And I love being with you. Your giggle, your silly grin, how you apply you personality in paste. The ambitions that I share. The way of thinking that I understand. The unconventional person, you are. You are the odd-shaped jigsaw puzzle that I'm looking to fit. And you completed me ~ Raditya Dika
Jigsaw quotes by Raditya Dika
For me, it started as a child with one of those little wooden jigsaw maps of the U.S., where's there's crocodiles on Florida and apples on Washington state. That was my very first map. ~ Ken Jennings
Jigsaw quotes by Ken Jennings
They all eyeballed the last muffin.
"How about we split if four ways?" Kylie suggested.
Elle produced a pocketknife.
"What the hell is that?" Kylie asked.
"I always carry a knife," Elle said. "You know, in case of having to split a muffin in four pieces. And don't look shocked. You carry dangerous tools yourelf. Yesterday I watched you use a huge jigsaw like it was nothing."
"Yes, but that was for work," Kylie said. "Although you've got a point about being able to split a muffin. I bet I could do that with a jigsaw in an emergency. ~ Jill Shalvis
Jigsaw quotes by Jill Shalvis
God's will is like a jigsaw puzzle until you put all the pieces together, you won't be able to see the whole picture. ~ Danny L. Deaube
Jigsaw quotes by Danny L. Deaube
Some nights, I wake up knowing he is anxious. He is across the world in another woman's arms and the years have spread us like dandelion seeds, sanding down the edges of our jigsaw parts that used to only fit each other ~ Sarah Kay
Jigsaw quotes by Sarah Kay
Blessed with fortune is the only way to describe my life. It's like a big jigsaw puzzle, and I'm constantly looking for the right pieces to plug into the right spaces. They always seem to be there if I just look hard enough. ~ Ron McElroy
Jigsaw quotes by Ron McElroy
Here she is at her kitchen table, fingering a jigsaw of thalidomide ginger, thinking about the arthritis in her hands. ~ Craig Raine
Jigsaw quotes by Craig Raine
The dream of empire died when Shanghai surrendered without a fight. Even at the age of 11 or 12, I knew that no amount of patriotic newsreels would put the Union Jack jigsaw together again. From then on, I was slightly suspicious of all British adults. ~ J.G. Ballard
Jigsaw quotes by J.G. Ballard
I don't have any one way to tell a story. I don't have any rule book of how it's supposed to be done. But I've always said that if a story would be more emotionally involving told, beginning, middle, and end, I'll tell it that way. I won't jigsaw it, just to show what a clever boy I am. I don't do anything in my script just to be clever. ~ Quentin Tarantino
Jigsaw quotes by Quentin Tarantino
God was a maze without a map, a circle without a centre; the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle that never seemed to fit together. If only she could solve this mystery, she could bring meaning to senselessness, reason to madness, order to chaos, and perhaps, too, she could learn to be happy. ~ Elif Shafak
Jigsaw quotes by Elif Shafak
I love the English language, playing with words, watching sentences fit together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, ~ Jane Green
Jigsaw quotes by Jane Green
The Russian Revolution is a radical change in history. The abolition of private property has created a new world. You may like it or detest it, but it's new. Hitler's socialism was a sham to get a mob of gangsters into power. He's frozen the German economy just as it was, smashed the labor unions, lengthened the working hours, cut the pay, and kept all the old rich crowd on top, the Krupps and Thyssens, the men who gave him the money to run for office. The big Nazis live like barons, like sultans. The concentration camps are for anybody who still wants the socialist part of National Socialism."

[...]

"I'm sorry. I'm impressed with Hitler's ability to use socialist prattle when necessary, and then discard it. He uses doctrines as he uses money, to get things done. They're expendable. He uses racism because that's the pure distillate of German romantic egotism, just as Lenin used utopian Marxism because it appealed to Russia's messianic streak. Hitler means to hammer out a united Europe.... He understands them, and he may just succeed. A unified Europe must come. The medieval jigsaw of nations is obsolete. The balance of power is dangerous foolishness in the industrial age. It must all be thrown out. Somebody has to be ruthless enough to do it, since the peoples with their ancient hatreds will never do it themselves. It's only Napoleon's original vision, but he was a century ahead of his time. ~ Herman Wouk
Jigsaw quotes by Herman Wouk
It had all dropped into place, like the last bit of the jigsaw, which you thought all along was a bit of left-hand sky, but when you turn it over you realise it's the last chunk of right-hand sea, or the sky tricksily reflected in the surface of the pond. ~ Tom Holt
Jigsaw quotes by Tom Holt
It's like a jigsaw, there's a piece of the puzzle at the beginning and it's the only one and of course it had a lot to do with the way you look. And then you have to have the time to add pieces of the jigsaw. ~ Carole Bouquet
Jigsaw quotes by Carole Bouquet
There is no problem about changing the course of history - the course of history does not change because it all fits together like a jigsaw. All the important changes have happened before the things they were supposed to change and it all sorts itself out in the end. ~ Anonymous
Jigsaw quotes by Anonymous
When I first set out to ruin SNL, I didn't think anyone would notice, but i persevered because like you trying to a do a nine- piece jigsaw puzzle, it was a labor of love. ~ Tina Fey
Jigsaw quotes by Tina Fey
He had never once felt itchy, in the way that two connecting pieces of a jigsaw never felt itchy, as far as one could tell. If one were to imagine, for the sake of argument, that jigsaw pieces had thoughts and feelings, then it was possible to imagine them saying to themselves, 'I'm going to stay here. Where else would I go?' And if another jigsaw piece came along, offering its tabs and blanks enticingly in an attempt to lure one of the pieces away, it would be easy to resist temptation. 'Look,' the object of the seducer's admiration would say. 'You're a bit of telephone box, and I'm the face of Mary, Queen of Scots. We just wouldn't look right together.' And that would be that. ~ Nick Hornby
Jigsaw quotes by Nick Hornby
Finding a photograph is often like picking up a piece from a jigsaw-puzzle box with the cover missing. There's no sense of the whole. Each image is a mysterious part of something not yet revealed. ~ Susan Meiselas
Jigsaw quotes by Susan Meiselas
[I]f one is to learn from history, one should not concentrate solely upon a single portion of an era but rather make a thorough investigation of the many complex and mutually contradictory factors that made the era what it was. One must take the single portion and fit it into its proper place. One must evaluate the various elements that went into giving it its special character. Thus one must look at history from a perspective that offers a broad and balanced view.
This, I believe, is what is meant by learning from history. For any man's view of his own era is limited, and he has great difficulty in trying to obtain a comprehensive picture of his time. Precisely because of this, then, the comprehensive picture offered by history both provides information and constitutes a pattern for one's guidance. A man who lives bound by the limits of the minute-to-minute present is able, by means of the broad vision offered by time-transcending history, to avail himself of a comprehensive picture of his world and so correct his own narrow view of things. Such is the enjoyable privilege that history offers men.
Learning from history should never mean fastening upon a particular aspect of a particular era and using it as a model to reform a particular aspect of the present. To take out of the jigsaw puzzle of the past a piece with a set form and attempt to fit it into the present is not an enterprise that could have a happy outcome. To do so is to toy with history, a pastime fit ~ Yukio Mishima
Jigsaw quotes by Yukio Mishima
Once I began doing stand-up, I didn't get a kick out of the applause or being the centre of attention - but I did get a kick out of the jigsaw puzzle aspect of it, searching for the right bit, adding another few pieces each night until the bigger picture appears. That's the appeal: the challenge of it. ~ Stephen Merchant
Jigsaw quotes by Stephen Merchant
We all behave like Maxwell's demon. Organisms organize. In everyday experience lies the reason sober physicists across two centuries kept this cartoon fantasy alive. We sort the mail, build sand castles, solve jigsaw puzzles, separate wheat from chaff, rearrange chess pieces, collect stamps, alphabetize books, create symmetry, compose sonnets and sonatas, and put our rooms in order, and all this we do requires no great energy, as long as we can apply intelligence. We propagate structure (not just we humans but we who are alive). We disturb the tendency toward equilibrium. It would be absurd to attempt a thermodynamic accounting for such processes, but it is not absurd to say we are reducing entropy, piece by piece. Bit by bit. The original demon, discerning one molecules at a time, distinguishing fast from slow, and operating his little gateway, is sometimes described as "superintelligent," but compared to a real organism it is an idiot savant. Not only do living things lessen the disorder in their environments; they are in themselves, their skeletons and their flesh, vesicles and membranes, shells and carapaces, leaves and blossoms, circulatory systems and metabolic pathways - miracles of pattern and structure. It sometimes seems as if curbing entropy is our quixotic purpose in the universe. ~ James Gleick
Jigsaw quotes by James Gleick
…before he left home, he broke his name. Broke it into thirty-eight tiny pieces… He swept up all the pieces of who he was and tucked them away in an inside pocket. And over the years, as he met people who ended up sharing the road with him, travelling with him for a while, he would quietly give each of them a piece of his name… with all the jigsaw pieces of his name scattered about, they wouldn't be able to get all of him when they came to take him away. ~ Kate Orman
Jigsaw quotes by Kate Orman
Jigsaw Lady is the working title of a science fiction novel I've had in my head for darn near 15 years. I think I'll start work on it next year (in all my spare time) but I'd like to get it finished some day. ~ Raymond E. Feist
Jigsaw quotes by Raymond E. Feist
Heaven. The biggest waste of our time we ever invented, outside jigsaws. ~ Caitlin Moran
Jigsaw quotes by Caitlin Moran
In every jigsaw puzzle, there is one key piece, and the only tough job is to identify that key piece from the mess out there. "We have to identify that piece. The puzzle would never be completed without it ~ Sapan Saxena
Jigsaw quotes by Sapan Saxena
Life is like a jigsaw puzzle, you have to see the whole picture, then put it together piece by piece! ~ Terry McMillan
Jigsaw quotes by Terry McMillan
My emotions split into an unsolvable jigsaw puzzle. I was smooth edges, crooked edges, and awkward corner edges.
I was cutthroat and fierce, betrayer and deceiver, loved and lover. ~ Pepper Winters
Jigsaw quotes by Pepper Winters
I say sister because we were never too alike, too competitive with one another, ever to bond as friends: like the projecting pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, our characters, by reason of their similar cuts, could never really lock. ~ A.P.
Jigsaw quotes by A.P.
So now it is time to disassemble the parts of the jigsaw puzzle or to piece another one together, for I find that, having come to the end of my story, my life is just beginning. ~ Conrad Veidt
Jigsaw quotes by Conrad Veidt
And then I went back into my room, locked into a sequence as perfect as a pattern, and I sat down on my great rock throne, invisible to the outside world but palpable beneath me, and from how my face felt I thought maybe I was crying, either because I didn't want to do this or because I did, it was hard to tell and anyway I never would, who would believe me in either case and who would be there to believe me in all cases, it was a puzzle, I had yet to learn the way of the jigsaw, and so I positioned the rifle beneath my chin, it feels cold, like an actual thing in the actual present physical world, OK, there it is, I am here now, and then I lay down on my belly and listened to the rising squall beyond the door. ~ John Darnielle
Jigsaw quotes by John Darnielle
One more piece of sky in the jigsaw puzzle of our school. ~ Em Bailey
Jigsaw quotes by Em Bailey
If we shuffle three colored quarks and the equations remain the same, then we say that the equations possess something called SU(3) symmetry. The 3 represents the fact that we have three types of colors, and the SU stands for a specific mathematical property of the symmetry. We say that there are three quarks in a multiplet. The quarks in a multiplet can be shuffled among one another without changing the physics of the theory. Similarly, the weak force governs the properties of two particles, the electron and the neutrino. The symmetry that interchanges these particles, yet leaves the equation the same, is called SU(2). This means that a multiplet of the weak force contains an electron and a neutrino, which can be rotated into each other. Finally, the electromagnetic force has U(1) symmetry, which rotates the components of the Maxwell field into itself.

Each of these symmetries is simple and elegant. However, the most controversial aspect of the Standard Model is that it "unifies" the three fundamental forces by simply splicing all three theories into one large symmetry. SU(3) X SU(2) X U(1), which is just the product of the symmetries of the individual forces. (This can be compared to assembling a jigsaw puzzle. If we have three jigsaw pieces that don't quite fit, we can always take Scotch tape and splice them together by hand. This is how the Standard Model is formed, by taping three distinct multiplets together. This may not be aesthetically pleasing, but at lea ~ Michio Kaku
Jigsaw quotes by Michio Kaku
Isabel was squeezing the girl to her, sobbing at the touch of her, the legs fitting snugly around her waist and the head slotting automatically into the space beneath her chin, like the final piece of a jigsaw. She was oblivious to anything and anyone else ...
The woman and child were knitted together like a single being, in a world no one could enter. ~ M.L. Stedman
Jigsaw quotes by M.L. Stedman
Sister Lucy is one of the kindest young women I've met. When it comes to French manicures and blow-drying, she has no equal. But I don't believe the poor girl has ever seen a map of England.
No wonder she is challenged by her jigsaw. ~ Rachel Joyce
Jigsaw quotes by Rachel Joyce
If I'm going to have any chance of getting through today, tomorrow, and all the days that follow, I think I need to go back to the start, where we were two boys bonding over jigsaw puzzles and falling in love. ~ Adam Silvera
Jigsaw quotes by Adam Silvera
I believe that when a loved one has dementia, you experience many layers of grief.

The first wave of grief comes with the diagnosis. The realisation that the person who has supported you all your life, will no longer be able to do so, no matter how hard they try.

Grief the first time they struggle to remember your name or your relationship to each other.

Grief when you have to accept that you can no longer keep them at home.

Grief as they lose the ability to communicate, as another piece of the jigsaw is lost.

Grief every time they are afraid, agitated or confused. So much grief you don't think you can cope with anymore.

And then the overwhelming tidal wave of grief when they pass, when you would give anything to go back to the first wave of grief. ~ Emma Haslegrave
Jigsaw quotes by Emma Haslegrave
My godfather sad that story was abut taking the chaotic jigsaw of life, making it into a picture and putting a frame around it so that we could look at it, have control over it. Story and art are the humanizing elements of us. ~ Emma Thompson
Jigsaw quotes by Emma Thompson
Songwriting is like working on a jigsaw puzzle, and it doesn't make any sense until you find that last piece. It has to make sense or it doesn't work. ~ Chrissie Hynde
Jigsaw quotes by Chrissie Hynde
But the fact remains: in terms of physiology and anatomy, we fit together like two jigsaw pieces, much as our voices merged into one, complementing each other, when we sang the song that later became 'ours'. ~ Victoria Sobolev
Jigsaw quotes by Victoria Sobolev
They're the ones I can't stand to look at, although on occasion I still fail. I deliberately seek out the colors to keep my mind off them, but now and then, I witness the ones who are left behind, crumbling among the jigsaw puzzle of realization, despair, and surprise. They have punctured hearts. They have beaten lungs. ~ Markus Zusak
Jigsaw quotes by Markus Zusak
She stared at him, at his face. Simply stared as the scales fell from her eyes. "Oh, my God," she whispered, the exclamation so quiet not even he would hear. She suddenly saw-saw it all-all that she'd simply taken for granted.
Men like him protected those they loved, selflessly, unswervingly, even unto death.
The realization rocked her. Pieces of the jigsaw of her understanding of him fell into place. He was hanging to consciousness by a thread. She had to be sure-and his shields, his defenses were at their weakest now.
Looking down at her hands, pressed over the nearly saturated pad, she hunted for the words, the right tone. Softly said, "My death, even my serious injury, would have freed you from any obligation to marry me. Society would have accepted that outcome, too."
He shifted, clearly in pain. She sucked in a breath-feeling his pain as her own-then he clamped the long fingers of his right hand about her wrist, held tight.
So tight she felt he was using her as an anchor to consciousness, to the world.
His tone, when he spoke, was harsh. "Oh, yes-after I'd expended so much effort keeping you safe all these years, safe even from me, I was suddenly going to stand by and let you be gored by some mangy bull." He snorted, soft, low. Weakly. He drew in a slow, shallow breath, lips thin with pain, but determined, went on, "You think I'd let you get injured when finally after all these long years I at last understand that the reason you've always ~ Stephanie Laurens
Jigsaw quotes by Stephanie Laurens
your lives are like a jigsaw puzzle; every piece fits together and has its place. You mightn't like the cut of certain bits that much, but there's a harmony of sorts. I'm ~ Tricia Voute
Jigsaw quotes by Tricia Voute
I felt changed and a little crazy. But though I was still like a stained and slightly buckled jigsaw puzzle with some pieces missing, now there were at least a few border pieces in place. ~ Anne Lamott
Jigsaw quotes by Anne Lamott
There are no extra pieces in the universe. Everyone is here because he or she has a place to fill, and every piece must fit itself into the big jigsaw puzzle. ~ Deepak Chopra
Jigsaw quotes by Deepak Chopra
The experience of life that you and I have is pretty much a jigsaw puzzle in the box: Day-to-day experiences of disconnected pieces that don't seem to justify the efforts we make each day. ~ Robert Adams
Jigsaw quotes by Robert Adams
It's like I'm trying to put together a jigsaw puzzle, and everyone is hiding the pieces from me. ~ Sarah Jio
Jigsaw quotes by Sarah Jio
Our parents are turning into vampires," Jane's brother had said to her. "Jigsaw-playing vampires. ~ Liane Moriarty
Jigsaw quotes by Liane Moriarty
This was it, the big moment: the corpse of his chief enemy, the ruins of his creator, the body of his dead father; the great weight of all that was unsaid and would never have been said; the pressure to say it now, when there was nobody to hear, and to speak also on his father's behalf, in an act of self-division that might fissure the world and turn his body into a jigsaw puzzle. This was it. ~ Edward St. Aubyn
Jigsaw quotes by Edward St. Aubyn
Criminal investigation has been loosely compared to many things, including the putting together of a jigsaw puzzle. It is seldom that simple. The pieces of such a puzzle are of a fixed shape, immutable. Men and women change shape when touched. ~ Frances Lockridge
Jigsaw quotes by Frances Lockridge
The two of them carefully stepped around the crime scene, picking up Nick's arms, legs and organs, and brought them back to his head. They placed his extremities into position, and then pieced in the gorier bits, assembling a gruesome jigsaw puzzle. In a few moments, most of Nick's body was in place.
The healing process took about twenty minutes. Elphaba and John stood spellbound as they watched a bloody collection of body parts reintegrate into a human form.
As Nick's sinews, nerves, and muscle knit back into place, the gaping wound in Esperto's body also closed, completing a few minutes before Nick's healing. The panther form quickly shrank back to housecat just as Nick sat up. Esperto jumped in his lap and licked the remnants of blood off his face.
"Thank you Esperto," Nick said. He looked at Elphaba and John. "Well, that could have gone better. ~ Abramelin Keldor
Jigsaw quotes by Abramelin Keldor
We weren't friends[ ... ]We were more like jigsaw pieces, each of us part of the same big picture. There are people like this wherever you go. They are part of the same mystery as you are, but you can't quite tell how you fit together. The world is a puzzle, and we can't solve it alone. ~ Lemony Snicket
Jigsaw quotes by Lemony Snicket
Pages could be written on the immense losses of productive soil that occur annually in almost every continent of the earth; on lethal air pollution episodes in major urban areas; on the worldwide distribution of toxic agents, such as radioactive isotopes and lead; on the chemicalization of man's immediate environment - one might say his very dinner table - with pesticide residues and food additives. Pieced together like bits of a jigsaw puzzle, these affronts to the environment form a pattern of destruction that has no precedent in man's long history on earth. ~ Murray Bookchin
Jigsaw quotes by Murray Bookchin
There are times in life our dreams seemed to be scattered all over the place like jigsaw puzzles. We just have to take time and continue to assemble them into a unique shape. ~ Euginia Herlihy
Jigsaw quotes by Euginia Herlihy
He was now beginning to wonder whether the jigsaw was the correct metaphor for relationships between me and women after all. It didn't take account of the sheer stubbornness of human beings, their determination to affix themselves to another even if they didn't fit. They didn't care about jutting off at weird angles, and they didn't care about phone booths and Mary, Queen of Scots. They were motivated not by seamless and sensible matching, but by eyes, mouths, smiles, minds, breasts and chests and bottoms, wit, kindness, charm, romantic history and all sorts of other things that made straight edges impossible to achieve. ~ Nick Hornby
Jigsaw quotes by Nick Hornby
Our whole life is solving puzzles. ~ Erno Rubik
Jigsaw quotes by Erno Rubik
No man is fit to educate unless he feels each pupil an end in himself, with his own rights and his own personality, not merely a piece in a jigsaw puzzle, or a soldier in a regiment, or a citizen in a State. Reverence for human personality is the beginning of wisdom, in every social question but above all in education. ~ Bertrand Russell
Jigsaw quotes by Bertrand Russell
She goes off to see a shrink, to see if she can improve herself, make herself over into a new woman, one who no longer gives a shit. She would like that. The shrink is a nice person; Roz likes her. Together the two of them labor over Roz's life as if it's a jigsaw puzzle, a mystery story with a solution at the end. They arrange and rearrange the pieces, trying to get them to come out better. They are hopeful: if Roz can figure out what story she's in, then they will be able to spot the erroneous turns she took, they can retrace her steps, they can change the ending. They work out a tentative plot. ~ Margaret Atwood
Jigsaw quotes by Margaret Atwood
When you have that last piece of the jigsaw, everything will, I hope, be clear ... -Albus Dumbledore ~ J.K. Rowling
Jigsaw quotes by J.K. Rowling
God's will is like a jigsaw puzzle, sooner or later, all the pieces will fit together. ~ Danny L. Deaube
Jigsaw quotes by Danny L. Deaube
Writing a novel is like trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle whose pieces aren't even fixed in shape. Yet, somehow, they all come together in the end to form the complete picture. ~ Jyoti Arora
Jigsaw quotes by Jyoti Arora
I'm terrible at jigsaw puzzles. Other people solve the puzzle but I just keep trying to make the pieces that don't fit fit. I guess that's what makes me special, I try to assemble jigsaw puzzles incorrectly. ~ Thom Yorke
Jigsaw quotes by Thom Yorke
He compared the intelligence task to solving a jigsaw puzzle, except that you didn't get the box cover, so you didn't know what the final picture was. And you got only a few pieces at a time, not all of them. And even worse, you always got a bunch of pieces from some other puzzle thrown in. ~ P. W. Singer
Jigsaw quotes by P. W. Singer
Before then, life was like a jigsaw puzzle with all the pieces locked in place. Complete. Suddenly some were gone, and their replacements were ugly, jagged and awkward. Yet they were part of my life. I had to make them fit. ~ Susan O'Brien
Jigsaw quotes by Susan O'Brien
not everything green is gold. Not every finished puzzle is complete. And for every misplaced jigsaw, there is a puzzle out there still holding your space. Finally, after one search ends, a new one always begins. Always. ~ Paulette Benjamin
Jigsaw quotes by Paulette Benjamin
Listen very carefully ... listen to everyone and don't say much and think about what they say and how they say it and watch their eyes ... it becomes like a big jigsaw, but you're the only one who can see all the pieces. You'll know what they want you to know, and what they don't want you to know, and even what they think no one knows. ~ Terry Pratchett
Jigsaw quotes by Terry Pratchett
Life was like a jigsaw, but if you tried to fit the pieces together yourself, you generally got them wrong. Pierre had money; she needed money. Pierre was lovable and loved her; she would marry him. She had thought that was the pattern the pieces made. But it had been like trying to force two pieces together that didn't fit, and then, suddenly, the jigsaw had been done, in quite a different way, by other hands. ~ Monica Dickens
Jigsaw quotes by Monica Dickens
History isn't written by the winners - it's written by everyone - it's a jigsaw of facts from contradictory sources. But every once in a while, you unearth that one original document that no one can argue with ... ~ Brad Meltzer
Jigsaw quotes by Brad Meltzer
I'm not tormenting myself. I learned long ago that in order to heal my wounds, I must have the courage to face up to them. I also learned to forgive myself and correct my mistakes. However, ever since I started out on this journey, I've had a sense of being confronted by a vast jigsaw puzzle, the pieces of which are only just beginning to revealed, pieces of love, hate, sacrifice, forgiveness, joy, and grief. ~ Paulo Coelho
Jigsaw quotes by Paulo Coelho
I am putting a mental jigsaw together of what a hobbit looks like, based on a composite of every customer I have ever sold a copy to. ~ Shaun Bythell
Jigsaw quotes by Shaun Bythell
From this, one can make a deduction which is quite certainly the ultimate truth of jigsaw puzzles: despite appearances, puzzling is not a solitary game: every move the puzzler makes, the puzzlemaker has made before; every piece the puzzler picks up, and picks up again, and studies and strokes, every combination he tries, and tries a second time, every blunder and every insight, each hope and each discouragement have all been designed, calculated, and decided by the other. ~ Georges Perec
Jigsaw quotes by Georges Perec
The modern Westerner, persuaded that he has a right to "think for himself" and imagining that he exercises this right, is unwilling to acknowledge that his every thought has been shaped by cultural and historical influences and that his opinions fit, like pieces of jigsaw puzzle, into a pattern which has nothing random about it. ~ Charles Le Gai Eaton
Jigsaw quotes by Charles Le Gai Eaton
Clive convinced himself that it wouldn't be long before we'd be able to predict all their [the moths] equations of cause and effect, then perhaps even map out each and every cell, and configure them in their entirety as robots, in terms of molecules, chemicals and electrical signals. And what fed this particular obsession was Pupal Soup.

If you cut through a cocoon in mid-winter, a thick creamy liquid will spill out and nothing more. What goes into that cocoon in autumn is a caterpillar and what comes out in spring is entirely different - a moth, complete with papery wings, hair like legs and antennae. Yet this same creature spends winter as a gray-green liquid, a primordial soup. The miraculous meltdown of an animal into a case of fluid chemicals and its exquisite re-generation into a different animal, like a stupendous jigsaw, was a feat that, far from putting off, fed Clive's obsession. He believed it made his lifetime ambition easier because, however complex it might be, it was, after all, only a jigsaw, and to Clive, that meant it was possible. For all the chemicals required to make a moth were right there in front of his eyes, in the pupal soup. ~ Poppy Adams
Jigsaw quotes by Poppy Adams
I know about skeletons. Once I went to a museum and saw dinosaur skeletons. They are like jigsaw puzzles for scientists. ~ Claire King
Jigsaw quotes by Claire King
Marriage is like a 5,000- piece jigsaw of the sky. ~ Cathy Ladman
Jigsaw quotes by Cathy Ladman
HOW DO WE put together the jigsaw puzzle of our lives? How do we find the right shapes and make them fit together so that they form an image we can recognize? It is not easy even when all the pieces are assembled in front of us and we have the picture on the box to compare it with. How much harder when we lack the solid, clear-cut corners to build out from. This ~ Ingrid Von Oelhafen
Jigsaw quotes by Ingrid Von Oelhafen
I've always liked puzzles, since I was a kid. I like party games, silly games. I loved chess. I enjoy jigsaw puzzles, but I'm not particularly visual. ~ Stephen Sondheim
Jigsaw quotes by Stephen Sondheim
When I was 10, I was hit by a car, which turned my right tibia into a jigsaw puzzle. ~ John Scalzi
Jigsaw quotes by John Scalzi
This is how we piece together our past. We do it like a jigsaw puzzle, where there are missing pieces. But so long as we have enough of the pieces, we can know what belongs in the gaps. ~ Nathan Filer
Jigsaw quotes by Nathan Filer
Your hand fits mine like the last piece of a jigsaw puzzle ~ Jodi Picoult
Jigsaw quotes by Jodi Picoult
Hardin lived in a world he manipulated day to day, you never knew when a piece of information might have a use. Life was a jigsaw puzzle someone had kicked apart on the day Hardin was born and he was still putting it back together a piece at a time. ~ William Gay
Jigsaw quotes by William Gay
Well, your crazy matches my crazy. And we're like two jigsaw pieces, you know? Um… Weird, curvy edges. ~ Deadpool
Jigsaw quotes by Deadpool
A story is like a giant jigsaw puzzle, a jigsaw puzzle that would cover the whole floor of a room with its tiny pieces. Buts it's not that sort of puzzle that comes with a box. There is no lid with a picture on it so that you can see what the puzzle will look like when it's finished. And you have only some of the pieces. All you can do is keep looking and listening, sniffing about in all sorts of places, until you find the next piece. And then you'll be amazed where that next piece will take you. Suddenly your puzzle can have a whole new person in it, or it can go from being on a train to a hot air balloon, from city to country, from love to sadness to loneliness and back to love. Pieces can come to you at any time. When you're having a cup of tea or sitting on a bus or talking with a friend.it will be like a bell going off in your head. That's what comes next you'll think. And that's why it's serendipity. Serendipity is luck and chance and fate all tumbled into one. ~ Angelica Banks
Jigsaw quotes by Angelica Banks
'Saw' is like a big jigsaw puzzle. When you put a jigsaw puzzle together, you put the bottom left corner together first, and then you find yourself working on the upper right corner ... That's the way 'Saw' plays out. ~ Tobin Bell
Jigsaw quotes by Tobin Bell
When scientists are asked what they are working on, their response is seldom 'Finding the origin of the universe' or 'Seeking to cure cancer.' Usually, they will claim to be tackling a very specific problem - a small piece of the jigsaw that builds up the big picture. ~ Martin Rees
Jigsaw quotes by Martin Rees
Bringing together disparate personalities to form a team is like a jigsaw puzzle. You have to ask yourself: what is the whole picture here? We want to make sure our players all fit together properly and complement each other, so that we don't have a big piece, a little piece, an oblong piece, and a round piece. If personalities work against each other, as a team you'll find yourselves spinning your wheels. ~ Pat Summitt
Jigsaw quotes by Pat Summitt
I'm an actor. The fact that I'm involved in Jigsaw, I don't approach Jigsaw any differently than I approached The Nordic in 'The Firm' or FBI Agent Stokes in 'Mississippi Burning.' It's the same deal. It's just that the effect is sometimes different. So I say, people ask me, 'How does it feel to be a horror icon?' I'm thrilled. It's great. ~ Tobin Bell
Jigsaw quotes by Tobin Bell
I wanna make a jigsaw puzzle that's 40,000 pieces. And when you finish it, it says, 'go outside'. ~ Demetri Martin
Jigsaw quotes by Demetri Martin
A choice is like a jigsaw puzzle, darling troll. Your worries are the corner pieces, and your hopes are the edge pieces, and you, Hawthorn, dearest of boys, are the middle pieces, all funny-shaped and stubborn. But the picture, the picture was there all along, just waiting for you to get on with it. ~ Catherynne M Valente
Jigsaw quotes by Catherynne M Valente
We're humanity and no matter how individual or superior we think we are, we're part of a greater whole. We can't find completeness somewhere else any more than an individual part of a one-thousand-piece jigsaw puzzle can. We all belong together and we always will. When we hurt each other what we're really doing is hurting ourself and damaging the world in which we all must live. ~ Renee Paule
Jigsaw quotes by Renee Paule
Now that it was safe to drag their relationship out into the light and examine it mercilessly it was fantastic on what a thin basis they had proposed to build their life. Apart from physical attraction, there was nothing between them but fun and parties, and that was not entirely a taste in common.
Life was like a jigsaw, but if you tried to fit the pieces together yourself, you generally got them wrong. ~ Monica Dickens
Jigsaw quotes by Monica Dickens
On the day you couldn't hold yourself together anymore,
you called for me, voice crackling like two sets of knuckles
before an altercation.

I found you, looking like a damaged wine glass.
I hugged your shatter, I cut all of my fingers
trying to jigsaw puzzle you back together.

When it was over,
you looked at the stains on the carpet
and blamed me for making a mess. ~ Rudy Francisco
Jigsaw quotes by Rudy Francisco
The whole thing is like a jigsaw puzzle, but there are too many missing pieces to solve it. ~ Lemony Snicket
Jigsaw quotes by Lemony Snicket
I automatically leaned back, my head fitting into that spot between his neck and his shoulder. Again, the cliched romantic in me wondered how we seemed to fit so perfectly, two pieces of a jigsaw, and have such different, clashing personalities... I didn't care how bad we were for each other or that he'd be off to college soon; I just remembered that I was in love with him. ~ Beth Reekles
Jigsaw quotes by Beth Reekles
When it comes to your health goal, no matter what it is, your diet is a part of the larger jigsaw puzzle called 'lifestyle'. ~ Shilpa Shetty Kundra
Jigsaw quotes by Shilpa Shetty Kundra
Now he was…dust. To an outside observer, these ten seconds had been ground up into ten thousand uncorrelated moments and scattered throughout real time - and in model time, the outside world had suffered an equivalent fate. Yet the pattern of his awareness remained perfectly intact: somehow he found himself, "assembled himself" from these scrambled fragments. He'd been taken apart like a jigsaw puzzle - but his dissection and shuffling were transparent to him. Somehow - on their own terms - the pieces remained connected.

Imagine a universe entirely without structure, without shape, without connections. A cloud of microscopic events, like fragments of space-time … except that there is no space or time. What characterizes one point in space, for one instant? Just the values of the fundamental particle fields, just a handful of numbers. Now, take away all notions of position, arrangement, order, and what's left? A cloud of random numbers.

But if the pattern that is me could pick itself out from all the other events taking place on this planet, why shouldn't the pattern we think of as 'the universe' assemble itself, find itself, in exactly the same way? If I can piece together my own coherent space and time from data scattered so widely that it might as well be part of some giant cloud of random numbers, then what makes you think that you're not doing the very same thing? ~ Greg Egan
Jigsaw quotes by Greg Egan
table sat an antique ormolu clock, its hands frozen on the twelve and the ten, 11:50. The magic hour. The time when Zee's ghosts appeared in the greenhouse wall. Bits and pieces of two scenarios were coming back to her, fitting together like a child's jigsaw puzzle. She had, indeed, come to this place - Mathew Brady's New York studio - a short time earlier to have her portrait made ~ Becky Lee Weyrich
Jigsaw quotes by Becky Lee Weyrich
life is like a jigsaw puzzle find the missing piece ~ Thabiso Daniel Monkoe
Jigsaw quotes by Thabiso Daniel Monkoe
The world of counterterrorism is like that old jigsaw puzzle in the back of the closet: Its many missing pieces and extra parts jumbled in from other puzzles make it almost impossible to assemble. But in Ghost, Fred Burton manages to join together enough pieces to give us a discerning look at that world. This is a story, told in human terms, that will help make sense of the great puzzle of our times. ~ Eric L. Haney
Jigsaw quotes by Eric L. Haney
The right loved one will fill up your life like the final puzzle piece that makes it all complete. You feel it when you meet them. Or sometimes if you aren't mature enough or wise enough, it can take time to discover that they are the right one. Once your jigsaw puzzle is complete, the rest are often just extra pieces. ~ Kate McGahan
Jigsaw quotes by Kate McGahan
Life is lived forwards and understood backwards. The mystery of where all the jigsaw pieces fit together is still unfolding and for that I am, and will always be, more than happy ~ Sheila Whiteley
