Blindly trusting financial experts is like trusting your chickens to Mr. Fox. ~ Robert Rolih
Mr Fox quotes by Robert Rolih
I love sleeping. Waking is more and more hateful the older I get. I say this as if I've lived too long. I'm twenty-two. ~ Helen Oyeyemi
Mr Fox quotes by Helen Oyeyemi
His [Pitt's] successor as prime minister was Mr. Addington, who was a friend of Mr. Pitt, just as Mr. Pitt was a friend of Mr. Addington; but their respective friends were each other's enemies. Mr. Fox, who was Mr. Pitt's enemy (although many of his friends were Mr. Pitt's friends), had always stood uncompromisingly for peace with France and held dangerously liberal opinions; nevertheless, in 1804, Mr. Fox and Mr. Pitt got together to overthrow Mr. Pitt's friend Mr. Addington, who was pushing the war effort with insufficient vigor. ~ J. Christopher Herold
Mr Fox quotes by J. Christopher Herold
This is not the "relativism of truth" presented by journalistic takes on postmodernism. Rather, the ironist's cage is a state of irony by way of powerlessness and inactivity: In a world where terrorism makes cultural relativism harder and harder to defend against its critics, marauding international corporations follow fair-trade practices, increasing right-wing demagoguery and violence can't be answered in kind, and the first black U.S. president turns out to lean right of center, the intelligentsia can see no clear path of action. Irony dominates as a "mockery of the promise and fitness of things," to return to the OED definition of irony.

This thinking is appropriate to Wes Anderson, whose central characters are so deeply locked in ironist cages that his films become two-hour documents of them rattling their ironist bars. Without the irony dilemma Roth describes, we would find it hard to explain figures like Max Fischer, Steve Zissou, Royal Tenenbaum, Mr. Fox, and Peter Whitman. I'm not speaking here of specific political beliefs. The characters in question aren't liberals; they may in fact, along with Anderson himself, have no particular political or philosophical interests. But they are certainly involved in a frustrated and digressive kind of irony that suggests a certain political situation. Though intensely self-absorbed and central to their films, Anderson's protagonists are neither heroes nor antiheroes. These characters are not lovable eccentrics. They a ~ Arved Mark Ashby
Mr Fox quotes by Arved Mark Ashby
My mother exaggerates as often as she can. I'm sure she would like nothing more than to be part of a Greek tragedy. She wouldn't even want a large part, she'd be perfectly content with a chorus role, warning that fate is coming to make havoc of all things. ~ Helen Oyeyemi
Mr Fox quotes by Helen Oyeyemi
I'm sayng people can be real creative when it comes to ducking resposibility"
Mr Fox, talking about Mr Jeckyl & Mr Hyde ~ Matt Ruff
Mr Fox quotes by Matt Ruff
She doesn't want to see anyone. She's happy like that, I think. Always relieved at the end of a visit. ~ Helen Oyeyemi
Mr Fox quotes by Helen Oyeyemi
His eyes were very bright; they'd been like that since he'd begun talking about his subject. He looked like someone in love. Well, in love the way people were in old movies. ~ Helen Oyeyemi
Mr Fox quotes by Helen Oyeyemi
I think I started writing about identity, and I used to believe that identity is the story. But now I'm not so much subscribed to that. I mean, with 'Mr. Fox,' it has a feminist agenda as well. And so, as I sort of been away from writing about identity, I still feel that kind of tug of roots and, you know, cultural background. ~ Helen Oyeyemi
Mr Fox quotes by Helen Oyeyemi
I often think it would be such a luxury to go mad, and not have to worry about anything. [ ... ] There would be some sort of doctor there to tell me: "Don't worry, Mary, it's just that you're mad. Now be quiet and take this pill." And I would think, So that's all is is, and I would be glad. But aloud I would say, "What? I'm perfectly sane! You're mad ... " Only mildly, though; just for show, really. ~ Helen Oyeyemi
Mr Fox quotes by Helen Oyeyemi
You shouldn't keep the phone numbers of rapscallions who robbed you and left you for dead at bus stops, or stood you up on Valentine's Day at age eight, even if they looked like Finn from Star Wars and dressed like the Fantastic Mr. Fox and smelled like heady cologne. ~ Krystal Sutherland
Mr Fox quotes by Krystal Sutherland
I therefore invite you all, Mr Fox went on, 'to stay here with me for ever.'
For ever!' they cried. 'My goodness! How marvellous!' And Rabbit said to Mrs Rabbit, 'My dear, just think! We're never going to be shot again in our lives!'
We will make,' said Mr Fox, 'a little underground village, with streets and houses on each side - seperate houses for Badgers and Moles and Rabbits and Weasels and Foxes. And every day I will go shopping for you all. And every day we will eat like kings.'
The cheering that followed this speech went on for many minutes. ~ Roald Dahl
Mr Fox quotes by Roald Dahl
While waiting for her to phone me at school I'd feel seconds bursting inside me and leaving clouds. That won't come again - it can't. I'll never have that with anyone else. I'll never even come close. ~ Helen Oyeyemi
Mr Fox quotes by Helen Oyeyemi
Hers were gloriously improbable tales, stuffed with happy coincidences, eternal devotion, and the unwavering recognition of inner beauty. ~ Helen Oyeyemi
Mr Fox quotes by Helen Oyeyemi
I was so jealous it burned, and I knew I had to let it alone or I'd break something inside me. ~ Helen Oyeyemi
Mr Fox quotes by Helen Oyeyemi
They say all foxes are slightly allergic to linoleum, but it's cool to the paw, try it. They say my tail needs to be dry cleaned twice a month, but now it's fully detachable, see? They say our tree may never grow back, but one day, something will. Yes, these crackles are made of synthetic goose and these giblets come from artificial squab and even these apples look fake - but at least they've got stars on them. I guess my point is, we'll eat tonight, and we'll eat together. And even in this not particularly flattering light, you are without a doubt the five and a half most wonderful wild animals I've ever met in my life. ~ Wes Anderson
Mr Fox quotes by Wes Anderson
Badger: The cuss you are.
Mr. Fox: The cuss am I? Are you cussing with me? ~ Roald Dahl
Mr Fox quotes by Roald Dahl
There are a number of good books that draw upon fox legends -- foremost among them, Kij Johnson's exquisite novel The Fox Woman. I also recommend Neil Gaiman's The Dream Hunters (with the Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano); Larissa Lai's unusual novel, When Fox Is a Thousand; Helen Oyeyemi's recent novel, Mr. Fox; and Ellen Steiber's gorgeous urban fantasy novel, A Rumor of Gems, as well as her heart-breaking novella "The Fox Wife" (published in Ruby Slippers, Golden Tears). For younger readers, try the "Legend of Little Fur" series by Isobelle Carmody. You can also support a fine mythic writer by subscribing to Sylvia Linsteadt's The Gray Fox Epistles: Wild Tales By Mail.

For the fox in myth, legend, and lore, try: Fox by Martin Wallen; Reynard the Fox, edited by Kenneth Varty; Kitsune: Japan's Fox of Mystery, Romance, and Humour by Kiyoshi Nozaki;Alien Kind: Foxes and Late Imperial Chinese Narrative by Raina Huntington; The Discourse on Foxes and Ghosts: Ji Yun and Eighteenth-Century Literati Storytelling by Leo Tak-hung Chan; and The Fox and the Jewel: Shared and Private Meanings in Contemporary Japanese Inari Worship, by Karen Smythers. ~ Terri Windling
Mr Fox quotes by Terri Windling
Your purse is bulging, Mr. Fox. Tuck it away before you board. ~ Meljean Brook
Mr Fox quotes by Meljean Brook
Love. I'm not capable of it, can't even approach it from the side, let alone head-on. Nor am I alone in this - everyone is like this, the liars. Singing songs and painting pictures and telling each other stories about love and its mysteries and marvelous properties, myths to keep morale up - maybe one day it'll materialize. But I can say it ten times a day, a hundred times, 'I love you,' to anyone and anything, to a woman, to a pair of pruning shears. I've said it without meaning it at all, taken love's name in vain and gone dismally unpunished. Love will never be real, or if it is, it has no power. No power. There's only covetousness, and if what we covet can't be won with gentle words - and often it can't - then there is force. ~ Helen Oyeyemi
Mr Fox quotes by Helen Oyeyemi
A painter's eye will often be arrested where ordinary people see nothing remarkable. A casual gleam of sunshine, or a shadow thrown across his path, a time-withered oak, or a moss-covered stone may awaken a train of thoughts and feelings, and picturesque imagings. ~ Fox Talbot
Mr Fox quotes by Fox Talbot
I find as long as I acknowledge the truth of something, then that's it. I know what it is and then I can operate. But if I overestimate the downside of something or the challenge of something and I get too obsessed about the difficulty of it, then I don't leave enough room to be open to the upside, the possibility. ~ Michael J. Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Michael J. Fox
We have to start processing what we're really made of in America. American character is not dead. American integrity and honesty are not dead. When we're backed up against the wall against the largest corporations in the history of corporations, it's there. ~ Josh Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Josh Fox
In the dewy wood tinselled with bewildering moonlight, the bumbling, tumbling babies of the fairy creche trip over the hem of her dress, which is no more nor less than the margin of the wood itself; they stumble in the tangled grass as they play with the coneys, the quick brown fox-cubs, the russet fieldmice and the wee scraps of grey voles, blind velvet Mole and striped Brock with his questing snout - all the denizens of the woodland are her embroiderings, and the birds flutter round her head, settle on her shoulders and make their nests in her great abundance of disordered hair, in which are plaited poppies and ears of wheat. ~ Angela Carter
Mr Fox quotes by Angela Carter
I'll starve to death before I'll cook for myself. ~ Megan Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Megan Fox
And what is the Republican solution to these outrageous [racial] inequalities? There isn't one. And that's the point. Denying racism is the new racism. To not acknowledge those statistics, to think of that as a 'black problem' and not an American problem. To believe, as a majority of FOX viewers do, that reverse-racism is a bigger problem than racism, that's racist, ~ Bill Maher
Mr Fox quotes by Bill Maher
Whatever you think rightly concerning will go well. Whatever you think wrongly concerning, will go ill. ~ Emmet Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Emmet Fox
Don't let loneliness
drive you back into
the arms of someone
who doesn't give a
damn about you. ~ Megan Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Megan Fox
I don't think Fox News or Rush Limbaugh need Clinton it turns out. I think there's a hunger out there for - whether it's on the left or right - a more lively and provocative type of political journalism. I think Salon and Fox on the other side have both benefited from that. ~ David Talbot
Mr Fox quotes by David Talbot
I've come to the realization that if I don't feel like sharing, then I'm just not going to share. But I'm not going to go out of my way to mislead people or keep them at a distance, because that doesn't really get me anywhere either. ~ Megan Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Megan Fox
If you don't work on yourself, then much of your politics is merely projections. We have to walk our talk and do the inner work that allows the outer work to be authentic and also effective. ~ Matthew Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Matthew Fox
If you've given a dollar, you are part of the Marathon of Hope . ~ Terry Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Terry Fox
It is not unprofessional to give free legal advice, but advertising that the first visit will be free is a bit like a fox telling chickens he will not bite them until they cross the threshold of the hen house. ~ Warren E. Burger
Mr Fox quotes by Warren E. Burger
Fox Corner - that's what we should call the house. No one else has a house with that name and shouldn't that be the point?'
'Really?' Hugh said doubtfully. 'It's a little whimsical, isn't it? It sounds like a children's story. The House at Fox Corner.'
'A little whimsy never hurt anyone.'
'Strictly speaking, though,' Hugh said, 'can a house be a corner? Isn't it at one?'
So this is marriage, Sylvie thought. ~ Kate Atkinson
Mr Fox quotes by Kate Atkinson
At Linfox we have zero tolerance. If any alcohol or drugs are found in any drivers' blood, they are instantly dismissed. ~ Lindsay Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Lindsay Fox
Pay attention to what's happening around you. Read the book before you see the movie. Remember, though you, alone, are responsible for your own happiness, its still okay to feel responsible for someone else's. Live and to learn. ~ Michael J. Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Michael J. Fox
If you have one foot in yesterday and one foot in tomorrow, you're pissing all over today. ~ Michael J. Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Michael J. Fox
When Gabriel was about Ivo's age," the duchess remarked almost dreamily, staring out at the plum-colored sky, "he found a pair of orphaned fox cubs in the woods, at a country manor we'd leased in Hampshire. Has he told you about that?"
Pandora shook her head, her eyes wide.
A reminiscent smile curved the duchess's full lips. "It was a pair of females, with big ears, and eyes like shiny black buttons. They made chirping sounds, like small birds. Their mother had been killed in a poacher's trap, so Gabriel wrapped the poor th-things in his coat and brought them home. They were too young to survive on their own. Naturally, he begged to be allowed to keep them. His father agreed to let him raise them under the gamekeeper's supervision, until they were old enough to return the f-forest. Gabriel spent weeks spoon-feeding them with a mixture of meat paste and milk. Later on, he taught them to stalk and catch prey in an outside pen."
"How?" Pandora asked, fascinated.
The older woman glanced at her with an unexpectedly mischievous grin. "He dragged dead mice through their pen on a string."
"That's horrid," Pandora exclaimed, laughing.
"It was," the duchess agreed with a chuckle. "Gabriel pretended not to mind, of course, but it was qu-quite disgusting. Still, the cubs had to learn." The duchess paused before continuing more thoughtfully. "I think for Gabriel, the most difficult part of raising them was having to keep his distance, no matter how he loved t ~ Lisa Kleypas
Mr Fox quotes by Lisa Kleypas
What acquaintance have the people at large with the arena of political rectitude, with the connections of kingdoms, the resources of national strength, the abilities of ministers, or even with their own dispositions? ... I pay no regard whatever to the voice of the people: it is their duty to do what is proper, without considering what may be agreeable. ~ Charles James Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Charles James Fox
Even the English, who understand it, are not exactly riotously amused by the understatement. At best, a well-timed, well-turned understatement only raises a slight smirk. ~ Kate Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Kate Fox
Norm MacDonald is here - one of the funniest people ever. Norm's got a giant gambling problem. He's dropped more coin in a casino than Michael J. Fox at a parking meter. ~ Greg Giraldo
Mr Fox quotes by Greg Giraldo
I'm not on Twitter. I feel like it has a purpose because there are fans around the world that want to have some sort of interaction with you. But I feel like it is important to still keep some space and some distance, which is why I don't have a Twitter. ~ Megan Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Megan Fox
The 'Rescue Me' gig was a unique opportunity to play a character - a misanthropic, angry guy - who was so contrary to how people think of me. ~ Michael J. Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Michael J. Fox
Any thing that proves that it is not in the power of Kings and Princes by their great armies to have every thing their own way is of such good example that without any good will to the French one can not help being delighted by it, and you know I have a natural partiality to what some people call rebels. ~ Charles James Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Charles James Fox
But at some point in her passage, the trees began to change. They stretched taller, and the soft, pale bark darkened, roughened. She put her hand to a tree and touched the lichen growing dark green upon brown, and it felt like old cork, dry and crumbling. Here the sun mellowed, took on the cast of late afternoon, and the shadows seemed to fall a bit longer; the forest had sunk into a deeper silence, magnifying what sounds did arise. The sudden, quick crash of a fox bounding through the brush was as loud as the slam of a great wooden door. ~ Malinda Lo
Mr Fox quotes by Malinda Lo
I should add, however, that, particularly on the occasion of Samhain, bonfires were lit with the express intention of scaring away the demonic forces of winter, and we know that, at Bealltainn in Scotland, offerings of baked custard were made within the last hundred and seventy years to the eponymous spirits of wild animals which were particularly prone to prey upon the flocks - the eagle, the crow, and the fox, among others. Indeed, at these seasons all supernatural beings were held in peculiar dread. It seems by no means improbable that these circumstances reveal conditions arising out of a later solar pagan worship in respect of which the cult of fairy was relatively greatly more ancient, and perhaps held to be somewhat inimical. ~ Lewis Spence
Mr Fox quotes by Lewis Spence
I felt it was vital to stress the importance of national security in this debate and the need for a clear path to our exit from the European Union. I hope I have achieved both these objectives. ~ Liam Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Liam Fox
That's right, baby. Scratch me up. Make your mark. I wanna look at my body later and know who I belong to. ~ Kate Meader
Mr Fox quotes by Kate Meader
I've come to expect the jabs at Fox News - because, being a liberal, I get more than most. ~ Susan Estrich
Mr Fox quotes by Susan Estrich
The coming battle was waiting like a fox in the shadows. ~ Erin Hunter
Mr Fox quotes by Erin Hunter
With that first touch I. Was. DONE. Ring the bell, south the alarm, turn off the lights and lock the doors.
DONE. ~ Ella Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Ella Fox
I've traveled around the world and made love with many satisfied women. So I decided to share my story. ~ Rick Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Rick Fox
To make music I rely on other people, which is good - that's the main difference in painting and music at this stage. They are separate parts of my life really, like having two jobs, one in a bar, one in a lighthouse. ~ Danny Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Danny Fox
To be associated with a film that just flat-out makes people happy is such a blessing and a tremendous privilege, and I'll always be grateful for it. People's eyes light up when they talk about it. I've been in Asia, Africa, Europe and even Bhutan; people know the movie there. It's just an amazing thing. ~ Michael J. Fox
Mr Fox quotes by Michael J. Fox
I challenge anybody to show me an example of bias in Fox News Channel. ~ Rupert Murdoch
Mr Fox quotes by Rupert Murdoch
I've been watching Michael J. Fox since I was a toddler, basically. I watched all the 'Back to the Future' movies! I've been a fan my whole life. ~ Juliette Goglia
Mr Fox quotes by Juliette Goglia
My Mother was a very wild Australian woman. When we were in Africa she could kill a snake with one blow from a crow bar, which she kept at the back door. ~ Mem Fox
