No matter what happens, no matter how bad things get, as long as we have love, there's always hope for salvation. ~ Travis Luedke
Luedke Obituary quotes by Travis Luedke
Scarcely a day goes by without some claim that new technologies are fast writing newsprint's obituary. ~ Rupert Murdoch
Luedke Obituary quotes by Rupert Murdoch
The male prostate gland was a mysterious and wonderful thing. ~ Travis Luedke
Luedke Obituary quotes by Travis Luedke
It's not the loss of life that makes the death bitter
it's the obituaries. ~ Evan Esar
Luedke Obituary quotes by Evan Esar
Everyone wrote our obituary but us and the coaches and the kids who stayed with us. The obit was, 'Vanderbilt will have to leave the Southeastern Conference. All the coaches are leaving, and all the students are transferring.' ~ Gordon Gee
Luedke Obituary quotes by Gordon Gee
Do not give alms promiscuously. Select the unworthy poor and make them happy. To give to the deserving is a duty, but to help the improvident, drinking class is clear generosity, so that the donor has a right to be warmed by a selfish pride and count on a most flattering obituary. ~ George Ade
Luedke Obituary quotes by George Ade
So what if someone wrote your obituary ... that doesn't mean you are obligated to die. ~ Lou Holtz
Luedke Obituary quotes by Lou Holtz
How do you change the inevitable? The act of trying to change it could actually cause it to happen. ~ Travis Luedke
Luedke Obituary quotes by Travis Luedke
You know, one of the only times I ever wrote about art was the obituary of Warhol that I did for the Village Voice. ~ Barbara Kruger
Luedke Obituary quotes by Barbara Kruger
About one month before he was killed, when asked by David Frost how his obituary should read: Something about the fact that I made some contribution to either my country, or those who were less well off. I think back to what Camus wrote about the fact that perhaps this world is a world in which children suffer, but we can lessen the number of suffering children, and if you do not do this, then who will do this? I'd like to feel that I'd done something to lessen that suffering. ~ Robert Kennedy
Luedke Obituary quotes by Robert Kennedy
Read your own obituary notice; they say you live longer. Gives you second wind. New lease of life. ~ James Joyce
Luedke Obituary quotes by James Joyce
You should never write your own resume, personal ad, or obituary. In all three cases it is better to show your humility by letting someone else lie for you. ~ David Hayden
Luedke Obituary quotes by David Hayden
This may read like a mad journey through some of the most dangerous places on earth, but it is much more than that as well. Sheets witnessed most of the wars, disasters, and revolutions that followed the end of communism, and his accounts of them
from Chechnya to Chernobyl, and from Abkhazia to Afghanistan
serve as a passionate but considered obituary for the vanished Soviet empire. ~ Oliver Bullough
Luedke Obituary quotes by Oliver Bullough
As he left me in bed, bruised and sore, he had missed the big picture. His promise came too late. He had already hurt me. ~ Travis Luedke
Luedke Obituary quotes by Travis Luedke
The say beauty conquered the beast, but I'll bet lust had a lot to do with it. ~ Travis Luedke
Luedke Obituary quotes by Travis Luedke
The world you once knew is no more for you. ~ Travis Luedke
Luedke Obituary quotes by Travis Luedke
[Obituary of atheist philosopher Richard Robinson]
An Atheist's Values is one of the best short accounts of liberalism (a term Robinson accepted) and humanism (a term he ignored) produced during the present century, all the more powerful for its lucidity and moderation, its wit and wisdom. It may now seem old-fashioned, but during those confused alarms of struggle and fight between the ignorant armies of left and right, thousands of readers must have taken inspiration from Richard Robinson's rational defence of rationalism.
It is a pity that it is now out of print, when there is still so much nonsense and so little sense in the world. ~ Nicolas Walter
Luedke Obituary quotes by Nicolas Walter
I want to leave behind something worth more than obituary posters when I am gone. ~ Vincent Okay Nwachukwu
Luedke Obituary quotes by Vincent Okay Nwachukwu
An autobiography is an obituary in serial form with the last installment missing. ~ Quentin Crisp
Luedke Obituary quotes by Quentin Crisp
There's the obituary to look for the next week, six column inches about nothing that really mattered ~ Chuck Palahniuk
Luedke Obituary quotes by Chuck Palahniuk
There's something sexy about a naked woman gritting her teeth in pain, even when it shouldn't be sexy. ~ Travis Luedke
Luedke Obituary quotes by Travis Luedke
So I'm on a little one-man crusade to bring the obituary closer to the front of the paper. Let's sing a bit louder about the unsung. Rather than spending all our time watching stupid people doing stupid things and being filmed by other stupid people on reality TV shows, why don't we spend a few minutes each day reading about good people doing good things? I'm not being a hippy. It's just that we've got to improve ourselves as a species or we are absolutely doomed. ~ Billy Connolly
Luedke Obituary quotes by Billy Connolly
Very few, even among those who have taken the keenest interest in the progress of the revolution in natural knowledge set afoot by the publication of the 'Origin of Species'; and who have watched, not without astonishment, the rapid and complete change which has been effected both inside and outside the boundaries of the scientific world in the attitude of men's minds towards the doctrines which are expounded in that great work, can have been prepared for the extraordinary manifestation of affectionate regard for the man, and of profound reverence for the philosopher, which followed the announcement, on Thursday last, of the death of Mr Darwin. ~ Thomas Henry Huxley
Luedke Obituary quotes by Thomas Henry Huxley
Women are quoted as sources and appear on interview shows much less frequently than men ... But the by-product of such anonymity may be immortality, for women are also less likely to find themselves written up on the obituary page. ~ Kathleen Hall Jamieson
Luedke Obituary quotes by Kathleen Hall Jamieson
When my obituary notice at last appears in The Times, and they say: 'What, I thought he died years ago,' my ghost will gently chuckle. ~ W. Somerset Maugham
Luedke Obituary quotes by W. Somerset Maugham
If you can't master yourself, someone else will. ~ Travis Luedke
Luedke Obituary quotes by Travis Luedke
The boy, Max Rüst, will later on become a tinker, father of seven more Rüsts, he will go to work for the firm of Hallis & Co., Plumbing and Roofing, in Grünau. At the age of 52 he will win a quarter of a prize in the Prussian Class Lottery, then he will retire from business and die during an adjustment suit which he has started against the firm of Hallis & Co., at the age of 55. His obituary will read as follows: On September, suddenly, from heart-disease, my beloved husband, our dear father, son, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle, Paul Rüst, in his 55th year. This announcement is made with deep grief on behalf of his sorrowing family by Marie Rüst. The notice of thanks after the funeral will read as follows: Acknowledgment. Being unable to acknowledge individually all tokens of sympathy in our bereavement, we hereby express our profound gratitude to all relatives, friends, as well as to the tenants of No. 4 Kleiststrasse and to all our acquaintances. Especially do we thank Herr Deinen for his kind words of sympathy. At present his Max Rüst is 14 years old, has just finished public school, is supposed to call by on his way there at the clinic for the defective in speech, the hard of hearing, the weak-visioned, the weak-minded, the in-corrigible, he has been there at frequent intervals, because he stutters, but he is getting better now. ~ Alfred Doblin
Luedke Obituary quotes by Alfred Doblin
She began to realize some decisions cannot be undone no matter how hard you try. ~ Travis Luedke
Luedke Obituary quotes by Travis Luedke
A life spent in constant labor is a life wasted, save a man be such a fool as to regard a fulsome obituary notice as ample reward. ~ George Jean Nathan
Luedke Obituary quotes by George Jean Nathan
Too many people are overly respectful, braying, 'You're so brave' and Irv fell smack into that trap. After all what's so courageous about having cancer? Once we have it, what choice do we have? But the worst thing of all - and thank God Irv doesn't do this, at least not yet - is all this nonsensical talk about a patient's courageous struggle with cancer that all too often ends in defeat. How many obituaries do you see stating that so-and-so lost their courageous battle with cancer? I hate that! I absolutely hate it! If someone put that in my obituary, I'd come back and kill him! ~ Irvin D. Yalom
Luedke Obituary quotes by Irvin D. Yalom
When your friend who died was still alive, did you ever tell him?"

"Tell him what?"

"That you're… what's the word? Celibate?" Tony asked, trailing his fingers along the buttons on the remote control but not really finding himself able to change the channel. His name, his daughter's name, it all could've easily become a statistic, an obituary, had they not left the tower when they did.

"I'm asexual, not a celibate," replied the lawyer, "and sure, I told him…" She froze for a moment, averting her eyes to the ugly gray-and-red carpeting on the floor. "Clarence didn't care, he was married, anyway. He always used to tell me, "you know, you'd make one hell of an ace attorney, Bailey! ~ Rebecca McNutt
Luedke Obituary quotes by Rebecca McNutt
I contemplated suicide. My main concern was that I would not make the New York Times obituary page. ~ Art Buchwald
Luedke Obituary quotes by Art Buchwald
He knew that if Michelle entered into the walls of the Vatican, she'd corrupt every single clergyman within, causing them to forsake their vows in trade for a few moments with her. With one glance men would happily follow her to the bowels of hell and swim across the lake of fire to get to her. ~ Travis Luedke
Luedke Obituary quotes by Travis Luedke
The following obituary appeared in the Pittsburgh Sun-Telegraph of Sept. 16, 1958:

A GREAT POET died last week in Lancieux, France, at the age of 84.

He was not a poet's poet. Fancy-Dan dilletantes will dispute the description "great."

He was a people's poet. To the people he was great. They understood him, and knew that any verse carrying the by-line of Robert W. Service would be a lilting thing, clear, clean and power-packed, beating out a story with a dramatic intensity that made the nerves tingle.

And he was no poor, garret-type poet, either. His stuff made money hand over fist. One piece alone, The Shooting of Dan McGrew, rolled up half a million dollars for him. He lived it up well and also gave a great deal to help others.

"The only society I like," he once said, "is that which is rough and tough - and the tougher the better. That's where you get down to bedrock and meet human people."

He found that kind of society in the Yukon gold rush, and he immortalized it. ~ Robert W. Service
Luedke Obituary quotes by Robert W. Service
I never wanted to see anybody die, but there are a few obituary notices I have read with pleasure. ~ Clarence Darrow
Luedke Obituary quotes by Clarence Darrow
The hairstyle that was chosen would impact how everyone - every filmgoing human - would envision me for the rest of my life. (And probably even beyond - it's hard to imagine any TV obituary not using a photo of that cute little round-faced girl with goofy buns on either side of her inexperienced head.) ~ Carrie Fisher
Luedke Obituary quotes by Carrie Fisher
Obituaries are just like biographies, only shorter. They remind us that interesting, successful people rarely lead orderly, linear lives. I defy you to find a single obituary that begins, "Jane Doe won the Nobel Prize in large part because she was admitted to a prestigious, highly selective preschool. After that, everything just kind of fell into place." Instead, you will read about dead ends, lucky coincidences, quirky habits, excessive self-confidence (often interspersed with bursts of excessive self-doubt), and a lot of passion for something. ~ Charles Wheelan
Luedke Obituary quotes by Charles Wheelan
Biography is a very definite region bounded on the north by history, on the south by fiction, on the east by obituary, and on the west by tedium. ~ Philip Guedalla
