When we advance more confident claims and they fail to come to fruition, this constitutes much more powerful evidence against our hypothesis. We can't really blame anyone for losing faith when this occurs ~ Nate Silver
Losing Faith quotes by Nate Silver
I shall not commit the grievous sin of losing faith in Man ~ Rabindranath Tagore
Losing Faith quotes by Rabindranath Tagore
No one could believe that Rachel Held - once such a promising young evangelist - was losing faith. Their prescriptions rolled in: "God's ways are higher than our ways. You need to stop asking questions and just trust him." "There must be some sin in your life causing you to stumble. If you repent, your doubts will go away." "You need to avoid reading anything besides the Bible. Those books of yours are leading you astray." "You should come to my church." "You should listen to Tim Keller." "You need to check your pride, Rachel, and submit yourself to God. ~ Rachel Held Evans
Losing Faith quotes by Rachel Held Evans
How desperately we wish to maintain our trust in those we love! In the face of everything, we try to find reasons to trust. Because losing faith is worse than falling out of love. ~ Sonia Johnson
Losing Faith quotes by Sonia Johnson
There are times in my 30 years in the theater that I have come perilously close to losing faith in the one form of action I have in this life. ~ Athol Fugard
Losing Faith quotes by Athol Fugard
In the secret of my heart I am in perpetual quarrel with God that He should allow such things [as the war] to go on. My non-violence seems almost impotent. But the answer comes at the end of the daily quarrel that neither God nor non-violence is impotent. Impotence is in men. I must try on without losing faith even though I may break in the attempt. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Losing Faith quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
How can you allow the trading companies to locate computers closer to exchanges and flash millions of bids to give an unfair advantage? ... Even professionals are losing faith in some aspects of the system. ~ Mario Gabelli
Losing Faith quotes by Mario Gabelli
Lord, set my heart afire with faith, because I am losing faith. Lord, touch my heart, and set it afire. ~ Anne Rice
Losing Faith quotes by Anne Rice
She had lost him. Lost him because she'd let him go. And she could not allow herself to regret that decision. ~ Harriet Evans
Losing Faith quotes by Harriet Evans
Losing faith in your own singularity is the start of wisdom, I suppose; also the first announcement of death. ~ Peter Conrad
Losing Faith quotes by Peter Conrad
Losing faith in one's self means losing faith in God. ~ Swami Vivekananda
Losing Faith quotes by Swami Vivekananda
A bad leader wouldn't stress the importance of staying together to stop the enemy. You want peace? You can't forgive the enemy, if you can't forgive your men for losing faith. You can't force every one single Union deserter to fight, but I know, only you can inspire every deserter to fight for their cause. - Amelia Raht ~ Monet Polny
Losing Faith quotes by Monet Polny
Two people with mental issues in a relationship does not work. It's like sitting in a boat and neither one has an oar to row the other to shore. You can meet your mirror image in life, but that doesn't mean you should marry him. ~ Shannon L. Alder
Losing Faith quotes by Shannon L. Alder
Perhaps the most humiliating condition in life is when you no longer feel that there's still someone or something worth waiting for and that, worst of all, no one or nothing's waiting there for you in the twilight of your existence. (Danny Castillones Sillada, On Losing Faith) ~ Danny Castillones Sillada
Losing Faith quotes by Danny Castillones Sillada
No matter what sort of difficulties you must endure and no matter hiw painful your experiences, you must not lose hope. Losing faith is the only thing that can truely distroy you. To conquer yourself and your weaknesses are a greater triumph than to conquer thousands in battle. ~ Colleen Houck
Losing Faith quotes by Colleen Houck
America is losing faith in modern medicine, and for good reason. ~ Julian Whitaker
Losing Faith quotes by Julian Whitaker
Pepsi. A refreshing drink. A soft tone playing when you wake up, but then it is gone and you don't know if you dreamed it. A hallway glimpsed in the back of your refrigerator, but when you look again it is gone. The recurring feeling that your shower is losing faith in you. Desperation. Hunger. Starving, not literally, but still. That hallway again, lined with doors that you know you can open. Your fridge is empty. You haven't left your home in days, and yet you come and go. This isn't food. What are you eating? Pepsi: Drink Coke. The ~ Joseph Fink
Losing Faith quotes by Joseph Fink
I contend that the reason why America is not as happy as it was in 1950 or 1920 or whenever, 100 years ago, is because our priorities are wrong, but it has nothing to do with exploiting the planet and has everything to do with losing faith in God. ~ Glenn Beck
Losing Faith quotes by Glenn Beck
How much could the person you love change, and still remain the same person to whom you'd made your promise? We don't expect our lovers to remain the same over the course of a long relationship. In fact, if you're married at sixty-five to the same person you married when you were twenty, your marriage has probably failed. But there are changes, over time, that spell doom for a marriage, although exactly what these are, and to what degree, varies from couple to couple. For some people, vast changes over time make no difference to the fundamental sense of devotion one soul has for another. But for others, relatively small changes can push things to the breaking point: gaining or losing weight, gaining or losing faith, gaining or losing wealth. How does any relationship survive in the end, when change is the only constant? ~ Jennifer Finney Boylan
Losing Faith quotes by Jennifer Finney Boylan
Yes, Joseph Smith did see angels and visions - because he was the instrument in God's hands to restore the same Church of Jesus Christ as existed in primitive times - all of its powers as well as all of its doctrines. Yet sorrowfully, on occasion, some are willing to set aside the precious gospel truths restored by Joseph Smith because they get diverted on some historical issue or some scientific hypothesis not central to their exaltation, and in so doing they trade their spiritual birthright for a mess of pottage. They exchange the absolute certainty of the Restoration for a doubt, and in that process they fall into the trap of losing faith in the many things they do know because of a few things they do not know. There will always be some seemingly intellectual crisis looming on the horizon as long as faith is required and our minds are finite, but likewise there will always be the sure and solid doctrines of the Restoration to cling to, which will provide the rock foundation upon which our testimonies may be built. ~ Tad R. Callister
Losing Faith quotes by Tad R. Callister
I'M LOSING FAITH IN MY FAVORITE COUNTRY

Throughout my life, the United States has been my favorite country, save and except for Canada, where I was born, raised, educated, and still live for six months each year. As a child growing up in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, I aggressively bought and saved baseball cards of American and National League players, spent hours watching snowy images of American baseball and football games on black and white television and longed for the day when I could travel to that great country. Every Saturday afternoon, me and the boys would pay twelve cents to go the show and watch U.S. made movies, and particularly, the Superman serial. Then I got my chance. My father, who worked for B.F. Goodrich, took my brother and me to watch the Cleveland Indians play baseball in the Mistake on the Lake in Cleveland. At last I had made it to the big time. I thought it was an amazing stadium and it was certainly not a mistake. Amazingly, the Americans thought we were Americans.

I loved the United States, and everything about the country: its people, its movies, its comic books, its sports, and a great deal more. The country was alive and growing. No, exploding. It was the golden age of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The American dream was alive and well, but demanded hard work, honesty, and frugality. Everyone understood that. Even the politicians.

Then everything changed.

Partly because of its proximity to ~ Stephen Douglass
Losing Faith quotes by Stephen Douglass
Whenever i find myself losing faith in humanity, i come back to the classical music. They are a great reminder that we are also able to produce beautiful things made out of strong and barely controllable emotions. ~ Efrat Cybulkiewicz
Losing Faith quotes by Efrat Cybulkiewicz
Before we talk about further accessions, we have to consolidate the European Union internally. People are increasingly losing faith in the EU's effectiveness. ~ Martin Schulz
Losing Faith quotes by Martin Schulz
Manhattanism is the one urbanistic ideology that has fed, from its conception, on the splendors and miseries of the metropolitan condition - hyper-density - without once losing faith in it as the basis for a desirable modern culture. Manhattan's architecture is a paradigm for the exploitation of congestion. ~ Rem Koolhaas
Losing Faith quotes by Rem Koolhaas
I was swiftly losing faith in humanity. Not that I had much to spare. ~ Wildbow
Losing Faith quotes by Wildbow
Somebody bugged Barry Goldwater's apartment during the 1964 election without it triggering a national trauma. The Johnson administration tapped the phones of Nixon supporters in 1968, and again nothing happened. John F. Kennedy regaled reporters with intimate details from the tax returns of wealthy Republican donors, and none of the reporters saw anything amiss. FDR used the Federal Bureau of Investigation to spy on opponents of intervention into World War II
and his targets howled without result. If Watergate could so transform the nation's sense of itself, why did those previous abuses, which were equally well known to the press, not do so? Americans did not lose their faith in institutions because of the Watergate scandal; Watergate became a scandal because Americans were losing faith in their institutions. ~ David Frum
Losing Faith quotes by David Frum
I was born a Christian, but I became an atheist back in high school because I just started losing faith. I'd lost my brother and best friend, Nadarius. I couldn't get a job. But I do feel like there is a higher power now, and it's inside of me. ~ SpaceGhostPurrp
Losing Faith quotes by SpaceGhostPurrp
So we had better call upon our lawyers, politicians, philosophers and even poets to turn their attention to this conundrum: how do you regulate the ownership of data? This may well be the most important political question of our era. If we cannot answer this question soon, our sociopolitical system might collapse. People are already sensing the coming cataclysm. Perhaps this is why citizens all over the world are losing faith in the liberal story, which just a decade ago seemed irresistible.
How, then, do we go forward from here, and how do we cope with the immense challenges of the biotech and infotech revolutions? Perhaps the very same scientists and entrepreneurs who disrupted the world in the first place could engineer some technological solution? For example, might networked algorithms form the scaffolding for a global human community that could collectively own all the data and oversee the future development of life? As global inequality rises and social tensions increase around the world, perhaps Mark Zuckerberg could call upon his 2 billion friends to join forces and do something together? ~ Yuval Noah Harari
Losing Faith quotes by Yuval Noah Harari
Spinoza's Conjecture:Belief comes quickly and naturally, skepticism is slow and unnatural, and most people have a low tolerance for ambiguity.
The scientific principle that a claim is untrue unless proven otherwise runs counter to our natural tendency to accept as true that which we can comprehend quickly. Thus it is that we should reward skepticism and disbelief, and champion those willing to change their mind in the teeth of new evidence. Instead, most social institutions-most notably those in religion, politics, and economics-reward belief in the doctrines of the faith or party or ideology, punish those who challenge the authority of the leaders, and discourage uncertainty and especially skepticism. ~ Michael Shermer
Losing Faith quotes by Michael Shermer
Religious people ... hold a kind and merciful view of life, the faith of the broken, the hounded, the hopeless. Yet too often, they will not extend that spirit to our fellow creatures. ~ Matthew Scully
Losing Faith quotes by Matthew Scully
The four things that matter in life: 1) love 2) honesty 3) faith 4) courage. ~ Bill Butterworth
Losing Faith quotes by Bill Butterworth
To see how we separate, we first have to examine how we get together.
Friendships begin with interest. We talk to someone. They say something interesting and we have a conversation about it. However, common interests don't create lasting bonds. Otherwise, we would become friends with everyone with whom we had a good conversation. Similar interests as a basis for friendship doesn't explain why we become friends with people who have completely different interests than we do.

In time, we discover common values and ideals. However, friendship through common values and ideals doesn't explain why atheists and those devout in their faith become friends. Vegans wouldn't have non-vegan friends. In the real world, we see examples of friendships between people with diametrically opposed views. At the same time, we see cliques form in churches and small organizations dedicated to a particular cause, and it's not uncommon to have cliques inside a particular belief system dislike each other.

So how do people bond if common interests and common values don't seem to be the catalyst for lasting friendships?

I find that people build lasting connections through common problems and people grow apart when their problems no longer coincide. This is why couples especially those with children tend to lose their single friends. Their primary problems have become vastly different. The married person's problems revolve around family and children. The single person' ~ Corin
Losing Faith quotes by Corin
Science has only two things to contribute to religion: an analysis of the evolutionary, cultural, and psychological basis for believing things that aren't true, and a scientific disproof of some of faith's claims (e.g., Adam and Eve, the Great Flood). Religion has nothing to contribute to science, and science is best off staying as far away from faith as possible. The "constructive dialogue" between science and faith is, in reality, a destructive monlogue, with science making all the good points, tearing down religion in the process. ~ Jerry A. Coyne
Losing Faith quotes by Jerry A. Coyne
Faith is the andtidote for fear ~ Russell M. Nelson
Losing Faith quotes by Russell M. Nelson
We live out our call most fully when we are a community of faith with arms wrapped about a community of pain. ~ John M. Perkins
Losing Faith quotes by John M. Perkins
By becoming aware of God's Spirit, by slowing down and paying attention to the tastes and sounds and smells of the food we make and eat, we infuse our meals - and by extension our hearts - with a sense of awe, a depth of prayer that cannot help but transform our mindless eating into moving meditations. ~ Mary DeTurris Poust
Losing Faith quotes by Mary DeTurris Poust
... God loved me not because I was lovable, but because it was His nature to do so. ~ Oswald Chambers
Losing Faith quotes by Oswald Chambers
When you read the news, and you see all this bad stuff happening, there's a tendency to lose faith in humanity. But I meet so many people who restore it and realize that, actually, 99 percent of people are great. ~ Johnny Galecki
Losing Faith quotes by Johnny Galecki
A writer needs a partner who can act as fuel to his artistic mind, yet has the great ability to sober him up and help him be in sync with the non-artistic part of his soul. ~ Janvier Chouteu-Chando
Losing Faith quotes by Janvier Chouteu-Chando
On the list of qualities necessary to humans trying to make our way through life, truth scores fairly low. Why do people believe and do weird things? Because in the end, feeling alive is more important than telling the truth. We have evolved as living creatures to express ourselves, to be creative, to tell stories. We are instruments for feeling, faith, energy, emotion, significance, belief, but not really truth. ~ Louis Theroux
Losing Faith quotes by Louis Theroux
The swallow's wings popped open, but they flapped awkwardly at the sides of its body like wild oars. And then, as the bird fell with skittering wings, it gave one solid thrum. This slowed its descent, momentarily. It gave another thrum, and another, and then, as if its body remembered what it was supposed to do, the bird began to beat its wings rhythmically. The muscle memory was still within it. It was still losing ground, but it was flapping at least. ~ Bridget Asher
Losing Faith quotes by Bridget Asher
I wanted him to be a poet. I wanted him to adventure out into the world and learn its ways, not losing himself in the jumble of life but seeing it in the poet's eye, and withdrawing after in the library room where he could write his poems of revelation. He would tell what he had seen. He never wrote a word in his life. But he did see. ~ Josephine Humphreys
Losing Faith quotes by Josephine Humphreys
If you need more power, you must pray more. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Losing Faith quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
If you're facing a season of trials, don't allow the enemy to have a field day by putting negative thoughts in your mind. Let go of stinking thinking. Instead of turning away from God in anger or confusion, run into His loving arms where He will comfort you. ~ Dana Arcuri
Losing Faith quotes by Dana Arcuri
There is no finer sensations in life that which comes with victory over one's self. Go forward to a goal of inward achievement, brushing aside all your old internal enemies as you advance. ~ Vash Young
Losing Faith quotes by Vash Young
It is impossible to live in autarchy, to make the testimony of faith, pray and fast and go to pilgrimage only, far from men and worrying about no one except oneself. It is worth repeating that to be with God is tantamount to being with men; to carry faith is tantamount to carrying the responsibility of a continuous social commitment. The teaching that we should extract from zakat is explicit: to posses is tantamount to having to share. ~ Tariq Ramadan
Losing Faith quotes by Tariq Ramadan
A proud faith is as much a contradiction as a humble devil. ~ Stephen Charnock
Losing Faith quotes by Stephen Charnock
My yoga practice was and will always be a spiritual experience. I can honestly say, "Yoga delivered me back to GOD!" ~ Faith Hunter
Losing Faith quotes by Faith Hunter
God of mighty powers.
God of great deeds. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Losing Faith quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Hope and faith are loaded guns. Everything I had ever been taught told me things that were too good to be true usually are. It was a silly thought to think that I could get out of these hills. It was a silly thought to think that the life I was born into was something that could be so easily left behind. Some were destined for bigger things, far off places and such. But some of us were glued to this place and we live out what little bit of life we were given until we were just another body buried on uneven ground. ~ David Joy
Losing Faith quotes by David Joy
You see the same God that you saying might not even exist
Becomes real to us, but only when we dying in bed
When ya healthy it's like, we don't really care for Him then
Leave me alone God, I'll call you when I need you again
Which is funny, everyone will sleep in the pews
Then blame God for our problems like He sleeping on you
We turn our backs on Him, what do you expect Him to do?
It's hard to answer prayers when nobody's praying to you ~ Nathan Feuerstein (NF)
Losing Faith quotes by Nathan Feuerstein (NF)
To the Nameless Saints who soothe the winds and still the restless sea...

Lenos turned his grandmother's talisman between his hands as he prayed.

I beg protection for this vessel--

A sound shuddered through the ship, followed by a swell of cursing. Lenos looked up as Lila got to her feet, steam rising from her hands.

-- and those who sail aboard it. I beg kind waters and clear skies as we make our way--

"If you break my ship, I will kill you all," shouted Jasta.

His fingers tightened around the pendant.

-- our way into danger and darkness.

"Damned Antari," muttered Alucard, storming up the steps to the landing where Lenos stood, elbows on the rail.

The captain slumped down against a crate and produced a flask. "This is why I drink."

Lenos pressed on.

I beg this as a humble servant, with faith in the vast world, in all its power.

He straightened, tucking the necklace back under his collar.

"Did I interrupt?" asked Alucard.

Lenos looked from the singe marks on the deck to Jasta bellowing from the wheel as the ship tepped suddenly sideways under the force of whatever magic the three Antari were working, and at last to the man who sat drinking on the floor.

"Not really, ~ V.E. Schwab
Losing Faith quotes by V.E. Schwab
But the fact that Christ as the bridegroom brings forth fruit through me as the bride, through the agency of the indwelling Holy Spirit by faith, opens the way for me as a Christian to begin to know in the present life the reality of the supernatural. This is where the Christian is to live. Doctrine is important, but it is not an end in itself. There is to be an experiential reality, moment by moment. ~ Francis Schaeffer
Losing Faith quotes by Francis Schaeffer
If your storm has not passed chances are there are some lessons that you have not learned. ~ Germany Kent
Losing Faith quotes by Germany Kent
So you can make me promise, you shit - and I did promise you - but if you think your losing your sight is going to make me leave you, you're so fucking wrong. And I'll spend the rest of my days proving it to you. ~ S.E. Jakes
Losing Faith quotes by S.E. Jakes
The ship did not leave without you. It left to make room for your ship soon to arrive ... the power of hope and faith. ~ Val Edward Simone
Losing Faith quotes by Val Edward Simone
Sometimes you are in the middle of your destiny before you even know it has begun. ~ Sarah Holman
Losing Faith quotes by Sarah Holman
What is faith but a kind of betting or speculation after all? It should be, I bet that my Redeemer liveth. ~ Samuel Butler
Losing Faith quotes by Samuel Butler
Failing to recognize the worth of beauty independent from utilitarian function is symptomatic of an abject poverty of the soul. It's like saying that if we turned St. Peter's Basilica into a parking garage, we would improve it by making it practical. There's a word for this, and it is vandalism. We must not vandalize the faith in the name of pragmatism! ~ Brian Zahnd
Losing Faith quotes by Brian Zahnd
Prayer is not a tool of faith by which we control His control over our lives. Rather, it is the conversation God began with us when He established a relationship with us in Baptism. ~ Richard C. Eyer
