Both my parents are chefs ... I grew up in a restaurant and was always surrounded by cooks. I love food. ~ Ming-Na Wen
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Ming-Na Wen
I associate so many fond memories with food. On that damp evening, along in a tiny restaurant smelling of mildew and lobster, I was 1,600 miles from everyone I knew and loved. After one bite of the pie, I closed my eyes, and taste transported me back to the warm, familiar comfort of my grandmother's kitchen. She always had a pie sitting on the kitchen counter, ready to serve, and a fresh pot of coffee brewing. ~ Debi Tolbert Duggar
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Debi Tolbert Duggar
Do you really behave like this, or just to people who've sustained injuries at your restaurant?" she asked.
"I was raised to be a gentleman, but if opening a few doors saves me some legal fees, consider me at your service. ~ Armada West
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Armada West
A good spice often deceives us into thinking that someone is a good cook. ~ Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Mokokoma Mokhonoana
I can't go to a restaurant and order food because I keep looking at the fonts on the menu. ~ Donald Knuth
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Donald Knuth
In my early days, I copied the great French chefs, like most chefs do. Copying is not bad. Copying and not recognizing that you are copying is bad. For me, when I go to a restaurant and am served a dish influenced by something we created at elBulli, if it's well done, it makes me extremely happy. ~ Ferran Adria
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Ferran Adria
Few people would dream of hiring a contractor to build them a house and expect it to be built to a safe standard only 85 percent of the time; similarly, few people would want to eat out in a restaurant where only 85 percent of the meals were safe to eat. Why then do we accept such sloppiness in road safety, where a situation in which 85 percent of drivers going the speed limit is deemed to be good enough? ~ Neil Arason
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Neil Arason
I'd much rather sit next to a smoker in a restaurant than a nose-blower. ~ Lewis Grizzard
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Lewis Grizzard
New York is a city of conversations overheard, of people at the next restaurant table (micrometers away) checking your watch, of people reading the stories in your newspaper on the subway train. ~ Bill Geist
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Bill Geist
When you look at a kitchen, you tend to see that the people who are doing really well are those who have worked with the same chef or stayed in one restaurant for a significant amount of time. ~ Daniel Humm
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Daniel Humm
Writers get exactly the right amount of fame: just enough to get a good table in a restaurant but not enough so that people are constantly interrupting you while you're eating dinner. ~ Fran Lebowitz
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Fran Lebowitz
To avoid sounding like a cliche, I won't say I want to get proposed to in Paris, but Paris. I want it to happen somewhere public where people can be excited that I just got proposed to, and everyone applauds, like in a restaurant - that, or somewhere totally secluded ... in Paris. ~ Betty Who
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Betty Who
A Yuppie is someone who believes it's courageous to eat in a restaurant that hasn't been reviewed yet. ~ Mort Sahl
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Mort Sahl
I never eat in a restaurant that's over a hundred feet off the ground and won't stand still. ~ Calvin Trillin
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Calvin Trillin
I don't think it's a good advert for any restaurant, a fat chef, and secondly, who wants to eat a dessert when the chef's a fat pig. ~ Gordon Ramsay
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Gordon Ramsay
Question the Thought "Failure is Just for Losers"

A failure-related thinking error that anxious perfectionists sometimes make is thinking that failure is just for losers. If you have this thinking bias, try this thought experiment:
Experiment: Think of a highly successful person you admire. It can be anyone, from Oprah to someone you actually know.
What failures has this person experienced in areas where he or she is generally successful? Has a businessperson you admire made some bad investments? Has your favorite actor made a movie that lost money? Has your favorite musician had an album flop?
You may be able to think of examples and failures off the top of your head, or you may need to do some online research or read a biography of that person. Make sure the examples are relevant to the person's core domain of success. A superstar chef opening a restaurant and failing is more relevant than an actor opening a restaurant and failing.
After you've done the thought experiment, ask yourself, "What's an alternative thought that's more realistic and less harsh than 'Failure is just for losers'?"
Alternate option: Ask mentors (people you actually know) about examples of their failures. Ask them what they learned from the experiences. You could also ask your mentors for examples of failures that have happened to prominent people in your field. They might be more willing to volunteer this information than to talk about their own failures. ~ Alice Boyes
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Alice Boyes
I love Mexican food, and there's a really good restaurant called El Parador that I love. ~ Jacquelyn Jablonski
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Jacquelyn Jablonski
God wants us to use our resources to help others, but He does not want us to be naïve. Use the business, common and spiritual sense that God has blessed you with to stand up to people with unfair business practices. Study His word to see how He handles the enemy when it tries to disguise itself as a supportive customer of yours. The same family member asking you for a free service is the same person that would never think to negotiate their electric bill. The same church member who wants a discount is the same person who will go to a restaurant and not only pay the full bill, but tip the waitress on top of it! Do you not deserve that same respect and consideration? ~ V.L. Thompson
Paulies Restaurant quotes by V.L. Thompson
Last time I was down South I walked into this restaurant, and this white waitress came up to me and said: 'We don't serve colored people here.' I said: 'that's all right, I don't eat colored people. Bring me a whole fried chicken. ~ Dick Gregory
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Dick Gregory
In Philadelphia, there's no delineation, they address me as Rocky, for real. They'll say things like: "Rocky, do you like this coat?" Or: "Rock, say hi to my sister." Or: "Yo Rock, I know a great restaurant." There's no Sylvester. Even the Mayor goes: "It's good to have Rocky here today." ~ Sylvester Stallone
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Sylvester Stallone
Eating at a new, highly recommended restaurant is like a Very Important Blind Date, a contract with uncertainty you enter into with great expectation battling the cynicism of experience. You sit waiting, wondering about the upcoming moments of revelation. Somewhere in the back of your head is the dour warning that disappointment is inevitable but you don't really believe it or you wouldn't be there. The best eaters are always optimists. ~ Stuart Stevens
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Stuart Stevens
A couple of months ago, I was down in Florida for the Food and Wine Festival. And this journalist grabbed me and said, 'How does it feel to be a TV guy? You're no longer in the restaurant business.' And I laughed. I asked him, 'How long do you think it takes me to do a season?' He said, 'Well, 200 days.' And I was like, '200 days? Try 20!' ~ Tom Colicchio
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Tom Colicchio
And you punched him in the restaurant?" I grinned. "No, I punched him when he told me my only purpose was to bear his children and then stuck a hand up my shirt." Patrick grinned. "You land the punch?" "Broke his nose." "Good ~ Chloe Neill
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Chloe Neill
I knew that in spite of all the roses and kisses and restaurant dinners a man showered on a woman before he married her, what he secretly wanted when the wedding service ended was for her to flatten out underneath his feet like Mrs. Willard's kitchen mat ~ Sylvia Plath
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Sylvia Plath
My work is very much like the restaurant critic's - a number of factors come together to make for a strong review. ~ Hank Stuever
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Hank Stuever
A man who was, as we say in the restaurant business, one taco short of a combo platter. ~ Joan Bauer
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Joan Bauer
I went out a couple of times with Pierce. He's totally recognizable, and he makes no effort to tone it down. Some people were glancing over at us in the restaurant, and he just went over and introduced himself. And it does work. It dissipates all the attention. Me? I just crawl under the table. ~ Robert Pattinson
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Robert Pattinson
When I was a small boy, my father told me never to recommend a church or a woman to anyone. And I have found it wise never to recommend a restaurant either. Something always goes wrong with the cheese souffle. ~ Edmund G. Love
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Edmund G. Love
When you go to a restaurant, the less you know about what happens in the kitchen, the more you enjoy your meal. ~ Jeffrey Wright
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Jeffrey Wright
No one washes their hands after they piss unless they're in a public place. If I'm at the airport, or a restaurant, and someone else is there, I'll soap up for the sake of civilization, but it's only for show, I don't really care if I have ultraviolet traces of urine or feces on my hands. But, if I see someone walk oudda the men's without soaping up I'll think he's deranged, borderline psychotic. At least pretend that washing your hands matters. You know, for the sake of civilization. ~ Shannon Lyndsy
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Shannon Lyndsy
I just love food, especially my mom's Bulgarian cooking. Taco Bell is my favorite fast food restaurant. I also love Italian food. ~ Leah LaBelle
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Leah LaBelle
I'd remind you of that restaurant around the corner except ... " His gaze flicked over the robe that dipped deep at her breasts and skimmed her thighs. "You'd have to get dressed."
Shelby smiled, a slow invitation, but when he took a step toward her, she dunked bread into the batter. "Get a plate."
He reached into the cupboard she indicated, then drew two plates out before he came to stand behind her. Leaning over, he brushed his lips below her ear, pleased with the quick tremor of response.
"The ones I burn," Shelby warned, "are all yours. ~ Nora Roberts
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Nora Roberts
Fancy computers are engaging in legalized front-running. The profits are clearly coming from the rest of us - our college endowments and our pensions. Why is this legal? What the hell is the government thinking? It's like letting rats into a restaurant. ~ Charlie Munger
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Charlie Munger
With four-appetizer, four-entree menus, it's like, give me a break. That's not a restaurant, that's a dinner party. ~ Joe Bastianich
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Joe Bastianich
I'm someone who'd never base how happy I am on how much money I have, or how good a restaurant is because of how posh it is. ~ Jessie J.
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Jessie J.
Le Cirque at first was one of those general French restaurants in town, which were cooking more or less the same food. At Le Cirque, I wanted to do something different while respecting the foundation of the restaurant. I did that through the menu. ~ Daniel Boulud
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Daniel Boulud
Perhaps I possess a certain Midwestern sensibility that I inherited from my mother and her parents, a sensibility that Warren Buffet seems to share: that at a certain point one has enough, that you can derive as much pleasure from a Picasso hanging in a museum as from one that's hanging in your den, that you can get an awfully good meal in a restaurant for less than twenty dollars, and that once your drapes cost more than the average American's yearly salary, then you can afford to pay a bit more in taxes. ~ Barack Obama
Paulies Restaurant quotes by Barack Obama
The two palm worms are brought in separate bowls, still alive, wriggling fiercely in a bath of turpentine-colored fish sauce with a few slivers of chili. The glossy brown heads of the grubs, the larvae of a weevil that infests palm trees, glisten like popcorn seeds; the wriggling abdomens have pale rubbery ridges. The owner of the restaurant, chubby and affable, comes out to instruct Nhat and me: we are to grasp the heads, pull off the fat white bodies with our teeth, and discard the heads, taking care that the larvae do not nip our tongues with their formidable pincers in the process. Biting down on squirming larvae seems barbaric, but my brain is starting to swim due to hunger, and the fish sauce is muskily aromatic. How bad could their fat glistening bodies taste? And am I not a direct descendant of insectivores, albeit roughly 100 million years removed? I ~ Stephen Le
