Actors endow the villain in fiction with a warmth and quality that makes them memorable. I think we like fictional villains because they're the Mr. Hyde of our own dreams. I've met a few real villains in my time, and they weren't the least bit sympathetic. ~ John Rhys-Davies
Mr Hyde quotes by John Rhys-Davies
There's a Mr. Hyde for every happy Jekyll face, a dark face on the other side of the mirror. ~ Stephen King
Mr Hyde quotes by Stephen King
If he be Mr. Hyde" he had thought, "I shall be Mr. Seek. ~ Robert Louis Stevenson
Mr Hyde quotes by Robert Louis Stevenson
I feel as though whenever I create something, my Mr. Hyde wakes up in the middle of the night and starts thrashing it. I sometimes love it the next morning, but other times it is an abomination. ~ Criss Jami
Mr Hyde quotes by Criss Jami
It is Nixon himself who represents that dark, venal and incurably violent side of the American character that almost every country in the world has learned to fear and despise. Our Barbie-doll president, with his Barbie-doll wife and his boxful of Barbie-doll children is also America's answer to the monstrous Mr. Hyde. He speaks for the Werewolf in us; the bully, the predatory shyster who turns into something unspeakable, full of claws and bleeding string-warts on nights when the moon comes too close ... ~ Hunter S. Thompson
Mr Hyde quotes by Hunter S. Thompson
I'm sayng people can be real creative when it comes to ducking resposibility"
Mr Fox, talking about Mr Jeckyl & Mr Hyde ~ Matt Ruff
Mr Hyde quotes by Matt Ruff
The moment I choose, I can be rid of Mr. Hyde ~ Robert Louis Stevenson
Mr Hyde quotes by Robert Louis Stevenson
At Universal Studios, Marston had a hand in films like Show Boat, in 1929. He also helped get films past the censors, including All Quiet on the Western Front, in 1930. When Carl Laemmle's son, Junior Laemmle, took over Universal, he turned it into a specialty shop for horror films: Marston's theory of emotions lies behind the particular brand of psychological terror in Laemmle's Frankenstein (1931), Dracula (1931), and The Invisible Man (1933). Before Marston left Hollywood, he also worked for Paramount. For Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931), he tested audience reaction by strapping viewers to blood pressure cuffs while they watched the rushes.30 ~ Jill Lepore
Mr Hyde quotes by Jill Lepore
If he be Mr. Hyde," he had thought, "Then I shall be Mr. Seek. ~ Robert Louis Stevenson
Mr Hyde quotes by Robert Louis Stevenson
I think all human beings are at least a little bit Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde, and many of us are downright quadrophenic. ~ Dave Smalley
Mr Hyde quotes by Dave Smalley
My mother was a reader, and she read to us. She read us Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde when I was six and my brother was eight; I never forgot it. ~ Stephen King
Mr Hyde quotes by Stephen King
Bridget is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Two sides of herself, always arguing. She is tired of the fight, the constant struggle between a muddied version of good and evil, where right feels wrong and wrong feels really good. ~ Siobhan Vivian
Mr Hyde quotes by Siobhan Vivian
On the stage Tristen bent over the piano, his fingers swift and sure, his blond hair gleaming under the spotlight. I glanced around at the audience, watching their faces, gratified that they were as captivated as I was by the dark, thunderous song that Tristen conjured. ~ Beth Fantaskey
Mr Hyde quotes by Beth Fantaskey
The beast caged. Rather limiting for Mr Hyde. ~ Gordon Merrick
Mr Hyde quotes by Gordon Merrick
Between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Between the Jacob I like and the one who annoys the hell out of me. ~ Stephenie Meyer
Mr Hyde quotes by Stephenie Meyer
Mr. Hyde was pale and dwarfish, he gave an impression of deformity without any nameable malformation, he had a displeasing smile, he had borne himself to the lawyer with a sort of murderous mixture of timidity and boldness, and he spoke with a husky, whispering and somewhat broken voice; all these were points against him, but not all of these together could explain the hitherto unknown disgust, loathing and fear with which Mr. Utterson regarded him. ~ Robert Louis Stevenson
Mr Hyde quotes by Robert Louis Stevenson
Sanity:
You can go through your whole life telling yourself that life is logical, life is prosaic, life is sane. Above all, sane. And I think it is. I've had a lot of time to think about that ...
I think; therefore I am. There are hairs on my face; therefore I shave. My wife and child have been critically injured in a car crash; therefore I pray. It's all logical, it's all sane.
... there's a Mr. Hyde for every happy Jekyll face, a dark face on the other side of the mirror ... You turn the mirror sideways and see your face reflected with a sinister left-hand twist, half mad and half sane.
... No one looks at that side unless they have to, and I can understand that.
... I'm the sane one. ~ Richard Bachman
Mr Hyde quotes by Richard Bachman
You can't tell someone to pursue their dream only if it's a good match for your own. You can't dictate what dream he should pursue. ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
Holding his own in this difficult environment. That perhaps he was learning he was not as tough as he'd previously thought. And that the situation was making him sullen. But Nat didn't seem to care to discuss the matter. And Nathan remained unwilling to pry. ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
Home Economics & Civics
What ever happened to the two courses that were cornerstone programs of public education? For one, convenience foods made learning how to cook seem irrelevant. Home Economics was also gender driven and seemed to stratify women, even though most well paid chefs are men. Also, being considered a dead-end high school program, in a world that promotes continuing education, it has waned in popularity. With both partners in a marriage working, out of necessity or choice, career-minded couples would rather go to a restaurant or simply micro-burn a frozen pre-prepared food packet. Almost anybody that enjoys the preparation of food can make a career of it by going to a specialty school such as the Culinary Institute of America along the Hudson River in Hyde Park, New York. Also, many colleges now have programs that are directed to those that are interested in cooking as a career. However, what about those that are looking to other career paths but still have a need to effectively run a household? Who among us is still concerned with this mundane but necessary avocation that so many of us are involved with? Public Schools should be aware that the basic requirements to being successful in life include how to balance and budget a checking and a savings account. We should all be able to prepare a wholesome, nutritious and delicious meal, make a bed and clean up behind one's self, not to mention taking care of children that may become a part of the family ~ Hank Bracker
Mr Hyde quotes by Hank Bracker
You've got a lifetime to mull over the Buddhist understanding of interconnectedness." He spoke every sentence as if he'd written it down, memorized it, and was now reciting it. "But while you were looking out the window, you missed the chance to explore the equally interesting Buddhist belief in being present for every facet of your daily life, of being truly present. Be present in this class. And then, when it's over, be present out there," he said, nodding toward the lake and beyond.'
~Dr. Hyde, pg 50 ~ John Green
Mr Hyde quotes by John Green
It's really hard to know what's a good idea when you're growing and these ideas don't hold still and neither do you. ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
The caviar was very high quality. I made an acting decision on the spot that Ismay was a big eater. ~ Jonathan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Jonathan Hyde
The value of your life is your own choosing, Nathan ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
From Kelsey, I have learned among many other things the value of turning on a dime and how you can have an extremely funny and extremely poignant moment with absolutely no separation in between ... and sometimes in the same moment. ~ David Hyde Pierce
Mr Hyde quotes by David Hyde Pierce
He's my dad. I love him. It's not that I don't love him. I really do. And I know I need to stick with him and try to help him. And I'd miss him. I know I would. I'd miss him and I'd miss home. I don't even really know why I said that. Well . . . yeah, I sort of do. It's just different with August. Not like he's perfect. But like you know what's going to happen next, and it makes sense. And even when it doesn't work like that, I can just say so to him . . . and then we talk about it and then things make sense again. I talk to my dad all the time but nothing ever changes. It's like everything I say just sort of bounces off him. But when August and I talk, stuff actually gets worked out. And it's such a relief. ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
Of all the sights and sounds which attracted me on my first arrival to live in London in the mid-thirties, one combined operation left a lingering, individual spell. I naturally went to Hyde Park to hear the orators, the best of the many free entertainments on offer in the capital. I heard the purest milk of the world flowing, then as now, from the platform of the Socialist Party of Great Britain. ~ Michael Foot
Mr Hyde quotes by Michael Foot
Everything grows best in oxygen and sunlight except secrets and guilt and regrets. They ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
It is remarkable that a fist-gnawingly dire England performance still has the power to shock, when in some ways this one had all the exquisite unpredictability of Norman Wisdom approaching a banana skin in the immediate vicinity of a swimming pool...
The England shirt is the precise opposite of a superhero costume, turning men with extraordinary abilities into mild-mannered guys next door. Were Stephen Fry to pull it on, he would struggle to string a sentence together. Were Lucian Freud to slip it over his head he would turn his easel round to reveal a childlike scribble of a cat. ~ Marina Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Marina Hyde
Art does not organize parties, nor is it the servant or colleague of power. Rather, the work of art becomes a political force simply through the faithful representation of the spirit. It is a political act to create an image of the self or of the collective. ~ Lewis Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Lewis Hyde
We are going to follow wherever the facts lead us. ~ Henry Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Henry Hyde
these are now commonly available through specialist gaming shops and online. There can be no logical objection to their use, and indeed many sets of wargames rules, and particularly role-playing games, prescribe their use in a variety of circumstances. ~ Henry Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Henry Hyde
I try to think of a way to get there without going past it. There are lots of ways, but they all have me walking a little farther. And that's stupid, I decide. What am I, a little kid? I can stand to see something it hurts to want. I can see it and then just keep walking. It happens to lots of people everyday. We all survive. ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
I decided that not talking is like a litmus test for a real friend. You can just sit there and be. Not always be filling up the air with words ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
This isn't a duality. I'm not one of the Balfour Academy soldiers, drinking a potion to become virile, ugly, and monstrously strong. There isn't a lever inside me that determines which of me you're talking to at once. A knife can cut or stab. The label doesn't change. It's still a knife. ~ Wildbow
Mr Hyde quotes by Wildbow
See now why I hate to go outside so much?" "Yeah. I guess I do. But you gotta do it anyway, right? I mean, it's life. You gotta do life. Right?" "Not really," Billy said. "You don't have to. Lots of people don't do life any more. They just stop at some point. And once you stop, it's really hard to get started again. But then, once you get started again, it's kind of hard to stop. ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
But neither money nor machines can create. They shuttle tokens of energy, but they do not transform. A civilization based on them puts people out of touch with their creative powers. ~ Lewis Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Lewis Hyde
An essential portion of any artist's labor is not creation so much as invocation. Part of the work cannot be made, it must be received; and we cannot have this gift except, perhaps, by supplication, by courting, by creating within ourselves that 'begging bowl' to which the gift is drawn. ~ Lewis Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Lewis Hyde
Because if you take something you're a thief.' She nursed the silence a moment. Downed the balance of her drink and silently signaled for another. 'Sounds simple, but you'd be amazed how many people don't get it. They steal but they call themselves honest. They cheat on their spouses and lovers but they think they're good people. They lie but they'd never call themselves liars. Well, let me tell you something, Todd ... She pointed toward him with her right hand, with her lit cigarette. He leaned away slightly. She looked into the mirror of his eyes and saw herself going too far. 'You are what you do. That's what I'm trying to tell you. What we do defines us. However we behave, conduct our lives ... that's real. The rest is just a story for publication. ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
I know but one word ...Obedience! I know how a soldier will obey an order...even to death. I cannot expect to look JESUS CHRIST in the face and obey HIM less than a soldier his commander. ~ John Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by John Hyde
Feelings are a funny thing, he realized. They're always more tangled and contradictory and complex than we want them to be. Than we care to admit. ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
If you want to see a man come to his senses, try something like, Do you happen to carry a rubber in your wallet? Did I mention I'm not on the pill? ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
As authors, we all have to learn not to be reactive to public statements about our books. It's really not our business what each reader thinks of them. ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
Angry and choleric men are as ungrateful and unsociable as thunder and lightning, being in themselves all storm and tempest; but quiet and easy natures are like fair weather, welcome to all. ~ Edward Hyde, 1st Earl Of Clarendon
Mr Hyde quotes by Edward Hyde, 1st Earl Of Clarendon
If you kick it, they shall come. ~ Sam Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Sam Hyde
There is great satisfaction in a well-made clean tool that does its work well. ~ Liberty Hyde Bailey
Mr Hyde quotes by Liberty Hyde Bailey
My threshold for human contact had worn painfully thin. I felt like a car that had been running its lights too long on battery alone. I felt fresh out of charge, and as though I needed to plug in for days before I could have one more conversation with one more human being. ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Mr Hyde quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
