Rivers are places that renew our spirit, connect us with our past, and link us directly with the flow and rhythm of the natural world. ~ Leo Tolstoy
Natural Rhythm quotes by Leo Tolstoy
And that is the essence of wisdom - to be in harmony with nature, with the natural rhythm of the universe. And whenever you are in harmony with the natural rhythm of the universe, you are a poet, you are a painter, you are a musician, you are a dancer. ~ Osho
Natural Rhythm quotes by Osho
How to Perform Paced Breathing

Paced breathing is a slow, regular rate of deep breathing. There are three main points to keep in mind when practicing:

1.Breathe slowly. Concentrate on slowing the rate of your breathing to eight or ten breaths per minute.

2.Inhale and exhale through your nose. It is more difficult to take shallow breaths from the upper chest when you breathe through your nose. This keeps you from hyperventilating.

3.Choose a neutral word to focus on while practicing paced breathing. The words "one," "calm," and "relax" work well. Each time you exhale, say the word in your mind. This will assist in keeping your breathing evenly paced, and will help to reduce the chances of interfering thoughts.

During the day, when you are not practicing paced breathing, alternate paced and normal breathing. Every single breath you take does not have to come from the diaphragm. There should be a natural rhythm between chest breathing and diaphragm breathing. Find a comfortable balance but do more diaphragmatic breathing than you usually do.

Tony is at a local law office to interview for an internship. He wants to become a trial lawyer. He is very excited by the thought of working professionally, but is so anxious about the interview that he feels lightheaded and numb. He is afraid he won't be able to say what he wants to, and that his answers will be incorrect.
As he waits for the interviewer, Tony starts to ~ Heather Moehn
Natural Rhythm quotes by Heather Moehn
The rhythm of life is give and take. It is necessary to put things back into the system. To not do that is to foul your own nest - to use up all the natural resources greedily. ~ Frederick Lenz
Natural Rhythm quotes by Frederick Lenz
When I describe for my far-away friends the Northwest's subtle shades of weather - from gloaming skies of 'high-gray' to 'low-gray' with violet streaks like the water's delicate aura - they wonder if my brain and body have, indeed, become water-logged. Yet still, I find myself praising the solace and privacy of fine, silver drizzle, the comforting cloaks of salt, mold, moss, and fog, the secretive shelter of cedar and clouds.

Whether it's in the Florida Keys, along the rocky Maine coast, within the Gulf of Mexico's warm curves, on the brave Outer Banks; or, for those who nestle near inland seas, such as the brine-steeped Great Salk Lake or the Midwest's Great Lakes - water is alive and in relationship with those of us who are blessed with such a world-shaping, yet abiding, intimate ally.

Every day I am moved by the double life of water - her power and her humility. But most of all, I am grateful for the partnership of this great body of inland sea. Living by water, I am never alone. Just as water has sculpted soil and canyon, it also molds my own living space, and every story I tell.

…Living by water restores my sense of balance and natural rhythm - the ebb and flow of high tides and low tides, so like the rise and fall of everyday life. Wind, water, waves are not simply a backdrop to my life, they are steady companions. And that is the grace, the gift of inviting nature to live inside my home. Like a Chambered Nautilus I spin out my ~ Brenda Peterson
Natural Rhythm quotes by Brenda Peterson
Effortlessness is the ability to slow down and listen for the spaces between the joints ... Deep within all things there is a natural rhythm, a music of opening and closing, expansion and contraction. ~ Wayne Muller
Natural Rhythm quotes by Wayne Muller
The natural rhythm of human life is routine punctuated by orgies. ~ Aldous Huxley
Natural Rhythm quotes by Aldous Huxley
Treating the body is really about treating the mind. It is all psychosomatic - every bit of it. No exceptions. ~ Esther Hicks
Natural Rhythm quotes by Esther Hicks
Humanity has always conquered the flux of natural time by means of a rhythm between active and passive time-spans. To reconquer his holidays, to establish a new and better time schedule for life, has been the great endeavour of man ever since the days of Noah. ~ Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy
Natural Rhythm quotes by Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy
By attuning your breathing, you can become one with the natural rhythm of life that flows through you all the time. ~ Ilchi Lee
Natural Rhythm quotes by Ilchi Lee
Third, slow down your breath to an unhurried six per minute. Six breaths per minute is equivalent to taking a new breath every ten seconds. Five seconds for inhalation and another five for exhalation. Studies showed that this natural rhythm ~ Dr. Dorothy Adamiak ND
Natural Rhythm quotes by Dr. Dorothy Adamiak ND
I've always liked to dance - I've got a natural rhythm. ~ Tom Jones
Natural Rhythm quotes by Tom Jones
Had I to give advice to writers (and I do not think they need it, because everyone has to find out things for himself), I would tell them simply this; I would ask them to tamper as little as they can with their own work. I do not think tinkering does any good. The moment comes when one has found out what one can do - when one has found one's natural voice, one's rhythm. Then I do not think that slight emendations should prove useful. ~ Jorge Luis Borges
Natural Rhythm quotes by Jorge Luis Borges
There is a natural rhythm to the active and receptive energies within us. At times our energy is strong and outgoing - it is time to pursue our goals, take risks, get things accomplished. At other times, our energy is quiet and sensitive, and we need to take time to nurture ourselves, relax, and just 'be' for a while. As we trust and follow this rhythm, we attract everything we need and create everything we truly desire. ~ Shakti Gawain
Natural Rhythm quotes by Shakti Gawain
We trust nature to know what it is doing, but we are not nearly so kind, understanding and trusting of our own rhythms and cycles. It's ridiculous that we are so hard on ourselves. Can we not trust that the very same forces that created the rhythms and cycles of nature created our own? Of course we can. We often don't, but we can, if we remember. ~ Jeffrey R. Anderson
Natural Rhythm quotes by Jeffrey R. Anderson
Time is a social institution and not a physical reality. There is no such thing as time in the natural world - the world of stars and waters, clouds, mountains and living organisms. There is such a thing as rhythm - rhythm of tides, rhythm of biological processes ... There is rhythm and there is motion. Time is a way of measuring motion. ~ Alan Watts
Natural Rhythm quotes by Alan Watts
...there is something very vital happening when we breathe - without it we die - but trying to speed it up, force it, grasp it, push it away or control it tends to get in the way. As in breathing, so in life - we can learn a lot from the natural rhythm, pace, and un-fussiness of the way breath continues its work, without making a big deal out of it. ~ Ed Halliwell
Natural Rhythm quotes by Ed Halliwell
I love my children, but I don't really want to talk about them. I'm not that much of a freakish middle-aged mother, I'm just very lucky, and there isn't much more to say. I'd like not to be constantly expected to be a spokesman for things that are part of the natural rhythm of a woman's life. ~ Mariella Frostrup
Natural Rhythm quotes by Mariella Frostrup
Machines do things very quickly and outside the natural rhythm of life, and we are indignant if a car doesn't start at the first try. So the few things that we still do, such as cooking (though there are TV dinners!), knitting, gardening, anything at all that cannot be hurried, have a very particular value. ~ May Sarton
Natural Rhythm quotes by May Sarton
Contrology (Pilates) is complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit. Through Contrology you first purposefully acquire complete control of your own body and then through proper repetition of its exercises you gradually and progressively acquire that natural rhythm and coordination associated with all your subconscious activities. ~ Joseph Pilates
Natural Rhythm quotes by Joseph Pilates
She wanted more. More of him. More of this and them ... she wanted to see him come apart above her and know that they had done this together.
She wanted to find their own beautiful rhythm. The music swirled and rose about them, a tempting pace she was eager to match.
She smiled, and he felt her smile travel all the way to his heart, allaying his worries.
Without breaking eye contact, he began to move in and out maddeningly slowly. ~ Sylvain Reynard
Natural Rhythm quotes by Sylvain Reynard
Knowing how you like to be touched and being able to communicate that kindly to a partner is a major component of a satisfying sex life. But how do you know what makes your body sing if you haven't spent some time finding out? Solo sex (masturbation) is a natural way to understand what your particular body likes and how it likes to be aroused. ~ Elle Chase
Natural Rhythm quotes by Elle Chase
The natural sciences are sometimes said to have no concern with values, nor to seek morality and goodness, and therefore belong to an inferior order of things. Counter-claims are made that they are the only living and dynamic studies ... Both contentions are wrong. Language, Literature and Philosophy express, reflect and contemplate the world. But it is a world in which men will never be content to stay at rest, and so these disciplines cannot be cut off from the great searching into the nature of things without being deprived of life-blood. ~ Cyril Norman Hinshelwood
Natural Rhythm quotes by Cyril Norman Hinshelwood
A string of recent breath-taking discoveries has forces us to acknowledge that amazingly simple and far-reaching natural laws govern the structure and evolution of all the complex networks that surround us. ~ Albert Laszlo Barabasi
Natural Rhythm quotes by Albert Laszlo Barabasi
Despite the fact that an Indonesian island chicken has probably had a much more natural life than one raised on a battery farm in England, people who wouldn't think twice about buying something oven-ready become much more upset about a chicken that they've been on a boat with, so there is probably buried in the Western psyche a deep taboo about eating anything you've been introduced to socially. ~ Douglas Adams
Natural Rhythm quotes by Douglas Adams
Note well! Whenever you present the actual, simple truth, it is, somehow, always denounced as a lie: they disown it, cast it off, throw it on the parish; whereas the product of your own imagination, the mere figment, the sheer fiction, is adopted, petted, termed pretty, proper, sweetly natural: the little, spurious wretch gets all the comfits, - the honest, lawful bantling, all the cuffs. Such ~ Charlotte Bronte
Natural Rhythm quotes by Charlotte Bronte
Receiving and giving are opposite energies that are inextricably linked together in the natural flow of life, like inhaling and exhaling. If one aspect of that cycle doesn't function, the entire cycle ceases to function and the life force cannot move freely. If you can't inhale, you will soon have nothing to exhale, and before long, your body will be unable to continue living. ~ Shakti Gawain
Natural Rhythm quotes by Shakti Gawain
The Universe has a pulse and rhythm of its own, and it wants to carry you with it-so if you dance with Spirit, just remember to let it lead. ~ Sonia Choquette
Natural Rhythm quotes by Sonia Choquette
We discovered that education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being. ~ Maria Montessori
Natural Rhythm quotes by Maria Montessori
Besides, humans aren't prey. They are our natural enemies. They are to be avoided. ~ Cynthia Leitich Smith
Natural Rhythm quotes by Cynthia Leitich Smith
Drums were my first instrument, my first love. I need rhythm, something that moves. ~ Patrick Stump
Natural Rhythm quotes by Patrick Stump
We were both sort of bowled over by the fact that we were married. It wasn't a question of 'Have we done the right thing?' It was all perfectly natural that we should be together. But John didn't get a real chance to be first a real husband or later, a real father. Once he got on the Beatles bangwagon he couldn't get off, even if he wanted to. ~ Cynthia Lennon
Natural Rhythm quotes by Cynthia Lennon
Loving the Earth with a fierce devotion can mean that we view the damage being done to nature as attacks on our own family and kinship group. The despair and rage we feel as witnesses to terracide, animal exploitation and the everyday callous disregard for the environment can be channelled into creating awareness, resistance efforts, the earth rights movement, and by rejecting the numbing and destructive values of Empire. By opening our hearts to the Earth in our thoughts, words, actions and cultural life we will find sacred purpose in the co-creation of an earth-honoring society. Our re-enchantment with the natural world is essential for devoting ourselves to eco-activism, environmental healing, earth restoration and rewilding, and the future rests with us! ~ Pegi Eyers
Natural Rhythm quotes by Pegi Eyers
The only 'natural enemies' are those who take one's very nature as an offence. ~ Simon May
Natural Rhythm quotes by Simon May
Drink, the social glue of the human race. Probably in the beginning we could explain ourselves to our close family members with grunts, muttered syllables, gestures, slaps, and punches. Then when the neighbors started dropping in to help harvest, stomp, stir, and drink the bounty of the land, after we'd softened our natural suspicious hostility with a few stiff ones, we had to think up some more nuanced communications, like words. From there it was a short step to grammar, civil law, religion, history, and "The Whiffenpoof Song. ~ Barbara Holland
Natural Rhythm quotes by Barbara Holland
I'm fascinated by offensive subject matter. Always have been. It is very natural to me, as any teach I've ever had growing up could attest. ~ Anthony Jeselnik
Natural Rhythm quotes by Anthony Jeselnik
To appreciate the best opportunity for attack and defence, you must fully understand the rhythm of movement.

(Page 28). ~ Sadami Yamada
Natural Rhythm quotes by Sadami Yamada
We only have to dance to the rhythm of life. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Natural Rhythm quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Beauty of style and harmony and grace and good rhythm depend on simplicity ~ Plato
Natural Rhythm quotes by Plato
If 22 bushels (1,300 pounds) of rice and 22 bushels of winter grain are harvested from a quarter acre field, then the field will support five to ten people each investing an average of less than one hour of labour per day. But if the field were turned over to pasturage, or if the grain were fed to cattle, only one person could be supported per quarter acre. Meat becomes a luxury food when its production requires land which could provide food directly for human consumption. This has been shown clearly and definitely. Each person should ponder seriously how much hardship he is causing by indulging in food so expensively produced. ~ Masanobu Fukuoka
Natural Rhythm quotes by Masanobu Fukuoka
But the macro-economy is not the Whole. It too is a Part, a part of the larger natural economy, the ecosphere, and its growth does inflict opportunity costs on the finite Whole that must be counted. ~ Herman E. Daly
Natural Rhythm quotes by Herman E. Daly
Sitting in an office for TOO long is not natural, perhaps, so that's why we should change it. I didn't say that out-and-out capitalism, which reduces humanity to dollar figures, is natural. ~ Yann Martel
Natural Rhythm quotes by Yann Martel
It began with a perfect plan. Shape-wise we had a circle, a simple uncomplicated curve to guide us comfortably from one thing to another, an easy predictable ride promising a natural progression from A to B, C and D, and so on until we reached our destination. But somewhere down that smooth line, I think around F, it all went pear-shaped. ~ Ivana Hruba
Natural Rhythm quotes by Ivana Hruba
Wild roses are fairest, and nature a better gardener than art. ~ Louisa May Alcott
Natural Rhythm quotes by Louisa May Alcott
The only way in which Darwin's data made sense was to suppose that species battled for survival, and that evolution came when one slight adaptation of a species proved more successful than another in the battle: a process which he named 'natural selection'. There was nothing benevolent about the providence which watched over the process. Reason was served her notice as the handmaid of Christian revelation. ~ Diarmaid MacCulloch
Natural Rhythm quotes by Diarmaid MacCulloch
I realized there really is a natural interplay between my spirituality and my creativity. When I enter into a spirit of prayer, I can cultivate a receptive space and actually ask God for creative ideas that will enhance my my praying. Then these creative practices allow me to enter into the spiritual space even more quickly and deeply. The result is a spiraling effect leading to ever-expanding dimensions, encompassing both deeper spirituality and heightened creativity. ~ David Brazzeal
Natural Rhythm quotes by David Brazzeal
He wants my knees to bend to the bells. I hope there's rhythm in Hell. ~ Casey Renee Kiser
Natural Rhythm quotes by Casey Renee Kiser
I seem to have a natural tendency to want to share my own observations and feelings with other people, and writing seems to be the way I'm best equipped to do that. ~ Jerry Spinelli
Natural Rhythm quotes by Jerry Spinelli
Of the contributions made during the essayist period three call for notice: Weismann deserves mention for his useful work in asking for the proof that "acquired characters" or, to speak more precisely, parental experience can really be transmitted to the offspring. The ocurrence of progressive adaptation by transmission of effects of use had seemed so natural to Darwin and his contemporaries that no proof of the physiological reality of the henomenon was thought necessary. Weismann's challenge revealed the utter inadequacy of the evidence on which the beliefs were based. They are doubtless isolated observations which may be interpreted as favouring the belief in these transmissions, but such meagre indications as exist are by general consent admitted to be too slight to be of much assistance in the attempt to understand how the more complex adaptive mechanisms arose. ~ William Bateson
Natural Rhythm quotes by William Bateson
Affection is responsible for nine-tenths of whatever solid and durable happiness there is in our natural lives. ~ C.S. Lewis
Natural Rhythm quotes by C.S. Lewis
How, given the canine teeth and close-set eyes that declare the human animal to be a predator, had we come up with the notion that oat bran is more natural to eat than chicken? ~ Valerie Martin
Natural Rhythm quotes by Valerie Martin
My smile wavers as I revert to my natural state of being: nervous and weird. ~ Stephanie Perkins
Natural Rhythm quotes by Stephanie Perkins
However good an English team is, they will always have an additional advantage. It is that European players know that their English opponents will come at them in the belief they will win, and they can always be guaranteed never to stop fighting. They have a natural aggression that they are born with. If it ever goes, English football will lose its most valuable dimension. ~ Johan Cruijff
Natural Rhythm quotes by Johan Cruijff
The consciousness of being at war, and therefore in danger, makes the handing-over of all power to a small caste seem the natural, unavoidable condition of survival. ~ George Orwell
Natural Rhythm quotes by George Orwell
The Yamato spirit is not a tame, tender plant, but a wild--in the sense of natural--growth; it is indigenous to the soil; its accidental qualities it may share with the flowers of other lands, but in its essence it remains the original, spontaneous outgrowth of our clime. But its nativity is not its sole claim to our affection. The refinement and grace of its beauty appeal to our aesthetic sense as no other flower can. We cannot share the admiration of the Europeans for their roses, which lack the simplicity of our flower. Then, too, the thorns that are hidden beneath the sweetness of the rose, the tenacity with which she clings to life, as though loth or afraid to die rather than drop untimely, preferring to rot on her stem; her showy colours and heavy odours--all these are traits so unlike our flower, which carries no dagger or poison under its beauty, which is ever ready to depart life at the call of nature, whose colours are never gorgeous, and whose light fragrance never palls. Beauty of colour and of form is limited in its showing; it is a fixed quality of existence, whereas fragrance is volatile, ethereal as the breathing of life. So in all religious ceremonies frankincense and myrrh play a prominent part. There is something spirituelle in redolence. When the delicious perfume of the sakura quickens the morning air, as the sun in its course rises to illumine first the isles of the Far East, few sensations are more serenely exhilarating than to inhale, as it were, the v ~ Inazo Nitobe
Natural Rhythm quotes by Inazo Nitobe
Natural history is not about producing fables. ~ David Attenborough
Natural Rhythm quotes by David Attenborough
Literary history and the present are dark with silences ... I have had special need to learn all I could of this over the years, myself so nearly remaining mute and having to let writing die over and over again in me. These are not natural silences
what Keats called agonie ennuyeuse (the tedious agony)
that necessary time for renewal, lying fallow, gestation, in the natural cycle of creation. The silences I speak of here are unnatural: the unnatural thwarting of what struggles to come into being, but cannot. ~ Tillie Olsen
Natural Rhythm quotes by Tillie Olsen
He didn't think of the rot as a disease. His mind was sharp, but he'd been swallowed by lies that had long ago persuaded him that this was the way all good men should look and move and feel. Pain was natural. The smell of rotting flesh was more a scent of wholesome humanity than a stench. ~ Ted Dekker
Natural Rhythm quotes by Ted Dekker
The weather was turning cold and I remember that Dante was using nothing but natural light as his electric department was away, prepping the scene in the cave. We stayed on that rock for the whole day. ~ Madeleine Stowe
Natural Rhythm quotes by Madeleine Stowe
I don't care about periods or commas or misspellings at this time, even though this is English class. What I want to do is to get you so excited about reading and writing that the love of learning will be with you for the rest of your lives. I don't want to hinder your natural joy of wanting to venture into a world of books and writing and wanting to learn. ~ Victor Villasenor
Natural Rhythm quotes by Victor Villasenor
Do not fear death, but welcome it, since it too comes from nature. For just as we are young and grow old, and flourish and reach maturity, have teeth and a beard and grey hairs, conceive, become pregnant, and bring forth new life, and all the other natural processes that follow the seasons of our existence, so also do we have death. A thoughtful person will never take death lightly, impatiently, or scornfully, but will wait for it as one of life's natural processes. ~ Marcus Aurelius
Natural Rhythm quotes by Marcus Aurelius
I'm learning a lot about how to be one of the 'good' actors. You'd hope that it's natural to be a good person, and kind, but I'm learning how to deal with long, sometimes boring days. ~ Lily James
Natural Rhythm quotes by Lily James
When water is still, it is like a mirror, reflecting the beard and the eyebrows. It gives the accuracy of the water-level, and the philosopher makes it his model. And if water thus derives lucidity from stillness, how much more the faculties of the mind? The mind of the Sage being in repose becomes the mirror of the universe, the speculum of all creation.22 [59a] The fluidity of water is not the result of any effort on the part of the water, but is its natural property. And the virtue of the perfect man is such that even without cultivation there is nothing which can withdraw from his sway. Heaven is naturally high, the earth is naturally solid, the sun and moon are naturally bright. Do they cultivate these attributes?23 [63b] ~ Alan W. Watts
Natural Rhythm quotes by Alan W. Watts
Gender provides a revealing entrance into the world's religious traditions. How gender is viewed reflects itself not simply in the moral practices of those traditions, but in their metaphysics. Gender shapes their worldview and ethos. In Taoism, for example, ultimate reality is feminine, and what is seen as truly powerful is what adapts and adjusts. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam privilege the masculine. For these religions, what counts for ultimately is the power to control and command. Religions are gendered entities, although often presenting themselves as something simply natural or God-ordained, and therefore objective and universal. Viewing the various religions through the lens of gender, opens up a hidden landscape. It reveals what is usually veiled, puts voices into officially sanctioned silences, and makes more complex what we see and hear and learn from the past. It enriches our grasp upon the heritage of the sacred. ~ John C. Raines
