I was depressed. I was just depressed. I did not want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler because I knew of the record. ~ Joe Greene
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Joe Greene
I would say Pittsburgh softly each time before throwing him up. Whisper Pittsburgh with my mouth against the tiny ear and throw him higher. Pittsburgh and happiness high up. The only way to leave even the smallest trace. So that all his life her son would feel gladness unaccountably when anyone spoke of the ruined city of steel in America. Each time almost remembering something maybe important that got lost. ~ Jack Gilbert
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Jack Gilbert
I'm not sure Mario is going to get accolafes he deserves, especially from outside the game. But from within, the players, the people who follow closely, realize exactly what he's broughtto the table, exactly what he has done. People tend to forget ... hockey was dying in Pittsburgh before he got there. I played there. It was almost dead. I'm sorry, but the NHL would not have a franchise in Pittsburgh today had Mario not come along. Think about it, no hockey in Pittsburgh. ~ Wayne Gretzky
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Wayne Gretzky
Imagine yourself sitting on top of a great thoroughbred horse. You sit up there and you just feel that power. That's what it was like playing quarterback on that team [the Pittsburgh Steelers]. It was a great ride. ~ Terry Bradshaw
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Terry Bradshaw
The hardest thing to convey is how lovely it all is and how that loveliness seems all you need. The ghosts that haunted you in New York or Pittsburgh will haunt you anywhere you go, because they're your ghosts and the house they haunt is you. But they become disconcerted, shaken confused for half a minute, and in that moment on a December at four o'clock when you're walking from the bus stop to the rue Saint-Dominique and the lights are twinkling across the river–only twinkling in the bateaux-mouches, luring the tourists, but still…–you feel as if you've escaped your ghosts if only because, being you, they're transfixed looking at the lights in the trees on the other bank, too, which they haven't seen before, either. It's true that you can't run away from yourself. But we were right: you can run away. ~ Adam Gopnik
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Adam Gopnik
Pittsburgh. I'd been there. One of the most underrated cities in North America. People who'd never been there thought of it as a graveyard of abandoned steel mills, but it was a beautiful city, and it would be good to have it back. ~ Steven Brust
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Steven Brust
So what do you like about New York so much? That you would venture all the way here and not tell anyone?"
"Two boys were dancing together in a club," I want to say, "and nobody stopped them." But instead I say, "I want to be on Broadway, and you can't do that forty-five minutes outside of Pittsburgh. ~ Tim Federle
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Tim Federle
I remember my mom threatening me, half-serious: 'You know what? I should take you to Pittsburgh and put you in dance lessons just to keep you occupied.' Well, that brought everything to a screeching halt. 'Jeeze, dance lessons.' In retrospect, it would have been awesome, but then, 'Ugh, dancing - dancing's for sissies.' ~ Michael Keaton
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Michael Keaton
I did theater at Carnegie, and in Pittsburgh and New York. ~ Laura San Giacomo
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Laura San Giacomo
There is no God but one God and Art is his revealer; that's my creed and I'll follow it to the end, to a hotter place than Pittsburgh if need be. ~ Willa Cather
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Willa Cather
How can you guys do this?" Cotton paces back and forth. "How can you act like everything is okay when these people are doing everything they can to break us? Haven't you noticed things have gotten worse since the ocean race started? Every single day, worse! Sometimes I don't even know if they want us to survive at all."

Braun stands up, walks over to Cotton, and puts a hand on his shoulder. "It's okay," he says. "I understand. You're from Minnesota. I'd be angry, too, if my team hadn't gone to the Super Bowl since the seventies."

Cotton jerks back but smiles despite himself. "I'm from Pittsburgh, dick."

"Jesus H. Christ," Guy pipes in. "The Steelers are the worst."

"You want to say that to my face?" Cotton says.

Guy cracks his knuckles absently. "Think I just did. ~ Victoria Scott
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Victoria Scott
We like to imagine that Shaun is in George Romero's universe, that it's happening at the same time as the Pittsburgh outbreak. ~ Edgar Wright
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Edgar Wright
I think that's one of the great things about the Pittsburgh Steelers - we're not a big free-agent team. We build guys up through our system to have a better understanding of our defense. ~ Troy Polamalu
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Troy Polamalu
I went to see the stock exchange when I was 18 years old. I'm not a Wall Street lawyer, I'm a Stanwix Street lawyer. Stanwix Street is a street in downtown Pittsburgh. One of the clients is Mellon Bank, which merged with the Bank of New York Mellon a number of years ago. And I have for years have done software licensing for Mellon. ~ Keith Rothfus
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Keith Rothfus
Our children were mostly brought up and educated in the Churchill suburb east of Pittsburgh. Each summer, we took them back to England for an extended period. ~ John Pople
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by John Pople
Pittsburgh have showed me a couple deals, but we all know the money ain't what it's supposed to be. If I quit the game right now, I can take tax-free money, and that's a difficult thing that I'm going through with myself. ~ Jermichael Finley
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Jermichael Finley
Pennsylvania is Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between. ~ James Carville
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by James Carville
The average newspaper boy in Pittsburgh knows more about the universe than did Galileo, Aristotle, Leonardo, or any of those other guys who were so smart they only needed one name. ~ Daniel M. Gilbert
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Daniel M. Gilbert
I've been out on the book tour going through Pittsburgh, St Louis and Cleveland, Dayton and Orlando, Raleigh-Durham. I sign many books for people. ~ Jamie Farr
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Jamie Farr
From the fissure of their ever-present double consciousness sprang the idea of the double victory, articulated by James Thompson in his letter to the Pittsburgh Courier: "Let colored Americans adopt the double VV for a double victory; the first V for victory over our enemies from without, the second V for victory over our enemies within. ~ Margot Lee Shetterly
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Margot Lee Shetterly
I didn't speak English until I came to Pittsburgh. ~ Mario Lemieux
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Mario Lemieux
Pittsburgh felt like the perfect size of a city to me. There's enough to do, but it's not like living in a circus. I also really loved how sports-enthusiastic Pittsburgh people are: how proud of their sports they are. ~ Joel Edgerton
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Joel Edgerton
The phone rang. It was a familiar voice.

It was Alan Greenspan. Paul O'Neill had tried to stay in touch with people who had served under Gerald Ford, and he'd been reasonably conscientious about it. Alan Greenspan was the exception. In his case, the effort was constant and purposeful. When Greenspan was the chairman of Ford's Council of Economic Advisers, and O'Neill was number two at OMB, they had become a kind of team. Never social so much. They never talked about families or outside interests. It was all about ideas: Medicare financing or block grants - a concept that O'Neill basically invented to balance federal power and local autonomy - or what was really happening in the economy. It became clear that they thought well together. President Ford used to have them talk about various issues while he listened. After a while, each knew how the other's mind worked, the way married couples do.

In the past fifteen years, they'd made a point of meeting every few months. It could be in New York, or Washington, or Pittsburgh. They talked about everything, just as always. Greenspan, O'Neill told a friend, "doesn't have many people who don't want something from him, who will talk straight to him. So that's what we do together - straight talk."

O'Neill felt some straight talk coming in.

"Paul, I'll be blunt. We really need you down here," Greenspan said. "There is a real chance to make lasting changes. We could be a team at the key moment, t ~ Ron Suskind
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Ron Suskind
I believe that Ryan Murphy is a genius. His instincts remind me of Andy Warhol. I recently went to the Warhol museum in Pittsburgh, and you can see a lot of echoes of Andy in Ryan's work. Like Andy, Ryan's finger is so on the pulse of culture that he's ahead of culture. Their aesthetic and their vision of the world are very similar. ~ Dylan McDermott
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Dylan McDermott
When I was in college at Carnegie Mellon, I wanted to be a chemist. So I became one. I worked in a laboratory and went to graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh. Then I taught science at a private girls' school. I had three children and waited until all three were in school before I started writing. ~ E.L. Konigsburg
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by E.L. Konigsburg
Summer in Pittsburgh had a way of hating you, had a way of beating you down, getting into your bones and thoughts. Only the strongest survived the humidity of Pittsburgh summers, until winter came on and brought with it a test of a different sort, to see who was strong enough to make it to summer. All weather in Pittsburgh had an attitude, forced you to submit to it. Dared you to survive. ~ Doug Rice
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Doug Rice
You can be anything in Pittsburgh, a stripper, a writer, a student, a bartender, or something else, or everything else, all of it at once, and no one cares, or if they care, they mean it, it's love. In Pittsburgh, you are tough or you are not. You write or you don't write. You start hearts or allow hearts to wind down like old clocks. I almost never think about what Pittsburgh means because I know it. ~ Dave Newman
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Dave Newman
He became the largest individual hog farmer in the North. And, in order not to be victimized by meat packers, he bought controlling interest in an Indianapolis slaughterhouse. In order not to be victimized by steel suppliers, he bought controlling interest in a steel company in Pittsburgh. In order not to be victimized by coal suppliers, he bought controlling interest in several mines. In order not to be victimized by money lenders, he founded a bank. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
I was a quarterback in college. I hoped to go to the NFL, and I didn't get drafted. I then became a free agent. I could sign with whoever I wanted to, and I ended up going to Pittsburgh. ~ Tony Dungy
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Tony Dungy
You can't work in a steel mill and think small. Giant converters hundreds of feet high. Every night, the sky looked enormous. It was a torrent of flames - of fire. The place that Pittsburgh used to be had such scale. ~ Jack Gilbert
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Jack Gilbert
With 'Dance Moms' in L.A., we film on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. When we film in Pittsburgh, we film the same days, but we still dance in our studio when we're not filming, so I'm dancing every day except Sunday. ~ Maddie Ziegler
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Maddie Ziegler
The intriguing history of American applied toponymy includes a few notoriously unpopular sweeping decisions a year after President Benjamin Harrison created the Board on Geographic Names in 1890. Harrison acted at the behest of several government agencies, including the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, which was responsible for mapping the nation's coastline, harbors, and coastal waterways. Troubled by inconsistencies in spelling, board members voted to replace centre with center, drop the ugh from names ending in orough, and shorten the suffix burgh to burg. Overnight, Centreview (in Mississippi) became Centerview, Isleborough (in Maine) became Isleboro, and Pittsburgh (in Pennsylvania) lost its final h and a lot of civic pride. The city was chartered in 1816 as Pittsburg, but the Post Office Department added the extra letter sometime later. Although both spellings were used locally and the shorter version had been the official name, many Pittsburghers complained bitterly about the cost of reprinting stationery and repainting signs. Making the spelling consistent with Harrisburg, they argued, was hardly a good reason for truncating the Iron City's moniker--although Harrisburg was the state capital, it was a smaller and economically less important place. Local officials protested that the board had exceeded its authority. The twenty-year crusade to restore the final h bore fruit in 1911, when the board reversed itself--but only for Pittsburgh. Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Mark Monmonier
Just growing up in Pittsburgh and knowing different neighborhoods, having family there and just loving it, it's like no other place. ~ Wiz Khalifa
Kdka Pittsburgh quotes by Wiz Khalifa
In a way, I was born twice. I was born in 1934 and again in 1955 when I came to Pittsburgh. I am thankful to say that I lived two lives. ~ Roberto Clemente
