In Lakefield View, everybody has a secret. Behind every smile lies a dark story. Behind every hello is a hidden goodbye. ~ Gavin Hetherington
Lakefield View quotes by Gavin Hetherington
I talk to our kids now that they are grown up, and I ask them about the experiences that had growing up that really had a powerful influence on the way they view the purpose of life. The experiences that really shaped their values - my wife and I have no memory of those experiences! ~ Clayton Christensen
Lakefield View quotes by Clayton Christensen
A sour view of things, I grant you; but one borne out by the history of our age and of the age to come, when Trinity--not the Christians' but Oppenheimer's--will turn Alamogordo sand to glass. In the future, dead cities will molder behind rusting thorns no prince can ever penetrate; dirty bombs will engender tribes of lepers--not by germs, but by deadly atoms; and radioactive isotopes will be left to cool for an age or more, sealed in burial chambers with a pharaoh's curse. ~ Norman Lock
Lakefield View quotes by Norman Lock
The prospective colonization of space responds, not to the particular problems of the American nation, or of any other nation, but to those of mankind as a whole ... In an ideal view, such an undertaking by mankind as a whole would tend to divert it from its present preoccupation with international conflict, would tend to channel its energies into the pursuit of a great common purpose. ~ Louis J. Halle
Lakefield View quotes by Louis J. Halle
It's a god-awful small affair
To the girl with the mousy hair
But her mummy is yelling, "No!"
And her daddy has told her to go
But her friend is nowhere to be seen
Now she walks through her sunken dream
To the seat with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the silver screen ~ David Bowie
Lakefield View quotes by David Bowie
The most important part of vehicle maintenance is clean windows, so if you are broken down you will enjoy the beauty of the view. ~ Dan Eldon
Lakefield View quotes by Dan Eldon
In short, whoever does violence to truth or its expression eventually mutilates justice, even though he thinks he is serving it. From this point of view, we shall deny to the very end that a press is true because it is revolutionary; it will be revolutionary only if it is true, and never otherwise. ~ Albert Camus
Lakefield View quotes by Albert Camus
Every view is peripheral now. ~ Karen Green
Lakefield View quotes by Karen Green
It's simply impossible for me to filter my thoughts and feelings. I tell it from my point of view. I'm an open book. ~ Lori Lesko
Lakefield View quotes by Lori Lesko
When we expand our thinking, we expand who we are as human beings: the perspective from which we view the world, and the concepts and values we use to guide our choices. ~ John Chaffee
Lakefield View quotes by John Chaffee
But there is a critical point about differences between individuals that exerts arguably more influence on worker productivity than any other. The factor is locus of control, a fancy name for how people view their autonomy and agency in the world. People with an internal locus of control believe that they are responsible for (or at least can influence) their own fates and life outcomes. They may or may not feel they are leaders, but they feel that they are essentially in charge of their lives. Those with an external locus of control see themselves as relatively powerless pawns in some game played by others; they believe that other people, environmental forces, the weather, malevolent gods, the alignment of celestial bodies
basically any and all external events
exert the most influence on their lives. ~ Daniel J. Levitin
Lakefield View quotes by Daniel J. Levitin
I am highly variable in my devotion. From a doctrinal point of view or a dogmatic point of view or a strictly Catholic adherent point of view, I'm first to say that I talk a good game, but I don't know how good I am about it in practice. ~ Stephen Colbert
Lakefield View quotes by Stephen Colbert
Correct Overestimated Feedback Fears

One of the reasons anxious people fear feedback is that they tend to judge their performance more harshly than others judge them. If you're feeling anxious, you'll probably overestimate the likelihood that any feedback you'll get will be negative - the negative predictions thinking error.
Let's say you need to get feedback on your delivery of an upcoming presentation. You fear that you'll get crucified, that people will say your presentation style is horrible and won't say anything nice. How likely does this feared outcome feel? You might say, "It feels 99% likely." How likely is it in reality? You think, "Objectively, maybe 50%?" Your answer of 50% may still be an overestimate, but at least it jump-starts the shift in your thinking. It alters you that your anxious feelings are, to some extent, clouding your perceptions.
Although it seems strange that people can shift their thinking just based on whether they are asked to think with their anxious mind or their objective mind, this isn't as far-fetched as it sounds. There's lots of research evidence that people's thinking changes based on how they're asked to think about something. For example, my own doctoral research asked people in relationships how their judgments of their romantic partner compared to reality. People recognized that they tended to view their partners more positively than warranted by reality.
Experiment: Think of a current area in your life wh ~ Alice Boyes
Lakefield View quotes by Alice Boyes
Although my own view is that bin Laden does not want to stage an attack that looks like 9/11 in Europe simply because he does not want to be the agent of Trans-Atlantic reconciliation. I think they will continue to do attacks like Madrid, the British attack, the subway systems, because those attacks have proven that the European response so far has been to blame the domestic government, not to side with the Americans. ~ Michael Scheuer
Lakefield View quotes by Michael Scheuer
From my father's point of view, without a thought for self, a true patriot stands up against the stones of condemnation and speaks for those who are given no real voice in the halls of justice or the halls of government. ~ Thomas Steinbeck
Lakefield View quotes by Thomas Steinbeck
Our customers call and e-mail us to say that's how it feels when a Zappos box arrives. And that's how we view this company. ~ Tony Hsieh
Lakefield View quotes by Tony Hsieh
You have to pay for this view (onto which he looks while writing), so our expenses keep us pretty motivated to write. It's a vicious cycle. ~ Pat Conroy
Lakefield View quotes by Pat Conroy
NORA: Yes; it is just so, Torvald. While I was still at home with father, he used to tell me all his views, and so of course I held the same views; if at any time I had a different view I concealed it, because he would not have liked people with opinions of their own. He used to call me his little doll, and play with me, as I in my turn used to play with my dolls. Then I came to live in your house. ~ Henrik Ibsen
Lakefield View quotes by Henrik Ibsen
Didn't he come to - to ask you for some magic?"
"No, he came to enjoy the view of the Wood," the Dragon said. "Of course he came for magic, and I sent him about his business, which is hacking at enemy knights and not meddling in things he scarcely understands. ~ Naomi Novik
Lakefield View quotes by Naomi Novik
It is often said that if you have a room with a view, you will feel peaceful and relaxed, but if the room is a caravan hurtling down a steep and twisted road, and the view is an eerie mountain range racing backward away from you, while chilly mountain winds sting your face and toss dust into your eyes, then you will not feel one bit of peace and relaxation. ~ Lemony Snicket
Lakefield View quotes by Lemony Snicket
For the finale, I thought the audience deserved to get a close point of view on the monster, and to recognize him the way you recognize the heroes of 'True Detective.' ~ Nic Pizzolatto
Lakefield View quotes by Nic Pizzolatto
The ladies' fans opened with cracks like pistol shots, and were held up to block the stranger from view. ~ Frances Hardinge
Lakefield View quotes by Frances Hardinge
If you have a small view of your sin, God's grace will be small to you. ~ Timothy Keller
Lakefield View quotes by Timothy Keller
She really talks to you, doesn't she?" She asked. "it's not just you talking to her. She talks BACK."
"hel, half the time she starts it." I said, half-defensively. "I know it's weird."
"Well, yes, it's weird. Technically, I think it's insane. But who am I to judge?" Maggie shrugged. "I live in a house most people view as the setting of a horror movie waiting to happen, with an army of security ninjas and a couple dozen epileptic dogs for company. I don't think I'm qualified to pass judgement on 'weird'. ~ Mira Grant
Lakefield View quotes by Mira Grant
There are minds constructed like the eyes of certain insects, which discern, with admirable distinctness, the most delicate lineaments and finest veins of the leaf which bears them, but are totally unable to take in the ensemble of the plant or shrub. When error has effected an entrance into such minds, it remains there impregnable, because no general view assists them in throwing off the chance impression of the moment. ~ Sophie Swetchine
Lakefield View quotes by Sophie Swetchine
In view of the tide of religiosity engulfing a once secular republic it is refreshing to be reminded by Freethinkers that free thought and skepticism are robustly in the American tradition. After all the Founding Fathers began by omitting God from the American Constitution. ~ Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr.
Lakefield View quotes by Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr.
People meant very little to Mike, but their performance a great deal. He worshiped expertness of any kind. He loved his work passionately and had no tolerance for anything save for other single-track devotions. He was a master in his own field and he felt no sympathy except for mastery. His view of the world was simple: there were the able and there were the incompetent; ~ Ayn Rand
Lakefield View quotes by Ayn Rand
A divine revelation must necessarily be intolerant of contradiction; it must repudiate all improvement in itself, and view with disdain that arising from the progressive intellectual development of man. ~ John William Draper
Lakefield View quotes by John William Draper
In order to become more influential with those who are resistant to our point of view, we must be willing to start with what is influencing them. ~ Bill Crawford
Lakefield View quotes by Bill Crawford
The Undivided Wholeness of All Things
Most mind-boggling of all are Bohm's fully developed ideas about wholeness. Because everything in the cosmos is made out of the seamless holographic fabric of the implicate order, he believes it is as meaningless to view the universe as composed of "parts, " as it is to view the different geysers in a fountain as separate from the water out of which they flow. An electron is not an "elementary particle. " It is just a name given to a certain aspect of the holomovement. Dividing reality up into parts and then naming those parts is always arbitrary, a product of convention, because subatomic particles, and everything else in the universe, are no more separate from one another than different patterns in an ornate carpet. This is a profound suggestion. In his general theory of relativity Einstein astounded the world when he said that space and time are not separate entities, but are smoothly linked and part of a larger whole he called the space-time continuum. Bohm takes this idea a giant step further. He says that everything in the universe is part of a continuum. Despite the apparent separateness of things at the explicate level, everything is a seamless extension of everything else, and ultimately even the implicate and explicate orders blend into each other. Take a moment to consider this. Look at your hand. Now look at the light streaming from the lamp beside you. And at the dog resting at your feet. You are not merely made of the s ~ Michael Talbot
Lakefield View quotes by Michael Talbot
I walked into the wrong examination room. I'm bad enough at facial recognition ... I saw more that day than I cared to. Fortunately, I didn't recognize her from that angle, whoever it was, and I didn't ask. I'm off to a rocky start on the road to fatherhood, but I got a free view. ~ Simon Helberg
Lakefield View quotes by Simon Helberg
At no time do I come from a cynical point of view. I'm coming from a concerned point of view. ~ Sandra Bernhard
Lakefield View quotes by Sandra Bernhard
The military is focusing only on the short run costs. If they don't provide appropriate body armor, they save some money today, but the healthcare cost is going to be the future for some other president down the line. I view that as both fiscally and morally irresponsible. ~ Joseph Stiglitz
Lakefield View quotes by Joseph Stiglitz
Aunty! Jean Louise groaned. Coffees were peculiarly Maycombian in nature. They were given for girls who came home. Such girls were placed on view at 10:30 A.M. for the express purpose of allowing the women of their age who had remained enisled in Maycomb to examine them. Childhood friendships were rarely renewed under such conditions. ~ Harper Lee
Lakefield View quotes by Harper Lee
Companies should not have a singular view of profitability. There needs to be a balance between commerce and social responsibility ... The companies that are authentic about it will wind up as the companies that make more money. ~ Howard Schultz
Lakefield View quotes by Howard Schultz
TO MR. CYRIACK SKINNER UPON HIS BLINDNESS
Cyriack, this three years day these eys, though clear
To outward view, of blemish or of spot;
Bereft of light thir seeing have forgot,
Nor to thir idle orbs doth sight appear
Of Sun or Moon or Starre throughout the year,
Or man or woman. Yet I argue not
Against heavns hand or will, nor bate a jot
Of heart or hope; but still bear vp and steer
Right onward. What supports me, dost thou ask?
The conscience, Friend, to have lost them overply'd
In libertyes defence, my noble task,
Of which all Europe talks from side to side.
This thought might lead me through the world's vain mask
Content though blind, had I no better guide. ~ John Milton
Lakefield View quotes by John Milton
My personal view is the true long-term storage is mineral carbonates, which is some form of accelerated weathering. ~ Klaus Lackner
Lakefield View quotes by Klaus Lackner
Don't just view me as an actor. ~ Terrence Howard
Lakefield View quotes by Terrence Howard
In America, dogs are viewed by their names first, breed second. And dogs live behind walls. It's an unnatural point of view. ~ Cesar Millan
Lakefield View quotes by Cesar Millan
If it weren't for the negative programming that made us believe otherwise, why should we go through any cost of pain and suffering to achieve anything in our life? Isn't that a rather sadistic view of the world and the universe? ~ David R. Hawkins
Lakefield View quotes by David R. Hawkins
Calvin warned against the common medieval (and modern) view that prayer was a way of putting on your best spiritual clothes, as it were, to impress God with your devoutness. He completely rejects the idea that God could be "appeased by devotions" or that he would hear prayers for "the sake of mere performance."179 In fact, those who would pray fruitfully must come with an attitude that is exactly the opposite. We must be ruthlessly honest about our flaws and weaknesses. We do all we can to avoid the "unreality" of putting on our best face. We should come to God knowing our only hope is in his grace and forgiveness and being honest about our doubts, fears, and emptiness. We should come to God with the "disposition of a beggar. ~ Timothy Keller
Lakefield View quotes by Timothy Keller
I view my role more as trying to set up an environment where the personalities, creativity and individuality of all the different employees come out and can shine. ~ Tony Hsieh
Lakefield View quotes by Tony Hsieh
As clearly and objectively as we think we see things, we begin to realize that others see them differently from their own apparently equally clear and objective point of view ~ Anonymous
Lakefield View quotes by Anonymous
In a way I feel I have been vindicated because I hadn't done anything wrong. The Review Committee gave me a patient hearing and I put my point of view across to them. ~ Sourav Ganguly
Lakefield View quotes by Sourav Ganguly
We are never content with portraits of people we know. For that reason I have always felt sorry for portrait painters. We rarely ask the impossible of anyone, but of them we do. They are required to get everybody's relationship with the subject, everybody's affection or dislike, into the picture; and not merely represent their own view of a person but what everybody else's might be too. ~ Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Lakefield View quotes by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Byron had drawn his pistol, and was looking closely at the leaves and dirt around him, as if he'd dropped something. "It's
do keep calm now
it's right over your head. I suppose you could look, if you can do it slowly."
Crawford felt drops of sweat run down his ribs under his shirt as he slowly forced the muscles of his neck to tilt his head up; he saw the upper slope, bristling with trees that obstructed a view of the road, and then he saw the outer branches of the tree he was braced against, and finally he gathered his tattered courage and looked straight up.
And it took all of his self-control not to recoil or scream, and he was distantly resentful that he couldn't just die in this instant. ~ Tim Powers
Lakefield View quotes by Tim Powers
Reflect on these words from John Brown, a nineteenth-century Scottish pastor and theologian: Nothing is so well fitted to put the fear of God, which will preserve men from offending him, into the heart, as an enlightened view of the cross of Christ. There shine spotless holiness, inflexible justice, incomprehensible wisdom, omnipotent power, holy love. None of these excellencies darken or eclipse the other, but every one of them rather gives a lustre to the rest. They mingle their beams, and shine with united eternal splendour: the just Judge, the merciful Father, the wise Governor. Nowhere does justice appear so awful, mercy so amiable, or wisdom so profound. ~ Jerry Bridges
Lakefield View quotes by Jerry Bridges
Given the deeply rooted Christian suspicion of sexuality, however, the new view of women as intrinsically asexual improved their reputation. Whereas women had once been considered snares of the devil, they were now viewed as sexual innocents whose purity should inspire all decent men to control their own sexual impulses and baser appetites. ~ Stephanie Coontz
Lakefield View quotes by Stephanie Coontz
I've had some wins. And been knocked down with defeats. Glimpsed views from the top of the mountain. And walked through the darkest of valleys. But through this entire ride called 'a life' - I've refused to give up. ~ Robin S. Sharma
Lakefield View quotes by Robin S. Sharma
Whatever you do, do it with intelligence, and keep the end in view. ~ Thomas A Kempis
