These facilities were relatively rustic even for this area of the world. Other inns at least had indoor plumbing and electricity. Most even had radios. But not this one.

Perhaps it had something to do with the part of town he was in. It was known to the locals as the Nostalgia District, though no one really knew how the area had gotten its name. Did it come about through the feeling that it evoked in its residents and visitors? Or was it due to a lack of modern conveniences? The former certainly seemed less likely than the latter as it seemed doubtful that its long-time residents could continually, over the course of years, manage to be subject to a sense of nostalgia. After all, wouldn't the perpetual absence of a modern context, eventually, defeat the purpose of evoking such a feeling? In fact, it would seem more appropriate to assume that visitors who spent enough time within the confines of this area were unwittingly apt to live in the past and become nostalgic for the modern day...or even the future. ~ Ashim Shanker
Nostalgia District quotes by Ashim Shanker
What is nostalgia, after all, but an attempt to preserve that which was good in the past? ~ Ruskin Bond
Nostalgia District quotes by Ruskin Bond
Yet the need for justifying the wealth and power of great corporations in the eyes of the people has never been greater. Why not hark back to Florence, Venice, Antwerp and Amsterdam? The great corporations could devote wealth and energies to cleaning up, improving and adorning our cities. Each large corporation might adopt a city and vie with other corporations to see whose city shines brightest. In the center of each financial district there should be a large plaza in which periodically poets, singers, storytellers and artists of every sort would compete for rich prizes. The corporations should see it as their duty to spot and encourage talent, and celebrate greatness. There should be social intimacy between the powerful and the creative. ~ Eric Hoffer
Nostalgia District quotes by Eric Hoffer
You can't return to a place that no longer exists, luv. ~ Samantha Sotto
Nostalgia District quotes by Samantha Sotto
The idea that she would leave all of this - the rooms of the house once more familiar and warm and comforting - and go back to Brooklyn and not return for a long time again frightened her now. She knew as she sat on the edge of the bed and took her shoes off and then lay back with her arms behind her head that she had spent every day putting off all thought of her departure and what she would meet on her arrival. ~ Colm Toibin
Nostalgia District quotes by Colm Toibin
The print was an old one made from a negative taken in the 1960's of her parents in Sydney Mines, dancing with thrilled, excited expressions on their faces, in front of a classic car that had been a wedding gift at the time. Her mother's hair, red back then, was held back by a blue handkerchief, and she was dressed in a billowing skirt and white blouse. Her father's denim jeans and faded t-shirt were streaked with coal dust as he held her hands and spun her around in the front yard of their old clapboard house, yellow grass under their feet and a cobalt-blue sky with white clouds drifting above. Mandy could almost feel the late summer breeze as she gazed deeply into the print, watching the flamboyant colors come to life. She hung it up to dry on two wooden clothespins hanging from a string above her. ~ Rebecca McNutt
Nostalgia District quotes by Rebecca McNutt
Sleep is a form of nostalgia. It evaluates you for the kind of longings you possess. And for the people in exile, it is the only place where home is not away, where the origin is not detached, where love is reciprocated and memory is not a mere object of refuge. ~ Ashfaq Saraf
Nostalgia District quotes by Ashfaq Saraf
There's no reason that anything should ever become obsolete, whether it be VHS tapes, celluloid film, print books or even the previous versions of a computer operating system, as long as even just one person still wants them around. After all, one thing leads to another, old inventions are the basis for new ones, inventors and designers and scientists and hobbyists worked hard to create all these things, so don't they deserve some respect, enough not to have their ideas buried in the dust by the latest trends and fads? ~ Rebecca McNutt
Nostalgia District quotes by Rebecca McNutt
Real museums are places where Time is transformed into Space. ~ Orhan Pamuk
Nostalgia District quotes by Orhan Pamuk
Beauty is a key to the mystery and a call to transcendence. It is an invitation to savor life and to dream of the future. That is why the beauty of created things can never fully satisfy. It stirs that hidden nostalgia for God which a lover of beauty like Saint Augustine could express in incomparable terms: 'Late have I loved you, beauty so old and so new: late have I loved you!'. ~ Pope John Paul II
Nostalgia District quotes by Pope John Paul II
Imagining the future is a kind of nostalgia. ( ... ) You spend your whole life stuck in the labyrinth, thinking about how you'll escape it one day, and how awesome it will be, and imagining that future keeps you going, but you never do it. You just use the future to escape the present. ~ John Green
Nostalgia District quotes by John Green
Simplicity of living gives you sensitivity of character. A lot of people told me that leaving L.A. and moving to Volcano (district of the Big Island) would ruin my career, but that's my kuleana, my business. ~ Jason Scott Lee
Nostalgia District quotes by Jason Scott Lee
Children who were very truly pious in a Catholic childhood are apt to retain a nostalgia for the absolute. ~ Sonia Orwell
Nostalgia District quotes by Sonia Orwell
The course of our lives follows ancient and immutable laws, with an ancient, changeless rhythm. Dreams never come true, and the instant they are shattered, we realize how the greatest joys of life lie beyond the realm of reality. The instant they are shattered we are sick with longing for the days when they flamed within us. Our fate spends itself in this succession of hope and nostalgia. ~ Natalia Ginzburg
Nostalgia District quotes by Natalia Ginzburg
What had survived - maybe all that had survived of Trism - was Liir's sense of him. A catalog of impressions that arose from time to time, unbidden and often upsetting. From the sandy smell of his sandy hair to the locked grip of his muscles as they had wrestled in sensuous aggression - unwelcome nostalgia. Trism lived in Liir's heart like a full suit of clothes in a wardrobe, dress habillards maybe, hollow and real at once. The involuntary memory of the best of Trism's glinting virtues sometimes kicked up unquietable spasms of longing. ~ Gregory Maguire
Nostalgia District quotes by Gregory Maguire
A sackful of human flesh that lives off its nostalgia for other forgettable things until it comes face to face with what really matters, at which point it shivers like an engine before cutting out. ~ Miljenko Jergovic
Nostalgia District quotes by Miljenko Jergovic
After all, a district judge who gives harsh sentences to Yankees fans and lenient sentences to Red Sox fans would not be acting reasonably even if her procedural rulings were impeccable. ~ John Paul Stevens
Nostalgia District quotes by John Paul Stevens
This mournful and restless sound was a fit accompaniment to my meditations. ~ Joseph Conrad
Nostalgia District quotes by Joseph Conrad
I have an idea that some men are born out of their due place. Accident has cast them amid certain surroundings, but they have always a nostalgia for a home they know not. They are strangers in their birthplace, and the leafy lanes they have known from childhood or the populous streets in which they have played, remain but a place of passage. They may spend their whole lives aliens among their kindred and remain aloof among the only scenes they have ever known. Perhaps it is this sense of strangeness that sends men far and wide in the search for something permanent, to which they may attach themselves. Perhaps some deep-rooted atavism urges the wanderer back to lands which his ancestors left in the dim beginnings of history. ~ W. Somerset Maugham
Nostalgia District quotes by W. Somerset Maugham
Your dress has been a big hit in the Capitol!"
"Has it? Well, the Covey love color, and me more than most. But this was my mama's, so it's extra special to me," she said.
"She in District Twelve?" Lepidus asked.
"Just her bones, darling. Just her pearly white bones. ~ Suzanne Collins
Nostalgia District quotes by Suzanne Collins
Rescuing girls from brothels is the easy part, however. The challenge is keeping them from returning. The stigma that girls feel in their communities after being freed, coupled with drug dependencies or threats from pimps, often lead to return to the re-light district. ~ Nicholas D. Kristof
Nostalgia District quotes by Nicholas D. Kristof
I miss those days even though I wasn't alive. ~ Sherry Turkle
Nostalgia District quotes by Sherry Turkle
Because honor still matters. Honor is what echoes. His father's words. But they are as empty on his lips as they feel in my ears. This was has taken everything from him. I see in his eyes how broken he is. how terribly hard he is trying to be his father's son. If he could, he would choose to be back by the campfire we made in the highlands of the Institute. He would return to the days of glory when life was simple, when friends seemed true. But wishing for the past doesn't clean the blood from either of our hands. ~ Pierce Brown
Nostalgia District quotes by Pierce Brown
There are no problems that exist in the District that have been solved elsewhere in the country. Whatever problems exist in this city exist other places. ~ Chaka Fattah
Nostalgia District quotes by Chaka Fattah
I like to watch his hands as he works, making a blank page bloom with strokes of ink, adding touches of color to our previously black and yellowish book. His face takes on a special look when he concentrates. His usual easy expression is replaced by something more intense and removed that suggests an entire world locked away inside him. I've seen flashes of this before: in the arena, or when he speaks to a crowd, or that time he shoved the Peacekeepers' guns away from me in District 11. I don't know quite what to make of it. I also become a little fixated on his eyelashes, which ordinarily you don't notice much because they're so blond. But up close, in the sunlight slanting in from the window, they're a light golden color and so long I don't see how they keep from getting all tangled up when he blinks. ~ Suzanne Collins
Nostalgia District quotes by Suzanne Collins
'District 9' was a singular anti-Apartheid metaphor, and 'Elysium' is a more general metaphor about immigration and how the First World and Third World meet. But the thing that I like the most about the metaphor is that it can be scaled to suit almost any scenario. ~ Neill Blomkamp
Nostalgia District quotes by Neill Blomkamp
As one of my older friends says, "Nostalgia just isn't what it used to be." Let's take a stab at it, anyway. ~ Warren Buffett
Nostalgia District quotes by Warren Buffett
Who wants to live with one foot in hell just for the sake of nostalgia Our time is forever now. ~ Alice Childress
Nostalgia District quotes by Alice Childress
TV was entertainment of the last resort. There was nothing on during the day in the summer other than game shows and soap operas. Besides, a TV-watching child was considered available for chores: take out the trash, clean your room, pick up that mess, fold those towels, mow the lawn ... the list was endless. We all became adept at chore-avoidance. Staying out of sight was a reliable strategy. Drawing or painting was another: to my mother, making art trumped making beds. A third choir-avoidance technique was to read. A kid with his or her nose in a book is a kid who is not fighting, yelling, throwing, breaking things, bleeding, whining, or otherwise creating a Mom-size headache. Reading a book was almost like being invisible - a good thing for all concerned. ~ Pete Hautman
Nostalgia District quotes by Pete Hautman
Most childhoods are full of anxiety, but that tends to get smoothed over, so you have a sense of nostalgia. ~ Romesh Gunesekera
Nostalgia District quotes by Romesh Gunesekera
I support building a soccer stadium in the District of Columbia, and I support investing public dollars to get it done. ~ Muriel Bowser
Nostalgia District quotes by Muriel Bowser
A man who risks his life in shooting big game in order to secure good specimens for natural history collections, or to rid a district of a man-eater or other dangerous neighbor, is a sportsman in the true sense. ~ Robert Baden-Powell
Nostalgia District quotes by Robert Baden-Powell
