Ruth and I often share the stories that we have heard and the things that we have learned to help the western church and many of its congregations grasp a new, and perhaps more biblical, perspective on suffering and persecution in our faith. We share often about how suffering and persecution relate to our faith. We desperately want our western brothers and sisters in Christ to realize that the greatest enemy of our faith today is not communism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Atheism, or even Islam. Our greatest enemy is lostness. Lostness is the terrible enemy that Jesus commissioned His followers to vanquish with the battle strategy that He spelled out for them in Matthew 28:18-20. He was addressing this same enemy when He plainly clarified His purpose in coming: 'I have come to seek and to save those who are lost.' Our hope is that believers around the world will get close enough to the heart of God that the first images that come to mind when we heard the word 'Muslim' are not Somali pirates or suicide bombers or violent jihadists or even terrorists. When we hear the word 'Muslim,' we need to see and think of each and every individual Muslim as a lost person who is loved by God. We need to see each Muslim as a person in need of God's grace and forgiveness. We need to see each Muslim as someone for whom Christ died. ~ Nik Ripken
Lostness quotes by Nik Ripken
The outsider is not sure who he is. He has found an "I", but it is not his true "I".' His main business is to find his way back to himself. ~ Colin Wilson
Lostness quotes by Colin Wilson
There are several ways to react to being lost. One is to panic: this was usually Valentina's first impulse. Another is to abandon yourself to lostness, to allow the fact that you've misplaced yourself to change the way you experience the world. ~ Audrey Niffenegger
Lostness quotes by Audrey Niffenegger
DUMB AUTUMN SMELLS. The
marguerite, unbroken, passed
between home and chasm through
your memory.
A strange lostness was
palpably present, almost
you would have lived. ~ Paul Celan
Lostness quotes by Paul Celan
There is no lostness like that which comes to a man when a perfect and certain pattern has dissolved about him. ~ John Steinbeck
Lostness quotes by John Steinbeck
She had lost herself somewhere along the frontier between her inventions, her stories, her fantasies and her true self. The boundaries had become effaced, the tracks lost, she had walked into pure chaos, and not a chaos which carried her like the galloping of romantic riders in operas and legends, but which suddenly revealed the stage props: a papier-mâché horse. ~ Anais Nin
Lostness quotes by Anais Nin
I don't know, maybe it's easier to be lost than found. At least there's energy in lostness. Something to be done. ~ Claire Vaye Watkins
Lostness quotes by Claire Vaye Watkins
Some beautiful paths can't be discovered without getting lost. ~ Erol Ozan
Lostness quotes by Erol Ozan
We're all just wandering around with our fingers crossed, hoping we'll meet someone who will make our lostness a little less lonely. ~ Alanna Rusnak
Lostness quotes by Alanna Rusnak
Our age in its honest moments admits its lostness. ~ Gene Edward Veith Jr.
Lostness quotes by Gene Edward Veith Jr.
Christians are simply pilgrims who acknowledge their lostness and their desire for help in finding the way. ~ Philip Yancey
Lostness quotes by Philip Yancey
How can you tell if he is working on you now? If you begin to sense your lostness and find yourself wanting to escape it, you should realize that that desire is not something you could have generated on your own. Such a process requires Help, and if it is happening it is a good indication that he is even now at your side. ~ Timothy Keller
Lostness quotes by Timothy Keller
Among men, it seems, historically at any rate, the processes of coordination and disintegration follow each other with great regularity, and the index of the coordination is the measure of the disintegration which follows. There is no mob like a group of well-drilled soldiers when they have thrown off their discipline. And there is no lostness like that which comes to a man when a perfect and certain pattern has dissolved about him. There is no hater like one who has greatly loved. ~ John Steinbeck
Lostness quotes by John Steinbeck
I record my life, sifting and trying to separate what is real from what I've dreamed. I have decided not to tell you what is fact versus what is unfact primarily because (a) I am giving you a portrait of the essence of me, and (b) because, living where I do, living in the chasm that cuts through thought, it is lonely… come with me, reader. I am toying with you, yes, but for a real reason. I am asking you to enter the confusion with me, to give up the ground with me, because sometimes that frightening floaty place is really the truest of all. Kierkegaard says, 'The greatest lie of all is the feeling of firmness beneath our feet. We are most honest when we are lost.' Enter that lostness with me. Live in the place I am, where the view is murky, where the connecting bridges and orienting maps have been surgically stripped away. ~ Lauren Slater
Lostness quotes by Lauren Slater
Half the fun of the travel is the esthetic of lostness. ~ Ray Bradbury
Lostness quotes by Ray Bradbury
When the younger son was no longer considered a human being by the people around him, he felt the profundity of his isolation, the deepest loneliness one can experience. He was truly lost, and it was this complete lostness that brought him to his senses. ~ Henri J.M. Nouwen
Lostness quotes by Henri J.M. Nouwen
I just want to be normal." - Fenn ~ Candace Knoebel
Lostness quotes by Candace Knoebel
I tried not to think about my life. I did not have any good solid plans for it long-term - no bad plans either, no plans at all - and the lostness of that, compared with the clear ambitions of my friends (marriage, children, law school), sometimes shamed me. Other times in my mind I defended such a condition as morally and intellectually superior - my life was open and ready and free - but that did not make it less lonely. ~ Lorrie Moore
