The consequences of the regulation regarding the use of footpaths were rather serious for me. I always went out for a walk through President Street to an open plain. President Kruger's house was in this street – a very modest, unostentatious building, without a garden and not distinguishable from other houses in its neighbourhood. The houses of many of the millionaires in Pretoria were far more pretentious, and were surrounded by gardens. Indeed President Kruger's simplicity was proverbial. Only the presence of a police patrol before the house indicated that it belonged to some official. I nearly always went along the footpaths past this patrol without the slightest hitch or hindrance.

Now the man on duty used to be changed from time to time. Once one of these men, without giving me the slightest warning, without even asking me to leave the footpath, pushed and kicked me into the street. I was dismayed. Before I could question him as to his behaviour, Mr Coates, who happened to be passing the spot on horseback, hailed me and said:

'Gandhi, I have seen everything. I shall gladly be your witness in court if you proceed against the man. I am very sorry you have been so rudely assaulted.'

'You need not be sorry,' I said. 'What does the poor man know? All coloured people are the same to him. He no doubt treats Negroes just as he has treated me. I have made it a rule not to go to court in respect of any personal grievance. So I do not intend to proc ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Police Patrol quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
Crime in the city streets is more than a political issue. It's a too rampant fact ... In Indianapolis they have come up with a most sensible, affordable approach to the problem. Policemen are assigned their police patrol cars for personal use after hours. They are encouraged to use the police car while taking the family shopping, to the movies, and everywhere one takes one's family. As a result, says the Police Chief's assistant, we may have as many as 400 cars on the street instead of 100 or so per shift. [And] the presence of the police car obviously indicates the proximity of policemen. ~ Malcolm Forbes
Police Patrol quotes by Malcolm Forbes
Police violence, I noted, was directly proportional to police boredom, and not to any resistance offered by protestors. ~ J.G. Ballard
Police Patrol quotes by J.G. Ballard
The alleged music preached of the wrongs democracy had perpetrated on the people and how to protest against the causes of their pain, which would be, according to the fascist propagandists, the police, the military, the rich and the current American government. His ballads were to call for youth and the downtrodden to unite and fight against poverty, injustice and social ills - by destroying the American way of life. Radio ~ Louis L'Amour
Police Patrol quotes by Louis L'Amour
The wrongful arrest of tens of thousands of British Muslims after the September 11 attacks can be explained by the very poor intelligence the police had, and, just possibly, excused by the fact that a terrorist action in Britain linked to British Muslims would have been hugely damaging. ~ Geoff Mulgan
Police Patrol quotes by Geoff Mulgan
There's no police like Holmes. ~ James Joyce
Police Patrol quotes by James Joyce
End-stage addiction is mostly about waiting for the police, or someone, to come and bury you in your shame. ~ David Carr
Police Patrol quotes by David Carr
It was better walk with dignity than ride in shame. A lot of people in Cincinnati are saying, "Rather than have the continual problems of police brutality and economic disparity, I'm willing to make some sacrifices." And I think that they ought to be respected for doing that. ~ Al Sharpton
Police Patrol quotes by Al Sharpton
Sam Temple was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Los Angeles, where there were specialists there in burn injuries. He wasn't consulted: he was found on his knees, obviously in shock, extensively burned. EMTs took over.
Astrid Ellison was taken to a hospital in Santa Barbara, as was Diana Ladris.
Other kids were shared out among half a dozen hospitals. Some specialized in plastic surgery, others in the effects of starvation.
Over the next week all were seen by psychiatrists once their immediate physical injuries were addressed. Lots of psychiatrists. And when they weren't being seen by psychiatrists, they were being seen by FBI agents, and California Highway Patrol investigators, and lawyers from the district attorney's office.
The consensus seemed to be that a number of the Perdido survivors, as they were now known, would be prosecuted for crimes ranging from simple assault to murder.
First on that list was Sam Temple. ~ Michael Grant
Police Patrol quotes by Michael Grant
Once upon a time, my government turned my city into a police state, kidnapped me, and tortured me. When I got free, I decided that the problem wasn't the system, but who was running it. Bad guys had gotten into places of high office. We needed good apples. I worked my butt off to get people to vote for good apples. We had elections. We installed the kind of apples everyone agreed would be the kind of apples we could be proud of. They said good things. A few real dirtbags like Carrie Johnstone lost their jobs.
And then, well, the good apples turned out to act pretty much exactly like the bad apples. Oh, they had reasons. There were emergencies. Circumstances. It was all really regrettable.
But there were always emergencies, weren't there? ~ Cory Doctorow
Police Patrol quotes by Cory Doctorow
When we came back to the sun deck, the party talk had swung around to the bones found at the end of the street. Carey was saying the police had been to ask her if there was anything she remembered that might help to identify the bones as her husband's. "I told them," she was saying, "that that rascal had run off and left me, not been killed. For weeks after he didn't come back, I thought he might walk back through that door with those diapers. You know," she told Aubrey parenthetically, "he left to get diapers for the baby and never came back." Aubrey nodded, perhaps to indicate understanding or perhaps because he'd already heard this bit of Lawrenceton folklore. ~ Charlaine Harris
Police Patrol quotes by Charlaine Harris
Kids didn't just disappear unless someone made them disappear.'Relax, mate,' the head of security said. 'We've never lost one yet.' Lots of kids wandered off at the Easter Show, he told them. They were always found, usually somewhere near the food.Doug had tried to relax, to stay calm, but he could feel the panic building inside him.The place was too big. There were too many people.Lockie could be anywhere. The police were called. It took hours for everyone to leave the showgrounds because every family was stopped. Every parent was questioned and every child identified. It was way past midnight when everyone had finally gone home, and still they had not found Lockie. The head of security changed his tone. The police held whispered conversations in groups. They began to look at him with sympathy in their eyes.Doug felt his heart slow down. There was a ringing in his ears. He was underwater and he couldn't swim.Lockie was gone. They had lost one.Sammy had gone from impatience to hunger to exhaustion. She didn't understand what was happening.Sarah sat next to the pram twisting her hands. She did not cry. She didn't cry for days, but every time Doug went near her he could hear her muttering the word 'please'. 'Please, please, please, please.' It drove Doug mad and he had to move away because he wanted to hit her, to snap her out of her trance. He had never lifted a hand to his wife or his children, but now he had to close his fist and dig his nails into his palm to keep himself from ~ Nicole Trope
Police Patrol quotes by Nicole Trope
I was silently reciting to myself the 23rd Psalm, 'The Lord is my shepherd; I shal not want ... ' [ ... ] The man with the tinted spectacles and the man from the police department were looking at me thoughtfully. They mistook my silence as a sign of weakening. I knew I had to show courage. In fact, I felt much better for having recited the words of the psalm. I had not been so free of fear the whole evening as I was in that moment standing beside the black jeep, a symbol of repression. I lifted my head and said in a loud and firm voice, 'I'm not guilty! I have nothing to confess. ~ Nien Cheng
Police Patrol quotes by Nien Cheng
It is human agitation, with all the vulgarity of needs small and great, with its flagrant disgust for the police who repress it, it is the agitation of all menthat alone determines revolutionary mental forms, in opposition to bourgeois mental forms. ~ Georges Bataille
Police Patrol quotes by Georges Bataille
We used to talk and smile seven days ago when I was wearing a suit. Now I'm dressed in a beard and smell of dog shit I don't even get eye contact. I ask her how her week is going, and she looks to her friend behind the counter as if to say: I think this creep is hitting on me. Shall we call the police? ~ Craig Stone
Police Patrol quotes by Craig Stone
I just listened to a man in total denial of the fact that he gunned down an innocent man. ~ Mark M. Bello
Police Patrol quotes by Mark M. Bello
If you are a police dog, where's your badge? ~ James Thurber
Police Patrol quotes by James Thurber
I didn't want to understand. Bert had been thrilled that the police wanted to put me on retainer. He told me I would gain valuable experience working with the police. All I had gained so far was a wider variety of nightmares. ~ Laurell K. Hamilton
Police Patrol quotes by Laurell K. Hamilton
Let's dig deep to build the kind of police force that our fatherland really deserves. We need a revolution of the police force here in Venezuela, and I will carry it out without delay, without excuses. ~ Nicolas Maduro
Police Patrol quotes by Nicolas Maduro
The police will want particulars, since you are the divorced husband, but I'll leave that to them. One more question, a hypothetical one. If Carol Mardus had a baby by Richard Valdon, conceived in April of last year and born last January, four months after Valdon's death; and if X knew about it, helped her dispose of it, and later, moved by pique or jealousy or spite, took it and left it in Mrs. Valdon's vestibule, who is X? Of the men in Carol Mardus's orbit, which one fits the specifications? I don't ask you to accuse, merely to suggest. ~ Rex Stout
Police Patrol quotes by Rex Stout
The frightened soul ran into the wine cellar with the steel door. I'm safe, Calloway thought, but he was dead wrong. Railrunner's claws slashed through the steel door. They cut through the metal like butter. He then began to pull the door off its hinges.
Suddenly a smoke bomb fell to the floor, making the place vaporous, but Railrunner's eyes could see through it. He discovered the flashing lights of squad cars. His eyes narrowed and he growled low in his throat.
"Come on out with your hands up!" an officer yelled.
Railrunner walked upright towards the entrance. He then pushed the doors off their hinges and stood in the line of fire.
"It's a - roller coaster?" One of the police said baffled, the gun shaking in his hand.
Railrunner crossly walked up to the police. They began to fire, their bullets simply bouncing off of him. He then grabbed the front bumper of the cruiser, and tossed it like a toy. It smashed into another car. Railrunner flung an officer out of his way and roared in sheer amusement. Within a blink of an eye he obliterated the small police force. ~ Miranda Leek
Police Patrol quotes by Miranda Leek
Rents once sais, thirs nothin like a darker skin tone tae increase the vigilance ay the police n the magistrates: too right. ~ Irvine Welsh
Police Patrol quotes by Irvine Welsh
Illegal immigration can never be completely stopped, no matter how high the wall or how many patrol agents you have watching it. ~ Gail Collins
Police Patrol quotes by Gail Collins
If the thought police come to Armitage Baptist Church, we will meet them at the door respectfully, unflinchingly, willing to die on this hill, holding a copy of the Sacred Scriptures in one hand and a copy of the U.S. Constitution in the other. ~ Todd Starnes
Police Patrol quotes by Todd Starnes
I visited the compound of the American embassy and talked to the police and the people and encouraged them, and I told them to take the proper measure and apply the law against the people who are attacking them and attacking the buildings. ~ Hesham Qandil
Police Patrol quotes by Hesham Qandil
The policeman on the beat or in the patrol car makes more decisions and exercises broader discretion affecting the daily likes of people every day and to a greater extent, in many respects, than a judge will ordinarily exercise in a week. ~ Warren E. Burger
Police Patrol quotes by Warren E. Burger
We will no longer be oppressed by the fascism called Christianity. We will no longer be oppressed by the mentality of the police state. ~ Marilyn Manson
Police Patrol quotes by Marilyn Manson
I've always liked police-blotter kind of writing, or the writing of a policeman, right to the point and hardboiled. That's how I see at least the prose elements of scriptwriting. ~ Jonathan Ames
Police Patrol quotes by Jonathan Ames
Ruth Cole was a novelist; novelists are not at their best when they go off half-cocked. She believed that she would prepare what she was going to tell the police - preferably in writing. ~ John Irving
Police Patrol quotes by John Irving
The long-simmering anger at racism and economic injustice of alienated black youth in the ghettoes was erupting into violent and destructive urban insurrections. In every case these "riots" were triggered by police brutality or misconduct, most usually the killing or brutalizing of an unarmed black man. ~ H. Rap Brown
Police Patrol quotes by H. Rap Brown
In England, we have such good manners that if someone says something impolite, the police will get involved. ~ Russell Brand
Police Patrol quotes by Russell Brand
There are certain age limits on police officers. They'd have retired me out at 65. ~ Clint Eastwood
Police Patrol quotes by Clint Eastwood
When I was small your grandmother used to say that if you become a police officer, you can't choose who to protect. You have to try to protect everyone. ~ Fredrik Backman
Police Patrol quotes by Fredrik Backman
It's hard out here for a fantasy writer, after all; there's all these 'rules' I'm supposed to follow, or the Fantasy Police might come and make me do hard labor in the Cold Iron Mines. ~ N.K. Jemisin
Police Patrol quotes by N.K. Jemisin
West Baltimore. You sit on your stoop, you drink Colt 45 from a brown paper bag and you watch the radio car roll slowly around the corner. You see the gunman, you hear the shots, you gather on the far corner to watch the paramedics load what remains of a police officer into the rear of an ambulance. Then you go back to your rowhouse, open another can, and settle in front of the television to watch the replay on the eleven o'clock news. Then you go back to the stoop. ~ David Simon
Police Patrol quotes by David Simon
It's really sad when pizza can make it to you faster than the police, ~ Colleen Hoover
Police Patrol quotes by Colleen Hoover
The happiness police are going to come and arrest us if we go on this way. Arrest us for our luck. ~ Maggie Nelson
Police Patrol quotes by Maggie Nelson
I guess they call it suicide, but I'm to full to swallow my pride I can't stand losing you The Police Dying is an art, like everything else. I do it exceptionally well. ~ Sylvia Plath
Police Patrol quotes by Sylvia Plath
that Victoria's wife has said that she will phone the police if Victoria ever so much as even mentions this topic again. ~ Jennifer Finney Boylan
Police Patrol quotes by Jennifer Finney Boylan
Billions of dollars, trying unsuccessfully to keep drugs out of the world's most porous border? One-tenth of the anti-drug budget going into education and treatment, nine-tenths of those billions into interdiction? And not enough money from anywhere going into the root causes of the drug problem itself. And the billions spent keeping drug offenders locked up in prison, the cells now so crowded we have to give early release to murderers. Not to mention the fact that two-thirds of all the "non-drug" offenses in America are committed by people high on dope or alcohol. And our solutions are the same futile non-solutions - build more prisons, hire more police, spend more and more billions of dollars not curing the symptoms while we ignore the disease. Most people in my area who want to kick drugs can't afford to get into a treatment program unless they have blue-chip health insurance, which most of them don't. And there's a six-month-to-two-year waiting list to get a bed in a subsidized treatment program. We're spending almost $2 billion poisoning cocaine crops and kids over here, while there's no money at home to help someone who wants to get off drugs. It's insanity. ~ Don Winslow
