given society and the means used by its members to achieve release and euphoria. For Judaism and Christianity the means has always been alcohol; for Islam it has been hashish. The first is dynamic in its effects, the other static. If a nation wishes, however mistakenly, to Westernize itself, first let it give up hashish. The rest will follow, more or less as a manner of course. Conversely, in a Western country, if a whole segment of the population desires, for reasons of protest (as has happened in the United States), to isolate itself in a radical fashion from the society around it, the quickest and surest way is for it to replace alcohol b ~ Paul Bowles

By the time of the United States Tricentennial, there will be more government workers than there are workers. ~ Norman Ralph Augustine
Politics Of The United States quotes by Norman Ralph Augustine
I want my candidacy for the presidency of the United States to stand for a moment when we the people, stand once again for the independence from a government that has gotten too big and spends too much and has taken away too much of our liberties. ~ Michele Bachmann
Politics Of The United States quotes by Michele Bachmann
The United States is afraid of China; it is not a military threat to anyone and is the least aggressive of all the major military powers. ~ Noam Chomsky

I never worked with Marilyn Monroe, but if she'd lived, I think she would have been all right. She would have been President of the United States. ~ Walter Matthau
Politics Of The United States quotes by Walter Matthau
We're like a shattered peasant society. I mean, the last study I saw of it was done in around 1980, and the United States was at the level of Bangladesh, it was very close to Iran.33 Eighty percent of Americans literally believe in religious miracles. Half the population thinks the world was created a couple thousand years ago and that fossils were put here to mislead people or something - half the population. You just don't find things like that in other industrial societies.34 Well, ~ Noam Chomsky
Politics Of The United States quotes by Noam Chomsky
Much of what is euphemistically known as the middle class, merely because it dresses up to go to work, is now reduced to proletarian conditions of existence. Many white-collar jobs require no more skill and pay even less than blue-collar jobs, conferring little status or security. ~ Christopher Lasch
Politics Of The United States quotes by Christopher Lasch
When we have in mind that from 25 to 75 per cent of individuals in various communities in the United States have a distinct irregularity in the development of the dental arches and facial form, the cause and significance of which constitutes one of the important problems of this study, the striking contrast found in these Peruvian skulls will be seen to constitute a challenge for our modern civilizations. In a study of 1,276 skulls of these ancient Peruvians, I did not find a single skull with significant deformity of the dental arches ~ Anonymous
