The writer's job is to get the main character up a tree, and then once they are up there, throw rocks at them. ~ Vladimir Nabokov
Main Character quotes by Vladimir Nabokov
I think 'The Searcher' is a departure from my first because it's less grounded in religion and is far more rooted in the mythic tradition: more of an existential thriller where the main character is actually the central mystery, and his journey is all about trying to figure himself out. ~ Simon Toyne
Main Character quotes by Simon Toyne
I first heard the term "meta-novel" at a writer's conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The idea is that even though each book in a series stands alone, when read collectively they form one big ongoing novel about the main character. Each book represents its own arc: in book one of the series we meet the character and establish a meta-goal that will carry him through further books, in book two that meta-goal is tested, in book three - you get the picture. ~ Carolyn Wheat
Main Character quotes by Carolyn Wheat
..:There's a movie being recorded every day where the main character is you. As they say " all eyes on me". Difference is, is ur story, ur life, so, "all eyes on you." You are required to do and give your best at all times. Regardless what life throws at you... For at the end of the day, you'll be the one people are gonna be talking about. Most importantly, you are the one who is to face the Eternal One. The Director. You decide whether you do a great job and influce others with your performance here on earth. You decide if your movie will be seen and talked about for generations to come. Leave a great inspiring movie. Leave behind a great legacy... Have a great day:.. ~ Rafael Garcia
Main Character quotes by Rafael Garcia
I couldn't bloody believe a prime-time TV show would have an Iraqi ex-Republican Guard torturer as a main character. ~ Naveen Andrews
Main Character quotes by Naveen Andrews
Think of every character as a main character. They believe they're the main characters in their stories. No one should just be an obstacle. ~ Ben Edlund
Main Character quotes by Ben Edlund
Two classics stuck with them. Ender's Game delighted them all; here were soldiers who were just like them, except smaller. The main character was even bred to fight alien species like they were. The next day the members of the 8th greeted each other with the salutation ::Ho, Ender,:: until Brahe told them to knock it off and pay attention. ~ John Scalzi
Main Character quotes by John Scalzi
Have you ever had the feeling that you aren't the main character in the story of your life? That you fill a more minor role- supporting cast, maybe, comic relief, or even antagonist. ~ Elana K. Arnold
Main Character quotes by Elana K. Arnold
Our souls crave eachothers tune, a vibrational pull to the curiousity that there will always be something a little more alive within eachother whenever the other is around. It might be this life, maybe the one after but i can promise you this, whatever story your apart of i will make damn certain you're the main character. ~ Nikki Rowe
Main Character quotes by Nikki Rowe
I was torn. The evil, horny side of me wanted to know more. The good side wanted to feel sympathy and pretend he'd never heard it. I think 'evil horny' is gonna win. - Tyler Campbell (main character) ~ Shaina Richmond
Main Character quotes by Shaina Richmond
Main characters never die in books. If they did, the story would be ruined, or over."
"Everybody is a main character to someone. There are no minor characters. ~ Amy Harmon
Main Character quotes by Amy Harmon
It's not that you have lost touch with these people. You haven't. It's just that they have kept in such close touch with each other. When scrolling through your cell phone, you generally let their numbers be highlighted for a second, hovering, and then move along to people you have spoken to within the last month. It's not that you're a bad friend to these people. It's just that you're not a great one. They know the names of each other's coworkers and the blow-by-blow nature of each other's dramas; they go camping in the Berkshires together and have such sentences in their conversational arsenal as "you left your lip gloss in my bathroom." You have no such sentences. Your connection to your friends is half-baked and you are starting to forget their siblings' names, never mind their coworkers. But you're still in the play even if you're no longer a main character. ~ Sloane Crosley
Main Character quotes by Sloane Crosley
It's not most important to communicate myself on stage as it is to be as funny or interesting as I possibly can on stage. I feel more like I'm doing a play whose main character just happens to share my name. ~ Bo Burnham
Main Character quotes by Bo Burnham
One of my biggest influences as a writer is J. K. Rowling. I grew up with Harry Potter. One thing I absolutely loved was how every single person in Harry's world was so three-dimensional - it was as if each one was the main character in his or her own story and was just making a guest appearance in Harry's story. I strive to do that as a writer. I want every side character to be the main character of his or her own story. ~ Angie Thomas
Main Character quotes by Angie Thomas
Dostoevsky was writing about losers. The main character of The Iliad, Hector, is a loser. It's very boring to talk about winners. The real literature always talks about losers. Madame Bovary is a loser. Julien Sorel is a loser. I am doing only the same job. Losers are more fascinating. Winners are stupid … because usually they win by chance ~ Umberto Eco
Main Character quotes by Umberto Eco
My dad didn't have a formal education, but he had a wonderful vocabulary. So in 'Harvest,' I wanted my main character to be an innately intelligent man who would have the vocabulary to say whatever he wanted in the same way as lots of working-class people can. ~ Jim Crace
Main Character quotes by Jim Crace
Someone should write a book where the main character slowly falls in love with the reader. ~ Unknown
Main Character quotes by Unknown
I abhor crime novels in which the main character can behave however he or she pleases, or do things that normal people do not do, without those actions having social consequences. ~ Stieg Larsson
Main Character quotes by Stieg Larsson
Yes, I do feel the world revolves around me. After all, I am the main character of my own life. ~ Stefanie Schneider
Main Character quotes by Stefanie Schneider
You're the main character of your life," Jacie said. "You're too important to die. That's how everybody feels. ~ Jodi Lynn Anderson
Main Character quotes by Jodi Lynn Anderson
There is one final point, the point that separates a true multivolume work from a short story, a novel, or a series. The ending of the final volume should leave the reader with the feeling that he has gone through the defining circumstances of Main Character's life. The leading character in a series can wander off into another book and a new adventure better even than this one. Main Character cannot, at the end of your multivolume work. (Or at least, it should seem so.) His life may continue, and in most cases it will. He may or may not live happily ever after. But the problems he will face in the future will not be as important to him or to us, nor the summers as golden. ~ Gene Wolfe
Main Character quotes by Gene Wolfe
Martin heaved a heavy sigh, settling deeper into the cushions of the couch. "Like I said, everyone is the main character in their own story. Even villains."
I shook my head. "I don't know ... Not necessarily. I mean, sometimes the story is bigger than the characters, like Jurassic Park. The Park was really the central focus of the story, and all the characters were secondary to the Park. Their only purpose was to react to the Park."
Martin yawned, set his now empty beer on the coffee table, and closed his eyes. "That's because dinosaurs are awesome. We're all sidekicks to dinosaurs."
"Or dinner. ~ Penny Reid
Main Character quotes by Penny Reid
My mother had brought me here when I was fifteen, on a Sunday after I'd read Look Homeward, Angel for the first time. She'd loved the novel, memorizing whole paragraphs, and, of course, naming me after the book's main character. It is a novel you have to read as a young person or you don't get it. ~ Ron Rash
Main Character quotes by Ron Rash
I'd like a book for a friend about saving the world from alien invasion. I'd like the main character to be a little like Freddie Mercury and a little like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Does anything spring to mind? ~ Jen Campbell
Main Character quotes by Jen Campbell
Probably the only thing that isn't great is the time when I know I'm very close to finishing the actual writing of the story and I'm overcome by this sense of loss. I think it's because I know I won't be "talking" to the main character anymore, it's sort of like what you feel when you know a friend is moving away and you probably won't be seeing her again. ~ Christopher Paul Curtis
Main Character quotes by Christopher Paul Curtis
'Cloud Atlas' is for everybody. The main character in the movie is humanity. ~ Lilly Wachowski
Main Character quotes by Lilly Wachowski

"I'm here to kick ass and drink cups of tea. And I'm all out of tea." - Ryou ~ Little Kuriboh Ryou And Melvin
Main Character quotes by Little Kuriboh Ryou And Melvin
I'll tell you a secret about storytelling. Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty ... were not perfect in the beginning. It's only a happy ending on the last page, right? If the princess had everything from the beginning, there wouldn't be a story. Anyone who is imperfect or incomplete can become the main character in the story. ~ Peach-Pit
Main Character quotes by Peach-Pit
Each of us gets to choose the movie of our life. Not only that, but we're the main character, the director, and the producer. So we get to choose how we want it to be.
From the Soul of Uncertainty ~ Mark Susnow
Main Character quotes by Mark Susnow
I remember I once saw this old movie ... ; in it the main character was talking about how sad it is that the last time you have sex you don't know it's the last time. Since I've never even had a first time, I'm not exactly an expert, but I'm guessing it's like that for most things in life
the last kiss, the last laugh, the last cup of coffee, the last sunset, the last time you jump through a sprinkler or eat an ice-cream cone, or stick your tongue out to catch a snowflake. You just don't know.
But I think that's a good thing, really, because if you did know it would be almost impossible to let go. When you do know, it's like being asked to step off the edge of a cliff: all you want to do is get down on your hands and knees and kiss the solid ground, smell it, hold on to it. ~ Lauren Oliver
Main Character quotes by Lauren Oliver
I can resist anything except temptation. Ren, main character in Sherrilyn Kenyon's novel Time Untime. ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Main Character quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
I do think that in the near future, if it hasn't happened already, people will be able to use technology to design their own novels, perhaps with individuals themselves as the main character. In other words, everything is being individualized and narrowed. ~ Don DeLillo
Main Character quotes by Don DeLillo
All people live in a fantasy in which they are the main character. ~ Keiichi Sigsawa
Main Character quotes by Keiichi Sigsawa
You can hope all you want for a happy ending, but sometimes, like it or not, the guy writing your story is working on a tragedy; you may not even be the main character. ~ Shalom Auslander
Main Character quotes by Shalom Auslander
Generally, if a good script comes in I read it, and if it appeals to me, it appeals to me. And it doesn't have to be anything - it doesn't have to be the main character, it doesn't have to be a huge part. It could be a nice cameo - anything that I think is good and surrounded by good, enthusiastic people. ~ Alison Doody
Main Character quotes by Alison Doody
You're always a main character, remember? Ignore anyone, and any story, that doesn't make you feel like one. ~ Carrie Ann DiRisio
Main Character quotes by Carrie Ann DiRisio
If your life was a book, would you be the main character? ~ T00zday
Main Character quotes by T00zday
It's always scary when you're doing a sequel to a film, because you don't want to just repeat the first film in a different location like most sequels. You want to do something totally different, and something that actually expands the world of the main character. ~ Efren Ramirez
Main Character quotes by Efren Ramirez
Writing a new film about cereal killers. Not serial killers, cereal killers. The main character can eat two, three boxes at a time. ~ Dov Davidoff
Main Character quotes by Dov Davidoff
Stories in which the player doesn't inhabit the main character are difficult for games to handle. ~ Hideo Kojima
Main Character quotes by Hideo Kojima
I had access to excerpts to the original version of Per Fine Ounce which were provided to us by David Jenkins, the son of Geoffrey Jenkins, with his consent to write another South Africa thriller using Commander Geoffrey Peace as the main character, and using the same title Per Fine Ounce. David kindly gave us permission to include previously unpublished extracts from the original Bond novel as a front piece for my novel. ~ Peter Vollmer
Main Character quotes by Peter Vollmer
It's really a misconception to identify the writer with the main character, given that the author creates all the characters in the book. In certain ways, I'm every character. ~ Rachel Kushner
Main Character quotes by Rachel Kushner
Lost forever. I wanted to believe that those wrongs could be righted, and the only way to do that, was to write a story where those missing children could be found. That in some way, they could be brought home. Even if it was just a book. My main character, Rylee Adamson is a Tracker, the equivalent of a psychic bloodhound. She can find ~ Anonymous
Main Character quotes by Anonymous
Eventually, 'Dad is dead' turned into 'I will die', which was my introduction to the fear. The fear of gone. The fear of nothing at all, of what happens to me, of I am the main character and the story will crumble if I'm not there to see it through. ~ Savannah Brown
Main Character quotes by Savannah Brown
Martial (the main character of LOCUS SOLUS) has a very interesting conception of literary beauty: the work must contain nothing real, no observations about the world or the mind, nothing but completely imaginary constructions. These are in themselves ideas from an extrahuman world. ~ Pierre Janet
Main Character quotes by Pierre Janet
To me the interesting main character is never the one without flaws. ~ J.J. Abrams
Main Character quotes by J.J. Abrams
Sometimes female characters start out as the wife or girlfriend, but then I realize, 'No, she's the book,' and she becomes a main character. I surrender the book to her. ~ Elmore Leonard
Main Character quotes by Elmore Leonard
I've always loved pinup art, and I've always enjoyed drawing women. I think it was a conscious decision that has resulted in me getting almost exclusive work on comics where the main character is female. ~ Adam Hughes
Main Character quotes by Adam Hughes
I think the female first-person is still dismissed, demonized, especially if the book does not end on an empowering note, especially if the main character is perceived as unlikeable, or too privileged. ~ Kate Zambreno
Main Character quotes by Kate Zambreno
They're monsters."
"That's what Edward thought."
"Oh, yeah? He a friend of yours?"
"No, Miss Librarian. Just a main character in a wildly popular vampire series. ~ Shannon Delany
Main Character quotes by Shannon Delany
I basically drew my own family. My father's name is Homer. My mother's name is Margaret. I have a sister Lisa and another sister Maggie, so I drew all of them. I was going to name the main character Matt, but I didn't think it would go over well in a pitch meeting, so I changed the name to Bart. ~ Matt Groening
Main Character quotes by Matt Groening
Your life isn't some prerecorded movie where, no matter how many times you watch it, the ending remains the same. Your life is a book in progress, and you are the author. So if you don't care for the main character or the gloomy scenery or how the twisted plot is unfolding, then do something to change it. You write your own story. ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
Main Character quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
I'm not the protagonist of a novel or anything...
I'm just a normal college student who likes to read...
But...
If I were to write a book with me as tge main character...
It would be...
...A tragedy. ~ Sui Ishida
Main Character quotes by Sui Ishida
The writer must be a participant in the scene ... like a film director who writes his own scripts, does his own camera work, and somehow manages to film himself in action, as the protagonist or at least the main character. ~ Hunter S. Thompson
Main Character quotes by Hunter S. Thompson
It is only in romances that people undergo a sudden metamorphosis. In real life, even after the most terrible experiences, the main character remains exactly the same. ~ Isadora Duncan
Main Character quotes by Isadora Duncan
Personally, I believe "Young Adult" to be an arbitrary title that means the book "Can be enjoyed by anyone/Has a main character who's not quite an adult/Isn't really boring. ~ Shannon Hale
Main Character quotes by Shannon Hale
People are always thinking that I'm the main character in my books, but each one has been different, and sometimes they've been men. ~ Sue Miller

plot is how the dramatic events (action) in a story change and/or transform the main character (emotion) over time in a meaningful way (theme). ~ Martha Alderson
Main Character quotes by Martha Alderson
Writing a main character is very important to me. Because each time I create one, it feels like another piece of me in a different world. ~ B.A. Gabrielle
Main Character quotes by B.A. Gabrielle
I wouldn't think of my characters' moralities at all. And I think I identify fully with every main character I've written about and would say that I am them pretty much. So in terms of that I don't think I'm similar to Bret Easton Ellis . ~ Tao Lin
Main Character quotes by Tao Lin
[About the main character approaching death in old age, observed by her husband ... ] He saw that she had already laid down a large portion of her life long ago. Piece by piece she had given it away as she wrestled with existence, as her self was absorbed as nourishment into his life and the life of the children and the community. And laid down most piercingly, as she abandoned, one by one, the shapes of the dreams she had planned. Only to take them up again in other forms. ~ Michael D. O'Brien
Main Character quotes by Michael D. O'Brien
Now he only had an abstract interest in what was surrounding him, as though none of this was happening to him, but he was just reading a book about it. The fate of the main character interested him, of course, but if he was killed then he could just pick another book off the shelf - one with a happy ending. ~ Dmitry Glukhovsky
Main Character quotes by Dmitry Glukhovsky
(Why flowers are so important to the main character)
I need the reminder that God loves to make detailed and beautiful things, and that act of creation is itself a sufficient reason to make them. These flowers will live and die here, the majority of them never seen, even though a busy road is less than a mile away. ~ Dee Henderson
Main Character quotes by Dee Henderson
A is for Alibi, my first book, was published in 1982. As it happened the next couple of books took place in June and August of that year. Without meaning to I painted myself into a corner. The other issue was the aging process. I did not want my main character to age one year for every book so I slowed the whole process down. This way I could get through all 26 letters of the alphabet without making her 109 years old in 2015. I might end the series in either 1990 or on New Years Eve 1989. ~ Sue Grafton
Main Character quotes by Sue Grafton
Imagine that you are stuck on a long train ride and must choose one of two books to read in order to pass the time: the first is a novel whose main character is an office worker who is essentially working to pay his monthly cable bill; the second is about someone who decides to travel in South America (and of course encounters various setbacks in the process), but who pushes beyond the boundaries of conventional American life. Which ... book would you pick up to read? Indeed, which of the two characters would you rather be? ~ Mark Thompson
Main Character quotes by Mark Thompson
You are the main character in the story of your life, but other people are the main characters of their own lives. And sometimes you can find healing just by playing a supporting role in someone else's experience. ~ Timothy Kurek
Main Character quotes by Timothy Kurek
It was about time you noticed that love grows only in your head. Imagine you could have spent your whole life thinking you are special to someone who doesn't even know you exist. It's time. It's time for your love lobotomy. And get rid of that dream of yours about being the main character in love fairytales. You're not. ~ Qfd
Main Character quotes by Qfd
Trial Is Part of the Journey For a moment, think back about your favorite fairy tale. In that story the main character may be a princess or a peasant; she might be a mermaid or a milkmaid, a ruler or a servant. You will find one thing all have in common: they must overcome adversity. ~ Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Main Character quotes by Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Hearing the faraway sounds of children at recess makes me understand that I am no longer life's main character. ~ Alec Sulkin
Main Character quotes by Alec Sulkin
My odds were looking about as good as a main character in Game of Thrones. ~ Cora Carmack
Main Character quotes by Cora Carmack
What helped me a lot was that I chose an American lead protagonist, because that liberated a lot from my own knowledge. If I had approached it from the perspective of an Indian main character, I think I would have assumed a lot of knowledge and I would have resented the presence of the author. ~ Karan Bajaj
Main Character quotes by Karan Bajaj
Affect the main character or characters and you win the game. ~ Deyth Banger
Main Character quotes by Deyth Banger
Your opening should give the reader a person to focus on. In a short story, this person should turn up almost immediately; he should be integral to the story's main action; he should be an individual, not just a type. In a novel, the main character may take longer to appear: Anna Karenina doesn't show up in her own novel until chapter eighteen. ~ Nancy Kress
Main Character quotes by Nancy Kress
There are relatively few science fiction or fantasy books with the main character being an old person. ~ Elizabeth Moon
Main Character quotes by Elizabeth Moon
He lied with a smile that paralyzed reason." [Abby Chandlis - main character of The List] ~ Steve Martini
Main Character quotes by Steve Martini
I would love to play a main character and then play different characters as well. I would want for it to be a sitcom, multicamera, audience - that's definitely a dream. It's in the works, so ... it's closer than everybody thinks it is. ~ Brandy Norwood
Main Character quotes by Brandy Norwood
Excerpt from page 3 of "Wicked Washington"
Shelly Williams, the main character, speaking about her life:
And close and dangerous calls were almost my last name. Yet I felt as comfortable among the street hustlers, junkies, thieves, and criminals of D.C. as I did dining with my
white-collar, college-pedigreed friends over filet mignon, Maine lobster, and strawberry cheesecake at LaMermaid
Seafood Restaurant. ~ Sonja D. Jones
Main Character quotes by Sonja D. Jones
You've told a good story in a skillful manner. I like it that you haven't moralized about your heroine's mistakes. You've made it difficult for the reader not to sympathize with her."
"I sympathize with her," Amanda said frankly. "I've always thought it would be the worst kind of horror to be trapped in a loveless marriage. So many women are forced to marry because of pure economics. If more women were able to support themselves, there would be fewer reluctant brides and unhappy wives."
"Why, Miss Briars," he said softly. "How unconventional of you."
She countered his amusement with a perplexed frown. "It's only sensible, really."
He realized suddenly that this was the key to understanding her. Amanda was so doggedly practical that she was willing to discard the hypocrisies and stale social attitudes that most people accepted without thinking. Why, indeed, should a woman marry just because it was the expected thing to do, if she were able to choose otherwise?
"Perhaps most women think it is easier to marry than support themselves," he said, deliberately provoking her.
"Easier?" she snorted. "I've never seen a shred of evidence that spending the rest of one's days in domestic drudgery is any easier than working at some trade. What women need is more education, more choices, and then they will be able to consider options for themselves other than marriage. ~ Lisa Kleypas
Main Character quotes by Lisa Kleypas
If you're making a movie about the effects of time, you kind of have to engage time as the main character. ~ Ryan Gosling
Main Character quotes by Ryan Gosling
A memory came to me. One time, in middle school, a famous author came to talk to our class and give a writing workshop. One of the things she told us about writing a novel was that the story should be about what the main character wants. Dorothy wants to go home to Kansas. George Milton wants a farm of his own. Amelia Sedley wants to marry her darling George and live happily ever after. The end of the story, according to the famous author, is when the character either gests what he wants or realizes he's never going to get it. Or sometimes, she said, like Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind, realizes she doesn't actually want what she thought she wanted all along.
pg. 324 of Bewitching ~ Alex Flinn
Main Character quotes by Alex Flinn
There was magic. Some kind of alchemy. I don't remember the moment you transformed from a prop into a main character. No, that's not what happened. I don't remember when you shape-
shifted from an elf into a Prince. No, that isn't it either. What I really mean is: I don't know if we were meant to fall into each other all along or if you were just in the right place at the right time. Yes, I found safety in your arms in the middle of a hurricane I chose to escape, and I still don't know how it would have turned out if someone else came to my door that day. Or if you never held me. Or if I never cried. Or if everything hadn't been so fairy tale. Until it wasn't. Do you see the magic now, now that it's too late? Do you still remember me? Do I still remember you? And what, in the end, have we learned? Is it really better to have loved and lost? Was it love for you? Who now is dying faster from the lonely? ~ Vironika Tugaleva
Main Character quotes by Vironika Tugaleva
If you are not the main character of your life, then there is a serious issue. ~ Francis Morency
Main Character quotes by Francis Morency
When the audience understands that the main character has a very serious need to change his own heart and mind, the hook is set, and the audience is irrevocably invested. ~ Libbie Hawker
Main Character quotes by Libbie Hawker
A SMALL PIECE OF TRUTH
I do not carry a sickle or scythe.
I only wear a hooded black robe when it's cold.
And I don't have those skull-like facial features you seem to enjoy pinning on me from a distance. You want to know what I truly look like? I'll help you out. Find yourself a mirror while I continue. ~ Markus Zusak
Main Character quotes by Markus Zusak
I never thought I could write this much and now that it's coming to an end, I feel sad that I have to stop, sort of the way you feel at the end of a really good book and you know you're going to miss the main character. But in this case, the main character is me! Myself. Joe (formerly JoDan) Bunch. - Joe Bunch ~ James Howe
Main Character quotes by James Howe
In a film, you always try to have your main character be changed by the end. ~ Frederic Tcheng
Main Character quotes by Frederic Tcheng
I've been acting my whole life. I have this huge imagination! I'm a dancer and my mom's a dance teacher, and I was always performing and entertaining people. I'd go to see live theatre or a movie, and I'd become the main character for a few days afterwards. I loved being somebody new for a temporary amount of time. ~ Natasha Calis
Main Character quotes by Natasha Calis
Once you're imagining being the main character, and you're having the conversations and actually being there, the magic in fiction writing takes over. ~ Will Hobbs
Main Character quotes by Will Hobbs
The same way that you are the main character of your story, you are only a secondary character in everybody else's story. ~ Don Miguel Ruiz
Main Character quotes by Don Miguel Ruiz
I do believe that some humans have more amazing lives than others–above all, those who don't sit down in a chair like mere spectators letting their lives happen in front of them, but they take risks as heroes do, experiencing, living, becoming the main character - but no matter what, we all have at least one story to tell. ~ Merce Cardus
Main Character quotes by Merce Cardus
I should love to do a novel, about one abnormal character seeing present-day life, very ordinary life, yet arresting through it, abnormality, until at the end the reader sees, and with little reluctance, that he is not abnormal at all, and that the main character might as well be himself. ~ Patricia Highsmith
Main Character quotes by Patricia Highsmith
As a hero, you have to play it straight. The audience is going to live through you, so you have to be more neutral. They will be projecting their thoughts and their actions onto the main character. ~ Dolph Lundgren
Main Character quotes by Dolph Lundgren
(Of the main character seeing a new world for the first time.) The air was cold but not bitterly so, and it seemed a bit rough at the back of his throat. He gazed about him, and the very intensity of his desire to take in the new world at a glance defeated itself. He saw nothing but colours - colours that refused to form themselves into things. Moreover, he knew nothing yet well enough to see it: you cannot see things till you know roughly what they are. His first impression was of a bright, pale world - a watercolour world out of a child's paint-box, a moment later he recognised the flat belt of light blue as a sheet of water, or of something like water, which came nearly to his feet. They were on the shore of a lake or river. ~ C.S. Lewis
Main Character quotes by C.S. Lewis
I saw the main character played by Mads Mikkelsen, and he's amazing. Hannibal had that going for it. ~ Michael Pitt
Main Character quotes by Michael Pitt
Middlemarch is a novel that is diminished by being put on the screen. It can't help but be, because so much of what we enjoy in Middlemarch is the interplay between what the characters do and what we know about them because of the telling voice.

It's less of a problem for the cinema when it deals with novels that are purely concerned with action and what people do. I haven't thought this through, and I'm just trying it now to see what it sounds like. But maybe it would be less a problem with novels that are told in the first person. The interesting thing to me about Middlemarch, and Thackeray's Vanity Fair, and several other great novels, is precisely this omniscient, as we call it, third person, which naive readers mistake for the author. It isn't George Eliot who is saying this; it's a voice that George Eliot adopts to tell this story.

There can be something very interesting in a novel like Bleak House, which was also done very well on the television by the same adapter, Andrew Davis. Now, Bleak House is told in two voices, as you remember. One is the somewhat trying Esther Summerson, who is a paradigm of every kind of virtue, and the other is a different sort of voice entirely, a voice that tells the story in the present tense, which was unusual for the time, a voice that doesn't seem to have a main character attached to it.

Even as I was writing 'Empire State,' I knew there were more adventures for the main character, private detective Rad Bradley, to have. I also knew that the world was far larger than what I'd presented in book one. ~ Adam Christopher
Main Character quotes by Adam Christopher
When you use single character viewpoint, you tell the main character's story - and only his or her story. Every single thing in the plot - whether it's an event, problem, emotion, or consequence - should be revealed through that main character's eyes. Your main character needs to be on center stage throughout the entire story, acting and reacting to what is happening in the plot. To do that effectively, reveal only your main character's emotions and thoughts. Tell your reader only what your main character is feeling, not the feelings of other characters. ~ Tracey E. Dils
Main Character quotes by Tracey E. Dils
