We have to make their livelihoods viable, get them the proper prices for their produce, try and make them stay rather than sell their property and leave again. ~ Paddy Ashdown
Livelihood quotes by Paddy Ashdown
My livelihood depends on my surface beauty, but when I wash my face, I see a real person there. ~ Marie Helvin
Livelihood quotes by Marie Helvin
We seem to have forgotten that the expression "a liberal education" originally meant among the Romans one worthy of free men; while the learning of trades and professions by which to get your livelihood merely, was considered worthy of slaves only. But taking a hint from the word, I would go a step further and say, that it is not the man of wealth and leisure simply, though devoted to art, or science, or literature, who, in a true sense, is liberally educated, but only the earnest and free man. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Livelihood quotes by Henry David Thoreau
Perhaps the chief cause which has retarded the progress of poetry in America, is the want of that exclusive cultivation, which so noble a branch of literature would seem to require. Few here think of relying upon the exertion of poetic talent for a livelihood, and of making literature the profession of life. The bar or the pulpit claims the greater part of the scholar's existence, and poetry is made its pastime. ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Livelihood quotes by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
My parents told me that if I became a musician, perhaps I'll lose the ability to make a livelihood. But, I became a musician anyway. Among other things, there are differences and similarities in people which I believe one has to consider in order to even come up with a rough judgment of that person. I could say some people are born to be attracted to certain things. Therefore, I don't really have a reason (as to why I am so attracted to a music career)."
- Leda (DELUHI) ~ Leda Deluhi
Livelihood quotes by Leda Deluhi
Mindfulness is an invitation to change that pattern and to become aware of where we are and how we got here. Mindfulness gives us a chance to listen to the wisdom of our hearts, to notice with more clarity where we get in our own way, and to shift from reacting out of habit to responding from our intentions. ~ Maia Duerr
Livelihood quotes by Maia Duerr
To maintain nice relation with the people is half of intelligence, nice questioning is half of knowledge, and nice domestic arrangements is half of the management of livelihood. ~ Ali Ibn Abi Talib
Livelihood quotes by Ali Ibn Abi Talib
To gain a livelihood at the expense of all that makes life worth the having. ~ Juvenal
Livelihood quotes by Juvenal
All our contemporary philosophers perhaps without knowing it are looking through eyeglasses that Baruch Spinoza polished. Spinoza was a philosopher who earned his livelihood by grinding lenses. ~ Heinrich Heine
Livelihood quotes by Heinrich Heine
It is a political fight between a group of well-financed, well-organized people whose freedom, livelihood, finances, reputations, or liberty is being threatened by disclosures of child sexual abuse and--on the other hand--a group of well-meaning, ill-organized, underfinanced, and often terribly naive academics who expect fair play. ~ Anna C. Salter
Livelihood quotes by Anna C. Salter
Skating was put on the map, supposedly from me Everybody made a life and a livelihood, um, except me. ~ Tonya Harding
Livelihood quotes by Tonya Harding
Work is a mess" encourages us to first recognize that we can never have a completely neat relationship with our livelihood. Treating work's messiness as if it were a mistake or liability only creates further unnecessary distress and resentment. By developing the attitude that work is a mess, we can learn to relax and be curious about the surprises and interruptions. By engaging the messiness of work directly - appreciating both the advantages and disadvantages - we become fully equipped to engage such events in all their variations. ~ Michael Carroll
Livelihood quotes by Michael Carroll
You can't fight progress. The best you can do is ignore it, until it finally takes your livelihood and self-respect away. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
Livelihood quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
Let's have some precision in language here: terrorism means deadly violence -- for a political and/or economical purpose -- carried out against people and other living things, and is usually conducted by governments against their own citizens (as at Kent State, or in Vietnam, or in Poland, or in most of Latin America right now), or by corporate entities such as J. Paul Getty, Exxon, Mobil Oil, etc etc., against the land and all creatures that depend upon the land for life and livelihood. A bulldozer ripping up a hillside to strip mine for coal is committing terrorism; the damnation of a flowing river followed by the drowning of Cherokee graves, of forest and farmland, is an act of terrorism.
Sabotage, on the other hand, means the use of force against inanimate property, such as machinery, which is being used (e.g.) to deprive human beings of their rightful work (as in the case of Ned Ludd and his mates); sabotage (le sabot dropped in a spinning jenny) -- for whatever purpose -- has never meant and has never implied the use of violence against living creatures. ~ Edward Abbey
Livelihood quotes by Edward Abbey
No, but Liza took went and took away from me, possibly my livelihood. ~ David Gest
Livelihood quotes by David Gest
When people feel left out, left behind, and left without options, the deep void will be filled by anger and resentment or depression and despair about those who supposedly took away their livelihood or cut in line.
Trump brilliantly tapped into all these feelings. ~ Hillary Rodham Clinton
Livelihood quotes by Hillary Rodham Clinton
It's risky to allow radiation to constantly go up into the atmosphere. The main criticism of this approach of entombing it is that it would cost too much, involve too many resources and people. But think of the cost of having all the crops impounded by the government, all the milk being thrown into the river, people's livelihoods destroyed. ~ Michio Kaku
Livelihood quotes by Michio Kaku
I think the work in front of us is the first work task given our forbearers, which is to care for the garden. Now because it's the first thing commanded, maybe it's the first thing forgotten. But it is the first admonition and it is absolutely unequivocal. It is part of right livelihood. ~ Wes Jackson
Livelihood quotes by Wes Jackson
One of the causes of unhappiness among intellectuals in the present day is that so many of them, especially those whose skill is literary, find no opportunity for the independent exercise of their talents, but have to hire themselves out to rich corporations directed by Philistines, who insist upon their producing what they themselves regard as pernicious nonsense. If you were to inquire among journalists in either England or America whether they believed in the policy of the newspaper for which they worked, you would find, I believe, that only a small minority do so; the rest, for the sake of a livelihood, prostitute their skill to purposes which they believe to be harmful. Such work cannot bring any real satisfaction, and in the course of reconciling himself to the doing of it, a man has to make himself so cynical that he can no longer derive whole-hearted satisfaction from anything whatever. I cannot condemn men who undertake work of this sort, since starvation is too serious an alternative, but I think that where it is possible to do work that is satisfactory to man's constructive impulses without entirely starving, he will be well advised from the point of view of his own happiness if he chooses it in preference to work much more highly paid but not seeming to him worth doing on its own account. Without self-respect genuine happiness is scarcely possible. And the man who is ashamed of his work can hardly achieve self-respect. ~ Bertrand Russell
Livelihood quotes by Bertrand Russell
In many areas, too, people are having to deal with environmental problems and, with these, threats to their livelihood and worse. At the same time, many others are struggling t get by in the face of inequality, corruption, and injustice. ~ Dalai Lama XIV
Livelihood quotes by Dalai Lama XIV
As you consider how to take your next step toward a Liberation-Based Livelihood, often the first decision you need to consider is: Can I transform my current job into a vehicle for expressing my Core Intention? Or do I need to let go of it altogether?

This crossroads place is full of potential, and it can go in so many directions - not all of them positive! Bringing mindful awareness into the process greatly increases the possibility that you'll make a healthy decision rather than a reactive one. As I shared in my own story, for many years I tended to leap out of unsatisfactory work situations very quickly. My unhappiness usually followed me into the next job, only to manifest there in new ways.

A good starting point to figure out if it's time to leave your job is to consider if it's harmful to yourself and/or to others. If the answer is "yes," start planning your exit strategy as soon as possible. ~ Maia Duerr
Livelihood quotes by Maia Duerr
The poor ignorant fellah [Arabic for peasant] does not worry about politics, but when he is told repeatedly by people in whom he has confidence that his livelihood is in danger of being taken away from him by us, he becomes our mortal enemy ... The Arab is primitive and believes what he is told. ~ Chaim Weizmann
Livelihood quotes by Chaim Weizmann
We need affordable childcare and paid sick leave so workers don't have to choose between their health and their livelihood. ~ Jackie Speier
Livelihood quotes by Jackie Speier
For better or worse, we are the Court of Appeals for the Hollywood Circuit. Millions of people toil in the shadow of the law we make, and much of their livelihood is made possible by the existence of intellectual property rights. But much of their livelihood - and much of the vibrancy of our culture - also depends on the existence of other intangible rights: The right to draw ideas from a rich and varied public domain, and the right to mock, for profit as well as fun, the cultural icons of our time. ~ Alex Kozinski
Livelihood quotes by Alex Kozinski
Lifestyle and livelihood are pivotal moral issues. ~ Stephanie Mills
Livelihood quotes by Stephanie Mills
I always felt that I had anxiety of survival in terms of livelihood even when I was making plenty of money. ~ Leonard Baskin
Livelihood quotes by Leonard Baskin
If you're a director, your entire livelihood and your entire creativity is based on your self-confidence. Sometimes that's dangerously close to arrogance. ~ Trevor Nunn
Livelihood quotes by Trevor Nunn
I am also convinced that one gains the purest joy from spirited things only when they are not tied in with earning one's livelihood. ~ Albert Einstein
Livelihood quotes by Albert Einstein
Lil' Kim is my stage name and a character I use when I'm out working my livelihood. ~ Lil' Kim
Livelihood quotes by Lil' Kim
I am not fighting machinery as such, but the madness of thinking that machinery saves labor. Men save labor until thousands of them are without work and die of hunger on the streets. I want to secure employment and livelihood not only to part of the human race, but for all. I will not have the enrichment of a few at the expense of the community. At present the machine is helping a small minority to live on the exploitation of the masses. The motive force of this minority is not humanity or love of their kind, but greed and avarice. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Livelihood quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
My livelihood depends on the art of animators. ~ Andy Serkis
Livelihood quotes by Andy Serkis
Before it is science and career, before it is livelihood, before even it is family or love, freedom is sound sleep and safety to notice the play of morning sun. ~ Richard Rhodes
Livelihood quotes by Richard Rhodes
Prostitution requires for its diminution not only laws, well enforced, to abolish the traffic in womanhood; not only better social protection against harpies who seduce young girls seeking an honest livelihood; not only better chaperonage of young girls in exposed occupations; not only better opportunities for natural enjoyment of youthful pleasure under morally safe conditions; not only these - but most of all, greater power on the part of the average young girl to earn her own support under right conditions and for a living wage. ~ Anna Garlin Spencer
Livelihood quotes by Anna Garlin Spencer
For the mob, habituated to feed at the expense of others, and to have its hopes of a livelihood in the property of its neighbors, as soon as it has got a leader sufficiently ambitious and daring, being excluded by poverty from the sweets of civil honors, produces a reign of mere violence. ~ Polybius
Livelihood quotes by Polybius
Their faith is not an Islamic one, but a satanic one. The threat of ISIS is a threat to the livelihood of every sensible person on the planet, and in its crosshairs is the faith of the world's two billion Christians and nearly all of its Muslims, Jews, Hindus, and Buddhists. If they have their way, you won't live another day. ~ Johnnie Moore
Livelihood quotes by Johnnie Moore
He returned the money with a graceful letter saying that he had found a means of livelihood which would supply him with all his needs. At the moment he had three francs in the world. ~ Victor Hugo
Livelihood quotes by Victor Hugo
It is more important to find out what you are giving to society than to ask what is the right means of livelihood. ~ Jiddu Krishnamurti
Livelihood quotes by Jiddu Krishnamurti
The young and the old are defenseless against relatives who want to get rid of them by casting them in the role of mental patient, and against psychiatrists whose livelihood depends on defining them as mentally ill. ~ Thomas Szasz
Livelihood quotes by Thomas Szasz
Displaced workers, along with others who fear for their livelihood, are fertile ground in which to sow anti-immigrant sentiment, since angry and frustrated people often seek some target on which to blame their problems. The right wing has organized and manipulated such anger and resentment, turned it away from corporations, and directed it against the government, decrying high taxes and the inability of the state to solve problems such as social deterioration, homelessness, crime, and violence. In addition to the target of "failed liberal policies," immigrants make a convenient and tangible target for people's anger. Racial prejudice is often an encoded part of the message…Right-wing populist themes are particularly effective at attracting working people disenchanted with the system. ~ Robert Wald Sussman
Livelihood quotes by Robert Wald Sussman
Playing characters that speak a very violent language was my livelihood. ~ Greg Bryk
Livelihood quotes by Greg Bryk
These masters of the universe must be tamed in the interests of the ordinary families whose jobs and livelihoods are being put at risk ... The Tories won't say anything about the current crisis as they are completely in the pockets of the hedge funds. ~ Vince Cable
Livelihood quotes by Vince Cable
I spent my life - all my life - learning to wrestle. It's the only means of livelihood I've ever had and, uh, the only gimmick that I have in wrestling is wrestling. ~ Lou Thesz
Livelihood quotes by Lou Thesz
The Noble Eight-Fold Path is the path of living in awareness. Mindfulness is the foundation. By practicing mindfulness, you can develop concentration, which enables you to attain understanding. Thanks to right concentration, you realize right awareness, thoughts, speech, action, livelihood and effort. The understanding which develops can liberate you from every shackle of suffering and give birth to true peace and joy. ~ Nhat Hanh
Livelihood quotes by Nhat Hanh
It would be inaccurate, however, to say that my childhood was untroubled. The normal fears and worries of every child were in me developed to a high degree; every day was an awesome prospect. I was uneasy about practically everything: the uncertainty of the future, the dark of the attic, the panoply and discipline of school, the transitoriness of life, the mystery of the church and of God, the frailty of the body, the sadness of afternoon, the shadow of sex, the distant challenge of love and marriage, the far-off problem of a livelihood. ~ Bret Lott
Livelihood quotes by Bret Lott
Most of the Indians, particularly those living on the coasts and in the hotter climates, were given to unnatural lusts. To such a dreadful degree was this practised, that men even went about in female garments, and made a livelihood by their diabolical and cursed lewdness. ~ Bernal Diaz Del Castillo
Livelihood quotes by Bernal Diaz Del Castillo
I hope there will be no effort to put up a shaft or any monument of that sort in memory of me or of the other women who have giventhemselves to our work. The best kind of a memorial would be a school where girls could be taught everything useful that would help them to earn an honorable livelihood; where they could learn to do anything they were capable of, just as boys can. I would like to have lived to see such a school as that in every great city of the United States. ~ Susan B. Anthony
Livelihood quotes by Susan B. Anthony
The few own the many because they possess the means of livelihood of all ... The country is governed for the richest, for the corporations, the bankers, the land speculators, and for the exploiters of labor. The majority of mankind are working people. So long as their fair demands - the ownership and control of their livelihoods - are set at naught, we can have neither men's rights nor women's rights. The majority of mankind is ground down by industrial oppression in order that the small remnant may live in ease. ~ Helen Keller
Livelihood quotes by Helen Keller
I print giclees for artists and photographers for a livelihood. My original idea was to somehow combine the two. ~ Donald Lambert
Livelihood quotes by Donald Lambert
Even if I could not earn a penny from my writing, I would earn my livelihood at something else and continue to write at night. ~ Irving Wallace
Livelihood quotes by Irving Wallace
It is best to work, at whatever you have a talent for doing, without turning your greedy thought toward what some other man possesses, but take care of your own livelihood, as I advise you. ~ Hesiod
Livelihood quotes by Hesiod
I beg that, chiefest of all, you will remember constantly that not to share our own riches with the poor is a robbery of the poor, and a depriving them of their livelihood; and that that which we possess is not only our own, but also theirs. ~ St John Chrysostom
Livelihood quotes by St John Chrysostom
The Supreme cult does not bear any relationship with the ordinary course of life. The physical body, after attainment of the Supreme Cult will remain as it was before. It will feel pleasure and pain as it used to do. One must be earning his honest livelihood. It is only possible for a man without the least tinge of desire that 'to see God is for the sake of seeing God' and 'to attain God is for the sake of attaining God' only." - Sri Jibankrishna ~ Jibankrishna
Livelihood quotes by Jibankrishna
I write humor the way a surgeon operates, because it is a livelihood, because I have a great urge to do it, because many interesting challenges are set up, and because I have the hope it may do some good. ~ James Thurber
Livelihood quotes by James Thurber
Whether it's the waitress who brings steaming hot food to a table of hungry people or the janitor who keeps an office clean and free of germs, each of us have the power to deliver joy and happiness to the people around us through the work we do. ~ Alex Kakuyo
Livelihood quotes by Alex Kakuyo
Whatever your favorite kind of resistance is, it is likely to go into full bloom as you start making changes to your livelihood because this is an area that is linked with survival (our job is what pays our bills) as well as identity (our job is how we define ourselves). As a matter of fact, the more resistance you encounter, the more likely that you're hitting paydirt in your transformational process. ~ Maia Duerr
Livelihood quotes by Maia Duerr
The U.S. and Iraq will work together next year to shift Iraqi resources from unproductive subsidies to productive uses that enable Iraqis to earn livelihoods. ~ Zalmay Khalilzad
Livelihood quotes by Zalmay Khalilzad
Is it not necessary for each to know for oneself what is the right means of livelihood? If we were avaricious, envious, seeking power, then our means of livelihood will correspond to our inward demands and so produce a world of competition, ruthlessness, oppression, ultimately ending in war. ~ Jiddu Krishnamurti
Livelihood quotes by Jiddu Krishnamurti
Are you like all other men after all? The poor should have no justice, just as they have no food, no decent shelter, no regular livelihood? Is that how your saviour Jesus treated the poor? ~ Jeanette Winterson
Livelihood quotes by Jeanette Winterson
Want to get more done? Keep meditation #1 on your to-do list. ~ Waylon H. Lewis
Livelihood quotes by Waylon H. Lewis
I swear ... to hold my teacher in this art equal to my own parents; to make him partner in my livelihood; when he is in need of money to share mine with him; to consider his family as my own brothers and to teach them this art, if they want to learn it, without fee or indenture. ~ Hippocrates
Livelihood quotes by Hippocrates
Poets have recently been misappropriating words in order to describe poetry as an economy that, outside the poem itself, has little to do with the dominance of the market but nearly everything to do with the dominance of the state. Across the United States poets have turned to economic models from a basic need to articulatea value for a livelihood dedicated, in whole or in part, to the poetic process. Their wages cannot, of course, be determined in the bear market for free verse.Popular neglect makes it easy for poets to assume that poetry is a gift and not a commodity. Too often they ignore the state's role as mediator between gift and market through the system of grants and copyright. ~ Keneth Warren
Livelihood quotes by Keneth Warren
He continues to teach because it provides him with a livelihood; also because it teaches him humility, brings it home to him who he is in the world. The irony does not escape him: that the one who comes to teach learns the keenest of lessons, while those who come to learn learn nothing. ~ J.M. Coetzee
Livelihood quotes by J.M. Coetzee
In every Indigenous community I've been in, they absolutely do want community infrastructure and they do want development, but they want it on their own terms. They want to be able to use their national resources and their assets in a way that protects and sustains them. Our territories are our wealth, the major assets we have. And Indigenous people use and steward this property so that they can achieve and maintain a livelihood, and achieve and maintain that same livelihood for future generations. ~ Rebecca Adamson
Livelihood quotes by Rebecca Adamson
Instead of inflicting these horrible punishments, it would be far more to the point to provide everyone with some means of livelihood, so that nobody's under the frightful necessity of becoming first a thief and then a corpse. ~ Thomas More
Livelihood quotes by Thomas More
[...] nothing comes from comfort but the fear of losing it, and that's exactly where my generation made its big mistake. Yet discomfort's no good either. There's just no winning, is there? Do it one way and lose your soul; do it the other way and lose your livelihood. You guys who run the world, you've got all the bases covered. ~ D.R. Haney
Livelihood quotes by D.R. Haney
People often become scholars for the same reason they become soldiers: simply because they are unfit for any other station. Their right hand has to earn them a livelihood; one might say they lie down like bears in winter and seek sustenance from their paws. ~ Georg C. Lichtenberg
Livelihood quotes by Georg C. Lichtenberg
The central ceremony of Ritual Witchcraft was the so-called "Sabbath" - a word of unknown origin having no relation to its Hebrew homonym. Sabbaths were celebrated four times a year - on Candlemass Day, February 2nd, on Rood Mass Day, May 1st, on Lammas Day, August 1st, and on the eve of All Hallows, October 31st. These were great festivals, often attended by hundreds of devotees, who came from considerable distances. Between Sabbaths there were weekly "Esbats" from small congregations in the village where the ancient religion was still practiced. At all high Sabbaths the devil himself was invariably present, in the person of some man who had inherited, or otherwise acquired, the honor of being the incarnation of the two-faced god of the Dianic cult. The worshipers paid homage to the god by kissing his reverse face - a mask worn, beneath an animal's tail, on the devil's backside. There was then, for some at least of the female devotees, a ritual copulation with the god, who was equipped for this purpose with an artificial phallus of horn or metal. This ceremony was followed by a picnic (for the Sabbaths were celebrated out of doors, near sacred trees or stones), by dancing and finally by a promiscuous sexual orgy that had, no doubt, originally been a magical operation for increasing the fertility of the animals on which primitive hunters and herdsmen depend for their livelihood. The prevailing atmosphere at the Sabbaths was one of good fellowship and mindless, animal joy. Whe ~ Aldous Huxley
Livelihood quotes by Aldous Huxley
[W]omen were those most likely to be victimized because they were the most 'disempowered' by these changes, especially older women, who often rebelled against their impoverishment and social exclusion and who consituted the bulk of the accused. In other words, women were charged with witchcraft because the restructuring of rural Europe at the dawn of capitalism destroyed their means of livelihood and the basis of their social poer, leaving them with no resort but dependence on the charity of the better-off at a time when communal bonds were disintegrating and a new morality was taking hold that criminalized begging and looked down upon charity, the reputed path to eternal salvation in the medieval world. ~ Silvia Federici
Livelihood quotes by Silvia Federici
It is not so evident why intellectuals need the State. Put simply, we may state that the intellectual's livelihood in the free market is never too secure. ~ Murray N. Rothbard
Livelihood quotes by Murray N. Rothbard
Why, except as a means of livelihood, a man should desire to act on the stage when he has the whole world to act in, is not clear to me. ~ George Bernard Shaw
Livelihood quotes by George Bernard Shaw
Communications and commerce are global; investment is mobile; technology is almost magical; and ambition for a better life is now universal. We earn our livelihood in peaceful competition with people all across the earth. Profound and powerful forces are shaking and remaking our world, and the urgent question of our time is whether we can make change our friend and not our enemy. ~ William J. Clinton
Livelihood quotes by William J. Clinton
Politicians, bureaucrats, editors, new commentators, 'economists' teachers,' and other word artists who denounce private enterprise and praise socialism are their own worst enemies ... these attackers are unwittingly destroying the sources of their own livelihood. They kill the geese that lay the golden eggs - and don't know it! ~ Leonard Read
Livelihood quotes by Leonard Read
In order to gain their freedom, survivors may have to give up almost everything else. Battered women may lose their homes, their friends, and their livelihood. Survivors of childhood abuse may lose their families. Political refugees may lose their homes and their homeland. Rarely are the dimensions of this sacrifice fully recognized. ~ Judith Lewis Herman
Livelihood quotes by Judith Lewis Herman
Everybody's entitled to that forty acres and a mule. You're going to do the work, but you have to have something to work with. If you don't have a job, where do you go from there? You hear people say Pull yourself up by your bootstraps, and you don't even have shoes. You're barefooted. What are you going to pull yourself up by? Our country owes every citizen of the United States of America a means of livelihood. Not a handout, but a way to make it. ~ Studs Terkel
Livelihood quotes by Studs Terkel
Bravery in simple soldiers is a dangerous trade, to which they have bound themselves to get their livelihood. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Livelihood quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
I just really like writing and making television shows. There are ego rewards in doing battle with other television programs in prime time in the main season. I suppose there are times when I might look at that and think that's the major league. But when you look at it, ultimately would I really want to gamble my livelihood and my ability to connect with my fan base or write a show that I really like writing, or in some cases direct a show that I really like directing, for the sake of winning an ego battle? It's totally not worth it. That stuff is so ephemeral. ~ Matt Nix
Livelihood quotes by Matt Nix
They followed the middle way of Muhammad, which included marriage, a socially useful livelihood, and a life "in the world but not of it. ~ Jalaluddin Rumi
Livelihood quotes by Jalaluddin Rumi
Squash was my livelihood and as in business, I had to stay on top. ~ Jahangir Khan
Livelihood quotes by Jahangir Khan
I decided to try radio as a source of livelihood because I like to eat regularly. ~ Jim Backus
Livelihood quotes by Jim Backus
Marriage is for women the commonest mode of livelihood, and the total amount of undesired sex endured by women is probably greater in marriage than in prostitution. ~ Bertrand Russell
Livelihood quotes by Bertrand Russell
Who is willing to be satisfied with a job that expresses all his limitations? He will accept such work only as a 'means of livelihood' while he waits to discover his 'true vocation'. The world is full of unsuccessful businessmen who still secretly believe they were meant to be artists or writers or actors in the movies. ~ Thomas Merton
Livelihood quotes by Thomas Merton
The verdict you pronounce upon the source of your livelihood is the verdict you pronounce upon your life. ~ Ayn Rand
Livelihood quotes by Ayn Rand
Mom was 50 when my Dad died. She got on a bus every weekday for years, and rode 40 miles each morning to Madison. She earned a new degree and learned new skills to start her small business. It wasn't just a new livelihood. It was a new life. ~ Paul Ryan
Livelihood quotes by Paul Ryan
Wait! Wait!" The beggar called out from behind her. "I can see! I'm healthy!" Hilda smiled to herself, pleased. "You just took away my livelihood! Do you have any idea how hard it is out here for a healthy beggar?" The man sounded almost angry. ~ J.L. Langland
Livelihood quotes by J.L. Langland
So, the important thing for us to remember, when we're searching for right livelihood, is to stop looking for something to do, and start looking for something to be. And to get in touch with that part that resides deep inside of you that knows who you really are. And see what it would take to call that forth in a BEINGNESS way. ~ Neale Donald Walsch
Livelihood quotes by Neale Donald Walsch
Money is your means of survival. The verdict you pronounce upon the source of your livelihood is the verdict you pronounce upon your life. If the source is corrupt, you have damned your own existence. ~ Ayn Rand
Livelihood quotes by Ayn Rand
Information, education, skills, healthcare, livelihood, financial inclusion, small and village enterprises, opportunities for women, conservation of natural resources, distributed clean energy - entirely new possibilities have emerged to change the development model. ~ Narendra Modi
Livelihood quotes by Narendra Modi
It would be tempting to explain this long survival of magical practices by pointing out that they helped to provide many professional wizards with a respectable livelihood. The example of the legal profession is a reminder that it is always possible for a substantial social group to support itself by proffering solutions to problems which they themselves have helped to manufacture. ~ Keith Thomas
Livelihood quotes by Keith Thomas
Education does not mean knowledge (gyan) only, it also contains a life within it; it is not an arrangement, it is a duty. It is not merely a means of livelihood; it is the precious treasure of the noble tradition of giving, bestowing. ~ Narendra Modi
Livelihood quotes by Narendra Modi
...Think of it as 'Right Livelihood 2.0'... In addition to not causing harm to yourself or another, this is livelihood that is an expression of your Core Intention, work that you can fall in love with and that no longer feels like "work": work that matters. ~ Maia Duerr
Livelihood quotes by Maia Duerr
Talking about independence makes me wonder, Who is truly independent in this world? A farmer who grows food is dependent on a baker, a barber, a doctor, and so on. A doctor is dependent on other people of different professions in order to survive. I am dependent and will be dependent on certain caregivers and therapists. Those caregivers and therapists need people like me to earn their bread and butter and draw their salaries. So no one is doing any favors when choosing whatever his means of livelihood is. ~ Tito Rajarshi Mukhopadhyay
Livelihood quotes by Tito Rajarshi Mukhopadhyay
Predator is not property," Grimm said in a calm, level tone. "She is not my possession. She is my home. Her crew are not my employees. They are my family. And if you threaten to take my home and destroy the livelihood of my family again, Commodore, I will be inclined to kill you where you stand. ~ Jim Butcher
Livelihood quotes by Jim Butcher
There was no reason to wonder at the matter, since this way of punishing thieves was neither just in itself nor good for the public; for, as the severity was too great, so the remedy was not effectual; simple theft not being so great a crime that it ought to cost a man his life; no punishment, how severe soever, being able to restrain those from robbing who can find out no other way of livelihood. In ~ Thomas More
Livelihood quotes by Thomas More
My voice, my likeness is my livelihood. That's it. I keep it simple. I pick good products. ~ Billy Mays
Livelihood quotes by Billy Mays
I should rather labor as another's serf, in the home of a man without fortune, one whose livelihood was meager, than rule over all the departed dead. ~ Homer
Livelihood quotes by Homer
We have a very old conservation movement, particularly in the United States, which has focused on campaigns to protect endangered species: the spotted owl, the old-growth forest. But usually it stops there. To me, biodiversity is the full spectrum. Species conservation is not only about wilderness conservation. It's also about protecting the livelihood of people even while changing the dominant relationship that humans have had with other species. In India, it's an economic issue, not just an ecological one. ~ Vandana Shiva
Livelihood quotes by Vandana Shiva
I wanted to get clean. I knew that my highest potential, the place that I was most spiritual, the place that I was the most rich in terms of my life, and my livelihood, and my art and my creativity, was when I was sober. ~ Macklemore
Livelihood quotes by Macklemore
And I'm convinced, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you can work with the unions because the unions want to survive. If they are confronted simply with the question: "Do you want this company to survive or do you want it to be broken up?" they will listen. It's their livelihood. ~ Carl Icahn
Livelihood quotes by Carl Icahn
