I stroll along serenely, with my eyes, my shoes,
my rage, forgetting everything,
I walk by, going through office buildings and orthopedic
shops,
and courtyards with washing hanging from the line:
underwear, towels and shirts from which slow
dirty tears are falling. ~ Pablo Neruda
Office Buildings quotes by Pablo Neruda
A jostling scrum of office buildings so mediocre that the only way you ever remember them is by the frustration they induce - like a basketball team standing shoulder to shoulder between you and the Mona Lisa. ~ Prince Charles
Office Buildings quotes by Prince Charles
I BURST THROUGH my office building's entrance, cursing the subway ~ Magda Alexander
Office Buildings quotes by Magda Alexander
We're seeing the development of tactics in Iraq, such as suicide bombing. Insurgents have been driving cars with explosives into hotels and office buildings. The recruitment may be even more prolific outside Iraq. ~ Rand Beers
Office Buildings quotes by Rand Beers
While the focus in the landscape of Old World cities was commonly government structures, churches, or the residences of rulers, the landscape and the skyline of American cities have boasted their hotels, department stores, office buildings, apartments, and skyscrapers. In this grandeur, Americans have expressed their Booster Pride, their hopes for visitors and new settlers, and customers, for thriving commerce and industry. ~ Daniel J. Boorstin
Office Buildings quotes by Daniel J. Boorstin
The tall modern office building is the machine pure and simple ... the engine, the motor and the battleship the works of the century. ~ Frank Lloyd Wright
Office Buildings quotes by Frank Lloyd Wright
Death is a new office building filled with modern furniture,
A wise thing, but which has no purpose for us. ~ John Ashbery
Office Buildings quotes by John Ashbery
I thought I should call a matchmaker.

For me, this seemed like a radical step. It never occurred to me to hire a matchmaker when I was younger because I always believed I'd meet a man on my own. He'd be sitting next to me on an airplane, waiting in line behind me at the dry cleaner, working in the same office attending the same party, hanging out at the same coffeehouse.

It seemed ridiculous now, when I thought about the odds of this happening. After all, we don't subject other important aspects of out lives to pure chance. When you want to get a job you don't just hang out in the lobbies of office buildings, hoping an employer will strike up a conversation with you. When you want to buy a house, you don't walk aimlessly from neighborhood to neighborhood on your own, hoping to spot a house that happens to be for sale, matches your personal taste and contains the appropriate number of bedrooms and bathrooms. That's too random. If that's your only method of house hunting, you might end up homeless. So you hire a real estate broker to show you the potential homes that meet your needs. By the same token, why not hire a matchmaker to show you potential partners? ~ Lori Gottlieb
Office Buildings quotes by Lori Gottlieb
Mishmar. Your father's hellish prison he cobbled together from the remains of office buildings from Omaha, which he destroyed. The Mishmar that's stuffed to the brink with mutated vampires. That Mishmar." "Yes." "You ~ Ilona Andrews
Office Buildings quotes by Ilona Andrews
Ranger is one of the few civilians in Trenton with a permit to carry concealed. He owns office buildings in Boston, has a daughter in Florida by a failed marriage, has worked worldwide as a mercenary, and has a moral code that isn't entirely in sync with our legal system. I have no idea who the heck he is . . . but I like him. ~ Janet Evanovich
Office Buildings quotes by Janet Evanovich
I marched and I protested against the war in Vietnam, along with many, many thousands of others. But I never quite understood the bombs that were placed in science labs or office buildings. ~ Don DeLillo
Office Buildings quotes by Don DeLillo
Whoever owned this place, these cities, whoever owned those glittering glassy office buildings in midtown filled with the purr of money turning over, those refineries over the river in Jersey with their flames licking the air, they gave nothing back. They took and took and left their garbage choking the air, the river, the sea itself. Choking her. A life of garbage. Human garbage. She had had too little of what her body needed and too little of what her soul could imagine. She had been able to do little in the years of her life, and that little had been ill paid or punished. The rest was garbage. ~ Marge Piercy
Office Buildings quotes by Marge Piercy
It may sound ridiculous to say that Bell and his successors were the fathers of modern commercial architecture - of the skyscraper. But wait a minute. Take the Singer Building, the Flatiron Building, the Broad Exchange, the Trinity, or any of the giant office buildings. How many messages do you suppose go in and out of those buildings every day? Suppose there was no telephone and every message had to be carried by a personal messenger? How much room do you think the necessary elevators would leave for offices? Such structures would be an economic impossibility. ~ John J. Carty
Office Buildings quotes by John J. Carty
And so what moved him onward and down the office building's stairway was not any sort of foolish hope that he could actually be saved, but competitive fury at the fact that he had been outdone by the suicidal improvisations of this fanatic. ~ Neal Stephenson
Office Buildings quotes by Neal Stephenson
I have a hard time with historians because they idolize the truth. The truth is not uplifting; it destroys. I could tell most of the secretaries in the church office building that they are ugly and fat. That would be the truth, but it would hurt and destroy them. Historians should tell only that part of the truth that is inspiring and uplifting. ~ Boyd K. Packer
Office Buildings quotes by Boyd K. Packer
Interest rates are going to go up because employment is going to go up. If employment goes up, then our apartments get filled. And if employment goes up, our office buildings get filled. The reality is that increased economic activity combined with increased interest rates is basically bullish for real estate. ~ Sam Zell
Office Buildings quotes by Sam Zell
I have a good black friend who is a doctor, but he didn't become a doctor because he saw other black men who were doctors. He became a doctor because his mother cleaned office buildings at night, and because she loved her children. She grew bowlegged from cleaning office buildings at night, and in the process she taught him something about courage and bravery and dedication to others. ~ Richard Rodriguez
Office Buildings quotes by Richard Rodriguez
As a kid, we would drive up and down 77 North - that's our highway - there would be office buildings on the side of the highway and I'd be like, that's what my house is going to look like when I get older. I'm going to start making my house look like this. ~ LeBron James
Office Buildings quotes by LeBron James
To my great surprise, Twitter is not housed in a silver pod that orbits Earth at supersonic speeds, vacuuming up and then dispersing digital bits of worldwide chitchat; it's in a big, bland office building in downtown San Francisco, near a bowling alley and an Old Navy. ~ Susan Orlean
Office Buildings quotes by Susan Orlean
Miss Millick wondered just what had happened to Mr. Wran. He kept making the strangest remarks when she took dictation. Just this morning he had quickly turned around and asked, "Have you ever seen a ghost, Miss Millick?" And she had tittered nervously and replied, "When I was a girl there was a thing in white that used to come out of the closet in the attic bedroom when you slept there, and moan. Of course it was just my imagination. I was frightened of lots of things." And he had said, "I don't mean that traditional kind of ghost. I mean a ghost from the world today, with the soot of the factories in its face and the pounding of machinery in its soul. The kind that would haunt coal yards and slip around at night through deserted office buildings like this one. A real ghost. Not something out of books." And she hadn't known what to say. ("Smoke Ghost") ~ Fritz Leiber
Office Buildings quotes by Fritz Leiber
Suppose you were a real estate investor with a 1/3 interest in the best apartment complex in town, the best mall, and the best office building. Would you feel like a poor, undiversified investor? No! But as soon as you get into stocks, people feel this way. Partly, people need to justify their fees. ~ Charlie Munger
Office Buildings quotes by Charlie Munger
There is something patently insane about all the typewriters sleeping with all the beautiful plumbing in the beautiful office buildings -and all the people sleeping in the slums. ~ R. Buckminster Fuller
Office Buildings quotes by R. Buckminster Fuller
They were the most romantic creatures in the city in that room. If their days were spent in banks and office buildings, no matter: Their true lives began when they walked through this door - and were baptized into a deeper faith, as if brought to life by miraculous immersion. They lived only for the night. ~ Andrew Holleran
Office Buildings quotes by Andrew Holleran
It's tough to make funny films. And the truth is, with this process, especially if you write your own movie, then you're giving three years of your life to it. And so, I just have to be sure that when I embark on it that I'm happy to think that in three years' time I'm going to be sitting in a room on the tenth floor of an odd office building at Ginsberg Libby talking about it. So I'm keen not to jump into it too quickly and just make sure it's something that I really want. ~ Dan Mazer
Office Buildings quotes by Dan Mazer
In office buildings and retail premises in which entry is through double doors and one of those doors is locked for no reason, the door must bear a large sign saying: This Door Is Locked for No Reason. ~ Bill Bryson
Office Buildings quotes by Bill Bryson
I couldn't keep my eyes off of her when she was leaning over to open a file drawer. I'd purposely moved all of the expense files to the bottom drawer of the filing cabinet in my office for that very reason. ~ Andrea Smith
Office Buildings quotes by Andrea Smith
The office of the leisure class in social evolution is to retard the movement and to conserve what is obsolescent. This proposition is by no means novel; it has long been one of the commonplaces of popular opinion. ~ Thorstein Veblen
Office Buildings quotes by Thorstein Veblen
Things that need to be dealt with right away. This might include correspondence from his office or business associates, bills, legal documents, and the like. He subsequently performed a fine sort of things to be dealt with today versus in the next few days. Things that are important but can wait. We called this the abeyance pile. This might include investment reports that needed to be reviewed, articles he might want to read, reminders for periodic service on an automobile, invitations to parties or functions that were some time off in the future, and so on. Things that are not important and can wait, but should still be kept. This was mostly product catalogues, holiday cards, and magazines. Things to be thrown out. ~ Daniel J. Levitin
Office Buildings quotes by Daniel J. Levitin
We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office. ~ Aesop
Office Buildings quotes by Aesop
Winning isn't as important as doing well individually. You can't take teamwork up to the front office to negotiate. ~ Ken Landreaux
Office Buildings quotes by Ken Landreaux
There are some people who want me and my husband to stay where it is safe and draw a paycheck every week instead of what we are doing (which is creating and sharing our art with others). The truth is that there are people in this world - Dave and I being two - who would die a slow painful death if stuck in an office and made to do the kind of work that we are not made to do. ~ Mary Engelbreit
Office Buildings quotes by Mary Engelbreit
My desk, most loyal friend thank you. You've been with me on every road I've taken. My scar and my protection. ~ Marina Tsvetaeva
Office Buildings quotes by Marina Tsvetaeva
Basically I was a theatre fanatic. I had a job with Home Box Office as a theatre consultant for a long time. ~ Rob Urbinati
Office Buildings quotes by Rob Urbinati
The domes and dildos of pressurized buildings cast slowly lengthening shadows. ~ Charles Stross
Office Buildings quotes by Charles Stross
I've always managed by walking around. Any CEO or leader who spends the majority of his time in his office is not doing his job. ~ Donny Deutsch
Office Buildings quotes by Donny Deutsch
You want me to do what?"
Joe stretched out on the battered leather couch in his office and tried not to laugh at the tone of horrified shock in his agent's voice. "Dinner date. Reporter from Spotlight Magazine. You heard right."
"Did that Deschanel bitch kidnap one of the kids? Threaten your mother? I know people, Joe. I can take care of this for you. ~ Shannon Stacey
Office Buildings quotes by Shannon Stacey
I see the people who have lived here forever. They walk quickly, indifferent to the buildings. They cross the squares without stopping. I ~ Jhumpa Lahiri
Office Buildings quotes by Jhumpa Lahiri
Her body is a city. Her heart is a large shady square, her fingers pedestrians, her hair the light of streetlamps, her knees two rows of buildings. She tries to give people footpaths. She tries to open up her cheeks and her towers. She didn't know streets hurt so much, not that there were so many streets in her to begin with. She wants to take her body on a stroll, out of her body, but she doesn't know where the key is. ~ Jenny Erpenbeck
Office Buildings quotes by Jenny Erpenbeck
A public office is not a job, it is an opportunity to do something for the public. ~ Franklin Knight Lane
Office Buildings quotes by Franklin Knight Lane
Few American presidents have been unhappier or lonelier in office than Woodrow Wilson. ~ Jill Lepore
Office Buildings quotes by Jill Lepore
In 1995, when Steve Jobs was trying to convince us that we should go public, one of his key arguments was that we would eventually make a film that failed at the box office, and we needed to be prepared, financially, for that day. Going public would give us the capital to fund our own projects and, thus, to have more say about where we were headed, but it would also give us a buffer that could sustain us through failure. Steve's feeling was that Pixar's survival could not depend solely on the performance of each and every movie. The underlying logic of his reasoning shook me: We were going to screw up, it was inevitable. And we didn't know when or how. We had to prepare, then, for an unknown problem - a hidden problem. From that day on, I resolved to bring as many hidden problems as possible to light, a process that would require what might seem like an uncommon commitment to self-assessment. ~ Ed Catmull
Office Buildings quotes by Ed Catmull
We stopped at a door that read GUIDANCE. I always found that term wonderfully vague. The dictionary definition of the word is "advice or information aimed at resolving a problem." In short, an attempt to help. But to us students, the word - this office - is far more frightening. It conjures up our college prospects, growing older, getting a real job - our future. Guidance seemed more like a term for cutting us loose. Spoon ~ Harlan Coben
Office Buildings quotes by Harlan Coben
Through a large field that had turned a dead yellow after an early frost, past the multicoloured clapboard company houses and through a flurry of fabric hanging from clotheslines… after a few minutes he stopped at the edge of a high cliff, where a long time ago he'd been able to see the mine towers and orange smog from the steel mill way off in the distance, and he'd been able to stare for hours at the periwinkle-coloured ocean waves crashing against the jagged rocks below. At times he'd wonder what it would be like to cross the ocean. He knew from the books he'd read that he would be in Europe probably, that by plane it took hours, by boat it took weeks depending on the speed of the boat… he knew the street maps of Paris and London and Pennsylvania. He knew all the monumental buildings of the world… but he was unable to leave, if he tried to leave Nova Scotia, Mearth would lock him in the basement of his house for months, maybe even years, in the dark, isolated…
Not even wanting to consider it, he closed his eyes, the swift wind from the ocean gusting through the scraggly grass. As the sun briefly came out in a haze, a kaleidoscope of reds and golds, he lit a cigarette and tried to imagine that the mill and mines were still in their rightful place. ~ Rebecca McNutt
Office Buildings quotes by Rebecca McNutt
The gag rule must be eliminated, and it's just the gag rule, we're not talking now even about funding abortion. We're talking about, you know, counseling and speaking, so that's one. That can be reversed by an executive order. [George W.]Bush put it in the first day he got in office. We hope that [Barack] Obama takes it out. He had cut off funding for the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, even though Congress had appropriated. It is injured women who are the poorest of the poor. ~ Eleanor Smeal
Office Buildings quotes by Eleanor Smeal
It is pleasant to be transferred from an office where one is afraid of a sergeant-major into an office where one can intimidate generals, and perhaps this is why history is so attractive to the more timid among us. We can recover self-confidence by snubbing the dead. ~ E. M. Forster
Office Buildings quotes by E. M. Forster
I am not in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office. ~ Abraham Lincoln
Office Buildings quotes by Abraham Lincoln
This is continuity, you travel, perhaps in your mind, a paper world real, God reeling up and down landscapes and buildings, knocks down, opens new roads, doesn't like it, changes again, but there isn't a seam, His world is onefold, and you perceive neither seam nor contradiction, continuity only. ~ Dimitris Lyacos
Office Buildings quotes by Dimitris Lyacos
Office Politics are worse than state politics.
Try not to become a Wedge of it. ~ Mohith Agadi
Office Buildings quotes by Mohith Agadi
Why would you turn right on a red light when we can all just sit here behind you waiting to die ... #AHOLE ~ A.O. Storm
Office Buildings quotes by A.O. Storm
I will employ my strength for the welfare of the German people, protect the Constitution and laws of the German people, conscientiously discharge the duties imposed on me, and conduct my affairs of office impartially and with justice to everyone, ~ Adolf Hitler
Office Buildings quotes by Adolf Hitler
The situation was not easy for her, they knew. Once, at the start of last semester, she had skipped into her lecture hall singing "Getting to Know You" - both verses. At the request of the dean the chairman had called her into his office, but did not ask her for an explanation, not really. He asked her how she was and then smiled in an avuncular way. She said, "Fine," and he studied the way she said it, her front teeth catching on the inside of her lower lip. She was almost pretty, but her face showed the strain and ambition of always having been close but not quite. ~ Lorrie Moore
Office Buildings quotes by Lorrie Moore
My office has been one of the most scrupulous in the country with regard to the protection of individual rights. I've been on record for years in law journals and books as championing the rights of the individual against the oppressive power of the state. ~ Jim Garrison
Office Buildings quotes by Jim Garrison
Another important rule of affair-having: Never be discreet at the office. ~ Dave Barry
Office Buildings quotes by Dave Barry
Women deserve better than propaganda and lies to get into panties. Propaganda and lies to get into office, to get out of court, to get out of paying child support. Get the fuck out of our decisions and give us back our voice. Women deserve better; women deserve choice. ~ Sonya Renee Taylor
Office Buildings quotes by Sonya Renee Taylor
The buildings of the farm, a shade darker than the sky, could now be distinguished in the gloom, a little distance on, and as Flora and Adam were slowly approaching them, a door suddenly opened and a beam of light shone out. Adam gave a joyful cry.
'Tes the cowshed! 'Tes our Feckless openin' the door fer me!' And Flora saw that it was indeed; the door of the shed, which was lit by a lantern, was being anxiously pushed open by the nose of a gaunt cow.
This was not promising. ~ Stella Gibbons
Office Buildings quotes by Stella Gibbons
There are great roads, beautiful bridges, lovely parks, gorgeous gardens and wonderful buildings in a big city. But there is something missing, something very important: The spirit of nature! ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
Office Buildings quotes by Mehmet Murat Ildan
Her eyes widened as he guided her backward until she was trapped against the bed. He turned her around so that she faced it.
"You remember when we met, how you told me off in your office? Ever since then, I've wanted something." He smoothed his hands up her legs and pushed up her skirt. With one sharp tug, he ripped her lacy thong and tossed it to the floor. "You at my mercy."
He heard the excited catch of her breath and bent his head to murmur in her ear. "Good thing you still have those heels on. ~ Julie James
Office Buildings quotes by Julie James
Office reformers are pulled in two directions. They either follow Frederick Taylor (the father of scientific management) and the successive waves of management scientists who thought that with enough overhead cameras, spreadsheets, computing power, and analysis, they could "solve" the organization and its problems. Or they follow the dreamers of the 1970s and '80s, who, inspired by the cybernetic-counterculture movement, thought that by getting rid of that same organizational infrastructure, they could free workers to reach their full potential by embracing chaos, complexity, new technology, or all three. ~ Ray Fisman
Office Buildings quotes by Ray Fisman
I'd rather violate every one of the damn conventions and see my bills passed, than sit back in my office, all nice and proper, and watch 'em die. ~ Huey Long
Office Buildings quotes by Huey Long
This first part may be a little rough.' He waved a hand and did his best to appear as if he'd had enormous experience with levitating buildings. ~ Michael Pryor
Office Buildings quotes by Michael Pryor
Anytime I hear about another one of us gone berserk, shooting up his ex's office or drowning her kids to free herself up for her Internet boyfriend, the question I always ask is not, like every other tongue-clucking pundit in the country, how could this have happened? but why doesn't this happen every day? ~ Tim Kreider
Office Buildings quotes by Tim Kreider
True gospel authority, the authority to heal and renew things and people, is not finally found in a hierarchical office, a theological argument, a perfect law, or a rational explanation. The Crucified revealed to the world that the real power that changes people and the world is an inner authority that comes from people who have lost, let go, and are re-found on a new level. ~ Richard Rohr
Office Buildings quotes by Richard Rohr
What it 't to us, if taxes rise or fall,
Thanks to our fortune, we pay none at all.
Let muckworms who in dirty acres deal,
Lament those hardships which we cannot feel,
His grace who smarts, may bellow if he please,
But must I bellow too, who sit at ease?
By custom safe, the poets' numbers flow,
Free as the light and air some years ago.
No statesman e'er will find it worth his pains
To tax our labours, and excise our brains.
Burthens like these with earthly buildings bear,
No tributes laid on castles in the air. ~ Charles Churchill
Office Buildings quotes by Charles Churchill
I had various jobs, I taught a SAT class, I was a bartender, I had a day job at an office and was making short films. I got grants from NYSCA and NEA for an idea, which later became 'Huckabees,' about a guy in a Chinese restaurant who had microphones on every table and heard every personal conversation and would write perversely personal fortunes. ~ David O. Russell
Office Buildings quotes by David O. Russell
Local fog in Venice has a name: nebbia. It obliterates all reflections ... and everything that has a shape: buildings, people, colonnades, bridges, statues. Boat services are canceled, airplanes neither arrive, nor take off for weeks, stores are closed and mail ceases to litter one's threshold. The effect is as though some raw hand had turned all those enfilades inside out and wrapped the lining around the city... the fog is thick, blinding, and immobile... this is a time for reading, for burning electricity all day long, for going easy on self-deprecating thoughts of coffee, for listening to the BBC World Service, for going to bed early. In short, a time for self-oblivion, induced by a city that has ceased to be seen. Unwittingly, you take your cue from it, especially if, like it, you've got company. Having failed to be born here, you at least can take some pride in sharing its invisibility... ~ Joseph Brodsky
Office Buildings quotes by Joseph Brodsky
8. I have told you that it is I. Here we see how the Son of God not only submits to death of his own accord, that by his obedience he may blot out our transgressions, but also how he discharges the office of a good Shepherd in protecting his flock. ~ John Calvin
Office Buildings quotes by John Calvin
If only humans had real feathery wings to jump off from tallest buildings in order to take flights at nights. An escape vagabonding and exploring mother nature's delight! ~ Suyasha Subedi
Office Buildings quotes by Suyasha Subedi
I have no use for "men's rights," any more than I have any use for "women's rights," but let us ask: Who was it that decided it was a good idea to politicize love, sex and marriage? Who spent the past four decades proclaiming that "the personal is political," so that every office flirtation and every petty domestic quarrel is a federal civil rights violation? The damned feminists, that's who. ~ Robert Stacy McCain
Office Buildings quotes by Robert Stacy McCain
My God, I left to attend to one private case, and I've come back to find the entire damned public office falling apart!
-Nick ~ Lisa Kleypas
