Sounds like you've got it all planned out."
"Honey, I've got more plans than Wes has ugly shoes."
"And that's a lot." I laugh.
"It sure is," she says with a sigh. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
And what did it say?" I ask, almost expecting to hear him tell me, "Soon."
"Check the bed." His voice cracks saying the words.
"Excuse me?"
"That's what it said."
"And what's it supposed to mean?"
"Call me crazy, but I think it might mean that I should check my bed."
"Not funny."
"Who's laughing? I'm paranoid about going home now. I'm having major flashbacks to summer camp. You know, itching powder in the bedsheets, snakes under the pillow, getting your hand dipped into a bowl full of water while you sleep - ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
I arrange to meet Kimmie and Wes before homeroom the following day. The cafeteria serves breakfast for early risers in the form of stale toast, oatmeal sludge, and watered-down orange juice.
"This had better be worth it," Wes says. "By my calculation, I'd say you're denying us at least thirty minutes of sleep."
"Not to mention precious primping time." Kimmie motions to her outfit: a black leather poodle skirt paired with a glittery pink T that reads DEMON IN TRAINING. "Like it? I also have a coordinating pitchfork, but in all this rush I forgot it at home."
"Along with your sense of style," Wes jokes, resting his cheek against her shoulder. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack, all dressed in black, black, black. She has a knife, knife, knife, stuck in her back, back, back. She cannot breathe, breathe, breathe. She cannot cry, cry, cry. Thats why she begs, begs, begs. She begs to die, die ,die.. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Better wash up," mom says. "We'll be eating in a few minutes."
I glance toward her mixing bowl, in which she's blending something resembling Cat Chow.
Dad grimaces at the sight of it. "What do you say, Camelia?" he says. "Maybe after dinner and I can head over to Flick-tastic to rent a couple videos?"
Translation: Let's save ourselves from this swill by hitting the drive-through of Taco Bell. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Aww, you know my verbal stingers are only poisoned with love ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Ben stands just behind me, and we begin to wedge out a fresh piece of clay. I try my best to concentrate, to ignore the fact that my heart is beating at five times its normal speed. I watch his arms as he kneads the clay - almost a little too hard - and as the muscles in his forearms flex. "That's good," I say, in an effort to stay focused. I dip a sponge into a bowl of water and squeeze the droplets down over his hands to keep things moist.
After several minutes, Ben lets me take the lead. I place my palms over the clay mound and close my eyes. Meanwhile, Ben's chest grazes my shoulders, and his clay-soaked fingers stroke the length of my arms.
"You're doing great," he whispers in my ear.
We continue to sculpt for another hour, working the mound down into a flattened surface - until we have a total of four tiles.
And until I can no longer hold myself back.
I turn around to face him.
"Camelia?" He squints slightly.
I bite my lip, wishing that he could read my mind, and that he would kiss me until my lips ache. "What are you thinking?" I ask, slipping my hand inside the waistband of his jeans and pulling him closer. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
But I'm not letting you off so easily. Did you hear something that I should know about?"
"No," I say, suddenly feeling more self-conscious than I ever thought possible.
"So, then, is this just an excuse you've devised to call me? Because, trust me when I say that you need no excuses. I love hearing from you. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Who do I look like, Nancy freaking Drew? ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Hi," I say, stopping right in front of him. "I missed you today in chemistry."
"I got to school a little late."
"But you left my house early," I say, wondering what time he did in fact leave - if he waited until I fell asleep or stayed until the last possible moment.
"I still overslept," he explains.
"I'm sorry if that was my fault."
"I think it was your fault." He smiles wider. "Once I got home, I couldn't really fall asleep. Too wound up, I guess."
"Because of all the drama with Adam?"
He shakes his head and touches the side of my face, raising my chin slightly to kiss my lips. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
A magical blending of mystery, romance, and deep and dangerous secrets. Kelly Parra's Invisible Touch is an action-packed coming-of-age novel, sure to keep readers turning pages and begging for a sequel. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
[in regards to Chad's Nifty Over Fifty Moustache and Beard Darkener] "'Dark Bravado Blonde, Number 143.' The name alone makes my loins all aquiver."
Amber ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
[in response to a jealous comment made by Amber] PJ's mouth snarls open. If you aren't going to play nice, my thorny little bush, I think you should return to the dirty playground that you crawled from. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Wes knocks a couple of times, but Adam doesn't answer. "Jackpot," he says, kneeling down to examine the lock. He takes the bundle of wire from his pocket and proceeds to make a key of sorts.
"You're not going to break in?" I ask.
"Well, um, yeah. Kimmie rolls her eyes, as if the answer's completely obvious.
Wes sticks his key into the lock and starts to jiggle it back and forth. A moment later, the doorknob turns.
Only, Wes isn't the one turning it.
Piper then whips the door open. "Oh, my god," she says, smacking her chest like we've scared her, too.
"We were looking for Adam." I peek past her into the apartment.
"He isn't here," she says, glaring up at Wes, no doubt annoyed that he's attempting to pick the lock.
"Would you believe that I dropped the contact?" he asks, before finally getting up.
"Not likely, since you're wearing glasses."
Kimmie bops him on the head with her Tupperware purse. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
My thoughts amuse me. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
I'm serious," I say. "I don't want to lose him."
"Then maybe you should go away for a little bit. After all, absence makes the heart grow horny, right?"
"That's not exactly how the saying goes."
"But it should, because you know it's true. If you go away for a couple of days, Ben won't know what to do with himself."
"Maybe you're right," I say, tossing more candy corn into my mouth (therapy in a bag).
"Damn straight, I am. Now, the biggest question: Can I fit into your suitcase? Because I really don't feel like staying here by myself. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
To my complete and utter surprise, the writing on his door is gone.
Vanished.
"What happened?" I ask.
It takes him a second before he realizes what I'm asking. "I washed it off," he explains.
"You what?"
"I wasn't going to, but I didn't want the super to give me a hard time. Plus, I thought it might freak out some of my neighbors. You have to admit, death threats on doors can be pretty offensive, generally speaking. Not to mention the sheer fact that it made me look like a total asshole - like some old girlfriend was trying to get even."
"Did you take pictures at least?"
"Actually, no." He cringes. "That probably would've been a good idea."
"But Tray saw the writing, right?"
"Um . . ." He nibbles his lip, clearly reading my angst.
"You told me he was with you last night. You said you called him."
"I tried, but he didn't pick up, and I didn't want you to worry."
"So, you lied?" I snap.
"I didn't want you to worry," he repeats. "Please, don't be upset."
"How can I not be? We're talking about your life here. You can't go erasing evidence off your door. And you can't be lying to me, either. How am I supposed to help you if you don't tell me the truth?"
"Why are you helping me?" he asks, taking a step closer. "I mean, I'm grateful and all, and you know I love spending time with you, be it death-threat missions or pizza and a movie. It's just . . . what do you get out of it? What's this sudden interest in my ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Dig a little, he continues. Search. Examine. Sculpt from the inside out, and not the other way around. Don't be afraid to screw up along the way. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
You know what's really freaky? Wes segues. "The fact that the psycho in question was the same guy who was after Debbie Marcus."
The whole fiasco with Debbie Marcus had happened at around the same time that I was getting stalked. But instead of taking her seriously, people chalked her stories up to pranks and practical jokes, concluding that Debbie had gotten paranoid as a result.
But there was obviously a lot more to it.
"Actually, its not nearly as freaky as the fact that Camelia decided to go to the psycho's house without even calling us first," Kimmie says.
"I already told you guys, I didn't have my phone."
"And you've obviously never heard of a collect call," Wes says.
"Nor have you heard of nine-one-one." Kimmie's barbell-pierced eyebrow rises high. "Because I hear that's free as well. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Can you go cazy without knowing you're crazy? ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
I shrug, suddenly remembering how Adam never called me this morning, even though he said he would. "I should probably go back to Adam's apartment to have a look at his door."
"Want some company?" Wes asks. "I can bring along my spy tool. I've got a cool UV-light device that picks up all traces of bodily fluids."
"You're kidding, right?" Kimmie asks.
"You know you want to give it a try." He winks. "I'll even let you borrow my latex gloves."
"Say no more," she jokes. "I'm in. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
My grandmother used to say that there's something truly intimate about sharing food with the people you love." [Stacey]
"Intimate? Sharing food? People you love?" Amber raises an eyebrow. "Um, no offense, Stace, but it sounds like Gram was into food kink. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Will you call me first thing tomorrow?"
"I must say, if I knew all this creepy stuff was going to elicit this much attention from you, I'd have gotten myself harassed weeks ago."
"Adam, I'm serious. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Piper reminds Adam once again about their study session later, and then, within sixty seconds, all of them are gone.
"Well, that was about as pleasant as having my ass waxed," Wes says. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Did you and dad eat the raw-violi I left in the fridge?"
"Sort of. I mean, we considered eating it. It made its way onto the table. But we ended up having the rest of the rawkin' raw-sagna instead. (Rawkin' raw-sagna: a sorry excuse for a real lasagna made with uncooked squash slices, tomatoes, and cashew paste, and served on - what else? - Elvis dinner plates). I don't have the heart to tell her that dad chucked both dinners and ordered us a pizza. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
I sit by his bed and pull the covers over him. In doing so, I accidently brush against his thigh.
And that's when I feel it.
That same electrical sensation I got the first time I touched the spot - in my room, when I begged him to stay the night. The feeling radiates up my spine and gnaws at my nerves. It's like something's there, marked on his leg.
I run my fingers over the spot - through the blanket - almost tempted to have a look. I close my eyes, trying to sense things the way he does - to get a mental picture from merely touching the area. But I can't. And I don't.
Still, I have to know if I'm right.
I peer over my shoulder toward the door, checking to see that no one's looking in. And then I roll the covers down.
Ben's wearing a hospital gown. With trembling fingers, I pull the hem and see it right away: the image of a chameleon, tattooed on his upper thigh. It's about four inches long, with green and yellow stripes.
And its tail curls into the letter C.
I feel my face furrow, wondering when he got the tattoo, and why he never told me. It wasn't so long ago that I told him the story of my name - how my mother named me after a chameleon, because chameleons have keen survival instincts. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
You need to screw up to learn. You need to experience to create greatness. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
We sit there, our eyes locked on one another, for several seconds. I know in my heart we're both thinking the same thing. Jacob leans forward over the candle, the shadow of the flame dancing against his bottom lip. I lean forward to meet him as well. It's a kiss full of promise, of trust, and of all that is magic. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Love isn't rational, it's instinctive ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
I shake my head, knowing that if it hadn't been for me, Ben wouldn't have been there in the first place. I try to tell him that, but he swats my words away with his hand and says he wants to show me something.
"Sure," I say, wondering if he's really as nervous as he seems.
He clenches his teeth and hesitates a couple of moments; the angles of his face seem to grow sharper. Finally, he motions to the pant leg of his jeans.
There's a tear right over his thigh.
"I know you saw it in the hospital," he says, exposing the chameleon tattoo through the torn fabric. "I felt you . . . looking at it. Anyway, I wanted you to know that I did this back home, before I ever came to Freetown. Before I ever met you."
"So it's a coincidence?"
His dark gray eyes swallow mine whole. "Do you honestly believe that?"
"No," I say, listening as he proceeds to tell me that a few months before he got to town, he touched his mother's wedding band - something that reminded him of soul mates - and the image of a chameleon stuck inside his head.
"I couldn't get it out of my mind," he explains. "It was almost like the image was welded to my brain, behind my eyes, haunting me even when I tried to sleep."
"And you got the tattoo because of that?"
"Because I hoped its permanence might help me understand it more - might help me understand what it had to do with my own soul mate."
"And do you understand now?" I ask, swallowing hard.
"Yeah." He smiles. "I ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
What are you doing here?" I ask, stepping out of the car.
"Waiting for you." He closes the car door behind me. "I called you earlier and your mom said you'd be home around nine. You're two minutes early."
"Should I go away and come back?"
"What do you think?" he asks, encircling my waist with his arms. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
I clear my throat, realizing how little I've accomplished during this conversation. "So, everything with you is great?" I say in a final attempt to get some scoop. "No problems? No demons in your closet? Nothing weird going on?"
"What's up with you?" he asks, double-dipping a fry. "You were like this on the phone the other day, too."
"Just making conversation."
"Psycho conversation, maybe."
"Speaking of psychos," I half joke. "Anyone in your life I should know about?"
"Just one," he says, giving me a pointed look. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
I hope you don't mind that we're crashing," Wes says. "I'm trying to escape a hunting expedition. No joke. Dad thinks I'll be more of a man if I can blow a rabbit's head off. And my response? 'Sorry, Dad, but as tempting as it is to obliterate Peter Cottontail first thing on a Sunday morning, I promised Camelia I'd swing by her house, because she's been begging to abuse my body for weeks.'"
"And speaking of being delusional," Kimmie segues, "did I mention that my plan to reunite my parents was totally dumb?" She leads us into my bedroom and then closes the door behind her. "They could smell the setup before their water glasses were even filled."
"How's that?" I ask, taking a seat on my bed.
"The violinist I arranged to serenade them at the table might have been a tip-off," she begins. "Either that, or the wrist corsage I ordered for my mom. I handpicked the begonias and had the florist deliver it right to the table."
"Don't forget about the oyster appetizer you preordered for the occasion," Wes adds.
"Because, you know what they say about oysters, right?" An evil grin breaks out across her face. 'I know, I know." She sighs, before I can even say anything. "I may have gone a little overboard, but what can I say? I'm a dorkus extremus. Hence my outit du jour." She's wearing a Catholic schoolgirl's uniform, a pair of clunky black glasses (with the requisite amount of tape on the bridge), and a cone-shaped dunce cap.
"Yes, but you're a dorkus extremu ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
In other words, my pot doesn't work?" "It doesn't have a pulse," he says. "I have a pulse." Kimmie offers her wrist. "Wanna check? ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
After Ben leaves, I head back upstairs to my room, only to find Dad in the kitchen. He has his back toward me, sneaking a bag of Bugles from one of the baskets above the cabinets.
"Caught you," I say, switching on the light, making him jump.
"Shouldn't you be in bed?" he asks, keeping his voice low.
"Shouldn't you?" I give him a pointed look.
"Probably, but your mom actually feel asleep tonight - probably the first night all week. Meanwhile, I'm too hungry to nod off."
"So, where does that leave us?" I ask, eyeing his bag of Bugles.
"Can you be trusted?"
"That depends. Are you willing to share?" I smile. "Good hiding spot, by the way. Nobody ever uses those baskets."
"That's what you think." He gazes down the hall to make sure the coast is clear and then snags a bag of Hershey's Kisses from one of the other four overhead baskets.
We park ourselves at the kitchen island and rip both bags open. Five full minutes of lusty devouring pass before either of us speaks. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
You could call him,' Wes suggests. 'Why be a spectator in the game of love? Take charge. Don't wait around and let the boy call all the shots.'
'As cheesy as all of that sounds,' Kimmie adds.
'Cheese or not,I know what I'm talking about.' He sulks. 'I've lived it. I've learned it.'
Kimmie lets out a laugh. 'With who,Romeo? That Wendy girl you paid to date you?'
'Oh, and because I don't have a dating history as big as your mouth, it doesn't quite measure up?'
'I hate to break this to you, but that isn't the only thing of yours that doesn't measure up.'
'Wouldn't you like to know?' He grins. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
He'd wanted to accompany her, but both of them knew it'd be smarter for him to stay home.
In other words, neither of them trusts me.
And who can really blame them?
The last time they both went away together, a stalker broke into our house, our basement turned into a scene out of Fright Night, and I nearly gave my boyfriend a concussion. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
On the drive home, Adam glances at me several times, clearly wanting to talk about what's happened.
But I can barely look up from the door latch.
Exactly six pain-filled minutes later, he pulls over at the corner of my street and puts the car in park. "Do you hate me?" he asks.
"More like I hate myself."
"Yeah." He sighs. "Kissing me tends to have that effect on women."
"That's not what I meant."
"Don't worry about it," he says, still trying to make light of the situation. "It's my fault. It won't happen again."
"I let it happen."
"Yes, but only because you couldn't help yourself. I must admit, I'm far too irresistible for my own good."
"I wouldn't go that far." I can't help but smile. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
I roll the covers back up over him and take his hand, noticing how well our palms fit together and thinking back to just after the last time he saved me - when he took my hand and told me that we'd always be together.
I lower my head to his chest and continue to squeeze his palm. Tears fall onto the bedsheets, dampening the fabric just above his heart. "I'm so sorry," I tell him, over and over again.
A few moments later, there's a twitching sensation inside my hand. Ben's fingers glides over my thumb. 'Sorry for what?" he breaths. His voice is raspy and weak.
I lift my head to check his face. His eyelids flutter. The monitor starts beeping faster. And his lips struggle to move.
"Don't try to talk," I tell him, searching for the nurse's call buzzer.
"Please," he whispers, his eyes almost fully open now. "Don't let go."
"I won't," I promise, gripping his hand even harder. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
Oh, and because I don't have a dating history as big as your mouth, it doesn't quite measure up?" he asks.
"I hate to break this to you, but that isn't the only thing of yours that doesn't measure up." She waggles her pinkie at him.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" He grins.
"I think I'm all set," I interrupt, zipping up my bag.
"Don't forget this." Still cuddling my sweater, Wes purrs a couple of times before tossing it my way.
"Yeah, I can't imagine why your dad thinks of you as feminine," Kimmie mocks. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
What about Melissa?" I ask. "She's angry at you for ending things with her. Maybe this is her way of teaching you a lesson."
"A total possibility. I'm definitely sweet and studly enough to drive a girl literally insane, wouldn't you say?" He flexes his biceps to be funny.
"Can we please try to be serious here? ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
If it were up to me, all boys would come with a label: Failure to take in small doses may result in irrational behavior, poor judgment, and estrangement from one's friends. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
He fakes a smile and then turns to unlock the door.
I follow him inside; he stops me at the kitchen island. "I found it right here." He points to the countertop.
"You found what right where?" I ask, feeling my face scrunch up in bewilderment.
"The crossword puzzle from today." He pulls it out of his pocket. "I found it here when I was making breakfast this morning."
"Wait, you didn't get it in the mail?"
"I'm sorry; I thought I mentioned that."
"No," I say, holding back from whacking him in the head. "I think I would've remembered if someone had broken into your apartment.
"I'm sorry," he repeats, and then lets out a stress-filled sigh.
"So, someone broke in here last night while you were asleep?"
"I'm not sure. I was thinking that, too, but then . . . what if I just didn't see it last night when I got home?"
"Are you sure you didn't set your mail down here, maybe even for a second, and then leave this piece behind?"
"What difference does it makes?"
"It makes a huge difference." My voice gets louder. "The difference between someone breaking in or not." I peer around the kitchen and living room, trying to see if anything looks off.
"I don't know." He reaches for a box of cereal. "I mean, I'm pretty sure I would've noticed getting another puzzle in the mail, especially since we've been talking so much about this stuff."
"Who has a key to your apartment?"
"No one that I know of."
"None of your friend ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
I'm just really glad to hear that things are going well."
"Wait, you're not getting ready to hang up on me, are you?" he asks. "We've only been talking for a couple minutes."
"Well, I don't really have much else to say."
"Are you kidding? The possibilities are endless. For starters, you could tell me that you'll call me again. Or, better yet, you could ask me out for coffee or a slice of pizza. Of course, letting me know that I can call you whenever I want is always a good possibility. Or, if you're feeling really generous, you could tell me that you miss me, too. I mean, I wouldn't even care if it was a lie. ~ Laurie Faria Stolarz
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Faria Stolarz
I have but one rule at my table. You may leave your cabbage, but you'll sit still and behave until I've eaten mine. ~ Laurie Graham
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Graham

Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Alice Eakes
Do you know how much women loathe it when guys think every show of negative emotion is tied to our menstrual cycle, like we're sheep or something? ~ Laurie Halse Anderson
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Halse Anderson
a girl in a lemon-coloured shirt sat at a desk, with word processor, potted plant, mug of pencils, furry gonk, and wadges of orange paper. ~ Hugh Laurie
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Hugh Laurie
At best, love is simply the slipping of a hand in another's, of knowing you are where you belong at last, and of exchanging through the eyes that all-consuming regard which ignores everybody else on earth. ~ Laurie Lee
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Lee
I think how veterans are treated in our country is an abomination. We don't have the draft any more, which is why so many soldiers come from working-class - rather than middle- or high-income families. Those wealthier families aren't affected, so they're not agitating for change. ~ Laurie Halse Anderson
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Halse Anderson
Just because it's made up, doesn't mean it isn't real...Made up is the most powerful real there is. ~ Laurie Frankel
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Frankel

that faint sour panic which seems to cling to a place until one has found oneself a bed. ~ Laurie Lee
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Lee
Your eyes. It's a day's worth of work to look into them. ~ Laurie Anderson
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Anderson

Your time is now. Live in the moment. ~ Laurie Buchanan
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Buchanan

Was this what peace felt like? It'd been so long that it was hard for her to recognize it when it sneaked up on her. ~ Laurie Tomlinson
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Tomlinson
Back then, everyone was Lana and Rock. No one had ethnic names. ~ Piper Laurie
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Piper Laurie
I know you're in there, Mercedes," Faye says. "I can see your dirty Converse shoes. You really should get a new pair."

"Did you see it?" I croak. "If you saw it, you probably saw a lot more of me. You probably shouldn't be seen talking to me. And I should probably switch schools."

"That's the thing," Faye says, stopping right outside the stall door and rapping on the metal with her fist.

"What's the thing?" I say, pushing my shoe against the toilet paper dispenser, making no move to let her in.

"I never was any good at doing what people tell me."

And like that, her head appears under the stall door, followed by her body. She pulls herself in and wipes her hands on her jeans.

I raise my eyebrows. "You know how disgusting that floor is?" I say. "Janitorial service at this school leaves a lot to be desired."

She cocks her head and puts her hands on her hips. She looks like what I imagine a stern parent would look like, not that I know from experience. I wonder if she got that posture from Lydia.

"First of all, you didn't let me in, so I had no choice. ~ Laurie Elizabeth Flynn
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn
I dare you to punch me," I said.
"You? Dare me?" He was laughing too hard to say anything else.
I shove him. "I double-dare you. If you don't have the guts to do it, you're a weenie." I shove again, harder. "If you do, you're an even bigger weenie because it's harder to take a punch than to give one. ~ Laurie Halse Anderson
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Halse Anderson
I would just hear piano players and I would hear music, and just think - I don't just want to sit here and passively listen; I want to get inside it. ~ Hugh Laurie
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Hugh Laurie
Be careful what you wish for. There's always a catch. ~ Laurie Halse Anderson
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Halse Anderson
I wanted to play ball," he stated in a way that my body got very still and my eyes, already locked to his, became glued there. "It wasn't the money. It wasn't the fame. It was the game. The goddamned game. I didn't feel like I was breathin' right if I wasn't playin' or practicin'. Felt like life was still, someone hit pause, then I'd put on my pads and jersey and walk on the field and then everything would come alive. Dad and I were Eagles fans since I could remember. Puttin' that fuckin' jersey on, Christ, Laurie ... Christ. ~ Kristen Ashley
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Kristen Ashley
If I had a brontosaurus, I would name him Horace or Morris. But if suddenly one day he had A lot of little brontosauri- I would change his name to Laurie. ~ Shel Silverstein
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Shel Silverstein
Well, people fall in love with the wrong guy all the time, it doesn't make them bad people. ~ Laurie Holden
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Holden
This, however, is OKCupid, the vast, weird pink-and-blue toned jungle of the id masquerading as a dating site, where rare birds of modern romance flutter amongst the night-terrors of human loneliness and despair and the suspicious skin irritants of late-night hook-uppery. ~ Laurie Penny
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Penny
Personally, my interest in social history ends around 1959, by which time I was an adolescent. I've always attributed this to my particular sensibilities. I like formality and elegance, and I'm fundamentally conservative. ~ Laurie Graham
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Graham
And then a new screen, one I had never seen before, never even heard of popped up. It gave me a choice. I could become the new Lord of Darkness myself, or I could take a gamble and be reincarnated. I chose wisely. ~ Laurie Halse Anderson
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Halse Anderson
Emmanuel Twinning, on the other hand, was gentle and very old, and made his own suits out of hospital blankets, and lived nearby with a horse.
Emmanuel and the skewbald had much in common, including the use of the kitchen, and one saw their grey heads, almost any evening, poking together out of the window. The old man himself, when seen alone, seemed to inhabit unearthly regions, so blue and remote that the girls used to sing:
O come, O come, E-mah-ah-ah-new-el!
An' ransom captive Is-rah-ah-ah-el! ...
At this he would nod and smile gently upon us, moving his lips to the hymn. He
was so very old, so far and strange, I never doubted that the hymn was his. He wore sky-blue blankets, and his name was Emmanuel; it was easy to think he was God. ~ Laurie Lee
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Lee
I wanted to impress people because I was kind of a kid who was lost in the crowd - was sort of my, feeling about childhood was being part of a big family. ~ Laurie Anderson
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Anderson
None of [the books are] worth reading. There are no fairy tales, no faerie tails, no sword-swinging princesses or lightning-throwing gods. ~ Laurie Halse Anderson
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Halse Anderson
While the introvert is reflecting on the question (thinking first), the extrovert takes this as an invitation to fill the void (talking first). As long as the introvert doesn't interrupt, the extrovert continues to fill the interpersonal space with talk. But as long as the extrovert talks, the introvert can't think and stays mute. Mute means the invitation is still open, and continued talk assures that the introvert remains mute. By the time the extrovert pauses to ask, the introvert's head is pounding and he or she just wants to get out so she can think. The extrovert just assumes the introvert had nothing to say, and moves on. ~ Laurie A. Helgoe
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie A. Helgoe
Death has an energy. It is thick as sludge, heavy as iron, and pulls you down into yourself like an imploding building. ~ Victoria Laurie
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Victoria Laurie
Superheroes work the hardest when things get tough. ~ Laurie Halse Anderson
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Halse Anderson
A young man sat down beside him on the divan and, without any kind of preliminary, said, 'Is it a queer book?'
'No,' said Laurie.
'Oh,' said the young man, on a note of utter deflation. He got up and went away. ~ Mary Renault
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Mary Renault
Somehow or other, I always end up in a kitchen feeding a crowd. ~ Laurie Colwin
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Colwin
Hugh Laurie was intimidating, but he's the greatest guy. He's so wonderful and smart and funny and serious, and he sets the bar high. So if I was scared, it's because I wasn't measuring up. ~ Peter Jacobson
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Peter Jacobson
The best teachers become the best teachers by being their own best students. ~ Laurie Gray
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Gray

A good rule of thumb is that any environment that consistently leaves you feeling bad about who you are is the wrong environment. ~ Laurie A. Helgoe
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie A. Helgoe
"Heard you choking, are you all right?"
"You're beautiful, a good kisser, this is our first date, my bed is in the room, I'm nervous as all heck and I just thought I was going to die choking after spitting out gum so no, I'm not all right."
Yes, that's what I blurted, word for word.
Chace stared at me.
I stared back both wondering if I could will myself to melt like the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz and if that was what Laurie meant by honesty or if it was a tad over the top.
( ... )
Then his tongue was in my mouth.
( ... )
"Still nervous?"
"No," I whispered.
"Good," he muttered. ~ Kristen Ashley
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Kristen Ashley
On Saturday mornings I would walk to the Flavor Cup or Puerto Rico Importing coffee store to get my coffee. Often it was freshly roasted and the beans were still warm. Coffee was my nectar and my ambrosia: I was very careful about it. I decanted my beans into glass ... and I ground them in little batches in my grinder. ~ Laurie Colwin
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Colwin
I'm thankful my parents obliged me to live with the unvarnished truth: I might not have been a looker, but I was a better speller than the prettiest girl in my class, and I was funnier, too. ~ Laurie Graham
Laurie Faria Stolarz quotes by Laurie Graham
That's really a very different experience: You don't have to look to be understood. You're already understood. ~ Laurie Anderson
