Going to prison is terrible. You're never comfortable. All the talk about 'Club Fed' is garbage… You're surrounded by very violent people, very unstable people. Prisons work hard to make you uncomfortable. But that's not what's bad about going to prison. What's bad about going to prison is that you're separated from your family. ~ Andrew Fastow
La Bastille Club quotes by Andrew Fastow
Just because something is addictive doesn't mean that you will get addicted to it. But ... if your stomach ties up in knots while you count the seconds waiting for a phone call from that special someone ... if you hear a loud buzzing in your ears when you see a certain person's car (or one just like it) ... if your eyes burn when you hear a random love song or see a couple holding hands ... if you suffer the twin agonies of craving for and withdrawing from a series of unrequited crushes or toxic relationships ... if you always feel like you're clutching at someone's ankle and dragged across the floor as they try to leave the room ... welcome to the club. ~ Ethlie Ann Vare
La Bastille Club quotes by Ethlie Ann Vare
Sober strip clubs are horrible. When you are sober you see the matrix code behind a strip club. You're paying girls to pretend to like you until you run out of money so they can walk away. ~ Chris Hardwick
La Bastille Club quotes by Chris Hardwick
A fool is he that comes to preach or prate,
When men with swords their right and wrong debate.
[It., Chi conta i colpi e la dovuta offesa,
Mentr' arde la tenzon, misura e pesa?] ~ Torquato Tasso
La Bastille Club quotes by Torquato Tasso
I would be a fully-paid-up member of the 'I Hate Paperwork Club' if I could summon the enthusiasm to fill in the application form. ~ John Dolan
La Bastille Club quotes by John Dolan
We only reveal what we want other people to know, right? It's like we create fictional characters for the public. And inside we're somebody totally different. ~ Matt De La Pena
La Bastille Club quotes by Matt De La Pena
It was time to say good-bye.
I love you.
Always, Jack sent. Always and forever. ~ Melissa De La Cruz
La Bastille Club quotes by Melissa De La Cruz
Secrets of the incomprehensible wisdom of God, unknown to any besides Himself! Man, sprung up only of a few days, wants to penetrate, and to set bounds to it. Who is it that hath known the mind of the Lord, or who hath been His counselor? ~ Jeanne Marie Bouvier De La Motte Guyon
La Bastille Club quotes by Jeanne Marie Bouvier De La Motte Guyon
Most of us, out of a politeness made up of faint curiosity and profound resignation, go out to meet the smiling stranger with a gesture of surrender and a fixed grin, but White has always taken to the fire escape. He has avoided the Man in the Reception Room as he has avoided the interviewer, the photographer, the microphone, the rostrum, the literary tea, and the Stork Club. His life is his own. He is the only writer of prominence I know of who could walk through the Algonquin lobby or between the tables at Jack and Charlie's and be recognized only by his friends.

-on his friend E.B. White ~ James Thurber
La Bastille Club quotes by James Thurber
The sure way to be cheated is to think one's self more cunning than others. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
La Bastille Club quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
If the church of today does not recapture the sacrificial spirit of the early church, it will lose its authentic ring, forfeit the loyalty of millions, and be dismissed as an irrelevant social club with no meaning for the twentieth century. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
La Bastille Club quotes by Martin Luther King, Jr.
Jealousy is bred in doubts. When those doubts change into certainties, then the passion either ceases or turns absolute madness. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
La Bastille Club quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Marriage, it seems, confines every man to his proper rank. ~ Jean De La Bruyere
La Bastille Club quotes by Jean De La Bruyere
La Dorada skulked into view. She was half-mummified, but sodden. Gooey.
Regin let out a low whistle. The Mummy Returns meets Dingoes Ate My Face. ~ Kresley Cole
La Bastille Club quotes by Kresley Cole
LA's a very hard place to be unless you have people there that love you. It can be very, very lonely, and it can eat you up if you don't take care of yourself. In LA, nobody wants to talk to each other, everybody's giving each other catty looks. ~ Scarlett Johansson
La Bastille Club quotes by Scarlett Johansson
Sometimes a fool has talent, but never judgment. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
La Bastille Club quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
I have learned about bulk shopping in my four weeks as a Mississippi River resident. Republicans go to Sam's Club, Democrats go to Costco. But everyone buys bulk because - unlike Manhattanites - they all have space to store twenty-four jars of sweet pickles. ~ Gillian Flynn
La Bastille Club quotes by Gillian Flynn
That which occasions so many mistakes in the computations of men, when they expect return for favors, is that the giver's pride and the receiver's cannot agree upon the value of the kindness done. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
La Bastille Club quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Rely only on yourself; it is a common proverb. ~ Jean De La Fontaine
La Bastille Club quotes by Jean De La Fontaine
Comedy has sort of been my life-long obsession. I literally obsessed over comedy. I really didn't play sports - for me it was just comedy, computers and chess club; those were my big things. ~ Chris Hardwick
La Bastille Club quotes by Chris Hardwick
The worst effect of tutelage is that it negates self-discipline, and therefore people suddenly released from it are almost bound to make fools of themselves. ~ Suzanne La Follette
La Bastille Club quotes by Suzanne La Follette
So It's not like I go from being this disciplined person who has to get up and go to work to now I just lay around all day in my underwear eating Cheerios. I have this structure. I still have to do this and the difference is I'm doing this for me and my company. ~ Eriq La Salle
La Bastille Club quotes by Eriq La Salle
So what's this about a book club? You girls sit around, reading dirty books, fanning each other's vaginas? Because if so, count me in! ~ Jay McLean
La Bastille Club quotes by Jay McLean
How many of y'all wondered, like I did, during the LA riots when those people were being pulled out of their trucks and beaten half to death - step on the f***ing gas, man! They're on foot, you're in a truck - I think I see a way out of this. ~ Bill Hicks
La Bastille Club quotes by Bill Hicks
I sat in a Plymouth Duster I had rented from Avis with my Diners' Club card, I had a paper tube in my mouth. It was stuffed with leaves. I set it on fire. It was a soigne thing to do. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
La Bastille Club quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
Look at music: I've always loved hiphop and rap, and now there's this whole progressive movement, with De La Soul and Mos Def, Common. It's some of the best stuff around. ~ Ryan Phillippe
La Bastille Club quotes by Ryan Phillippe
I read my copy of On the Road and dug the scenery whizzing past. On the Road is a semi-autobiographical novel about Jack Kerouac, a druggy, hard-drinking writer who goes hitchhiking around America, working crummy jobs, howling through the streets at night, meeting people and parting ways. Hipsters, sad-faced hobos, con-men, muggers, scumbags and angels. There's not really a plot -- Kerouac supposedly wrote it in three weeks on a long roll of paper, stoned out of his mind -- only a bunch of amazing things, one thing happening after another. He makes friends with self-destructing people like Dean Moriarty, who get him involved in weird schemes that never really work out, but still it works out, if you know what I mean.

There was a rhythm to the words, it was luscious, I could hear it being read aloud in my head. It made me want to lie down in the bed of a pickup truck and wake up in a dusty little town somewhere in the central valley on the way to LA, one of those places with a gas station and a diner, and just walk out into the fields and meet people and see stuff and do stuff. ~ Cory Doctorow
La Bastille Club quotes by Cory Doctorow
If we had no faults we should not take so much pleasure in noting those of others. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
La Bastille Club quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Sometimes in life situations develop that only the half-crazy can get out of. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
La Bastille Club quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld

Fairy tales are like that.
One morning, we wake up
and say, "It was only a fairy tale..."
We put a smile on our face
but deep inside, this isn't what we feel like doing.
It's because we know full well that fairy tales
are the only truth in life.

[The English translation is Lucrèce Riminiac's.] ~ Antoine De Saint Exupery
La Bastille Club quotes by Antoine De Saint Exupery
It is important for me, as a popular artist, to make clear to the governments of the United States and Mexico that despite the strategy of fear and intimidation to foreigners, despite their weapons, despite their immigration laws and military reserves, they will never be able to isolate the Zapatista communities from the people in the United States. ~ Zack De La Rocha
La Bastille Club quotes by Zack De La Rocha
The people you need to make your goals and visions happen aren't just going to call you or walk up to you and hand you an opportunity. You have to go to them. And you must have a plan for how you will approach them. ~ La La Anthony
La Bastille Club quotes by La La Anthony
Janet Mock's honest and sometimes searing journey is a rare and important look into la vida liminal, one that she manages to negotiate remarkably well, with grace, humor, and fierce grit. Mock doesn't only redefine what realness means to her, but challenges us to rethink our own perceptions of gender and sexuality, feminism and sisterhood, making this book a transcendent piece of American literature. ~ Raquel Cepeda
La Bastille Club quotes by Raquel Cepeda
Loyalty and dedication can't be bought or paid to go away. ~ Zelda La Grange
La Bastille Club quotes by Zelda La Grange
I've always liked drama; I've always found it really fun, like, I did go to drama club and things like that. ~ Rachel Hurd-Wood
La Bastille Club quotes by Rachel Hurd-Wood
The Spanish authorities attributed La Pérouse's opinions to the regrettable fact that the man was French, but his writings made a profound impression on Padre Mendoza. ~ Isabel Allende
La Bastille Club quotes by Isabel Allende
I threw the carving of my goddess as high and far as I could, into the sky above the waves, and watched its arcing path through the air. As it fell, I saw a golden shape come diving toward the plummeting image, a huge eagle that seized the monster's tooth in his talons. The feathers on his breast skimmed the sea before he soared back into the sky and flew away.
"Did you see that, La--Glaucus?" Milo's voice sounded in my ear. He'd woken from his nap and come up behind me unexpectedly. I almost jumped overboard with surprise. "It's a good sign, isn't it? Or is it predicting that something's waiting to snatch us away? If that's so, I swear I won't let it touch you. But is it a good sign after all? Ah, what does it mean?"
"You worry too much, Milo," I said as if I had no such worries of my own. "If every hero stopped to think about all the what-ifs in his path, none of us would ever take one step beyond our own doorways."
"But you saw what it did," Milo protested. "The eagle is Lord Zeus's bird. We can't just ignore it. Ah, what does it mean?"
"What it means," I said, smiling, "is that you and I have just seen either the world's most unmistakable omen or the world's most nearsighted eagle." May the gods stand by us, I thought as I laughed and Milo stared at me in dismay. May they favor and guide us, but may they never hold us hostage through our fears.
"Don't look at me like that," I told him, wiping sea spray from my eyes. "I haven't said anything wrong. ~ Esther M. Friesner
La Bastille Club quotes by Esther M. Friesner
A lot of people feel that way. That if you didn't pay your dues by being ostracized then you're not *really* a geek.
I don't think that though. It's not an exclusive club that you need to pay some social price to get in. Being a geek is about loving something passionately beyond all reason or sense. And it need not necessarily be related to science fiction, fantas, superheroes, etcetera. You can be a gardening geek, a model train geek, stamp collecting geek, a baby geek ...
It's about enthusiasm, in my opinion.
From his blog RE: Thirty years of D&D ~ Patrick Rothfuss
La Bastille Club quotes by Patrick Rothfuss
It is much easier to extinguish a first desire than to satisfy all of those that follow it. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
La Bastille Club quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
I am hyper vigilant and would be dangerous if threatened ... If someone broke into my house or attacked me in the street, it's THEM I would fear for ... But as Yo La Tengo recently put it so succinctly: I am not afraid of you and I will beat your ass. ~ Haven Kimmel
La Bastille Club quotes by Haven Kimmel
Some good qualities are like the senses: Those who are entirely deprived of them can have no notion of them. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
La Bastille Club quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
We should scarcely desire things ardently if we were perfectly acquainted with what we desire. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
