Zhang Yimou is one of the best directors on mainland China. ~ Jet Li
Mainland China quotes by Jet Li
The most important thing to keep in mind is the incredible diversity of talent that's out there - there are so many great actors from all over Asia, from Singapore and Hong Kong to the Philippines and Mainland China, not to mention many great Asian-American actors who are eager for fun and challenging roles. ~ Kevin Kwan
Mainland China quotes by Kevin Kwan
Well, I think we are seeing some shifts in manufacturing. China, when you go in and you talk to the big manufacturers there, the biggest problems in mainland China are recruiting and retention. There isn't an endless supply of cheap labor anymore in China. And it's now true that the labor rates in Mexico are lower than in China. ~ Rodney Brooks
Mainland China quotes by Rodney Brooks
If you donate overseas, it's a simple matter. In mainland China, there are so many headaches. ~ Ronnie Chan
Mainland China quotes by Ronnie Chan
Audiences in mainland China know how to discuss movies. ~ Andrew Lau
Mainland China quotes by Andrew Lau
In Taiwan during the 1960s and mainland China in the 1980s, conceptualism played a role similar to that of Dada, that is, as a vehicle for upsetting conventions - aesthetic, social, and political. Almost all Chinese conceptual artists proclaimed an allegiance to Dada. On the mainland, they also embraced traditional Chan Budhism, wich encourages an ironic sensibility and rejects the privileging of any one doctrine in the search for enlightment. Combined, Dada and Chan Budhism became a potent weapon in the Chinese avant-garde's assault on business as usual. ~ Gao Minglu
Mainland China quotes by Gao Minglu
After the Tiananmen Massacre, I felt compelled not only to continue writing but to actively resist the restrictions placed on freedom of speech. I set up the publishing company in Hong Kong, with offices in Shenzhen in mainland China, and managed to publish works of fiction, philosophy, and politics by unapproved authors. ~ Ma Jian
Mainland China quotes by Ma Jian
On the one hand, these filmmakers are the descendants of the May Fourth movement at the beginning of the century. One of the important ideological components of the May Fourth movement was its radical antitraditional stance, exemplified by its famous slogan: "Smash the Confucian Temple" (zalan kongjiadian). ~ Tonglin Lu
Mainland China quotes by Tonglin Lu
A brick could be used to stop time. I did it once at my uncle's house, and I nearly wrecked the universe. He wanted to spank me, but decided not to, because he was afraid it would come off as pedophilia to all the viewers who were watching in mainland China. ~ Jarod Kintz
Mainland China quotes by Jarod Kintz
As a condition for entry into the Chinese market, Apple had to agree to the Chinese government's censorship criteria in vetting the content of all iPhone apps available for download on devices sold in mainland China. ~ Rebecca MacKinnon
Mainland China quotes by Rebecca MacKinnon
One of my goals is to have a base near mainland China. I think Hong Kong would be a good match for me. I like being in Hong Kong. ~ Nicolas Cage
Mainland China quotes by Nicolas Cage
The problem is that in order to publish a book in mainland China, you have to agree to be subject to censorship. That's the nature of the system. I don't challenge that system on its face. It's their system. But as an author, I have a choice to make whether I'll participate or I won't. ~ Evan Osnos
Mainland China quotes by Evan Osnos
China is constantly reinventing itself and so is the United States. ~ Patrick Mendis
Mainland China quotes by Patrick Mendis
The Western public should learn and remember one essential thing about China: no matter what European and North American propaganda barks about the People's Republic, China is much more "democratic" than the West. It is democratic in its own way. ~ Andre Vltchek
Mainland China quotes by Andre Vltchek
I suggest that the Western impact, at least in nineteenth-century China, was overstated (and misstated) by an earlier generation of American historians. An especially egregious example of this, I argue, was American treatment of the Opium War, the objective importance of which was not nearly so great as we - and an almost unanimous corps of Chinese historians - have imagined. ~ Paul A. Cohen
Mainland China quotes by Paul A. Cohen
Collingswood frowned at the clouds, like she did not like what they wrote. ~ China Mieville
Mainland China quotes by China Mieville
A six-week trip to China in 1973 convinced me - if I needed convincing - that the autonomy of the aesthetic is something to be protected, and cherished, as indispensable nourishment to intelligence. But a decade-long residence in the 1960s, with its inexorable conversion of moral and political radicalisms into "style," has convinced me of the perils of over- generalizing the aesthetic view of the world. ~ Susan Sontag
Mainland China quotes by Susan Sontag
China is a poor country. The economic development everybody talks about has only benefited a limited part of the population. If this way of leading China into the future continues, with a gap between the rich and the poor growing wider all the time, it will end up in catastrophe. China will be thrust back once more into hopeless chaos. Or fascist structures will become dominant. We are defending the hundreds of millions of peasants who, when all's said and done, are the ones whose labor is producing the wealth on which developments are based. Developments they are benefiting from less and less. ~ Henning Mankell
Mainland China quotes by Henning Mankell
For you, Lady Copley, Lady Agatha wishes you to have her china set, since you complimented it."

Blake bit back laughter at Lady Copley's expression. She had loathed the china set, obviously, and only complimented it as part of the games. But Agatha had known how to discern the truth from the lies. ~ Maya Rodale
Mainland China quotes by Maya Rodale
Years later, a Japanese visitor tried to apologize to Mao for his country's invasion of China. Mao interrupted, "Should I not thank you instead?" Without a worthy opponent, he explained, a man or group cannot grow stronger. ~ Robert Greene
Mainland China quotes by Robert Greene
China is a BRIC country. BRIC country means Brazil, Russia, India and China. This emerging economy really is helping the revival of the world economy. ~ Michael Anti
Mainland China quotes by Michael Anti
You got to be worried when they're agreeing about anything," she said. "Prophets. That's the last bloody thing you want prophets to do. ~ China Mieville
Mainland China quotes by China Mieville
Wealth gives you options, and your decisions about what to do with your options say much about your character. ~ Beau Sides
Mainland China quotes by Beau Sides
I have a memory of my mother kneeling in front of a cabinet in our home, tenderly cradling her wedding china. We never used the plates; she died in her 40s without ever letting herself enjoy these gorgeous pieces. I told myself that I would use my precious items. ~ Roma Downey
Mainland China quotes by Roma Downey
Imperialism and slavery are no white male monopoly, but are everywhere from Egypt, Assyria, and Persia to India, China and Japan. ~ Camille Paglia
Mainland China quotes by Camille Paglia
The lamps were lit, and a good fire crackled in the great stone fireplace. There was a discreet chink of china, the brightness of silver teapot and muffin cover, the comforting smell mingled of steaming hot water, toast and a little sweet tobacco. ~ Susan Hill
Mainland China quotes by Susan Hill
We would never call inexplicable little insights 'hunches,' for fear of drawing the universe's attention. But they happened, and you knew you had been in the proximity of one that had come through if you saw a detective kiss his or her fingers and touch his or her chest where a pendant to Warsha, patron saint of inexplicable inspirations, would, theoretically, hang. ~ China Mieville
Mainland China quotes by China Mieville
In China, any idea that dared to take flight would only crash back to the ground. The gravity of reality is too strong. ~ Liu Cixin
Mainland China quotes by Liu Cixin
The old woman who farms in the Alps, the welder in South Chicago, and the mythical cook from ancient China have this in common: their work is hard and unglamorous, and most people would find it boring, repetitive, and meaningless. Yet these individuals transformed the jobs they had to do into complex activities. They did this by recognizing opportunities for action where others did not, by developing skills, by focusing on the activity at hand, and allowing themselves to be lost in the interaction so that their selves could emerge stronger afterward. ~ Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Mainland China quotes by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Our strategic dialogue with China can both protect American interests and uphold our principles, provided we are honest about our differences on human rights and other issues and provided we use a mix of targeted incentives and sanctions to narrow these differences. ~ Madeleine Albright
Mainland China quotes by Madeleine Albright
By 1900, European scientists recognized that unless a way was found to augment this naturally occurring nitrogen, the growth of the human population would soon grind to a very painful halt ... After Nixon's 1972 trip the first major order the Chinese government placed was for thirteen massive fertilizer factories. Without them, China would have probably starved. ~ Michael Pollan
Mainland China quotes by Michael Pollan
I've been to Japan but I've never been to China, I'd love to go to China. I don't know, I like to go to places that are remote. So, I think I'd like to do that more. And just sort of also explore not having a structured work life someday, to have more free time to sort of see what happens. ~ Ben Stiller
Mainland China quotes by Ben Stiller
I have viewed the West as if it were not only the salvation of China but also the natural and ultimate destination of all humanity. ~ Liu Xiaobo
Mainland China quotes by Liu Xiaobo
I haven't heard of any cases of anti-American blog posts being censored or bloggers encountering consequences for anti-American speech on the web in China. ~ Rebecca MacKinnon
Mainland China quotes by Rebecca MacKinnon
The key to successful change is sensitivity towards that which is indigenous and, in the long run, diversity will always be more resilient than monoculture despite the current unsustainable trends in the opposite direction. ~ Jonathan Watts
Mainland China quotes by Jonathan Watts
Dora Flores was one of the few people Tom confided in. She reported to him as Cyber Division's Inner-Office Field Support. She still had a slight Mexican flavor in her pronunciations, and he liked it. ~ Michael Ben Zehabe
Mainland China quotes by Michael Ben Zehabe
I never thought I'd get to see Rome," Hazel said. "When I was alive, I mean for the first time, Mussolini was in charge. We were at war."
"Mussolini?" Leo frowned. "Wasn't he like BFF's with Hitler?"
Hazel stared at him like he was an alien. "BFF's?"
"Never mind."
"I'd love to see the Trevi Fountain," she said.
"There's a fountain on every block," Leo grumbled.
"Or the Spanish Steps," Hazel said.
"Why would you come to Italy to see Spanosh steps?" Leo asked. "That's like going to China for Mexican food, isn't it?"
"You're hopeless," Hazel complained.
"So I've been told. ~ Rick Riordan
Mainland China quotes by Rick Riordan
You can tell it any way you want, he said, you can be I or he or she or we or they or you and you won't be lying, though you might be telling two stories at once. ~ China Mieville
Mainland China quotes by China Mieville
Hence, as long as China is divided among the imperialist powers, the various cliques of warlords cannot under any circumstances come to terms, and whatever compromises they may reach will only be temporary. ~ Mao Zedong
Mainland China quotes by Mao Zedong
What you up to, Isaac? They're so egalitarian ... well ... Their society's all based on maximizing choice for the individual, which is why they're communistic. Grants the most uninhibited choice to everyone. And as far as I remember the only crime they have is depriving another garuda of choice. And then it's exacerbated or mollified depending on whether they do it with or without respect, which they absolutely love ... ~ China Mieville
Mainland China quotes by China Mieville
The dynamic character of China's nonstatist economic transformation, including its social openness to the rest of the world, is not mutually compatible in the long run with a relatively closed and bureaucratically rigid Communist dictatorship. ~ Zbigniew Brzezinski
Mainland China quotes by Zbigniew Brzezinski
China is an attractive piece of meat coveted by all ... but very tough, and for years no one has been able to bite into it. ~ Zhou Enlai
Mainland China quotes by Zhou Enlai
As a developing country, China needs a favorable neighbouring and international environment for its modernisation. ~ Li Keqiang
Mainland China quotes by Li Keqiang
The Tattoo. You wouldn't say "charming"
that was hardly the adjective, but something, there was something to him. If you were deep in self-hate but stained with ego enough that you needed your death-drive diluted, eager for muteness and quiet, your object-envy strong but not untouched by angst, you might succumb to the Tattoo's brutal enticement. ~ China Mieville
Mainland China quotes by China Mieville
An unreflective passion for social justice may be one of the biggest obstacles to creating peace and prosperity in the 21st century. While there are most certainly factory owners in China whom we would rightly regard as criminal in their treatment of their workers, it is very important not to confuse these incidents with the phenomenon of globalization. It is a good thing that Wal-Mart is encouraging more humane standards in its supplier's factories. ~ Michael Strong
Mainland China quotes by Michael Strong
I reserve magick for necessities, a bit like the good china. It has a time and a place, but eating peanut butter sandwiches off it each morning chips and devalues it. ~ Thomm Quackenbush
Mainland China quotes by Thomm Quackenbush
Wasn't really, to tell you the truth. No shock at all." Then he went on: "I always told her she should go, told her she should go and find love, you know, true love. She deserves it, don't you think? That's where she's gone now. Off to find true love. Perhaps she'll find it too. Out there, on the South China Sea, who knows? Perhaps she'll meet a traveller, in a port, in a hotel, who knows? She's become a romantic, you see? I had to let her go." There were now tears welling in his eyes. ~ Kazuo Ishiguro
Mainland China quotes by Kazuo Ishiguro
The causes of the China Incident were the exclusion and insult of Japan throughout China, the exclusion of Japanese goods, the persecution of Japanese residents in China, and the illegal violation of Japanese rights. ~ Hideki Tojo
Mainland China quotes by Hideki Tojo
Here are pictures of the sources for Daoist mijue "master to disciple" oral teachings, as shown in the manuals used by Daoist masters themselves. The manuals are insufficient for the casual reader to use, the oral koujue explanations given on a personal one-to-one basis are essential. After seeing how Daoists from Longhu Shan,as well as foreign ("american") Dao for $$$ have falsified their use, I am reluctant to share them in full, until a true Qingwei or Zhengyi Grade five and above master ask to see them. The Qingwei (5 thunder-vajra") Daoist seen performing the purification mudra in image #5 below (a mudra shared by Daoists, Tendai Tantric Buddhists in Japan, and Tibetan masters) said when he had seen the manuals shown in pictures 1-4. "Where is the other half of the Thunder-Vajra manual?" Then I knew that it was OK to give it to him! He gave me his address in Jiangxi province; I intend to bring the mijue manual to him on my next trip to China, as Master Zhuang asked me to do, (before his death in 1976, an order given to his maternal great grandfather by the 61st Longhu Shan master, in 1868)!
[Saso facebook post, May 7 2015] ~ Michael Saso
Mainland China quotes by Michael Saso
There will always be nations. The United States will last a long, long time, I believe. France and Germany and Japan, China, other nations, they're going to exist. But they're losing their significance and ability to deal with certain matters. ~ Alan Cranston
Mainland China quotes by Alan Cranston
Watching both the health care and climate/energy debates in Congress, it is hard not to draw the following conclusion: There is only one thing worse than one-party autocracy, and that is one-party democracy, which is what we have in America today. One-party autocracy certainly has its drawbacks. But when it is led by a reasonably enlightened group of people, as China is today, it can also have great advantages. ~ Thomas Friedman
Mainland China quotes by Thomas Friedman
Language is the continuation of coercion by other means."
"Bullshit. It's cooperation." Both theories explained what had happened plausibly. I resisted, because it felt trite, saying that they weren't as contradictory as they sounded. ~ China Mieville
Mainland China quotes by China Mieville
There's not much value to us attacking Chinese systems. We might take a few computers offline. We might take a factory offline. We might steal secrets from a university research programs, and even something high-tech. But how much more does the United States spend on research and development than China does? ~ Edward Snowden
