I don't believe that the rough and tumble nature of children, especially boys is inherently wrong. We see in nature, bear cubs, deer, goats, puppies, especially males, play rough with each other. We're not animals, so we do try to civilize things a bit, but that rough and tumble play creates an environment where children are strengthened, and they learn that their bodies endure pain a certain way. They also learn empathy, when they see that a twisted arm hurts, they are less likely to twist someone's arm. This unstructured type of play isn't suited for classrooms, where six years olds are expected to sit at a desk and work for more than eight hours a day, and so it is discouraged. Children do not have the opportunity to properly express those natural tendencies to compete, to wrestle, or to express the emotions behind those desires. ~ Josh Hatcher
Learn Empathy quotes by Josh Hatcher
Certain vocations, e.g., raising children, offer a perfect setting for living a contemplative life. They provide a desert for reflection, a real monastery. The mother who stays home with small children experiences a very real withdrawal from the world. Her existence is certainly monastic. Her tasks and preoccupations remove her from the centres of social life and from the centres of important power. She feels removed. Moreover, her constant contact with young children, the mildest of the mild, gives her a privileged opportunity to be in harmony with the mild and learn empathy and unselfishness. Perhaps more so even than the monk or the minister of the Gospel, she is forced, almost against her will, to mature. For years, while she is raising small children, her time is not her own, her own needs have to be put into second place, and every time she turns around some hand is reaching out demanding something. ~ Ronald Rolheiser
Learn Empathy quotes by Ronald Rolheiser
In my opinion, being an effective leader requires being an effective listener. The most productive leaders are usually those who are consistently willing to listen and learn. ~ John Wooden
Learn Empathy quotes by John Wooden
When we watch stories, we learn empathy, we learn compassion, and hopefully we achieve some sort of understanding. ~ Gavin Hood
Learn Empathy quotes by Gavin Hood
Empathy isn't about you, understanding another person isn't about you, feeling how another person feels isn't about you ... step outside of your own skin for a change. Respect another person because they are who they are; not because the other person is just like you. Your inability to understand, your inability to empathize, is not a fault on the part of the other person. It is in fact your own disability that you are choosing to live with. ~ C. JoyBell C.
Learn Empathy quotes by C. JoyBell C.
Empathy grows as we learn. ~ Alice Miller
Learn Empathy quotes by Alice Miller
This world has been connected. Tied to the darkness ... soon to be completely eclipsed. There is so very much to learn. You understand so little. ~ Ansem
Learn Empathy quotes by Ansem
Let your critics make you humble, and your enemies make you wise. Learn from every stumble but let nothing keep you down, for you were born to rise! ~ Cory Booker
Learn Empathy quotes by Cory Booker
Everyone knows that children and teens want to blend in and follow the crowd. And from whom do they learn this lesson? Adults, of course. Let's face it: Americans follow the herd. If you want to be successful, we are told in myriad ways, conformity is the way to go. Look at corporate America, with its "team player" ethic and all the strict rules delineating what you can and cannot wear on Casual Fridays. Consider the cycles of women's fashion, which dictate when square-toed, chunky-heeled shoes are out and when pointy-toed, ankle-straining stilettos are in. And what about best-seller lists and electoral horse-race polls and movie box-office postings? Everyone wants to know what everyone else is reading and seeing and thinking--so that they can go out and read and see and think the very same things themselves.

If adults possess this tendency to efface themselves in this way, teenagers have it magnified to the thousandth degree. But studying and following the fashions of the times are not enough; teens also feel a need to be associated with fashionable people--the popular people. Their goal is to crack the glass ceiling that separates mere mortals from the "in" crowd. If they are unsuccessful, and most are, they console themselves with a clique of their own. Even an unpopular clique is, the thinking goes, is better than no clique at all. ~ Leora Tanenbaum
Learn Empathy quotes by Leora Tanenbaum
Unfortunately, angels do not survive on the Earth... that's a tragic verity…

Pure souls need more perfect world: the one, where their kindness wouldn't be seen as weakness; where their brightness wouldn't trigger so much envy; where their sincerity and open heart wouldn't be considered as an invitation to push them down and take advantage of them.

You need to learn how to protect yourself. ~ Sahara Sanders
Learn Empathy quotes by Sahara Sanders
In my work on injuries, I'm very interested in the lag time between when a person first suspects that something is too intense or painful for them in practice, and when they actually stop or alter practice. In between those two points comes a litany of things they are told and learn to tell themselves - "pain is an opening", "practice requires commitment" etc. - about the necessity of continuing. It's also in this period that repetitive strain can evolve into chronic injury. ~ Anonymous

Life is Death. Death is Life. Teach the deserving. Teach with passion. Learn always. Assume Nothing. ~ Shaolin
Learn Empathy quotes by Shaolin
Read the right books. Learn how those who have preceded you have handled the challenges you are currently facing. ~ Robin S. Sharma
Learn Empathy quotes by Robin S. Sharma
You could put me on a stage in front of 100 people, and I could do a tap dance, but one-on-one was really difficult for me. And it took me most of my life to learn how to work with that anxiety, to embrace and be comfortable with it. ~ Brie Larson
Learn Empathy quotes by Brie Larson
Always try to associate yourself closely with and learn as much as you can from those who know more than you, who do better than you, who see more clearly than you. Apart from the rewards of friendship, the association might pay off at some unforeseen time - that is only an accidental byproduct. The important thing is that the learning will make you a better person. ~ Dwight D. Eisenhower
Learn Empathy quotes by Dwight D. Eisenhower
I must learn to let go, let it all go, center myself and open my mind. The ideals, concepts and ideas of the self being separate from the whole of all consciousness must change. We are one large family, you are I, and I am you. ~ Brandon Garic Notch
Learn Empathy quotes by Brandon Garic Notch
In order to heal from being a victim of abuse, learn to let go and forgive. Forgiveness will allow you to let go of the anger and pain that holds you to your abuser. ~ Tracy Malone
Learn Empathy quotes by Tracy Malone
Learn the difference between honesty and being a dick. ~ Adam Gnade
Learn Empathy quotes by Adam Gnade
I don't regret any of the decisions I've made in my life because with every choice I make, I learn something new. ~ Siva Kaneswaren
Learn Empathy quotes by Siva Kaneswaren
In photography we must learn to seek, not the 'picture,' not the aesthetic of tradition, but the ideal instrument of expression, the self-sufficient vehicle for education. ~ Laszlo Moholy-Nagy
Learn Empathy quotes by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy
We learn to love imperfect people by serving them out of reverence for a perfect God... ~ Gary Thomas
Learn Empathy quotes by Gary Thomas
In every man there is something wherein I may learn of him, and in that I am his pupil. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Learn Empathy quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
I guess there's so much more I have to learn,
But if you're here with me, I know which way to turn
You always give me somewhere, somewhere I can run,
You make it real for me ~ James Morrison
Learn Empathy quotes by James Morrison
Some people are blinded by their experience. Soldiers know how important war is. Owners of slaves learn every day how inferior subject peoples are. ~ William Stafford
Learn Empathy quotes by William Stafford
A day in which you learn something isn't a complete loss. ~ David Eddings
Learn Empathy quotes by David Eddings
The people of Australia would be staggered to learn that Australia has no national development plan. ~ Lionel Murphy
Learn Empathy quotes by Lionel Murphy
It is foolish to teach a person a lesson by killing them. For they'd be too dead to learn anything. ~ Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Learn Empathy quotes by Mokokoma Mokhonoana
If we run the curricula race of the safe, the cursus honorum of the domesticated cattle of modernity, we learn nothing but our own ignorance and
our prize is the death of the imagination in the cremation of our hopes. ~ Marcus Bussey
Learn Empathy quotes by Marcus Bussey
Friends are helpful not only because they will listen to us, but because they will laugh at us; Through them we learn a little objectivity, a little modesty, a little courtesy; We learn the rules of life and become better players of the game ~ Will Durant
Learn Empathy quotes by Will Durant
Complacency is the enemy of study. We cannot really learn anything until we rid ourselves of complacency. ~ Mao Zedong
Learn Empathy quotes by Mao Zedong
Gender provides a revealing entrance into the world's religious traditions. How gender is viewed reflects itself not simply in the moral practices of those traditions, but in their metaphysics. Gender shapes their worldview and ethos. In Taoism, for example, ultimate reality is feminine, and what is seen as truly powerful is what adapts and adjusts. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam privilege the masculine. For these religions, what counts for ultimately is the power to control and command. Religions are gendered entities, although often presenting themselves as something simply natural or God-ordained, and therefore objective and universal. Viewing the various religions through the lens of gender, opens up a hidden landscape. It reveals what is usually veiled, puts voices into officially sanctioned silences, and makes more complex what we see and hear and learn from the past. It enriches our grasp upon the heritage of the sacred. ~ John C. Raines
Learn Empathy quotes by John C. Raines
I think it's time to learn how to be a guardian to myself, and my feelings. Gentle, and strong - like Mom. ~ Katie O'Neill
Learn Empathy quotes by Katie O'Neill
All men and women are connected by an energy which we call love, but which is, in fact, the raw material from which the universe was built. This energy cannot be manipulated, it leads us gently forward, it contains all we have to learn in this life. If we try to make it go in the direction we want, we end up desperate, frustrated, disillusioned, because that energy is free and wild. ~ Paulo Coelho
Learn Empathy quotes by Paulo Coelho
Do you expect to learn anything at Shiz?" he asked. "I have already learned not to speak to strangers." "Then I will introduce myself and we will be strangers no longer. I am Dillamond." "I am disinclined to know you. ~ Gregory Maguire
Learn Empathy quotes by Gregory Maguire
You can't change other people. You can only change yourself. Everyone's got problems. You learn from them, you live with them, you move on. It's choice you make if you want to have a happy life. Nobody's perfect. People are different and that's what makes them so interesting. You only get one father. The quicker you accept him for who he is, the better your life will be. Your father is who he is. Nobody can change that. Find your self esteem from the inside. ~ Lorraine Bracco
Learn Empathy quotes by Lorraine Bracco
Maybe I was tired and irritable. Maybe I felt a little guilty. I could learn to hate this guy without even knowing him. I could just look at him across the width of a cafeteria and want to kick his teeth in. ~ Raymond Chandler
Learn Empathy quotes by Raymond Chandler
The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not 'get over' the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same nor would you want to. ~ Elisabeth Kubler Ross
Learn Empathy quotes by Elisabeth Kubler Ross
The other New Age bullshit bullet to dodge is the constant
aggressive sale of 'wonder nature cures.'
Some are no better than snake oil, but others are true healing substances taken out of context, refined, and made into a supplement that you are told you must take every day (at great expense).
Don't get sucked into the bullshit.
Learn about your own body, learn about substances and how they work, and do not get trapped in the endless New Age loop of pseudoscience. ~ Josephine McCarthy
Learn Empathy quotes by Josephine McCarthy
It is beginning."
Pak Eng and Laughing Chan and Peter all look at Hock Seng with respect. "You were right."
Hock Seng nods impatiently. "I learn."
The storm is gathering. The megodonts must do battle. It is their fate. The power sharing of the last coup could never last. The beasts must clash and one will establish final dominance. Hock Seng murmurs a prayer to his ancestors that he will come out of this maelstrom alive. ~ Paolo Bacigalupi
