Since 1963, LEGO bricks have been manufactured from acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer - ABS copolymer for short - a plastic with a matte finish. It is very hard and robust - import criteria for a children's toy. Laboratories in Switzerland and Denmark regularly test the quality of the ABS. The plastic is distributed to factories as granules rather than in liquid form. These grains of plastic are heated up to 232ºC and converted into a molten mass. Injection moulding machines weighing up to 150 tonnes squeeze the viscous plastic mass into the desired injection moulds - of which there are 2,400 varieties. After seven seconds, the brick produced in this way has cooled down enough to be removed from the mould. The injection moulding method is so precise that out of every million elements produced, only about 18 units have to be rejected. Unsold bricks are converted back into granulates and recycled. ~ Christian Humberg
Materials Engineering quotes by Christian Humberg
Colleges will try to get the good students. That's the way to go. When I chaired my department of Materials Engineering at the Technion in 1990, we started a program for which we set the bar very high. It was the highest at the Technion, above electrical engineering and medicine. ~ Dan Shechtman
Materials Engineering quotes by Dan Shechtman
As an artist, I can't be responsible for how people interpret material. ~ Vince Vaughn
Materials Engineering quotes by Vince Vaughn
Deadlines refine the mind. They remove variables like exotic materials and processes that take too long. The closer the deadline, the more likely you'll start thinking waaay outside the box. ~ Adam Savage
Materials Engineering quotes by Adam Savage
I choose material instinctually - at the heart of it are characters that I feel are fresh and original, and allow for an opportunity to, I suppose, explore uncharted ground. ~ Kathryn Bigelow
Materials Engineering quotes by Kathryn Bigelow
My family and I would never receive royalties on the revenue that my materials brought into the church; materials that were created on our own personal time. ~ Robert H. Schuller
Materials Engineering quotes by Robert H. Schuller
Makikilala rin tayo sa kinds of books and other reading materials that we read. Our reading is the outward expression of our inner hungers and aspirations. ~ Ronald Molmisa
Materials Engineering quotes by Ronald Molmisa
As I've looked into the eyes of street children in Afghanistan desperate for a future other than terrorism, or children in Rwanda hungry for something greater than genocide, I've reached one big conclusion: we belong to one another. And children across the Earth deserve the same hopes and opportunities we give our children here."-->Bernard Amadei, civil engineering professor at the University of Colorado and founder of Engineers Without Borders ~ Bernard Amadei
Materials Engineering quotes by Bernard Amadei
A little love. A little sweet. A little unsure. A little lies. That is all the materials to make the greatest story about love ~ Margaret Watson
Materials Engineering quotes by Margaret Watson
Since the bicycle makes little demand on material or energy resources, contributes little to pollution, makes a positive contribution to health and causes little death or injury, it can be regarded as the most benevolent of machines. ~ S. S. Wilson
Materials Engineering quotes by S. S. Wilson
Hey, if I had my choice for social engineering, I'd declare an automatic R-rating for any movie that depicts television commercials. There's a truly dangerous influence on our children. ~ Marshall Herskovitz
Materials Engineering quotes by Marshall Herskovitz
As clouds are blown away by the wind, the thirst for material pleasures will be driven away by the utterance of the Lord's name. ~ Sarada Devi
Materials Engineering quotes by Sarada Devi
All the events of our life are materials of which we can make what we will. ~ Novalis
Materials Engineering quotes by Novalis
Come now, Tichy. For half a century civilization hasn't been left to its own devices. A hundred years ago a certain Dior was dictating fashions in clothing. Today this sort of regulating has embraced all walks of life. If prostheticism is voted in, I assure you, in a couple of years everyone will consider the possession of a soft, hairy, sweating body to be shameful and indecent. A body needs washing, deodorizing, caring for, and even then it breaks down, while in a prostheticized society you can snap on the loveliest creations of modern engineering. What woman doesn't want to have silver iodide instead of eyes, telescoping breasts, angel's wings, iridescent legs, and feet that sing with every step? ~ Stanislaw Lem
Materials Engineering quotes by Stanislaw Lem
Without preservation and cultivation of the spiritual, your material success will be as ashes in your mouths. ~ Gordon B. Hinckley
Materials Engineering quotes by Gordon B. Hinckley
Bicycles are pieces of art. You get that combination of kinetic engineering, but then, besides the welds, the paint jobs, the kind of the sculpture of it all is quite beautiful. Bikes have such great lines, and all different styles. ~ Robin Williams
Materials Engineering quotes by Robin Williams
After the spiritual powers, there is no thing in the world more unconquerable than the spirit of nationality. The spirit of nationality in Ireland will persist even though the mightiest of material powers be its neighbor. ~ George William Russell
Materials Engineering quotes by George William Russell
I realized that meals, too, are a spiritual service and that meat, bread, and wine are the raw materials from which spirit is formed. ~ Nikos Kazantzakis
Materials Engineering quotes by Nikos Kazantzakis
[B]eyond poverty, beyond the point that the material needs are reasonably satisfied, only from within is peace. ~ Richard P. Feynman
Materials Engineering quotes by Richard P. Feynman
I never want to be in a position where I have to defend my material. It's too subjective. It's for other people to defend or not defend. ~ Sarah Silverman
Materials Engineering quotes by Sarah Silverman
Approaching the Williamsburg Bridge - not really certain of how he had managed to find himself there - he experienced an extraordinary moment of buoyancy, of grace. There was a lot more traffic now, but his shifting was smooth and the sturdy little car was adroit at changing lanes. He launched himself out over the East River. He could feel the bridge humming underneath his wheels and all around him could sense the engineering of it, the forces and tensions and rivets that were all conspiring to keep him aloft. To the south, he glimpsed the Manhattan Bridge, with its Parisian air, refined, elegant, its skirts hiked to reveal tapered steel legs, and, beyond, the Brooklyn Bridge, like a great ropy strand of muscle. In the other direction lay the Queensboro Bridge, like two great iron tsarinas linking hands to dance. And before him, the city that had sheltered him and swallowed him and made him a modest fortune loomed, gray and brown, festooned with swags and boas of some misty gray stuff, a compound of harbor fog and spring dew and its own steamy exhalations. Hope had been his enemy, a frailty that he must at all costs master, for so long now that it was a moment before he was willing to concede that he had let it back into his heart. ~ Michael Chabon
Materials Engineering quotes by Michael Chabon
Reading Chip's college orientation materials, Alfred had been struck by the sentence New England winters can be very cold. The curtains he'd bought at Sears were of a plasticized brown-and-pink fabric with a backing of foam rubber. They were heavy and bulky and stiff. "You'll appreciate these on a cold night," he told Chip. "You'll be surprised how much they cut down drafts." But Chip's freshman roommate was a prep-school product named Roan McCorkle who would soon be leaving thumbprints, in what appeared to be Vaseline, on the fifth-grade photo of Denise. Roan laughed at the curtains and Chip laughed, too. He put them back in the box and stowed the box in the basement of the dorm and let it gather mold there for the next four years. He had nothing against the curtains personally. They were simply curtains and they wanted no more than what any curtains wanted - to hang well, to exclude light to the best of their ability, to be neither too small nor too large for the window that it was their task in life to cover; to be pulled this way in the evening and that way in the morning; to stir in the breezes that came before rain on a summer night; to be much used and little noticed. There were numberless hospitals and retirement homes and budget motels, not just in the Midwest but in the East as well, where these particularly brown rubber-backed curtains could have had a long and useful life. It wasn't their fault that they didn't belong in a dorm room. They'd betrayed no urge to ris ~ Jonathan Franzen
Materials Engineering quotes by Jonathan Franzen
Whatever sphere of the human mind you may select for your special study, whether it be language, or religion, or mythology, or philosophy, whether it be laws or customs, primitive art or primitive science, everywhere, you have to go to India, whether you like it or not, because some of the most valuable and most instructive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India, and in India only. ~ Max Muller
Materials Engineering quotes by Max Muller
A country whose buildings are of wood, can never increase in its improvements to any considerable degree ... Whereas when buildings are of durable materials, every new edifice is an actual and permanent acquisition to the state, adding to its value as well as to its ornament. ~ Thomas Jefferson
Materials Engineering quotes by Thomas Jefferson
But the valid issue is the extent to which man knows how to form and master the material at his command. ~ Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Materials Engineering quotes by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Wisdom is humble that he knows no more. ~ William Cowper
Materials Engineering quotes by William Cowper
True education is concerned not only with practical goals but also with values. Our aims assure us of our material life, our values make possible our spiritual life. ~ Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe
Materials Engineering quotes by Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe
Van Gogh, among others, believed in the religion of art, which, whatever else it involved, made it clear that art is more than the sum of its material characteristics and not simply a reflection of everyday life. ~ Donald Kuspit
Materials Engineering quotes by Donald Kuspit
Teachers need to be more inspirational. But it's also up to engineering to make itself more interesting. ~ Bruce Dickinson
Materials Engineering quotes by Bruce Dickinson
All you're trying to do in an improvisation is get as much material as possible for the editing room. ~ Martin Short
Materials Engineering quotes by Martin Short
I will make the poems of materials, for I think they are to be the most spiritual poems; And I will make the poems of my body and of mortality, For I think I shall then supply myself with the poems of my soul, and of immortality. ~ Walt Whitman
Materials Engineering quotes by Walt Whitman
I am fascinated by the engineering. The science of constructing and understanding why it stands. And I am drawn by the madness, the beauty, the theatricality, the poetry and soul of the wire. And you cannot be a wire-walker without mingling those two ways of seeing life. ~ Philippe Petit
Materials Engineering quotes by Philippe Petit
I just continue to look for different material, great material, as good as I can find, and try to go in there and do as good a job as I can do in making it a record. That's all you can expect. That's all that you can do. ~ George Strait
Materials Engineering quotes by George Strait
The most important thing is to write material that YOU think is funny. If you don't think it's funny, but you're convinced that other people will think it is, well they won't. ~ Mo Rocca
Materials Engineering quotes by Mo Rocca
Each soul in entering the material experience does so for those purposes of advancement towards that awareness of being fully conscious of the oneness with the Creative Forces. ~ Edgar Cayce
Materials Engineering quotes by Edgar Cayce
Falsehood is difficult to be maintained. When the materials of a building are solid blocks of stone, very rude architecture will suffice; but a structure of rotten materials needs the most careful adjustment to make it stand at all. ~ Richard Whately
Materials Engineering quotes by Richard Whately
Policy makers and politicians want more STEM; educators want more STEAM. Both, in ways that are eerily similar, are engaging in social engineering to support an ideology. At the macro-level, in both worlds, it's all about teaching a point of view, rather than teaching students to learn. We seem hell bent on an arbitrarily linear approach to engineering a "useful" or job-securing education, from which we continue to get mixed results. ~ Henry Doss
Materials Engineering quotes by Henry Doss
When you can come across a piece of material that's totally original and fun and completely satisfying, you jump on it. ~ Doug Liman
Materials Engineering quotes by Doug Liman
We haven't shed our engineering pragmatism, so we accomplish things in the simplest manner possible. It helps with budget, obviously. We're not getting rich off web video, and we're supporting two families with our income, so we need to keep as much of the budget to ourselves. ~ Rhett McLaughlin
Materials Engineering quotes by Rhett McLaughlin
I fear we are too much concerned with material things to remember that our real strength lies in spiritual values. ~ Harry Truman
