Well,' Lockwood said, "if you judge success by the number of enemies you make, that was a highly successful evening. ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
When you cannot pinpoint a pain in your body, the whole world seems to throb with it. Trees in pain, lit windows in pain, Wednesday nights in pain. Pianos flaming with pain, and the scale sliding up into a cry. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
And after all I've done, I'm not sure the devil isn't coming after me. ~ Bill Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Bill Lockwood
I paint a tree - I think of how the roots go deep, deep into the earth. How the tree grows year by year toward the sky. How it stands with the winds. ~ Douglas Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Douglas Lockwood
He clenched his small fist, bellowed his rage to the heavens, and resolved to never again recognize the authority of any man on earth. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
I fuckin eat silence of crickets for fun. I got life after
life and a name like Baby. Every time I try to cry a tear
a new kittenhead grows out of me. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
Star Trek wouldn't die. There were a whole lot of young people who were touched by the thought process of science fiction. If you watched a cop show, there wasn't anything that was going to stimulate your mind. ~ Gary Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Gary Lockwood
Doubt can lead you where certainty never will. ~ Todd Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Todd Lockwood
We're constantly reminded that this precious life is what you make of it. But what if you're not sure of what you want to make it into?
On the one hand there are those resolute in their life's agenda and objectives, often set by the scriptural society they choose to adhere to, or one passed down from parents and family. They know what they want because they allow themselves to be told what is important, to be guided by those who have gone before. A proven formula maybe, or an unrealistic dream. Is true success in ones life fairly measured against someone else's achievements, should we use those achievements of others as our own check list? Surely we will find happiness just as they have, or not, at the end of it.
The opposite end of the spectrum sees the tragic dreamers, unable to answer the question of why they're even here, the absence of knowing what their true calling is drives them close to insanity, desperate to live a meaningful life but haunted by the inability to see what constitutes as such. Often turning to artistic release to try and express themselves, their own high standards against which they measure themselves tragically, often fatally high.
I find myself somewhere in the middle. I know what society expects but I don't agree with all of it. Much I have to adhere to simply to exist. Fortunately an education grants me a career not a job, that in the current world gives me choices that others do not and I am thankful. But I'm concious that the wel ~ Raven Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Raven Lockwood
It is not so much what we get out of life as what we put into it that determines how large our returns of happiness shall be. The triumphant life is to be achieved through service. But it must be free and not compulsory ... There is a place where the path of duty suddenly becomes the path of beauty. ~ Frank C. Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Frank C. Lockwood
Well, I make that one murder victim, one police interrogation and one conversation with a ghost," George said. "Now that's what I call a busy evening."
Lockwood nodded. "To think some people just watch television. ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
Okay ... ' I hurried on. 'But why me?'
'You're a girl,' Lockwood called. 'Aren't you supposed to be more sensitive?'
'To emotions, yes. To nuances of human behavior. Not necessarily to secret passages in a wall.'
'Oh, it's much the same thing. ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
All things have the appearance of solidity, but it's an illusion, a trick of perception drawn from our eternal entrapment in the present. Only memory reveals truth, yet even memory is but an eddy in your mind. ~ Todd Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Todd Lockwood
I do not believe in sex distinction in literature, law, politics, or trade - or that modesty and virtue are more becoming to women than to men, but wish we had more of it everywhere. ~ Belva Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Belva Lockwood
Easterly, a celebrated economist, presents one side in what has become an ongoing debate with fellow star-economist Jeffrey Sachs about the role of international aid in global poverty. Easterly argues that existing aid strategies have not and will not reduce poverty, because they don't seriously take into account feedback from those who need the aid and because they perpetuate western colonial tendencies. ~ Amy Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Amy Lockwood
No one can claim to be called Christian who gives money for the building of warships and arsenals. ~ Belva Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Belva Lockwood
You can only know what you know. Belief is not the same as knowledge. Belief is an assumption of knowledge despite a lack of evidence. ~ Todd Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Todd Lockwood
Insomnia is a curse most of the time, unless you're by my side.
Because then each waking minute is another I get to spend with you.
I've spoken to you so much throughout this night.
Told you so many things that I would usually be afraid to say.
How much I've missed you.
How much I need you.
But you're here beside me and I'm more relaxed because you are.
You give me confidence to tell you how I truly feel.
To tell you how much you mean to me.
I normally find it hard to express myself because, believe it or not, even one so tough as I gets all mixed up with this feeling of love that grows stronger everyday inside of me.
Love is the only thing on this planet that scares me any more, and it's amazing.
I had no idea I could feel this way about you or anyone.
That's why I've had to tell you how I fell.

I only hope I can tell you all of this when you wake up. ~ Raven Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Raven Lockwood
Most letters were love letters until they were not. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
Who among us is not the great I AM? Who among us doesn't live in a nightgown or some other bare-ass outfit at the center of his own wide sky--shining, unchanging, without beginning or end, a word in the east and a body in the west? ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
I paint the ocean - I think of its vastness - its power - its wetness. ~ Douglas Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Douglas Lockwood
I simply ate a fish-head, but fish-heads won't fill
me now. Your attention is a fish-head,
so throw it back into my new body, back
into the body climbing the stairs. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
For me, every sound has its own minute form - is composed of small flashing rhythms, shifting tones, has momentum, comes, vanishes, lives out its own structure. ~ Annea Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Annea Lockwood
Leave now and live, or stay here and die. Your choice. ~ Phillip Margolin
Lockwood quotes by Phillip Margolin
Sometimes I have thought I was lonely and it turned out I was in reality wanting a snack, just like sometimes I have thought I was mad and it turned out I was actually wearing too many sweaters. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
See men for miles around give nature what she needs,
rivers and rivers and rivers of it. You exhale with perfect
happiness. Nature turned you down in high school.
Now you can come in her eye. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
True love is taking the risk that it won't be a happily-ever-after. True love is joining hands with the man who loves you for who you are, and saying, I'm not afraid to believe in you. ~ Cara Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Cara Lockwood
No woman can be gotten with child without some knowledg, consent and delight in the acting thereof." Charles J. Hoadly, ed., Records of the Colony or Jurisdiction of New Haven, From May, 1653, to the Union (Hartford: Case, Lockwood, 1858), 123; ~ Jill Lepore
Lockwood quotes by Jill Lepore
By developing balance in your life, you will increase your energy, motivation, and your sense of satisfaction. In short, your happiness. Most people are as happy as they choose to be. May you choose to be very happy in 1998! SUCCESS to You ... ~ Gary Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Gary Lockwood
In a field where else you found a stack
of revealing nature photographs, of supernude nature
photographs, split beaver of course nature photographs,
photographs full of 70s bush, nature taking come
from every man from miles around, nature with come back
to me just dripping from her lips. The stack came
up to your eye, you saw: nature is big into bloodplay,
nature is into extreme age play, nature does wild inter-
racial, nature she wants you to pee in her mouth, nature
is dead and nature is sleeping and still nature is on all fours,
a horse it fucks nature to death up in Oregon, nature is hot
young amateur redheads, the foxes are all in their holes
for the night, nature is hot old used-up cougars, nature
makes gaping fake-agony faces, nature is consensual dad-
on-daughter, nature is completely obsessed with twins,
nature doing specialty and nature doing niche, exotic females
they line up to drip for you, nature getting paddled as hard
as you can paddle her, oh a whitewater rapid with her ass
in the air, high snowy tail on display just everywhere. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
The epiphany was simply tucked away for consideration after we were back on campus. Sometimes a revelation comes with a flash of heavenly light and a booming voice - and sometimes it is jotted in a sun-bleached spiral notebook. ~ Jeffrey A. Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Jeffrey A. Lockwood
Some find it hard to write emotively. I've had some people say to me that they simply cannot. There are two ways to try and achieve it, to either draw upon your own lives experiences or pushing your imagination into those circumstances and feeling how your heart reacts.
When I write emotively much of it comes from my own experiences and thoughts. But for some things it is not because I have experienced every emotion in my short life time already. It means I am able to imagine in my mind a given situation and feel how my heart reacts to those thoughts. Forcing myself deep into the moment of fantasy and not fearing how I feel. Some writers rely on this skill, not picturing it in their mind they are feeling it as though with their own heart even though the situation is not one they have found themselves to have been in. I believe I struggle with this, I challenge myself in some of my stories and writing that I do but I find myself favouring writing about what I know, what I have felt in my own life, love being most favoured but also excitement, worry, fear and of course sorrow. Many people will be happy to write about joy and happiness but would never write of their fears and weaknesses, feeling that for others to see you so exposed in a raw state of emotion adds to the agony of the original event you are writing about. Especially those who want to be seen as strong all the time, they worry that so show any emotion other than strength of positivity is weakness. This façade ~ Raven Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Raven Lockwood
Mr Lockwood, you've impressed a lot of people over the years. Personally, I expected you to be ghost-touched long ago, but your agency has flourished. Impress me again now... Let them forget about you... Even now, it's probably not too late. - Inspector Barnes ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
As they perform this ritual, I almost have to turn away, thinking again what a boomeranging, out-of-body experience it is to watch a religious childhood from the outside, when before I was in the very marrow of it. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
When we came home later, my father was wearing his most transparent pair of boxer shorts, to show us he was angry, and drinking Baileys Irish Cream liqueur out of a miniature crystal glass, to show us his heart was broken. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
Grant that I may radiate Thy Light, Thy Love,
Thy Healing, Thy Joy, and Thy Peace
to all those around me
and all those in my thoughts
this day and ever more. ~ Jonathan Lockwood Huie
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Lockwood Huie
You can create a CGColor directly using Core Graphics methods if you prefer, but using UIColor saves you from having to manually release the color when you no longer need it. Listing ~ Nick Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Nick Lockwood
My father despises cats. He believes them to be Democrats. He considers them to be little mean hillary clintons covered all over with feminist legfur. Cats would have abortions, if given half a chance. Cats would have abortions for fun. Consequently our own soft sinner, a soulful snowshoe named Alice, will stay shut in the bedroom upstairs, padding back and forth on cashmere paws, campaigning for equal pay, educating me about my reproductive system, and generally plotting the downfall of all men. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
Dads didn't care about lightning, because lightning was on the cover of all their favorite albums. Sometimes it was painted on their trucks as well. You could tell that if their kids were killed by lightning, they would be sad, but they would also feel superior about it for the rest of their lives, because it was without question the most hard-as way for a child to die. "My son Randy . . ." they would say, their voices trailing, "taken from us by pure electricity in the year Nineteen Hundred and Ninety . . . ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
Oh, we'll suffer in silence. You've given us plenty of practice at that. ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
I never told my love vocally still. ~ Emily Bronte
Lockwood quotes by Emily Bronte
His rapier was at his belt, glittering as he swung. He reached down, ripped the sword clear.
I jumped over a slashing frond of plasm, spun round with the water bottle in my hand. I hurled it across to Lockwood.
George threw his rapier to me.
Watch this now. Sword and bottle, sailing through the air, twin trajectories, arching beautifully through the mass of swirling tendrils towards Lockwood and me. Lockwood held out his hand. I held out mine.
Remember I said there was that moment of sweet precision when we gelled perfectly as a team?
Yeah, well. This wasn't it.
The rapier shot past, missing me by miles. It skidded halfway across the floor. The bottle struck Lockwood plumb in the centre of his forehead, knocking him through the window.
There was a moment's pause.
'Is he dead?' the skulls voice said 'Yay! Oh. No, he's hanging onto the shutters. Shame. Still, this is defiantly the funniest thing I've ever seen. You three really are incompetence on a stick ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
[Belva] Lockwood sought more than suffrage. She urged full political and civil rights for all women. Though she could not vote for president, she twice ran for the office herself, pointing out that nothing in the Constitution barred a woman's candidacy. (She took that bold step 124 years before Hillary Rodham Clinton first became a contender for the Democratic Party's nomination.) Explaining why she entered the race, she wrote in a letter to her future running mate, Marietta Stow: 'We shall never have equal rights until we take them, nor equal respect until we command it. ~ Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Lockwood quotes by Ruth Bader Ginsburg
I'm a typical California boy. ~ Gary Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Gary Lockwood
I am one with the Earth, with the Water, with the Fire, with the Air that I breathe, with all Living Things, and we are all one with Spirit. ~ Jonathan Lockwood Huie
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Lockwood Huie
We can't abolish prejudice through laws ... ~ Belva Ann Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Belva Ann Lockwood
Economist and Africa expert Collier analyzes why a group of 50 nations, home to the poorest one billion people, are failing. Considering issues such as civil war, dependence on extractive industries, and bad governance, he argues that the strongest industrialized countries must enact a plan to help with international policies and standards. ~ Amy Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Amy Lockwood
I was a hurricane. A
swirling blackness, no substance of my own but the remnants of the chaos and destruction I had caused was interwoven within my own fabric.
Then like the sunshine bursting through the dissipating clouds after an April shower, the rain drops audibly slowed to a silence, she settled me.
That was not the expectation.
Her soothing effect on me.
My heart.
My mind.
My feelings. ~ Raven Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Raven Lockwood
A wonderful gift may not be wrapped as you expect. ~ Jonathan Lockwood Huie
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Lockwood Huie
I don't watch television. I'm not a TV guy. ~ Gary Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Gary Lockwood
Design thinking can be described as a discipline that uses the designer's sensibility and methods to match people's needs with what is technologically feasible and what a viable business strategy can convert into customer value and market opportunity. ~ Thomas Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Thomas Lockwood
The modern world is drowning in information. We have more data than we can possibly use regarding nearly every picayune matter of society, economics, and politics. Science has contributed to this tsunami of facts and figures, but Riley's reports demonstrated that the tidal wave of minutiae is hardly unique to our time. In every age the challenge has been to move from information to knowledge. And the value of experts lies in their capacity to extract meaning from the reams of facts. Rather than being swamped by raw data, the connoisseur, craftsman, engineer, clinician, or scientist is selectively and self-consciously blind. Knowing what to ignore, recognizing what is extraneous, is the key to deriving pattern, form, and insight. ~ Jeffrey A. Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Jeffrey A. Lockwood
Lockwood gave a sudden exclamation; when I looked at him, his eyes were shining. 'On second thoughts, we can scrap my last suggestion,' he said. 'Stuff the mingling. Who wants to do that? Boring. George - this library. Where is it? ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
STANFORD LOCKWOOD
WORLD'S BEST FATHER ~ Lauren Kate
Lockwood quotes by Lauren Kate
May the world be kind to you, and may your own thoughts be gentle upon yourself. ~ Jonathan Lockwood Huie
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Lockwood Huie
There - the chandelier, choked with dust and webs. A single rivulet of red had trickled from the ceiling, down the central column, and out along a curving crystal arm. At its lowest point, a new pendant of blood was slowly building.
'It - it can't do that,' I stammered. 'We're inside the iron.'
'Move out of the way!' Lockwood pushed me back just as the drop fell, spattering on the floor in the center of the circle. We were all standing almost atop the iron chains. 'We've made it too big,' he said. 'The power of the iron doesn't extend into the very center. It's weak there, and this Visitor's strong enough to overcome it.'
'Adjust the chains inward-' George began.
'If we make the circle smaller,' Lockwood said, 'we'll be squeezed in a tiny space. It's scarcely midnight; we've seven hours till dawn and this thing's just gotten started. No, we've got to break out ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
What is it that you think about just before you get a condom? Sex! ~ Amy Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Amy Lockwood
At Lockwood & Co., George was famous for not being able to throw or catch with any accuracy. Back in the kitchen at Portland Row, even the casual passing out of fruit or bags of chips became an exercise fraught with danger. ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
If nations could only depend upon fair and impartial judgments in a world court of law, they would abandon the senseless, savage practice of war. ~ Belva Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Belva Lockwood
Today is your day to paint life in bold colors;
set today's rhythm with your heart-drum;
walk today's march with courage;
create today as your celebration of life. ~ Jonathan Lockwood Huie
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Lockwood Huie
The common ground where the activities of God and man become one is the motive of perfect love; for in the last resolve love is the essence of God's nature. When he thinks, love is his thought; when he wills, love is the product of his will. To the degree, therefore, that man thinks and wills the good
to the degree that he realizes love in his finite dealings
he interfuses himself with God. ~ Frank C. Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Frank C. Lockwood
The skull's…spirit? He…he looks different."
The youth scowled. "Yeah? You look just the same. I was banking on frostbite taking a few of your fingers, or even your nose. Here's hoping something else has dropped off that I don't know about. If not, I'll be sorely disappointed."
Lockwood stared. "Does he always talk like this?"
"No. Usually he's worse. See what I have to put up with? ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
I've missed you so much, Savannah. I want to tell you now that we're both back in Georgia, I'm going to do what I have to, to win you back."
She gasped. " What?"
"I said, I'm going to win you back." He moved in closer. "I've never stopped loving you, and I know you still care about me. I will do what I can to bring what you felt for me back to life, and when I am done, I plan to make you my wife. ~ Tressie Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Tressie Lockwood
I'ts how I want to remember him, the way he was that night: with horrors up ahead and horrors at our back, and Lockwood standing in between them, calm and unafraid. ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
It's better to put yourself out there and get hurt than to never take the chance at all. ~ Cara Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Cara Lockwood
The ultimate fact of the universe is love; and its sway is all-comprehensive, and absolutely certain of final victory. ~ Frank C. Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Frank C. Lockwood
Men always say, "Let's see what you can do." If we always talk and never work we will not accomplish anything. ~ Belva Ann Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Belva Ann Lockwood
His face was uniquely slapable - a nun would have ached to punch him - while his backside cried out to heaven for a well-placed kick. ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
Should I rejoice in the inferiority of my fate?" - John Lockwood ~ Noorilhuda
Lockwood quotes by Noorilhuda
There's no law against a sentence existing in two places at once, unlike humans, who are no longer allowed to bilocate because it confuses the cops too much. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
Focus on quality of life, and enjoy a life worth living. Researchers have said that only 4% of people enjoy both their work and their personal life. ~ Gary Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Gary Lockwood
Her cowardice had been re-branded as self-preservation, and she was grateful for it. ~ Jayne Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Jayne Lockwood
Whenever someone says the word "month" to me, I call up an empty square filled with other empty squares, days, and hours and minutes, bricks on bricks spiraling inward, pinwheel and diamond, and herringbone patterns marching smaller and smaller to some vanishing point. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
Moyo, a Zambia-born economist, asserts that aid is not only ineffective-it's harmful. Her argument packs a strong punch because she was born and raised in Africa. Moyo believes aid money promotes the corruption of governments and the dependence of citizens, and advocates that an investment approach will do more to help reduce poverty than aid ever could. ~ Amy Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Amy Lockwood
I hope no one will think of ... sending me to Pearl Harbor. ~ Charles A. Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Charles A. Lockwood
All my life I have overheard, all my life I have listened to what people will let slip when they think you are part of their we. A we is so powerful. It is the most corrupt and formidable institution on earth. Its hands are full of the crispest and most persuasive currency. Its mouth is full of received, repeating language. The we closes its ranks to protect the space inside it, where the air is different. It does not protect people. It protects its own shape. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
How do god fit him ass in them jeans when he is, in fact, Everywhere ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
What did those people teach you?" he asked me one night, mystified. "What exactly do Catholics believe?"

I'd been preparing my whole life for this question. "First of all, blood. BLOOD. Second of all, thorns. Third of all, put dirt on your forehead. Do it right now. Fourth of all, Martin Luther was a pig in a cloak. Fifth of all, Jesus is alive, but he's also dead, and he's also immortal, but he's also made of clouds, and his face is a picture of infinite peace, but he also always looks like one of those men in a headache commercial, because you'rec causing him so much suffering whenever you cuss. He is so gentle that sheep seem like demented murderers in his presence, but also rays of sunlight shoot out of his face so hard they can kill people. In fact, they do kill people, and one day they will kill you. He has a tattoo of a daisy on his lower back and he gets his hair permed every eight weeks. He's wearing a flowing white dress, but only because people didn't know about jeans back then. He's holding up two fingers because his dad won't let him have a gun. If he lived on earth, he would have a white truck, plastered with bumper stickers of Calvin peeing on a smaller Calvin who is not a Catholic."

Jason was aghast. "Thorns?" he whispered. "But that's the most dangerous part of the rose. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
Joy blooms where minds and hearts are open. ~ Jonathan Lockwood Huie
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Lockwood Huie
Ecology is beginning to slowly shift focus with tentative explorations of what the world would look like if process, rather than matter were the basis for reality What if we defined a species in terms of its life processes? We might seriously doubt whether the California condor or the tall grass prairie can be 'saved' or even 'restored.' Perhaps we can re-create some local conditions that foster a few nests of condors or a few acres of prairie. But the life process of the condor ended with the urbanization of the California foothills and the living ebb and flow of the tall grass prairies died with the plowing of the Great Plains. What if we suggested that a thing is what it does? In this light, the Rocky Mountain locust was a immense aperiodic energy flow that linked life processes on a continental scale.

This notion of life-as-process might seem unusual in a society in which material existence is primary. But such a perception informs our deepest understanding of life. Indeed, life-as-process underlies our notion of euthanasia. When loved ones are simply bodies, devoid of the capacity to care, respond, or relate again a away that we can recognize as being "them," we understand that they are gone even before they are dead. ~ Jeffrey A. Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Jeffrey A. Lockwood
The question for someone who was raised in a closed circle and then leaves it, is what is the us, and what is the them, and how do you ever move from one to the other? ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
A trick I often use, when I feel overwhelming shame or regret, or brokenness beyond repair, is to think of a line I especially love, or a poem that arrived like lightning, and remember that it wouldn't have come to me if anything in my life had happened differently. Not that way. Not in those words. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
No dates until you're sixteen. And no boyfriends, either.' I'm not quite sure how to tell Mom, but it looks like I don't just have one boyfriend. I have two. ~ Cara Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Cara Lockwood
Lockwood didn't speak until everything was quiet again. "I know you're worrying about me, Luce," he said. "But you really mustn't. These things happen when you're an agent. You've been snared by ghosts in the past, haven't you? There was the one that made the bloody footprints, and the thing in the tunnels below the Aickmere Brothers store. But it's fine, because I helped you then, and you've helped me now. We're there to help each other. If we do that, we'll get through." Which was a lovely thing to say, and it made me feel a little warmer. I just had to hope it was true. ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
I sometimes wish my childhood had been less obsessed with the question of why we are here. But that must be the question of any childhood. To write about your mother and father is to tell the story of your own close call, to count all the ways you never should have existed. To write about home is to write about how you dropped from space, dragging ellipses behind you like a comet, and how you entered your country and state and city, and finally your four-cornered house, and finally your mother's body and finally your own. From the galaxy to the grain and back again. From the fingerprint to the grand design. Despite all the conspiracies of the universe, we are here; every moment we are here we arrive. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
I found my flashlight where I'd dropped it on the bricks, but the bulb had broken. Lockwood's was gone, and George's seemed dimmer than before.
'Save it,' Lockwood said. He brought out candles and distributed them between us; when lit, their flames were mustard-yellow, tall, and strong. 'They'll be a good indicator of psychic build-up, too,' he said. 'Keep your eye on them.'
'Shame we can't use caged cats, like Tom Rotwell did,' George remarked. 'They're the most sensitive indicator of all, apparently - *if* you can stand the yowling. ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
So many people share every last detail of their life on social media, every last crumb of information laid our before the world, or rather anyone interested in reading it. What they ate for lunch, what they watched on TV, what they bought to wear for the summer, countless images of their world, and their morning coffee. That's fine, play on, that is their choice, I merely prefer to retain an element of mystery. To keep some of my life my own. Sharing myself only fully with those whom I want to. Giving myself to those who will see it as the gift it truly is. A gift of self. For then they know, they mean something to me. ~ Raven Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Raven Lockwood
Of the first few hauntings I investigated with Lockwood & Co. I intend to say little, in part to protect the identity of the victims, in part because of the gruesome nature of the incidents, but mainly because, in a variety of ingenious ways, we succeeded in messing them all up. ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
What have they done to your poor arm?' - Holly
'Oh, don't worry, it's just a graze.' - Lucy
'I'm talking about the bandages. That's simply the most incompetent bit of first aid I've ever seen. Lockwood, George - how much dressing did you use? ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
This is the way it was with Lockwood, his shifts were sometimes so sudden that they took your breath away. But his energy and enthusiasm were always impossible to resist. ~ Jonathan Stroud
Lockwood quotes by Jonathan Stroud
I'm not interested in heaven unless my anger gets to go there too. I'm not interested in a happy eternity unless I get to spend an eternity on anger first. Let me speak for the meek and say that we don't want the earth, if that's where all the bodies are buried. If we are resurrected at the end of the world, I want us to assemble with a military click, I want us to come together as an army against what happened to us here. I want us to bring down the enemy of our suffering once and for all, and I want us to loot the pockets, and I want us to take baths in the blood. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
There is a section in all our minds where the memories don't just get stored, they get engraved. They sit behind a sign that says 'Do Not Delete'. Although who put the sign there, I do not know.
The problem is we can't seem to control what goes in there. For as well as the gloriously high happy moments, the lowest most hurtful sad sorrowful ones get sucked in also. It's the place our minds wander to when we're tired or idle. It's not always a happy place to go.
But I think I have found my solution.
I flood my mind with memories and images of you. Even if you're doing nothing more than sipping your morning coffee, in the hope that with enough thought the sad memories will fall from prominence, obscured by those more positive.
So the next time you catch me staring glossy eyed at you and you ask me what I'm thinking.. and I answer 'nothing', you know what I'm doing. ~ Raven Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Raven Lockwood
IRWIN: At the time of the Reformation there were fourteen foreskins of Christ preserved, but it was thought that the church of St John Lateran in Rome had the authentic prepuce.
DAKIN: Don't think we're shocked by your mention of the word 'foreskin', sir.
CROWTHER: No, sir. Some of us even have them.
LOCKWOOD: Not Posner, though, sir. Posner's like, you know, Jewish.
It's one of several things Posner doesn't have.
(Posner mouths 'fuck off.') ~ Alan Bennett
Lockwood quotes by Alan Bennett
We worshipped a great white body that was an avalanche of good news, and we slit it open in every part. "That can't go through the mail," the postman gasped, "because that is a super-stabbed body!" The super-stabbed body rose up, with many butterknives sticking out of it, and said, "I AM the mail." It had so many lovers. ~ Patricia Lockwood

The half of her that is underwater would like to be
under a desk, the head of her that is underwater
would like to be fully immersed. ~ Patricia Lockwood
Lockwood quotes by Patricia Lockwood
She read about amazing people she could never be, met friends she would never see, go on incredible adventures she would never have, in mystical places that didn't exist. Slipping inside the minds of others, feeling their every heartbeat, their passion and sorrow. Spending a life hopping between the pages, living a life less ordinary. Getting the life she had always dreamed of had never been so easy. ~ Raven Lockwood

If what we're really trying to do is stop the spread of HIV, we need to think about the customer. ~ Amy Lockwood

What do you love?
If I asked you, I already know what you would say. You would roll of many answers, you love your parents, you love your children, you love your pets, your home. You love to read, you'd list the books, to write, you love the sun on a warm day, you love music, you'd list the songs, you love art, meals, you love holidays.
Then when you've finished I'd tell you that you have missed something, the most important thing of all.
How long would it be, on a list of things you love to say that you love yourself? ~ Raven Lockwood
