The whole point of taking pictures is so that you don't have to explain things with words. ~ Elliott Erwitt
Photographing People quotes by Elliott Erwitt
I'm more interested in photographing people who have done something, like writers or directors - even billionaires - as long as I can study them before I photograph them. ~ Francesco Carrozzini
Photographing People quotes by Francesco Carrozzini
There's always been something illicit about the way I work. I'm photographing people I don't know, when nobody else is home - there's a necessary degree of secrecy. ~ Katy Grannan
Photographing People quotes by Katy Grannan
If a subject has a delicate surface to it, you do not want to go charging in there. You need to establish some kind of presence and understanding. I will say, Try to forget I'm here. I won't ask you to pose, I won't ask you to do anything. It's important that I just be allowed to be around, to be present. Photographing people requires a willingness to be rejected. So, I think the best approach is to be honest and direct. Very often, I tell them, You don't know me. There's no reason why you should trust me ... the only thing I can promise is that I'll try to do the most honest work I can. ~ William Albert Allard
Photographing People quotes by William Albert Allard
To photograph people is to obligate them in some way to face things they weren't expecting to. ~ Susana Fortes
Photographing People quotes by Susana Fortes
Photography of any living being, according to Taliban rule, was illegal. So when I went to Afghanistan, immediately I was worried about photographing people. But it was what I wanted: to show what life was like under the Taliban, specifically for women. ~ Lynsey Addario
Photographing People quotes by Lynsey Addario
I've never been comfortable photographing people I know, myself included. I guess I prefer the mystery of strangers. ~ Alec Soth
Photographing People quotes by Alec Soth
My way in for photographing people is really their work. I'm always interested in what people make, and then I photograph the person. Sometimes the person is a disappointment. But that's the risk. It informs me a lot about the character of a person if I know their work first. ~ Anton Corbijn
Photographing People quotes by Anton Corbijn
The interviews have gotten much longer with 'Humans of New York.' When I was first starting, I was just photographing people. And then I went to just kind of including a quote or two. Now when I'm approaching somebody on the street, I'm spending about 30 to 45 minutes with them often. ~ Brandon Stanton
Photographing People quotes by Brandon Stanton
Ultimately success or failure in photographing people depends on the photographer's ability to understand his fellow man. ~ Edward Weston
Photographing People quotes by Edward Weston
I only work with people I like. ~ Nile Rodgers
Photographing People quotes by Nile Rodgers
Your brother cooks because he wants to comfort people, to show them the pleasure their bodies are capable of experiencing, to make them pause and savor their own existence as they fly through life. You can see it in his face every time someone eats his food... And me? I do it because I want to save lives, take away suffering. Whatever the case, we want to change things around us. Because we want to matter, and we believe that our work makes us matter. The work isn't the end, it's the means for what we really want: to matter. ~ Sonali Dev

At this point, I must describe an important study carried out by Clare W. Graves of Union College, Schenectady, N.Y. on deterioration of work standards. Professor Graves starts from the Maslow-McGregor assumption that work standards deteriorate when people react against workcontrol systems with boredom, inertia, cynicism... A fourteen-year study led to the conclusion that, for practical purposes, we may divide people up into seven groups, seven personality levels, ranging from totally selfpreoccupied and selfish to what Nietzsche called 'a selfrolling wheel'-a thoroughly self-determined person, absorbed in an objective task. This important study might be regarded as an expansion of Shotover's remark that our interest in the world is an overflow of our interest in ourselves - and that therefore nobody can be genuinely 'objective' until they have fully satiated the subjective cravings. What is interesting - and surprising - is that it should not only be possible to distinguish seven clear personality-ypes, but that these can be recognised by any competent industrial psychologist. When Professor Graves's theories were applied in a large manufacturing organisation - and people were slotted into their proper 'levels' - the result was a 17% increase in production and an 87% drop in grumbles.

The seven levels are labelled as follows:

(1) Autistic
(2) Animistic
(3) Awakening and fright
(4) Aggressive power seeking
(5) Sociocentric
(6) Ag ~ Colin Wilson

I've always felt very proud of Wales and being Welsh. People are a bit surprised when I say I'm Welsh. I was born in Wales, went to school in Wales and my mother was Welsh. I'm Welsh. It's my place of birth, my country. ~ John Prescott
Photographing People quotes by John Prescott
Extremely religious, legalistic people have a criticism or judgment about everyone and everything. They just have a way of bringing people down with what they say. ~ Joyce Meyer
Photographing People quotes by Joyce Meyer
People tell me I live in the past. We all live in the past, I tell them, we just don't know it yet." ("Love Stories Are Too Violent For Me," Wild Card Press, 1995) ~ Will Viharo
Photographing People quotes by Will Viharo
Poetical feelings are a peril to scholarship. There are always poetical people ready to protest that a corrupt line is exquisite. Exquisite to whom? The Romans were foreigners writing for foreigners two millenniums ago; and for people whose gods we find quaint, whose savagery we abominate, whose private habits we don't like to talk about, but whose idea of what is exquisite is, we flatter ourselves, mysteriously identical to ours. ~ Tom Stoppard
Photographing People quotes by Tom Stoppard
You can't be held captive by the fear of failure or the fear of what people may say. ~ Kobe Bryant

People see my body, but my soul is lost, and I do not have anything left to give."
~Love is respect ♥~ ~ Charlena E. Jackson

Locke's essay on Toleration of 1689 argued for the toleration of opinions and ways of life with which you do not agree, as one of the virtues of a liberal society. But many who call themselves liberal today seem to have little understanding of what this virtue really is. Toleration does not mean renouncing all opinions that others might find offensive. It does not mean an easy-going relativism or a belief that 'anything goes'. On the contrary, it means accepting the right of others to think and act in ways of which you disapprove. It means being prepared to protect people from negative discrimination even when you hate what they think and what they feel. But ~ Roger Scruton

Many people think it's in bad taste to advertise for an insane asylum ... but come on down. We're going crazy. ~ Colin Mochrie
Photographing People quotes by Colin Mochrie
I don't know if it's a movement, but the only thing new that's happening is that I think music and art and video and fashion are all kind of thrown into one big ball that's on television, and people see that all the time - you see a fusion of all those things. ~ Stephen Sprouse
Photographing People quotes by Stephen Sprouse
Call my cynical...but I've come to believe that most people who follow a total wack job aren't always true believers. They just like to follow. They like the perks. Makes them feel strong. Kind of weakens your faith in fruitcake fanatics. ~ Jonathan Maberry
Photographing People quotes by Jonathan Maberry
True leaders serve the people. They have no power but what we lend, and what I give in good faith can be taken away." "The wealthy own my world." "Then it is broken. ~ Penelope Fletcher

You're always in a tunnel that you can't see the end of. But there's something that took place on this movie that I don't think we expected and that was that once we decided that the entire cast would be real retired opera singers and retired musicians ... and these people the phone hadn't rung for them for 20 or 40 years even though they can deliver. ~ Dustin Hoffman
Photographing People quotes by Dustin Hoffman
Most of the successful people I've known are the ones who do more listening than talking. ~ Bernard M. Baruch
Photographing People quotes by Bernard M. Baruch
You're a stone cold killer, Frank. You kill people for a living. And so does this German guy. You aren't heroes. You're what most people fear. You're the antitheses of a hero. You ever think of that? ~ Jon F. Merz
Photographing People quotes by Jon F. Merz
I haven't got one or two people that I aspired to be like. ~ Ruth Wilson
Photographing People quotes by Ruth Wilson
He [Aristotle] pointed out that people who had become initiates in the various mystery religions were not required to learn any facts 'but to experience certain emotions and to be put in a certain disposition.' Hence his famous literary theory that tragedy effected a purification (katharsis) of the emotions of terror and pity that amounted to an experience of rebirth. ~ Karen Armstrong

If you want to keep people happy, just keep the food and entertainment rolling. ~ E.A. Bucchianeri
Photographing People quotes by E.A. Bucchianeri
The truth is that most people have a better chance to be uncommon by effort than by natural gifts. Anyone could give that effort in his or her chosen endeavor, but the typical person doesn't, choosing to do only enough to get by. ~ Tony Dungy
Photographing People quotes by Tony Dungy
Beware some people are just talking to you to gain information to use against you. Be careful with what you say around others because it may not be understood the way you expected. There are those who are waiting for the opportunity to spread rumors. And, with only a few words your life has been turned into a soap opera. ~ Amaka Imani Nkosazana

The people who know God well - the mystics, the hermits, those who risk everything to find God - always meet a lover, not a dictator. God is never found to be an abusive father or a tyrannical mother, but always a lover who is more than we dared hope for. How different than the "account manager" that most people seem to worship. God is a lover who receives and forgives everything. ~ Richard Rohr
Photographing People quotes by Richard Rohr
You see, nobody cares about me except you. You don't know what that's like. You've always had people who cared. You've always had people. I've never had anybody. No wonder I feel frustrated. ~ Iris Murdoch
Photographing People quotes by Iris Murdoch
For the continued survival of our planet and humanity, it is crucial that certain discoveries and skills and inventions made by people over the years be passed on from one human generation to the next, from one person, face-to-face, to another. ~ Chris Raschka
Photographing People quotes by Chris Raschka
The theory of evolution is impossible. At base, in spirit of appearances, no one any longer believes in it ... Evolution is a kind of dogma which the priests no longer believe, but which they maintain for their people. ~ Paul Lemoine
Photographing People quotes by Paul Lemoine
How does he make it stop? All this worrying about other people, worrying about himself, worrying about hings that might happen before they even do-- what did any of that get him except a life he wants to leave? ~ Jung Yun
Photographing People quotes by Jung Yun
We must try again to be alive to what the people of our country really long for in our national life: forgiveness and grace, maturity and wisdom.
... Our political leaders will know our priorities only if we tell them, again and again, and if those priorities begin to show up in the polls. ~ Peggy Noonan

To destroy a people, then, is to set them back in time. ~ Ocean Vuong
Photographing People quotes by Ocean Vuong
Art, literature, and philosophy are attempts to found the world anew on a human freedom: that of the creator; to foster such an aim, one must first unequivocally posit oneself as a freedom. The restrictions that education and custom impose on a woman limit her grasp of the universe...Indeed, for one to become a creator, it is not enough to be cultivated, that is, to make going to shows and meeting people part of one's life; culture must be apprehended through the free movement of a transcendence; the spirit with all its riches must project itself in an empty sky that is its to fill; but if a thousand fine bonds tie it to the earth, its surge is broken. The girl today can certainly go out alone, stroll in the Tuileries; but I have already said how hostile the street is: eyes everywhere, hands waiting: if she wanders absentmindedly, her thoughts elsewhere, if she lights a cigarette in a cafe, if she goes to the cinema alone, an unpleasant incident can quickly occur; she must inspire respect by the way she dresses and behaves: this concern rivets her to the ground and self. "Her wings are clipped." At eighteen, T.E. Lawrence went on a grand tour through France by bicycle; a young girl would never be permitted to take on such an adventure...Yet such experiences have an inestimable impact: this is how an individual in the headiness of freedom and discovery learns to look at the entire world as his fief...[The girl] may feel alone within the world: she never stands up in front of i ~ Simone De Beauvoir

I like to think 'The God Delusion' is a humorous book. I think, actually, it's full of laughs. And people who describe it as a polarizing book or as an aggressive book, it's just that very often they haven't read it. ~ Richard Dawkins
Photographing People quotes by Richard Dawkins
Perhaps you are right. In another setting it would be ridiculous, too grand. In another setting it would not happen because you are a famous woman and at best I would shake your famous hand for one second while you stepped into your car after a performance. But in this place I hear you sing every day. In this place I watch you eat your dinner, and what I feel in my heart is love. There is no point in not telling you that. These people who detain us so pleasantly may decide to shoot us after all. It is a possibility. And if that is the case, then why should I carry this love with me to the other world? Why not give to you what is yours? ~ Ann Patchett
Photographing People quotes by Ann Patchett
Perhaps even "his own people" - this time not the Jewish people of the first century, but the would-be Christian people of the Western world - have not been ready to recognize Jesus himself. We want a "religious" leader, not a king! We want someone to save our souls, not rule our world! Or, if we want a king, someone to take charge of our world, what we want is someone to implement the policies we already embrace, just as Jesus's contemporaries did. ~ N. T. Wright
Photographing People quotes by N. T. Wright
The overseer beat him, tried to starve him, wouldn't let him have any shoes, treated him so badly that he had a very intense, passionate hatred for white people. My grandfather was the one who instilled in my mother and her sisters, and in their children, that you don't put up with bad treatment from anybody. It was passed down almost in our genes, ~ Rosa Parks
